[00:00:00] This is the Boys Season 4 Podcasts on TV Podcasts and we're talking about Season 4 Episode 3 will keep the red flags flying here. You have a father, I've given you everything that I ever wanted and still not good enough for you. Why? You're ungrateful?

[00:00:39] You go behind my back, you lied to me? Why? Why am I not good enough for you? No, it's just butchurch. What? Do you love him so much? When did he get into your dad? No, I don't want him to be my dad, you know what?

[00:01:05] Yes! Welcome back, Boys and Girls. You're listening to TV Podcasts and we're talking about the Boys Season 4 Episode 3, all of your red flags. No, no. It's called Will Keeps The Red Flags flying here. I am one of your hosts. Chris, the ultimate in red flags.

[00:01:49] I am also joined by my Unusual Ghosts. Hello there, fellow Boys and Girls. I am John. The Baptiste. I am your final co-host, Derek. We're doing an epic recording session but we're probably going to break these eggs into three individual episodes.

[00:02:06] So you could listen to them at your leisure in between episode 3 and episode 4, right? Yes, exactly. Because you never know how you wanted Biden or not Biden or Breakdown. Strongly suggest that you like a fine wine. You savor these episodes.

[00:02:24] It's going to be these seven days until you get to the next course in the Boys. Exactly. I will say, I'm sure we've said this about a prime video on how they release their shows. This is my favorite way of releasing a show.

[00:02:37] Where you get three episodes and one go that you can digest and get yourself set up for the season. Then you go into weekly so you can talk about your friends, get every catch, call it home, barbers and every, at talking about it again.

[00:02:47] I'm going to get the weekly discussion for a little while. As somebody shows that have just dropped a drop and left behind. We covered our board of tactics which was all just dumped in one day and was a great show by the end of the season.

[00:02:58] But it was just watched over the weekend and people just forgot so it was even there. Yeah, that fallout I feel was kind of the same. They threw it all in on the prime video, which they don't normally do.

[00:03:06] They put it all out in a day apparently because they thought fans of fallout would work out at the ending on reddish if they put it out weekly. I don't think you can win with that strategy when you put this much money into a show.

[00:03:19] So I'm glad of this strategy for the first time in the year for the boys. My favorite. I think they've learned their lesson on that one. I think season two will definitely be this old school prime video release schedule.

[00:03:33] But we're not here to talk about prior schedule because only the base us in who we trust. I don't know how to retest them. We're glad that he has private video to make these gracious. Exactly.

[00:03:47] In his dollar dollar bill, y'all's the trust because he funds some of the great content that we're coming to discuss right now in this episode, which is a discussion on episode three of the boys in the fourth.

[00:04:00] So Derek, would you want to tell us who gave us what we're wearing and how with the details for this episode? Absolutely. The show winner of course is Eric Kripke. This is based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Derek Robertson.

[00:04:13] The executive producer of the show again, our Seth Rogen and Evan Gilberg. And this episode was written by Ellie Monhan. She wrote episodes of season one and season two and has been in the right team for all three seasons for US fans who may not be aware.

[00:04:26] She's also the daughter of the well-known journalist Katie Kwork. I don't know whether you guys know Katie Kwork. She's a mainstay on TV as a journalist in the US. You'd see her on there.

[00:04:36] I'm morning shows, you see her on new shows all across the US but that's where Ellie Monhan came from. And this episode is directed by Fred Toy. I kind of feel like we should just follow his career when we're picking shows to cover.

[00:04:50] He's been, I think he's done almost every show that we've covered he's done at least one episode. Well most recently he did three episodes of The Excellent Showgun. Such a top quality show.

[00:05:01] If you haven't had the chance to watch it, it's on Disney Plus on Europe and it's on Hulu in the US. Absolutely top quality show in Fred Toy is a brilliant director for that show.

[00:05:09] It's great to see him being able to do a show as in depth and detail as showgun and also doing a show like this. This comic book on realistic worlds like the boys got such a talent with them too. Yeah, absolutely. It's so good.

[00:05:23] And done so much stuff that we've followed. Yeah, I feel like we're going to have this moment where he breaks out does his first movie and he's suddenly going to be up there with some of the big directors out there in movie land. That'd be cool.

[00:05:36] Yeah, wouldn't it be interesting to see what he does? Hey John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with your snops as four? The boys season four episode three. Sure. Home land are in ducks two new members into the seven. Sister Sage and Firecracker.

[00:05:52] And as part of the personnel changes, Sister Sage will effectively become Vort CEO, relegating Ashley to the role of a corporate mascot.

[00:06:02] Meanwhile, Billy Butcher and his old war comrade and CIA contact Joe Kessler had to plan to bring Ryan to their sides in the fight against home lander. And he confronts Firecracker over her anti-starlight rhetoric. Firecracker gives Annie a painful reminder about her own past.

[00:06:22] The deep makes her romantic connection with someone surprising while mothers milk recruits an important new source for intel at Vort. Friends, she gets high to cope with the guilt of lying to Colin while he accompanies Kimico on a mission to confront demons of her own.

[00:06:40] And we get into the Christmas spirit with the spectacular ice skating musical Vort on Ice. Vort on Ice is definitely by favorite moment for Alice and I'm sure we'll get into that as we talk about our protagonist antagonist and outstanding moments from the episode.

[00:07:01] Yes, let us get into the boys moments like kick it off. Do I say, oh, I feel they're puning like vacuum mice. Oh, yeah, and so does Billy Butcher. Yes, full-spole friends, Billy and Ryan connect.

