The Bad Batch 305 "The Return" Synopsis

Series Created by: Jennifer CorbettDave Filoni, Brad Rau

Episode 305 Written by: Amanda Rose Muñoz

Episode 305 Directed By: Nathaniel Villanueva

Story Editor: Matt Michnovetz

After reuniting Omega, Crosshair, Hunter and Wrecker rest up on Pabu and wait for the last member of The Bad Batch, Echo to return. While Crosshair avoids talking to Hunter, Wrecker admits that Omega’s endorsement is enough for him to welcome back his brother.

Echo arrives and debriefs Omega and Crosshair on everything they know that could lead them to Dr Hemlock and Mount Tantiss. Omega still has Nala Se’s datapad but doesn’t have access to it because of the heavy Imperial encryption.

Crosshair suggests that the team go to the abandoned Imperial outpost of Barton IV to use its terminals to bypass the security and activate the data pad.

When they arrive the supply depot has been abandoned and to get enough power to access the terminals to retrieve the data they must power down the perimeter beacons.

With the beacons down the group realise what they were protecting the base from as the Bad Batch must fight off a native monster previously repelled by the beacons. With the datapad accessed, Hunter and Crosshair lure the Monster beyond the perimeter sensors so they can be reactivated and the team can get to their ship.

While on Barton IV the Bad Batch learns about Crosshair’s journey while with the Empire and discovers that he was betrayed by the Empire and had killed an Imperial officer at the same facility. Hunter and Crosshair also manage to begin to talk to one another and rebuild some trust lost after the split of the Bad Batch.

Now aligned together and with more clues to the location of Mount Tantiss the team leave Barton IV to return to Pabu knowing that they just have to keep trying and then there might still be hope.

[00:00:25] Just following orders.

[00:00:27] If you're scared, why don't you wait on this ship?

[00:00:31] Hey, kill each other later.

[00:00:33] We're here for a reason.

[00:00:36] Let's crack into the data pad and get out of here. Welcome back fellow Batchers to the Bad Batch podcast on TV podcast industries.

[00:01:00] We're here with The Return, episode five of season three of The Bad Batch.

[00:01:06] I am one of your returning hosts, John.

[00:01:09] I am one of your other hosts, Derek.

[00:01:11] It is I, Chris, and I am the return of the Chris because as close as I can get to Return of the Mac.

[00:01:18] Yes, you are pushing the Return of the Mac quite heavily.

[00:01:23] Yes.

[00:01:23] I don't know why.

[00:01:24] It's a terrible song. Oh yeah, I know, but it could be like, it's like Return of the Mac quite heavily. Yes. I don't know why.

[00:01:25] It's a terrible song.

[00:01:26] Oh yeah, I know, but it could be like, it's like Return of the Man.

[00:01:29] Captain Man is coming back.

[00:01:31] It could be.

[00:01:32] That's why this is the return of the Mac.

[00:01:34] I don't think he's getting out of that box with the with the tentacle creature.

[00:01:37] Never ever.

[00:01:38] Well, if he does, it might be because he's flushed away.

[00:01:43] Maybe, maybe.

[00:01:44] But we do get the return of a character in this episode. We do get the

[00:01:46] return of Echo this time.

[00:01:48] Yes, good old Echo gets back on board. We have, with the exception of those that have

[00:01:55] fallen, it's almost a full hand of cards here.

[00:02:00] It's the full crew that are still left. But we'll talk about it, of course, as we get

[00:02:03] into our spoiler-filled discussion about the incident.

[00:02:05] Yes, before we get into our spoiler field discussion,

[00:02:09] please, fellow bachelors, if you are new to the podcast,

[00:02:40] at facebook.com forward slash groups forward slash

[00:02:44] TV podcast industries where we will have

[00:02:46] a spoiler post for each and every episode of The Bad Batch for you to comment on with your

[00:02:54] thoughts, theories, observations and whatnot. Exactly, exactly. Great stuff. We got into the

[00:02:59] episode, John. Yes, so Derek, what are some of the episode details for the return?

[00:03:01] episode, Jen. JF. Yes, so Derek, what are some of the episode details for The Return?

[00:03:05] DD Well, the executive producer of the show, of

[00:03:08] course, are Dave Filoni and Jennifer Corbett. This episode was written by Amanda Rose Munoz.

[00:03:12] This is the fifth episode she's written of The Bad Batch, with two episodes in Season

[00:03:16] 1 and two episodes in Season 2.

[00:03:17] JF. Excellent stuff. This is great to always get returning writers or directors, which

[00:03:24] happens a lot.

[00:03:25] I think specifically for this episode, especially because of these are all about the batch.

[00:03:30] You'd need someone.

[00:03:31] I was kind of surprised that it wasn't Jennifer Corbett that took this episode as the main

[00:03:34] writer for it.

[00:03:35] Yeah, I know what you're saying.

[00:03:36] I know what you're saying, but I guess significant input.

[00:03:40] I'm sure.

[00:03:41] Absolutely.

[00:03:42] As she does on each of the episodes.

[00:03:44] But this episode was directed by

[00:03:45] Nate Philanueva, who's directed loads of episodes throughout this series, and the story editor

[00:03:50] for the show of course is Matt McNavets. John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with

[00:03:54] your synopsis for The Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 5, The Return?

[00:03:59] Sure. After reuniting, Omega, Crosshair, Hunter and Rekka rest up on Pabu and wait for the last member of the Bad Batch, Echo, to return.

[00:04:09] While Crosshair avoids talking to Hunter, Rekka admits that Omega's endorsement is enough for him to welcome back his brother.

