The Penguin Episode 6 Review

The new Gigante Maroni Alliance takes steps to get to Oz Cobb but he's not taking it lying down. Derek and John chat all about The Penguin Episode 6 "Gold Summit" in spoiler filled detail.

The Penguin Episode 6 “Gold Summit” Synopsis

Episode Written by: Nick Towne

Episode Directed By: Kevin Bray

It’s winter in Gotham and in the weeks since he set up his underground base under the city, Oswald Cobb has been growing his empire significantly. He employed most of Crown Point’s residents to reproduce and distribute the drug Bliss throughout the city to as many gangs as will take it.

Sofia Gigante and Sal Maroni are irritated by other gangs dealing with Oz. They string up three members of The Sullivan gang as a warning to the rest to stop dealing with him.

Oz makes a decision to give Bliss away for free, for one night only, to anyone who wants it. This seeds the drug into all the boroughs of Gotham. He sets a meeting with the leaders of all other gangs in the city, calling it the “Gold Summit”. At the meeting, Oz convinces the gangs to work together against the Gigantes, Maronis, and upper elite. Together they will take back Gotham.

Meanwhile back in Crown Point, Victor is confronted by Squid, an acquaintance and drug dealer, who asks Victor to let him join the operation. But given their past Victor is reluctant to bring him in. He tries to pay off Squid but when he threatens to expose Oz’s operation, Victor kills him and flees the scene.

Oz learns that the Gotham City council have been redirecting power away from Crown Point to richer neighbourhoods so he threatens a corrupt councilman to return the power back to Crown Point, so his mother, Francis, can feel more comfortable. But Francis’ condition deteriorates further, and she forces Oz to promise to kill her if she becomes severely ill.

Elsewhere, as Sofia and Sal try to uncover someone close to Oz, Sofia discovers Eve. Visiting the Gotham red light district Sofia finds Eve, initially threatening to kill her to get to Oz, but Eve gives up his location after Sofia reveals Oz was aware that she was framed for the murders of Eve’s girls by her father.

As power is restored to Crown Point, Oz’s flat buzzes into life with music and lights, Francis takes advantage of it and both her and Victor dance to the music, unaware that Sofia Gigante is looking on from the doorway with a crowbar in hand.

[00:00:24] You know how meaningful that is, Vic? To be the guy in the neighborhood who takes care of people? They're gonna tell stories about us one day, kid.

[00:00:36] You think?

[00:00:37] Know it. Victor Aguilar. Has woke up. Yeah. Our names are gonna live forever.

[00:01:26] I'm your other host, Derek. Welcome back.

[00:01:28] A little bit later this week because we had a bank holiday in Ireland after our birthday celebrations week.

[00:01:33] And so we took an extra day to recover from that.

[00:01:36] To recover, recover, recover.

[00:01:38] And watch all the rivals on Disney+.

[00:01:41] Yeah, that is true. Yes. In one big bang.

[00:01:44] It was. It was. But we do have an excellent episode of The Penguin to talk about this week again.

[00:01:49] We do, yeah.

[00:01:51] Real weaving and dealing and some genuine worry, nervousness even, as to whether two of the characters will make it out alive.

[00:02:03] Yeah, that's a really unnerving kind of scene at the end.

[00:02:08] It certainly is.

[00:02:09] We kind of sent a shiver down my spine, really.

[00:02:13] Yeah.

[00:02:13] Brilliant film.

[00:02:14] Yeah.

[00:02:15] Nice little surprise there at the end for us.

[00:02:17] Yeah, it really was.

[00:02:19] Yeah, another great episode of The Penguin that we're about to cover.

[00:04:34] Thank you.

[00:04:37] Thank you.

[00:04:40] Thank you.

[00:04:58] Thank you.

[00:05:00] Thank you.

[00:05:06] Thank you.

[00:05:12] Thank you.

[00:05:14] don't know if you guys read the batman prequel book but the location at the end of the episode

[00:05:19] reminded me of the one in there also a certain set from person of interest that i love a lot

[00:05:26] he's got a lair now he's legit and finally dr julian rush what is it with this actor and playing

[00:05:34] a character that is aligned with a female crime boss although he's more a simp here than he was

[00:05:40] in luke cage as someone who knows about the gigante name in the comics i love it's incorporated here

[00:05:48] as a way to honor her mother it goes without saying but i'm team sophia even if i suspect that

[00:05:55] she may not win in the end three and a half dead vickies surrounded by literal blood money penguins

[00:06:02] in a sewer and cold baths of torture out of five thanks so much meryl for the feedback

[00:06:10] um yeah no i am so glad you're loving this and yeah it is superb i think i should say christine

[00:06:18] milioti is really really excellent here and with clancy brown superb we get some more of that in

[00:06:25] episode six yeah great uh to see the two of these sort of uh sort of rolling off one another um

[00:06:33] i think i'm still at this moment team oz i guess of all of them just because he represents the smaller

[00:06:39] crime gang uh but nonetheless we know definitely what he becomes so um i guess it'll be interesting

[00:06:49] to see how it all plays out and you're right vt stayed around a lot longer than i thought he was

[00:06:55] going to in episode five let alone for the series um i'm surprised she didn't knock him off sooner

[00:07:02] such a good way to draw it out you like thinking is she gonna keep him around you know does she see

[00:07:09] like some objective positive about him that can override anything that he's said or done to her in

[00:07:18] the past well exactly i know she is just like gonna take him out or did she did he get through to her

[00:07:24] with this uh i couldn't save your mom maybe i can help you kind of thing you know so so maybe it was

[00:07:28] that yeah uh personally i'm not team oz or team uh team sophia i am team batman uh but i'm really

[00:07:35] interested in how they're telling this story about the villain in gotham because that makes it so much

[00:07:40] more interesting i can't wait for batman to swoop in and take out the penguin at some point in the

[00:07:44] future so i'm team victor actually team victor yeah at the moment okay he might turn into a dreadful

[00:07:51] super villain despite knowing what i know from the end of uh episode six um and the precarious

[00:07:57] situation that he may be in there um i am team victor right right to be honest yeah uh see a kid

[00:08:04] sort of make his way up in the world even though it is probably on the wrong side of the track and

[00:08:09] with the wrong mentor and yeah he's probably not in a great place but you know what i mean i'd like to

[00:08:14] see victor get out of this alive without a doubt yes i don't want to see him as a leader of a crime

[00:08:19] gang by the end of the series but overall um i'm really loving the story really loving the tale

[00:08:24] they're telling and i'm glad you're enjoying it as well meryl um yeah some great feedback there i

[00:08:28] never read the batman prequel book uh the prequel to the movie the only um the only comic i read was

[00:08:32] the one that was written by paul dano um from the perspective of the riddler uh it was really

[00:08:37] interesting comic a series of five issues that paul dano wrote uh kind of from his notes on he and

[00:08:42] how he played the riddler in in the batman movie um and he worked very hard on on creating the full

[00:08:47] tale of how the riddler would gotten himself to that situation um so it's a it's a good read but

[00:08:53] i wonder um should i give the batman prequel book a look i'm sure this that would be interesting to

