A bit of a change of pace for Lanterns Episode 6 "Bad Optics" as the show returns to the big mystery in 2026. We discuss it all and the huge cameo in full spoiler filled detail.
Lanterns Episode 6 “Bad Optics” Synopsis
Episode Written by: Justin Britt-Gibson and Damon Lindeloff
Episode Directed By: Stephen Williams
In 2026, John Stewart has become an architect and works with his brother Marcus. His mother tells him that the other former Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who has been living in Rushville to make amends for the 2016 incident, wants to apologise to him.
John meets Hal at a café, but they fail to reconcile, and John breaks his nose after Hal goads him about being too afraid to take the ring.
After returning home, John learns from Sheriff Kerry Kane, who began a relationship with Hal, that Hal has been murdered.
John uses a beacon set up by Guy Gardner to summon him to Rushville, where he is met with hostility from Billy Macon Jnr. and the townspeople. A fight breaks out, forcing Kerry to arrest John.
The next day, Guy visits John, who asks him to retrieve Hal's suit and ring for his funeral. Guy also reveals that Sinestro has escaped from prison.
After leaving the station, John encounters Maggie, a waitress from the café, who demands compensation for the damage he caused her family in 2016 or she will tell Kerry that he was the one who broke Hal's nose. After Hal's funeral, John digs up his grave, takes his ring, and with a small top up of power, summons the "Hal-o-gram".

01:22 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_03]: welcome back fellow guardians fellow lanterns this is the lanterns podcast on tv podcast industries and we're talking all about lanterns episode six bad objects i want to view a house John welcome back fellow guardians i am your other host Derek for those lanterns podcast john you know we're recording this podcast tonight and i found it just before we started recording it's 12 years to the day the Gotham premiered
01:47 --> 01:50 [SPEAKER_02]: and Gotham was the first show that we ever podcasted about.
01:50 --> 01:52 [SPEAKER_02]: So we've been podcasting about TV show episodes.
01:53 --> 01:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah for 12 years.
01:54 --> 01:57 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, it's the first two movie episode that we podcasted.
01:57 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:58 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
01:58 --> 01:59 [SPEAKER_02]: No, it doesn't.
02:00 --> 02:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Good stuff, yeah.
02:01 --> 02:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
02:02 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_03]: But we, well, first ever episode we recorded back in February of that year.
02:08 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_02]: That's right, yeah, we were doing our lead-in to Gotham before that, Bosia.
02:12 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Kind of cool that it's a DC show that we're here 12 years later covering an episode of lanterns to show that we never thought would be a TV show because it was always considered to be too expensive to do the show like lanterns.
02:24 --> 02:27 [SPEAKER_02]: And here we are, in a premium HBO show, do this.
02:28 --> 02:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I really missed those days where we used to have 22 episodes of shows at cover of just one show to cover a year.
02:33 --> 02:34 [SPEAKER_02]: That was kind of fun.
02:34 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's true.
02:35 --> 02:44 [SPEAKER_03]: And over 22 episodes, I should say, although sometimes the 22 episodes were like, and no, not just get on with this.
02:44 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Because certainly when it was just like, sort of, you know, it was kind of sprinkled over the course of six months.
02:53 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
02:53 --> 02:54 [SPEAKER_03]: So it
02:55 --> 03:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'd come back sometimes it felt longer and way much more stuff happening than doing three in a week or what's only two in a week like we come back for an episode and then it'd be a break for But I'm months and then I come back for another two episodes and then break for another month.
03:10 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_02]: There's always very odd scheduling for Gotham when it was going on
03:13 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Because the ticks a lifetime to make 22 episodes of it out of the list, absolutely, absolutely.
03:18 --> 03:29 [SPEAKER_03]: But yes, fellow lanterns, we're here for our spoiler-filled discussion about the six episodes of this season of lanterns called Bad Optics.
03:29 --> 03:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Before we get into our spoiler-filled discussion, just a few quick reminders, and
03:34 --> 03:51 [SPEAKER_03]: If you're joining us for the first time, you can go back to the other episodes that we've covered or any episodes on DC that we've covered, whether it's Gotham as we were talking about just there, but also Marvel, there's our movies and all everything in between as well.

04:32 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_03]: We love to get your interaction on the episodes that we cover on the podcast so please
04:45 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_03]: One quick reminder as well.
04:46 --> 04:55 [SPEAKER_03]: We are running the Roshfil Redneck Barquiz as well for this season of lanterns.
04:55 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're on to the sixth question of the pub quiz later on in the episode here.
04:59 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_02]: All you need to do is just send in your correct answers at the end of the series to feedback a TV podcast industry.com and you can be able to chance of getting your hands on some lanterns.
05:08 --> 05:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Goodies.
05:08 --> 05:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Some good ones.
05:09 --> 05:09 [SPEAKER_02]: They're too.
05:10 --> 05:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, let's get on to the episode details.
05:14 --> 05:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Derek, who gave us what we're when and how?
05:17 --> 05:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the showrooms for the show, of course, are Chris Mundi, Demon and Lothan and Tom King.
05:21 --> 05:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Demon and Lothan is the co-writer for this episode, along with Justin Brick Gibson, Justin Brick Gibson, Rob Blastriex episode, and next week as well.
05:28 --> 05:31 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I mentioned Blastriex that he was writing episode 5 and episode 7.
05:31 --> 05:33 [SPEAKER_02]: You guys were talking about it as well.
05:33 --> 05:38 [SPEAKER_02]: and it turns out he also wrote episode six but the credits hadn't been updated last week so my fault.
05:38 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was just right in the two episodes but he got three in a row which is very unusual.
05:43 --> 05:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Damon of course is one of the exact reproducers for this show.
05:46 --> 05:57 [SPEAKER_02]: The episode was directed by Stephen Williams who directed John's flashback episode which was episode three and also directed episodes of Watchman and the last of us as well so we've talked about Stephen quite a lot in the podcast here.
05:58 --> 05:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, excellent stuff.
05:59 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I do think Justin Brickinson probably got quite a tough assignment here.
06:04 --> 06:08 [SPEAKER_03]: It's certainly a change of pace and that's just put it that way.
06:08 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_03]: But still, I ain't really good, but again, it's an interesting shift.
06:14 --> 06:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
06:15 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, there was some of the bits that worked for me, some that didn't.
06:19 --> 06:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
06:20 --> 06:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Interesting, which had all about that when we were going to go into our major points.
06:23 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_02]: But John, do you want to give us your synopsis for Lantring's episode six, Bad Optics?
06:28 --> 06:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Sure, in 2020-26 John Stereus has become an architect and works with his brother Marcus.
06:34 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_03]: There's more that tells him that the other former Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who has been living in Rushfield to make a men's for the 2016 incident, wants to apologise to him.
06:43 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_03]: John meets Hal at a cafe for the fail to reconcile, and John breaks his nose after Hal goes him about being too afraid to take the ring.
06:52 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_03]: After returning home, John learns from Sheriff Kerry Kane, who began a relationship with Hal that Hal has been murdered.
07:00 --> 07:10 [SPEAKER_03]: John uses a beacon set up by Guy Gardner to summon him to Rushville, where he is met with hostility by Billy Macam, Jr. and the Towns people.
07:11 --> 07:14 [SPEAKER_03]: A fight breaks out for him to carry to arrest John.
07:14 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_03]: The next day Guy visits John who asks him to retrieve how suit and ring for his funeral.
07:20 --> 07:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Guy also reveals that Sinestro has escaped from prison.
07:25 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_03]: After leaving the station, John encounters Maggie, a waitress from the cafe, who demands compensation for the damage he caused her family in 2016, or she will tell Kerry that he was the one who broke Hell's nose.
07:37 --> 07:45 [SPEAKER_03]: After Hell's funeral, John digs up his grave, takes his ring, and with a small top of a power, summons the Hallowgram.
07:46 --> 07:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Farewell, how's your ordinary welcome back, Hallowgram?
07:50 --> 07:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Indeed.
07:50 --> 07:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
07:52 --> 07:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Truly is dead.
07:56 --> 07:57 [SPEAKER_03]: or I guess.
07:58 --> 08:02 [SPEAKER_03]: I know we keep saying that, but this felt like he's dead.
08:02 --> 08:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I think the fact that it was delivered through the hologram, I think we can take that as confirmation that he's dead.
08:13 --> 08:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I know, but it's because they keep doing this stuff at the end of episodes as our cliffhires to next week, it makes me go, well if you really was dead, then you'll have a 10 minutes of the episode afterwards, and the hologram will be
08:25 --> 08:31 [SPEAKER_02]: going, oh my god I can't believe I'm the only things surviving of how Jordan had to die and they'd be a whole conversation or something.
08:31 --> 08:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I just feel like there's a couple of things that could possibly be happening here without, which I'm sure we'll talk about, that's the episode because of.
08:39 --> 08:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, definitely.
08:41 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_03]: But let us get into our powering point number one.
08:50 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, not for 10-year gap.
08:54 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, we arrive in 2026 here, 10 years after the incident.
09:01 --> 09:03 [SPEAKER_03]: And actually, not back in Rushville.
09:04 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_03]: We're in Midway City, and we see here John has
09:08 --> 09:23 [SPEAKER_03]: After giving up the ring, has become an architect, has set up an architect firm with his brother Marcus, the Stuart Brothers as a company, and he's trying to sell panic rooms at scale two midway city.
