Episode Synopsis:
Simon shares his concerns with Trevor that if his abilities are revealed to the world he will lose his career because of Hollywood’s “Doorman” clause. Unaware of the history, Simon explains to Trevor who caused the change to Hollywood’s inclusion of powered individuals.
A few years ago, DeMarr Davis was a doorman for the Wilcox club in LA. Brushing shoulders with wealthy customers, musicians and actors he loved his job. But when he encountered some otherworldly goop from the Roxxon Corporation he developed special abilities. He now has the ability to teleport people and objects through solid matter.
When a fire starts in the club, threatening the lives of everyone inside, DeMarr uses his new Doorman powers to get everyone out to safety. Eternally grateful for saving his life, Hollywood actor Josh Gad gives DeMarr a job as his assistant.
DeMarr soon gets a role on Josh’s movie “Cash Grab” using his powers in a pivotal scene. The stunt works and DeMarr Davis becomes The Doorman, the superpowered actor with his own catch phrase.
But it’s not Ding Dong for long as the public quickly get tired of DeMarr’s schtick. On the downward spiral, a glimmer of hope comes in the form of Josh offering him a role in “Cash Grab 2”. But when they try to create a new super powered sequence for the sequel it all goes horribly wrong. As one cash bag after another is safely transferred through Demarr it's time for Josh Gad’s character to also make his escape. But J-Gad goes in and J-Gad doesn't come out, disappearing, never to return.
Hollywood was shocked and created a clause on all productions that would stop people with powers acting in any production ever again.

00:20 --> 00:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you.
00:21 --> 00:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It was easy if you bring somebody else in.
00:23 --> 00:24 [SPEAKER_01]: We're keeping the idea.
00:25 --> 00:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Brilliant idea.
00:26 --> 00:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Bringing a real actor.
00:27 --> 00:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Then you can take it.

01:44 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_03]: I always remember being told as a kid.
01:45 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_03]: You're not a window.
01:46 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Put your head down.
01:47 --> 01:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I can't see through you.
01:48 --> 01:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Like.
01:49 --> 01:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
01:50 --> 02:03 [SPEAKER_02]: This is the story of Dimart Dorman Davis that we get a brief reference to in episode three from Simon Williams.
02:04 --> 02:07 [SPEAKER_02]: So yes, interesting to see this tale.
02:07 --> 02:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, Dimart Davis.
02:09 --> 02:17 [SPEAKER_03]: And in fact, we've had reference to it all the way back to the first episode because the Dorman clause has been mentioned all the way back to the first episode.

03:34 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_02]: But as we are releasing two podcasts each week again, unfortunately, our co-host Christoph, the brave, is not able to join us, but he will be here for the next two
03:48 --> 03:56 [SPEAKER_03]: episode you will you will you may hear a little bit of purring because our podcast has joined at wonderful Charlie is in the rush.
03:56 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Charlie is in the room actually and Bush we're hoping that he went it dropped a good recording too much but he's very cute so he's trying to get our attention
04:04 --> 04:06 [SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't want to feel alone.
04:06 --> 04:10 [SPEAKER_02]: He wants to get in on the podcast action.
04:11 --> 04:14 [SPEAKER_03]: He tends to only join us to show that he really likes, so he must really like Wonder Man.
04:14 --> 04:16 [SPEAKER_02]: He must do.
04:16 --> 04:19 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think with that, we should get into the podcast action.
04:19 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
04:20 --> 04:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And Derek, what are some of the episode details for Dorman, episode four of Wonder Man?
04:26 --> 04:29 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, the show is created for TV by Destin Dino Kretten and Andrew Guest.
04:29 --> 04:32 [SPEAKER_03]: This episode was again directed by James Poncell to Directed App.
04:32 --> 04:37 [SPEAKER_03]: So, three, and the episode is written by Zick Nicholson, who is a writer on Apple TV comedy Loose.
04:37 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_03]: And he's also been a comedy actor.
04:39 --> 04:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Interestingly, that's the third one of the writers who was an actor and the writer as well.
04:44 --> 04:53 [SPEAKER_03]: So, actually, I think they were looking for a specific type of pool of writers for this show, people who've also actors, and they can pull from their experience.
04:53 --> 04:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Definitely definitely.
04:55 --> 04:56 [SPEAKER_03]: Excellent stuff.