[00:08:58] check out yeah i think they're always worth a check out to be honest and uh i think as meryl says you

[00:09:04] know um can just add something nicely to it exactly i think the other thing meryl is yet totally

[00:09:11] down with the penguin having his his lair now and uh in particular that it's subterranean

[00:09:19] i think that's really really good and for you it reminds you of a certain set from person of interest

[00:09:24] it also reminds me of a certain set from x files so i kind of quite like that interesting interesting

[00:09:30] good stuff i'm sure we're going to be seeing a lot more of that as we see in episode six it's quite

[00:09:35] heavily featured uh great stuff thanks meryl let's get on to our chat about episode six john yes with

[00:09:41] our spoiler filled discussion derek what are some of the episode details well the show is based on

[00:09:49] characters created by bill finger and bob kane for detective comics spinning out of matt reese the

[00:09:53] batman and with showrunner lauren lefranc this episode was written by nick town previously wrote

[00:09:57] episodes of preacher and deadwoods two really really good shows um and directed this time by kevin

[00:10:04] bray who's directed loads of great tv over the years including two episodes of succession and

[00:10:09] directed an episode of one of your favorite shows john snowfall that's fantastic yeah absolutely love

[00:10:14] snowfall came to an end uh this year that's right season six uh released the the towards the start

[00:10:22] of the year uh on disney plus over here yeah so i've just taken my time watching it but

[00:10:29] absolutely loved um snowfall it had hints and chimes of the wire or one of the seasons of the wire which

[00:10:38] i really liked yeah and to be honest and also so you can kind of see the echoes in the show like

[00:10:44] penguin you know there is that that dark underbelly of uh of a city like gulf and you saw a lot of

[00:10:49] that and it's no fall with uh the real realistic uh story of uh the progression of ropes through la

[00:10:54] yeah absolutely uh yeah yes a great director um on board to join a really good writer and a really

[00:10:59] good show also i love succession as well absolutely absolutely john do you want to tell us what they

[00:11:04] gave us with your synopsis for the penguin episode six gold summits sure it's winter in gotham and in

[00:11:13] the week since he set up his underground base under the city oswald carb has been growing his empire

[00:11:18] significantly he employed most of crown points residents to reproduce and distribute

[00:11:23] the drug bliss throughout the city to as many gangs as will take it sofia gigante and salmaroni are

[00:11:31] irritated by the gang's dealings with oz they string up three members of the sullivan gang as a warning to

[00:11:39] the rest to stop dealing with him oz makes a decision to give bliss away for free for one night only to

[00:11:46] anyone who wants it this seeds the drug into all the boroughs of gotham he sets a meeting with the

[00:11:52] leaders of the other gangs in the city calling it the gold summit the meeting oz convinces the gangs to

[00:11:59] work together against the gigantes morones and the upper city elites together they will take back

[00:12:07] gotham meanwhile back in crown point victor is confronted by squid an acquaintance and drug dealer

[00:12:14] who asks victor to let him join the operation but given their past victor is reluctant to bring him in

[00:12:21] he tries to pay off squid but when he threatens to expose oz's operation victor kills him and flees the

[00:12:28] scene also oz learns that the gotham city council have been redirecting power away from crown point to

[00:12:36] richer neighborhoods so he threatens a corrupt councilman to return the power back to crown point

[00:12:41] so his mother francis can feel more comfortable but francis's condition deteriorates further

[00:12:47] and she forces oz to promise to kill her if she becomes severely ill elsewhere as sophia and sal try

[00:12:55] to uncover someone close to oz sophia discovers eve visiting the gotham red light district sophia finds eve

[00:13:03] initially threatening to kill her to get to oz but eve gives up his location after sophia reveals oz was

[00:13:11] aware that she was framed for the murders of eve's girls by her father as power is restored to crown

[00:13:18] point oz's flat buzzes into life with music and lights francis takes advantage of it and both her

[00:13:25] and victor dance to the music unaware that sophia gigante is looking on from the doorway with a crowbar

[00:13:32] in hand oh yeah tough old ending that one definitely oh big time i mean i know you know you can argue

[00:13:39] well they're drug dealers and you know um but she's an old lady and you know victor's a young guy and

[00:13:47] sophia has intent about her uh you can really see that in her eyes but what a sort of menacing

[00:13:54] unnerving and precarious sort of ending certainly for for victor and oz's uh mother well this episode

[00:14:03] let's see what happens next episode yeah exactly but yeah she knows where they are even if she doesn't

[00:14:09] do anything about it immediately yeah she's right there in the room though yeah yeah but let us dive

[00:14:15] into the case files for episode six of the penguin let's start off with our case note number

[00:14:23] one oz's new operation yeah this is this is kind of huge um like last week we saw him discovering the

[00:14:31] underground uh base and kind of indicating to victor wouldn't this be a great place to grow at

[00:14:36] the mushrooms he only arrived with two buckets it was just himself and victor and here we are a

[00:14:40] couple of months later i think um it's now gone into winter we kind of get reference to that

[00:14:44] throughout the episode how cold everybody is in their apartments as the power is not being fed through to

[00:14:48] them we see the snow covered uh streets of gotham at times which is very cool uh some great shots

[00:14:53] there but um it's now turned into a full-blown operation from the just the two plants we now have

[00:14:59] hundreds of plants and they're now supplying bliss all across the city seems to have every single

[00:15:05] person in crown point that's living in the area working for him now or pretending they're working

[00:15:10] in construction but uh working for oz and uh delivering the the drugs around the city to every

[00:15:15] gang that will take them by the sense things well definitely um i love this i i i like the opening with

[00:15:21] the bike coming through the tunnels just showing that kind of networking underground yeah um

[00:15:27] throughout gotham i love the fact that you know it's it's all massively so much bigger than before

[00:15:35] yet you know you hear oswald talking about keeping their mouths shut and you see that later with sophia

[00:15:42] and sal getting increasingly frustrated and i mean you hear it again also from victor saying he was

[00:15:48] almost caught but he managed to lose them before he went underground you know so you have this kind

[00:15:55] of cat and mouse element but despite all of that and you know so there is a threat over this operation

[00:16:02] yeah um but the new operation that sort of develops as you say it has gone like from strength to strength

[00:16:10] as they've managed to secretly distribute the drug underground to all these other gangs i i like

[00:16:18] how it opens up with you know with oz saying who's got the power that's what the streets are asking

[00:16:24] down here we know uh you know it's it's working he's keeping it hidden um but it's involving these

[00:16:32] different gangs um and bringing them in on the distribution of bliss and the selling of it so we

[00:16:40] have you know i think we we certainly know of the sullivans and the odessas um and all this kind of

[00:16:47] these different gangs um smaller though than the moronis and the falcones yeah ever were exactly

[00:16:55] exactly they're all the the regular uh gangs that were running the drugs for the moronis and falcones

[00:17:00] but they have their own operations uh that moronis and falcones are effectively taking money from

[00:17:06] all the time to to protect them almost um so interestingly though at the start here uh oz is saying

[00:17:12] that each of the gangs can't find out that they're dealing with the other gangs either so so the

[00:17:18] distribution network is such that they are distributing the drug but they're not all saying