[00:04:17] Echo arrives and debriefs Omega and Crosshair on everything they know that could lead them to Dr. Hemlock and Mount Tantis.

[00:04:25] Amiga still has Nala Se's data pad but doesn't have access to it because of the heavy Imperial encryption.

[00:04:32] Crosso suggests that the team go to the abandoned Imperial outpost of Barton 4

[00:04:38] to use its terminals to bypass the security and activate the data pad.

[00:04:43] When they arrive, the supply depot has been abandoned

[00:04:46] and to get enough power to access the terminals to retrieve the data, they must power down the

[00:04:52] perimeter beacons. With the beacons down, the group realise what they were protecting the base

[00:04:58] from as the bad batch must fight off a native monster previously repelled by the beacons.

[00:05:06] fight off a native monster previously repelled by the beacons. With the datapad accessed, Hunter and Crosser lure the monster beyond the perimeter's sensors so they can be reactivated

[00:05:12] and the team can get to their ship. While on Bawson 4, the Bad Batch learns about Crosser's

[00:05:17] journey while with the Empire and discovers that he was betrayed by the Empire and had

[00:05:23] killed an Imperial officer at the same

[00:05:25] facility. Hunter and Crosser also managed to begin to talk to one another and rebuild some trust

[00:05:32] lost after the split of the Bad Batch. Now aligned together and with more clues to the

[00:05:38] location of Mount Tantus, the team leave Barton Ford to return to Babu, knowing that they just have to keep trying,

[00:05:46] and then there might still be hope.

[00:05:48] ALICE All about hope in the galaxy far, far away, right?

[00:05:51] JON Indeed it is.

[00:05:53] Hope that there is some Jyn and Tonic lying around with all that ice, I guess.

[00:05:58] ALICE Maybe, maybe.

[00:05:59] We're not at the Cantina quiz yet, Jon, so you're gonna have to hold off, you know,

[00:06:02] Jon and Tonic.

[00:06:03] JON Oh yeah.

[00:06:04] ALICE Till then. J quiz yet, John, so you're going to have to hold off your young tonic. Oh yeah, thanks. Till then.

[00:06:05] Damn John, damn.

[00:06:06] As we get into the episode, I just want to say one big compliment to them.

[00:06:11] This episode is a really important episode, I think, putting the batch back together,

[00:06:15] having everybody here that's able to be here.

[00:06:19] But I think a great choice they had, there was only one external character outside of

[00:06:24] the batch, only AZ-3,

[00:06:26] that appears on screen. All of the characters are mentioned. You mentioned Rex, you mentioned

[00:06:30] all the people that are on on Pabu, but it is only the bad batch that are here. So this

[00:06:34] effectively is a two-hander between Michelle Ang and Dean Bradley Baker. And I think it's

[00:06:39] a great choice for this episode because it's so important to them. So you don't have anybody

[00:06:43] else that isn't part of this family unit.

[00:06:45] So that was a really good choice.

[00:06:47] Yeah, and before we get to the last point,

[00:06:49] for me, what isn't said

[00:06:52] and how it is delivered through the animation,

[00:06:56] through the score,

[00:06:58] and just through some silent points,

[00:07:01] just really highlighting why Star Wars animation, Lucas animation really still is

[00:07:10] some of the best on point.

[00:07:13] Like we know that say like Star Wars visions just won a BAFTA for their work and again

[00:07:20] I would be on I would put a lace and some people may argue I would place the guys who do

[00:07:28] bad batch right beside some of that Star Wars vision stuff.

[00:07:31] No, very different styles and things like that.

[00:07:34] But what they can portray in five seconds of silence.

[00:07:39] Oh, it's so good.

[00:07:41] I mean, so like, I mean, this is a kid's quote unquote kid show. And you know. I mean, yeah. It's so good. This is a kid's quote-unquote kid's show.

[00:07:45] And you know what I mean. Yeah.

[00:07:46] Like, this is not your 12-year-old show anymore.

[00:07:52] This is they are bringing through some really strong emotional talk and ties here.

[00:07:58] Absolutely. I think the ensemble of it all from the voice acting through to the animation, through to the score, as

[00:08:07] you say, it all really just lends itself to whatever type of emotion that's happening

[00:08:19] on screen. There is joy from Omega, but like I mean the tension between crosshair and hunter

[00:08:25] You could cut like a hot knife

[00:08:28] butter really I mean hunter has

[00:08:32] They animate a real glare that comes from

[00:08:37] Yes, really good. Yeah, like you can sense like

[00:08:41] The issues just from that those facial expression absolutely you know and

[00:08:47] so yeah really really good but I think let us get into our blaster points first off blaster

[00:08:54] point number one.

[00:08:59] We are back on Pabu. Yeah, it is Pina Colada time here with the sun, the sea and the sand.

[00:09:09] The shakes.

[00:09:10] And the shakes.

[00:09:11] I was going with the shakes.

[00:09:12] Yeah, exactly.

[00:09:13] Crosshair shakes are getting worse. Crosshair is some seriously low accuracy. He is no longer

[00:09:18] like a special... He's lost his special sauce. He has. Or he's had too much of the sauce, all those pina coladas on the tropical island paradise of Pabu.

[00:09:32] But yeah, absolutely. I like this, you know, I like the kind of the contrast they do here on Pabu with Omega like completely content being in her little cubby hole on the ship

[00:09:46] with the Loath cat plushy and you know she comes out is asking where Crosshair is and

[00:09:55] oh he's still adjusting you know that Crosshair is having to adjust to this.