04:56 --> 05:11 [SPEAKER_03]: So John do I tell us what the game is with your synopsis for wondermind episode four doing man I will try and read through the black kissy that we have all right, Johnny come off you come over here I'm gonna let the less John read the synopsis
05:12 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Simon shares his concerns with Trevor that if his abilities are revealed to the world, he will lose his career because of Hollywood's dormant claws.
05:21 --> 05:29 [SPEAKER_02]: On a way of the history, Simon explains to Trevor who caused the change to Hollywood's inclusion of powered individuals.
05:29 --> 05:38 [SPEAKER_02]: A few years ago, Demar Davis was a dormant for the Wilcox Club in LA, brushing shoulders with wealthy customers, musicians, and actors.
05:38 --> 05:39 [SPEAKER_02]: He loved his job.
05:40 --> 05:46 [SPEAKER_02]: But when he encountered some otherworldly goop from the rocks and corporation, he developed special abilities.
05:47 --> 05:52 [SPEAKER_02]: He now has the ability to teleport people and objects through solid matter.
05:52 --> 06:01 [SPEAKER_02]: When a fire starts in the club threatening the lives of everyone inside, Demar uses his new door-man powers to get everyone out to safety.
06:01 --> 06:10 [SPEAKER_02]: The totally grateful for saving his life, Hollywood actor Jay Gad or Josh Gad gives Demar a job as his assistant.
06:11 --> 06:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Demar soon gets a role on Josh's movie Cash Grab, using his powers in a pivotal scene.
06:18 --> 06:31 [SPEAKER_02]: The stunt works and Demar Davis becomes the Dorman, the super-powered actor with his own catchphrase, but it's not all ding-dong for long, as the public quickly get tired of Demar's stick.
06:31 --> 06:45 [SPEAKER_02]: On the downward spiral, a glimmer of hope comes in the form of Josh offering him a role in cash grab too, but when they try to create a new super-powered sequence for the sequel, it all goes horribly wrong.
06:45 --> 07:00 [SPEAKER_02]: As one cash brag after another is safely transferred through tomorrow, it's time for Josh Gads character to also make his escape, but J-Gads goes in and J-Gads doesn't come out disappearing never to return.
07:00 --> 07:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Hollywood was shocked and created a clause on all productions that was stopped people with powers acting in any production ever again.
07:15 --> 07:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Because they sell the dormant claws in every single movie so I know it's in black and white But it's not a hundred years ago anything.
07:22 --> 07:26 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just a few years ago Put yeah, Josh God never to return.
07:27 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
07:28 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_02]: I know fair do's to um I mean it's great I think Josh guys here just such a great choice plays it really really well.
07:38 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and so yeah, absolutely
07:39 --> 08:07 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's kind of an interesting deviation from the main story, really, because it is really down to that one line that Simon says to Trevor in the car on the way back from his mother's birthday.
08:07 --> 08:12 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it's a really interesting kind of shift, I think.
08:12 --> 08:14 [SPEAKER_03]: It is, yeah, nice, nice little side story.
08:14 --> 08:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Would you be shocked to know that the Dorman is actually a superhero in Marvel Comics?
08:21 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I soon as the mask happened for cash grab, yes, in those scenes, I was like, no, that's too specific.
08:28 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
08:29 --> 08:38 [SPEAKER_02]: So I kind of, even though I hadn't heard of him before, yeah, I kind of assumed that
08:38 --> 08:42 [SPEAKER_02]: It was a couch and it isn't like the great lakes event.
08:42 --> 08:43 [SPEAKER_03]: It's actually the great legend.
08:43 --> 08:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that was going to be like my big reveal.
08:45 --> 08:47 [SPEAKER_03]: So yes.
08:47 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_02]: The worst of Andrews and the great lakes event.
08:50 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_03]: The ones and nobody remembers any of the members of them and they are terrible.
08:54 --> 08:56 [SPEAKER_02]: What's kind of how low can you go with that?
08:56 --> 09:00 [SPEAKER_02]: He's kind of like, well, it is the, the buttons of energy.
09:00 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Basically, yes, I think.
09:01 --> 09:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yes, we have the Avengers who are East Coast.
09:03 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_03]: We have the West Coast Avengers.
09:05 --> 09:06 [SPEAKER_03]: That'll make sense.
09:06 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_03]: And then we start getting lower and lower down the wrongs into the Great Lakes.
09:09 --> 09:12 [SPEAKER_02]: It is the burnt out static caravan of energy.
09:12 --> 09:13 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not something like that.