[00:17:21] it's the money's going back to oz um because if the gangs found out about that he's worried that

[00:17:26] they would start a turf war uh at the beginning so i think that was quite interesting i also loved in

[00:17:31] his opening monologue um the line where he says um who's got the real power sophia doesn't even like

[00:17:37] her own name and uh the moronis family is ash which is just the harshest way to describe what

[00:17:44] happened uh in the last week's episode but um just an interesting one there uh but they also are

[00:17:49] uh tunneling out the rest of the uh the the subway system the underground trolley system that oz was

[00:17:55] taking over because you hear him mention that they are going to make able to make their way to

[00:17:59] another one of the gangs because they've just freed up another tunnel and so he's recreating this

[00:18:04] structure underneath the city i just think that's a really interesting idea because we are moving to

[00:18:08] a position where as meryl even said in her feedback and as we said in our podcast last week the criminal

[00:18:13] overlords of gotham are going to be more difficult to find than walking up to the biggest mansion in

[00:18:19] town and going tell me where you got your drug money you know that's what's that's what's coming

[00:18:22] in the future so oswald building this whole network of tunnels underground and that being his his base

[00:18:29] is a really interesting development for the future of where everybody else and all the other

[00:18:33] super villains are going to be hiding out uh in different places across gotham which he really

[00:18:38] like to yeah absolutely but i mean it is the kind of beauty of the operation that like the dichotomy

[00:18:46] of it is that on the one hand he has to get the product out there market it and expose it give it that

[00:18:54] sort of um push but at the same time he's got to remain hidden yeah um and it's just really really

[00:19:02] good i love that i think we can go on to our case note number two because the flip side of this

[00:19:08] equation in terms of why he needs to stay hidden certainly because of the smaller gangs but ultimately

[00:19:16] because sofia and sal do take steps yes they do you know yeah and they are they become increasingly

[00:19:23] frustrated that they cannot pin him down i do really like that sofia just thinks well he likes the

[00:19:29] limelight he'll come out eventually yeah but sal still has is grieving has that bereavement you know

[00:19:36] he's really you see him being being really angry with his frustration because of the need to kind of wrap

[00:19:45] his hands around os's throat well exactly yeah and so via is kind of thinking it's a matter of time

[00:19:53] uh but i i love that you know this is why despite the growth of os's bliss operation his further

[00:20:05] ambition is being thwarted by the two big names in the criminal world which is the gigantes and the

[00:20:13] moronis that have merged with him being their central focus as their enemy yeah so i really like that

[00:20:23] it's just the way we see sofia and sal maroney discussing it over dinner and very informally in the

[00:20:31] kitchen at the the former falcone mansion and and i just like the the fact that they just say

[00:20:38] well let's just get the runners um you know the corner boys um and so they do and string up three of

[00:20:47] them with their little pinky um cut off and as a warning not to buy and sell bliss yeah not to work

[00:20:58] with that at all yeah i love that sal maroney is just calling him a weed you know that this is

[00:21:02] there that city of gotham is their garden he's destroying it basically and can't be uh can't be

[00:21:09] taken out can't be easily found so um they have to go for a different tactic and attack some members

[00:21:15] of the gang that they know are dealing with us another interesting part of the discussion that

[00:21:19] was there is that almost naively we hear sofia going you know yeah okay oz has taken over some

[00:21:26] of the small businesses and dealt with some of the gangs but he can't get out the triads because the

[00:21:30] triads made a deal with me not him which calls back to the episode uh where the deal was made and

[00:21:36] sofia was there saying they're not here to talk to my driver they're here to talk to sofia

[00:21:40] falcone back then you know um and sal maroney's kind of schooling her going they didn't make a deal

[00:21:46] with you they made a deal with the person who's selling bliss and that's now oz so if you're not

[00:21:52] selling it and they have the money to buy it and they need to distribute drugs you're out of the

[00:21:56] equation yeah and well and that's why then she ratchets it up to say you know we need to make it

[00:22:04] crystal clear that playing with oz comes at a cost and so takes down the the street runners and the

[00:22:11] corner boys yeah i do like that we have um oz saying a bit later uh sort of derogatory calling

[00:22:19] them mork and mindy and they're beginning to flex their muscles you know but i that his little his

[00:22:27] his little pet name for the the tag team is mork and mindy uh which i thought was quite nice a nice

[00:22:33] little reference as well but yeah here um we have them effectively taking steps the other thing i

[00:22:41] liked about this initial bit as well was with them eating it almost felt like that kind of you know the

[00:22:47] breaking bread yeah uh moment where it's you know so far they've they've made the deal there's the

[00:22:54] handshake but given these two families however much she's now a gigante she was a falcone and they were

[00:23:03] at loggerheads yeah and it feels like it's just another moment of trust building between them by

[00:23:09] having this meal and definitely require given that when sophia comes into the room she kind of says to

[00:23:14] uh to sal you know a person under house arrest shouldn't be leaving their room you know so she had him

[00:23:18] give up his whole family effectively the moroni family join up with a gigante family and then was

[00:23:24] locking him in a room in the falcone mansion you know it's one step away from imprisonment really so

[00:23:29] um so the fact that they do sit down break bread discuss you know and as you say everything is

[00:23:34] reminding sal moroni of his family at the moment he's breaking he's doing a recipe that his wife

[00:23:39] taught him and he's talking about the extra ingredient that his son taj would have added to

[00:23:43] it to make it even better and then he just says this i was learning all of these so i could pass it on

[00:23:49] as my legacy to my children and then in that moment is the moment when he's kind of eating the food and

[00:23:55] reminding himself almost that he doesn't have that legacy anymore he no longer has a wife and

[00:23:59] his son's dead as well so he no longer has any of that and it's all oz's fault that's just the first

[00:24:04] step they take though killing the three members of the sullivan gang the next step is actually going

[00:24:08] to oz's place to try and find something that connects oz and somebody that oz might love so they

[00:24:14] can leverage them in the way that oz leveraged the moroni family well yeah and it comes in part because

[00:24:21] their whole strategy to pressure sort of the lower level uh the corner boys ends off with oz

[00:24:30] taking a countermeasure because he can see the threat and you know by going after the low runners

[00:24:36] doesn't put any of the leaders of the gangs in harm's way yeah they're too scared to go after

[00:24:43] this merged crime family now and and it means that it cuts off his supply effectively or it limits it

[00:24:53] and so he he decides to give bliss away to counter sophia and sal's attempt to strangle that distribution

[00:25:02] and which then means they have to counter again and so it comes down to and i guess it's not even so

[00:25:10] much a counter it's something i think sal you know moroni absolutely wants you can sense the need here

[00:25:18] for him to go looking uh into oz's life to find a weakness that they can use basically someone that he

[00:25:27] cares about and i like both of these two breaking and entering into oz's apartment and going through

[00:25:35] um you know his stuff i mean on the one hand you have a nice little touch back to the fake fire

[00:25:42] coming on from sophia where the music goes on at the same time that's the tacky part you see the

[00:25:48] um the anger you know you see how upset sal moroni is you know he said he takes everything from me and