[00:07:26] Yeah, I really enjoyed this and also how they get to the first ball, you know, old school game, but they get through the video game, the the mortal combat,

[00:07:38] the game, the tournament of hero. Yes, where they am obviously online, chat to another in order to meet up on the basis of

[00:07:49] Joe Kessler wanting to try and get bring Ryan into effectively the CIA team, effectively wanting him to become to be recruited and be an asset because he's not an asset.

[00:08:08] Then, you know, we're going to have to figure out how to kill him effectively if he can't train him. Yes, I really, you know, in a sense, you know, is this going against Billy possibly?

[00:08:22] But as he has that contact with Ryan, as they chat about things as Billy sees how really uncomfortable Ryan is. He's certainly over the stuntman, coi that he killed in last episode. You know, they begin to connect here. I mean, you know, Ryan is really quite like upset.

[00:08:50] Yeah, just short. Like he really is. And you know, and Billy has this conflict of whether he's going to recruit him or not, but ultimately he decides really

[00:09:03] to be in a sense to be his dad, his stepdad. And to play this game are all football with his steps on and, you know, Ryan has, in a sense, I like the fact that this triangle of Billy Ryan and

[00:09:24] homeland have got all these questions about themselves. Billy talks about, I have this habit of pushing people away and, but I want to make things right with the one part of your mom who is still alive.

[00:09:39] Yes, great line. Really, really good. And Ryan is like, I wouldn't want to know me if I was anyone else, if I were you, you know, he's so damn awesome. And I guess that comes from home to some degree. Well, yeah, despite all of homeland's providers.

[00:10:00] But we kind of mentioned about last season in Billy but she's treatment of Ryan, the words he said to him to push him away and homeland has been using those words repeatedly over and over again to Ryan, you know, your father hates you father. Thanks, your things.

[00:10:14] Thanks, your nothing over and over again to reinforce and kind of push Ryan to become a molten to become like homeland or so.

[00:10:23] Ryan's heard this so much now that he believes it about himself more than believing that homeland has his back he believes that what Billy but you're said about him was right. I wouldn't want to know me if I was anybody else, you know, it's it's amazing moment.

[00:10:36] And also again to give credit for a car. And we often talk about the funny lines that he says, the big violence moments that he has, but there's a really interesting look on his face when Ryan tells him about killing guy.

[00:10:49] There's a mix of emotions that Carla and gets across here where he's seeing his son going through this massive pain about accidentally killing someone. And he's also got that in his brain that effectively what Billy but your daughter's he goes around and kills soups because they kill humans.

[00:11:06] And it's seeing his son saying to him, I killed human on my first time age. So it feels like there's a little wash that comes across Carla and face kind of going, oh, now you're on my list. You've almost already made it to my list of soups I have to kill to protect the human rights.

[00:11:23] You know, I just thought it was a really interesting. It was a little moment between the two of them there. Beyond that is what it's a hundred percent props to Carla and on this it's he sees that homeowner has talked about

[00:11:37] There nothing humans are nothing they're play things we've talked with us already. He's like don't worry about killing them.

[00:11:45] But your head said similar things in the past not just about soups anyone he killed multiple men like people thinks that he's like you see him wanting to almost perish.

[00:11:55] What homeowner has said which is don't worry it's the you killed him it's fine. I've done it home and everyone does it. And he said something similar to he we he has said that to give you like you have to kill certain people.

[00:12:12] So you could see him wanting to but instead he just does take that fatherly high road. Yeah, yeah and puts the big he's in the bit.

[00:12:24] Yes, yes, he does. They like to like to discuss that he made and it is a really interesting moment where he's trying to convince Ryan to eat the cookies kind of going well the two mothers are asked to be

[00:12:37] And then thanks better of it towards the end you know and and says to him oh I just put too much sugar in them, you know.

[00:12:43] But you could imagine about the discussion between Joe Caster this character play by Jeffrey Morgan in the show here the former colleague of Billy butcher it is interesting the conversation before Billy goes to bring Ryan in is you'll bring him in right and he'll be fine. He'll be safe with you and Joe assures

[00:13:03] and he's not going to use him in the army basically Billy says you wouldn't do that to your own son right and then they come back after Billy is chosen not to take Ryan and have a conversation again and Joe Caster admits actually I'd be perfectly happy if I joined my son joined the fight and if he died I'd be proud of what he did.

[00:13:22] And we will have to choose to either train or kill Ryan so so Joe Caster again just just the reason why I'm saying it is just he's an unshustworthy character even though he's someone from Billy butcher's past he's someone that will again another person and believes life that will say anything to get the job done.

[00:13:39] So it's an interesting little trade of his definitely definitely until we see someone else interact with Joe. I am not a hundred percent that he is there.

[00:13:52] Right it's again because we've seen back up like there and talk actively to him and you could almost see this as two different sides of Billy's fractured psyche right now which is the one who's just there for the government to kill the soups

[00:14:13] the government the CIA trained one and Becca the heart the soul what his was his heart until for butcher. So until I see someone who interact I'm like maybe it may be interesting no and he did walk in exactly the right time.

[00:14:33] Exactly to Billy because he lost the other person who was Mallory who is the person he was going to deliver Ryan to so he comes in exactly the right time a former war buddy. Interesting theory Chris I like it.

[00:14:48] Chris do you have your boys protagonist moment for this episode. I do I want very quickly kind of discuss Annie and she confronts firecracker in the seven terror because it starts the downward spiral that is going to be.

[00:15:11] It is showing that she is him. She is not just that big in the light in the world and that she doesn't want to be that but it also shows we know about star lights. Mom pageant kind of history.

[00:15:30] I don't know say not her mom page her pageant history as a kid in the super pageant kind of the the the circus and her mom pushing her and teaching her to be less than grace.