09:13 --> 09:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, absolutely.
09:14 --> 09:19 [SPEAKER_03]: But yes, he is a character in a, in my role, comic, not very many issues, as it could probably tell.
09:20 --> 09:23 [SPEAKER_03]: They run out of ideas for his, for his power as pretty soon
09:23 --> 09:27 [SPEAKER_03]: But let's get into our top takes for the episode jump.
09:27 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
09:28 --> 09:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, fire off.
09:30 --> 09:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Go on, sir Take one action It is Demal's new powers.
09:37 --> 09:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean for me personally I actually really enjoyed Same rocks and again.
09:43 --> 09:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I always like a bit of rocks and absolutely It's like aim and hydra.
09:48 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just good sea and
09:51 --> 10:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Rocks and here, I mean, and ultimately should be in more because on all corporations evil these days Well back in the days and what's going on in the world and so I really like this.
10:01 --> 10:10 [SPEAKER_02]: I loved the mysterious liquid It really it gave me a sense a bit of Spider-Man into the spiderverse and the void
10:10 --> 10:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
10:12 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
10:12 --> 10:25 [SPEAKER_03]: And it's very similar to Paris, very similar style, because the way that the liquid looks even though the whole episode in black and white, the liquid has this kind of shimmer of star as in it or something as he puts his hand into it.
10:26 --> 10:31 [SPEAKER_03]: And that's what seems to give him the Paris of becoming a doorway.
10:31 --> 10:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, in Furnace as well, when he goes down into this dark world with all the white doors, I also then started to think of the way, kind of, the multi-versus describes in peacemaker, actually the T-P show, with all the doors through the, into the different dimensions, absolutely.
10:52 --> 11:01 [SPEAKER_02]: So, there was assuming it goes to different dimensions, and then I started, is this a slightly like an
11:01 --> 11:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I was kind of really intrigued by this whole setup.
11:07 --> 11:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Is it the void?
11:07 --> 11:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Is it something to do with multiverse?
11:11 --> 11:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Because even with the void, he travels through the multiverse.
11:15 --> 11:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought this was really interesting and it gradually gets peredown over time to effectively
11:28 --> 11:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's actually really interesting.
11:32 --> 11:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I like how this came about by sort of a leaky bin.
11:36 --> 11:36 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
11:37 --> 11:44 [SPEAKER_03]: And it's just because there bin is full, so we try to put it in the bin right next door, which is for Rocks on with this mysterious liquid oozing out of it.
11:45 --> 11:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Rocks on a responsible of this universe for Daredevil's Paris as well, there that was the top of chemicals that's blacked in size.
11:52 --> 11:55 [SPEAKER_03]: As far as I remember, because that's the Netflix origin.
11:55 --> 12:21 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's changed for the MCU Daredevil born again so I don't think so yeah I mean it's interesting they didn't know it came from a bin otherwise it'd be known as bin man Well yeah I do I do wonder though um you know you wonder about how characters get their Paris and where they come from this is just a liquid that he puts his hand into and then he becomes a door man but interestingly when we learn a bit about tomorrow at the beginning of the episode as you say he was a door man for the Wilcox Club he is
12:21 --> 12:25 [SPEAKER_03]: rubbing shoulders with celebrity but doesn't want to be a celebrity himself.
12:25 --> 12:32 [SPEAKER_03]: He loves the idea of being a door man and then he gets the powers of being a door for people.
12:32 --> 12:38 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, is the powers that he gets dependent on who he is as a person as well.
12:38 --> 12:42 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, somebody else who loves their job as a singer become an amazing singer off the back of it.
12:42 --> 12:44 [SPEAKER_03]: He became an amazing door man.
12:44 --> 12:51 [SPEAKER_02]: But it is interesting to see, you know, in the conversation with his boss,
12:51 --> 13:06 [SPEAKER_02]: He's enjoying the job that he does, he likes that his interface with celebrity comes through being the door man and having that moment with the celebrity.
13:06 --> 13:13 [SPEAKER_03]: Or with the Texans that are traveling up to Ally, I must say, I really love that joke that he's got in there.
13:13 --> 13:16 [SPEAKER_03]: You can't come in here because I heard Texans do line dancing.
13:16 --> 13:17 [SPEAKER_03]: And we don't know why I let her end here.
13:18 --> 13:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Just because he's very playful with the people that are coming into his clothes, so that's really good fun.
