Lanterns Episode 4 Review

Derek and John chat all about the very twisty Lanterns Episode 4 "The Weenie" in full spoiler filled detail. Do we know who the Manhunter is or just get even more candidates for the list?

Lanterns Episode 4 “The Weenie” Synopsis

Episode Written by: Breannah Gibson

Episode Directed By: Geeta Vasant Patel

In 2016, Sinestro gives Hal Jordan information about the Manhunters physiology and also suggests delivering the Manhunter to the Guardians to undermine John Stewart, proving he is unfit to replace him as Earth's Green Lantern.

Meanwhile back on Earth, as John and Hal continue to hang around Rushville, John is visited by the Guardian, Lianna, at his motel room who tells him the time in now right for him to replace Hal and urges him to take the ring.

With the Alien Antaan's, 48 hour deadline to identify the Manhunter rapidly approaching, Hal and John's stakeout of the Macon ranch identifies a hidden structure or "Weenie" being guarded by several lookout towers. Suspecting William's benefactor is at his ranch, Hal and John infiltrate the property, after looping in Sheriff Kerry Kane, and discover an armoury of high-tech weapons. After triggering an alarm they are captured and brought in front of William Macon. John is asked to draw William in the nude, while his wife, Zoe is present. During this unusual capture, William reveals quite a lot to Hal and John and also tells them he is protecting the benefactor's identity in exchange for ensuring Rushville's safety. Half and John are saved by the intervention of Sheriff Kane who takes them into custody.

Later, Zoe secretly visits John at his motel room to convince him to leave town but fails and in so doing also reveals a lot more as she extends her stay with John in his room. Leaving the motel with a bounce in her step, Zoe's truck is destroyed by an orbital strike and she apparently dies.

Hal and John, with the help from Kerry Kane who has been gathering evidence from her husband's files, traces the attack to Atlas, Inc. A company involved in high-tech abattoirs and owned by Hector Hammond. When Hal pushes his bluff he owns up to being a decoy and identifies William as the real Manhunter.

However, Hal later deduces that Zoe is the Manhunter and that John already knew it. After he gets John to call Antaan to arrange a meeting, Hal jumps from their car and causes it to crash, leaving John inside.

[00:00:00] This is the Lanterns Podcast on TV Podcast Industries and we're discussing Lanterns Episode 4, The Weenie. So who's this manhunter? I'm sure you have a theory. We think it's Macon's benefactor. And because your husband is Macon's lawyer, I'm guessing that you know the moneymaker's identity. Honestly, I don't. Come on, you're his wife.

[00:00:28] We don't have that kind of relationship. I've lived here a long time and I've never seen Macon's money guy. How do you two even think you're going to get to him? We think he's in a building on the ranch. Junior calls it a weenie and we're going to pay a visit to it. Okay. Okay, that's it? Aliens are going to blow up my town. Finding him will stop them, right? Right. Probably. You're only going to get one shot at this. Do not miss.

[00:00:59] We're going to get one shot at this. Do not miss. Welcome back, fellow Lanterns, fellow Guardians.

[00:01:27] This is the Lanterns podcast on TV Podcast Industries. And we're here talking all about Lanterns, episode four, the weenie. I am one of your hosts, John Harrison. I am your other host, Derek O'Neill. I will not be exposing my weenie on this podcast. Yes. Audio podcast. I presume Walt Disney was talking about something else, John Stewart. Maybe. When he called his architectural, his hidden architectural structure a weenie. Yes.

[00:01:58] But John Stewart is also an architect and, you know, I think he probably knows the right term. I think it's just one of those weird anomalies that when you choose the term in 1930s, 1940s, a couple of years later, it suddenly means something very different. That is true. But I do love that moment when Hal turns around to John and goes, well, I guess we did see Macon's weenie. Yes. Anyway, we are here for the fourth episode of Lanterns. Yes, we are. Again, another really good episode for me.

[00:02:28] I am loving this series. It's great. I just think there's a really nice mix of just the mystery, good snappy humour, back and forth, and also just some good character development. I'm enjoying the story is basically what I'm saying. Definitely. And the cast and the writing is great. Yeah, exactly. Some great special effects too. It's really going down a treat, really, in my brain anyway. Definitely. Definitely.

[00:02:57] We hope it is with you as well, our fellow guardians. If you haven't subscribed to the podcast, a reminder to pop on over to our website at tvpodcastindustries.com to subscribe there on any green, blue, white lantern podcast player of your choice as well. You can email us with your thoughts on any of the episodes that we're covering on TV Podcast Industries to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com, which is the same place at the end of the series where you can email. Your answers to our Rushville Redneck Pub Quiz.

[00:03:25] The next question of which will be up later on in this episode. There'll be eight questions given out across the course of the series. And at the end, you may be able to get your hands on some lanterns goodies if you get them all right. Yes, fellow lanterns and of course, fellow quizzers. Yeah. Can't wait to see the results of this upcoming Rushville Redneck Bar Quiz. Yeah, should be fun. Always do enjoy a good bar quiz or pub quiz. Yeah.

[00:03:50] And thankfully, because it's HBO, there are some good lanterns related goodies available as well. They have their little shop open at the moment. Unfortunately, they do have a replica of the ring, but it's apparently on back order till about November. So if that does happen to be one of the items that's available in the goodies, you may get it, but it may be late. There you go. Yes, indeed.

[00:04:14] Yes, there's nothing worse though than bad merch associated with good TV shows. Primarily as well, comic orientated TV shows because you just think the merch, the merchandise would be one of the big things coming from these types of shows. So well done, HBO. Absolutely. I'm sure there's quite a few viewers that would love to have a replica of John Stewart's drawing of Gareth Delehunt. Absolutely.

[00:04:45] Dare I say it, just a nude version of John Stewart. Well, that too, maybe. Yeah, yeah, maybe. No, Zoe. Absolutely, yeah. Off she goes, you know. Need seconds. But let us get on with our spoiler-filled discussion of this fourth episode of Lanterns. Derek, what are some of the episode details? Well, the showrunners for the show, of course, are Chris Mundy, Damian Lindelof and Tom King.

[00:05:13] This episode was written by Brianna Gibson, her first episode of the series. She also wrote next week's episode, episode five. Previously, we talked about Brianna's contribution to our other DC show, The Penguin. She wrote episode five. That was the episode where Sophia introduced the Giganti family to Gotham. So, yeah, really good episode of Penguin as well. If you haven't seen Penguin and you're sitting here watching Lanterns and going, oh, I'd love to see a show like that, but set in a crime-ridden city like Gotham, go watch Penguin. Well, absolutely.

