Episode Synopsis:
Ben Reilly has a new case. He has been hired by Cat Hardy to investigate the disappearance of her bodyguard Flint Marko. Even though he suspects Cat is hiding information from him, Ben finds a photo in Flint's apartment. He discovers that Sandman Marko and Flameman Addison were former World War I soldiers in France. He also discovers that both worked as enforcers for The Big Boss Silvermane.
When pressed by Ben for the connection, Cat admits Silvermane owns the Alcove and says she has personal reasons for searching for Flint Marko unconnected to the club owner.
Ben's journalist friend Robbie Robertson follows up on his leads and interviews James Addison's widow and learns she has been spending the money Addison earned from burning down Silvermane's mansion on a luxurious lifestyle, but he gets no leads on who hired Addison for the Silvermane job.
Meanwhile, Marko's condition has worsened as his skin has remained the texture of sand. So he has chosen to hide with his friend Lonnie Lincoln, another member of his World War I squad from France.
After Silvermane's men threaten his secretary Janet, Ben chooses to become the Spider again so that he can intimidate Silvermane into leaving Ben and Janet alone.
But he later learns from Robbie that Silvermane was on his way to an alcohol shipment at the docks, where the police had planned to arrest him for his smuggling operation. So the intervention of The Spider unintentionally saved him from arrest.

00:00 --> 00:10 [SPEAKER_03]: This is the Defenders podcast on TV podcast industry, and we're continuing our spoiler-filled discussion of Spiderman War, episode two, tread lightly.
00:11 --> 00:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Are we going to talk about the fact that he turned into some kind of sand monster?
00:16 --> 00:17 [SPEAKER_00]: What I know, she knows.
00:18 --> 00:24 [SPEAKER_01]: It started about six months ago, slow at first, but it's been getting worse.
00:25 --> 00:27 [SPEAKER_00]: And he never remembers when it happened?
00:27 --> 00:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he always remembers unless he gets clubbed in the head with an iron grater.
00:32 --> 00:32 [SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
00:33 --> 00:34 [SPEAKER_02]: He turned into sand.
00:34 --> 00:35 [SPEAKER_02]: That's it was sand, right?
00:36 --> 00:37 [SPEAKER_02]: It just seems like kind of like a big deal.
00:37 --> 00:40 [SPEAKER_00]: So do you have any clues as to what's causing this to happen?
00:40 --> 00:42 [SPEAKER_00]: You haven't given us much to go on.
00:42 --> 00:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that what the money is for?
00:44 --> 00:45 [SPEAKER_01]: You're an investigator.
00:46 --> 00:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Investigate.
00:48 --> 00:53 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, an artist doesn't just paint with air, he needs a canvas, brushes, paint.
00:53 --> 00:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you think I'm withholding from you, Mr. Rally?
00:55 --> 00:56 [SPEAKER_00]: What if I said I did?
00:56 --> 00:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I'd ask why you thought that.
00:57 --> 00:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's say a lifetime of experience.
00:59 --> 01:00 [SPEAKER_01]: With clients.
01:01 --> 01:01 [UNKNOWN]: With women.
01:03 --> 01:06 [SPEAKER_01]: As fun as this little game is, I'm afraid I have other business to attend to.
01:07 --> 01:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Get to painting, Mr. Rally.
01:35 --> 01:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Ah, a rack-nid noir, come on in.
01:38 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back fellow defenders.
01:40 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_03]: This is the Defenders podcast on TV podcast industries.
01:45 --> 01:48 [SPEAKER_03]: And we are talking all about Spideon Roar episode two.
01:49 --> 01:51 [SPEAKER_03]: Tread Lightly, I am one of your host John.
01:52 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_04]: I am your other host Derek sitting over here with a catch-up sandwich, hoping to take the cool general soon.
01:58 --> 01:59 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, um, yes.
02:00 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, there's just some great stuff at this episode, but yeah catch a sandwich, you know somebody is in dire need of a job When they're making a catch a sandwich for the slowly I kind of
02:14 --> 02:27 [SPEAKER_03]: slightly voluminous into my mouth and the thoughts of, I mean, I love ketchup, but the notion of having that amount as the primary feeling for a sandwich kind of made me want to eat.
02:27 --> 02:29 [SPEAKER_04]: It's just a bacon buddy with it, the bacon though, John.
02:30 --> 02:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
02:31 --> 02:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
02:32 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_03]: There's an important thing missing in that bossy.
02:35 --> 02:37 [SPEAKER_04]: You're definitely not going to say I'm going to have a bossy for lunch.
02:38 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_04]: Usually just a bacon buddy, right?
02:41 --> 02:41 [SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
02:42 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_04]: Catch a bossy.
02:44 --> 02:57 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, but I can imagine your favorite HP or brand source pussy the amount of HP But fellow defenders welcome back to our coverage of spies in the war.
02:58 --> 03:11 [SPEAKER_03]: I hope you liked my black add a reference And at the start the All right, welcome to all got it indeed and there is a great moment I think it's black out of the third where you have King George
03:12 --> 03:17 [SPEAKER_03]: The third played by Hugh Laurie saying to Blackouter to come in.
03:17 --> 03:22 [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's the French Revolution one with the Scarlet Pin Penel.
03:22 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_03]: It would be better.
03:23 --> 03:27 [SPEAKER_03]: And yes, so the Prince Regent is talking in French a lot.
03:27 --> 03:30 [SPEAKER_03]: So he does call him Latter Noir.
03:30 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Which to be honest, every time I say Spider Noir, I'm kind of wanting to say the Prince Regent's line from that episode.
03:40 --> 03:53 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, and you may have noticed if you've seen the transcript from our last episode that for some reason the the automated transcription services cannot pick up so I don't know are so it's turned into spider war.
03:53 --> 03:58 [SPEAKER_04]: So actually, so we may be covering a show called spider war.
03:58 --> 03:59 [SPEAKER_03]: You never know.
04:00 --> 04:02 [SPEAKER_04]: Excellent stuff transcripts.
04:02 --> 04:03 [SPEAKER_04]: And I think guys,
04:03 --> 04:11 [SPEAKER_03]: But yes, fellow defenders, as always, please head on over to our website to subscribe.

04:53 --> 04:57 [SPEAKER_04]: I support a post for each episode of the show because all I released in the same day
04:59 --> 05:03 [SPEAKER_04]: Facebook and on Discord as well so you can share your thoughts on each episode as you've got through them.
05:03 --> 05:13 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, but without further ado, let us get into our spoiler-filled discussion of the second episode of Spiderman War tread lightly.
05:13 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, because we're covering two episodes a week of Spiderman War, so when you're sending your feedback, just keep that in mind as well so you can watch what along with us at the same time.
05:21 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_04]: So for the second episode, the show we're on the show is Oren Ozeel, as we mentioned last episode.
05:27 --> 05:28 [SPEAKER_04]: This episode was written by Christopher Chen.
05:28 --> 05:32 [SPEAKER_04]: He's a playwright mostly for many, many years, and is an executive producer on this show.
05:32 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_04]: He's moving the holes currently filming and starring Christian Slater and Theo James.
05:36 --> 05:39 [SPEAKER_04]: Excellent, so two big projects go along with the moment.
05:39 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
05:40 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_04]: But play right.
05:41 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, hey, nonny, nonny.
05:43 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I wonder.
05:43 --> 05:45 [SPEAKER_04]: I think that's also a quote from Blackouter.
05:46 --> 05:47 [SPEAKER_04]: I might be.
05:47 --> 05:52 [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, this episode, what's again directed by Harry Bradbury who mentioned on the first episode as he directed that one as well.