[00:15:43] Yeah, and we've known about this is what we're starting to see then how she was the different person different and how that's going to literally bite around the ass because we have seen now that firecracker.

[00:16:00] Was ignited by a single moment in her past to basically have a vendetta against honey. Oh for albeit a terrible thing.

[00:16:16] But yeah, just I've had it really into I see one very quick thing I'll say about Aaron is she's really this answer she's really grown into the role of. I need January this year this year in last season where she is now she is portraying.

[00:16:37] Some really deep emotion especially in the sea because you see it like the realization of what it was and then that kind of like.

[00:16:51] Just being broken like she has no comeback. She cannot argue against this absolutely because effectively what brought star light to go and confront firecracker was her going on TV saying that she slept with the seven together positioned the seven and just going to I dare you say that in the put into the public I dare you say that the reason I got there and firecracker rightly is turning around to go you ruined my entire life by saying something exactly the same and I was only 12.

[00:17:18] And from that point onwards everybody treated me like I had done what you told them I done because everybody believes in what you say you know. It was a real truth bomb. Yeah, wasn't it really a real one for the first time for firecracker.

[00:17:33] I think it's a nice little twist, isn't it that in a sense she's she's spouting propaganda most of the time all conspiracies.

[00:17:43] But in this instance this is close to her heart it's personal because it happened to her and it's the truth bomb that star light in a sense doesn't want to hear exactly.

[00:17:56] But should and does yeah, yeah, absolutely should should take it on board you know something that she can't deny that that's that's her in her past you know.

[00:18:06] And so yeah really interesting moment in the episode yeah and those really what I wanted to convene into because I'm interested to see what what they do to the character of kind of star light throughout this is yeah.

[00:18:20] Because they're really starting to push her in towards say like basically standing in front of being star light again. Yeah, I've on the steps after the star light the two star lighters were cleared of basically the deaths of the other the the home landers. Yeah.

[00:18:42] So they're really going to start pushing her and I feel in a way that's going to get the crack fuel.

[00:18:52] Well, absolutely but there's also the other side but again, you know we talk often talk about the show being the political parity you know it's it's that idea that star light is standing up on the opposite side to home lander.

[00:19:02] And I've heard that the people who have murdered people he's destroyed families who killed people all across the world and Annie is the one that standing up against him and she's supposed to be the innocent pure light of the good side versus the evil dark Nazi side of home lander.

[00:19:18] This gets resurfaced in Annie's mind it's just a bad she has done something that she couldn't forgive herself for in her past so it's almost like that the thing we see in politics all the time where we see people trying to challenge.

[00:19:34] Of society saying you don't want them to lead and then something some skeleton pulled out of their closet not near as bad but it's a skeleton and they will.

[00:19:42] Run rather jealous and that's what I feel might happen with Annie there's no resolution here in the episode that that.

[00:19:50] Firecracker will step back and won't continue to push Annie she's telling her I will continue to push this until the world knows that you remain girl and that's what Annie can't. Reconciler self with even though it's nothing as bad as the seven of them.

[00:20:06] I think what's really good about this aspect is that you forget or in this case Annie has forgotten that.

[00:20:22] She used to be like them did bad things she may have refused not to kill people but you know in her own way and when she was younger that idea that yes she is the light but she also has a darkness and they kind of weave in and we've out or you know.

[00:20:44] She's kind of moved away from that darker side of her personality which was selfish which was bullying and so on like that is what firecracker has experienced and has gradually moved and you know into being a better person. I think that's what I think.

[00:21:07] But the revisit of it is that jolt for her which is really good. Yeah she's just standing gets absolutely trashed with a threat in the ad chemical as well.

[00:21:20] And I'm going to move on to my protagonist's point moment because I want to talk about a bit Frenchy and I'm chemical and chemicals taking out her vengeance on a cell that she's found of the shining light in their city.

[00:21:33] I talked about the last episode where you know there's always been this possibility in the back that.

[00:21:39] The co-compe come the plenisher of the boys universe where she has a real reason to go after that after the people that did this tour that the traffic to the country that treated the way they treated her.

[00:21:53] I'm here finding just this small cell of a few people and bringing Frenchy along for backup.

[00:21:59] I think the seamless fantastic because we have another comedy moment along with a very brutally violent moment that the boys just so well we've had you know we've had the cartoon violence in the past.

[00:22:11] We've had the pop at violence in the NGNV which was incredible and here we have Frenchy office face on drugs but while he describes he's high in a slight malange of hallucinogenic.

[00:22:22] But it's so bad he sees her face melting before the fight and then as she hits people we see rubber ducks appearing bubbles appearing everywhere really really full to see that but he has his own meltdown while she's dealing with her past.

[00:22:37] As he's brought into the room with all the people that he's murdered. It's the office building of the boys that he brought into and yeah and Colin is sitting in the middle of this group of his family.

[00:22:50] I'm managing I guess Frenchy for what he's done and then again Frenchy being surrounded by all the people he's killed in the past and another moment with Cherie again saying you know he's off the leash now but how is he going to be able to reconcile what he's done on his past.

[00:23:07] I think this whole scene is I don't know emblematic of what the boys just so well they can have a bit of comedy in here they can have some really obscure hallucinogenic driven jokes and they can also get to the heart of a massive problem for someone with this dark past the Frenchy has and do a great job of balancing it all within a you know a 10 minute see yeah really loved it.

[00:23:33] Exactly the same I think it was some of the best reminiscing for me of happy. The TV show with Pat Noss Walton Coe and where it was basically that cartoonesque very violent part of the same time.

[00:23:48] And we see Pimico with what is thanks stops like about to kill someone who is then pushed off.

[00:23:59] Yeah which again then is going to I think feed into her story that we talked about last week exactly and her healing from the trauma of being kind of human traffic.