[00:05:41] I think William Macon is from the Giganti family as well. He certainly is. He certainly is. The episode was directed by Gita Vassan Patel. She will be directing three episodes this season, including this one, and directs episode five and episode seven. She also directed three episodes of House of the Dragon, a show we absolutely love watching too, and directed the penultimate episode of Ahsoka season one. Excellent. We've talked about it before as well? Oh, that's a big one then, the penultimate. It was, yeah. It was a massive episode, yeah. Excellent stuff, yeah.

[00:06:11] Good pedigree is going on here, I think, with the writing and directing. Definitely, definitely. Exactly. HBO always seem to get their hands on great writers and directors for their shows as well, so that's why the quality is so good on HBO, really. Yeah, absolutely. So, John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with your synopsis for Lanterns episode four, The Weenie? Sure. In 2016, Sinestro gives Hal Jordan information about the Manhunter's physiology and also suggests delivering the Manhunter to the Guardians to undermine Jon Stewart,

[00:06:41] proving he is unfit to replace him as Earth's Green Lantern. Meanwhile, back on Earth, as Jon and Hal continue to hang around Rushville, Jon is visited by the Guardian, Leanna, at his motel room, who tells him the time is now right for him to replace Hal and urges him to take the ring. With the alien Antan's 48-hour deadline to identify the Manhunter rapidly approaching,

[00:07:07] Hal and Jon's stakeout of the Macon Ranch identifies a hidden structure, or weenie, being guarded by several lookout towers. Suspecting William's benefactor is at his ranch, Hal and Jon infiltrate the property after looping in Sheriff Kerry Kane and discover an armory of high-tech weapons. After triggering an alarm, they are captured and brought in front of William Macon. Jon is asked to draw William in the nude while his wife, Zoe, is present.

[00:07:36] During this unusual capture, William reveals quite a lot to Hal and Jon, and also tells them he is protecting the benefactor's identity in exchange for ensuring Rushville's safety. Hal and Jon are saved only by the intervention of Sheriff Kane, who takes them into custody. Later, Zoe secretly visits Jon at his motel room to convince him to leave town, but fails,

[00:08:01] and in so doing, also reveals a lot more about herself as she extends her stay with Jon in his room. Leaving the motel with a bounce in her step, Zoe's truck is tragically destroyed by an orbital strike, and she apparently dies. Hal and Jon, with the help from Kerry Kane, who has been gathering evidence from her husband's files, traces the attack to Atlas Incorporated, a company involved in high-tech abattoirs, and owned by Hector Hammond.

[00:08:30] When Hal pushes his bluff, he owns up to being a decoy and identifies William as the real Manhunter. However, Hal later deduces that Zoe is the Manhunter, and that Jon already knew it. After he gets Jon to call Anton to arrange a meeting, Hal jumps from their car and causes it to crash, leaving Jon inside. Who's the Manhunter now? Me. I know, there's about 16 different.

[00:09:00] And theories still in the episode. I reckon it's Kerry Kane. You know what? And it could be Leanna. There's a moment that it felt like it was Kerry in this episode, you know, where she's going, we don't have that kind of relationship when asked a pretty straightforward question. I was going, hang on, why do you not have that kind of relationship with your husband? Is it because you're the Manhunter? Yeah, well, it's a weird response to that question. I mean, I, you know, arguably she could be just saying, you know, I'm not in his business.

[00:09:29] Attorney client privilege as well. Exactly. Yeah. So, you know, it could be that. But equally, she's in the loop. You know, as Hal says, I'm looping her in. Yeah. She is involved in all this. So if the Manhunter has a good chance of being able to sort of get a couple of steps ahead, it's because the Manhunter is Kerry Kane. Absolutely. Also, currently hugely under the radar. So, also very good.

[00:09:56] Now, they do keep saying that the reason why it can't be is because she has records that are before. They know the Manhunter was on the planet. So, yeah, there's definitely no way anybody could falsify records at all. That would be impossible in a city like Gotham. Such a high-tech person being able to sort of infiltrate and, yes, correct different records or even just insert them in. Yeah. Yes, I don't think they would be capable of that.

[00:10:24] So, really, what Hal has to do is go around town pulling out people's hearts and seeing if they turn to Crystal just to see who is the Manhunter. That's basically it. Exactly. But, John, will we get into our powering points for the episode? I think we should get into our powering points. First up, powering point number one. Four. Never gets old.

[00:10:54] It might be getting old. Never gets old. For our listeners. Yes. Maybe for our editor. We are on to our powering point number one. Sinestro. Yeah. I must say, I am really, really, really enjoying this Sinestro and he's hardly been on screen. I like the design, the vibe of him. Just, you know, not outrageous, but, you know, quietly threatening. Yes.

[00:11:24] Very calculated. Very methodical. I'm just really, really enjoying it. And, I mean, arguably a lot of these opening bits with Sinestro are what we saw at the end of episode two. So, some of the same conversation and dialogue. But this I really, really enjoyed.

[00:11:48] And I do just like the quiet authority that Ulrich Thompson is bringing here as Sinestro. That is really good, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I could sort of lap up those conversations, even if it was just in the planet prison. Because I think this Sinestro has made a really good impression.

[00:12:13] And weirdly, I think it was Mark Strong in the original Green Lanterns was probably one of the better things about that movie. Well, I would say casting Mark Strong in any role in any movie is usually a really good thing. It's a terrible movie and the role is pretty poor, unfortunately. It's completely misused, if not miscast. He was, you cast him in the movie, he's going to do a great performance. But even he couldn't save it. No, agreed. Yeah.

[00:12:40] But here, this is a really good Sinestro. They've made reference, and I think we mentioned it the last time we saw Sinestro, that this is intended to evoke Silence of the Lambs. It's intended to evoke your main investigator speaking to Hannibal Lecter behind bars. So there's definitely an element to that. We can definitely feel that as well.

[00:13:03] So much so, I think I've watched about six episodes of the first season of Hannibal this week, because it's been in my mind so much. So that's because of Lanterns. But I wanted to come back to one quick point, because we mentioned last time the ending of the episode with Sinestro when Hal walked in. Sinestro was talking about the fact that the Manhunter will be the second biggest threat to Hal, and that Jon Stewart could potentially be the first threat.

[00:13:29] But we were wondering whether it was just how they were cutting that cliffhanger at the end of the episode, or whether Sinestro genuinely means that Jon is the biggest threat to Hal. And he does. Well, at least he has that conversation with Hal that he believes Jon's the biggest threat. And there's this big question. Hang on a second. You're on a planet on your own. You have no contact with anybody. How would you possibly know about Jon Stewart? Sinestro saying to Hal, well, you know, my trainee got a trainee.