[00:25:56] he has nothing in that he has nothing to care about i can't take it back i can't take back

[00:26:04] uh from him yeah and i i just really enjoyed this um i think sophia gives him one of the golf clubs

[00:26:12] and says you know practice your swing and he goes about smashing up uh oz's apartment as she

[00:26:19] calmly goes into the bedroom and ultimately does found a chink in the armor yeah but she does say that

[00:26:25] this is oz's superpower he doesn't care about anybody so you can't get to him that way you

[00:26:29] know that's that's moroni is saying he wants absolute revenge on uh on oz and and straight

[00:26:36] away you know if he'd found anything any connector anything connected to oz anybody that oz loved

[00:26:41] they would be dead that is his modus operandi and he's telling you right there and then that that

[00:26:46] is something now that he can't do that what's next you know but it is sophia that finds eve finds the

[00:26:52] photograph of her a little note saying um that last song was for you with some love hearts on it

[00:26:57] she's got a drawer in oz's apartment so she knows this is the person she needs to find and goes off to

[00:27:02] uh the red light district to try and find eve i really like this um just because the protection

[00:27:08] that's there for eve on the streets from everybody around from all the people that work in this area

[00:27:13] uh really reminded me of sin city and the the ladies town in sin city uh where this is an area

[00:27:20] that you can go into and you can get your kicks you can pay for whatever you want you're in the

[00:27:25] red light district but all of them in there are watching you from the moment you arrive until the

[00:27:29] moment you leave to make sure you don't hurt anybody in town and even when roxy comes up and

[00:27:33] talks to sophia and goes oh maybe i can help you out if you pay me enough uh that was another little

[00:27:38] ruse for me so get a little of extra a little bit of extra cash off of sophia because eve just said

[00:27:43] to roxy it's time to time to bring her up uh and they just got a little extra cash for for us

[00:27:49] which i really liked i just thought that was a nice little touch um as sophia goes up for

[00:27:52] probably my favorite scene from the episode sophia confronting eve um i thought this was just so

[00:27:59] wonderfully acted and you're seeing two people who've gone through their lives completely mistreated

[00:28:06] sidelined underestimated and you know in eve's case expected to be the arm candy for the new crime boss

[00:28:13] of gotham that was oz and in sophia's case expected to be the one that takes the fall for her father's

[00:28:18] sins when she accused him of it and her entire family turning on her so um so seeing the two of

[00:28:23] these really strong women having survived all of those ordeals being put toe to toe against each

[00:28:30] other and getting out the other side of it as well is really interesting absolutely um i think you're

[00:28:35] right this was um superbly tense as well yeah and revelatory like you got the sense that eve is loyal

[00:28:46] to a t with oz but the revelation that sophia tells her that he knew that sophia wasn't the hangman

[00:28:55] because i love how it comes to play back to the film again that it was eve's girls yeah that were

[00:29:01] the women being murdered you know by carmine falcone yeah but she absolutely thinks it's sophia

[00:29:11] on the basis of everything that's been reported but also being close to um oz cob and so i love that

[00:29:18] the revelation has its impact to the point where she's still having to battle to think about whether

[00:29:26] she does or she doesn't but sophia is literally about to go out the door and eve tells sophia not

[00:29:35] exactly where oz is but it you know he's next to the zoo at crown point yeah and that's what

[00:29:43] sophia gets in return because if she'd killed eve before sophia wasn't going to get anything that's

[00:29:52] right and even if she'd gone in guns blazing she wouldn't have gotten anything because she would

[00:29:57] never had the opportunity to tell her hangman side of the story and that is what i thought was

[00:30:04] so good and what i do specifically like about it is that it does show a bit of restraint from sophia

[00:30:10] some restraint that oz didn't have back in episode one you know this is sophia's still while she may

[00:30:15] be a gigante and may be coming up as a new gang leader in the city she's still playing by some of

[00:30:20] those old rules and she still wants some information out of this she could have gone in guns blazing

[00:30:24] because in her mind the justification for killing eve is not just because she's oz's girlfriend or has a

[00:30:30] connection with oz or that oz loves her other justification for it is

[00:30:34] she was the alibi for oz's murder of her brother um she knows eve covered for oz back then um so she

[00:30:43] could have killed eve purely because of that slight and because she provided the cover for oz that got him

[00:30:48] away with it but she doesn't she allows her to talk she sits with her she has a moment and then she

[00:30:55] reveals to her that oz never told you that who the real hangman was and that then gets eve back on her

[00:31:01] side and she comes out with the information that she needs yeah no absolutely yeah i mean

[00:31:05] that's the thing the tension because there's there's proper kind of um punch counterpoint you know this

[00:31:14] like a fencing match a bit i mean i like the fact that um you know eve's got the now as you say to get

[00:31:21] the money to get uh sophia up there and you can sense that sophia would have some kind of respect for that

[00:31:27] but it's also the you know eve challenges sophia and maybe it's what stays her hand you know as she

[00:31:34] said i've not had the privilege of growing up to be able to think that everything is black and white

[00:31:40] i've had to think of graze that's why in effect i said i would be his um alibi even though he didn't

[00:31:49] tell me why when i agreed to it yeah it's also because it's dealing with oz it's dealing with you

[00:31:56] it's dealing with whoever else i like that she kind of throws something that you know oz is not

[00:32:02] that complicated and he's not just one thing yes you seem to think again to this black and white

[00:32:09] dichotomy um you know i he's a liar a narcissist a killer you know that he's all of these things he's

[00:32:17] not just one or the other and i just like how this kind of as i say just flows through and i mean in a

[00:32:25] sense you do get that sense that eve is um when sophia says you know well you were his alibi for

[00:32:33] alberto you knew that alberto had been killed and she kind of retorts but well are you or are you not

[00:32:43] the hangman now what are you going to do yeah yeah you're going to shoot me here like the hangman

[00:32:50] would do like that murderer or uh are you not it's really great great stuff absolutely absolutely

[00:32:59] excellent moments in here and that's what leads sophia to oz's apartment at the end of the episode

[00:33:05] and that tip off that she gets from eve um i think we can move away uh from sophia for a minute

[00:33:11] yes i think so and on to our case note number three the gold summit it's kind of a small point but it's

[00:33:19] a big moment it even gives the episode its title it's a huge moment it's a small point though because

[00:33:25] the the real center of it is that oz gathers together the heads of every single crime gang other than

[00:33:31] uh the gigantes and moronis together for a discussion um and oz is at the center of it he says to them all

[00:33:37] the gigantes and the falconis have been and the moronis have all just been looking for your territory

[00:33:42] looking for your money they wrap you up they take your territory and it becomes theirs but the most

[00:33:47] wanted on all of their list is me and if we all join together if all of us become a new alliance we can

[00:33:54] absolutely take on uh them if you work with the ones that hate each other the most it'll become a

[00:34:00] complete surprise to the gigantes and the moronis and we will be able to survive them yeah absolutely

[00:34:06] and like this is small but mighty yes it's not particularly long and but it's a scene that brings

[00:34:14] all the other crime gangs together yeah to be pitched a new way forward and that doesn't involve

[00:34:27] the crime two crime families but more importantly than that the higher elites in gotham