13:23 --> 13:28 [SPEAKER_03]: He does seem like that kind of natural personality, as well, that people enjoy being around.
13:28 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_03]: So really enjoy that with Demar's opening and him getting his powers.
13:34 --> 13:55 [SPEAKER_03]: That moment where he just disappears into the void wakes back up at the following morning and as a partner then his dog comes over he calls the dog and the dog falls through him in the neighbor's apartment and then he goes into the neighbor's apartment because she has her door unlocked while she's having a shower in the apartment block and then she gets really angry at him for walking in and letting his dog so he has no idea what's going on.
13:56 --> 14:02 [SPEAKER_03]: No idea how he got home
14:02 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and effectively it's almost like a portal.
14:05 --> 14:09 [SPEAKER_02]: It's partly why I said J-Gad goes in and J-Gad
14:10 --> 14:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, in a sense, it doesn't come out in the play on the famous steam valve game portal.
14:19 --> 14:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
14:20 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_02]: So he allows the solid matter to pass through into another area, which at least from the initial interaction with his pet dog, he's not really able to control things.
14:32 --> 14:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he doesn't know about it actually.
14:34 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_02]: So he goes to Hogg, his dog, and the dog disappears.
14:41 --> 14:54 [SPEAKER_02]: But he clearly gets to be able to at least control, or he thinks he can control the power of where the object goes when it passes through him.
14:54 --> 14:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, it seems to be that, you know, we see a little bit of it over time through the episode.
14:59 --> 15:06 [SPEAKER_03]: It seems that he can place himself a front of solid matter and can people can pass through the solid matter by passing through him.
15:06 --> 15:07 [SPEAKER_03]: So literally,
15:07 --> 15:21 [SPEAKER_03]: a door, is what he is, although there are a couple of messes with that, where he reaches into his body and pulls something out of the portal when he's on the the talk show, for example, where he pulls things out of his portal, which is unusual.
15:21 --> 15:23 [SPEAKER_03]: That's not something that you would have on a door, right?
15:23 --> 15:26 [SPEAKER_03]: So, well, that's a standing in the delivery and pulling things out himself.
15:26 --> 15:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, he provides a doorway through another area.
15:31 --> 15:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's the thing to me.
15:33 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't
15:37 --> 15:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, when you say him go, it's into this dark world with white stores.
15:41 --> 15:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
15:41 --> 15:46 [SPEAKER_02]: So that ultimately, he's posting them.
15:47 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_02]: not through, but just posting them to a different location.
15:51 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_02]: But it looks like they're coming out through the wall, or something like that.
15:55 --> 16:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And it feels possibly not very controllable, ultimately, or it's just that the way he's doing it, it's so simple that, you know,
16:08 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_02]: it ends up looking just like a duel.
16:11 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
16:11 --> 16:15 [SPEAKER_02]: But it works for the character and it's a good riff on it, really.
16:15 --> 16:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I think.
16:16 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:16 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_02]: And shall we get on to our second moment from the episodes?
16:22 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Take two!
16:23 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Action!
16:25 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_02]: It is saving Josh Gad, or Jay Gad, and the boy band version of Josh Gad.
16:32 --> 16:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yes, I like the least try to make that a thing, but yeah, here we see him early on the episode before, of Tomorrow House Pirates of FEMA arriving there with his crew, and they say to to tomorrow.
16:43 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_03]: We'd love if you came down and had a drink with us later on, so they already seem to be friendly, Josh got Has been to the club many times the past.
16:51 --> 17:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I must say I absolutely love the Imagine Dragons joke that's there Where do Maris say into him guy from Magic Dragons is downstairs DJ and Josh goes I love Imagine Dragons That song radio active was the most important track of the last
17:06 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Three years it just seems so specific and sure if it's not like you know the greatest track of the last decade or millennium or anything It is literally the last three years.
17:17 --> 17:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, really good.
17:18 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_02]: So good.
17:19 --> 17:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, and I mean, yeah I really like just how Josh Gad plays all of this and just the
17:28 --> 17:32 [SPEAKER_02]: the whole feel of this kind of rude boy.
17:32 --> 17:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, successful rude boy, celebrity rude boy going through the clubs.
17:37 --> 17:41 [SPEAKER_02]: And maybe it is, I don't know, a polite boy though, very nice, very nice kids.
17:41 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_02]: But ultimately, actually really sounds, you know?
17:45 --> 17:47 [SPEAKER_02]: So I kind of really enjoyed this.