[00:10:01] Not only is it that he's free of the Empire, but he's back with people that,

[00:10:06] in their minds, he betrays or went against their brotherhood. Plus, also, Crosser is,

[00:10:16] as you say, with the handshaking, it seems like it's getting worse. That it's just like, you know, that's playing on his mind. So I just love this kind of contrast

[00:10:27] here, coupled with, you know, Hunter definitely still massively suspicious of Crosshair.

[00:10:35] Absolutely. He betrayed them. At least that's what Crosshair believes at the beginning of the

[00:10:41] episode. But I do like that they cut to Racker and he's kind of go well if Omega says he's fine then he's fine with me. Welcome back brother here's your

[00:10:49] old outfit we kept it I thought it was it would be a bit of a waste to throw it out here's your

[00:10:52] old uniform I have my kept it storage for you thanks for watching. I thought it was a great moment.

[00:10:56] Anybody need a hug? It was lovely. Great moment. Throughout the beginning of this it's how you

[00:11:03] start to feel the tension

[00:11:05] ratchet up. And again, like Derek, he said, like they portrayed,

[00:11:08] Crosshair portrayed him. Or they portrayed Crosshair, depending on your point of view.

[00:11:16] There is a right answer, but I will not put anyone on blast by saying Crosshair was right.

[00:11:33] I feel they get into it as the team sits down for this discussion of what to do next about the tablet and things like that.

[00:11:35] It really, you start to feel the beginning of the distrust.

[00:11:40] It's there, but it really just starts to ratchet up like almost a piece every time.

[00:11:46] So you can start to feel the distrust growing and growing with each poke and prod.

[00:11:55] And Omega calls it out.

[00:11:57] Hunter and Crosshair are being very mean and he turns around and says, well Hunter started it. They don't trust when Omega

[00:12:09] goes to the beach to get crosshair before they even sit down. They're watching. There

[00:12:14] is just deep distrust and it just really kind of gets worse.

[00:12:19] ALICE Yeah, absolutely. But again, bringing in the

[00:12:22] final member of the Bad Batch, having Echo return

[00:12:29] to them. While they're at that table having that discussion, they do have a moment between them to remember the loss of tech, you know, effectively that the whole story is set off here with Echo

[00:12:36] having the data pad of Malicei saying that potentially could give them a lead on what

[00:12:41] to get back to Tantus or maybe help them build their plans of how to attack Tantus when they do find it, but they can't get into it because it's got the imperial

[00:12:49] encryption on it. Instantly, it's like, well, if Tech was here, he'd have an idea what to

[00:12:54] do with it, but the rest of us don't have that skill. They just have a little moment

[00:12:59] where everybody goes silent thinking of the lost brother that they have.

[00:13:03] Absolutely. It was so good and it's also then that

[00:13:06] ultimately the person that steps up to the plate

[00:13:09] effectively with the plan is crosshair.

[00:13:14] But also whilst they can see the logic of it,

[00:13:17] there's the distrust that just keeps permeating through.

[00:13:22] You can imagine, we need to be on high alert here,

[00:13:27] even if we go through with this plan. But ultimately, I like the fact that it is

[00:13:33] Crossert who steps up to say that we can use an imperial terminal and I know where

[00:13:41] we can go. But I mean, that's also a huge amount of trust

[00:13:46] to then place in this plan coming from someone

[00:13:50] that has only just returned.

[00:13:52] So I mean, in the sense they do,

[00:13:55] mainly because they've got no other choice,

[00:13:58] but it's hugely like, you see the tension break out

[00:14:02] very soon after when they arrive on

[00:14:06] Balsam 4. So I kind of liked how this all sort of played out and I mean in the background it is

[00:14:15] Omega wanting to have the happy family again.

[00:14:19] Yeah, absolutely. I also love that as an audience you're able to look at both sides

[00:14:23] of what's happening here especially with as soon as you realize it's Barton for that crosshairs, bringing

[00:14:28] them back to we've seen what happened to him there.

[00:14:31] That was the moment that he realized the the empire has no respect for clones at all and

[00:14:37] willing to let them die for no reason for uniforms.

[00:14:40] Wasn't it?

[00:14:41] Yeah, that they were just guarding for years and allowed to die, not get any supplies in. And then that's the point where he turned on the Imperial officer and

[00:14:49] killed them. So on the other side of it, so while Hunter specifically is distrustful of

[00:14:56] this information from Crosshair, he's also bringing them back to the worst moment in

[00:15:00] his life, effectively. The moment where everything fell apart. And so as an audience member, I think it's really cool that you know that background and what he

[00:15:08] went through. And that's something that Hunter won't know until they have their discussion later.

[00:15:14] And it's interesting, isn't it? Because Hunter is absolutely distrustful. I think Echo is cautious.

[00:15:27] I think Echo is cautious and Wrecker is, well, let's be bygones, be bygones. You know, Omega has, so why not myself?

[00:15:31] Exactly.

[00:15:32] So there's a real spectrum here as well.

[00:15:35] Absolutely.

[00:15:36] That is confronting, in particular, Hunter here.

[00:15:39] Absolutely.

[00:15:40] And we also have Echo who's on his mission.