[00:34:36] running the show um because we've also seen oz taking uh and pliers to the nose of a councilman

[00:34:47] in order to get the power back on in crown point and specifically for his his and his mother's

[00:34:54] apartment that was a really brutal scene i don't know why a pair of pliers um just looks even more

[00:35:01] brutal than someone putting a gun to someone or cutting someone right the way they're used is so

[00:35:05] vicious uh i suppose it's even the aftermath of that i really like how colin farrell plays it where he

[00:35:11] says it's only a little bit of blood you'll be fine and then like the guy gets into the car to take

[00:35:16] off and then he's kind of faffing around about with the reversing out of the point you've got more

[00:35:21] room than you think you know he's kind of it's almost like being helpful yeah like five seconds

[00:35:25] earlier he had the pliers ready to pull off his nose effectively yeah so i can't really like that but i

[00:35:31] mean you know it's to the point that it's not just the moronis and the gigantes slash falcones

[00:35:38] it's also the city elite the the the councilmen the judges that also get a benefit from running

[00:35:48] the city like we we heard that all the power has been diverted to the richer neighborhoods not to the

[00:35:56] poor neighborhoods and so this gold summit does involve crime but it it starts to aim and take aim at

[00:36:08] the city's foundations because oscob is very good at bribing and manipulating the city whether it's in

[00:36:18] the mayor's office the courts or the gcpd so i really liked this um pitch yeah and i liked his

[00:36:28] challenge to like i think it's the head of the sullivan gang you know he's kind of saying yeah but

[00:36:34] it was my guys that were strung up as a as a message and os just goes back to him well why

[00:36:41] why aren't you after the moronis and the gigantes they did it yeah why are you coming for me

[00:36:47] um because they keep you in this low position through fear they ignore you i'm offering that

[00:36:56] we'll have each other's backs you know i like the fact that the triad is still sort of wavering i

[00:37:02] actually did think that his second in command his underboss was going to shoot him because he was

[00:37:08] going to be taking too long yeah thought he was going to like do this oh the can yeah um which he

[00:37:14] doesn't but i love the whole can that's of the can going as the like the the the non-verbal agreement

[00:37:22] i thought that was really really good because you know he strolls on up and just starts throwing out

[00:37:27] cans of beer after which one of the gang leaders says what's this about you know what you're doing

[00:37:33] um i think as well there's a bit of the narcissist element that eve talks about here even though it

[00:37:40] might be actually covering some truthful elements here where you know oswald is confessing to killing

[00:37:48] alberto yep taking the bliss for his own ends yeah effectively because that's where the distrust from

[00:37:55] the triad leader is still coming you know from um but he's basically saying you know he hustled

[00:38:01] and he's he's making the pitch of i'm the same as you yeah i'm a hustler yes i did all these things

[00:38:07] but if we come together right here right now um you know we if we work with those we hate rather than

[00:38:14] those who don't know our names and we can change gotham and this city for us effectively um he does

[00:38:24] also take credit for the murder of the moronis as well for setting them on fire and says this in front

[00:38:28] of all the gang leaders you know so he's telling them how brutal he is and he's telling them the the

[00:38:33] things that he's done um but that is the that is the kind of big thing that ties oswald cobblepot in

[00:38:40] with all of this is they will know your name it's a it's it's a very um godfather thing a very mafia

[00:38:46] thing um what he's saying here but it's he's standing in front of a group of people and telling them you

[00:38:51] know the sullivans specifically he's telling them you know they were the first uh gang in gotham

[00:38:55] even the comic books the sullivans were that were before all the other gangs in gotham and but they

[00:38:59] never ran anything they ran for the other crime bosses and he's saying to them you know when the

[00:39:04] sullivans came here when the irish came here they built the massive bridge you see behind you the

[00:39:08] massive bridge that would that people wouldn't be able to get to the rich part of the city without

[00:39:11] that bridge and whose name is on it it's not the sullivan bridge you know it is the rich people

[00:39:16] that are naming the bridges in the city and your names are being forgotten so um he had said that

[00:39:22] earlier on with um with victor he'd said you know our names will live in infamy people will tell

[00:39:26] stories about oswald cobb and victor aguilar um our names will live on forever and here he is telling

[00:39:33] the heads of the gangs of gotham that they their names will live on in infamy and using the same

[00:39:39] method that eve uses with her girls which is again something interesting you know she said to sophia um

[00:39:45] my girls have my back i have theirs i had the same with oz and oz is now telling all the rest of the

[00:39:51] gangs um if we all have each other's backs we'll take over the city here so it is it's it's

[00:39:56] it's all those different strategies it's also the i come from humble low beginnings like you

[00:40:02] we are cut from the same cloth yeah it even runs in we have him and victor earlier on talking about

[00:40:09] the gang leader that he really looked up to yeah and you know because he's bringing everyone from

[00:40:14] crown point into work they're making money they're working yeah and and again it's to that point that he

[00:40:22] is making to you know the other leaders of the gangs here like the triads the low boys the odessas the

[00:40:30] sullivans and it's actually a little bit german mal like really you know um lowly beginnings and

[00:40:40] making big revolutionary changes or whatever any kind of revolution you know in that sense

[00:40:46] and so really really good and really enjoyed this but i think on to our case note number four because

[00:40:55] yes everyone's doing much better in crown point certainly now that um alice has used the plier

[00:41:03] technique uh to to get the uh the the power back on but more so as well people have got money

[00:41:10] but not necessarily everyone i love how this thing comes back to squids uh who we saw in the last

[00:41:17] episode watching victor and francis cobb going into uh the building where they're staying and and this

[00:41:26] comes back over the course of this episode you know i think victor tries to tell him he's got problems

[00:41:31] when he used to know it could be an issue for the operation you know he's worried that this is going to

[00:41:37] somehow upset the apple cart yeah and in the end the way victor tries to handle it by kind of fobbing

[00:41:48] him off and paying him off with and some of his wage squid is not happy about he wants to be in on

[00:41:57] the money because he's seeing victor with a swag in his stride and and new runners and

[00:42:07] and money um exactly and he wants a part of that and lots of it you know like again um squid would

[00:42:14] have knowing knowing him when he lost his family he was working for squid when he was trying to steal

[00:42:19] the hubcaps off uh off us's car so squid knows where victor comes from and knows that if he suddenly

[00:42:24] has this influx of money there's something behind it but what i do really like about squid is that he

[00:42:28] obviously grew up in the streets of gotham because he had that information about uh victor and

[00:42:33] oswald's mom for what we know now is months because uh he saw them when they arrived on the

[00:42:38] first day yeah and held on to that piece of information squirreled it away put in the back

[00:42:42] of his mind and said oh whenever that becomes important for me to use in the future i will

[00:42:47] use it at the best time possible and he thought this moment with victor uh where victor's pushing

[00:42:51] him away telling him he's going to pay him some money now uh maybe there'll be a job down the line

[00:42:55] but he'll get him some more money the next week uh when victor's trying to placate him he thinks

[00:42:59] that's the right time to use that information and say well maybe i want to cut at this maybe i'll be

[00:43:04] able to sell out ours and uh to the other people that are looking for him basically so yeah no