[00:24:10] Because Camico escaped from the situation with the shining light so my only theory I guess is the pretty obvious one that this someone that was left behind that Camico didn't come back and safe and they've been left behind within the shining light and blame Camico potentially of what's happened to them.

[00:24:27] So I guess we'll let that's something that will play it for her story for us this season as well. Yeah and it's not our sister so we least know that.

[00:24:34] Yeah yeah that will be even worse if it's suddenly like oh and that's my cousin and that's my uncle twice removed or. Just suddenly it's a real entire family that we're taking from the home village or something.

[00:24:45] Well I know also as well with this we have Frenchies sort of you know hallucinogenic flashbacks as well and I'm earlier on you know he's there in a sense trying to.

[00:24:58] Yes tell Colin they killed his family but it wasn't really work out what is because Colin has seen him disarmed someone. And that pulls a gun at the charity and it's charity.

[00:25:11] Yeah, so but you see him hallucinating with Colin and his dead family and then all the other kills that are the from his days as such.

[00:25:22] Yeah just really good developments for these two characters again get their own story lines for the season so my favorite protagonist moment for the episode. Let's get on to our antagonist moment for this episode or seven moment. Do you know the real heroes? I'm the real hero.

[00:25:40] And with that homeland introduces sister sage and firecracker as new members of the seven. The syrup big moment from the big. And tag the song. Yeah it is because you know I like the fact here that.

[00:25:58] Mother's milk just really get these new appointments or sage and firecracker to the seven certainly I don't think Ashley does but actually soon realizes that she's getting. And he's been promoted to mascot and needs to go ball. I cruddle.

[00:26:18] Yeah, I run on McDonald's and needs to vent this emotion with ball crushing accuracy on Cameron the Vaught News newsletter. Lacky I guess. Lacky yes subversive subversive I should say. The took of Carlson of the Vaught News newsletter. Exactly exactly. And I like here then.

[00:26:44] I mean even sister sage is like, I'm not really happy that I've been exposed here. How am I expected to do a coup with a million eyes on me? She's a little concerned that her cover will have been blown here.

[00:27:00] And that it's punishment for her standing up to home and under as well. And you know I suspect she's 100% right that she is the smartest person on the planet. She is 100% right that this is punishment from home.

[00:27:11] Yeah, you know so but again we have just this whole shake up here. We also do have the deep who has been previously he's been taken away as chief data analyst as well.

[00:27:27] And she is very much on the hunt they know that the footage has been copied from Vaught. Yeah. I all to do with the killing of the homeland as fans and Todd. So you know she's on on the hunt for whoever did that. Okay. Yeah.

[00:27:54] So I think that news is going to start tightening pretty soon. Well that's it definitely you know I just like how the introduction of these two primarily sister sage though at least for this episode.

[00:28:07] The disruption and the chaos that has I love the fact that Ashley is like well I'm going to resign Disney has wanted me. But for the last three years and I'm a girl boss. Exactly. I'm going to work there.

[00:28:25] But in the end she does shred her resignation letter and doesn't resign but this is after one of star lights friends from Vaught has her head laser. Right in front of a killed by homeland after sister sage is brought her in for questioning just to get intel.

[00:28:51] I love the fact that the woman in Ashley's office who's just say yes I do know and star lights. She's trying to even just hide that connection. Yeah.

[00:29:06] Then homeland lasers through the center of the head but she goes yeah star light call me a few days ago a bait and then gets latest in the. Sister sage is do not think the next word would have been useful.

[00:29:18] She already admitted she was against me I killed her there we go. Just so good. I love all this and again homeland is just a fantastic character. And I think we've always said it from season one and she's star just brings great stuff here.

[00:29:39] That's a character whether it's menace threats or just like going off the rails quite frankly as he is doing in this episode. His paranoia and his lack of confidence despite who it is.

[00:29:56] All of that so layered and nuanced is really good by do like this the chaos and disruptions brought about with these two new members of the seven and again Ashley fantastic here. But then you know just love the continuation of the ongoing joke.

[00:30:17] Here's the two new members of the seven that brings us to six who's going to be number seven. I don't know maybe I'm holding it out from my 12 year old son. It's like you're still not the seven colors of the six. That's great. Yeah, really good really good.

[00:30:31] I also want to talk about hope letter in my antagonist moment because we get the fracturing of homeland or once again we've had this before we've had this last season where he's seen himself in a fractured mirror.

[00:30:42] But this time it seems again even more aggressive as things start to you know get out from underneath homeland or where after Ryan returns from meeting a libely.

[00:30:54] Home now is trying to work out what he's doing wrong almost or why is it that Ryan's going to be lying to him again this is a really creepy thing that the homeland does where he goes I know you were there I can smell Billy butcher on you.

[00:31:08] You know there's a really creepy thing about that he throws a glass across the room sending Ryan out of the room and then there's a fracture of all the different versions of homeland or all the different personalities of homeland are talking to him. Not even very nice.

[00:31:24] None of them trying to calm them down all of them trying to get us the keys what will accomplish homeland is real goal.

[00:31:32] Right and get to the core of what homeland is problem is as they see it and the core of that is he seems to have a tendency to need love and that needs to be crushed before he can transcend his human nature and become the greater being that he's supposed to be like wow.

[00:31:51] That's that's someone that will never be aligned with the opposite side right. It's just removed the love from who you are and you will become the greatest being on the planet.

[00:32:03] Yeah, and I mean even just to that point and like you've said you know it's proceeding that it's that. Absolutely anger at his own son Ryan because he can smell butcher.

