Executive Producers are Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Destin Daniel Cretton, Andrew Guest

Episode Synopsis:

Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery immediately drive to director Von Kovak's mansion for the callback, joining other actors in the running for Wonder Man and Barnaby.

Exhausted and lacking sleep, Simon is paranoid as the callback begins. Kovak pairs the actors with one another for chemistry tests via improvisational exercises. While Trevor impresses the group, Simon falters with his improv skills. Simon confides in Trevor that he is nervous about Von Kovak pushing him to expose himself, but Trevor encourages him that he is more than his powers.

Simon and Trevor are finally paired together, which impresses Kovak so much he casts them both in the lead roles.

After being dropped off home by Simon, Trevor is picked up by the DODC for failing to apprehend Simon, but Trevor says he's almost there and begs them to give him more time.

01:21 --> 01:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I was going for kind of a hopeful tune as our theme tune.
01:26 --> 01:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's hopeful, but it gets the sense of Simon's lonely with a tinge of sadness.
01:32 --> 01:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, and it is with a tinge of sadness.
01:35 --> 01:39 [SPEAKER_00]: We have to say the Chris had to step out just before we started recording.

01:57 --> 01:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Poonami, Sunami, or something like that?
01:59 --> 02:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, something like that.
02:01 --> 02:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't know what it means, but yes, we wish him all the very best.
02:05 --> 02:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, by the odd to be forever in your favorite place.
02:10 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_00]: But hopefully he will join us for this episode.

02:46 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_01]: We certainly will.
02:47 --> 02:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Where you'll be in with a chance to get your hands on some goodies.
02:52 --> 02:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Wonderman brand is, or not.
02:54 --> 02:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Hope's depending on what we find out there that is,
02:59 --> 03:00 [SPEAKER_01]: series of progress.
03:01 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
03:01 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
03:02 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I did see some awesome branded gear that was given out in promotion.
03:07 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't gorgeous.
03:08 --> 03:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So cool.
03:09 --> 03:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I wish we lived in the States because they all got gear.
03:12 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_00]: They got taken on that.
03:13 --> 03:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, a bus journey around Hollywood, a shown vanko tax house.
03:17 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_00]: All this kind of stuff.
03:19 --> 03:22 [SPEAKER_00]: They got some glasses of cool shades from Wonderman.
03:23 --> 03:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's some awesome stuff that got in the big box.
03:25 --> 03:27 [SPEAKER_00]: We don't get that narrow enough,
03:27 --> 03:29 [SPEAKER_00]: there we don't Disney sought it out.
03:30 --> 03:31 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be great, we'll be great.
03:31 --> 03:35 [SPEAKER_00]: But we will try and get some cool goodies for you.
03:35 --> 03:38 [SPEAKER_00]: If you are the one that gets all the answers right, definitely.
03:39 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, definitely.
03:40 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_01]: And of course, fellow defenders, of course,
03:43 --> 03:59 [SPEAKER_01]: quick reminder that in addition to the email we are over on Facebook with our Facebook group just head on over to facebook.com forward slash groups forward slash TV podcast industries and we are of course on the new platform for us disco.
03:59 --> 04:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's only been around for about 15 years but we've had it for about a month and a half and we'd love you to come and join us over on discord if you're no longer doing some of those other platforms that we're also available
04:13 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_01]: But, Derek, what are some of the episode details for episode 6 of Wonderman?
04:20 --> 04:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, this episode was directed once again by Tiffany Johnson, who directed episode 5 and the episode was written by Raja Castili and Julia Lerman, along with Andrew Guest.
04:28 --> 04:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Now, Raja and Julia Lerman are corrugated for many, many years, and most recently they worked on a just Gordon Levitt's Apple TV show, Mr. Carmen.
04:37 --> 04:37 [SPEAKER_01]: very good.
04:37 --> 04:48 [SPEAKER_00]: And once again another Apple TV show that appears I don't know where and reminds me that the reason why I'm not seeing loads of actors that I really love is because they've all got Apple TV show.
04:48 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I don't have a script of Apple TV.
04:50 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
04:50 --> 04:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I absolutely adore Joseph Gordon Evans since Thur's Rock from the Sun.
04:57 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Love that show.
04:58 --> 05:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Love everything that he's ever done pretty much.
05:06 --> 05:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Where he could have been Robin?
05:08 --> 05:09 [SPEAKER_01]: He could have been Robin?
05:09 --> 05:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
05:10 --> 05:11 [SPEAKER_01]: He's my Robin.
05:11 --> 05:13 [SPEAKER_01]: He's my Robin.
05:13 --> 05:14 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not jealous at all here, John.
05:16 --> 05:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't be.
05:17 --> 05:19 [SPEAKER_01]: We should certainly be guessing more of all five a day.
05:20 --> 05:22 [SPEAKER_01]: If you're on that team station.
05:22 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_00]: So you're telling me to get another subscription to another... Well, that is true.
05:26 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
05:26 --> 05:30 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, many more support on Patreon people.
05:30 --> 05:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Plus, we won't be subscribed.
05:31 --> 05:33 [SPEAKER_00]: But if we do, there's another show to watch out about that.
05:34 --> 05:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Mr. Corbin.
05:35 --> 05:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
05:35 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Over an Apple TV show.
05:36 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_00]: It's quite cool that these are two right and right partners coming to join in the show for this episode.
05:42 --> 05:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, one of the cool things about Wonderman, appealing back the curtain for what goes on in Hollywood.
05:48 --> 05:54 [SPEAKER_00]: It's giving opportunities to people who have all these different perspectives on how their lies went when they joined Hollywood.
05:54 --> 06:01 [SPEAKER_00]: And this episode, particularly, is the most focused, I think, on the business end of Hollywood, isn't it?
06:02 --> 06:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, in terms of, yes, that notion of the the callback and certainly, you know, the crazy director and looking to sort of work his way through his own process.
06:21 --> 06:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I think that's what is kind of interesting here is it's all so far out of Simon's comfort zone.
06:30 --> 06:33 [SPEAKER_00]: It becomes really interesting.
06:33 --> 06:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, absolutely, we will talk all about that in our top three takes, but first John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with your synopsis?
06:39 --> 06:39 [SPEAKER_00]: 4.
06:40 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Marvel's Wonderland Episode 6.
06:42 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Callback.
06:43 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
06:44 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon Williams and Trevor Slastery immediately drive to Director von Kovax mentioned for the callback, joining other actors in the running for Wonderland and Barnaby.
06:54 --> 06:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Exhausted and lacking sleep, Simon is paranoid as the callback begins.
06:59 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Kovac pers the actors with one another for chemistry tests via improvisational exercises.
07:05 --> 07:09 [SPEAKER_01]: While Trevor impresses the group, Simon falters with his improv skills.
07:10 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon confides in Trevor that he is nervous about von Kovac, pushing him to expose himself, but Trevor encourages him that he is more than his powers.
07:20 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon and Trevor are finally paired together, which impresses Kovac so much, he casts them both in the lead roles.
07:28 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_01]: After being dropped off, home by Simon, Trevor is picked up by the DODC for failing to apprehend Simon, but Trevor says he's almost there, and begs them to give him more time.