[00:15:41] Echo, the only one of the bats that has a different mission, everybody else was effectively saving Omega. That was their mission. He was off

[00:15:50] on his other mission to hopefully take down the Empire or save as many of the clone brothers

[00:15:55] as he can. So he is here on a mission and we get on to our blaster point to sure

[00:16:11] Fighting monsters on

[00:16:13] Bottom four it is as though

[00:16:16] Dennis Villeneuve's June was set on ice

[00:16:20] Absolutely or tremors or tremors. Yeah, exactly

[00:16:25] in ice and space I Nice. Absolutely. Or tremors. All tremors. Yeah, exactly.

[00:16:27] And ice in space.

[00:16:29] I absolutely.

[00:16:31] I think it's just because June 2 is out.

[00:16:34] It was like, oh, look, it's the worms from Arrakis.

[00:16:37] It's the chillier cousins.

[00:16:40] But this is Arrakis in global warming.

[00:16:43] So basically this is early Arrakis.

[00:16:47] And then it's just because remember, this is a long ago in galaxy far far away Yes, indeed it is

[00:16:49] But we have everyone here

[00:16:52] In a sense working together and and having a role once this this threat is

[00:16:59] Identified there's still a lot of suspicion flying around, you know, and I think Hunter pretty much,

[00:17:06] because of the fact that this place is abandoned, he doesn't know why, because in effect, he's

[00:17:12] not ass cross her.

[00:17:13] You know, we do hear them certainly echo saying they just need to talk to one another, they

[00:17:19] need to talk it out, or at least begin that talking out to try and move on

[00:17:25] from this kind of standoff that they're having.

[00:17:27] But when the chips are down,

[00:17:31] as they enact the plan to hack this terminal

[00:17:34] and get the data off the data pad,

[00:17:38] the only way of doing that is to get enough power,

[00:17:43] which these beacons which are keeping the worm away are preventing

[00:17:49] from because it's been abandoned for so long. So ultimately they let in their foe by having

[00:17:55] to access the data pad and retrieve the data. But when the attack comes, when this monster, this creature begins to attack, they all do

[00:18:09] operate as the bad batch, as that well-oiled, well-trained machine, which I really, really

[00:18:16] enjoyed.

[00:18:17] Absolutely.

[00:18:18] The Amiga's on the decryption of the pad.

[00:18:20] Echo's spotting Hunter and Crosshair while they're going out to fight against the monster. We've got

[00:18:26] Rekker working on the electricity, the power to turn on the station. I really like that. I do have

[00:18:33] a question though about the conversation. They are really tattooed with each other, Hunter and

[00:18:36] Crosshair. There's an interesting moment when this creature is first discovered on the planet

[00:18:42] where Hunter goes to him, why didn't you tell us about that?

[00:18:45] I think I used it as the clip at the opening of the episode, but Crosshair is asking Hunter,

[00:18:49] why didn't you tell us about the monster on the planet?

[00:18:53] And Crosshair goes, are you scared of that?

[00:18:57] Crosshair didn't know about the monster.

[00:18:58] He only knew about the scavengers which he killed on the planet.

[00:19:02] He thought this planet was empty, completely empty,

[00:19:05] and all they would have to deal with. But he bites back instantly at Hunter,

[00:19:09] which I just thought was an interesting choice. So he's distrustful and angry at Hunter,

[00:19:15] blaming him, I guess. Absolutely. But I mean, there's even that poignant moment, I think,

[00:19:21] for Crosshair, where he the the clone trooper helmets from his

[00:19:25] comrades that he had gone there with initially and had been pinned down by the rages. And I just kind

[00:19:34] of like the way, you know, he stacked that and you, you know, in a sense, whilst you don't get any

[00:19:40] comment from Hunter, you just see Hunter watching him from a distance,

[00:19:47] seeing him do this ceremony in a sense almost for himself.

[00:19:53] I thought that was really, really good

[00:19:55] because yes, there is distrust,

[00:19:57] but I guess on the icy planet,

[00:20:00] we're beginning the little small tentative steps

[00:20:04] towards the Thor.

[00:20:05] Mm-hmm.

[00:20:06] Ah.

[00:20:06] Absolutely.

[00:20:07] I enjoyed this.

[00:20:08] Look, I suppose for me, it's the, this felt like an almost monster of the week, but they're

[00:20:16] twisting and changing this, which is what I, one of the, I really enjoy because it's not

[00:20:21] about the monster of the week.

[00:20:23] No. It's about the distrust thing. Like one of the standout moments for me and you mentioned it John is where he where crosshair stacking those helmets that have just been discarded.

[00:20:43] Yeah.

[00:20:43] those helmets that have just been discarded. And you're like, oh wow, that's, like, that's not the crosshair.

[00:20:51] That's not the just following orders crosshair.

[00:20:54] That is the crosshair that has grown over the course of Season 2 as the rest of his kind of colleagues comrades are being killed and it is just

[00:21:10] really showing that kind of next part the evolution in call of the batch but

[00:21:16] just getting it to like you said they all just fall into their roles and then

[00:21:20] the mission is a success they get what well They get what they want out of it.

[00:21:26] So we're as much as they can out of that tablet and just getting it to like

[00:21:32] some nice fun animations as they run underground or as hunters underground.

[00:21:37] And again, we also just saw how bad of a shot cross areas again.

[00:21:43] So you shoot and try and get into that open maw

[00:21:47] of the beast and missing quite a lot.

[00:21:52] I mean, yeah, absolutely.