09:24 --> 09:35 [SPEAKER_03]: To counter the possibility of any alien attack, if he does say we don't have our own Superman, so we need to make sure that all our, you know,
09:35 --> 09:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Citizens of Midway are able to go somewhere safe, so he's selling complete and also, you know, superhero proof, super villain proof, and also alien proof, panic rooms for the city to buy.
09:55 --> 10:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're kind of like bunkers, you know, that's that I can put them in, but they're the size of football fields, and there'll be about 40 different ones that he could build with the amount of money that the
10:04 --> 10:07 [SPEAKER_02]: the government give give them for weapons every year.
10:07 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Why you get weapons when you can pull people in safe environment to keep them safe while there's an attack going on.
10:12 --> 10:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I love the little references that we have here.
10:15 --> 10:20 [SPEAKER_02]: As you mentioned, there's a reference to Superman 2025 and the attack that happened in Metropolis.
10:21 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_02]: He also references suicide squad and with the giant, whatever giant starfish is coming out of the ocean.
10:26 --> 10:30 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'd completely forgotten until that moment that that's the suicide squad is
10:31 --> 10:34 [SPEAKER_02]: considered technically part of this new James Goon universe.
10:34 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Of course it is.
10:35 --> 10:36 [SPEAKER_02]: James Goon wrote and directed that one.
10:36 --> 10:38 [SPEAKER_02]: So of course it would be part of this universe.
10:38 --> 10:40 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think that's the first mention we've had of it though.
10:41 --> 10:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
10:41 --> 10:47 [SPEAKER_03]: It connects in with Peace Maker and the animated series as well.
10:48 --> 10:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, speech grandmas.
10:49 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah it's kind of interesting because likewise I've forgotten about that.
10:54 --> 10:57 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah we have him selling his words.
10:57 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_03]: I really actually liked this episode
11:01 --> 11:04 [SPEAKER_03]: the relationship with his brothers.
11:05 --> 11:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Clearly, a more sort of solid relationship with his brother Marcus.
11:11 --> 11:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I really liked that interaction.
11:13 --> 11:16 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was a nice thing to sort of bring back.
11:16 --> 11:20 [SPEAKER_03]: I think could quite easily have just kind of dropped that.
11:21 --> 11:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Not just around John and his brothers, but also it's
11:25 --> 11:39 [SPEAKER_03]: and seems that his dad is finally going to occur home and there's trouble around that as he's not a climatizing well effectively to that care facility that he's in, the nursing home,
11:47 --> 11:48 [SPEAKER_03]: in ten years.
11:48 --> 11:56 [SPEAKER_03]: Burned at the relationship between him and Burned at has has been pretty fraught by the fact that it's broken down exactly.
11:57 --> 12:03 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, nice touch points here sort of connecting into this ten-year gap.
12:03 --> 12:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, yeah, just think it's really interesting as you say.
12:06 --> 12:11 [SPEAKER_02]: You can kind of read between the lines of what's going on, but their brother with the brothers and his parents as well.
12:11 --> 12:19 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's a little bit of me that thinks that while his father's in the care home, and as you say, it sounds like there's been a bit of trouble with him going in the care home.
12:19 --> 12:24 [SPEAKER_02]: It also sounds like he's taking an opportunity because he thinks he can get John to come over to him.
12:24 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_02]: He's saying, yeah, he's saying, you know, well, well, you can't put me in here.
12:27 --> 12:32 [SPEAKER_02]: John has to come and take care of me and then he shoots at a window because the window is in the right shape for him.
12:32 --> 12:35 [SPEAKER_02]: I was being told he's being kicked out and somebody has to come up with a collectum.
12:35 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_02]: So it almost feels like his father is making trouble so that John will come out.
12:40 --> 12:44 [SPEAKER_02]: He makes the nurse in the nursing home contact John.
12:45 --> 12:45 [SPEAKER_02]: only John.
12:46 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_02]: You hear him talking in the background too, or giving her instructions, hoping that John will come back and reconnect with him, but yeah, John's not willing to have any connection with him at all.
12:55 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_02]: You hear him calling his brother Aaron, who interestingly has become a rapper.
12:59 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I really liked that little touch because that was the moment where they were testing John.
13:03 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_02]: The back of the car was to see if he knew rap lyrics, and then Aaron has become a rapper himself.
13:13 --> 13:14 [SPEAKER_02]: your record here.
13:15 --> 13:16 [SPEAKER_02]: You need to go and pick up your father.
13:16 --> 13:18 [SPEAKER_02]: You know what's then there?
13:18 --> 13:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Having a bit of a back and forth about it.
13:20 --> 13:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm saying, but you were always as favored from John's kind of going, no, no, you need to care of him.
13:24 --> 13:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not getting involved.
13:28 --> 13:29 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
13:29 --> 13:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love these little touches just show how time's passed the connection that's there.
13:33 --> 13:37 [SPEAKER_02]: John is not in the same place as he was in 2016.
13:37 --> 13:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Even little things like the quote that we had up front when John's talking to Hal, he's a lot less respectful than he used to be.
13:44 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_02]: He curses a hell of a lot more than he used to.
13:47 --> 13:52 [SPEAKER_02]: As Hal says, I was in prison for 10 years and people there don't, didn't curses as much as you do now.
13:52 --> 13:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
13:53 --> 13:54 [SPEAKER_03]: I really like that.
13:54 --> 13:57 [SPEAKER_03]: I also like his brother's nickname calling him chosen.
13:58 --> 13:59 [SPEAKER_03]: He's like, don't call me that.
14:00 --> 14:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Just kind of rubbing in that sort of sacrifice in a sense.
14:04 --> 14:11 [SPEAKER_03]: So he given that he didn't take the Greenlands and Ring at the end of the last episode.
14:11 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, really interesting.
14:12 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_03]: And again, a lot of this is kind of pepored over the episode.
14:16 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
14:16 --> 14:30 [SPEAKER_03]: And similar to HALs, you know, mainly once the action gets back to Rushville, we start to find out, you know, what HAL was up to, what was happening in that 10 year gap.
14:30 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, primarily it's that HAL went to prison.
14:34 --> 14:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
14:40 --> 14:45 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think this is done really nicely with the cafe connection.
14:45 --> 14:51 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, very early on we have a call from his mom saying that how Jordan effectively wants to apologize.
14:51 --> 14:58 [SPEAKER_03]: And it looks like it comes to a surprise for John Stuart, but ultimately it's that he's
14:59 --> 15:04 [SPEAKER_03]: He's in Rochville now, he's back in Rochville as hell after being in the prison for 10 years.
15:05 --> 15:08 [SPEAKER_03]: And that's really interesting, isn't it like he's, why would he, in prison?
15:08 --> 15:15 [SPEAKER_02]: So he's obviously taking responsibility for the death of Zoe, who got shot in the head, and the older the other people that are killed.
15:15 --> 15:17 [SPEAKER_02]: But what, why was he in prison for all of that?
15:18 --> 15:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Is it because he drew the attack on the 10 because he was the green lantern at the time?
15:25 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's not really explored.
15:28 --> 15:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess this is part of some of my issues with this episode, is that they don't focus on the right things, I think, and a lot of it just seems like he's pinballing it to get to the end bit.
15:45 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_03]: And yes, you get a lot of context of what's happened in the last 10 years, but yes, exactly.
15:51 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_03]: Other than the cafe scene at the start, or you're guessing really is how took the fall for all the death, the killings, whether it was considered to be off-world, or it shouldn't have been done unhandled by the Green Lantern that multiple
16:08 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_03]: people were killed as a result not just aliens you know at the end of the day most of the aliens blew themselves up and the man hunter was killed and there was hearts torn out but everyone was human and that's why I wonder whether he's whether he said that this was just an attack.
16:28 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Or whether he said, you know, I'm responsible for the old, the death that happened in this town of all the humans.
16:33 --> 16:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I just, I don't know what he clearly is.
16:37 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Whatever the guardians may have said, but I'm not sure it really came off in this episode.
16:43 --> 16:46 [SPEAKER_03]: Whether it's coming and going to be dealt with in...
16:48 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_03]: the next two I don't know but to me this feels like we're moving into something that's going to connect him with Sinestra and I prefer them to focus on that and I think this was the opportunity and I just for me I don't think they gave enough exposition with the exception of them
17:08 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_03]: doing it through this confrontation, this agitation at the cafe, where Hal is effectively saying, I took the fall for what happened here for what we did.
17:19 --> 17:22 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I love it when he delivers the line.
17:22 --> 17:24 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not the only killer here.
17:25 --> 17:33 [SPEAKER_03]: It's seemingly that Hal is the one who has all the deaths attributed to him, not the aliens that were going after the man hunter.
17:34 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_03]: how it is.
17:35 --> 17:54 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, certainly the the collateral damage, you know, there was all this death and destruction, but we've not really been told exactly how that went down with the authorities, but it has led to how being in prison, taking a fall, taking the hit for what happened.
17:54 --> 17:57 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's really interesting that John has none of this.
17:57 --> 17:59 [SPEAKER_02]: John's first response to him is,
18:02 --> 18:03 [SPEAKER_02]: This is your fault.
18:03 --> 18:26 [SPEAKER_02]: This is your responsibility You absolutely deserve to be pushing prison for what you did and how's not actually in prison for the full ten years Just realized he he's been back in rushville for quite a while now for a very long time actually for about about three or four years I think He's been back for quite a while I think that's it's like I can't I couldn't quite make it out because
18:30 --> 18:33 [SPEAKER_03]: how ultimately killed an alien.