[00:13:59] Those types of things tend to make waves and tend to find their ways to my ears. So Sinestro does have some kind of connection to the outside world. I suppose somebody brings up food. No, absolutely. Absolutely. And I think as well here with Sinestro, he says, you know, well, you don't believe he's your backup, do you? You know, and Hal is like, no, I don't. Well, then what is he? And he's like forced to confront his replacement.

[00:14:26] I think Sinestro also says my trainee has a trainee as well. And I think that's just a nice little, you know, moment here where, like you say, in solitary confinement in a dungeon, he has his threads going, you know, his little birds, a bit like Varys on Game of Thrones, going out, bringing him information.

[00:14:55] I do like the fact he's kind of, you know, probing as, you know, where did the Guardians get him? You know, it's the Marines. And he's like, well, you will need to kill Jon Stewart, though, he says. And it's like, at least Hal says no, because, I mean, like when asked why, he's like, well, I'm not evil. Just because I don't like him doesn't mean I'll kill him.

[00:15:17] But then, you know, Sinestro, after that sort of more direct way of undermining Jon Stewart by death or murder, you know, does kind of place the idea in the mind of how to undermine Jon Stewart here by effectively, you know,

[00:15:44] bringing Manhunter to the Guardians directly rather than Jon Stewart. Thereby, in a sense, I think he says, disgracing Jon in the process. If you do this, you'll be able to get your job back, basically, and impress the Guardians. So that's an interesting one. And definitely something I feel like after watching this episode a couple of times, something else that came out of the conversation is how Sinestro tells Hal to undermine Jon

[00:16:12] and how to deal with him is basically if he's fearless and you believe that he's fearless, he'll also be arrogant and he'll be blinded to the fact that you're trying to manipulate him to get the Manhunter and bring him back to the Guardians and keep your job effectively. So if you notice from that point onwards in the episode, Hal seems to be dealing with Jon in a bit of a different way than he has so far. I do like the fact as well it sort of triggers Hal to say, is that how you treated me? Exactly. To Sinestro. Very much so, yeah.

[00:16:41] You know, realizing maybe the method that was used to sort of deceive him. So this was a really good back and forth and pitter-patter between Hal and Sinestro here. Absolutely. And we learn in a conversation later on that's had in the episode, we learn that Hal is telling Jon and instructing Jon to keep everybody at a distance. This is an effing lonely job, he says.

[00:17:12] Keep everyone at a distance from now on for the rest of your life or else you'll be hurt and so will they effectively is what Hal's saying. And it feels like here he's talking about Sinestro. Yeah. Himself and Sinestro had such a close relationship. Again, mirroring the relationship that Jon at least wanted to have with Hal. Hal had that relationship with Sinestro in the past. I really want to see the flashback, which I hope is coming in a future episode where we see the two of them working side by side

[00:17:38] because we haven't seen much of nice Hal since we saw that flash to what he was like in 1996. This is around the time he was working with Sinestro, we understand. And from this point onwards, we see the Guardians are effectively saying that they want Jon to take over immediately from Hal now because he's broken his oath and gone to visit Sinestro. So this mentor-mentee relationship, this close connection between the two of them means that Jon has broken his oath, gone against what the Guardians want,

[00:18:07] gone to talk to Sinestro, gotten this information from him to treat Jon differently. And he does. Well, and to find out about Manhunters as well. Like, what does he know about Manhunters? So he does get or glean that information we learn later. But it is also that Sinestro also then dominates that conversation for his own purposes. And you get that sense of Sinestro's threads throughout this, not just in terms of how they're playing through.

[00:18:37] So on the one hand, it's that Jon is thinking of how to sort of get back in favour with the Guardians. But it's also by Jon going, by bringing the Manhunter, it's also precipitated this whole visit has precipitated this violation of his oath for Hal. Yeah. Which then is precipitating Leanna going to Jon to say,

[00:19:06] you now have to take the ring. And thirdly, like you say, just how he personally, whether it's in small talk or whether it's about asking how Jon's mum is doing, you know, post Sinestro, it feels a little bit more personal in certain instances or more chummy, I guess. Yes, absolutely. So I love how the threads of Sinestro sort of go through this episode via Hal

[00:19:34] and actually what it's kick-started. Exactly. Yeah, absolutely. And one of the other things I was going to mention, we were talking about the potential Manhunters in the episode. And even by the end, when it seems to confirm who is the Manhunter, I'm still questioning it. One of the other candidates for that, for me, definitely is Leanna after this episode, who's presented herself as a guardian, is talking to Jon. But interestingly, in the past, every single Green Lantern has been chosen by a ring.

[00:20:03] Here in this show, Jon Stewart's been chosen by the guardians. He's only met one of them. She appears in his hotel room and says to him, the next time Hal gives you the ring, then you say the oath, and then you'll be the Green Lantern for this sector. And Jon kind of goes, questions the same way I did. Hang on a second. What do you mean you won't tell Hal that he is being replaced? I have to do that?

[00:20:29] Undermine him and steal the position as Green Lantern from underneath him? That seems like a really odd way to do this, doesn't it? Suddenly Hal's thrown out on the street and I've got his ring and I'm now the new Lantern. That's never happened before that I understand anyway. So it makes me think Leanna is manipulating Jon. We hear a comment in the episode that the Manhunter will find a position of power, manipulate that position of power until they have the power.

[00:20:58] So it feels like Leanna is doing that with Jon. He is a person that could potentially take the power of the Green Lantern and hand that power over to the Manhunter, basically. Or be manipulated by the Manhunter. Absolutely. And I mean, I'm... Makes sense? Yeah, no, absolutely. Like, it's certainly not clear yet that the Manhunter, despite what they have done in the past, despite what Antan, the alien, has said they did to his people,

[00:21:27] you know, why did Abansur have this Manhunter in tow at the time? Was it because it had been, like, taken into custody? Or was he trying to protect it in some way? Again, this pathway to power and privilege within the community in Rushville or more galactically with the Guardians, as you say?

[00:21:54] Because ultimately the Guardians are on board with what is happening around Jon Stewart, but it's that manipulation, potentially, by Leanna. But it is known by the Guardians, as we understand. Well, is it? Yeah, I don't know. She's the conduit, but nobody else is talking to them. But Hal is going back to... But Hal knows that he's his trainee from the Guardians.

[00:22:22] So unless it's going directly from Leanna and no other Guardian, then if it was just a ruse... Yeah, true. Yeah. The other Guardians would be going, well, what are you talking about? True. But we know that he has limited connection to them because of his interaction with Sinestro. But I think this is all stuff that we're supposed to think about. And definitely one of the cool things about this show, because it's four episodes in of eight, we've got another...