05:53 --> 05:56 [SPEAKER_04]: John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with your synopsis for us, but in
06:01 --> 06:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Ben Riley has a new case, here's Ben hired by Cat Hardy to investigate the disappearance of her bodyguard Flint Marco, even though he suspects cat is hiding information from him Ben finds a photo-influenced apartment.
06:14 --> 06:21 [SPEAKER_03]: He discovers that Sandman, Marco, and Flameman, Aderson were former World War One soldiers in France.
06:21 --> 06:26 [SPEAKER_03]: He also discovers that both worked as enforcers for the big boss, Silvermein.
06:27 --> 06:38 [SPEAKER_03]: When pressed by Ben for the connection cat admits Silvermain owns the alcove, and says she has personal reasons for searching for Flintmarko, unconnected to the clobona.
06:38 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Ben's journalist friend Robbie Robertson follows up on his leads and interviews James Addison's widow, learning that she has been spending the money Addison earned from burning down Silvermain's mansion on a luxurious lifestyle, but he gets new leads on
06:56 --> 07:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile, Flintmarker's condition has worsened as his skin has remained the texture of sand.
07:02 --> 07:08 [SPEAKER_03]: So he has chosen to hide with his friend, Lonnie Lincoln, another member of his World War War 1 squad from France.
07:09 --> 07:18 [SPEAKER_03]: After Silverman's men threaten his secretary Janet, Ben chooses to become the spider again, so that he can intimidate Silverman into leaving Ben and Janet alone.
07:19 --> 07:28 [SPEAKER_03]: But he later learns from Robbie that Silvermain was on his way to an alcohol shipment at the docks, where the police had planned to arrest him for his smuggling operation.
07:28 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_03]: So the intervention of the spider unintentionally saved Silvermain from arrest.
07:34 --> 07:59 [SPEAKER_03]: always happens isn't it doesn't it you try and do something for yourself and then everything just blows up and you're absolutely the law of unintended consequence and well you do nothing otherwise so yes in essence he was there to try and protect Janet because Janet did get a good or ruffing from the two goons that Silverman has and I was kind of thinking they were a bit like
08:03 --> 08:07 [SPEAKER_03]: But of course, they are called Perry and Pudge which is certainly a lot worse.
08:07 --> 08:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I think you're imagine being called Pudge I think he probably could do with his apple frame.
08:12 --> 08:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure.
08:13 --> 08:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but it's like G-pudge Here we come.
08:18 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_03]: So yes, you know You can understand why Ben Riley would don the black Macintosh and has.
08:28 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
08:28 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
08:29 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
08:29 --> 08:30 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely
08:30 --> 08:38 [SPEAKER_03]: but let us get into our flip flips with our top five web shots of the episode.
08:38 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_03]: And so, two tread lightly, let's start off with our web shot number one.
08:47 --> 08:50 [SPEAKER_03]: It is the new case.
08:50 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_03]: I like the fact here that it starts straight after episode one here.
09:00 --> 09:12 [SPEAKER_03]: Janice is also aware that Flint Marco, who Kat Hardy is there to sort of have been tracking down because he's got missing, Janet also knows that he's turned into this sand monster.
09:12 --> 09:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and so I like the fact that again, you know, we're talking about it in the first episode, you know, Janice is more than a secretary where Ben's turns to Kat when she kind of
09:23 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, looks around seeing that Janet knows flint marker secret and says, in here, whatever I know, Janet also knows, you know, they are partners in a sense.
09:34 --> 09:38 [SPEAKER_03]: And so we have a nice kind of painting metaphor here.
09:39 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_03]: that Kat Hardy has here, which I kind of quite like and, you know, there's a lot of tune and frown between the two.
09:46 --> 09:48 [SPEAKER_03]: It was like in our intro there.
09:48 --> 09:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but ultimately she's like, get to painting Mr. Riley, do your job and start investigate.
09:54 --> 09:54 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
09:54 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_04]: They have those studies that they say to, you know, you're having to give us much information to go on.
09:58 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_04]: She goes, what's your
09:59 --> 10:03 [SPEAKER_04]: I gave you the money, and that's the case, but it's really good.
10:03 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_04]: Love the opening of the episode as well, because it starts off with a spider creeping around Ben's desk, and then cat kills it with a newspaper.
10:12 --> 10:16 [SPEAKER_04]: You know, we've said she's femme fatale, he's the character of the spider.
10:16 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_04]: He clearly fell in love with her when he saw her singing in that first episode, and here she is killing his spider at the beginning.
10:22 --> 10:25 [SPEAKER_04]: It's the second episode, so maybe not someone to trust.
10:25 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely.
10:26 --> 10:27 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's great.
10:27 --> 10:28 [SPEAKER_04]: I love this.
10:28 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_04]: We do get a little bit more information about Clint Marko and him being the Sandman In this opening sequence.
10:35 --> 10:41 [SPEAKER_04]: We hear that he's he's been turning into sand Just for the last six months, which is quite interesting.
10:41 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_04]: It's not so this happened six months ago He didn't really know why it's happened and he's disappeared there.
10:46 --> 10:50 [SPEAKER_04]: So she's setting sending Ben, I took on finding
10:50 --> 11:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, because she was at the skyscraper and sort of protecting Flint Marko from any further sort of um beatings from from the spider from Ben Riley and so and he he seems to have slipped her here
11:07 --> 11:15 [SPEAKER_03]: and gone into hiding, and she doesn't know where, and he's certainly not his apartment, and he's certainly not turned up to work for that day.
11:16 --> 11:20 [SPEAKER_03]: So I do like the fact that he goes to his apartment,
11:22 --> 11:46 [SPEAKER_03]: find you know finding out a bit more information here and in particular that not only I think when Kat Hardy is describing it she's like it's getting progressively worse so that she knows about the condition but this time the condition didn't go its stage and it's been hanging around for longer and longer now it's almost semi-permanent and
11:46 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_03]: When Ben Riley goes to his apartment, there's no kind of sign that he's been there, certainly no sign as to why he would be the way he is, however what he does find out is twofold.
12:12 --> 12:25 [SPEAKER_03]: museum in our gone friends and he's there seen with a group photo of the battalion or the platoon and in there he also sees Addison.
12:26 --> 12:38 [SPEAKER_03]: The other interesting thing that we see in this photo and who we meet for the first time in this episode is Loddy Lincoln and he's also in the same photo
12:40 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_03]: aspect that comes in here is that he is interrupted by the arrival of Winston's as well at the apartment also looking for flint market and so there is some reason for flint market to be on the radar of silver main and Winston and
13:03 --> 13:09 [SPEAKER_03]: as we learn later on, it is that he has been in the employee of Silverman as well.
13:09 --> 13:10 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
13:10 --> 13:17 [SPEAKER_03]: And probably the highest hand to look after his investment at the Alcove to protect cat hearty.
13:17 --> 13:19 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, yes, that's what she says.
13:19 --> 13:23 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's the reason that she that we learn later on as well.
13:23 --> 13:24 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
13:24 --> 13:48 [SPEAKER_04]: really love the tension in the scene when he's when he's investigating flood department and the guys arrive, he hides himself into the closet which again gets paraded later on by Janet because that's the most obvious place that she's in husband hides and is always in the closet basically so love the tension of the scene and it works really well in the two different versions that you can watch the black and white on the and the color version
13:48 --> 14:07 [SPEAKER_04]: The black and white works really well when you see the lighting through the slats of the closet that he's hiding in as Winston gets closer in closer to him and then the color works really well when you see his hat on the table, his hat covered in rain from outside and just the color of the hat and the shine of the of the dropper sort of rain that are left on it.