18:33 --> 18:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So that would be his jurisdiction as a green lantern after the opening episode around terrestrial extraterrestrial jurisdiction.
18:42 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, it's how it's been spun, possibly by the guardians, and to sort of make how fall.
18:51 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I think, but I do think John is very, how ultimately didn't kill anyone.
18:59 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, in that exchange, the lasers were coming from the manhunter's satellite.
19:04 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
19:05 --> 19:12 [SPEAKER_03]: And it was the aliens that were killing people at the... ...making ranch.
19:12 --> 19:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, if the alien that killed William Maken, Mm-hmm.
19:16 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's strong, that put the bulletin.
19:17 --> 19:18 [SPEAKER_03]: So he said?
19:18 --> 19:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
19:18 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And hell's purpose was to capture her and take her back to the Guardian.
19:24 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_03]: So,
19:25 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_03]: It's an interesting kind of juxtaposition here with John Stuart and we certainly didn't really get the full extent as to why that was the case or why how went to prison or as long as he did and I guessing that John Stuart didn't because we've kept out of the record.
19:54 --> 19:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Incident.
19:55 --> 19:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly exactly.
19:56 --> 20:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I am guessing that we will get a little bit more of this story as well What happened in those 10 years now that we have the hologram returns.
20:03 --> 20:06 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I guess we'll get that of the course the next episode I would say so.
20:07 --> 20:16 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, what I really liked here across the episode was just this notion that It was the way Carrie kind of says what he came he stopped knocking on people's doors saying do you want any
20:17 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_03]: handy jobs doing around the house, the garden mowing.
20:21 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
20:21 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I was like, this is like boy scouts where you do an odd job to get some money for the local scout headquarters, whatever, but actually everyone just hates him.
20:32 --> 20:38 [SPEAKER_03]: So how has swallows an awful lot of humble pie for whatever reason to live?
20:39 --> 20:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Back in the community, the town of Roshville where everybody hates him, everyone in the sense won't give him the time of day with the exception of Kerry Kane, who he has formed a relationship, which is another big sort of element to this.
20:58 --> 21:02 [SPEAKER_03]: So, interesting, all these different things.
21:03 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_03]: But as I say, I think for me, it would have been good that this came
21:08 --> 21:20 [SPEAKER_03]: There was a lot of me where there was a lot of convenient, this happens, that happens, then the other thing happens and I know it's more about actually underlying all that.
21:20 --> 21:27 [SPEAKER_03]: I think there's an element that John Stuart wants to say in Rushville in order to understand the mystery that's happened here.
21:29 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_03]: and with, you know, post the cafe scene, um, because, um, John Stuart's called back very quickly, but I think that's more for sort of kicking off our point number two.
21:41 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Uh-huh.
21:41 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_03]: I think the other main thing around this 10 year gap is that Guy Gardner has become, has been given, um, the, the title of Greenland to me.
21:51 --> 21:53 [SPEAKER_03]: So this sector, which includes Earth.
21:53 --> 22:01 [SPEAKER_03]: And the interesting element here, though, is that, in fact, they retire it, how else old ring.
22:01 --> 22:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
22:01 --> 22:04 [SPEAKER_03]: And forged a new one for Guy Garner.
22:04 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_03]: So again, a very different process for how Guy Gardner as a lantern has come into being absolutely.
22:12 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
22:12 --> 22:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
22:13 --> 22:18 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, again, the show cut to go against what it told us was the standard process.
22:18 --> 22:20 [SPEAKER_02]: What I did do, originally it tells you the process is,
22:21 --> 22:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, a great lantern dies of the ring goes to the new green lantern and that's, then they say, oh, the new green lantern can take it off the old green lantern if they just say the oath and they're plugging the ring into the lantern, then they become the new lantern and then they say, oh, well, actually we can retire the old ring and forge a brand new ring and give it to whoever we choose as the new green lantern or maybe they'll have the ring choose a guy gardener.
22:45 --> 22:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, I don't know, but they, they forged a new ring for them, which is a very different
22:51 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, great to have a guy gardener up here in this episode, and I will talk a little bit more about him as we get through the rest of our points.
22:57 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_02]: But again, interesting that this is what's going on in the last 10-year gap.
23:03 --> 23:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Just one final thing I want to mention about the 10-year gap on John being the architect, just think the interactions that we hear across the episode about.
23:11 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_02]: John trying to set up his business.
23:13 --> 23:20 [SPEAKER_02]: He is able to convince the people in midway city to buy into his business.
23:21 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_02]: He seems to be doing a really good job with that, but they need him to go to the military because that's who actually gets the funding.
23:27 --> 23:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a really interesting moment in the episode when John isn't able to turn up to the meeting with the general who is
23:38 --> 23:43 [SPEAKER_02]: and the general hangs up on him when John says, this is the most important day I wish I could be there but I can't.
23:43 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And the general hangs up on him and I was trying to think whether there's two reasons for it.
23:47 --> 23:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Number one, it's completely disrespectful for the general for John.
23:49 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Enough to drop everything to be there with him.
23:52 --> 23:54 [SPEAKER_02]: And then maybe he's found out about John being...
23:56 --> 24:06 [SPEAKER_02]: dishonor but he just charged from the military and then he he won't want to deal with him because he's not high off high open off to know the circumstances with which John was actually discharged from the military.
24:06 --> 24:13 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I thought that was an interesting open question almost as to why John can't get his business off the ground.
24:13 --> 24:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Will this be something that will hear a bit more about and I'd around the series.
24:16 --> 24:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's
24:17 --> 24:21 [SPEAKER_03]: that and it's the tension it brings with Marcus.
24:21 --> 24:26 [SPEAKER_03]: He basically says well you've never left that town.
24:27 --> 24:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Don't come back until you've put it to rest and make sure you don't die in the process as effectively Marx as was when after that John Stuart calls back to say you know I lost the signal drops and he said no he hung up on you.
24:42 --> 25:00 [SPEAKER_03]: and what are you doing and that's all being pepered throughout again the episode where is like why you still there when you're coming back and in the end you know that's the concern that Marcus has is that actually this is all you know
25:02 --> 25:05 [SPEAKER_03]: It is this a serious venture for his brother.
25:05 --> 25:20 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it must be relatively profitable because his house is massively gorgeous and is John Stewart's and he is bankrolling his brother Aaron in producing music.
25:20 --> 25:24 [SPEAKER_03]: So he must have a good architect's business.
25:25 --> 25:26 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I don't say.
25:26 --> 25:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that just this is the kind of the big job that will get them into into a world-class, like the the member of the of the 10 Canceler or whatever it is, the beginning of the city council of the beginning says to him, if you if you land this deal, you can build whatever you want for the rest of your life basically.
25:41 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_02]: It's one of those yes, one last big job basically.
25:44 --> 25:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but again, really interesting.
25:46 --> 25:51 [SPEAKER_02]: This is all tying into the history that we know of John and everything that's happened over the course of the last 10 years
25:54 --> 25:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so we get into our power ring point number two.
25:59 --> 25:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Let's do that.
26:04 --> 26:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, we're rushing back to Rushville because after driving up to me how the cafe driving back after punching him in the nose and because he sort of agitases him too much, he then rushes back to Rushville after getting the call from
26:30 --> 26:57 [SPEAKER_03]: carry who at because how has been found as we saw the start of episode one and covered in snow and with a bullet through the hairs and a broken nose and it's kind of interesting here because carry says the person who broke his nose is probably the person who shot him and you have that really awkward moment where you're like a Gator John you're not going
26:58 --> 27:16 [SPEAKER_03]: you were up here sort of two hours ago three hours ago at trying to get an apology from Hal Jordan who you didn't get it and you caused the broken nose and because yeah, you know with the autopsy and everything the bloods have all gone off
27:17 --> 27:37 [SPEAKER_02]: to forensics and they'll take four weeks so we might have a four-week jump going on here I think it was even four months because the person doing the autopsy bitsy is her name She is not willing to call it any favors at all to rush these so could we could even be four months before she gets his back She doesn't care at all, but
27:37 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_02]: But even she's kind of going.
27:39 --> 27:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's probably the guy that broke those could have been five minutes before him getting shot could have been two hours before him Got shot and you can see John on the back right kind of going But if he does tell her remember again, he is a sniper So that is what he's known for exactly from quite large distances So that would definitely push at the the ring of suspicion on him
27:58 --> 28:17 [SPEAKER_03]: definitely until the autopsy though because that's when Bitsy says actually the gun shop was from close slow to him because she says pardon the pun it was dead on yeah and as in at the same level now I'm trying to think whether she said distance but the way she said it seemed to me that
28:17 --> 28:38 [SPEAKER_03]: the killer was close as he saw the killer and you know it was a close gun shot not to the heads or anything but you know it was on the same level the shot was fired right so um who knows um the interesting thing here just for our fellow lansans is I don't know whether
28:39 --> 28:49 [SPEAKER_03]: like me, you were going, if they're a continuity error happening here, because of course when when John drives up first time, there's no snow.
28:50 --> 28:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Second time, there's a, you know, there's a good layer of snow has happened.
28:55 --> 28:57 [SPEAKER_03]: How has covered in snow as well?