07:41 --> 07:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, especially now that he knows all about time and pairs, indeed.
07:45 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Does the first time he's talked to Clarice since he saw Simon actually use it?
07:48 --> 07:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, as well.
07:49 --> 07:51 [SPEAKER_00]: So, hmm, very interesting.
07:51 --> 07:56 [SPEAKER_00]: But let us break it down as we usually do with our top three takes from the episode.
07:57 --> 08:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Go on, set, take one, action.
08:02 --> 08:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Cause it's such a rush at the beginning of the episode to get straight out of the vankov exercise.
08:06 --> 08:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I guess we're gonna start there meeting the other actors.
08:09 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_00]: But there's an initial moment of tension when Simon arrived to the house and sees one pair of shoes outside the house and there's one drink.
08:17 --> 08:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Is it a shoes on or a shoes all face?
08:20 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_00]: I quite a great little bit of comedy at the beginning because Simon is stressed about absolutely everything.
08:26 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, when you go for an interview, John, and you're...
08:29 --> 08:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Questioning every single decision that you've made, what you've written on your CV, can you remember everything about it?
08:34 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Is the person that's in there, are they someone that likes coffee or tea?
08:37 --> 08:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Should you bring in something with you or are you going to sell yourself?
08:40 --> 08:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, this is what Simon's going through here.
08:42 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_00]: This is could be the biggest moment of his career and he could mess it up by wearing shoes or not wearing shoes going into this.
08:49 --> 08:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, no absolutely, but I mean, it's interesting isn't it?
08:52 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Because it is set up even in the car on the way over and that Simon's absolutely shattered and tired because he's been up all night with the Chamoli Bros.
09:05 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Jaden and everything like that.
09:08 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_01]: He's stressing.
09:09 --> 09:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's even to the point where you're saying we need to rehearse something spontaneity.
09:14 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_01]: It's such an amazing love.
09:16 --> 09:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but there's the tension there with Trevor.
09:19 --> 09:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon's like, you know, I've...
09:21 --> 09:31 [SPEAKER_01]: He's already convincing himself that he's lost the opportunity of his life because he got caught up in the BS of Trevor with Patrick Connor and everything that happened there.
09:32 --> 09:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I do like that Trevor comes back to him and says, yeah, but you got a good story though.
09:37 --> 09:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Again.
09:37 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_01]: It's Trevor trying to calm Simon down, Simon overthinking, overstressing, over-analyzing, over everything, and now over tires, and so I think it's just really good, and yes, it leads to that wonderful moment of the shoes that the door tests were, you know, there's just one pair outside of these.
09:59 --> 10:00 [SPEAKER_01]: the house.
10:00 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, it's just really nicely played here where you have Simon going, well, there should either be a line of shoes or not at all.
10:12 --> 10:13 [SPEAKER_01]: There shouldn't just be one.
10:13 --> 10:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
10:14 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_01]: And then from KVX assistant opens the door and she's got the long trousers where he can't see whether she's wearing shoes or not.
10:22 --> 10:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And so you have, in effect,
10:25 --> 10:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Tweedled on and Tweedled here where you have Trevor in his shoes and slamming haven't taken off his shoes, walking through the house to realise that not only are they all have their shoes on, one of them has got their shoes on the furniture which is really bad for them.
10:43 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_01]: That's my mother would have said.
10:44 --> 10:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
10:45 --> 10:50 [SPEAKER_00]: I love the Trevor also tells Simon, most importantly, whether you keep your shoes on or off.
10:51 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Most importantly here, just don't show any weird energy.
10:54 --> 10:55 [SPEAKER_00]: That's more important.
10:55 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever way you do it, it's grand, but don't make Von Coveck think you're weird because that will definitely knock at you the job.
11:02 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, they find out that they're not the only people that have gotten the call back everybody That's up for the roles of Wonderman and the Barnaby are here in the house with Vankovak And they're going to be doing a big work-out session I think Vankovak calls us his prison of opulence This massive mansion in Hollywood where they're all going to be stuck together until they work out who gets the roles
11:25 --> 11:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, absolutely, but he calls it my little retreat.
11:29 --> 11:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Everything I love and to test about Hollywood all at once.
11:35 --> 11:38 [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, this is, I mean, this is the consummate outside.
11:38 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I'm guessing Eastern European who has made it is being...
11:47 --> 11:52 [SPEAKER_01]: asked to do this big action movie and he's gonna put his own spin ice and so yeah.
11:52 --> 11:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I love the fact that everything that Voncovac is saying is freaking Simon out.
11:58 --> 11:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh absolutely.
11:59 --> 12:05 [SPEAKER_01]: No this isn't just a simple audition, it's not a reading of lines and this is
12:07 --> 12:09 [SPEAKER_01]: chemistry tests improv.
12:09 --> 12:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It's all these different elements that go beyond just that simple reading the lines to the camera or with the people in the audition.
12:19 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And this kind of, you know, he's seeing hidden meaning and tricks in everything, whether it's the shoes at the door or just
12:33 --> 12:35 [SPEAKER_01]: subconsciousness even.
12:35 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_01]: And again, it's like you were saying it from last episode where they read out the line.
12:41 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_01]: And Thomas telling you the episode or in the series and again we get that here where there's the line of this is not the time for games and riddles.
12:53 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_01]: It's like literally get down to it and do your things.
12:57 --> 12:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
12:58 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_01]: all these games and riddles are just flooding into Simon's mind is absolutely on over time thinking about absolutely and everything.
13:08 --> 13:16 [SPEAKER_00]: I can remember if you go back to the first episode when he had his role on American Horror Story Council, that was three lines and he'd written
13:16 --> 13:21 [SPEAKER_00]: all over the page with all of his ideas that he thought about from just these three or four lines.
13:21 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, this is not a guy that can stand in a room and you throw a line out of him and he throws back a response in character.
13:27 --> 13:33 [SPEAKER_00]: This is a guy that needs to know his character in depth with six months of research, at least that's what he thinks he needs to do.
13:34 --> 13:36 [SPEAKER_00]: And this is what Trevor is trying to work with him on.
13:37 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_00]: All the time is telling him, you know,
13:39 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_00]: that process that you have.
13:40 --> 13:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember, you've never had a big movie before, right?
13:43 --> 13:45 [SPEAKER_00]: So maybe that process has been working for you.
13:45 --> 13:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Go with the flow.
13:47 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_00]: See what you can do.
13:47 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_00]: I love the line that he says to him.
13:49 --> 13:50 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's even in the car earlier.
13:50 --> 13:54 [SPEAKER_00]: All he says, the second will wind will come just open your sails to us.
13:55 --> 13:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, exactly.
13:56 --> 13:58 [SPEAKER_01]: That's so much good advice here.
13:58 --> 14:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think this is the other really nice thing about this whole show.
14:02 --> 14:03 [SPEAKER_01]: It's just
14:04 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, ultimately Trevor is a sneak behind all of this dealing with DODC, where you can see that Trevor is bonding with Simon.
14:12 --> 14:23 [SPEAKER_01]: You can see actually, increasingly, the conflict with Trevor and his role that's being forced on to him by DODC and by Agent Cleary.