[00:22:50] We're only halfway through, so we should be still questioning everybody as to who's the Manhunter. Because that's the kind of central mystery right now. Absolutely. Agreed. I think the other great thing here with Leanna, though, is just how difficult, when she speaks to Jon Stewart, just how difficult it becomes. I mean, we see that Jon is... He originally has gotten a call from his dad saying that the Guardian is trying to get in contact. And he kind of... I think you just hear him say, I'll go and get mum. Yeah.

[00:23:20] Your mother. And he hangs up. Yeah. But as Leanna comes in, you know, and tells him he, you know, you have to go and get it. You must take it. He's like, oh, I didn't realise I would have to do the act. I thought it would be the Guardians just giving it to me. And Leanna's like, I didn't realise your dad's weakness runs through you. So harsh. Really harsh.

[00:23:48] But in fairness to Jon, he bites back, you know, I've worked my life for it. That ring is mine. That a-hole is just keeping it warm for me. And that seems to satisfy that, you know, enough. But it's just this immediate sort of poke and prod by Leanna at Jon. Manipulation. And pure manipulation.

[00:24:15] But he's resolute with that, like, I've been doing this since before I was five. This is mine. I love that that is so definite in him on the basis of his parents' training. Even though he could be being manipulated by Leanna or the Guardians or Leanna as a manhunter or whatever.

[00:24:42] But, you know, it's just really, really potentially how this will all sort of unfold is really intriguing. It is. It is definitely. And I suppose as the episode goes on, knowing that Jon didn't actually take the opportunity at any point to take the ring, say the oath, and become the Green Lantern. Even after this moment where he attacks back at Leanna. It's also quite interesting to his story, isn't it? That he told her, that's my ring. I will absolutely do it.

[00:25:11] And had two opportunities, I think, to do it. And didn't do it. No, exactly. I think one of the things I do like is that she says, well, Hal Jordan has been giving us reports. And he's saying that you're uncreative. I know this links into our second point as well.

[00:25:30] But I do like that, you know, just before they go to infiltrate Macon's ranch, that he gives him a drawing of something that he should materialize with the Green Ring. And he goes, I'm creative. Yeah. Like just a little prod back at Hal as well. After that interaction with Leanna. I'm creative. It's just really, I just like it.

[00:25:59] It's a nice little touch. It's almost like he's saying to him, I have heard about your reports. Yeah. Don't think that you're in isolation. And I also love, again, Hal goes, oh, why don't you create a junior who's the ring? Because Hal can't create something as complicated as that. Exactly. The really good stuff. Is that in our point number one about Sinestra? Absolutely. I think we should get in to our powering point number two. Yes. Powering point number two.

[00:26:28] Weirder than a planet of sentient tentacles. Or as my favorite news story connected to lanterns this week, accidentally misread this as weirder than a planet of sentient testicles. And went on a search through all of DC Green Lantern history to find out, was it ever mentioned that there's a sentient planet of testicles in there? Well done, IGN. Definitely need your subtitles on when you're going down a very weird path of what type of aliens there are in the galaxy. No, absolutely.

[00:26:56] They did find one, though, which made it even funnier. Yeah, well, fur juice. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I had to watch it a second time once you said that just to make sure. Did I just think, given the whole situation in the study, that it was actually testicles? Was that the intention rather than tentacles? Anyway, it was really...

[00:27:25] This, I think, second point is really kind of unique for me as to how weird it was. But also just how telegraphed it was as well, that weirdness by the actors in it. But it did lead to some really good, nice little bits of humor.

[00:27:45] It also added in some really nice mystery over the high-tech weapons that were seen and used by the militia on Macon's farm as well. This darkness, I think... Well, yeah, he calls it out. He says they're prepared for any type of invasion, including, basically, if any Green Lanterns turn on them. They wouldn't have to use the weapons that they were given if the Green Lanterns didn't turn on them, right? That's what Macon says.

[00:28:15] So that black smoke that's emitted that seems to block the abilities of the Green Ring, that's only there if they're attacked by Green Lanterns, and they were. So, yeah, what an interesting set of space-age weapons are available to Macon's men to block any attack from anybody that could be a threat to the Manhunter. Yeah, absolutely.

[00:28:41] Yeah, that was really, really good, seeing that. And then you get the study as well here where... And again, it's the power control, isn't it? It's not just that he is naked, lounging on the front of his study desk as he's being painted by one of his prisoners. Yeah. It's that the other prisoner is completely distracted by this.

[00:29:11] Like, he does ask Jon Stewart, this is some weird shit. Absolutely. You know? I'm right, aren't I? But it's not just about that. It's also about the fact, in particular for Jon Stewart, that he tells his wife to stay, and he has the bite back when... You know, I think when Hal says, well, look, you can cover up now because Junior here can... He can draw really good from memory. And he's like...

[00:29:38] Macon just says, well, maybe you'd like to draw my wife then. Exactly. So, like, it's all this power play coming from Macon. Absolutely. Absolutely. But we do get lots of information revealed about the Manhunter. Here, he says Manhunter arrived when he was told he was going to die of cancer. The Manhunter cured his cancer. He said that Zoe was his nurse at the time when all the doctors had turned their back on him.

[00:30:08] He also says that the reason why the whole town is prospering, not only in their crops, they're also prospering in their health. The reason why the health center looks brand new, as we commented on, is because the Manhunter is helping them all age. The whole town is benefiting from the relationship and the protection that Macon and his men is providing to the Manhunter, which is something we'd speculated about. Yeah.

[00:30:33] And, again, if we take that jump forward that we saw in Episode 1 to 2026, Macon's entire ranch has been completely destroyed. What does that mean for the people of this town if they're being protected by the Manhunter? Yeah, absolutely. And they're protecting the Manhunter. Yeah. Yeah. I love this conversation as well as he progresses through this. And, in particular, it's the coming back to Hal. He, like, goes, oh, so he's your boss now. So it moves from benefactor to boss.

[00:31:03] And then, all of a sudden, Hal's, like, going, well, it sounds more like a savior now. Are you talking about a god? And, you know, sort of by the end of the conversation, he's gone from a benefactor to being a god, this Manhunter. Yeah. And, you know, I just really enjoyed that, the way that was done, really, to go through that story.

[00:31:26] As I say, you know, also peppered with some really nice kind of humorous bits. I think at one point, Hal says, can we talk about the elephant in the room? To which Macon replies, which one? Not that one. And even, yeah, exactly. And even the one I just mentioned before, where he says, you know, well, Junior can draw from memory.