28:57 --> 29:05 [SPEAKER_03]: But I, I did think I was like, is this where they've kind of done stuff out of sequence and they haven't quite kind of matched it
29:07 --> 29:12 [SPEAKER_03]: No, as he's leaving, and there is snow starting to fall outside.
29:12 --> 29:14 [SPEAKER_03]: I'd said the wind of the cafe.
29:14 --> 29:18 [SPEAKER_03]: And so it's not, but I was suddenly thinking, oh God, they've got all the timelines.
29:18 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, what is the timeline for this?
29:21 --> 29:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, is it as a day later, whatever it is?
29:24 --> 29:35 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, or is it as is suggested that he's literally just gotten back from driving down from from Rushfield Yeah, and he's going back up because Kerry's just giving him a call.
29:35 --> 29:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So that that's what they're suggesting here But then suddenly the presence of snow and all that I was like going
29:42 --> 29:44 [SPEAKER_03]: feels like it's a different time of the year and almost.
29:44 --> 29:52 [SPEAKER_03]: But there is no starting to fall outside the cafe window before John hits.
29:52 --> 29:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
29:53 --> 29:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
29:54 --> 30:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Really interesting stuff about that as well, that the punch and the nose, that John gives how.
30:01 --> 30:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Because what how is pushing him
30:09 --> 30:33 [SPEAKER_02]: John has and taken over the ring and taking over the position of Green Lantern he's saying to him you're afraid you're totally afraid now I know why it is that you had to refuse to take on the position of Green Lantern it was your fear and that's what pushes him over the edge and again You know we're not massively into the lore of the lanterns, but we do know that one of the other lantern groups M our rules by fear that is that is
30:34 --> 30:38 [SPEAKER_02]: how they get the, they get their lantern rings, the yellow, the yellow ring.
30:38 --> 30:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And so, why is how so dead set?
30:42 --> 30:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm pushing that button, that specific button with John Stewart, that he's fearful of taking on the ring.
30:48 --> 30:51 [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when he pushes him to, to not break his nose.
30:51 --> 30:55 [SPEAKER_02]: But as John's leaving as well, how pleads with him.
30:56 --> 31:03 [SPEAKER_02]: to not tell anybody, don't reveal it to anybody that he was there in town in Rushville and then he met with Hal.
31:04 --> 31:09 [SPEAKER_02]: The only person that's aware of them meeting is the server and the restaurant Maggie.
31:09 --> 31:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Why is he so dead, Seth, on making sure nobody at all is aware that John Stewart has mess with Hal Jordan?
31:18 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, and I mean, it's a great question.
31:21 --> 31:25 [SPEAKER_03]: It's also explains why John doesn't tell Kerry.
31:26 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_03]: And because of those passing words by Hal Jordan, the reason, yeah.
31:32 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_03]: So, um...
31:34 --> 31:53 [SPEAKER_03]: really interesting maybe again it's because he knew what was coming maybe certainly because he's now got the the bullet to the brain and goes for the autopsy and then it's all really about preparing for the funeral and
31:56 --> 32:11 [SPEAKER_03]: John Stuart's staying up there, so I do kind of like how, you know, the parts of the story unfold here, I think importantly, I think it's quite nice to see that, you know, Earl has been brought up to Rushville by, um...
32:12 --> 32:12 [SPEAKER_03]: John.
32:13 --> 32:18 [SPEAKER_03]: As you were saying, possibly Earl is his only true friend.
32:18 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's really kind of quite touching when it seems as though it's John Stuart who's delivered the news to Earl by being on the phone to someone that of the death of effectively his Potter.
32:34 --> 32:55 [SPEAKER_03]: How children and they made the alien croissants and they're exactly, I don't know, they do a really good job of making your sad for the puppets, it's a really good job No, it is, it's really good And I think you had a really good point around the funeral as well with Paul as well
32:56 --> 32:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was just what I saw online.
32:57 --> 32:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Actually, I will take credit for it.
32:59 --> 33:00 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just, that's it.
33:00 --> 33:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Just one of the comments I saw was why wasn't early invited to the feudal these basically housed only actual friends.
33:06 --> 33:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And everybody else got together that even had any kind of nice things to say about how that was only for people.
33:12 --> 33:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, definitely, and even some of them may not have had nice things to say about that.
33:16 --> 33:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
33:17 --> 33:22 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, this ten is aware of aliens as well, so there's no particular reason why you wouldn't bring her along.
33:22 --> 33:23 [SPEAKER_02]: But at least we know he was taken care of.
33:24 --> 33:27 [SPEAKER_02]: And that remains John's excuse for staying for a few extra days.
33:27 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_02]: He says, well, somebody's got a free daryl, I'll do it.
33:29 --> 33:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly, staying in Hell's place, which is decidedly more lived in than his previous place that John Stuart visited in order to get the lantern.
33:39 --> 33:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I do like the fact that as Carrie suggests,
33:45 --> 33:52 [SPEAKER_03]: he could stay there, and he's effectively told, but don't go through the front door, yes.
33:53 --> 33:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Because it's all rigged up to fire a shop, and if it's opened on all theorists.
33:58 --> 34:04 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, you can see then, you know, he's in a sense, living,
34:07 --> 34:31 [SPEAKER_03]: In fear, so that's an interesting thing and certainly because with the arrival of Guy Gardner and to Rushville that he does inform us here about it around Sinestro because he's escaped as Guy Gardner says from space Kupan as in the space as Kupan And so again, I know the hint to the fact that they're
34:32 --> 34:58 [SPEAKER_03]: trying to push Harry Potter on his old course and or at least the TV version of it and so also it Harry Potter references the season so all of that I mean to be honest what I really liked in terms of references and and puns was the the fortress of storage and where there is a vault it's like oh it's a storage unit and as a vault's been left there by how
34:59 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_03]: And they can't open it using simply the voice from Kerry's voicemail from how I kind of liked how awkward was that.
35:09 --> 35:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's just played that so well.
35:11 --> 35:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Really good.
35:12 --> 35:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm comfortable playing that private message about what is Schnuckum's type sweetie name for her is, which is buttercup, isn't it?
35:22 --> 35:32 [SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, all of this was kind of really, really good, but that's the moment when John decides that he's going to go along with Kerry's plan to have the funeral.
35:32 --> 35:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Isn't this?
35:33 --> 35:37 [SPEAKER_02]: What he sees that he can't get into the storage unit for, for how.
35:37 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_02]: That's what makes me think anyway, that he can't get into the storage unit and then goes, oh, actually, I think have an idea here.
35:44 --> 35:49 [SPEAKER_02]: It makes it sound really plausible that he does want to have a funeral for how Jordan,
35:50 --> 35:58 [SPEAKER_02]: But also he could be just trying to play out this investigation as to who killed him and doesn't really care about at least just trying to get the job done again.
35:58 --> 36:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's interesting now because I'm not entirely sure.
36:01 --> 36:04 [SPEAKER_03]: I think what's happened is John Stuart.
36:04 --> 36:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not in town as sure of his
36:06 --> 36:07 [SPEAKER_03]: genuine feelings.
36:07 --> 36:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I know he dislikes how, and absolutely, but I'm not too sure he's like a complete and is not on empathetic.
36:17 --> 36:20 [SPEAKER_03]: So, but it's just really unclear now.
36:20 --> 36:22 [SPEAKER_03]: So he kind of
36:23 --> 36:44 [SPEAKER_03]: says to carry, look, let's do a funeral, we should bury him because the bitsy, the coroner, has basically said, well, he's got no next to kin, he has no family, so it'll be cremated, and then as far as I'm concerned, he can be flushed down the toilet like a dead goldfish
36:50 --> 36:51 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, he is truly dead.
36:51 --> 36:59 [SPEAKER_03]: There is this tragedy in essence, and John Stewart is advocating that well, he's given a burial.
37:00 --> 37:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
37:01 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_03]: And he's not a goldfish.
37:02 --> 37:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
37:03 --> 37:12 [SPEAKER_03]: And but you're right, it could equally know you said it be well, another plan of ultimately by calling them Guy Gardner.
37:12 --> 37:17 [SPEAKER_03]: And so I thought this was another interesting point around having like the bat signal type thing, the
37:19 --> 37:34 [SPEAKER_02]: and quite specifically just by the way how does call that air as well he says he's ripping off the guy and Gotham who has his symbol he's made himself a lantern signal here to make up for what we did back in 2016 so just a little note there Batman is active in Gotham
37:34 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely.
37:37 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_02]: So while we won't see him in the DC universe for a couple more years We will see Batman 2 before we see him being incorporated into this James Goon universe We know the Batman is out there right now.
37:49 --> 37:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely But on activating it it feels a bit like cue fight with Truck full of red necks.
37:58 --> 38:03 [SPEAKER_03]: It does give a chance to sort of introduce Billy Macon and
38:05 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_03]: carries former husband and it's just before he is off to get food with carry and Noah so we do see an old and Noah here as well and again sort of really
38:21 --> 38:24 [SPEAKER_03]: not probing too much.
38:24 --> 38:28 [SPEAKER_03]: So again, maybe he is spying without making it obvious.
38:28 --> 38:31 [SPEAKER_03]: I know he's listening in, he's getting the facts, he's getting the low down.
38:32 --> 38:35 [SPEAKER_03]: But he certainly is a word that
38:37 --> 38:41 [SPEAKER_03]: his mother and how has a relationship.
38:42 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, he seems slightly not set apart from Kerry, but there's a slight distance here.