14:23 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, whether it is the snapping of the chip, so that there's none of the audio from his mother's, from Simon's mother's birthday,
14:33 --> 14:42 [SPEAKER_01]: whether it's this avoidance of Asian-clearies calls and Trevor here in this moment is wanting Simon to succeed.
14:42 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he wants him to do well and he's giving him all his advice and it's just really, really good that kind of whole mental element and I think that comes through here that I say mental but I actually mean friendship because I think that's what you know that is what
15:01 --> 15:04 [SPEAKER_01]: feeling for Simon is a friendship.
15:05 --> 15:14 [SPEAKER_01]: A shared friendship between the two of them that's happened quite quickly in a four situation for him, but he appreciates it.
15:14 --> 15:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
15:15 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_01]: It's even not just von Kovac, it's the other actors here.
15:20 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_01]: There's the very, very
15:30 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I saw headlines just after this show came out saying Christopher Nolan confirmed in the Marvel Cinemas.
15:35 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, dude, I was like, oh, I got really good.
15:38 --> 15:44 [SPEAKER_00]: And what's even funny here is the other actor, the surf instructor for Paul Thomas Anderson.
15:45 --> 15:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Paul Thomas Anderson is also in the MCU.
15:49 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_00]: But I love him.
15:50 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, we have the quote up front, but just this guy is like the exact opposite of Simon.
15:59 --> 16:03 [SPEAKER_00]: toss surfing to a very famous director and in off the movie he's a natural actor.
16:04 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_00]: There's a great moment when he delivers the line about about games and riddles that Simon's been working on for days and days and Simon looks and goes, damn it he isn't that sure.
16:16 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_00]: That's hilarious.
16:17 --> 16:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It's so good.
16:19 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_00]: And then he isn't the last guy, the Spanish actor, Manuel, who gives his 7-7 word name to Simon and Simon's, like, I'm Simon Williams, we've got down really, really, you know, it's very, very long.
16:32 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_00]: But isn't he also on the mood board?
16:34 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
16:34 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_00]: That Vanko that has created.
16:36 --> 16:45 [SPEAKER_00]: So just that little touch there of another thing that's going against Simon, the person that is up against Trevor for the part of Barnaby.
16:45 --> 16:48 [SPEAKER_00]: is already on the mood board for Vankovak.
16:48 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_00]: He's seeped into his subconscious as Vankovak says.
16:52 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So I love this.
16:53 --> 16:55 [SPEAKER_00]: This is the worst case scenario for Simon.
16:55 --> 17:03 [SPEAKER_00]: If he could be in a booth and read the lines that are given to him and then just be judged on the work that he's done for that role and then be given the role of one man.
17:03 --> 17:04 [SPEAKER_00]: He'd be fine.
17:04 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_00]: But here he is in a situation where they're telling him you have to do lots of different things.
17:09 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
17:10 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to just talk a little bit about Vankovak's mood board.
17:12 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_00]: They get brought into this massive room where
17:15 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_00]: It looks like Covax trying to solve a murder, you know, one of those kind of boards where you put up loads of things.
17:20 --> 17:25 [SPEAKER_00]: And this is his inspiration board for his big superhero movie.
17:26 --> 17:27 [SPEAKER_00]: And guess what's on there, John?
17:27 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_00]: All the Avengers are on there.
17:29 --> 17:30 [SPEAKER_00]: We have Falcon Up there.
17:30 --> 17:31 [SPEAKER_00]: We have Captain America's up there.
17:31 --> 17:33 [SPEAKER_00]: We have Thor.
17:34 --> 17:36 [SPEAKER_00]: We have Shuri and Black Panther up there.
17:37 --> 17:39 [SPEAKER_00]: They're all up on the wall there as inspiration.
17:39 --> 17:44 [SPEAKER_00]: We also see a bit of alien up there saying, you know, this is going to be a space movie.
17:44 --> 17:46 [SPEAKER_00]: So aliens, one of the inspirations for them.
17:46 --> 17:51 [SPEAKER_00]: As I mentioned, Manuel is up there in another role that he was playing.
17:51 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_00]: But there's also things from the Wonderman movie that we saw in the first episode.
17:55 --> 17:58 [SPEAKER_00]: There's bits of that, of course, because he's making the remake of Wonderman.
17:58 --> 17:59 [SPEAKER_00]: So of course, there'll be bits of that.
17:59 --> 18:02 [SPEAKER_00]: But I do love that he has this massive inspiration board in there.
18:03 --> 18:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Up that his movie is going to be absolutely huge and he's been thinking about it very deeply.
18:08 --> 18:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Since he got the idea that this is going to be the movie that brings him out of retirement, right?
18:13 --> 18:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, even to the point that he has his kind of opener intro song for Wonderman, which is Midnight Special.
18:23 --> 18:34 [SPEAKER_01]: And again, I think all of this just layers on more pressure for Simon, because it's like, these are his ideas.
18:34 --> 18:40 [SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of, you know, just he wants to go up against
18:41 --> 18:52 [SPEAKER_01]: brilliant director who has without trying got a huge action movie because he's ultimately an indie movie director at heart.
18:53 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of just really enjoyed how, you know, playing out and you have then Trevor starting to improvise with a trombone on it, which again.
19:05 --> 19:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you just see
19:09 --> 19:12 [SPEAKER_01]: eyes as he's looking at Trevor.
19:12 --> 19:15 [SPEAKER_01]: You know this is freaking you out.
19:15 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just like, I can't do that.
19:17 --> 19:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't have done a trombone in that moment.
19:19 --> 19:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Why is he doing a trombone?
19:21 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm creating something else.
19:22 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
19:23 --> 19:25 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, so it was really really good.
19:25 --> 19:39 [SPEAKER_00]: And to know what it was reminding me of when it was given to the description, von Kovac is saying, you know, this is my song for the opening of the movie, a Korean-Slayer revival, and I especially is playing the song and he's saying, you think you're at it in space, but actually you're focusing in on earth.
19:39 --> 19:43 [SPEAKER_00]: You're actually on our planet earth, and we see our main character.
19:43 --> 19:45 [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder man is on the planet.
19:46 --> 19:49 [SPEAKER_00]: It was reminded me of the opening of Gardens of the Galaxy 2.
19:49 --> 19:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 obviously all the Guardians may be well known for their music, but it's to our size.
19:55 --> 20:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I can space and then we're on Earth with a de-aged Kurt Russell in that opening scene in the 70s with 70s music playing and that's it was reminding me of I was wondering whether they took a bit of a bit of that, it was that what their idea was, the Vunkovic is kind of taking a little bit of the Guardians of the Galaxy there.
20:11 --> 20:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
20:12 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_00]: they'd be characters that you'd have most of Earth wouldn't know after Avengers Endgame, but I wonder if they were taking a little bit of inspiration for a backyard as a galaxy for that scene.
20:22 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
20:23 --> 20:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
20:23 --> 20:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
20:25 --> 20:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
20:25 --> 20:29 [SPEAKER_00]: But that's kind of our opening take on the fellow actors.
20:29 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go into our take number two.
20:32 --> 20:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Take two action.
20:35 --> 20:37 [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll talk a little bit about it already.
20:37 --> 20:49 [SPEAKER_00]: But let's go a bit deeper into our poor little stress silent here in this just that moment where you can tell he's things aren't going well for them at all.