14:08 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_04]: He knows if somebody finds the hat there, they'll know someone has just come in from either the rain.
14:12 --> 14:17 [SPEAKER_04]: So he has to use his Paris to quickly whip that hat off the desk and hide it in the closet with himself.
14:17 --> 14:18 [SPEAKER_04]: Really good.
14:18 --> 14:24 [SPEAKER_04]: And then he locks the doors of the closet, the handles of the closet with his webbing as well.
14:24 --> 14:28 [SPEAKER_03]: So when it actually goes to open the closet, but can't open it.
14:29 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_03]: He's probably just guessing it's a dodgy locking mechanism.
14:32 --> 14:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Or it is locked.
14:35 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_03]: But it's interesting, he just gets interrupted really rather than forcing the closet door open.
14:41 --> 14:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
14:42 --> 14:50 [SPEAKER_03]: But the slanted thing is always weird for me because we know that you can't see through it.
14:50 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Unless you're really at down some angle.
14:52 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_03]: But it's just the whole thing of...
14:56 --> 14:59 [SPEAKER_03]: for the camera, so that you can see them looking out.
15:00 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a classic shot.
15:00 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, definitely.
15:01 --> 15:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
15:02 --> 15:04 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but it is such a classic shot, isn't it?
15:04 --> 15:07 [SPEAKER_04]: It's like the view inside our demands mask with Tony Stark's face.
15:07 --> 15:08 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, exactly.
15:08 --> 15:15 [SPEAKER_04]: The new one that's in the new Spider-Man movie where you can see Tom Holland's face and side of the spider mask, even though that would not be possible, of course.
15:16 --> 15:17 [SPEAKER_04]: You'll be able to fit a camera between the mask and the face.
15:18 --> 15:23 [SPEAKER_04]: Here, as you can see, the face of Ben reacting to things while he's inside the
15:26 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_04]: otherwise it's just his face looking out and you could instantly see him but it is.
15:31 --> 15:49 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just a cool chapter have I don't know absolutely it's always just interesting though because it's like you know it's the technicality of the shops and getting the image but you know that it would go against how that door would look you know but it's it's always the case I mean it's been in E.T.
15:49 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_03]: it's been in plenty of
15:52 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just a really, I think that's why it just comes to mind here for me in this apartment.
15:59 --> 16:00 [SPEAKER_04]: That's the scene.
16:00 --> 16:01 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, definitely.
16:01 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_04]: But I also just, again, that the scene of the hat, I think, is just really cool.
16:05 --> 16:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Because as he takes it away, there is a dribble of water left on the table.
16:09 --> 16:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
16:11 --> 16:14 [SPEAKER_04]: the investigation from Winston that may be something's going on.
16:14 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_04]: He sees that there's a little mark left on the table again.
16:17 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_04]: Something that you wouldn't be able to see in, I kind of remember whether it was black and white or color that you couldn't see at that particular mark left behind.
16:24 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_04]: But, uh, interesting way that they've, whether they've given some idea to Winston that someone might be there.
16:30 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, that's cool.
16:31 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
16:32 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_03]: And should we get on to our web shot number two?
16:34 --> 16:35 [SPEAKER_04]: Let's do it.
16:37 --> 16:54 [SPEAKER_04]: cool under pressure for our fan face how I think yes definitely cat is always pretty cool I love the little reference to that from janitor after she leaves the office and janitor saying to her saying to Ben I think you need a cold shower I think I need a cold shower yeah it's so close
16:54 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_04]: So, just again, Kat is very smooth and very sexy to everybody around her, which is exactly what you want from your friend Fatal for the show, but we have Ben going down and confronting her with this new information that he has, you know, he goes down and tells her, um,
17:11 --> 17:26 [SPEAKER_04]: that he's kind of frustrated with the fact that she didn't tell him that Flint worked for Silverman, that would be pretty important information for someone like Ben, who's trying to keep as far away from Silverman as he possibly can because of his past, I guess, being the spider.
17:26 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_04]: He wants to keep as far away from the underworld as possible.
17:29 --> 17:31 [SPEAKER_04]: It's not just a simple case of a guy disappearing.
17:31 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_04]: It's a possibly a guy who works for the mob disappearing, and that's a very different
17:38 --> 17:46 [SPEAKER_03]: to like the Ben Riley says like I don't like surprises which is well remind me to ask you that on your birthday.
17:46 --> 17:48 [SPEAKER_03]: It was just really good.
17:48 --> 18:04 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought really good little moments yeah so he certainly doesn't like the silver main surprise but yeah I mean here we have in essence I mean she does say she owns it but effectively it's come under the influence of silver main.
18:04 --> 18:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I wonder if he's actually
18:07 --> 18:12 [SPEAKER_03]: it's almost de facto he owns it through getting protection money.
18:12 --> 18:21 [SPEAKER_03]: So it's a bit like with all those businesses that she feels constrictive limited.
18:22 --> 18:25 [SPEAKER_03]: It's also the club he likes to be and we saw him
18:30 --> 18:32 [SPEAKER_03]: He sees her as his investment.
18:32 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_04]: I would say it's more, you know, the criminal underworld figure who's who does own the club will put all the deeds in her name so he can wash his money through it and he can hide everything through that way.
18:44 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_04]: I think that's that's probably what she means because she basically says her job there is to ensure that everybody comes to the club over and over again.
18:51 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_04]: that's why she has to learn all the songs that she has to learn that's why she has to deliver the impression she delivers with her songs and her numbers.
18:59 --> 19:03 [SPEAKER_04]: She knows that if she fails at that at some day, self-mame will throw her actually effectively as well.
19:03 --> 19:06 [SPEAKER_04]: So she has to keep on his good side.
19:06 --> 19:12 [SPEAKER_04]: But she's very clear in this idea with Ben the reason why she didn't mention is because
19:12 --> 19:14 [SPEAKER_04]: This is an investigation of Marko.
19:14 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_04]: She doesn't think silver maids involved and she has business with silver maids and she has business with Ben and one has nothing to do with the other is what she says.
19:22 --> 19:23 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no absolutely.
19:24 --> 19:26 [SPEAKER_03]: I really like sort of
19:27 --> 19:31 [SPEAKER_03]: how she handles it really and it's also another interesting point.
19:31 --> 19:52 [SPEAKER_03]: So she doesn't know Addison and you know Ben Riley asks whether and she knows she at least tells him that she doesn't so I'm face value at least she doesn't know of Addison and that's not to say she might not be lying but at least in this instance she's saying she doesn't know Addison.
19:52 --> 20:03 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, and I think it's when he passes over the photograph and she gives it a little look and that's what he says to her you're real cool and depression or I didn't she goes didn't realize I was under pressure and yeah, but also
20:06 --> 20:09 [SPEAKER_04]: It's just the way she reacts when he says Addison's Dead.
20:09 --> 20:14 [SPEAKER_04]: And the PI that was investigating Addison is also dead, and she goes, the world's a dangerous place.
20:15 --> 20:19 [SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's just that way she reacts to things around her.
20:19 --> 20:27 [SPEAKER_04]: If it doesn't specifically impact her, she allows it to just wash over, probably because of the kind of pressure that self-man puts her under her cat.
20:27 --> 20:34 [SPEAKER_04]: So, great, again, another, out of the great episode for Lesion Lee is as a cat-hardy, really good, really, really good here.
20:35 --> 20:43 [SPEAKER_03]: definitely, definitely, really enjoyed this kind of hustling that she's doing, the cool under pressure.