38:48 --> 38:55 [SPEAKER_03]: He does something of bringing round a perfectly fitted suit for John Stuart for the funeral.
38:56 --> 39:00 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was weird that he didn't say like my mom says you probably need this for the feud with herself.
39:00 --> 39:09 [SPEAKER_02]: He comes around as if he's thought about herself and he knows John's perfect measurements so here he is at the door.
39:09 --> 39:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's obviously taken the side of Kerry in the divorce between
39:14 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Will he make an end and carry a living with her he he mentions you know that he knows his dad as as trouble So he probably started the fight with John, you know, he knows that so he's not blaming John for the For the situation, but he won't go to house funeral, of course, because well, you know Because of how his grandfather and grandmother are about debt and also as he said it would be weird
39:36 --> 39:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And we do find from the dinner that Kerry cooks for John is that he's no longer a vegan, so he's happy to eat meatloaf.
39:43 --> 39:54 [SPEAKER_03]: He has this food but the call from the deputy basically means that she has to because all the eyes are on her, she has to arrest.
39:55 --> 40:19 [SPEAKER_03]: John Stuart for the fight in the town and it's in prison where again, you know, guy garden meets in the next day and there's, you know, you have this this kind of really awkward moment but I mean, the crux of it is that John is looking to have full lantern armors
40:21 --> 40:36 [SPEAKER_03]: given to Hal Jordan with his uniform, his ring, as I say, that has been decommissioned and also the presence of Guy Gardner at the ceremony at the service as well for Hal's funeral.
40:37 --> 40:42 [SPEAKER_03]: And the only thing is is that Hal's ring is uniform is on over.
40:42 --> 40:45 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, Guy is nervous about
40:48 --> 41:04 [SPEAKER_03]: getting it because he's also not particularly had a good relationship with how children and also he doesn't want to annoy the guardians so he's aware of that how annoyed the guardian so he doesn't want to do that so ultimately and
41:06 --> 41:10 [SPEAKER_03]: It transpires that he does get everything that John asks for here.
41:10 --> 41:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
41:11 --> 41:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
41:11 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
41:12 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_02]: I like the, you know, guys basically telling John, he doesn't want to get involved at all.
41:18 --> 41:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Bad optics as as the name of the episode, he just doesn't want to get involved in this situation.
41:22 --> 41:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Because the lanterns had to recover for a very long time after what happened here in Rochville.
41:26 --> 41:27 [SPEAKER_02]: So, but...
41:28 --> 41:34 [SPEAKER_02]: As John says to him, if I had to take in the ring, which was my original choice, so you wouldn't be the only one that I saw.
41:34 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like that every thing that you are, everything that you've got is because I turn down the ring.
41:39 --> 41:40 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a great moment.
41:40 --> 41:42 [SPEAKER_02]: So he actually does do everything.
41:43 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he goes and gets all the items required.
41:46 --> 42:04 [SPEAKER_03]: But ultimately, so he can be quits with John Stewart, really, and that's what he doesn't really stay for the service, he pays his own respects, as far as we know, and says, my debt is paid to you, it's dumb.
42:04 --> 42:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're done here, Stewie.
42:06 --> 42:06 [SPEAKER_03]: That's this.
42:07 --> 42:11 [SPEAKER_03]: This is that a reference to the family guy that we may be, oh, I'm Stewie cut of that.
42:11 --> 42:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, yeah, absolutely.
42:13 --> 42:22 [SPEAKER_02]: And one last thing really about Rushville, we kind of mentioned Maggie earlier on, the person who'd seen John Punch, Hal and the nose.
42:22 --> 42:26 [SPEAKER_02]: But she's going to blackmail John Stewart with this information.
42:26 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_02]: And quite a specific amount of money if she wants 314, 536 dollars in 27 cents.
42:29 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_02]: That's not your Pope Chris question as a gentleman.
42:35 --> 42:36 [SPEAKER_02]: It certainly isn't.
42:36 --> 42:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, good.
42:37 --> 42:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Good.
42:38 --> 42:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought it might be.
42:39 --> 42:46 [SPEAKER_02]: But she wants to, uh, wants that from him because, uh, that would cover everything that she lost since 2016, because it turns out she's the little girl.
42:47 --> 42:50 [SPEAKER_02]: That's, uh, he picked up a watch and gave to and said, everything's going to be okay.
42:50 --> 42:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, she was nine back then and now she's grown.
42:53 --> 42:55 [SPEAKER_02]: So, uh, and grow it into a, uh, watch fan.
42:56 --> 42:57 [SPEAKER_02]: because of that moment I guess.
42:58 --> 42:59 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess so.
42:59 --> 42:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
42:59 --> 43:03 [SPEAKER_02]: So that was the little girl that was with her father who'd lost his life.
43:03 --> 43:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
43:03 --> 43:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
43:04 --> 43:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
43:04 --> 43:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's exactly it.
43:06 --> 43:07 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, very exact.
43:08 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Very specific.
43:09 --> 43:11 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I was wondering why they did that.
43:11 --> 43:12 [SPEAKER_03]: And now it's here.
43:12 --> 43:15 [SPEAKER_03]: So it's clear why it was in that episode.
43:15 --> 43:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Because there's a repercussion ten years later for John Stewart and a very exact price tag.
43:26 --> 43:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, being put on and, you know, for reparations for damage to her.
43:31 --> 43:37 [SPEAKER_03]: So, um, again, as I say, by Midnight tomorrow, or she's going to tell the sheriff everything.
43:37 --> 43:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
43:38 --> 43:47 [SPEAKER_03]: The other thing just quickly as well, on Noah, is that there's no mention of his grandparents during this episode from him, or even Carrie, no mention.
43:47 --> 43:52 [SPEAKER_03]: It's about her husband, Billy, and it's about what happened in
43:54 --> 43:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Terry and Hal, but there's no notion, not even when talking about Hal, and that
44:00 --> 44:05 [SPEAKER_03]: That's part of the reason why his grandparents would have been killed.
44:05 --> 44:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
44:06 --> 44:16 [SPEAKER_03]: So very interesting emission, I think, there that I wonder how that will play out, but certainly just another little point there on Noah.
44:16 --> 44:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Because the only thing that I'll go out with Noah is that he's about to make a choice for what football team he's going to be going to what college is going to be going to and what football team he's joining himself.
44:25 --> 44:33 [SPEAKER_02]: And that's really highlighted in the episode as well because you have the guy driving by the house when the window is there with John going Which team are you going to pick him, you know?
44:33 --> 44:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I want to tell anybody, you know?
44:35 --> 44:49 [SPEAKER_03]: That's true and also that he wants to get into politics and we talk about the power play of manhomters that they find how they can set themselves gain influence and so on.
44:49 --> 44:53 [SPEAKER_03]: So against being the all-American sports person
44:54 --> 45:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Quarterback going to college looking to be a senator, but ultimately with an eye on the White House It is really what's kind of mentioned here over the dinner table.
45:06 --> 45:13 [SPEAKER_03]: It carries so much to you know very ambitious But I think we should get on to our power ring point number three.
45:13 --> 45:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, let's do it
45:19 --> 45:21 [SPEAKER_03]: it is Hal's funeral.
45:22 --> 45:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, I would say it's funeral goes ahead.
45:25 --> 45:36 [SPEAKER_03]: I think there's a few interesting moments here where John Strowes is given a ulogy by one of his exes, Carol Ferris.
45:39 --> 45:53 [SPEAKER_03]: He assumes it's Carol who has written this one in fact, it is how he wrote the Ulogium self and the Ulogi is for a different venue, shall we say, and a different audience.
45:53 --> 45:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Whilst there's maybe three people in the church for the service as
46:02 --> 46:11 [SPEAKER_03]: as John Stuart reads out the energy that Carol has basically says, it needs a certain sort of off to it.
46:11 --> 46:13 [SPEAKER_03]: You can deliver it, I can't.
46:13 --> 46:23 [SPEAKER_03]: But I love how it starts off with, it kind of lists president and first lazy, terrestrial and non-terrestrial dignitaries.
46:24 --> 46:26 [SPEAKER_03]: So he is assuming that this
46:32 --> 46:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it's interesting by the time it gets to the end and the last couple of paragraphs that he just got a bit of a smile at a John, where he's going Actually, I wrote this whole eulogy is a bit of a joke.
46:41 --> 46:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I just hope I mattered.
46:42 --> 46:50 [SPEAKER_02]: I hope I did help save people He doesn't actually expect at all of those people that he's so he's listed in the opening would actually be at this.
46:50 --> 46:54 [SPEAKER_02]: He probably knows how badly his life has gone by the time he wrote this
46:55 --> 46:57 [SPEAKER_02]: But then again, Carol Ferris, we haven't seen her in the show.
46:57 --> 47:00 [SPEAKER_02]: She's not been mentioned at all in the show.
47:00 --> 47:09 [SPEAKER_02]: If you did watch that absolutely terrible Green Lantern movie or your family comics more likely, Carol Ferris is a partner of how Jordan's.
47:10 --> 47:11 [SPEAKER_02]: She's probably the most well known.
47:12 --> 47:15 [SPEAKER_02]: a partner of his.
47:16 --> 47:21 [SPEAKER_02]: She was played by the wife of the nay wife of Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, who they met on the set of that movie.
47:22 --> 47:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And as he says himself, the movie might be terrible, but it gave him everything in his life.
47:26 --> 47:29 [SPEAKER_02]: So just to mention, that's who Carol Ferris is.