[00:43:09] absolutely and and i i think as well the other really uh great part about this kind of sequence

[00:43:16] with um victor and uh squid is he like in the aftermath of squid being shot in the neck it looks

[00:43:25] pretty gruesome and gory you have victor telling oz sort of by not really saying that he's gotten rid

[00:43:34] of him that he's killed him um and you have oz coming back as that in a sense you know weird father

[00:43:42] figure where he's he's tries to calm him down you know he's saying you know you've done the right

[00:43:47] thing you protected those you cared about uh you're strong and i love the moment that he whispers to

[00:43:55] it gets easier i just think that's a like it's weird that i'm about to say but i just feel that's

[00:44:02] really important for this character yes and and to be honest i think it's what heightens sort of the

[00:44:08] ending of this episode for me because you feel as though it's coming together here for victor even

[00:44:14] yes he's killed squid and it's not a nice thing but in that world he is fighting for his life

[00:44:23] and he's taken this path because it's a path where he can see that he can create a better life for

[00:44:29] himself you know and squid endangered that and so he's fought he's shot him you know and then you have

[00:44:40] him being kind of just centered again by oz you know did you get away clean and get get those clothes

[00:44:50] off yeah make the changes get get um them disposed of those those clothes and get a good night's sleep

[00:44:57] and we're ready for you tomorrow he is and you're staying at home yeah minds elsewhere so you're not

[00:45:02] coming to the gang meets with me yeah you go home look after my mother and but i just thought that

[00:45:08] whole scene was great and i just think cherry on top for me it was just the way you have oz cob leaning

[00:45:16] in giving him that reassuring hug but just saying in a whisper it gets easier yeah yeah because he's

[00:45:23] been there well exactly you know the the two things about victor really are that the um last positive

[00:45:30] influence he had in his life got on a bus and left the city and he let her go um that's one of the

[00:45:36] most important things about what's happening with victor here and the second thing that i do want to

[00:45:41] know about though is oz says to him did you get away clean did he get away clean because it looked

[00:45:46] like he fleed the scene to me um he shot him and uh and ran away from the scene now we know the gcpd

[00:45:51] aren't really that great in this version of gotham they're not people that hunt down killers um they

[00:45:56] usually just uh try and get a couple more kickbacks um but also potentially not in crown point yeah but

[00:46:03] leaving the body of squid on the street um you know where where it was they met and they met in a bit

[00:46:09] of a weird location um a kind of a hidden location um but did victor get away clean will somebody um

[00:46:15] find and connect the death of squid with uh with victor will he be found out for his first murder or

[00:46:21] has he got way bigger things on his mind yeah other than that body being found absolutely i mean and i

[00:46:27] think interestingly though it just foreshadows what what's about to come which is oz actually hasn't

[00:46:33] gotten away clean either because you have mama giganti stalking around crown point absolutely

[00:46:42] and i think with that onto our case note number five which is dealing with that but it's also

[00:46:49] francis cobb's declining health we've got some really tough scenes here between oz and uh his mother

[00:46:58] francis cobb who's just played so well here by deirdre o'connell and like there's a few things here

[00:47:07] where i'm just like um it's such fantastic sort of observation in the character yeah she just gives an

[00:47:16] absolutely wonderful performance here really really love those moments the power's just gone out the

[00:47:21] music's gone off and she starts to talk about you know well if i'm gonna be locked up here i'm gonna be

[00:47:26] able to listen to my music why aren't you paying the bills and starts to get a little bit confused

[00:47:29] about why oz is there uh where's her husband is he downtown paying the bills is one of her sons

[00:47:35] downtown paying the bills and oz completely flips on her saying you know they're gone i'm the only one

[00:47:40] here for you um victor kind of interrupts and tries to play along with this lie or play along with this

[00:47:48] um version of life that's going on in francis's head but interestingly that's where

[00:47:54] oz turns on victor for a second we see a bit of anger from oz um saying what are you doing you're

[00:47:59] making it worse and don't you ever speak of my family again don't you ever speak of my brothers

[00:48:03] don't don't mention their names again which i don't know we don't know how this series is going to end

[00:48:08] and certainly at the end of this episode we don't know what is going to happen to victor or francis but

[00:48:12] just that moment where oz turns on victor for the for the first time in a couple of episodes let's say

[00:48:18] um uh with a with a lot of frustration i do wonder if uh if victor's going to end at the hands of

[00:48:25] oswald cobb um towards the end of the series is he going to say something or do something

[00:48:29] uh that will push him over the edge uh remember we were talking earlier on the season that he'd gone

[00:48:33] through um you know three episodes in a row having a gun pointed at him by oz so uh will that be the

[00:48:39] way that uh that victor goes towards the end of the series well let's say it could all just be a big

[00:48:44] lie from oz as well in order to get himself back uh on it on the running uh in the same way as with

[00:48:52] the gold summit i mean i think it is to that point um you know you have so fear and cells take saying he

[00:48:59] doesn't care about anything or anyone and clearly we see him caring about his mother yeah um and

[00:49:08] potentially victor the question is are they genuine um is it something that he's hiding or covering up

[00:49:17] with his mother or is it just some some kind of using of of victor uh that we don't know about um

[00:49:25] so like we don't know i mean we're assuming that him giving victor responsibility to look after his

[00:49:35] mother which you think he clearly does care about from all of this um means that he cares about victor

[00:49:42] and the same with those moments so we don't know it could all just be a ruse uh for sure but again

[00:49:47] the other side of this is where we see her in a cold bath don't know for how long and and oz finds her

[00:49:56] yeah and in the end i mean i it's quite a touching scene i think um but it ends off with her saying

[00:50:03] you know if i get any worse then you need to kill me i don't want to be one of these broads who you

[00:50:13] know doesn't know where they are doesn't know what they're doing yeah if i ever get like that you

[00:50:18] know promise me that you'll kill me um and he's like saying no i can't i won't it's not natural to do

[00:50:26] yeah but in the end sort of um agrees to her wishes because she says well if you really love

[00:50:33] me you would do that and then you have this quite tender moment of him applying her makeup to make

[00:50:39] her look really pretty so like some of this is really really tough um i think and really sort of

[00:50:46] quite deep and the observations the character observations of this is are i think are really

[00:50:53] quite good absolutely yeah to be honest yeah it's it's so tough to watch just you know again

[00:50:58] francis cobb saying you know um i don't want to have just that enough left of my mind to know how

[00:51:05] how everything has fallen apart i want you to be the one to kill me it's your responsibility you're my

[00:51:10] son um it's really tough you know it's a really really tough watch but excellently performed um by uh

[00:51:18] george o'connell um really loved it and again that moment where she's all dressed up and ready to go

[00:51:24] to the ball uh where where oswald makes her feel good about herself again you know as she gets all

[00:51:29] dolled up um by him i think it's very cool yeah i think it's like when the power comes back on you

[00:51:35] know and the lights and music all kind of power back up yeah um and initially she's all kind of

[00:51:41] disorientated and shocked but you know then kind of wants the music and the light on and

[00:51:48] i like the way how she starts to dance with victor i mean victor is the one that looks awkward and