[00:31:53] Before that, he says, well, maybe you can holster up now. Yeah. It's just those turns of phrases. Really good. Absolutely. And I also like when... Do like a bit of smut in the end. Absolutely. And I also like when Sheriff Kane walks in to save the two guys because Zoe's called her in. She goes, Dad, put it away.

[00:32:15] You know, and it made me laugh because it made me think that he does this all the time when he's showing his power and the power dynamic that he's in in this room that he will bring people in disrobe and make them draw him. It just happened to get a great artist in John. Yeah. Because actually, John Stewart kind of hands it to him as he's been taken away by Sheriff Kane. And he's kind of like, there you go. Look at that. I did like that. He looks pretty happy about it. I'm wondering if occasionally he just gets stick figures.

[00:32:46] No, exactly. Exactly. And I think the other good thing here as well is Kerry Kane's intervention. I mean, you know, after the fact when she's sort of brought them back to the motel because the prison is still being effectively rebuilt from the explosion from the alien. She goes, you know, she's really mad. She's like, I'm in with you in this shit now. Yeah. You know, I'm totally this. I'm deep in it. Yeah.

[00:33:14] And, you know, she's kind of really, do you ever shut up, you know, to Hal Jordan? And she gives John Stewart a shotgun. And Hal's like, well, nothing for me. She goes, well, you're a superhero. And I like, I kind of, I really like this, but I think even more so just, you know, this notion that she's being brought into the loop.

[00:33:42] So they tell her that they're going to intervene and try and get into the compound. And she says, like, you've got one chance at this. And if you're caught, you've blown it. And it is only from her intervention that we don't see what may have happened, you know, having been captured by William's militia, effectively.

[00:34:06] So I kind of liked how Sheriff Kane was in this episode. Again, it did make me wonder whether that level of information, I know we saw her then again in 2026. And meeting up with John Stewart there in the first episode.

[00:34:30] But I was kind of wondering, well, that's a lot of information depending on her relationship with the Manhunter, let alone whether she might be. She might think this is a great thing. I mean, she has been actively managing the alien presence in the town. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So she's really interesting. I think there's still more to come here.

[00:35:00] Oh, yes. Oh, yes. We are again episode four. So we've got four more to go. So I don't think it's as simple as the reveal at the end of the episode. I don't think it's as simple as that because we pretty much called that reveal, which we're going to talk about in a second, in the first episode of the series. So I doubt it's as simple as that is the reveal. And that is all that it means.

[00:35:24] So we will see as the episodes go on what contribution Kerry has to everything that's going on. Yeah, absolutely. But I do think just even the reveal of how little time is left before the aliens are going to come into town and blow the place up. It's about 36 hours, I think, that John says, you know, they're only a day and a half away and the town will either blow up or the Manhunter will be revealed. So Kerry Kane's kind of going, oh, I better get on board here pretty quickly and find the Manhunter myself.

[00:35:52] I need to do my own investigation because if that thing fails, we need to find out how to stop these guys from blowing up the town. Yes, agreed. So I think that countdown timer is kind of spurring her on to really step up her investigation. And she's still investigating. Again, she's got good tools that they haven't used. Absolutely. I mean, because I do like the fact that she, you know, rifles through her husband's files in order to try and, like, narrow down who, you know, follow the money and who that could lead to around the benefactor.

[00:36:22] Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, really good stuff in this section. Really, really enjoyed it. And particularly going to call out that amazing boring machine that John creates with his ring. It just looks so cool and really, really detailed. I love how it builds out of the sky and out of the light. It's really cool. And a really cool moment between John and Hal when they're breaking in and Hal's asking him questions about his family.

[00:36:47] And you can see the light starts to flicker every time John gets slightly put off by any personal questions that are coming from Hal. Because, again, Hal's acting a bit weird. He's asking him personal questions. So, yeah, some cool stuff in this central point. But let's get on to our final powering point, powering point number three. We've talked a lot about the potential Manhunters in this episode. So, originally, we called this Zoe the Manhunter.

[00:37:15] But I guess we have a question mark at the end of that. Zoe the Manhunter maybe? Sort of? Kind of? We already mentioned Zoe had a trip over to have a chat to John. And a bit more than a chat, as tends to happen between the two of them. But there's an interesting kind of post-coital conversation that they have where she says to John, When I tell you what I know, it will change absolutely everything. And she seems really resistant to tell him what it is that she pretty much must have come there to tell him, right?

[00:37:45] Yeah, I guess so. I mean, even though we'd speculated about her being the Manhunter, I didn't necessarily... It could have been a number of people. And I'm still not entirely sure that with her arriving, I just thought it was odd. Yeah. I think there's an odd cut in this bit as well, which suggests then, okay, maybe this is trying to show that something happened before we actually think it did or something.

[00:38:15] And that's where they're on... John and Zoe are on the bed talking after they've had sex. And then it suddenly cuts to them at the doorway of the motel. And then it cuts back to them being on bed. And then the next part is we see her leaving. She's trying to tell him to leave. She says, you're either getting out of here alive by leaving or dead because my husband, William, is going to kill you.

[00:38:44] So... And he... And John doesn't want to leave. He says, I feel everyone's lying to me. And, you know, they have this, as you say, this conversation after the nookie-nookie. And he ultimately wants to find out the truth. We don't know whether she's said anything or not.

[00:39:06] She may have done, actually, to confirm absolutely that John knows that she is the Manhunter or who the Manhunter is. Yeah, yeah. And I think, yeah, it's just really interesting. I think as well in that conversation, John is saying, you know, what do you owe your husband here, this man? And she's like, no, you have it wrong. He was dying when I met him.

[00:39:35] And I saved his life. Yeah. And now I'm trying to save yours. And we knew she was the nurse. But William Macon has said clearly that the Manhunter saved his life. Yeah. Not his wife, Zoe, unless she's the Manhunter. So there's a few things here dropping to confirm that she's the Manhunter.

[00:40:03] I still think there could be a twist, to be honest. So I'm still not entirely sure. But I wonder if it was just as simple as that she introduced the Manhunter to Macon. It might be, yeah. And I think she certainly, that could be why, exactly. And I also think that in the story, it could lend itself to John and Hal believing she is the Manhunter.

[00:40:27] Again, it's another layer of lie that John has been talking about that kind of hangs over this town of Rushville. But also his situation as this trainee to a Green Lantern that doesn't want him. So I think it's all kind of fairly layered. And I still feel we're going to get a surprise. But on the basis of her walking out, she's then killed as though she's not the Manhunter or seemingly killed.