20:44 --> 21:04 [SPEAKER_03]: And all the while, as Ben leaves, we see that Flint is on the top of a building on the other side of the road looking on from the opposite building, so he is around, is he kind of watching her still as that protector or just wondering, okay, who's coming after me?
21:05 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_04]: What's happening?
21:06 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
21:06 --> 21:07 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, exactly.
21:16 --> 21:36 [SPEAKER_04]: Just a quick one because the mayor had been such a big figure in the first episode him having potentially a relationship with Cass and then him being snapped up for the photos being snapped by Ben and so we do see the mayor trying to get re-elected so he's making his speech to the people of New York.
21:36 --> 21:46 [SPEAKER_04]: And I love Robbie Robertson as being asked, you know, what's the headline that you're going to be used for this and effectively both his suggestion and then suggestion say there's no chance this guy's going to get reelected.
21:47 --> 21:52 [SPEAKER_04]: But interestingly, just to the point itself is it's coming up to the end of prohibition.
21:53 --> 22:05 [SPEAKER_04]: in real life that ended in December 1933, where the show itself is set in 1933, so it's quite interesting that this would be the backdrop of the show.
22:05 --> 22:14 [SPEAKER_04]: Prohibition era is very much a big part of these type of mafia shows, these type of crime, noir shows, back in those days.
22:14 --> 22:16 [SPEAKER_04]: So they're setting it right at the end of this period.
22:17 --> 22:18 [SPEAKER_04]: The big event happening is
22:18 --> 22:42 [SPEAKER_04]: the end of prohibition and it's it seems to come from the mirror seeing the people in front of them potentially supporters potentially people who were against him who were a show we were showing up big placards saying end prohibition and it goes okay i'll um yeah it's just like if you're opportunistic yeah grab by by the man that's becomes one of his campaign promises right there right then
22:46 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no.
22:47 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_03]: This was good.
22:48 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_03]: I like how, as you say, it's just really in that same moment as the real life end of prohibition.
22:58 --> 23:05 [SPEAKER_03]: And I guess even catch up sandwiches should be, let's should be prohibition for that as well.
23:05 --> 23:10 [SPEAKER_04]: And you know, but I think yeah, we do kind of hear how bad things are for Robbie.
23:10 --> 23:11 [SPEAKER_04]: He's here.
23:11 --> 23:19 [SPEAKER_04]: He's here covering the mayor and his reelection campaign even though it probably won't happen Because if he don't publish, he don't eat as he says so.
23:20 --> 23:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's not things aren't going well for it right now Yeah, I mean it's it's a good it's a good one because you get you know one side of the conversation what you do get both you over here the other side of the conversation as
23:35 --> 23:47 [SPEAKER_03]: He phones up the newspaper that he used to work for and the lady, the secretary on the other size of the phone, who seems to be secretary to a guy called Walters and he must be the editor.
23:47 --> 23:53 [SPEAKER_03]: As you're not getting your old job back and but Robbie at least tries to get gets.
23:54 --> 24:00 [SPEAKER_03]: I think he's fucked in the door here, which happens twice actually because he also gets it with Vera Addison.
24:02 --> 24:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Addison's wife, because he does say, look, I'm sitting on a big story as big as the spider.
24:10 --> 24:14 [SPEAKER_03]: That is that there are other superpowers individuals out there.
24:14 --> 24:18 [SPEAKER_03]: And she does, and ultimately kind of go, look, I'll see what I can do.
24:19 --> 24:26 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, but he's definitely on skid row a bit at the moment with the catch-up sandwich.
24:26 --> 24:27 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, yes, he is.
24:28 --> 24:35 [SPEAKER_04]: I love that little touch of him talking about the spider and that he has the story that's connected to it because again, very similar to comic books by the man used to
24:36 --> 24:52 [SPEAKER_04]: effectively give everybody in the daily bugle their jobs, you know, some people would be at take a photographs of Spider-Man traveling through the streets, some people be covering the crimes that he was stopping, but it would be from page news every time there was a big event with Spider-Man and everybody, all the writers and all the photographers would all get there, get their pay from it.
24:52 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_04]: eventually including Peter Parker who would take the best photographs of Spider-Man so yeah so here what it's saying is five years on from the spider disappearing in New York probably Robertson's hidden hard times because he used to get great coverage back then and now he can't so so yeah so he's willing to find do anything to find a new story that will sell papers rush and give him money
25:15 --> 25:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, definitely.
25:16 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_04]: And he continues on the investigation.
25:18 --> 25:23 [SPEAKER_04]: I know it's not actually a part of this point specifically, but he does continue on the investigation from Allison.
25:23 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_04]: This is the warning that he gets from Ben is don't continue following him.
25:27 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_04]: Dan, because you're in the site to celebrate, man, if you do that.
25:30 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_04]: But as he continues on and investigates Addison, his family and finds out what's happening with him to try and see if he can find a connection, who's involved, he finds out that there is a wife Vera, who's been using all the money that Addison gets from his criminal endeavors.
25:47 --> 25:52 [SPEAKER_04]: to put herself up in hotels and buy expensive food and champagne and expensive clothes.
25:52 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_04]: So this guy was never getting out of criminal endeavors, it seems, because he'd just come home with the paycheck and Vera would just go at the door the next day and spend it off.
26:02 --> 26:19 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely, but he does also go to Addison's last known address, which seems a bit of a slum, and this is where he also puts up against Lonnie Lincoln, who is this huge mass of a man.
26:19 --> 26:23 [SPEAKER_03]: He was very strong, and a very angry man, but he tells him why he's at the end of the day,
26:30 --> 26:33 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, he does a quick shuffle to get around him, but
26:35 --> 26:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Lonnie does tell him that Vera had some normally stays at the Jeffrey hotel.
26:42 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Again, it's really nice little touches here, him going, having to go in the back entrance because only whites are allowed through the main hotel door.
26:53 --> 26:54 [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
26:54 --> 26:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
26:55 --> 27:00 [SPEAKER_03]: And even then with his interaction with Vera at her hotel room.
27:00 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_03]: door, where she says, you know, if you start to keep asking me these questions, I'll scream, and you know what happens when a white woman screams at a black man.
27:10 --> 27:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
27:11 --> 27:18 [SPEAKER_03]: And I like that he handles that really coolly to say, well, I can scream as well, and I can scream, so that silver
27:23 --> 27:31 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, in a sense, he doesn't get too much chance to vera either, like he certainly doesn't get a name, as to who possibly had hired him.
27:31 --> 27:38 [SPEAKER_03]: And what he does get from vera is probably that it was a bit of a loveless marriage where she goes.
27:40 --> 27:52 [SPEAKER_03]: He took his own grave, and now he's lying in it, kind of no tea is there, but still spending at least the big paycheck that he got for setting fire to Silverman's mansion.
27:53 --> 27:56 [SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, really interesting a bit here.
27:57 --> 28:05 [SPEAKER_03]: following on from a Riley and Robbie watching them at the rally and for his reelection.
28:05 --> 28:08 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm really liking this version of Robbie Robertson.
28:08 --> 28:19 [SPEAKER_04]: If you have just one reporter in the show, if it's not based around the daily bugle, if it's just based around a reporter in the street, I love that it's probably that the show's here and he says, don't do a really good work.
28:19 --> 28:20 [SPEAKER_04]: Definitely.
28:20 --> 28:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Definitely.
28:28 --> 28:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Janet under threats.
28:30 --> 28:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
28:30 --> 28:31 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
28:31 --> 28:38 [SPEAKER_04]: This really starts out with the apartment face for Ben with Perry and Pudge as they come over to try and take him in to silver man.
28:38 --> 28:45 [SPEAKER_04]: I don't think for the first time in the show, we see a tiny bit of unleashed necklace cage here.