[00:21:53] And I think it's, you know, it's cross actually,

[00:21:57] it's almost like, you know, the thing that's happening here

[00:22:00] is the adage of leave no man behind, you know,

[00:22:03] he's following, you know, once Hunter

[00:22:06] falls through the ice, he's tracking him with with Batcher and you know, then trying to

[00:22:13] get him out before the the creature returns and you you have Echo spotting, as you said,

[00:22:21] when he was last on that planet and with the clone trooper helmets,

[00:22:25] it links like he didn't want to leave anyone behind. It was that well-organized, trained

[00:22:33] boat, the camaraderie and making sure that everyone gets back from the mission. And it

[00:22:40] was the same with those troopers. And with the Imperial officer,

[00:22:47] that was the, he had the complete opposite.

[00:22:50] It was like, you're just being left here

[00:22:53] because you're expendable to the Empire.

[00:22:57] So it's simply, on bottom four,

[00:23:02] it's almost the same muscle memory kicking him for crosshair

[00:23:06] I just really liked that idea of it but this time it's with Hunter and in some

[00:23:14] ways there's just as much if not at least more on the personal level at

[00:23:18] stake because they were brothers in the bad Batch. There was this, you know, rupture within the Bad Batch and

[00:23:31] it's still early days, you know? Yeah, I agree.

[00:23:36] But I think that also leads us on to our blaster point number three.

[00:23:53] number three. It is that exposing of the inner demons with each other or to each other that has happened here on Barton 4. Yeah, yeah, but Crosshair and Hunter finally laying it

[00:23:59] all on the table. So as you mentioned, Crosshair killed the Imperial officer, Nolan, on this planet in

[00:24:07] the past.

[00:24:08] So this was the turning point for him.

[00:24:11] But you know what?

[00:24:12] I really liked how this was written.

[00:24:13] It wasn't about Crosshair feeling sorry for himself about what he'd done.

[00:24:17] He is saying he thought it would all work out.

[00:24:19] He was a good soldier following orders.

[00:24:21] That's the phrase we've always heard from Crosshair

[00:24:25] until he was dropped in it, until he realized what the Empire was doing. He realized their

[00:24:31] treatment of everybody around him. They were not about getting the clones back from the

[00:24:35] mission. They were just throwing them away, guarding stuff. Nothing important even, and

[00:24:42] allowing them to die at that point but that's not the crux

[00:24:47] of exposing the demons. The bigger demon here is that the reason why Hunter feels the way

[00:24:52] he does about Crosshair is because Crosshair is the one that helped Omega. It wasn't Hunter.

[00:24:58] He travelled across the galaxy but everything that he did was for Nott because it was Omega

[00:25:04] that got herself out

[00:25:05] and Crosshair was the one that helped her. And I love that Crosshair pushes that in his

[00:25:10] face. I just think it was so-

[00:25:11] It is.

[00:25:12] It was such a great moment.

[00:25:13] But it's the whole lead up to that as well. I mean, because Hunter's concern is, he's

[00:25:20] kind of pushing him, tell me what happened, did you not think we would ask questions?

[00:25:27] Effectively, did you betray the empire like you did with us? Which is almost an absurd question,

[00:25:37] in a sense. He ends, as you say, with the fact that you're annoyed because

[00:25:46] he ends, as you say, with the fact that, you know, you're annoyed because she escaped with my help, not yours. But he also, you know, reminds me, and I had actually forgotten about

[00:25:52] it, to be honest, that, you know, he had sent a message there at great risk to him. And

[00:25:58] it wasn't acted on by Hunter because of that distrust. Okay, understandable at the time, but in that sense,

[00:26:10] it's understandable. They didn't know whether they could run with it because of what had happened or

[00:26:17] whether it was a trap. But he also uses that. You didn't act on it and Omega went through what she did because

[00:26:26] of you. So not even just the fact that he helped her escape and escaped with her and

[00:26:34] not haunt her, but also that the reason for her being in Mount Antis is because of haunting.

[00:26:41] So like this was proper in your face.

[00:26:45] Absolutely.

[00:26:46] And it was, it was really good.

[00:26:47] For me, this is true sibling fight level stuff,

[00:26:54] which is like, no, no, no, no, like,

[00:26:57] you're not annoyed at what I've done.

[00:27:00] You're annoyed that you didn't get to help Momma.

[00:27:04] And it's even kind of expanded upon and grown upon in that, in that we see how it's solved.

[00:27:12] When it is solved and the acceptance, there is this begrudging love and connection still

[00:27:20] between these band of brothers, these clones, this bad batch, and it's the acceptance

[00:27:27] of, well, okay, you couldn't help our sister.

[00:27:34] I didn't help our sister.

[00:27:36] She just kind of helped me get me out.

[00:27:39] You know, we'll just get through this.

[00:27:41] Both of us are in the wrong if you want. But it's just it's a really

[00:27:47] just poignant kind of depiction of that which is just like jealous brother's

[00:27:54] brother anger kind of thing. There's definitely some stuff they've done.

[00:27:57] Well there's definitely some stuff Crosshair did that you could definitely argue on like hey you

[00:28:04] tried to shoot and

[00:28:05] kill us being a good soldier. But I think that maybe will come later. But overall, just

[00:28:12] it was just a nice depiction of a family fight. Yeah, but they also feel like they're drawing

[00:28:16] a line under it here. Yes. Great. They realize that the bottom has fallen out of Crosshair's world. That's what made him make the decision

[00:28:25] to kill Nolan. That's why he's been in detention for this long. And he's looking to Hunter

[00:28:35] kind of going, what happened to you when the bottom fell out of your world? You know, we

[00:28:39] had that back in season two when Hunter was hoping to confront him with this information

[00:28:43] about Order 66 and that they didn't have to follow the order. It was just his chip making him

[00:28:47] do it and crosshair telling him no, the chips gone. Remember those scenes where he was saying

[00:28:52] to him, the chips gone? I am doing this because I believe it's the right thing to do and now

[00:28:57] he's finding out or now he's just found out since the last time they met each other and

[00:29:01] wasn't the right thing to do. The Empire had nothing for them.