[00:32:17] You know it's the disgusting thing that and almost just you know the lack of love towards his son. Yeah, you know. And even down to the taking his milk shake away from him on the the other episode.

[00:32:33] But it's only going to get worse right if you lose the most and they say to him that the way to do that is to go back to the start so I guess we're going to be revisiting the lab where he was. Yes, yes, almost.

[00:32:44] Yeah, must be that. They've showed or anti star has been great in showing the fracturing and a home under just throughout the three episodes when something is happening. He can see this almost like twitch.

[00:33:01] And it's been growing in the twitch is growing in the episode what I found spectacular and again it's space. Basically, but it looks fantastic was I think start kind of had these very distinct four different home lenders in that mirror.

[00:33:21] Yeah, like there was the smart me those the scare those the angry like there was very distinct look and feel to each of them emotion. I'm like interesting how they'll play this further.

[00:33:36] Like whether maybe it's a one off, maybe it is just to put can you imagine if they go like joker level crazy. Yeah, in terms of with the home lender character and we I'm think start go go crazy. Well, yes, we'll be amazing to see.

[00:33:54] So right now it's real go on versus me. Yes, that Lord of the Rings moment drive it's that breaking of the the more evil parts of the evil.

[00:34:03] I hear telling him how to be even more evil you know, he just do a great job on it definitely yeah, really good as always from a three star 100% Chris, but yourself. Yeah, I'll tell him very very quick one from me. It's the deep in his romantic connection.

[00:34:22] I find this fun because again, this is the deep taking something that he sees work wants to the street. Yeah. So he has push back on actually and basically was like no, I may charge and he wants to use that new newfound backbone.

[00:34:45] He's going to go use it on Sage. And yet we find her in this weird kind of state where she's eating a blooming onion no offense blooming onions are blooming delicious. There are great. They are amazing and I get it.

[00:35:03] But similar to the McDonald's place when the love yet it feel you know from the FX day has one available in your local area called number now.

[00:35:11] There was a little bit real world promotion in there when they slag off real world promotion so often in the show or fake world promotion in the show. I just thought it was interesting that it sounded like get time to your local epics take it. Right.

[00:35:22] If I was in the state, it would have worked on me because I'd be there already. Yeah, but they do linger as they they start a trist that his his love his octopi love will probably have a problem with They think on a bloody yeah.

[00:35:45] So here else. Yeah, yeah, it was weird. So I'm going to I'm very interested to see what's best because again this is another site sage sage has been kind of standoffish annoying annoyed with everything that is the deep to be fair he is the deep.

[00:36:05] But it's going to be fun to see what how this trist moves forward and does destroy that because he is the smartest person in the world. Yeah, but you then are showing that the smartest person in the world still has sexual needs. Of course.

[00:36:23] I'm probably used to intellect knowing how easy it is to get what she wants. She did that to get the deep in there, but I did wonder about that bloody serenity and that's just what we were doing. They did frame it perfectly.

[00:36:36] Yeah, that was like here's something you're going to find out about in the next two episodes. Five or six. Exactly exactly. So that's it. That's very much my antagonist moment. Fantastic. Fantastic. We'll go on to our last outstanding moments from the episode. Thank you.

[00:36:54] Your five minutes to meet your openings. As regular lessons will know when we haven't talked about one of the massive moments in the episode.

[00:37:03] It's going to appear in our outstanding moment direction or other exciting moments because the big one is the Ice Dance Nightmare for me from the episode. Wow. What a scene. You know, I just simply again thought this is the parody bit.

[00:37:18] We've seen clips of the of the song that they're singing put the Christ back into Christmas, which is just the worst tendency of people whether hear the words happy holidays and to turn on the Miguel. But it's always been Christmas. I don't care where religion you are.

[00:37:35] You should believe in my gods. You should believe in what we believe at Christmas, and I'm care about your religion and turned into a musical by voice. It's just hilarious. It's parody way and again so much like what we see in the real world as well.

[00:37:51] But that's it at the start and Victoria knew it comes down for her photo up with the cast of the Ice Dance. And I was kind of like, oh well that's probably it right there having a meeting here.

[00:38:03] We see M M's there and Hughie comes to be back up for him while they're surveying this meeting between new men and homelander. We learned some really interesting things about the plan in here. Can I talk about those in this section as well? Yeah.

[00:38:18] And a couple of things this is precipitated on the fact that Bob Singer now most likely to be called the next president have brought forward a effectively a superhero management act similar to the MCU superhero registration acts.

[00:38:36] But what he wants to do is bust all superhero back to entertainment. They can no longer be involved in the armed forces. They can no longer be involved anywhere else. They have to go in the mask singer in the future. Really good joke.

[00:38:48] But human of course being a seep wants to take this to homeland or wants to kind of make sure that they're aligned. He brings along his lead strategist now, sister sage to blow wide open the plan.

[00:39:05] The plan here is now they're going to get themselves to the highest position and they're going to kill Bob Singer. Humans are going to take over and ice yourself as a soup and a soup president and they run the world basically.

[00:39:19] And even not very much on site with this. She's been very happy about hiding her identity as a soup in the past and then a drop of sweat. Mission impossible like drops onto the shoulder of homeland or turning into this just absolute

[00:39:37] nightmare which must have been so much fun to come up with in the right of the room. Again it's the creepy thing of homeland we mentioned and saying I can smell Billy Boughtcher

[00:39:48] on you to a sword and hear he's going, now here in free five of them I smell the blood of you. You're terrible. I know I would smell it said anywhere kind of thing and then just lasers everywhere

[00:40:02] in all directions, cutting the actresses playing naiv and half during their final number and then people's ice skates going through next chopping off hands. It's in throw. Yeah it's just brutal but again so much fun. So slow so on the ice rink. They should go.