28:45 --> 28:53 [SPEAKER_04]: when he walks through the door and then crosses his arms as a bite to shoot his web again at the two of them and it goes, um, Tai Chi.
28:54 --> 29:01 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's very good to relax it and it just seems absolutely crazy to come out of his mouth and that in that specific moment.
29:01 --> 29:08 [SPEAKER_04]: Um, body then throws the toast directly into as a Perry's face that it is, um, breaking his nose and then goes along with them.
29:08 --> 29:09 [SPEAKER_04]: It's all okay.
29:09 --> 29:14 [SPEAKER_04]: Um, but just as that great thing that, uh, this character can do where he
29:15 --> 29:23 [SPEAKER_04]: Talks to these two idiots get to know information out of them and then just walks at the door as a car Yeah, it goes out and then suspends himself from the bridge.
29:24 --> 29:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no.
29:24 --> 29:29 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, sorry about the nose to purge as he punches up on the face Yeah, and purge is like what?
29:30 --> 29:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think as well, it's you know, you get the spider sense as he goes into his apartment So he manages to evade Paris a initial sort of grab and punch at him
29:43 --> 30:10 [SPEAKER_03]: So, yet you have that, still the main clearly wants to talk to Ben Riley, we have Ben getting that information that Domical has died at the hands of Silvermein, but they do go then after going to Ben's apartment, they go to his place of work and start tipping the desks over,
30:11 --> 30:19 [SPEAKER_03]: unloading the filing cabinets, all that, but more tragically for Janet, is that they start going after Janet as well.
30:20 --> 30:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And you know, you just have that silhouetted image of a gun at her head.
30:25 --> 30:32 [SPEAKER_03]: And it's not only just that Ryan is office has been turned over, but, you know, Janet is really shook up about it.
30:33 --> 30:33 [SPEAKER_03]: And
30:35 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_03]: There's two elements here.
30:36 --> 30:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I really like the fact she goes, I care about you deeply Ben, but not enough to get killed for you.
30:44 --> 30:51 [SPEAKER_03]: I've been waiting for you to return, but when she says that it's not Ben, it's the spider.
30:51 --> 30:58 [SPEAKER_03]: She knows about the spider and this kind of prompts Ben then to go back to his older apartment.
30:59 --> 31:04 [SPEAKER_03]: to get his spider outfit disguised as the maintenance guy Pete.
31:05 --> 31:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes absolutely.
31:07 --> 31:08 [SPEAKER_04]: Peter Parker maybe.
31:08 --> 31:12 [SPEAKER_04]: I guess that's a great name to pick out of the air, isn't it?
31:12 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_03]: But I do, I just like how Nicholas Cage goofs this off a lot and it's just that classic little bit of
31:25 --> 31:26 [SPEAKER_03]: is all goofy.
31:27 --> 31:28 [SPEAKER_03]: He walks in.
31:28 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_03]: You have that exchange say, oh, the table normally works well over there to get the evening stunning.
31:33 --> 31:38 [SPEAKER_03]: You have the wife saying to her husband, you see, I told you so.
31:39 --> 31:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And as then he goes into the bathroom to deal with a problem that doesn't exist.
31:43 --> 31:44 [SPEAKER_03]: And they hear him
31:54 --> 32:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, which was really cool and him a leaves via the window and I really are just really like that Where he's looking at his old date fiss.
32:04 --> 32:16 [SPEAKER_04]: He's staring out of for a minute too long And you hear the husband that side going is everything okay in there and he goes I'm having a bit of an extra existential crisis and those because I bet my toilets Really good fun
32:18 --> 32:20 [SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, obviously, this is his former apartment where he used to live at Ruby.
32:21 --> 32:23 [SPEAKER_04]: So we may actually back here in Flashbacks later out of the season though.
32:24 --> 32:31 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I would guess we're going to see a bit more about his former fiancé at some point in the season.
32:31 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_04]: So we may be back in this apartment.
32:32 --> 32:36 [SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, I love that he's walking through his little place of residence.
32:36 --> 32:39 [SPEAKER_04]: And he's pointing out, you know, things he liked when he was there.
32:39 --> 32:46 [SPEAKER_04]: But he's doing another of the guys of being a repair guy who has just been a loads of apartments like this in the specific building.
32:46 --> 32:48 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, exactly, it's a really cool way to do it.
32:49 --> 32:56 [SPEAKER_04]: And the reason why he's getting a spider suit back is because he isn't going to take it lying down that they went after Janet, right?
32:56 --> 33:03 [SPEAKER_04]: He wants to defend her and hopefully get them to stop going after Ben and Janet.
33:03 --> 33:04 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely.
33:05 --> 33:08 [SPEAKER_03]: And shall we get onto our webshot number five?
33:08 --> 33:10 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the closing webshot.
33:12 --> 33:18 [SPEAKER_03]: the accidental saving of Silverman from arrest, ultimately, yeah.
33:19 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_04]: But we'd at least forget our big action sequence here, where Spideon O'Wire, her with the spider, is chasing Dan Silverman and his man in their cars.
33:29 --> 33:35 [SPEAKER_04]: And we see him flipping away and throwing Guy's left right in center from the car.
33:35 --> 33:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's really interesting, actually.
33:38 --> 33:39 [SPEAKER_03]: And this is one word.
33:42 --> 34:00 [SPEAKER_03]: In color, it's really, really good, but the thing that struck me most about this whole action sequence in color is just the look of the spider suit, because in black and white, you kind of get, well, it is just a black spider suit, you know, in terms of the the
34:05 --> 34:19 [SPEAKER_03]: In color under the sunlight or of New York as he's thwipping along some of the low-rise streets to follow the convoy of cars that silver man is in as he heads to the docks.
34:20 --> 34:23 [SPEAKER_03]: It's almost like that kind of brownie black.
34:23 --> 34:31 [SPEAKER_03]: It's almost a bit like our podcast charlotte guy, you know, from a distance looks black, but certain angles in the sun there is this brown to it.
34:32 --> 34:34 [SPEAKER_03]: And I thought this was really, really cool.
34:34 --> 34:35 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
34:35 --> 34:40 [SPEAKER_03]: And so that's an interesting little touch in the color version of this.
34:40 --> 34:40 [SPEAKER_04]: It is.
34:40 --> 34:41 [SPEAKER_04]: It is.
34:41 --> 34:43 [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe Charlie is Spyder N'Warr.
34:45 --> 34:47 [SPEAKER_03]: He could very well be smart.
34:47 --> 34:48 [SPEAKER_03]: He could be Spyder cast.
34:48 --> 34:53 [SPEAKER_04]: I think his legs are good enough to be able to banks around like Spyder.
34:54 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_04]: Like the Spyder does.
34:54 --> 35:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Instead of piece of porka, it could be, yeah, it could be piece of.
35:01 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_04]: me hour.
35:01 --> 35:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess piece of Charlie.
35:03 --> 35:05 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm trying to think of a P letter connected to cats.
35:06 --> 35:08 [SPEAKER_04]: Cool piece of Paul's.
35:08 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_04]: There you go.
35:09 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Well done.
35:09 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Well done.
35:10 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_04]: Could be.
35:11 --> 35:12 [SPEAKER_04]: I have to mock that up.
35:12 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm at some point in the photograph.
35:15 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_04]: But no, I won't.
35:16 --> 35:21 [SPEAKER_04]: But I do really love this moment in the fight where they, every takes it all the guys.
35:21 --> 35:25 [SPEAKER_04]: He does, of course, take out Perry and Pudge by smashing their heads together.