47:29 --> 47:33 [SPEAKER_02]: She's a very important character in comics and in the previous movie.
47:33 --> 47:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm surprised that the only time we see her here is when John Caesar and she
47:41 --> 47:48 [SPEAKER_02]: just as agreed by Hal Jordan as everybody else in their lives have been by Hal Jordan.
47:48 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_02]: So she doesn't look like she has a nice thing to say about him.
47:52 --> 47:56 [SPEAKER_02]: She disappears from the grave site even before John Stewart and Kary Kane do.
47:57 --> 47:59 [SPEAKER_02]: So she kind of just seems to...
48:00 --> 48:06 [SPEAKER_02]: It seems to have been told when I'd give this Yolish to somebody to read at my funeral and that's kind of she lived up to her out of the bargain.
48:06 --> 48:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
48:08 --> 48:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
48:09 --> 48:22 [SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting, actually, after that and before the night time dig, in effect we digging up the body after it's burial, there's a really great image of John Stuart over howl's grave.
48:23 --> 48:30 [SPEAKER_03]: with Kerry walking away from the grave after they've exchanged some final words here.
48:30 --> 48:38 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just a really great image with the sort of setting sun, I think, behind just really, really nice image.
48:38 --> 48:42 [SPEAKER_03]: I think for John Stewart over the grave of, you know,
48:42 --> 48:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Hal Jordan, so yeah, and I liked that shot.
48:45 --> 49:04 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was really nice, but ultimately, you know, cut to night time and we have John Stewart then digging up the coffin effectively in order to get the the ring Hal's former ring in order to activate this Halogram.
49:04 --> 49:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, so which is great.
49:06 --> 49:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I love that kind of element to it and again, it's suddenly like
49:11 --> 49:31 [SPEAKER_03]: I'd love to know if it's all preconceived or whether, you know, he did want the funeral to happen, but it also allowed him to get this in order to kind of get hologram like we're suspecting so that you can open that vault, but equally it is not the old hologram.
49:31 --> 49:33 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a more recent version.
49:38 --> 49:43 [SPEAKER_03]: sort of looked at John looked down at the the coffin containing him.
49:43 --> 49:47 [SPEAKER_03]: It felt like the how who was training John.
49:48 --> 49:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, interesting.
49:49 --> 49:51 [SPEAKER_03]: So I feel he's done some other
49:54 --> 49:57 [SPEAKER_03]: sort of update to them back up to it.
49:57 --> 50:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Which I thought is kind of interesting, but I think so maybe there's some more information that can be gleaned, but I think ultimately the information to be gleaned is in the vault and he needs house voice.
50:09 --> 50:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sir.
50:10 --> 50:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that's that's my feeling as well.
50:12 --> 50:17 [SPEAKER_02]: That's that's what I thought and I don't know There was a moment where I was like hang out on a second.
50:17 --> 50:23 [SPEAKER_02]: There's no way John Stuart done this whole thing so he could just get the green lantern ring and become the green lantern.
50:23 --> 50:27 [SPEAKER_02]: That's in like just steal it there so that the hell's dead, you know?
50:27 --> 50:29 [SPEAKER_02]: But there's no way we go that far apart.
50:29 --> 50:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it seems like he at least wants to get into that vault.
50:31 --> 50:35 [SPEAKER_02]: and maybe he just wants to solve the murder of Hal Jordan, you know?
50:35 --> 50:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely, maybe that's all that is.
50:37 --> 50:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Pusha, yeah, I do like the Hallogram, just looking down at his own dead body basically going cut.
50:44 --> 50:47 [SPEAKER_02]: What a way to wake up, you know?
50:47 --> 50:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Really good.
50:48 --> 50:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I think we went through most of my notes as we went through the episode, but yeah, huge thing that we don't want to miss age is the reveal that Sinestra has escaped from prison as Guy Gardner said.
51:02 --> 51:03 [SPEAKER_02]: who let him free.
51:03 --> 51:13 [SPEAKER_02]: If Hal has been imprisoned and not able to fly up to the prison planet, how did Synaster Ganesha, who helped him escape, was the same person that was informing Synaster, what was happening on Earth, which on Stuart?
51:14 --> 51:19 [SPEAKER_02]: And the last time we saw him on screen, you know, he has connections, but yeah, who freed him?
51:19 --> 51:23 [SPEAKER_02]: And will he play in a big way in the next couple of episodes?
51:23 --> 51:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
51:24 --> 51:27 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, even just the fact that, you know, the shotgun
51:29 --> 51:33 [SPEAKER_03]: the church attached to the front door is suggestive someone living in fear.
51:33 --> 51:36 [SPEAKER_03]: He will, and trying to protect themselves.
51:37 --> 51:45 [SPEAKER_03]: So again, this notion that the ring no longer wants him or fear has started to sort of
51:45 --> 51:52 [SPEAKER_03]: and develop him, which is, you know, it is the method of the yellow lanterns, so who knows?
51:52 --> 52:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, copy that, copy that, I do like the line from carry again, because the show loves to give you another explanation to, you know, hide away some of the things you're saying when we hear that,
52:03 --> 52:12 [SPEAKER_02]: the person who kills him is probably the person that broke his nose and we all know it's drawn the broke his nose and then Carrie just goes, yeah, but everybody in time wanted to break his nose, you know.
52:12 --> 52:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So again, just we think we know how this is going to play out, but they're they love layering in that little extra things that could potentially be part of it.
52:21 --> 52:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So Snaster could possibly be in some way involved in what happened to how which would make sense for the show itself, but they could also be another 50 explanations and we'll only
52:33 --> 52:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, absolutely.
52:35 --> 52:49 [SPEAKER_02]: My one last one, just I noticed in the credits as we were watching the episode a second time that the people that John beats up are listed in the credits as Edie, Meanie, Mindy, and Mo, as they're as they're character names.
52:50 --> 52:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Good stuff.
52:51 --> 52:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Good stuff.
52:51 --> 52:54 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's a charm with her, with her notes and her thoughts for the episode.
52:55 --> 52:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you have a score?
52:56 --> 52:57 [SPEAKER_02]: What would you score this episode?
52:57 --> 52:58 [SPEAKER_03]: And I would give this
53:03 --> 53:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I liked it a lot.
53:06 --> 53:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I think the change of pace maybe really did shock me a bit.
53:12 --> 53:20 [SPEAKER_03]: I think potentially the slow pace of this episode given there's only two more episodes.
53:20 --> 53:20 [SPEAKER_03]: If
53:21 --> 53:30 [SPEAKER_03]: as would appear from the mid-season trailer and you know what people are looking for which is we get some kind of flashback to hell.
53:31 --> 53:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Like I just feel increasingly there's a lot to cram in potentially here and you know if you've given
53:39 --> 53:44 [SPEAKER_03]: five episodes to one side of this story and three to the other.
53:44 --> 53:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I hope they've just given enough time.
53:49 --> 53:57 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't really like to use that as an excuse but I do just some elements of this where I just felt we didn't get enough explanation.
53:58 --> 54:00 [SPEAKER_03]: More than likely we'll come in the next two
54:04 --> 54:16 [SPEAKER_03]: I say pinballing it up to get to the funeral thing, and for me, I think Noah is odd.
54:17 --> 54:20 [SPEAKER_03]: The fight element was strange.
54:23 --> 54:30 [SPEAKER_03]: But overall, I did enjoy job seeing John Stuart's new life with his family and the tensions that still exist.
54:30 --> 54:35 [SPEAKER_03]: I do think Noah is very interesting, a lot of the hints being dropped here.
54:36 --> 54:41 [SPEAKER_03]: I like certainly the pun around the fortress of storage.
54:41 --> 54:42 [SPEAKER_03]: I wish they would stop.
54:43 --> 54:55 [SPEAKER_03]: trying to promote Harry Potter in the D.C. world, and what I basically said about it, and there was another one as well, I think, yes, the sourcing hat at the college.
54:55 --> 54:57 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yep, that's what they said around nowhere.
54:57 --> 55:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, give it a rest, focus on D.C. Harry Potter will have enough sort of people that will want to watch it for various reasons, so let them get on with this.
55:11 --> 55:16 [SPEAKER_03]: So that those bits just took away from this, but overall I do like it.
55:16 --> 55:20 [SPEAKER_03]: I like the fact that Maggie is interesting, you know, it's an interesting little twist.
55:20 --> 55:24 [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't think I thought that was just some random aspect within episode five.
55:24 --> 55:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
55:25 --> 55:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Here we are, asking for a very specific amount of money at Sinestro.
55:31 --> 55:38 [SPEAKER_03]: In fact, a lot of the interesting stuff here were just very short lines around Sinestro escaping.
55:39 --> 56:04 [SPEAKER_03]: And I do like the central conceit around this of John Stewart having sort of asked for this kind of green lantern on his funeral for how on the basis of in essence getting it is probably both reasons and but not only to give him a proper burial but also to get the ring so you can get the hologram.
56:04 --> 56:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I like that central conceit but
56:07 --> 56:21 [SPEAKER_03]: part of me is like I'm not sure about John's motives and so I'm giving the opening scene in the cafe which was really really good, really enjoyed that and yeah there was some really good lean in
56:23 --> 56:39 [SPEAKER_03]: threatening moments here, not just there, but in other parts of, um, I say threatening, yeah, threatening, um, even just John Stewart sort of saying to, to Guy, um, well, the reason you're here is because, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know,
56:39 --> 56:42 [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't take the ring, like, you know, that threat there.