[00:40:21] And rather than move around the transform. Yes, around the dance floor. That's going to be the other song that Sophia has back to her release 40 years later. The follow up please don't.

[00:40:33] Yeah, I know I loved this it was just so good because it was just this whole thing a world domination killing the president plans and then it just goes absolutely to pass in terms of all these bystanders who are practicing for it on ice and just getting

[00:40:58] killed, slaughtered and so good but he we managing to sort of keep out of range of the lasers whilst he was in the ducting and then he does get a helping hand as well from a very unexpected course.

[00:41:17] Yes he got saved by a train and they're pushed towards him actually helping the ones away very quickly. Yeah, you're like explaining himself or anything like that so yeah it looks like a train is even closer to moving over to their side right? I think so.

[00:41:32] Yeah, I think so. It's partly my point that it's just you know the confirmation that a train really is kind of recruited now as an informer we do hear mothers milk saying that he wants to flip a train in the middle of the train.

[00:41:50] I mean you can see that that's the case and they have that. Making that moment where he says, you know again a train kind of doing the bravado like you know I could sort of I could just drag your face across this

[00:42:08] extra to if in like under three seconds and it's like mothers milk is yeah but the dark bags on your eyes suggest something's keeping you up at night and you know he's still concerned because sister stages on the hunt for the person.

[00:42:26] Yeah, for such but yeah here with him helping hear his scape is probably confirmation I don't think he's double crossing here I think there's too much happened in the other way. He's not used the baseball bats he's kind of annoyed at his autobiography he's feeling

[00:42:51] the loss of his nephews and probably his brother. Yeah, so it's built up. Exactly. Yeah. They've been growing that story for the last. Yes, why? It does this is this whole whole season and it makes sense why they're ending in next season as well.

[00:43:11] Like everything is building on everything they are introducing some of the characters but the characters who are staying around they're building on each of every time of their story. The joke of basically butcher using mothers milk's divorce and the fact that like his ex wife was

[00:43:31] shacking up with a home lander who was probably better and bad they used that and that was all the way back when we were first introduced to mother milk and his ex wife making a joke

[00:43:44] butcher made a joke about their basic not him his OCD not being able to kind of hold the marriage. Yeah. You build all these stories amazing and they changed one of those.

[00:43:56] They started as the a whole and you built them into a character where he has her more than can be flipped. Exactly. Exactly. Very good. Chris, what was your right standing mom to your other ex-stemmed? I just want to go back to Hughie and his mom.

[00:44:12] So again, we have Hughie trying to get the power of returning flipped off his mom that's not going to happen because it was done in faith so he has to learn to live with it.

[00:44:25] And this is going again kind of in similar to what I talked about Hughie's mom being the antagonist for Hughie this season. I think two a degree that is trying to become a bit more solidified in my head. It's a bit weird to us still.

[00:44:41] Like in that it just she has the she seems like that vaught traveling salesman who sells chemistry like rose hips water and beauty products and things like that. She has that case. Yeah. Exactly. I'm so interested to see very much where they are with this. Right. Exactly.

[00:45:07] It's just I don't know if they're just going to have this beautiful magical moment and everything is hunky dory. I don't think that will happen. I must admit when I saw the scene between Hughie and his mother, I felt that kind of diffused

[00:45:20] my idea that idea that we had last time about her being an antagonist for the season because I thought it was an incredibly moving idea and incredibly difficult thing to talk about. It's not talked about very often how many women go through postpartum after having a child.

[00:45:37] And what's talked about even less is what's happened here with his mother. Six years after Hughie's born that you try to take her own life doesn't succeed. Thankfully, and then says it's like for death for me I have to make my choice for myself now.

[00:45:53] I've given him six years and the choices to walk away. Like what a difficult decision for any woman to have made. I was going like, wow, that's a great story arc and a great thing to talk about.

[00:46:06] A great again another boys feature where they bring surface things that nobody wants to talk about in this show that's supposed to be about people punching each other in the face. And I thought it was handled really well.

[00:46:20] And I could see Hughie kind of melting Hughie a bit, kind of going, oh, I've been holding this against you now for 30 odd years that you walked out on me. And left me behind with my dad but he was in a safe place.

[00:46:32] He would be in tech and care about his dad and she knew if she stayed, she'd be dead. So I really liked it. I thought it was, I thought it was a really good moment between two of them.

[00:46:43] No, I look again, I don't completely agree with that. It was touching as how that's the problem. They, I think they melted your walls to that character, much as the walls have been melted for Hughie.

[00:47:03] So when that inevitable double cross or stab comes, it's that much more impactful. You know what I mean, it's basically because he had the wall of heat. Like if you had, if you hadn't of ingratiated this character towards the audience and towards Hughie,

[00:47:23] we already didn't like it because she ran away from her kid. Yeah, absolutely. Now that you've kind of given her very much a very true human side, you, the fall is that much more greater and more painful for Hughie. Right.

[00:47:39] I can ask you the reason I'd say, what do you mean? Oh, because the story makes it makes such more sensationless and kind of interesting story. And just that's it. We understand why she did this and it's good.

[00:47:51] I guess I'm just such a light touch because I was going, okay, I can kind of see it's going to be difficult to get Simon Pegg back very often.

[00:47:57] He's in a coma here. So he's likely not going to come out of that coma. That's what he's been told almost. You know, it's maybe not possible.

[00:48:04] So here's a great way to write Simon Pegg out resolve the issue with Hughie and his mom and now Hughie has got a support system back in his life And they don't have to bring back in Simon Pegg every time they need him.

[00:48:16] But that's the scene. Okay, we'll see. We'll see how that develops threat. So he's been put in. But I thought the acting in this moment and that just vacation is probably the wrong word.