35:26 --> 35:26 [SPEAKER_04]: Empty heads.
35:26 --> 35:27 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm pretty good.
35:27 --> 35:28 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm pretty good.
35:28 --> 35:28 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm pretty good.
35:28 --> 35:29 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm pretty good.
35:29 --> 35:38 [SPEAKER_04]: does, yes, and again, must seem like a very weird thing to say, since nobody knows that Ben Riley is spider, but just goes, yeah, Tai Chi, I told you.
35:39 --> 35:47 [SPEAKER_04]: But then he sits down with Silverman and tells him that he should be keeping well away from Janet and also should be keeping away from Ben Riley.
35:47 --> 36:13 [SPEAKER_04]: Ben Rally knows nothing further so time to step back and and keep clear and again I suppose this is probably connected to the relationship That's that's Silverman had to the spider in the past spider was always Runing his plots or in his plans and since that time five years ago Silverman is risen up through the ranks quite significant they'd become the kind of massive boss In in time we heard that right at the beginning of the episode that
36:13 --> 36:27 [SPEAKER_04]: silver mains concern that people may think he's gone soft because in the past with the challenge of the spider he was the strongest and toughest person in New York and maybe people are trying to try to think that his job is easy so they can take over and kill him.
36:28 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_04]: So that's interesting that it's tied all the way to the end here that the spider is coming to him telling him to step back or he'll have to deal with him again.
36:36 --> 37:00 [SPEAKER_03]: like I really like how silver main just takes it on his chin here because basically all this protection has just been taken out and the spider sits down and it almost reminds me a bit of the Deathby Hallows thing where at the end this says and he welcomes death his old friend and he's almost like he welcomes the spider in his old friend
37:01 --> 37:04 [SPEAKER_03]: that's what kind of captain are on his toes on the edge.
37:04 --> 37:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he even offers him a drink.
37:06 --> 37:08 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we have a whiskey watch.
37:08 --> 37:11 [SPEAKER_03]: It's in a kind of a decanter, but he offers him a drink.
37:13 --> 37:40 [SPEAKER_03]: you know he he almost thinks well this is the end and I think he gets slightly surprised that it's just and about the protection of these two people and so I do wonder if then that's peaked his interest even more in Ben Riley PI investigation and because of that association you know why now why the spider and because he's a clever guy and I just kind of like
37:41 --> 37:47 [SPEAKER_03]: the notion of how that might work and moving forward actually for Ben Riley and Janice.
37:47 --> 37:53 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I just like how he is quite cool under pressure, light cat hard.
37:53 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
37:54 --> 37:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, in this moment.
37:55 --> 37:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
37:55 --> 37:56 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
37:56 --> 38:03 [SPEAKER_04]: But we get the final reveal of the episode that the cops were actually down in the ducks.
38:03 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_04]: Trying to take out all of his men.
38:06 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_04]: There's a little battle going on in the background, Robbie Robertson makes a call to bend to say, where were you, what were you doing because it turns out so remain, it didn't turn up to the darks and he should have been caught, but wasn't caught.
38:19 --> 38:24 [SPEAKER_04]: So episodes of Ben going, what have I done because, yeah, so everyone got away from the cops.
38:25 --> 38:25 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
38:26 --> 38:34 [SPEAKER_03]: and so and informant there in possibly in the ranks of Silverman's employee.
38:34 --> 38:36 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, I don't know.
38:36 --> 38:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, dude, because the interesting thing is that he doesn't show, but there's no mention of that from Spiderman War to him.
38:44 --> 38:47 [SPEAKER_03]: So we don't see it on camera as such.
38:47 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_03]: He just doesn't show, is it?
38:48 --> 38:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Because he's shook from having
38:51 --> 38:55 [SPEAKER_03]: it's on to Raj kind of taking out by the spider and that encounter.
38:55 --> 38:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Or, you know, especially given it was so calm.
38:58 --> 39:10 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, you do kind of, well, yeah, or just simply that because you do have the moment earlier, well, Winston is saying, look, let us check it out.
39:11 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_03]: So, maybe
39:17 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, the wider sort of employee of Silverman within his supply chain.
39:22 --> 39:23 [SPEAKER_03]: So who knows?
39:23 --> 39:26 [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, interesting kind of notion here.
39:27 --> 39:27 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
39:27 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_04]: And a great way to end the episode and I think with Hager there.
39:31 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
39:31 --> 39:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Derek, you have any notes for this episode.
39:35 --> 39:41 [SPEAKER_04]: Just a couple of tiny little things that we didn't mention in the discussion with Vera.
39:41 --> 39:55 [SPEAKER_04]: Addison Vera also mentions that Addison's Paris came in about six months ago as well, which is something interesting that since he has his fire of Paris about six months and Flimmarco has his sand Paris about six months that connects the two of them even closer together.
39:55 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_04]: So what did the two of them do?
39:57 --> 40:00 [SPEAKER_04]: That would have given the Paris six months ago.
40:00 --> 40:02 [SPEAKER_04]: So that should be part of the
40:04 --> 40:08 [SPEAKER_04]: And also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:09 --> 40:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah.
40:09 --> 40:14 [SPEAKER_04]: And I also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:14 --> 40:15 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
40:15 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_04]: And I also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:18 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
40:18 --> 40:21 [SPEAKER_04]: And I also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:21 --> 40:21 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
40:21 --> 40:24 [SPEAKER_04]: And I also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:24 --> 40:24 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
40:24 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_04]: And I also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:28 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
40:28 --> 40:31 [SPEAKER_04]: And I also just really enjoy Gianaco and Dan to the police station.
40:32 --> 40:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, just we also find out from conversation between Jonathan and Ben Riley that Ben also forced in our gone in France in World War I.
40:42 --> 40:44 [SPEAKER_04]: Of course, but he didn't know any of these guys.
40:44 --> 40:44 [SPEAKER_04]: No, it says.
40:44 --> 40:46 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, because there were thousands of people there.
40:46 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm that of a particular time, but yeah, he kind of connects himself to that at that time and where we're one.
40:52 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_04]: So,
40:52 --> 41:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so interesting little connection there's absolutely lots to investigate Indeed so Derek so as you defend this episode of Spiderman war episode two tread lightly I do defend this episode absolutely.
41:06 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, really good fun Enjoy this layering on of more intriguing aspects of the story.
41:12 --> 41:17 [SPEAKER_04]: Let's loads of interesting character work here The attack on janna being the inspiration point for
41:18 --> 41:21 [SPEAKER_04]: Ben, to go ahead and get his life fit again and become the spider again.
41:21 --> 41:26 [SPEAKER_04]: I thought that was a great a great idea since she's really the only person that actually helps him.
41:26 --> 41:29 [SPEAKER_04]: Action and works with him in the city other than Robbie.
41:29 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_04]: I really enjoyed that.
41:30 --> 41:34 [SPEAKER_04]: I love the Insight into life back in in the 30s.
41:34 --> 41:44 [SPEAKER_04]: You know this idea that some people live in absolute swallowing and can't get out of it because well There's wives take all of their money and go and spend it on drink and fashion in high class hotels, you know
41:45 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_04]: And blame them for it.
41:46 --> 42:09 [SPEAKER_04]: I think that's quite that's quite an interesting one But you know the underlying issues of the day as well, you know these these guys are all Have all been to war including Ben Riley right there were all in World War One and now here They are in the depression in New York none of them being taken care of not all of them in really bad situations All of them having to take jobs that that they don't really want to take but they're doing it because they need the money Right, so that's one major issue
42:10 --> 42:19 [SPEAKER_04]: Also, as you mentioned earlier on, the racism, the Robbie Robertson's experiencing all across the city, you wondered did he lose his job at that last place that he called into, did he lose it because it was color?