[00:29:08] And I love that Hunter, in response to him, is saying, we just need to try and be better every day. That's what we did. Let's just try every day

[00:29:12] to be better and hopefully, well, that will lead to more hope in the future if we try better.

[00:29:18] Yeah.

[00:29:18] Every day. I just think it's a great moment between the two of them as they finish off.

[00:29:22] And of course, we get it all sealed with a massive

[00:29:25] bear hug from from Wrecker. Yeah absolutely, which was great. I loved just that kind of you know just

[00:29:33] before the ship takes off. I'd say they've heard the grievance then they have it's slightly more

[00:29:41] you know rational but it's it's cross her deliberately going to talk to Hunter.

[00:29:49] Like it was signposted by Echo at the start of the episode about his mistakes. And as

[00:29:56] you say, yeah, Hans says, we can just try to get better. And yeah, the Wrecker Berhug

[00:30:03] is really good.

[00:30:05] In fact, Rekka is that well, if it's good enough for Omega, it's good enough for me.

[00:30:09] He does the big hug.

[00:30:10] He's real link in the chain, isn't he?

[00:30:14] Really?

[00:30:15] And even just, I think the link with the audience is like, because even as Hunter

[00:30:20] and Crosser are trying to lure out the monsters, like, why is there always a big monster?

[00:30:25] Exactly.

[00:30:26] You know, there's kind of groan of it.

[00:30:29] Why? So, yeah, it's such a good little end.

[00:30:32] That is a nice fourth world break, though. I like that. It's just telling the audience,

[00:30:36] yes, we know there's a monster every week, but that's what you want, but we'll also give you

[00:30:39] the emotional resonance that you expect to get from the Bad Batch. So, great job. Great job.

[00:30:44] And the only other thing I just want to

[00:30:46] note about the episode is just just because Amiga called today and they always

[00:30:51] forget that she is the older sibling, she was effectively brought into the world

[00:30:55] before the rest of the Bat-Batch and they were all aged up and she wasn't.

[00:30:58] So I do like that she says that to Crosshair

[00:31:00] when he tells her she shouldn't be going on the mission,

[00:31:03] even though he knows she's fully capable of it and Hunter doesn't want her to go, he knows she's fully capable

[00:31:09] and she says, no, I'm the older one. I'm a let go. Don't call me Kit, basically. So, I like that.

[00:31:15] Good stuff.

[00:31:16] One final bit for me just on this, which is more back to Blast Point One when we were in Pabu.

[00:31:23] and more kind of back to Blastpoint 1 when we were in Pabu.

[00:31:29] They talk about, they say they could buy the tech. They all have that kind of movement.

[00:31:32] We still haven't seen the body of tech.

[00:31:34] Yeah, that is true.

[00:31:35] We never saw anything.

[00:31:36] That's very true.

[00:31:37] This is, I just, I want to posit one thing,

[00:31:40] which is just, we never saw the body of tech.

[00:31:44] We know that that's where Hemlock was.

[00:31:48] We never saw what was in some of the vats.

[00:31:51] I wonder if tech is in one of those vats and that's how we will, how tech

[00:32:00] will be brought back to a degree.

[00:32:02] Just because again, we never saw the body and I

[00:32:05] think neither crosshair is back. I feel they may bring the botch back fully together towards

[00:32:14] the end just to kind of then kill them all again and slowly kind of wreck our hands.

[00:32:19] Oh Chris.

[00:32:20] Yeah, just kind of.

[00:32:21] I was with you there.

[00:32:22] I was inevitable.

[00:32:23] I was with you there and where the show was going to end with a scrolling credit. They all went

[00:32:29] on to live long and happy lives away from the Empire on a planet far away. But they're

[00:32:34] going to kill them all.

[00:32:35] Yeah, absolutely.

[00:32:36] Bring them back to town.

[00:32:37] It's going to be like the end of Blackadder goes forth, where they're just all coming

[00:32:44] over the ridge.

[00:32:46] And it fades to black and white.

[00:32:49] No, I just, it just kind of the fact that they had the goodbye for tech and then they

[00:32:56] just didn't linger enough on it.

[00:32:57] I'm like, I get the feeling his goodbye is not done yet.

[00:33:02] That's because they know we've been crying about it for over a year.

[00:33:05] Since the last season came out, they're like,

[00:33:07] let's not drill into too much.

[00:33:08] We have all this stuff to get through.

[00:33:10] I know. I know. I know it to be, Chris.

[00:33:12] I think that would be a lovely twist for the show to bring to bring Tech back.

[00:33:16] But the twist being that he's been tortured for for a year to to make him one of Hemlock's experiments.

[00:33:24] It'd be a big reveal.

[00:33:25] I wouldn't put it past them.

[00:33:27] Hemlock has goggles at Sid's Bar.

[00:33:30] So he could very well be in the custody of Hemlock.

[00:33:35] Any final notes there from anyone?

[00:33:40] Nope, that was all my majors.

[00:33:41] Nothing else to beat.

[00:33:42] Excellent stuff.

[00:33:44] Let us get on to our final thoughts.

[00:33:48] Chris, what are your final thoughts for episode five?

[00:33:51] Loved it.

[00:33:52] I loved this one, even though it was a monster week

[00:33:54] and I usually complain when there's a monster

[00:33:56] of the week type of approach.