[00:48:28] But her telling her story to her son who's been anger, whose anger has been rising in him for so many years about what he thought was a slice on him.

[00:48:39] And he thought he was to blame. I thought it was just a really well-written scene and it really well-telling scene. Again, a topic that's not talked about enough at all. Yeah. No, okay. That's wait and see. Absolutely.

[00:48:51] Anything else? Any other points or notes about the episode that we haven't talked about? I think the only one I've got kind of relates to and the deep and is romantic connection.

[00:49:00] But it's the flip side of that were and Paul Ambrosius's left in an algal filled tank which hasn't been cleaned for a while. Yeah. And you just see, I guess him moving or at least his triangle.

[00:49:19] This love triangle that is developing unbinance to sister sage and Ambrosius but which may involve all three of them meeting up. Unless that bloody skewer was somehow Ambrosius's blows, I don't know, but more of my cards.

[00:49:38] I don't think so. I think so. Because I'm just thinking, isn't it? No, that's the ink of an octopus like that. I didn't know maybe maybe not but just the fact that she's lamenting in her green fish tank for that.

[00:49:55] Well, we haven't made love in two weeks and you seem to be distant and can you not bring me out of this classic? Can we go on holiday to the car or my family and my cousin's lips? Yes, so you guys.

[00:50:09] Overall, what do we think of the three episode arc here? Guys, what do you think of this as the third episode in the three episode arc? I'm a joven. I absolutely loved it. So well put together that they could have released this in a single episode episode.

[00:50:26] It's enough driving you to go into each episode more. But the way that they have framed the first three very much setting up the remaining season going. I'm like, I still we joke about, sometimes we can see where story lines are going.

[00:50:44] They're going to play out to a degree. This is a bit of a mystery. Like they're really going to places where we don't usually see a lot of these shows.

[00:50:55] For me, it's just I'm strapped in and ready to go. And I'm just like, not all my flags are there. No red flags. Just all green flags go go go go. Excellent. Yeah, really looking forward to next week's episode and really looking forward to us this season.

[00:51:10] It's set up really well throughout the three episodes. There's something going on for every single character. And it's a big cast of characters. Absolutely. All interesting. Yeah, yeah. All right. None of its filler.

[00:51:23] It's all a minute. Yeah, it's really good. Yeah, I mean this episode, I give it four ice crists out of five. And I just really enjoyed it. And I think overall and these firstly have been really really, again, solid and strong and great form action packed tender.

[00:51:43] You name it loads of different things. It's such thought out written directors acted show it's so good. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Excellent stuff. Right time for a pint. Let's get out of the local pub.

[00:51:58] Maybe it's a pig's and access time. Oh, yeah, pig's next. Or maybe some calumar rings. Oh, yes. Fellow quizzes, fellow boys and girls. It is question three for this season's season four of the boys pub quiz.

[00:52:17] So question three. What name was firecracker previously known as? Very good. Very good. That was on the page and circuit with star light. John joining the question more time. What name was firecracker previously known as brilliant. That's question three.

[00:52:37] I've quite a lot of answers together and email them into us at the end of the season two feedback at TV podcast industry.com to be able to chance of getting your hands on some season four.

[00:52:47] Of the boys goodies. And that is the same email address for any feedback that you have on the show. We'd love to hear your thoughts after this epic first couple of episodes.

[00:52:56] I do want to give a quick shout out to one of our followers over on Instagram and then I want to be named.

[00:53:02] But I want to say a huge thank you to them for the last year or so of all of the theories and thoughts that they've had on the boys and gen V has been going along at sending in some really interesting theories on the show keeping me entertained in between each of the seasons.

[00:53:16] So thank you so much. You know who you are and I know your listing so thanks so much for that over the last couple of months. And I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the episodes as well fellow boys and girls.

[00:53:27] Speaking of which, I have some feedback from our wonderful binging boys and girls. Once you've watched the episodes, while I was doing the editing, this is all convinced.

[00:53:36] So thank you very much to those of you who've said to me some of your thoughts on the first three episodes. First up, we got to be a million from Coffee and Vodka on episode one. He says,

[00:53:44] Greetings fellow Aquisid defenders, only the first episode of season four with five yet to be made. And I'm already missing this show. Still glad it's ending on the producers terms with a complete and proper run.

[00:53:54] But with mind of the present, this episode was a great stage setter with the standout scene being tired getting his whilst furthering the dirty trick plot with his demise.

[00:54:03] Sister Sage as the Adrian vice stand in fits fantastically adding tactical stakes and already political and super parod powder keg had to check IMDB to make sure they hadn't recast mothers milk. It looked like he lost height as well as waste though the voice is still the same.

[00:54:18] Speaking of, looked where I could couldn't find who voiced and grossious, though I know that voice any ideas so nice to see the boys back in 10. However, after they may be 4.5 blackbile brains, sage bookbens, sanctuaries and recalcitrant rions age with 5.

[00:54:33] Peace and take care, Coffee and Vodka. Excellent Coffee of Vodka we did mention on the first podcast. Yeah, I brush you a played by the wonderful till the Swinton or on a shocker there that the gutter on board.

[00:54:44] But I'm sure she had lots and lots of fun. Great call out there as well on sister sage being the Adrian vice stand in. That's the super brain of the Watchmen universe. So also had some pretty crazy plans in there in the Watchmen so really cool.

[00:54:58] Yeah, sage as well as on on mothers milk. Yeah, just looks so different even from the clip that they showed on the previously armed at the start of the first episode.

[00:55:06] But it is just the beard. It seems like an a little bit of weight loss or a change as Chris called out.