42:20 --> 42:25 [SPEAKER_04]: At the time, you know, it was just something to do with it because a woman did not want to take his call at all.
42:25 --> 42:33 [SPEAKER_04]: When he tried to force his way to have someone talk about this case and take on his news story.
42:33 --> 42:33 [SPEAKER_04]: So,
42:34 --> 42:39 [SPEAKER_04]: I like that they're dealing with all of the environment of the time back in the 30s New York.
42:39 --> 42:40 [SPEAKER_04]: It's really good.
42:40 --> 42:48 [SPEAKER_04]: Last episode was all about setting up the new war aspect, this episode seems to be all about the overall environment in New York at the time as well.
42:48 --> 42:49 [SPEAKER_04]: So I really enjoyed that.
42:49 --> 42:55 [SPEAKER_04]: And that's a fun, you know, the action sequence on the car as Silvermaid's car as was great fun as well.
42:55 --> 43:00 [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, looking forward to another episode after Cliff Hangard at the end of this episode.
43:00 --> 43:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
43:01 --> 43:04 [SPEAKER_03]: And, John, do you defend the second episode of Spirin' War?
43:04 --> 43:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I do defend this second episode, I give it four club catch-up sani's out of five.
43:11 --> 43:14 [SPEAKER_03]: And, yeah, I just, I like how it can tint.
43:14 --> 43:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, not nice.
43:15 --> 43:17 [SPEAKER_04]: And, but chicken lettuce.
43:17 --> 43:17 [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that's true.
43:17 --> 43:19 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I think it is.
43:19 --> 43:20 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's unlayered.
43:21 --> 43:23 [SPEAKER_04]: So, I'm trying to elevate... A club sandwich.
43:23 --> 43:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm trying to elevate Robby's, uh, uh, breakfast sandwich.
43:28 --> 43:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, no, I, I, I really enjoyed this episode.
43:31 --> 43:34 [SPEAKER_03]: I think it, it carried the story on more.
43:34 --> 43:37 [SPEAKER_03]: And I, I think there's some really intriguing things coming out of here.
43:38 --> 43:42 [SPEAKER_03]: First of all, the are gone in France from World War One connection.
43:43 --> 43:44 [SPEAKER_03]: I think this, you know,
43:44 --> 44:02 [SPEAKER_03]: would be just interesting to see how Silverman responds to being and sort of reintroduced after five years to the spider like he is and you know what is the fall out going to be as well of this miss arrest and is it that there's
44:02 --> 44:12 [SPEAKER_03]: is it just that he didn't show because of what happened with the spider or is he onto some kind of betrayal within his group?
44:12 --> 44:12 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
44:13 --> 44:17 [SPEAKER_03]: And you have, you know, the revelation that
44:19 --> 44:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Kat Hardy is connected to Silvermain at least through the club at this moment in time and then she can certainly handle herself in front of Ben Riley despite all of the pressure.
44:33 --> 44:37 [SPEAKER_03]: And again, I'm just really enjoying the the pester pastor of the dialogue.
44:38 --> 44:40 [SPEAKER_03]: I love some of their sort of
44:41 --> 44:48 [SPEAKER_03]: the more at Sunday this stage kind of, you know, supporting cast with Janus and Robby.
44:48 --> 44:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Or the Robby I think gets more here than he did in episode one, which was good to see.
44:54 --> 44:59 [SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, for me, this was four club catch-ups on these out of five definitely.
44:59 --> 45:06 [SPEAKER_03]: a defend and great to see the quality continue through into this second episode with added out with added out.
45:06 --> 45:07 [SPEAKER_04]: Excellent stuff.
45:07 --> 45:11 [SPEAKER_04]: I think we need to hear from our fellow defenders job and hear what they thought about this second episode.
45:11 --> 45:12 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
45:13 --> 45:17 [SPEAKER_03]: First up, we have some feedback by email from coffee and vodka.
45:18 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_03]: You'd provide the feedback for both episode 1 and episode 2.
45:22 --> 45:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Coffee and vodka say is greetings, fellow retired defenders.
45:26 --> 45:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Wanted to hold off until watching the second episode see how far down Surf Dracula Avenue the show was going.
45:33 --> 45:35 [SPEAKER_03]: not far at all, it turns out.
45:35 --> 45:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Outside of this, my doubts about the show were restricted only to it being a Sony production interest.
45:40 --> 45:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Everything else looked like we would have a winner on our hands, Laura Miller, a dark and dirty gum shoe premise, what could go wrong?
45:49 --> 45:58 [SPEAKER_03]: as for Nick himself, his subtle acting, matchstick men, adaptation, or most bombastic, badly talent, Mandy, has never disappointed.
45:59 --> 46:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Weird or serious, he's always been an entertaining Hollywood hero for me.
46:04 --> 46:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Once watched however, I have to admit I wasn't expecting anything this good.
46:08 --> 46:13 [SPEAKER_03]: The commitment to the era is 100% bordering on wonderfully cheesy.
46:14 --> 46:14 [SPEAKER_03]: We even
46:18 --> 46:20 [SPEAKER_03]: to the bit than that.
46:20 --> 46:28 [SPEAKER_03]: The sets, cinematography, scripting, everything shows that the execs were ready to trust and fund the creatives.
46:28 --> 46:35 [SPEAKER_03]: So far, the star of the series has been Karen Rodriguez's Janet delivering decent deadpan dialogue.
46:35 --> 46:43 [SPEAKER_03]: The other world contemporaries, Robbie, Cat, Flint, and Silvermain are all great, making it difficult not to watch it all in one go.
46:44 --> 46:51 [SPEAKER_03]: Finally, the mysteries are intriguing, who ordered the hit on Silvermain, and what happened in France to create the soups.
46:51 --> 47:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for covering this five, dissatisfied satirical secretaries, Flint markers, and plucky punks out of five piece and take care, coffee and vodka.
47:02 --> 47:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks so much coffee and vodka for the feedback really glad that you're enjoying this Yes, it is wonderfully cheesy as well and I'm totally with you around Nick Cage.
47:14 --> 47:14 [SPEAKER_03]: I know sometimes
47:16 --> 47:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess his over acting or his bombastic acting, other the portrayals that sometimes he's gone on an awful lot of flight for, but he does have such great range, like even in the wonderful creepy sort of film, long legs.
47:33 --> 47:39 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, really nice and sort of weird and spooky from Nick Cage.
47:39 --> 47:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, totally, totally terrifying.
47:41 --> 47:42 [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, and terrifying, yes.
47:42 --> 47:44 [SPEAKER_03]: So definitely you're all with you on that.
47:45 --> 47:50 [SPEAKER_04]: Like you're all picking great movies, you know, that's just sometimes you have that nervousness with Nick Cage.
47:50 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_04]: And it's not, it's not his fault.
47:51 --> 47:53 [SPEAKER_04]: He just does so many movies.
47:53 --> 47:56 [SPEAKER_04]: You know, our remember from his Arizona, remember back in those days, I remember him.
47:56 --> 48:04 [SPEAKER_04]: And so no, it's only other great movies, but people pick things like Can't air as being his best movie or the rock as being his best movie and they're not there.
48:04 --> 48:05 [SPEAKER_04]: They're fun.
48:05 --> 48:06 [SPEAKER_04]: Some are movies.
48:06 --> 48:09 [SPEAKER_04]: He's mental in them, but he has some great stuff.
48:09 --> 48:12 [SPEAKER_04]: Like adaptation that he mentioned, the matchstick man really good movies.