[00:40:54] Again, I wonder whether that cut edit type thing with almost like a flash forward and then a flashback again is some kind of indication that she's not entirely human, that that's what she can do. So it appears as though she's leaving later than she actually does so that stuff can be done or whatever. I don't know.

[00:41:17] But equally, it takes Hal and John on a journey to then go to the Atlas high-tech slaughterhouses in order to find the owner who they then think is the Manhunter. So, yeah, it all kind of progresses from there.

[00:41:45] I must say I do like the high-tech slaughterhouses here and the lasers before they dissect the cow that comes through one of those black teleporter holes that we saw in the interview episode that John Stewart falls through. And sort of puts the cuts of meat in laser form on the cow. Yeah.

[00:42:12] But yes, this cow lasers is just – it was a very interesting high-tech slaughterhouse for sure. It really was to perfectly cut a cow into every single possible cut of meat you could get in a second. But something just to mention that as well, you mentioned about the black doorway or the black portal that's created and the cow comes out of it.

[00:42:38] You know, another indication that maybe Liana is connected to – more connected to the Manhunters than to the Guardians is the last time we saw that was – it was being used by the person guiding John Stewart towards his interview with Liana. He's the one that threw out the black hole. So why would the Manhunter have access to that technology and give it to this guy Hector beforehand?

[00:43:01] How would he have access to that if he's not connected with Liana and the Guardians or just Liana is the Manhunter? Maybe that's another little sign of that. But yeah, it all comes from the investigation from Sheriff Kane because Zoe's been killed by a satellite shot from space that took out her truck when she was leaving the hotel. I just wanted to mention it because I just loved the scene. I loved how it runs out, goes pointing in the sky.

[00:43:30] He basically tells me where to go. He goes and grabs the satellite out of the sky, brings it down, throws it on the ground, smashes it in front of John. You know, it's kind of like, well, I can't save her, but I can very quickly track down who it was that killed her, basically. So they use Sheriff Kane's abilities to search up the serial number and find out what company could possibly be the ones behind this. And it turns out to be this company Atlas. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.

[00:43:59] But ultimately, again, that's another double bluff, effectively, because Hector Hammond is actually Hector Gutierrez. But there's a nice scene just before that, I think, where Hector is threatening John Stewart's family with another laser strike on the family home. But also, he then releases audio because he said he's been listening in.

[00:44:22] Just at the key moment of when John is basically saying, you know, this old man is just keeping the ring warm for me. And it's the conversation he has with Liana. Yeah. But the ring is mine and I will take it. And Hal then plays up to that. He kind of sees that Hector is probably a smokescreen or a decoy. And he confronts him with it.

[00:44:51] But he says, you know, let the laser go then, but I'll rip out your heart. I'll give you 10 seconds. And John's just freaking out. You know, what are you doing? And he's going, well, I would have given a shit before the recording. But now, well, I'm not really that concerned. And plus, he then adds, which I really love this line. I think it's a classic line. Every superhero journey should start with the death of their parents.

[00:45:20] Bang in the middle of all of this. Really nice humor. Pointed humor from Hal back to John Stewart. And there's another bit to the mystery here for me as well. It's part of the omission in the episode, in the original discussion that Hal has with Sinestro. Sinestro effectively holds it over Hal that he knows more about Manhunters than the Guardians do.

[00:45:45] And that he would be able to give them information that would be very valuable to the Guardians. But we don't hear what that information is. We see Hal confront this guy, Hammond, and say to him, you know, what color was Abansur? And when he can't answer that or tries to play it away, Hal goes, I don't think you've seen any aliens at all. And it's from that point onwards that I'm wondering whether any of that information about the Manhunters having hearts that turned to crystal,

[00:46:14] whether that was true or not, or whether he was just threatening this guy that he now knows is human. And it turns out he's right. Because I feel like there would be hardly any coming back from the fact that Hal almost put John Stewart's parents on the line here, unless he knew otherwise. So I feel like Hal was pretty convinced that since he didn't know the color of Abansur, this isn't the Manhunter. And from there on, everything else he says is just to wind up the guy and a little bit of winding up John Stewart.

[00:46:42] But I don't think he had ever any intention that this guy would actually kill John Stewart's parents. So I just wonder whether he is just playing around with us a little bit on here, because we didn't hear the information directly from Sinestro as to what makes someone a Manhunter or not. Yeah, and I mean, it's the same strategy as he played on Waylon, but kind of in reverse. Exactly.

[00:47:07] So he is using that technique, but he gets the sense that they could be dealing with a decoy or it's a trap. But again, I think I'm not entirely sure you would have the Manhunter sat behind the desk, and maybe it's that as well, because all the Slaughterhouse staff are acting very strange, almost as though they're not there.

[00:47:33] Maybe they've been told not to worry about two strange people on the premises breaking in as such. But that was quite strange, and that's not really being explained, because it's almost like they don't know or don't see that they're there. But maybe John's just going, well, I wouldn't expect the Manhunter to be sat behind the desk in an abattoir, even if it is high tech. Absolutely.

[00:47:59] So he does call the bluff and manages at least to get another part of the puzzle, at least off the table. But Hector gives up that, well, isn't it obvious who the Manhunter is? It's Will Macon. So back to Will Macon. Back to Will. They had him naked in front of him in the ranch, and maybe he's the Manhunter. But it also is the final question in the episode.

[00:48:28] We have Hal and John driving back on their way to William Macon's, and Hal kind of goes, well, hang on a second. I noticed you were pretty stressed about potentially losing your parents. You didn't seem that stressed when you literally saw Zoe, who is a person that you've had sex with a couple of times, and you seem to be careful a lot. You didn't really shed a tear or anything. When she actually died right in front of you,

[00:48:55] how did she survive unless she's the Manhunter? And then he jumps out of the car and sends John into a post in the car. So this is the final piece of is Zoe the Manhunter, because Hal seems to think that she isn't. And that's the only possible way she could have gotten out of the satellite laser blowing up her car, and that John knew that. So another massive cliffhanger at the end of the episode.

[00:49:22] Well, it's the stall, isn't it, from John, when Hal's asking him about Manhunters, and his conversation with Sinestra about manipulating and finding sources of power and working their way up that sort of power chain in local communities. And he just says, does that remind you of anyone? And effectively, you have him stalling here.

[00:49:47] And he just comes out with, well, it must be Will Macon, as Hector says. And Hal then kind of asks him to sort of out the blue to call Anton, the alien guy with the deadline before he sends in exploding aliens. And Hal's like, well, I really did forgive you back there. I thought you'd be honest. How long did you know about Zoe?