20:50 --> 20:59 [SPEAKER_00]: When Vankov actually looks over and sees everybody saying the lines from the script with each other and just goes, let's throw it the script and start from scratch.
20:59 --> 21:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get past all preconceived notions of eras and gods.
21:03 --> 21:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see where it goes.
21:06 --> 21:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Use the houses you have to perform a scene of whatever you want and then he starts to give them some little inspiration.
21:15 --> 21:23 [SPEAKER_00]: So is it Trevor and Ali are the first to perform a scene and they are
21:23 --> 21:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Trevor is Ollie's wife, who he hates, but actually loves, and Ollie has an old hunting injury.
21:32 --> 21:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Just he has his hands and it's so good, and it's like after they've done it, it's like von K-Rex.
21:39 --> 21:40 [SPEAKER_01]: They're so present.
21:40 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
21:41 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_01]: This is like absolutely effusive about Trevor and Ollie as they make their way around his house with, you know, with that improvisation.
21:52 --> 21:56 [SPEAKER_01]: And then it comes to Simon and Manuel.
21:56 --> 22:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon is not really finding it easy to improvise with Manuel, and ultimately he just goes with a scene from pretty woman, but also starts smashing off all the the crockery to emphasise each of the lines you have Vaughn Covax saying well that's not what
22:17 --> 22:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I was looking for Simon I'm disappointed and I just thought this was really really for me.
22:25 --> 22:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean for me personally, pretty woman.
22:28 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I literally detect with the trash.
22:33 --> 22:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Not because I particularly dislike it.
22:36 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I had to watch it so many times growing up because my sister, as a fan, was a massive fan.
22:47 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was more to do with initially to do with it must have been love, the big soundtrack that came from it.
23:03 --> 23:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I knew so many lines, and then I was just like, I have never watched it again.
23:09 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for like, since I was 14.
23:14 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right.
23:19 --> 23:23 [SPEAKER_00]: So you see Simon delivering these lines, you're going, wow, he's killing this audition.
23:23 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_00]: He's doing such a great job, and then you're going,
23:26 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_00]: something I reckon.
23:27 --> 23:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah exactly.
23:28 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Those lines though.
23:29 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
23:29 --> 23:33 [SPEAKER_00]: This is probably the most famous speech of Julia Roberts' career.
23:33 --> 23:39 [SPEAKER_00]: It's been played over and over again outside of Washington, but I didn't get it instantly that that's what Simon was doing.
23:40 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_00]: And then it was when he says, you made me feel so cheap and I'm going, yeah, that doesn't seem to work very well.
23:46 --> 23:50 [SPEAKER_01]: That was when I got the chills down the spine.
23:50 --> 23:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
23:51 --> 23:55 [SPEAKER_00]: And then he just starts smashing these plates from Vankovic table.
23:55 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's hope that that's specific set in the dining room as part of the pieces that he loads from Hollywood.
24:01 --> 24:04 [SPEAKER_00]: That's part of the problem, both.
24:03 --> 24:28 [SPEAKER_01]: you have Simon sort of blaming Trevor again because he's tired and he can't concentrate for this, but you know he sees that it's not going well and the next pairing seemingly goes even less well or Simon has purged with with riches and I think the improvisation here is that he
24:28 --> 24:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon's past and that Simon's given the instruction they should really go back to that moment, like, longer go.
24:37 --> 24:47 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not necessarily like I didn't really take too many notes around the speech, but it's ultimately the fact that Richard calls Simon
24:46 --> 24:57 [SPEAKER_01]: a freak and persists with this, you know, a freak from school and in the dream and it's just like keeps pushing it.
24:57 --> 25:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yes, he's saying things like he's pretending to be a school made assignments from his past and he's saying things like we all know your secret.
25:05 --> 25:07 [SPEAKER_00]: We've all been talking about behind your back.
25:07 --> 25:08 [SPEAKER_00]: You can't keep it from us.
25:08 --> 25:13 [SPEAKER_00]: We all know you're a freak and then Simon pushes him through his face.
25:13 --> 25:26 [SPEAKER_00]: What a shocking moment and again because Simon's been hiding his powers throughout the series so far other than the the moment of with the drug dealers last episode This felt like maybe the rage had overtaken him.
25:26 --> 25:41 [SPEAKER_01]: He reacted absolutely this felt shocking Really shocking seeing effectively riches head punch through by Simon but also because it's coming from a place where you go
25:41 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is stressing Simon out so much.
25:44 --> 25:46 [SPEAKER_01]: She's lost complete control.
25:46 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
25:47 --> 25:50 [SPEAKER_01]: So it feels like absolutely real.
25:50 --> 26:05 [SPEAKER_01]: And then you see that Simon wakes up from having catnapt, effectively on the seat because he's so tired from all the shenanigans that happen with Esteban and Jaden.
26:05 --> 26:11 [SPEAKER_01]: So like this was really a good little sort of rookpool for me.
26:11 --> 26:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, and I think, you know, we've come into this knowing that this show was going to be a little bit more adults but going to be different from the other MCU shows.
26:18 --> 26:27 [SPEAKER_00]: We've seen almost five seasons of the boys and the boys finishing up this year of massively violent show where this type of stuff happens almost every episode.
26:28 --> 26:31 [SPEAKER_00]: So it did sit with something that could happen in this series.
26:31 --> 26:34 [SPEAKER_00]: So to have that moment where he just wakes up out of his sleep.
26:34 --> 26:42 [SPEAKER_00]: and Vankovak going to, and the person who's trying to impress and most in his entire life, I think Vankovak going to, are we boring you?
26:44 --> 26:48 [SPEAKER_00]: And Simon just going, I just, it's take a minute and go outside to clear his head.
26:49 --> 26:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
26:51 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_01]: And shall we get on to our third take?
26:53 --> 26:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
26:54 --> 26:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Gonna go one last time.
26:56 --> 26:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Take three.
26:58 --> 26:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Action.
26:59 --> 27:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I third and final take is some Simon and Trevor together when the roles.
27:06 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
27:06 --> 27:15 [SPEAKER_00]: So all the pairings that Vanko Beck had done with all the different people in the room, there really is nobody that has more chemistry in that room than Simon and Trevor.
27:15 --> 27:17 [SPEAKER_00]: And the man would even know of themselves.
27:18 --> 27:23 [SPEAKER_00]: But what Simon really needs is the wake-up call that Trevor gives to him.
27:23 --> 27:45 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not about reading lines, it's not about all the things that you're trying to avoid saying about your past, it's everything else about you that makes you the person for this role, it makes you the person that you are, it's showing them all of the past that you've had, not about the Paris, but all the people that you've lost, all the life that you've lived so far and channeling that into a role to show the world.
27:46 --> 27:50 [SPEAKER_00]: the human that is behind the lines that are being given to you.
27:50 --> 27:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Great speech and a great moment that leads the two of them to work together.
27:54 --> 27:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
27:55 --> 28:00 [SPEAKER_01]: I thought this was really, really nice actually, really affecting.