[00:33:57] This for me, it was a monster of the week in the background.

[00:34:01] Literally a monster of the week in the background.

[00:34:03] It was, this story was about the reuniting and the reconciliation of the remaining batch, the remaining brothers.

[00:34:13] And I think that's, they made, there's still going to be work to be done to

[00:34:18] pair that trust. But as you said, they fell back into their roles. They at the end did accept and you got the wrecker hug to kind of seal the deal.

[00:34:30] So this is kind of, Derek I think you said it, this firmly kind of just plants the flag

[00:34:36] of like this is the end.

[00:34:39] We're moving forward into the next chapter now.

[00:34:42] So very interested to see kind of what that next chapter is,

[00:34:45] which I'm assuming is taking down Hemlock and Manktantas, saving their main inclines.

[00:34:51] So yeah, really enjoyed it.

[00:34:53] Good stuff. Derek, what did you think of episode five?

[00:34:59] Love the best episode of the season so far, and I like that it's built up to this episode.

[00:35:03] Everything else was getting the whole team back together. As I said at the beginning, just the choice of having it

[00:35:08] only be Dee Bradley Baker and Amiga and just a little moment with the 83 is a great choice

[00:35:14] because this episode absolutely had to happen. We had to have a moment where they all near

[00:35:19] the grievances go right, that's it. Now we're moving on with the batch again. We have a

[00:35:23] bigger plan to get to account just to be about us traveling around the galaxy to get Amiga back or what

[00:35:32] they were doing earlier on. I was kind of joking a couple of weeks ago, Chris, when

[00:35:35] we were talking about the first episode of the season and saying that this could be the

[00:35:40] entire season. It could have been the batch traveling across the galaxy trying to find a mega and they get her back in episode 15.

[00:35:46] Big hug from record and credits at the story.

[00:35:49] But there's a much bigger story about the clones.

[00:35:52] What happens to all of the clones that were created for the army

[00:35:55] and dropped by the empire?

[00:35:57] Now we will be moving into that phase of this story.

[00:35:59] How will Rex and echo specifically because they seem to be the two leaders

[00:36:04] of that group

[00:36:05] that are going after the clones trying to get them back,

[00:36:07] how do they accomplish the mission now

[00:36:09] with the help of the Bad Batch to take down Tantis

[00:36:13] and to take down Dr. Henlock's operation?

[00:36:15] So that's a really exciting phase of the story

[00:36:18] that we're going into.

[00:36:19] Looking forward to that.

[00:36:20] How about yourself, John?

[00:36:20] What's your final thoughts on the Bad Batch 305?

[00:36:23] Yeah, I loved this episode as well. I give this five spicy, icy dune worms out of five.

[00:36:31] Yeah, I just think it's a really great reconnection with the remaining Bad Batch

[00:36:38] all together again. And actually, with a significant amount of trauma from Crosshair,

[00:36:46] and the gradual sort of thawing of Hunter here,

[00:36:52] but only gradual, they've still got to work on it,

[00:36:55] but a realisation of what his brother has gone through,

[00:36:59] has clicked here.

[00:37:03] And in no small part down to the fact that Crosshair

[00:37:07] challenged himself to realize why things had changed,

[00:37:13] but also to challenge Hunter's preconceptions.

[00:37:16] So love that.

[00:37:17] Loved Wrecker in this episode, you know,

[00:37:20] in a sense not right up there up front,

[00:37:23] but I think three really important moments

[00:37:26] for Rekka in this episode.

[00:37:29] And like you said at the start,

[00:37:30] I think having just literally the bad batch

[00:37:35] on the screen was really a necessary thing to do

[00:37:41] with them all getting back together.

[00:37:44] Obviously, mine is tech, but we have that little nod

[00:37:47] to him being lost, presumed dead.

[00:37:52] And so, yeah, for me, five spicy icy dune worms

[00:37:57] out of five for this episode.

[00:37:59] Great stuff.

[00:38:00] Well, yeah, let's raise a glass to tech

[00:38:03] as we go over to the canteen.

[00:38:04] For the canteen, of course. Jeez, let's raise a glass to tech as we go over to the Cantina. Indeed, let us do that. Fellow quizzes, fellow bachelors, welcome to the Bad Batch

[00:38:12] Cantina quiz for season 3. We are on episode 5, so of course we are on

[00:38:19] question 5. The question is, what is Crosshair's target success rate down to as he practices his aim on Pabu?

[00:38:47] Excellent stuff. That's question five. If you've missed any of the questions so far,

[00:38:50] pop on over to our website at TVPodcastIndustries.com. All the questions

[00:38:54] should be up there by now for the questions so far. There are a total of 15 questions in this

[00:38:58] Cantina quiz and you could get your hands on five Funko Pops of The Bad Batch by sending your correct

[00:39:05] answers into feedback at TVPodcastIndustries.com and one lucky

[00:39:10] batcher will get their hands on those. Yes, good stuff. Let's move on to our

[00:39:15] feedback from last week's episode, episode four from our fellow batches. Yes,

[00:39:21] it's just me for feedback for The Bad Batch for this week. John has gone away and

[00:39:26] we didn't get a chance to record the feedback before he left. If you want to keep me company

[00:39:29] for the next couple of weeks, you can email in your feedback for any of the episodes of

[00:39:34] the Bad Batch to feedback at TVPodcastIndustries.com and I'll pop in the feedback after each of

[00:39:39] the episodes.