[00:55:12] I really stuff thanks coffee vodka. I know you've sent on some thoughts on the other two episodes as well, so we'll get to those in a minute. But next up over on our Facebook group, Jerry Lawton said on the first episode it did not disappoint.

[00:55:22] I love the till the Swinton was the voice of a brosius. Yeah, great great stuff in there. Dr. Bob Phillips says, I wonder if the working title for episode one was for the love of tentacles.

[00:55:33] Rapid reintroduction to every floor and sparkle of the main cast loving evil Sherlock. Yes, that's sister sage and keeping deep octopus and the closet as Frenchy French use Colin on the street.

[00:55:44] And we get the ultimate de-loving repair as woman versus tarmac settlers with a one on one draw. I guess that's kind of a landing face first our planting face first in the in the co-crucius. Well, great stuff. Thanks Dr. Bob. Hope you enjoyed the episodes as well.

[00:56:02] On episode two, Jamie Lawton says, yeah, more fun surprise guests are casting with Will Farrell. Yeah, that was a real shocker Will Farrell's doing a great job over the last couple of years of appearing where you just least expect him as me.

[00:56:14] Coffee vodka, you know, the other episode too, I said, Creep, Greepings, fellow ad lib to splattered defenders. There's an undercurrent this season of innocent assumed lost from the word go with Ryan fighting back as well as he's able.

[00:56:26] I'll fight that even Kamiko and Annie lost. Let's see just how deep a cryptic cynicism goes with Ryan's head now on the chopping block.

[00:56:33] This is fun in a quite a dark way homelanders massive ego and insecurity issues as a possible to have both are the clear inroads to much of the shitstorm or no doubt to see arriving soon. Oh, and belated sweet to Jeffrey Dean Morgan's appearance.

[00:56:49] Here's how it's to hoping we'll see more of him that butcher has to find new allies. Although that's what he gets for telling M.M. that he has to be more ruthless to be a leader.

[00:56:59] A train continues to be the series, yo-yo and we'll see what comes of Annie stepping up to lead the forces of her social army this and so much more loving the show as ever.

[00:57:08] Five menora mans, slaughtered multiple men, milk, manhandle butchers and missing mothers, extra five, piece and take care, coffee and vodka. Great points to their coffee and vodka. Really like you're e-mail there. Yeah, great to see you.

[00:57:22] Jeffrey Dean Morgan as we see he's featured in episode three with a kind of a big cliffhanger as to what they will do if they do get Ryan back on the side of Billy Butcher since like they want to turn him into a new soldier boy for their side, which would be an really interesting idea and would be for us to say to the nail by Billy Butcher.

[00:57:43] On top of so three, Jamie Lawton says I feel it's just playing her cards close to her chest, setting her chest pieces up to take Dan home lander. The deep being her first prawn, pardon the pun. I'd like that, Jamie. Very good.

[00:57:55] That's a really interesting suggestion that actually behind it all, sage isn't setting up for home lander to take over the world. She's kind of setting up herself to take over the world.

[00:58:05] I don't make a lot of sense of that. I don't know where sex scene between herself at the deep as we said, we just speculated that everybody has needs.

[00:58:14] Deep's pretty easily manipulated. So why not? But it could easily be that she's manipulated to her side of the plan and knowing that he seems to be the one that you can get to do anything and everything that you want to do.

[00:58:28] Great stuff, thanks, Jamie. Finally, coffee and vodka on episode three says greetings fellow holiday greetings to founders. Nothing from once that a threesome. Good things come to those who wait.

[00:58:38] Speaking of sage words, what was that on the table next to the blooming onion? Where to start is a parody when it's basically cotton paste like in put Christ back in Christmas.

[00:58:48] I'm not complaining just curious. This is the second time but you've taken the high road. Suppose if I better angel was back at I would too, but a strange look for Billy.

[00:58:57] Home lander going back to where it all began. Wondrous is a few former good old students in residence. Any created her own our genemy and the more French changes, the more he stays tuned. So much packed of this episode.

[00:59:09] I think I'll leave it at that other than say, once again, wow. Five Christ's nice obnoxious new hours and fentiful free food full matches. Eight of five piece and take care. Coffee and vodka. I love your ratings as always. Coffee and vodka. Thank you for that.

[00:59:23] And you know there's one thing that you've just called it there that we completely forgot to mention even after nosing us on the first episode that now we have a new person behind the mask of black noir.

[00:59:34] We mentioned it in the first episode that suddenly he's talking and we thought we'd get back to it and then completely forgot the mention after that.

[00:59:40] But I love the comedy of this guy who has no idea the role he's playing and but he's going to play on the instructions that only has to do with standing the suit not talk at all.

[00:59:50] But it's taking every opportunity to talk as a great moment where he's confronted to ask me asking for some motivation here. Why does he not talk?

[00:59:57] What's behind it all? He's not allowed to ask questions, but how is he able to follow people's guidance if they don't give many guidance?

[01:00:04] So I thought that was really interesting so I feel that by the end of the season this black noir will go the same way as the previous black noir. He will probably annoy someone enough to take his head off by the end of the season.

[01:00:17] As for Billy taking the high road, again he feels that Ryan is the last of he has a beca in the world so why wouldn't he go with the boy?

[01:00:25] He's not as ruthless as he would seem in some scenes and show this is someone very closely connected to him.

[01:00:31] Of course the connection with beca as well. So I can see why he would take the high road there and not feed his son the fentanyl-laced cookies as well.

[01:00:41] Excellent stuff that's it for the feedback that we've got in the quick feedback that we got in from our wonderful fellow boys and girls. If you have any thoughts as I said earlier on please email them into us to feedback at tvpodcastindustry.com