28:00 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, because you have Simon having to take a moment outdoors to kind of
28:04 --> 28:32 [SPEAKER_01]: like at least try to compose himself and it's kind of not working even you know with all the best efforts of Trevor to help him and again you know he's just worried that his real self will show and to him his real self is him with the superpowers that ultimately will get in band from doing this role and yeah I think you have a really touching moment where Trevor kind of
28:34 --> 28:37 [SPEAKER_01]: says, the real you is not your condition.
28:37 --> 28:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I just think that's really, really important.
28:40 --> 28:45 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it, but the sum of your experiences, because I think that can apply to anything.
28:46 --> 28:49 [SPEAKER_01]: So I think there's a really nice moment between these two.
28:49 --> 28:52 [SPEAKER_01]: In this case, with Simon, it's this notion of,
28:53 --> 28:58 [SPEAKER_01]: his powers and what that means to a world where most people don't have them.
28:59 --> 29:07 [SPEAKER_01]: And here, Trevor's like saying, sure, you have powers, but that's only one part of the equation and it makes up what you are.
29:08 --> 29:09 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's
29:10 --> 29:15 [SPEAKER_01]: love, hurt, caring, you know, all that stuff, and he's like, that's your life.
29:15 --> 29:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a mirror up to nature, which he's talked about before.
29:19 --> 29:27 [SPEAKER_01]: This invigorates and inspires Simon to ultimately pull it back from the brink of failure.
29:28 --> 29:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
29:28 --> 29:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And I like how then the
29:32 --> 29:39 [SPEAKER_01]: The lines that they read start outside but end off in doors back in the room with everyone watching, yes.
29:40 --> 29:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a nice little framing of it all, just to show how, you know, when paired together.
29:52 --> 29:55 [SPEAKER_01]: they have outshone all the others there, exactly.
29:56 --> 29:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Which is a really nice kind of notionate.
29:59 --> 30:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It's also that notion of no man's an island, or you know, not only just people are the some of the parts put.
30:08 --> 30:21 [SPEAKER_01]: your part, your part of a greater sum of, you know, community, whether that's family actors, we're trying to work together, whatever it might.
30:21 --> 30:35 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think even Trevor's talking about the audience themselves being part of everybody talks about, you know, we share a pain in grief with the audience and the audience are less alone in theirs, you know, he's talking about that community that you're creating by doing something on screen.
30:35 --> 30:43 [SPEAKER_00]: the way that he's saying it to Simon, and I do feel this is where Ben Kingsley is coming into the role as well.
30:43 --> 30:54 [SPEAKER_00]: We saw a great interview with Ben and I had just there a couple of days ago where they were talking about the fact that they put all of themselves into these roles.
30:54 --> 30:55 [SPEAKER_00]: They found
30:55 --> 31:01 [SPEAKER_00]: What was there in the words and what was there in the direction from Descendino Cretan and from Andrew Guest?
31:01 --> 31:13 [SPEAKER_00]: But they were also bringing pieces of themselves to these roles because they felt so connected to them And you can see that there are moments here where you feel like banking is passing on some of his knowledge to yeah
31:13 --> 31:19 [SPEAKER_00]: at least to the audience, at least to the audience of actors that are there, maybe not, yeah, because he's a very successful actor in his own right.
31:20 --> 31:30 [SPEAKER_00]: But you feel like there's pieces of them speaking through to the audience on the other side, which is a great harnessing of this actor, of these actors.
31:30 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's the thing, it's just like, you know, two people having one and all this
31:39 --> 31:50 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, you have the great elation that where you have von Kovac saying, you know, as they're leaving the his house, they don't quite know whether they've got the role or not.
31:51 --> 32:00 [SPEAKER_01]: But you have von Kovac coming and saying, you know, I was ready to admit to dismiss you Simon, but you are one to man and Trevor, you are my Barnaby.
32:00 --> 32:05 [SPEAKER_01]: And you have this elation, you know, they have the job.
32:05 --> 32:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon is a native for it in his own way and then and of course he's like we're going to make the best movie The last movie ever on earth because no one will have the balls to make another one You know it's like that's great.
32:20 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_01]: So it's all you know it's so like uplifting it's positive it's a nation for Simon and Trevor then is dropped off
32:32 --> 32:52 [SPEAKER_01]: by Simon at his apartment and I love the fact that as he pulls off this black sedan pulls up and it just basically picks up and Trevor chucks him in and you have the Asian Cleary, he's basically saying well you've been avoiding me, you're going back to prison and then Trevor's like nope.
32:52 --> 32:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon is dangerous.
32:54 --> 32:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I can testify, but I need more time.
32:55 --> 32:59 [SPEAKER_01]: It's always like just throwing him onto the boss after all.
32:59 --> 33:04 [SPEAKER_01]: This lovely nurse and you're like, oh no, this isn't going to be good.
33:05 --> 33:08 [SPEAKER_01]: There for Simon when he finds out.
33:09 --> 33:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, Trevor, what are you doing?
33:11 --> 33:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I like how all this built and I'm really over this episode with the auditioning.
33:18 --> 33:19 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, really good stuff.
33:19 --> 33:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, you were right.
33:20 --> 33:32 [SPEAKER_00]: It's so interesting that that's the way Trevor handles Cleary on the other side after having this amazing moments with Simon before hand whether to have them connected so much Trevor somehow, just by being the manager and being arrested.
33:33 --> 33:42 [SPEAKER_00]: But to put the FBI has found themselves in the role and this massive movie that was really a trap to get Simon captured in the beginning, but now Trevor's
33:42 --> 33:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Commissar to this massive role in this massive movie.
33:45 --> 33:48 [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I think this is gonna play.
33:48 --> 33:58 [SPEAKER_00]: I know there's the season goes on But yes, really enjoy this and you know, it'll have the show has changed it for me, you know, but at the start of the season, I was laughing a page
33:58 --> 34:02 [SPEAKER_00]: these two actors talking to each other saying acting is the most important thing in the world.
34:02 --> 34:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I love you.
34:04 --> 34:13 [SPEAKER_00]: And by this episode I'm going, well now I can kind of see this is why I love TV and this is why I love movies because you do feel a connection with the performances of great actors on screen.
34:13 --> 34:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Of course you do.
34:14 --> 34:17 [SPEAKER_00]: It was just how it was being positioned at the beginning of the season.
34:17 --> 34:26 [SPEAKER_00]: These two people who haven't had any major roles in their life saying acting is the most important thing in the world, but they do understand that the community that acting can
34:26 --> 34:32 [SPEAKER_00]: is massively important, entertainment is hugely important to free people and to open people's minds to things.
34:32 --> 34:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's great to see how they've changed my mind on that almost as the season's gone on or given me a different perspective, let's say, as the season's gone on.
34:42 --> 34:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Anything else on that point, John, or any notes that you have about the episode?
34:45 --> 35:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the only note I've got is to kind of you have the flashback to travel auditioning for the Mandarin and and I to be honest, you know, I just really like the way the person behind the camera you don't see is like
35:00 --> 35:11 [SPEAKER_01]: just try to sound scary and I like how it comes and develops in that moment of the audition tape for forever.
35:11 --> 35:17 [SPEAKER_01]: It's good, you know, because it starts off a little squeaky, the tone's not quite rising.
35:17 --> 35:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Like it starts off as an audition for a job in a pizza commercial, so I'd like to read it.