[00:51:54] given his age he seems to be the stiffest of them whether it's just because he's doing it with an old

[00:51:59] lady but he gets into it and i think this is the point that's really good then just coming back to

[00:52:05] sophia arriving at oz's apartment in all the shenanigans and goings on of the power coming back

[00:52:13] on and the record player blurring out the lights flickering on and so on fans whirring back into

[00:52:21] action you do hear a noise some kind of background noise and you do see victor sort of looking to see

[00:52:27] where that's come from and that is sophia breaking into the apartment in order to get in without a

[00:52:35] shadow of a doubt and that's why then it for me it just felt really chilling seeing these there's

[00:52:41] really quite cute moment between victor and francis and some joy after what you'd seen but that it could

[00:52:51] potentially be ripped away because you see sophia there with crowbar in hand sort of looking on at

[00:53:00] um francis cobb and victor yeah yeah you're absolutely right it's a really shocking way to

[00:53:06] end the episode i just thought it was going to pan out and then uh go on to something else that

[00:53:11] oz was doing you know uh didn't expect it to have uh sophia at the end of the hallway with the crowbar

[00:53:16] in hand and that's kind of it um for the end of the episode um that's the the cliffhanger that we

[00:53:21] have to wait a week uh to watch the next episode absolutely yeah any notes uh for this episode

[00:53:27] um just the one thing we didn't talk about was dr julian rush uh in the episode because he makes

[00:53:31] another uh insanely good appearance in a in a moment with sophia uh as we see him uh strapped to a

[00:53:39] chair um pants down uh after getting a right old whipping it sounds like from uh from sophia um

[00:53:46] she even says to me now are you okay are you hurt and he goes well if i am hurt i deserved it for

[00:53:51] what i did to you you know so he's still he's still on his knees uh still begging for forgiveness

[00:53:56] for sophia who doesn't really seem to care uh that much at this stage no he seems to have

[00:54:01] a bigger be in his bonnet uh than she does to be honest yeah yeah um but there's just an

[00:54:07] interesting line that he says uh to her where he asks um when you find oz cob um make sure you use

[00:54:15] my talents uh and contact me and use my talents yeah feel free to use my expertise he says yeah so

[00:54:21] what's that what expertise does he have um well we know he's a psychologist so i'm a psychiatrist i guess

[00:54:26] i guess he knows safe words i'd say he does i say he does yeah uh he might know how to tie people up

[00:54:32] i mean yeah i mean and at least intuitively it's that he's a psychologist he can use him to sort of

[00:54:40] maybe interrogate him or you know he's got access to uh various chemicals or or whatever that may

[00:54:47] prove useful maybe yeah yeah that could be an interesting idea you know could be yes you know

[00:54:53] psychotropic gas i guess that would show images of uh their past and you know fear

[00:55:03] hanging on that same kind of thing maybe it's on similar kind of plane as that maybe yeah yeah but

[00:55:11] just a very interesting scene with them so i do want to see more of uh more of uh the rossi uh

[00:55:17] later on the season we've only seen little bits of them uh throughout the season so i'm hoping we're

[00:55:21] more of them later on the season yeah no the only other note i have is probably an observation and

[00:55:26] you mentioned it about when oz says to himself and victor he says you know our names will go down

[00:55:35] in history across gotham you know as he does say victor aguilar and oz cob and it's just the expression

[00:55:45] he has after he says oz cob he realizes that it's not got the ring to it right interesting it just felt

[00:55:53] that was the kind of expression right that he was like oh maybe that doesn't sound quite as good as

[00:55:59] you know it should do interesting interesting so we think uh like he actually calls himself oswald

[00:56:05] cob here as well so uh do you think he might be adding on the cobble i wonder if the name might get

[00:56:12] longer but you never know i mean it could just yeah it might be nothing or it could be something

[00:56:17] he might just add back in the name uh maybe for all the comic books that'll be written about his uh

[00:56:21] adventures in gotham anyway overall john how would you race this episode of the penguin another corker

[00:56:28] for me i'd give this uh five squid games out of five um yeah i just really really enjoyed seeing

[00:56:35] this sort of time jump i love all the relationships here and in particular i think sort of seeing the

[00:56:42] this new on screen pairing however brief it might be of eve and sophia it was really really good yeah

[00:56:49] um but i mean that this cast is phenomenal i mean from victor francis and oz to um you know oz's kind

[00:56:59] of pitch to the other gangs to sophia and sal everything is really really firing on all cylinders

[00:57:08] and i'm just getting pulled into this it's not one thing that i can say oh i love the action here i love

[00:57:14] this scene here i'm just liking the whole story all of it's working for me multiple levels you know in

[00:57:22] the moment uh being worried about characters that shouldn't be being you know um hoping that they

[00:57:32] survive you know real sort of getting buy-in here so uh absolutely love what they're doing here in the

[00:57:39] penguins series and i would give this five squid games out of five fantastic yeah love it really

[00:57:47] really enjoying the show um let's go on to the iceberg lounge for our next quiz question john yes uh fellow

[00:57:55] quizzers fellow gothamites it is question six of our iceberg lounge quiz and here we go what is the dish

[00:58:04] that salmaroni cooks for sophia giganti and for an extra point what did salmaroni's son add to it

[00:58:14] to make it better very good i think i have a feeling you might need the subtitles on for this

[00:58:21] one uh i know we did to get the spelling um john do you want to give that question one more time yes

[00:58:25] what is the dish that salmaroni cooks for sophia giganti and what did his son tarj add to it to make

[00:58:35] it better fantastic that's question six of eight uh gather together all the correct answers and email

[00:58:41] us at the end of the season to feedback at tv podcast industries dot com with your correct

[00:58:46] answers and you could be in with a chance of getting your hands on some penguin goodies that's also where

[00:58:51] you email us with your feedback for the show at that address or pop on over to our facebook group at

[00:58:56] facebook.com slash groups slash tv podcast industries where you can share your thoughts on each of the

[00:59:01] episodes as they come out yes but shall we move on to our criminal comms feedback section for episode

[00:59:08] six first up we have an email from coffee and vodka who says greetings fellow blissfully united defenders

[00:59:16] so oz might be paying blood for blood with his past sins but that kind of doesn't bother me with two

[00:59:24] teams and three complicated but decidedly bad guys i honestly don't have a horse in this race sal's

[00:59:31] begrudging recognition of oswald's power is as entertaining to see as sophia's dogged detecting

[00:59:38] and watching their game of dominoes from warnings to free demand creating drugs to an inter-gang alliance

[00:59:45] was solidly and organically interesting os's solution to not being a wimp and bringing power to the

[00:59:53] masses but mostly his mother was about as direct as you'd expect but still creative in his choice of

[01:00:00] tools for the job but it all comes down to a happy dance to a nice song in an apartment with a revenge

[01:00:08] hungry sophia waiting in the wings we need next week now five squibbled squids leather men embraces

[01:00:17] and power moves out of five peace and take care coffee and vodka p.s julian's rather strong

[01:00:25] scarecrow hint did not go unnoticed but is something for a season two if we get one oh very good coffee and vodka