[00:50:16] And so you get this confirmation that now they've both got their suspicions on Zoe, but they've kind of hardened. Again, we don't really know fully what's happened in that motel room, but it then ultimately, as you say, lands with Zoe being candidate, prime candidate for being the Manhunter. Yeah, exactly. So another interesting ending. What a great way to have your fourth episode. For me, anyway, I love this kind of mystery show,

[00:50:46] having your fourth episode where you're still questioning everything that's going on, even though people have been 100% convinced about who the Manhunter is throughout this episode on screen. And then you get to the end of the episode, you go, oh, hang on a second. Everybody's still a candidate, aren't they? Nobody's been proven to be a Manhunter until they actually say they are a Manhunter directly on screen and maybe transform into their other form. I don't think we can say for definite who the Manhunter is. Yeah, no, I still think there's going to be surprises. Yeah, yeah.

[00:51:15] Loads more surprises to come. Just a couple of general notes on the episodes. Last week's episode had over 10 million viewers, one of the highest viewed shows in DC history, really. Back to some massive levels. It's up there with some of the Game of Thrones ratings for HBO. So the show is absolutely huge. And word of mouth is getting out there, getting people to watch some of this series because it is very different to what people would expect, especially if they've only ever had an experience of the Green Lantern movie. So, yeah.

[00:51:44] So hopefully that success will translate to even more viewers for each week's episodes. Yeah, absolutely. When we didn't mention last week, it was actually going to be our pub quiz question, John. Yeah. Do you remember when John goes into his interview and behind him, we see a cosmetics ad in the background? It's called Janus Cosmetics. I remember you were writing down going, oh, this could be a good question. What cosmetics company is? Janus Cosmetics is in the DC universe.

[00:52:12] It's a Sianus Corporation company. Sianus is the Black Mask. And he's appeared a couple of times in animated shows. And maybe there's a possibility he might appear in James Gunn's live action universe because those posters have been around in some of the other DC properties as well. So kind of cool. Yeah, good stuff. Yeah. One of my favorite lines in the episode is when Hal walks into the high-tech abattoir

[00:52:39] and hears some absolutely terrible music and goes, Jazz, this can't be good. And it isn't. It's terrible. No, that was. Songbird by Kenny G, which is not jazz and isn't very good at all. Yeah, no, that was a great line. It's just before the cow lasers take effect on the poor cattle. But yeah, no, that was a good line. And I love that after they've avoided being covered in blood because Hal's put up the shield,

[00:53:06] just John goes, that is why I am a vegan. Which is really good. Last one, Hal refers to a lantern who was a squirrel who was in the car talking away to John. That is correct. In the comic books, there is a squirrel looking creature. And he's called Chip in the comics. So he is a green lantern that looks like a squirrel. Excellent. There you go. So I love that they've just thrown in those little Easter eggs here and there. Overall, John, what's your final thoughts on this episode of Lanterns?

[00:53:34] I really enjoyed this episode of Lanterns. I'd give this five paint me like one of your French boys out of five. I just thought the mystery, I mean, even the back and forth on the Manhunter, I just like that because I think everyone's had their own thoughts, theories all the way through. And they've been changing around who the Manhunter could be in Rushville.

[00:54:01] And I think even though Hal and John have sort of come down on Zoe being the Manhunter, and I suspect it will be, I still feel there could be some kind of twist to this that it's not concluded just yet.

[00:54:18] And of course, if it is, it certainly makes life difficult for John Stewart in his dealings with the aliens that he's been told to phone and arrange a meeting ahead of being slammed into a telegraph pole. Absolutely. So that's all really a great cliffhanger here.

[00:54:42] Yeah, I think the weirdness of Will Makin's office down to sort of Sinestro's opener all really layer this with huge amounts of intrigue. As I said at the start, I think I'm just really enjoying this story. I've not really ever been in the Green Lanterns world before. And if I have been, I've wanted to come out of it quite quickly.

[00:55:09] And so I'm loving the fact that this has got me paying attention to this corner of the DC world. Whilst I've known about it, it's not something I've really wanted to look into. And I'm enjoying the characterization, the story, the mystery, the central mystery here. And ultimately, you know, why? How is this going to conclude? So yeah, really looking forward to the next episode.

[00:55:37] So for me, five, paint me like one of your French boys out of five. Fantastic. Good stuff. One thing I do kind of regret without that we didn't watch all of the Green Lantern movie again is apparently Hector Hammond is a major, well, a secondary villain in that Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds. And we didn't get past the first five minutes, as we said recently. So I didn't remember that when his name came up. I was just kind of going, oh, Hector Hammond. You know, the way comic books always have first initial and last initial are always the same for a villain.

[00:56:06] So I thought, oh, major character. But turned out to be another smokescreen in the episode. Yeah, excellent stuff. John, I think we need a drink over in the Rushville bar. So let's go for our Rushville Redneck bar quiz. Yeah, absolutely. Welcome back to the bar quiz, fellow quizzers and fellow lanterns. We are on episode four.

[00:56:28] So, of course, that means we are dishing out question four, which is what are the coordinates of the satellite that targets and blows up Zoe's truck? Very good. Very good. And you can't just point in the air. We want the actual ones. John, do you want to get the question one more time? Yes. What are the coordinates of the satellite that targets and blows up Zoe's truck?

[00:56:50] They're the ones that a very precise John Stewart gives to Hal to begin with. Excellent. That is the fourth question to race. At the end of the season, send in all the correct answers to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com. And you could be in with a chance of getting your hands on some lanterns goodies. That is the same address that you send all your feedback into each week to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com. Or pop on over to our group at facebook.com slash group slash tvpodcastindustries.

[00:57:19] Or go over to our Discord, the details of which are in the show notes for this very episode. And you can see the spoiler posts there to leave your feedback for each of the episodes. So, with that said, let's get some feedback from our fellow guardians, John. Yes. First up, we have some email feedback from Coffee and Vodka who says, Greetings, fellow Fender Bender defenders. Guess they felt they had to make up for missed current content after last week.

[00:57:44] So, we've got Zoe supposedly still alive and the prime candidate as the Manhunter. Hal and John's relationship status is officially complicated, while Sinestro and Hal seem to be in a Hannibal Lecter loop. The guardians seem almost too anxious to have the ring passed on to John. And the radio silence between them and Hal is a bit suspect.

[00:58:08] Most of the series' plots and subplots have become decidedly grey, with little to no good versus evil comic elements. Who is what and why, with only four episodes to go. Here's to hoping they're able to land this season satisfactorily. But for now, loving every moment. Four and a half Richard Picks. Boring solutions. And bantering lanterns out of five. Peace. And take care. Coffee and Vodka. Great stuff, Coffee and Vodka.