35:24 --> 35:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And then it's something more scary and the other interesting thing here is it's only when he puts on his song glasses and the other side of this is the song glasses of one demand.
35:36 --> 35:50 [SPEAKER_01]: like we're saying around in the Disney box that we're saying, you know, and part of one demands outfits, you want the comics, this is goggles or specs, and it's sunglasses effectively.
35:50 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_01]: And here you have Trevor actually getting into full character of the Mandarin and having both
36:00 --> 36:10 [SPEAKER_01]: darkened, deepened, and graveled his voice more from initially after the guy who has his try to sound more scary, but also putting on the sunnies.
36:11 --> 36:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, yes, yeah, I thought that was kind of quite a nice little moment.
36:15 --> 36:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's such a cool scene to see this, and you can also, one of the things that's really clear here is that Trevor is massively out of his depth in this audition.
36:26 --> 36:32 [SPEAKER_00]: He looks, sounds like he's completely under the influence of drugs still or are very drunk coming in for this audition.
36:32 --> 36:34 [SPEAKER_00]: He's saying he's not of his best at all.
36:34 --> 36:40 [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't really want to do this audition, and then even when he finds out that it's not auditioning for this,
36:40 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_00]: what sounds like an advert for, as I said, a pizza place, he's still saying, can I do this a different way and the guy's pushing him and pushing him and pushing him, you know, they want someone like Simon in this role to take on this role of the terrorist and the more easily manipulated this person is because of the drugs that he's on, the better it is for them, right?
37:02 --> 37:10 [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I'd love for the reveal was that's older than Killing on the other side of the
37:10 --> 37:15 [SPEAKER_00]: But you'd love if there was a moment that it was revealed that that was, um, Guy Pearson does out of the camera.
37:15 --> 37:17 [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I don't think it is.
37:17 --> 37:19 [SPEAKER_00]: It's probably one of his guys, right?
37:19 --> 37:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, he has a lot of people in aim.
37:20 --> 37:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he needs to be several degrees separated from this.
37:25 --> 37:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
37:26 --> 37:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
37:26 --> 37:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
37:27 --> 37:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Great stuff.
37:28 --> 37:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, Chris didn't get to come back and join us.
37:30 --> 37:33 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I would say he's well deep in it.
37:33 --> 37:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I'd say he is.
37:34 --> 37:36 [SPEAKER_00]: He's sleeping the walls at the moment.
37:36 --> 37:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, Chris, what's John?
37:39 --> 37:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I think we need to get on to where to fan the John.
37:42 --> 37:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you defend the 6th episode of Myrl's Wonderman callback?
37:45 --> 37:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I really do and I give this phone a half a Vaughn co-vac Improves out of 5.
37:51 --> 37:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love the the pattern of this just Simon again just
37:58 --> 38:03 [SPEAKER_01]: In a sense showing how incapable he is actually, to some degree.
38:04 --> 38:07 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's very capable, Janelle sees it.
38:07 --> 38:14 [SPEAKER_01]: But when it's in and off the moment, it's overthought over processed.
38:14 --> 38:34 [SPEAKER_01]: and in this sense he's also over tires and I like the fact that you know there is this little wobble between Trevor and Simon does think and you know it crops up a few times in this where Simon's really blaming Trevor for how it's going in the audition and that you know the
38:34 --> 38:43 [SPEAKER_01]: this opportunity hangs in the balance because of being caught up in all the shenanigans of Trevor's past effectively.
38:44 --> 38:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I think von Covax excellent just looked at the portrayal of the
38:57 --> 39:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon out with the with the whole shoes door.
39:01 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I love that she even just leaves them at side Funkox office, which is also right beside the front door and just say a word to them.
39:07 --> 39:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Actually, they got the role.
39:09 --> 39:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
39:09 --> 39:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Because she's so off-handed with them and walks away, they think they need to go home.
39:14 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
39:14 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
39:14 --> 39:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I think the improv exercises with the different pair ups.
39:18 --> 39:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I think I love the little almost bass and switch around Simon falling asleep and punching out.
39:25 --> 39:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Rich's head.
39:26 --> 39:34 [SPEAKER_01]: That was really held on that took me by surprise and ultimately though the
39:35 --> 39:44 [SPEAKER_01]: the conversations between Simon and Trevor out on the veranda and what it leads to is so so I think beautiful.
39:45 --> 40:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It's really, really good, which is then immediately on time by Trevor looking out for Numerous, you know, which is himself at the hands of Agent Cleary, where he is a danger and I will testify.
40:00 --> 40:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to go back to prison.
40:02 --> 40:05 [SPEAKER_01]: So totally the
40:05 --> 40:06 [SPEAKER_01]: for himself.
40:06 --> 40:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, well, where's that going to go?
40:08 --> 40:09 [SPEAKER_01]: How is that going to play out?
40:09 --> 40:15 [SPEAKER_01]: So really, really looking forward to the next episode as well.
40:15 --> 40:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So for me, yes, absolutely defend this.
40:17 --> 40:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, really solid series this for me, four and a half Vaughn Kovac Improves out of five.
40:23 --> 40:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic.
40:24 --> 40:32 [SPEAKER_00]: What are the interesting things, actually, from what Trevor says to Cleary is that he needs time to get the evidence.
40:32 --> 40:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Just time to get the evidence mean I need to go ahead and film the entire movie you want to hand, don't pressure me for a few months.
40:38 --> 40:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's his way.
40:40 --> 40:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe maybe maybe.
40:41 --> 40:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
40:42 --> 40:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Direct.
40:42 --> 40:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you defend this episode of Wonderland?
40:46 --> 40:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I absolutely defend this episode.
40:48 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_00]: This is a really, really good episode again, a strong sense of...
40:52 --> 41:07 [SPEAKER_00]: the Hollywood system and how movies get made, you know, the collaborative process of writers director and the cast that he's assembling around him, really liked that insight, but also it's telling a story about the character here.
41:08 --> 41:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Really importantly, what we're learning about Simon is he has to be controlled in control of everything in his life because he's terrified,
41:19 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_00]: powers and being told by Trevor that actually he's got so much more to him other than his powers and he's been hiding his real life trying to hide the powers.
41:31 --> 41:32 [SPEAKER_00]: It's such a great moment between the two of them.
41:32 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah absolutely loved this episode, uh, re-good fun as well, especially with the extra actors in there as well.
41:39 --> 41:40 [SPEAKER_00]: That's really good.
41:40 --> 41:48 [SPEAKER_00]: That seems, um, and that's it for our episode
41:48 --> 41:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Definitely, fellow quizzes, fellow defenders welcome to the sixth installment of the Wonderman Pope quiz.
41:58 --> 42:09 [SPEAKER_01]: We're on to question six, which is what is the name of the character that Richard still has nightmares about after playing the role in the lieutenant of Inishmoor?
42:09 --> 42:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I didn't realize it was such a sensal if so, don't you?
42:13 --> 42:15 [SPEAKER_01]: How are you guys going to get the question one more time?
42:15 --> 42:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
42:16 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_01]: What is the name of the character that Richard still has nightmares about after playing the role in the lieutenant of Enishmole?