56:42 --> 56:46 [SPEAKER_02]: I've done a certainly changed since we saw him in 2016.
56:46 --> 56:57 [SPEAKER_02]: He's a different person, and, you know, almost as different as how it was to his 2006 counterpart or 1996 counterpart that we saw in the ring, right?
56:57 --> 56:58 [SPEAKER_02]: So those two reasons of how, yeah.
56:59 --> 57:01 [SPEAKER_02]: are very different to these versions of John Stuart.
57:01 --> 57:05 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, even more intrigue for me for the rest of the season.
57:05 --> 57:09 [SPEAKER_02]: One final question for you, John, is you do your wrap-up because we all want to know.
57:10 --> 57:11 [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about it for about five episodes.
57:11 --> 57:13 [SPEAKER_02]: What did you think of Guy Gardner in the show?
57:13 --> 57:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Did you work?
57:14 --> 57:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Did the findaway to make a work?
57:16 --> 57:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think so.
57:18 --> 57:19 [SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
57:19 --> 57:26 [SPEAKER_03]: I think, but again, it's a stupid look, but I think it, I think it did work.
57:28 --> 57:29 [SPEAKER_03]: You got to have him.
57:29 --> 57:32 [SPEAKER_02]: He has the green lantern and we love Nathan Fillian.
57:32 --> 57:37 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I don't know actually love Nathan Fillian, and I do like Guy Garner, but it's the look of him.
57:45 --> 57:47 [SPEAKER_03]: focus on what he was saying.
57:47 --> 57:55 [SPEAKER_03]: I like the little bit of comments do you about being a sports director rather than a gym teacher and that was a point of attention between him and how like that.
57:56 --> 58:00 [SPEAKER_03]: I think just his deployment in Superman just and I I
58:00 --> 58:08 [SPEAKER_03]: It's more because I really like Nathan Philly and it felt just so throw away that it wasn't even really thinking Oh, he's the green lancer anymore.
58:08 --> 58:15 [SPEAKER_03]: I just want to have a silly character that and I like those silly characters in those moments on a James gone thing
58:16 --> 58:18 [SPEAKER_03]: I was like, I just hope it works.
58:19 --> 58:19 [SPEAKER_03]: I think it did.
58:19 --> 58:21 [SPEAKER_03]: I just don't like the luck of him.
58:21 --> 58:25 [SPEAKER_03]: And I hope, you know, I just want Nathan Phillian to be around more.
58:25 --> 58:29 [SPEAKER_03]: And so, I'm hoping it's not the end of his Green Lantern Stintie.
58:29 --> 58:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Don't mention it.
58:30 --> 58:32 [SPEAKER_02]: No, he will be in Man of Tomorrow next year, I believe.
58:33 --> 58:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Grand, excellent stuff.
58:35 --> 58:35 [SPEAKER_03]: Good stuff.
58:35 --> 58:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so for me at four gardeners worlds out of five fantastic We're back in rushville.
58:42 --> 58:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go back to the bar for the rushville redneck bar quiz for a drink Yes, absolutely fellow lanterns fellow guardians and of course fellow quizzes here is question six What's the name of the nursing home where John Stroets father is?
58:59 --> 59:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, interesting
59:00 --> 59:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I want you to like catch that one.
59:03 --> 59:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, hmm.
59:04 --> 59:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I know it's got one less window in the place.
59:06 --> 59:08 [SPEAKER_03]: It's not absolutely certainly does.
59:08 --> 59:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Hahaha.
59:10 --> 59:11 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm doing it because the question one more time?
59:11 --> 59:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, what's the name of the nursing home where John Stewart's father is?
59:16 --> 59:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Fantastic, that is the sixth question of eight questions at the end of the season, send in all the correct answers to feedback at TV, podcastindustries.com, and you can be able to chance of getting your hands on some lanterns, goodies.
59:28 --> 59:34 [SPEAKER_02]: That is the same email address where you send in your thoughts for any of the episodes that we're covering with only another two left to go, and then our wrap-up episode.
59:34 --> 59:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So we want to hear your thoughts as we go through the season.
59:37 --> 59:42 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll first up, we have a message in on Facebook on last week's episode from Drew Wally, you just share this feedback.
59:43 --> 59:46 [SPEAKER_02]: on Episode 5, just after we recorded, so let's start with him.
59:46 --> 59:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, Drew Wally said about Episode 5, I've really been enjoying this show so far, and this episode did not disappoint.
59:55 --> 01:00:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Hard to believe Zoe just standing there watching John Burns, so she could then save him and have him owe her a favor too.
01:00:03 --> 01:00:05 [SPEAKER_03]: The action of the twists were great,
01:00:09 --> 01:00:21 [SPEAKER_03]: We will see with the lone guardian, who seems to be acting all on her own, looking forward to your continued coverage as we head into the final three episodes.
01:00:21 --> 01:00:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Great stuff, Drew, really glad to enjoy the episode 5 Me Too, just a conclusion to that part of the story, that timeline of 2016, really well done.
01:00:35 --> 01:00:41 [SPEAKER_03]: And yes, now we move into the final end game of this, absolutely.
01:00:41 --> 01:00:46 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just a crossfire comic labels over.
01:00:47 --> 01:00:49 [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, really enjoying it too.
01:00:51 --> 01:00:57 [SPEAKER_03]: And yes, some really good action and twists coming along in that fifth episode as well.
01:00:57 --> 01:00:57 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
01:00:58 --> 01:01:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and thanks so much Drew, thanks Drew, and for this episode of Lansons, by email we got some feedback in from Coffee and vodka.
01:01:10 --> 01:01:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Coffee and vodka says greetings fellow well attended defenders.
01:01:14 --> 01:01:20 [SPEAKER_02]: There's something to be said for having one third of your creative team being deathly afraid of plot holes.
01:01:20 --> 01:01:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Guess Lost was able to serve some purpose after all.
01:01:23 --> 01:01:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Words pushed to how Guy phant his green groove, what how and John had been up to the battle lasting aftermath to Rushville and showing the threat of the manhunter's might not be a thing of the past.
01:01:35 --> 01:01:39 [SPEAKER_02]: In addition, we got the threat implicating John and Howl's death, as well as the return of the ring.
01:01:40 --> 01:01:41 [SPEAKER_02]: and the hologram.
01:01:41 --> 01:01:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Now to get them to the storage unit and how's spare charging the lantern.
01:01:45 --> 01:01:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Next week, can I come soon enough?
01:01:47 --> 01:01:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Nice to the online rumours that the haulsacle might not be how themselves lay to rest.
01:01:51 --> 01:01:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Finally, Kerry was great as always, and Guy accidentally fitted the toe of the show.
01:01:56 --> 01:02:04 [SPEAKER_02]: 4.5 regular everyday normal guys, star sapphires, and freed fiends out of 5, coffee vodka.
01:02:04 --> 01:02:13 [SPEAKER_02]: OPS, Marcus telling John that he never really left Rushville, his strained relations with his parents, and a diminished Billy were all masterful touches.
01:02:13 --> 01:02:18 [SPEAKER_02]: If this team doesn't get greenlit to put out another season, there's something seriously wrong.
01:02:18 --> 01:02:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, great stuff, coffee vodka.
01:02:20 --> 01:02:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's really hard with the HBO shows, specifically at the moment, done with every note going on at Marvel on Disney Plus as well.
01:02:29 --> 01:02:37 [SPEAKER_02]: You never really know whether they're aiming for another show of these kind of premium shows or whether they're trying to do something massive over the course of eight episodes and it's a one-off.
01:02:37 --> 01:02:41 [SPEAKER_02]: We got to the end of Watchman thinking, there's no way they're going to do a second season of this.
01:02:41 --> 01:02:47 [SPEAKER_02]: And then there seemed to be talk that they definitely have a plan for a second season, and then that got canceled, there was no plan for it.
01:02:47 --> 01:02:48 [SPEAKER_02]: They ended it there.
01:02:49 --> 01:03:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Here I'm absolutely enjoying loungards every week, but it seems to be so premium that I just don't expect another season to be coming around the corner and then this week We had the announcement of another cancellation of a Disney Cluster to Daredevil season three will be the last season of Daredevil born again next year When we just thought it was just about getting up to speed for it's third and fourth season of the show So it just don't really know, but yes Given how well this is doing and how
01:03:19 --> 01:03:25 [SPEAKER_02]: Many viewers are watching every week, we're up there with Game of Thrones now, with the viewership for the show apparently.
01:03:26 --> 01:03:30 [SPEAKER_02]: You would absolutely expect this would be something they would turn around and do another series of, right?
01:03:31 --> 01:03:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, absolutely.
01:03:32 --> 01:03:39 [SPEAKER_03]: I think for probably most American shows, it's whether they are politically correct to the current White House.
01:03:40 --> 01:03:42 [SPEAKER_03]: And that's the big concern, I mean, you know,
01:03:43 --> 01:03:57 [SPEAKER_03]: And maybe it won't be who knows, but it clearly should get some additional coverage here, I think, and let's hope it does.
01:03:57 --> 01:03:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Because I totally agree with the coffee and vodka.
01:03:59 --> 01:04:01 [SPEAKER_03]: I really enjoyed the sort of...
01:04:01 --> 01:04:08 [SPEAKER_03]: into weaving of Marcus in particular in to John's storyline over the last 10 years.