[00:58:37] Loving the old Richard Picks. For sure. I have to take credit for that. Sorry, Coffee and Vodka. I had to amend what you'd put in there, because I can't put it into our podcast at the moment. But Richard Picks is a good substitute, I think. I think so. Yes, indeed. I like boring solutions for the boring machine and bantering lanterns as well.

[00:58:58] Yeah, I mean, I would also, Coffee and Vodka kind of be in agreement that the plots, subplots have become decidedly sort of obscure, as you say. And it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I think it is in this one, as you rightly say, where you're kind of going, you know, maybe this Manhunter isn't evil. Maybe it's the aliens. You know, maybe it's the Guardians. Maybe it's all three of them.

[00:59:28] So you never know. Ultimately, it's probably Earth would come out on the wrong side of it. So it's down to Hal and John, I'm guessing. But again, is John being manipulated? So who knows? It's really interesting. My new theory, after two more minutes of speculation, is that Zoe and Liana are both the Manhunter, because we haven't seen them both in the same location at the same time.

[00:59:53] We saw Liana appear in the middle of John's hotel room, and we believe that Zoe has disappeared out of the truck before it blew up. So maybe she has that ability as a Manhunter. So there you go. New theory. New theory coming every 30 seconds here on TV Podcast Industries. Thank you, Coffee and Vodka, for your thoughts. Yeah, thanks, Coffee and Vodka. Let's pop on over to Discord. First up, Joe Herbst says, Great episode.

[01:00:23] Lots of info. I didn't expect we'd get confirmation of the or a Manhunter's identity already. I like that the show wasn't setting up one big mystery, but instead multiple smaller ones about the whole situation. Seems like this season is progressing rather quickly. But then it wouldn't surprise me if we soon have a whole episode flashback to Hal's past, like we did for John's. That seems to be one of the things that Lindelof does pretty often on his shows. Great stuff, Joe. So, yeah, I definitely suspect we're going to have a big flashback to Hal and how he got to the point where he is now.

[01:00:52] You know, we've got a good 30 years of him being the Lantern to cover, which I don't think they're going to save till season two. I think they're going to give us a good reason why he is the way he is now, what his relationship with Sinestro was like when he was in training with him. And we'll see a more fun side of Hal Jordan, I think, in that flashback episode. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, definitely. Great feedback, Joe. Thanks for that.

[01:01:19] Certainly, for sure, it feels like we've blinked and already we're halfway through the season. So here's to possibly, with those numbers that Derek mentioned in the notes, a possible second series of Lanterns could be in the making. But we'll see. But, yeah, thanks for the feedback, Joe. Absolutely. Thanks, Joe.

[01:01:44] Also on Discord, Philippe A. Gurgle says, I was a little worried when I opened HBO Max and saw Guy Gardner in the thumbnail, but fortunately it wasn't a spoiler. Another great episode. I'm really enjoying this kind of slow-paced series. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. I was laughing on IMDb when the series started. It said Guy Gardner, who's the character played by Nathan Fillion in Superman.

[01:02:13] Guy Gardner would appear in seven episodes. And then after the first episode went, it went down to six episodes. Then it went down to five. It's now down to four episodes because there's four episodes left. And we have no idea how many episodes Nathan Fillion is going to be in. But, yeah, I was absolutely convinced that we would see Guy Gardner this week in this week's episode. But still not there. That haircut hasn't arrived yet. Not yet.

[01:02:36] To be honest, I'm still – let's not say Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion, can't work. It's not actually anything about that, but it's just the look of Guy Gardner from Superman. I just wonder whether that would work here. But then having said that, they did the Will Macon and the naked painting scene. Exactly. So it could quite easily. Yes. Yes. Absolutely. And that scene definitely worked. Definitely worked.

[01:03:04] We also have some feedback on Discord from Paolo who says, I enjoyed this episode. The story progressed rather quickly and the ring's special effects are great. So Sinestro is manipulating Hal against John. The Guardians are manipulating John against Hal. If Zoe is the Manhunter, then she is a construct, according to lore. Is she manipulating John as well? What for? Just to get rid of the two of them? I found the episode quite darkly shot. I had to watch it again in the evening to see what was going on.

[01:03:29] Given Hal's experience and great reflexes shown in the last scene, his and John capture at the weenie felt rather out of character, don't you think? As always, looking forward to hearing your take on this. Four efficiently slaughtered cows out of five for me. Excellent, Paolo. I know what you're saying about their capture. It was really quick.

[01:03:48] I think it was more that the high-tech weapon, whatever that darkness being fired from it, it wasn't just simply that it made the room murky and they couldn't see. It deactivated the ring and it prevented it from working. You saw it trying to be used. So, in the end, both of them are ultimately just men sat in front of William Macken with the ring on the table. Yeah.

[01:04:17] So, it's only from wearing that ring. So, I think – so, I didn't really take it as being out of character. It's just they came across and were faced with a new tech that they weren't expecting. And that happened to deactivate their power through the ring. Yeah. And these guys are fully trained as well. They're in a really surprised situation. I do love just before that when Hal sets off the silent alarm under the pressure point, isn't it?

[01:04:47] And they both kind of go, what weight are you? Oh, that was a good movie, wasn't it? I'm trying to think which one they meant. Is that lethal weapon when we have Murtaugh stuck to his toilet because he's sitting on a pressure bomb and he can't get off the toilet without the help of Riggs, Mel Gibson's character, who pulls him off the toilet and the toilet explodes? Do you remember in the lethal weapon one? So, I wonder, was it that or was it Indiana Jones where he's weighing up the weight of the sand in a bag?

[01:05:16] I know, exactly. I'd love to know exactly which reference that is. I'd say it's lethal weapon. I have a feeling because that's the buddy cop comedy. Yes. The two of them being the buddy cops. It was a nice little touch within the weenie, for sure. It was. It was. Excellent stuff. Thanks so much, Paolo, for your feedback. And thanks, everybody, for your feedback. Keep sending it in to us each week. We'll be chatting all about it on next week's episode as well. Yeah, thank you so much, fellow Lanterns.

[01:05:44] And, of course, quizzes as well for coming back to us for this week's episode. We are going to be back next week with the fifth episode of Lanterns. So, heading into the second half of this series. Yeah. Written and directed by this writer and director for this episode as well. Looking forward to it. Very much looking forward to it. Speak to you again next time. Yeah. Thanks so much, fellow Lanterns, Guardians.

[01:06:10] Until next time, of course, keep watching, keep listening, and, of course, keep shining a light. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye.