42:24 --> 42:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Just a one word answer, and that is the sixth question, and it gathered together the correct answers to all eight questions at the end of the season and email us in with those two feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com And you could be able to chance of getting your hands on some very fun items connected hopefully with Wonderland
42:42 --> 42:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, absolutely.
42:43 --> 42:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Good luck fellow defenders and quizzes.
42:47 --> 42:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and we of course want to keep hearing your thoughts at base.
42:50 --> 43:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Wonderman, you can email us through to feedback at TV podcast industries.com what your thoughts about each of the episodes for Wonderman or you can pop on our Facebook group at facebook.com slash group slash TV podcast industries or join us over in our Discord server.
43:03 --> 43:10 [SPEAKER_00]: The link is in the show notes of this very episode or pop on over to Discord and search TV podcast industries should be able to find us over there.
43:10 --> 43:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Let us know if you can't, I'll hopefully be able to make it a bit easier for you.
43:13 --> 43:16 [SPEAKER_00]: We do have some free back in on episode 6.
43:16 --> 43:19 [SPEAKER_00]: First up, we got some free back in from mathematician over in Facebook.
43:19 --> 43:24 [SPEAKER_00]: He says, anybody else pausing on co-vax wall to look for Easter eggs.
43:24 --> 43:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Lots of Avengers stuff in there, but as an uncommon book reader, the callback's often passed me die.
43:28 --> 43:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Trevor playing the invisible Trombone was hilarious.
43:31 --> 43:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to spend it evening with that guy.
43:33 --> 43:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I love Harry Cope's with the destruction he helped cause for Aldrich Killian because he can't
43:40 --> 43:48 [SPEAKER_00]: So, as a late 80s, early 90s teenager from the streets of Italy, Liverpool, I can relate to not remembering much of the time for similar reasons.
43:48 --> 43:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Nearly jumped aged with my skin when Simon punched all through the confusing actors.
43:52 --> 43:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Thankfully, it was all just a dream, I'd go back to the outside, remind me of Aldrich Kelly and his place.
43:58 --> 44:00 [SPEAKER_00]: That totally infiltrated with his trusty tech.
44:00 --> 44:04 [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't the same filming location I did check.
44:04 --> 44:10 [SPEAKER_00]: They then stun Kovac with a dramatic audition where they proved that less is more and surprisingly, won the parts.
44:11 --> 44:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Kovac feeling the same chemistry as we have watching the show.
44:15 --> 44:20 [SPEAKER_00]: The faces on the two of them in the car, while they're just trying to act not too excited, absolutely love it.
44:20 --> 44:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Definitely.
44:20 --> 44:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Clearly show a gop once more to try and threaten Trevor with prison once again, but this time I think Trevor doesn't want to help him anymore, and it starts to consider how to keep himself as a prison with ice, and the traders influence the phrase alert, throwing Simon under the bus.
44:35 --> 44:38 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see, just two more episodes to go.
44:38 --> 44:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
44:39 --> 44:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks.
44:39 --> 44:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Mathematicians for for the feedback.
44:43 --> 44:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I like that.
44:44 --> 44:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Take there that actually the reason why I'm where Trevor has is saying to Cleary just give me more time is because he knows what longer I'm helping.
44:51 --> 44:55 [SPEAKER_00]: It is really giving self a bit of time to come up with something else like that.
44:55 --> 45:01 [SPEAKER_01]: definitely, and totally with you as well on the invisible trombone.
45:01 --> 45:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Love that work.
45:02 --> 45:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And I also, yeah, I think that's a really good point how, you know, in a sense, he's almost oblivious of all that destruction, and because he was blitzed out of his skull.
45:13 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_01]: And yes, I had the same reaction with Simon punching the hole through the actor's heads, you know, which was, yeah, one of shock, surprise, and jumping out of my skin.
45:23 --> 45:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
45:23 --> 45:34 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, really please, you're enjoying the show and enjoying these two fantastic actors going ahead to head to head, it's really good.
45:34 --> 45:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, yeah, I'm two more episodes together.
45:36 --> 45:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
45:37 --> 45:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and John's back.
45:38 --> 45:40 [SPEAKER_00]: What's again for the feedbacks, Hector and the time?
45:40 --> 45:41 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, yes.
45:41 --> 45:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Good to be back.
45:42 --> 45:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
45:43 --> 45:45 [SPEAKER_00]: John, do you want to kick us off with the first additional piece of feedback?
45:46 --> 45:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, er, over on email, we got some feedback from Coffee and vodka.
45:50 --> 45:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It says, greetings fellow domestically directed defenders.
45:55 --> 45:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Before anything, loved the shoe bit.
45:58 --> 46:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Functionally, the episode had two jobs separating character from power and properly introducing one co-vac, which it did well.
46:06 --> 46:13 [SPEAKER_01]: The rest was pure piss taking out of the Hollywood machine, which has put me in a mind to finally watch the studio.
46:13 --> 46:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that the stage is set, can't wait to see what they do with it.
46:17 --> 46:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Five blow minds, shoeless, shmoes, and artless archetypes out of five.
46:23 --> 46:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Peace and take care.
46:24 --> 46:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Coffee and vodka.
46:26 --> 46:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic, coffee and vodka.
46:27 --> 46:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love to that tree soon.
46:29 --> 46:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was hilarious.
46:30 --> 46:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
46:31 --> 46:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's so good.
46:32 --> 46:33 [SPEAKER_01]: That's just the...
46:33 --> 46:37 [SPEAKER_01]: outward expression of Simon's racing mind.
46:37 --> 46:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
46:39 --> 46:41 [SPEAKER_00]: What is one pair of shoes?
46:41 --> 46:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
46:42 --> 46:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was really really good.
46:43 --> 46:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Just like Travis response.
46:44 --> 46:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Like who cares?
46:46 --> 46:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
46:46 --> 46:49 [SPEAKER_00]: British girls don't make him realize that you're weird.
46:49 --> 46:51 [SPEAKER_00]: That's more important.
46:51 --> 46:52 [SPEAKER_00]: very cool coffee vodka as well.
46:52 --> 46:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I highly recommend the studio.
46:54 --> 47:03 [SPEAKER_00]: I think we watched the first four or five episodes of it and for no particular reason we haven't gone back to the episodes but but we have really enjoyed watching that.
47:04 --> 47:07 [SPEAKER_00]: We're also watching a show called Hacks as well which stars Jean Smarsh.
47:07 --> 47:20 [SPEAKER_00]: He was in the excellent watchman along with Yaha Abdul Mithin playing his former bow in that but she's in Hacks as well and that's another show about show business and
47:20 --> 47:24 [SPEAKER_00]: They're like a 30 minute comedy, they're well, yeah, definitely.
47:25 --> 47:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Both really good The studio and hacks.
47:28 --> 47:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and again, this is a nice little yeah additional element into
47:33 --> 47:46 [SPEAKER_01]: not only the Hollywood machine, but so on themselves who identifies as being out of the Hollywood machine in the Hollywood machine, which is not just Trevor and Simon, boss, Avon co-vac as well.
47:47 --> 47:47 [SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of like that.
47:48 --> 47:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was close.
47:50 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for that coffee vodka.
47:51 --> 47:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, thanks coffee and vodka.
47:53 --> 47:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Over on Discord for the pay says, well, is now a good time to admit I've never seen Christy woman.