48:13 --> 48:19 [SPEAKER_04]: You know, but he can flux from, you know, Ghost Rider is the last, as the last comment, but movie that he did.
48:19 --> 48:21 [SPEAKER_04]: He's done, it did two of those.
48:21 --> 48:23 [SPEAKER_04]: One of them is absolutely atrocious.
48:24 --> 48:39 [SPEAKER_04]: Just about okay because we had nothing else to watch at the time, and then he was also in that blink and you'll miss a sort of AI camera They put in for that terrible flash movie as well, so you cannot blame the case for that, but
48:40 --> 48:57 [SPEAKER_04]: you just don't know what you're gonna guess and when they when they dropped all eight episodes in a day and there was at limit of promotion on us and they were I thought over egging it would say we have a black and white version and a color version that everybody's gonna watch a twice at those ways so that'll get the ratings up you know it all seemed a little bit too much
48:57 --> 49:01 [SPEAKER_04]: I just did had no impression that it was going to be as great as it is.
49:02 --> 49:04 [SPEAKER_04]: So just like yourself, Cafe Vaca, I'm really impressed.
49:05 --> 49:06 [SPEAKER_04]: I hope it's getting the eyes on it.
49:06 --> 49:09 [SPEAKER_04]: I know the reviews are coming in really, really well on it.
49:09 --> 49:16 [SPEAKER_04]: And I'm hoping just like Wonder Man, it will find its audience and people will turn around and maybe give this a second season of the show.
49:16 --> 49:17 [SPEAKER_04]: A big kind of cool.
49:17 --> 49:19 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, Derek, I have four words for you.
49:19 --> 49:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
49:21 --> 49:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Point-choice it by a comma.
49:23 --> 49:24 [SPEAKER_03]: The rock?
49:25 --> 49:37 [SPEAKER_03]: And face off, I forgot absolutely, you know they are two of my favorite Nicholas Cage action movies Um, absolutely love them.
49:37 --> 49:45 [SPEAKER_03]: So, um, yes, the better off a worse sickness and hell yeah terrible movie terrible movie taste or not
49:46 --> 49:53 [SPEAKER_04]: I do still laugh at the meme every time it's John Travolta's birthday and I have a picture of Nicholas Kates, happy birthday to John Travolta.
49:53 --> 49:53 [SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
49:53 --> 49:57 [SPEAKER_04]: I always think that's a great name, so yes, only what's here.
49:58 --> 49:58 [SPEAKER_04]: It works.
49:59 --> 50:01 [SPEAKER_04]: So thanks for your feedback, coffee vodka.
50:01 --> 50:02 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure we answered your email.
50:03 --> 50:03 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
50:03 --> 50:04 [SPEAKER_04]: To your sense, actually.
50:04 --> 50:04 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
50:05 --> 50:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
50:06 --> 50:06 [SPEAKER_04]: Thanks.
50:09 --> 50:31 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely, at over to discord for Dr. Bob's thoughts on Episode 2, he says main thoughts even better and black and white, wearing a hat while superheroing is in itself an additional skill, so probably means the modern incarnation should show greater respect, split feelings about threatening Janet being the reason for the return of the spider, yes it fits the era and the feel, but could they have avoided the refrigerator girlfriend move?
50:32 --> 50:35 [SPEAKER_04]: and well done finally acknowledging the racism of 30s America.
50:36 --> 50:37 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, great points, Dr. Bob.
50:38 --> 50:43 [SPEAKER_04]: I really like the fact that it's Janet that pushes him over the edge and the fact that Janet is still there as well.
50:44 --> 50:50 [SPEAKER_04]: She stays around, you know, it's not that they've killed her off and that inspires him to take up the spider.
50:51 --> 50:52 [SPEAKER_04]: costume.
50:52 --> 51:02 [SPEAKER_04]: In fact, I suppose they kind of fridge Ruby his fiance at the beginning of the season because that's the reason he gave up being the spider was because of the death of his fiance, right?
51:02 --> 51:06 [SPEAKER_04]: So so slightly different approach that they've taken with this show.
51:07 --> 51:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and I for one, I'm in total agreement with you, Dr. Bob, that wearing a hat whilst whipping through the urban jungle is in itself a very high superhero skill.
51:22 --> 51:24 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess a bit like wearing a cape
51:26 --> 51:40 [SPEAKER_03]: engines or getting it tangled on the staircase as you race up to all course on anything and what was the one thing that was going to be the guy getting the cake cost and the revolving door and then it should be the people he's chasing shoes and the death.
51:41 --> 51:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And again wearing a hat absolutely
51:45 --> 51:47 [SPEAKER_03]: a skill unto itself.
51:47 --> 51:50 [SPEAKER_04]: My personal no prize for why it's staying on his head.
51:50 --> 51:54 [SPEAKER_04]: Have you seen how how strong the webbing that Ben Riley uses is?
51:54 --> 51:57 [SPEAKER_04]: I think he might spray his head and then stick that onto it.
51:57 --> 52:01 [SPEAKER_04]: So it stays on because people can't open doors that he uses his webbing on it.
52:01 --> 52:02 [SPEAKER_04]: This is very, very strong.
52:02 --> 52:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the webbing is really interesting.
52:04 --> 52:05 [SPEAKER_03]: It's almost hairy.
52:13 --> 52:15 [SPEAKER_04]: feels like it would hurt coming out.
52:16 --> 52:20 [SPEAKER_04]: Anyway, it doesn't look as, yeah, it doesn't look as sleek.
52:20 --> 52:21 [SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't.
52:21 --> 52:28 [SPEAKER_03]: It can look a little primordial and like the first iteration of the Spider-Man.
52:29 --> 52:41 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think actually just going to, you know, the, how, you know, the thoughts around World War I, I think that that was just meant to be a coffee in vodka, you know, the soup connection starting to happen.
52:41 --> 52:47 [SPEAKER_03]: I wonder if it's, you know, World War I was known to be the first war that had chemical warfare.
52:48 --> 52:51 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, primarily it was mustard gas and so on, of course.
52:52 --> 53:18 [SPEAKER_04]: all this kind of stuff maybe something to do with that maybe maybe yeah yeah we will see as the season goes on yeah but good stuff thanks Dr Bob for your feedback right to hear your thoughts absolutely yeah great to have the feedback in so far for these first two episodes I have been checking our emails and I've seen that we've got some more emails coming in on the other episodes of the season but if you haven't sent yours in yet you can email us to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com
53:18 --> 53:26 [SPEAKER_04]: with your detailed thoughts on each of the episodes if you want to, or just one for the end of the season, just make sure that you note which episode it's a bite so that we don't read it too early in the season.
53:26 --> 53:43 [SPEAKER_04]: Of course, you can also share your feedback over on Facebook at facebook.com slash groups slash TV podcast industries, spoiler posts up there for each of the eight episodes of Spider Noir season one, and you can also pop over to our discord as well, where there's a spoiler post for at Spider Noir in the Spider Noir section.
53:43 --> 53:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and of course, with all of that, please share the podcast.
53:48 --> 53:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Because sharing the podcast is, of course, sharing the love, yes it is.
53:52 --> 53:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Indeed, it is.
53:53 --> 54:00 [SPEAKER_03]: We will be back next time fellow defenders with our chat about Spider-in-war episode three, double cross.
54:00 --> 54:05 [SPEAKER_03]: So we'd love to get your thoughts in on the show, and it sounds like we've got a few already.
54:06 --> 54:11 [SPEAKER_03]: But until then, fellow defenders, keep watching, keep listening, and of course,
54:12 --> 54:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Keep defending, bye, flip, rip, bye.