[00:39:40] First up, on the first three episodes, Donald Dennis sent in some feedback which came in

[00:39:44] a little bit late for last week's podcast

[00:39:46] He says about episode one to three after the first three episodes

[00:39:49] I'm convinced that this will be the best

[00:39:51] Season of Bad Batch heck the boys even managed to catch a bounty and get it turned in without completely messing up the mission

[00:39:56] Even if their payout was only another link in the chain

[00:39:59] Perhaps it was because I watched all three in one sitting but I didn't find it went overboard in the depressing like you did

[00:40:04] It felt like the showrunners did what they needed to build

[00:40:06] up empathy and show what the characters were feeling without making me want to stop watching.

[00:40:10] Thanks for that Donald. Yeah, I think it was me that was probably most depressed by that

[00:40:14] first episode but I think that's, you know, that was just to give the thoughts as I felt

[00:40:18] them watching the first episode. By the end of the three episodes, yeah, I think they

[00:40:22] were, I was very upbeat about them and I do think this season

[00:40:25] has been great so far. It's been really really good overall. Yeah, I love that the final two

[00:40:30] members of the Bad Batch record and Hunter do get to complete a mission but it is off screen

[00:40:37] and mostly when we see them go on a mission in an episode they fail and or don't achieve what they

[00:40:42] want to achieve I suppose and that's kind of the same in this episode. They don't achieve what they want to achieve. Thanks for that, Donald.

[00:40:54] Facebook VictoronDoom says the Stormtroopers are earning their reputation as not hitting

[00:40:58] the broad side of a bantha. They obviously don't know not to stand behind a ship's engine or even

[00:41:03] when to duck. I was happy to see the crooked captain get it.

[00:41:07] The Hemlock and Crosshair seemed to have the same hand issues.

[00:41:10] Results of the same experiment, maybe?

[00:41:12] The reunion was touching.

[00:41:13] I'm sure Omega can make peace between Crosshair and the others.

[00:41:17] Props to Filonion Co.

[00:41:19] Excellent stuff.

[00:41:20] Yes, I see you've noticed the same issue that we've been noticing, Victor, about the hands

[00:41:24] of Hemlock and Crosshair

[00:41:26] that both seem to be shaking. So what is it that's causing that? It would be very interesting to see.

[00:41:31] Thanks Victor! Also on Facebook, Russell Hooper says,

[00:41:34] 3 out of 4 episodes of The Hunter and Wrecker. Wild. I know they were just in the end of episode

[00:41:39] 4 but weren't in the full episodes before that. I fully expected Amiga to mind trick the ticket

[00:41:43] agent. Great catch by Victor Von Doom on Hemlock and Crosshair. Amiga's proven to be a pretty good pilot.

[00:41:49] That very broken shuttle descended at a steep angle, yet she pulled it level enough to survive

[00:41:54] the crash. She had a great teacher.

[00:41:57] So where should the batch go from here? I say lay low for a few years, let the trail

[00:42:01] go cold. On a side note, I'd like to propose something.

[00:42:05] Names for our two Star Wars galaxies. The original galaxy is the Lucas Galaxy and the

[00:42:08] new one is the Filoni Galaxy. If Disney won't name them, then we should.

[00:42:12] I kind of like that Russell. Yeah, the Lucas Galaxy and the Filoni Galaxy. But the two

[00:42:17] of them do combine quite often and now, especially with Filoni in the lead at the moment. Where's

[00:42:23] the mask go from here? Yeah, definitely. Should go back to Pabu, chill out there and hopefully the empire doesn't find them there

[00:42:30] in the future. And exactly as you say, Omega is a very good pilot taught very well by tech in the

[00:42:36] past of course. Thanks Russell. And Dr. Bob Phillips says, oh they've got their daughter back

[00:42:42] and like the famous five with Timmy the dog or Batch of the Lurker Hound from The Edge of Hell, I'm sure they'll have Japieson, Ginger

[00:42:48] Beer a plenty, or more likely slavery extortion than near death experiences. Enjoy seeing

[00:42:53] Amiga use her talents to the fore this time, and it's always good to get a Yorkshire villain.

[00:42:58] The animation of the Misty Breath was magnificent. Absolutely Dr. Bob, the animation on this

[00:43:03] show is just so, so good.

[00:43:06] Really, really good. Yeah, I'd be doubtful they're going to be able to rest on their

[00:43:08] laurels for very long after this episode because we're only five episodes into the season,

[00:43:14] right? So, got lots, lots more to go. Brilliant stuff. Thanks everybody for your feedback.

[00:43:18] I'll hand you back to John and myself and Chris from the past to finish the episode

[00:43:22] and we'll be talking again next week. Please

[00:43:25] keep sending in your feedback to us.

[00:43:27] So I think that's it until next week when we are going to be back with not one but two

[00:43:34] episodes as we dive back into our chit chat about all things Star Wars The Bad Batch with Episode 6 Infiltration and Episode 7 Extraction on March 13th and

[00:43:49] we'll be going back to ultra violent adult animation of Invincible Season 2 or at least

[00:43:58] Chris and Derek will be.

[00:43:59] Yeah and I actually think it'll be Chris and me for infiltration and extraction as well

[00:44:04] John. Because you'll be infiltrating an extraction a holiday.

[00:44:07] That is true. I will be away.

[00:44:09] He will be away.

[00:44:10] Not on holiday though.

[00:44:11] Yeah, he will be away next week. But if you want to hear John's voice, you can always hear him on

[00:44:16] our Shogun podcast, which also comes out every Wednesday as we talk about the epic Japanese

[00:44:21]