01:04:09 --> 01:04:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Again, yep, stream relations with the parents, but even also Aaron holding on to, well, you are the chosen one, you know, just because you didn't get it, just because you didn't take it.
01:04:19 --> 01:04:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, this is for you to sort out, you know, you sense the distance that has formed between Aaron and his parents because of how he feels they treated him growing up as opposed to John Stewart, that strain, that tension, you know, ultimately it's only the threat of having his money pulled that said, you know,
01:04:44 --> 01:04:48 [SPEAKER_03]: basically means he will go and try and sort out whatever's going on at the Kerham.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:55 [SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, really great touches there in there for the Stuart family, for sure.
01:04:56 --> 01:05:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, even how I'll have it reiterating, you know, yours has a strange family life to you.
01:05:03 --> 01:05:09 [SPEAKER_03]: to John when he comes up to the catheter to sort of get his non-existent apology.
01:05:09 --> 01:05:15 [SPEAKER_03]: And quite interesting here in that birded out on how they become friends over the years, that the two of them have been in contact with lots of people.
01:05:15 --> 01:05:16 [SPEAKER_02]: That's interesting.
01:05:16 --> 01:05:21 [SPEAKER_02]: But moment where the two of them met in the house, that didn't seem like they were ever going to be friends, did it?
01:05:22 --> 01:05:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Not at all.
01:05:23 --> 01:05:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Not at all.
01:05:24 --> 01:05:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
01:05:25 --> 01:05:27 [SPEAKER_03]: And so, yeah, really, really interesting.
01:05:28 --> 01:05:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
01:05:28 --> 01:05:29 [SPEAKER_03]: And so, great stuff.
01:05:29 --> 01:05:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks, coffee and vodka.
01:05:30 --> 01:05:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
01:05:31 --> 01:05:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, coffee and vodka.
01:05:31 --> 01:05:38 [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't notice that you're in, you're at a five, you mentioned Star Sapphire, which was, which was Carol, the character I mentioned earlier on.
01:05:38 --> 01:05:39 [SPEAKER_02]: That was her superhero name.
01:05:40 --> 01:05:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Excellent.
01:05:40 --> 01:05:41 [SPEAKER_02]: The DC universe.
01:05:41 --> 01:05:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So, nice catch there, coffee and vodka.
01:05:43 --> 01:05:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Great stuff.
01:05:44 --> 01:05:51 [SPEAKER_03]: We also got some feedback over on our Discord fees, power says, not sure what to say about this episode.
01:05:51 --> 01:05:54 [SPEAKER_03]: I feel it lacks something, but I'm not sure what.
01:05:55 --> 01:05:57 [SPEAKER_03]: The acting was excellent, as it has been throughout the series.
01:05:58 --> 01:05:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Guy appearing was interesting.
01:06:00 --> 01:06:03 [SPEAKER_03]: They managed to fit him in even with his stupid hair.
01:06:03 --> 01:06:12 [SPEAKER_03]: It seems like this role was just to get the ring back to John, the whole town other than Kerry Kane wanted Hal dead, but I hope it was something more than a revenge kill.
01:06:12 --> 01:06:13 [SPEAKER_03]: Sinestre may be.
01:06:14 --> 01:06:18 [SPEAKER_03]: I might have missed something but some kind of clue, hook, red herring, would have been good.
01:06:19 --> 01:06:23 [SPEAKER_03]: Looking forward to hear your opinions, three out of five bowl her cuts.
01:06:24 --> 01:06:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks so much, Palo.
01:06:27 --> 01:06:30 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm kind of with you a bit on this.
01:06:30 --> 01:06:34 [SPEAKER_03]: I think there's something intangible that I can't quite put my finger on.
01:06:34 --> 01:06:38 [SPEAKER_03]: I think there's a lot of stuff that I quite like in this episode.
01:06:38 --> 01:06:44 [SPEAKER_03]: I think and that's why I gave it a four, but I totally understand a three out of five.
01:06:44 --> 01:06:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I remember just thinking maybe it's the jaws of the change in pace.
01:06:48 --> 01:06:52 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, five was a big episode and all the
01:06:54 --> 01:07:05 [SPEAKER_03]: It's not even really an investigation, as you say, it's just to get the ring back, and I feel as though things just happened along the way.
01:07:05 --> 01:07:16 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think the only way I feel, or the only two that I feel may have more in it than anything else will be just nowhere being almost slightly off.
01:07:17 --> 01:07:20 [SPEAKER_03]: center within the episode, I think that's purposeful.
01:07:20 --> 01:07:25 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think Maggie is an interesting, you know, whether that's someone being put up to ask for that.
01:07:27 --> 01:07:29 [SPEAKER_03]: And possibly from Noah, who knows, I don't know.
01:07:29 --> 01:07:40 [SPEAKER_03]: And I could like, again, if it's just for reparations, okay, so be it, but it's an interesting kind of thing to have.
01:07:40 --> 01:07:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So I think you're right, there's no
01:07:48 --> 01:07:50 [SPEAKER_03]: bigger clue or hook.
01:07:50 --> 01:07:52 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, as I say, I think it could be sinister.
01:07:52 --> 01:08:01 [SPEAKER_03]: You probably write, I mean, I, I, it's a, it feels like a drop line by by guy, but I suspect it probably isn't.
01:08:01 --> 01:08:09 [SPEAKER_03]: And I kind of like the, the idea that I kind of, I kind of formed for me was that he was living in fear possibly hell.
01:08:10 --> 01:08:11 [SPEAKER_03]: by the end of it.
01:08:12 --> 01:08:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Certainly with the shotgun set up on the front door.
01:08:15 --> 01:08:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
01:08:16 --> 01:08:23 [SPEAKER_02]: And again, the drop line from Carrie that everyone in town wants to kill them anyway, so probably is the shotgun there for that reason is the other side of it.
01:08:23 --> 01:08:27 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, myself and John did talk about it after we watched the episode the first time.
01:08:27 --> 01:08:36 [SPEAKER_02]: This is one of those episodes that is very difficult to give a racing to because until you've seen episode 7 and episode 8, it feels like there's loads of things in here that are...
01:08:37 --> 01:08:41 [SPEAKER_02]: leading out of basically the end of a series, which is all set on episode six.
01:08:41 --> 01:08:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It felt like they were tying up a huge storyline there, but they'd already started this storyline of how being murdered in episode one and they're returning to it and need to set all the pieces in place.
01:08:51 --> 01:08:53 [SPEAKER_02]: How did everybody get to where they are now?
01:08:53 --> 01:08:55 [SPEAKER_02]: How is how in that position?
01:08:55 --> 01:08:57 [SPEAKER_02]: How is John on that position?
01:08:57 --> 01:08:58 [SPEAKER_02]: What was their relationship?
01:08:58 --> 01:09:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And it felt like that whole episode was setting up.
01:09:01 --> 01:09:04 [SPEAKER_02]: all of the pieces for the final two episodes of the show.
01:09:04 --> 01:09:26 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's a very difficult episode to have a review or a score to And I think there's loads more coming in these last two episodes that will you know, I don't think we'll even be thinking and questioning the kind of things Requesting after just watching this episode after what's there the two yeah, I mean, and I think it was a difficult task for the right It's a follow the previous episode, but I think like we talked I mean even just having Carol Ferris there.
01:09:27 --> 01:09:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, just the
01:09:29 --> 01:09:51 [SPEAKER_03]: just lines of dialogue around delivering the ulogy that just said who she was, why she was there and, you know, because, and again, even, you know, this last minute funeral that an ex girlfriend from probably another part of the country has managed to fly whatever to get there.
01:09:52 --> 01:09:54 [SPEAKER_03]: And so, I think that could
01:10:01 --> 01:10:10 [SPEAKER_03]: she's just seemed to be the, in order to hand this ulogy to have that funny moment, great, really good, or issue there for something more, or is it red herring?
01:10:10 --> 01:10:27 [SPEAKER_03]: So I definitely get your point that parallel and I'm glad that I have someone else who maybe had those thoughts around it as well, but I still did enjoy it and I think with a few multiple viewings, I kind of got a bit more
01:10:32 --> 01:10:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, absolutely.
01:10:33 --> 01:10:35 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks so much for your feedback.
01:10:35 --> 01:10:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Thank you to everyone who has sent in their feedback for this episode great stuff and thank you so much fellow lanterns for joining us.
01:10:45 --> 01:10:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Please stay subscribed to the podcast.
01:10:48 --> 01:11:06 [SPEAKER_03]: and of course as we say if you enjoy what you hear please why not share it with your friends family and relatives because of course sharing the podcast is sharing love yes it is absolutely we will back next week for the penultimate episode of Lantern season one maybe
01:11:07 --> 01:11:12 [SPEAKER_02]: That's no looking forward to that and in a couple of weeks time we'll be starting up our chats all the bit vision quest.
01:11:12 --> 01:11:30 [SPEAKER_02]: The new show coming to Disney Plus had a look at the trailer for that this evening really good really intrigued to what's going on in the third part of the of the Marvel trilogy, the start of what one division went into Agatha along and there's closing out with vision quest and really excited to see how that's going to play out.
01:11:31 --> 01:11:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, excellent stuff, um, until next time, fellow lanterns, keep watching, keep listening, and of course keep shining a light.
01:11:39 --> 01:11:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Bye.
01:11:40 --> 01:11:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Bye.