47:58 --> 48:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And I look at you for a little bit.
48:00 --> 48:15 [SPEAKER_00]: I honestly thought he was doing a great job at EndFend as Mojo, especially with all the dramatic glass throwing, filled me You know, it's just it is just one of those things that lots of us May not have picked up as quickly as others.
48:15 --> 48:24 [SPEAKER_00]: There's less people like a quote every single line in And pretty woman like you mentioned John your sister is probably ever quote every single line of that She wouldn't I don't think so.
48:24 --> 48:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I only know that because
48:27 --> 48:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of, I say I was forced to watch it.
48:30 --> 48:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I probably wasn't forced in the end.
48:34 --> 48:37 [SPEAKER_01]: It was just like ubiquitous in our households.
48:37 --> 48:39 [SPEAKER_01]: She was watching it all the time.
48:40 --> 48:40 [SPEAKER_00]: But that's what I mean.
48:40 --> 48:44 [SPEAKER_00]: She probably would know that line instantly because it's such a big moment in movies.
48:44 --> 48:44 [SPEAKER_00]: It's all I mean.
48:44 --> 48:45 [SPEAKER_00]: You might.
48:45 --> 48:50 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like my brother is used to watch breakfast well, but every day after school for years.
48:50 --> 48:52 [SPEAKER_00]: And I mean like two or three years.
48:52 --> 48:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So we've seen it in our household.
48:53 --> 48:55 [SPEAKER_00]: We saw it up to three, four, 100 times.
48:55 --> 48:56 [SPEAKER_00]: You know?
48:56 --> 48:59 [SPEAKER_01]: like when I hear a man saying, there'll be nobody's stop as this time.
48:59 --> 48:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
48:59 --> 49:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
49:00 --> 49:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
49:00 --> 49:03 [SPEAKER_00]: We know exactly what you're at, what you're referencing there.
49:03 --> 49:05 [SPEAKER_00]: So, so yes, it's a good time to admit it for the pay.
49:06 --> 49:09 [SPEAKER_00]: If you don't want to see it, I wouldn't highly recommend.
49:09 --> 49:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Pretty warm and good other people would.
49:11 --> 49:11 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a, it's a.
49:11 --> 49:16 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's one of those classic movies that did well at the time, whether it's age.
49:16 --> 49:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know because I really have avoided it.
49:18 --> 49:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I really don't want to see it at any time soon.
49:20 --> 49:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, boss.
49:22 --> 49:24 [SPEAKER_00]: But Julie Roberts is great, isn't it?
49:24 --> 49:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
49:24 --> 49:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Good to see you.
49:25 --> 49:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Good to see you.
49:27 --> 49:28 [SPEAKER_00]: He's also on us.
49:28 --> 49:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Great stuff.
49:29 --> 49:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for the faith.
49:30 --> 49:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thanks, Bill of Eight, and also over on our Facebook group, Heather Wallace says, based on Kovac's music choice, I think he's been hanging out with the Star Lord.
49:41 --> 49:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad this episode finally established that Trevor is trying out for Barnaby, certainly fits with the building tension of Willibertre Simon, but it was also for me to
49:54 --> 50:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I felt so embarrassed for Simon when he started doing a pretty woman and I was so thankful I'm not an actor having to jump through those hoops in deed.
50:04 --> 50:10 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I love drama at school when I didn't do it in the end because I had to do it.
50:10 --> 50:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I did a second language in terms of German with French, which was, I wish I hadn't now because both languages suffered and it's so weird for them.
50:22 --> 50:25 [SPEAKER_00]: It is between drama or under the language, isn't it?
50:25 --> 50:26 [SPEAKER_01]: And I wish, whether, yeah.
50:26 --> 50:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And I just wish I'd done drama now, but equally, I look at this and I go, oh my goodness, could you imagine that?
50:33 --> 50:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it is sheer resilience.
50:36 --> 50:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, these people that go out and fur juice and I think that's the nice thing that comes out from
50:43 --> 51:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Simon's brother, really, just this notion of, I mean, okay, he's coming out of it from a very school and full point of view, but it's like, so you've got on a callback, so you've got to interview again, you've not got the job and it's like, you hear about this like loads of callbacks, you know, on some of the additional extras or, you know, the myth that goes around a certain production and you're just like going,
51:07 --> 51:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Could you imagine having that?
51:09 --> 51:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Just the sort of dynamically is holding a hello video for so long.
51:13 --> 51:15 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a will I won't I?
51:16 --> 51:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And also just having to be able to pick yourself up.
51:18 --> 51:21 [SPEAKER_01]: That resilience as I say and get back at it.
51:21 --> 51:23 [SPEAKER_01]: You've been told no.
51:23 --> 51:25 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a baby or possibly.
51:25 --> 51:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're good, but you know, I've had moments like that were ultimately then I go or screw you Yeah, I'm not doing that again Absolutely, you can't do that because you might be blacklisted and Hollywood jumps, so yeah, yeah I've had times being able to work and happen to interview a loss for roles and not hearing back and not hearing anything at all, you know, putting your best foot forward great
51:44 --> 51:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you could do that over and over again, and then you may get to the perfect place.
51:48 --> 51:58 [SPEAKER_00]: They want you, your perfect for the job, and then you're just terrible at the interview, because you've done 20 interviews beforehand, where you've put everything into it, and you've been beaten down by the sister, you know?
51:58 --> 52:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Can you imagine what that's like if you're doing two or three auditions every single week?
52:01 --> 52:04 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's just a tiny insight in the background that's here.
52:05 --> 52:09 [SPEAKER_00]: And but we did mention some of the things that do come through are...
52:09 --> 52:23 [SPEAKER_00]: for this show itself, someone like Yaha Abdul-Madeen having to do those recordings of himself doing self-tax in hundreds of different outfits, in hundreds of different styles, just for the background of an episode in this show.
52:23 --> 52:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's really funny that they would have had the actor do that much stuff as well, but that happens all the time.
52:29 --> 52:36 [SPEAKER_00]: People work on shows and movies for five or six months and it turns into an era of an era of tv or a tv or a tv era movie, you know.
52:36 --> 52:42 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a huge amount of time that they've spent and we only see a fraction of that work and a fraction of what they actually don't know.
52:42 --> 52:44 [SPEAKER_00]: So it's cool that that actually comes out.
52:44 --> 52:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I don't know whether I would have the patience to do that myself to be honest.
52:49 --> 52:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and certainly came back to music choice would fit with Star Lord and his mixed tape, which ultimately from his mom from that sort of 1970s era.
52:58 --> 53:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I wanted to do a fun cover, a hang-out with his mom at all those gigs that she went to with his dad as well.
53:04 --> 53:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe they went to a creed and still wrote a revival gig at some point.
53:09 --> 53:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Great stuff, thanks, Heather.
53:10 --> 53:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thanks, Heather.
53:11 --> 53:13 [SPEAKER_00]: and thanks every feedback.
53:13 --> 53:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good stuff.
53:14 --> 53:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks fellow defenders for all your thoughts there.
53:17 --> 53:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Keep them coming in for the rest of the episodes.
53:21 --> 53:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.

53:37 --> 53:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you know Kathy Friedman, John?
53:39 --> 53:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