[01:00:33] so that could be why that could be the words of uh dr julian uh rush that he could be scarecrow maybe

[01:00:39] scarecrow in the batman 2 movie we don't know much about batman 2 at all uh yeah so um maybe the reason

[01:00:46] why we see julian on his own quite a lot is it might have been a light-minute addition to the show

[01:00:49] uh so we see the rossi kind of being added in around the edges yeah when it gets to batman 2 he

[01:00:55] can come to the forefront as a new scarecrow that'd be interesting yeah i think so certainly there's a

[01:01:01] good hint there as coffee and vodka has um has noticed as well yeah and i mean absolutely completely

[01:01:09] with you i think that ending absolutely ties this episode in a fantastic uh little bow uh and with

[01:01:20] the cherry on top it just really is uh and screams uh next week please absolutely absolutely so yeah

[01:01:29] thanks very much coffee and vodka thanks coffee vodka we also got an email in from meryl smith on

[01:01:33] this episode who says welcome fellow families of team penguin and team giganti moroni another good

[01:01:38] episode of the tank something of note that stuck out to me was the mention of the low boys which i

[01:01:43] remembered from gotham although i didn't know they were from the comics i thought it was an original

[01:01:46] group created for that show a loaf when some obscure comic stuff can still surprise me also it looks like

[01:01:52] sophia and julian finally had a therapy session and then she immediately goes and talks with her new

[01:01:57] father figure sal moroni probably an upgrade all things concerned it's seven degrees of messed up in

[01:02:02] almost every scene that she's in i love every second that krista milioti is on screen my favorite

[01:02:08] scene is probably the one with sophia and eve which managed to go from a shark circling her prey to two

[01:02:12] people connecting to their place in the world of gotham and how they relate now i really want to see

[01:02:17] her interaction with selena kyle loved all the oz and francis stuff perfect shakespearean tragedy and i

[01:02:22] think he might end up being the one to kill her euthanization style if sophia doesn't beat him to the

[01:02:28] punch that is victor really is in the thick of it now i love everything with him and oz and francis as

[01:02:33] well what a unique makeshift family unit they've become looks like penguin finally landed a speech

[01:02:39] that works although it's one that i've heard before and let's not forget that ending victor

[01:02:44] really sucks at doing security can't wait to see what we where we go from here 3.5 jason todd

[01:02:50] references via my nemesis crow barkin squid sleeping with the fishes and you want to know how

[01:02:55] i got these scars therapy sessions out of five very good i like that uh yes so uh julian uh covered in

[01:03:03] scars after his uh his therapy session with uh with sophia thanks so much uh meryl uh absolutely

[01:03:09] with you on everything you've said the um i think in particular the unique makeshift family that is

[01:03:17] oz victim francis there's i don't know something really kind of positive about it and i mean you

[01:03:25] know that's in a i guess as like coffee and vodka said that's in a in a show where technically you

[01:03:32] shouldn't have a horse in the race here and they're all potentially varying degrees of despicable um

[01:03:40] apart from francis maybe i would hasten to add although she certainly seems to have a good influence

[01:03:47] over oz but yeah she's she's wondering which uh which members of which family is going to kill next

[01:03:52] you know she's kind of enjoying the old uh the death of the existing order but i i really like that

[01:03:59] i just call it the makeshift uh family and um yeah he does suck at doing security but

[01:04:07] i think crowballs are pretty good at uh getting through security if they need to i think what's

[01:04:15] really good as i said that moment where you hear it yeah before you see it in a sense uh you hear

[01:04:22] the the forced entry but over the din of everything else it doesn't necessarily register as that and

[01:04:30] you get that reaction from victor and then you see her stood there with the crowbar yeah like that's

[01:04:36] so good that's really good it's really good but uh but yeah uh last week he was asleep uh when uh when

[01:04:41] oz walked into the house and uh this week uh he's dancing uh when uh there's an attack from

[01:04:46] gigante family um not great uh let's see how that plays out next week thanks so much for that meryl yeah

[01:04:52] thanks meryl uh over on facebook richard blaze says what an absolute belter of an episode from

[01:05:00] vick killing squid to oz's rousing speech near the end it was virtually perfect and whilst you have

[01:05:06] the backdrop of violence drugs and poverty it's the time oz spends speaking with and caring for his

[01:05:13] mart that is really making this show stand out the delight at seeing her up and dancing at the end

[01:05:19] wasn't a real emotional punch really not looking forward to next week's episode and what it means

[01:05:26] now sophia has found them and completely agree with you richard and that moment of francis and victor

[01:05:35] dancing and just victor being really awkward with it and her kind of really going to town with all the

[01:05:43] lights you know like christmas has all come at once in that moment and it wasn't a real emotional punch

[01:05:51] with the pan back uh of um it's like death watching over you know a joyous occasion knowing that a death

[01:06:00] is about to happen uh really really good um and i'm totally the uh around these moments it's particularly

[01:06:10] in this episode of oz and francis's relationship but also you get victor trying to sort of step in a bit

[01:06:20] here like uh you had mentioned derrick um and kind of being admonished by by oz for uh speaking about

[01:06:29] his brother yeah i mean he has no right to but trying to help francis out to that connection you know

[01:06:36] um yeah good stuff uh richard absolutely thanks richard uh also some feedback in from becky anderson

[01:06:42] again about this family dynamic being the most important part of this episode uh becky says the

[01:06:47] moments between oz and his mom were heartbreaking hard to see a loved one disappearing like that but

[01:06:51] i love how loving and tender oz was with her incredible acting by both vic is all the way in now

[01:06:57] no coming back from taking someone's life oz was brilliant selling the cruise on working with them

[01:07:02] the devil you know versus the devil you don't anyone else notice the ceiling light in eve's

[01:07:06] apartment looked like penguin's umbrella the look of longing on sophia's face when she saw victor and

[01:07:12] mama cob dancing and when eve was talking about her girls having each other's back things that

[01:07:17] sophia never knew and never had great catches there becky yeah that's that's a really good point

[01:07:22] about how sophia is kind of learning from all of these other interactions and encounters that

[01:07:27] she's having having across gotham um will it bode well for uh for francis cobb next week uh when

[01:07:37] she may be able to talk to uh to sophia and may be able to uh encourage her not to kill them in some

[01:07:43] way or maybe victor's gonna be able to talk her or talk her around um because of the things she's

[01:07:49] learning about all these people around the city i don't know i don't i don't think so though but i

[01:07:52] think sophia is at least learning that there's a different way um of living life in gotham than

[01:07:58] she's been used to and that's part of the falcone family yeah but she also realizes the need for blood

[01:08:06] when it happens so i i don't know i don't think she's going to learn something from them i think

[01:08:11] it might be that she keeps them alive um for just a the right amount of time or one of them gets away

[01:08:22] the other doesn't or she allows one to get away so that can give the message i mean we'll have to

[01:08:28] see yeah and i think the point is is that she's found the weakness of oz cobb which is the tender

[01:08:36] moments that richard talked about yeah and that you see between oz and his mother absolutely absolutely

[01:08:43] great stuff becky thanks so much for your feedback and thanks everyone for your feedback this week and