17:47 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_02]: But the next night or a few days after,
17:57 --> 18:04 [SPEAKER_02]: It effectively goes on fire, and tons of people trapped inside the door-owned open.
18:05 --> 18:11 [SPEAKER_03]: And it's interesting that when he was going outside to put out the bag of rubbish, where he got his power as we do see that door sticks all the time.
18:12 --> 18:14 [SPEAKER_03]: So that's been a known problem in there.
18:14 --> 18:18 [SPEAKER_03]: He tried to pull the door and he couldn't get it open early on when we see that.
18:18 --> 18:22 [SPEAKER_03]: And now it's possibly going to cause the death of everybody in the place.
18:22 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And that the rocks and bin has gone.
18:24 --> 18:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Ah, good catch.
18:25 --> 18:31 [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't notice that they've been Bill and Gunne, but effectively everybody's locked inside and he has to use his paris to get the mate.
18:31 --> 18:43 [SPEAKER_03]: So, so we have this moment where he comes through the door, stands in front of a creating a proper doorway edge, and it's Josh Gad that goes through and we're little bit after he goes through, you hear his voice going, oh, it's darkness.
18:44 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, here's the way.
18:44 --> 18:47 [SPEAKER_03]: And then you're in calling back through exit through tomorrow.
18:48 --> 18:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
18:49 --> 18:56 [SPEAKER_03]: I love the girls that he led in the Texans are there again, and they're going, I think that guy wants us to climb up inside of him.
18:56 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_02]: No way dude, that's great.
18:59 --> 19:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So really fun.
19:01 --> 19:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Definitely.
19:01 --> 19:09 [SPEAKER_02]: But he saves everyone, and we have this moment between him and Josh Gads were, effectively, he's offering him a job.
19:09 --> 19:19 [SPEAKER_02]: And again, we get this notion that Dema is perfectly happy in his job as a dormant, and then he hears that he's going to get
19:19 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_02]: 200 K plus better.
19:24 --> 19:30 [SPEAKER_02]: And to be Josh Gads personal assistant to be able to open every door to him.
19:30 --> 19:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
19:31 --> 19:33 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I like this week.
19:33 --> 19:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Then get this moment off.
19:35 --> 19:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, effectively tomorrow on the rise of the montage.
19:39 --> 19:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
19:39 --> 19:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the montage.
19:40 --> 19:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, where it's going, you know, it's, um,
19:45 --> 20:02 [SPEAKER_02]: popularity sort of skyrockets, there's awards ceremonies, chat shows, all from the film Cash Grab, you know, to spice up the highest effectively to quote Spice Girls.
20:02 --> 20:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, Josh offers him a role in the movie, doesn't he?
20:06 --> 20:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
20:06 --> 20:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I must say I love the mechanism that they use for the montage here, it's that it's on E.N.J.
20:10 --> 20:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Tayment Tonight, which is presented by Mario Lopez, now we don't get Mario Lopez over in Europe very often.
20:18 --> 20:27 [SPEAKER_03]: We would have seen him back in a safe by the bell, many, many, many moons ago, and I know he's presented a lot of American shows, but they haven't really transferred.
20:27 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Over to Europe.
20:28 --> 20:30 [SPEAKER_03]: So it's still a fight developing.
20:30 --> 20:37 [SPEAKER_03]: But suddenly seeing him on screen doing the most tremendous puns about Josh Gads career They are hilarious.
20:37 --> 20:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Go watch it back again if you didn't notice them He just just a great little play on the fact although he back from Josh Gads performance in the book of Mormon through his time working on frozen
20:47 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_03]: He uses so many great puns, go go watch that, that's a really well with the scene, but really cool way to use the montage to get us all up to date, find out that Demar is really enjoying his new job working for two and a grand, just serving stuff for Josh making sure that he gets his play to food on time, but Josh says another plan for him, as you say, he gives him an offer in the movie cash grab using his power as on screen, and works really well,
21:16 --> 21:44 [SPEAKER_02]: there will be this impenetrable safe that they can't crack in the movie and incomes doorman to give them a way that no other crew on earth would ever absolutely available to them very cool and that's it it's all going so well as yeah his his rise in in stardom even he heads back to the Wilcox club his old club he sees his boss bridges he needs tells the new
21:44 --> 21:46 [SPEAKER_02]: come get a drink when it goes quiet.
21:47 --> 21:49 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like this full circle moment.
21:49 --> 21:52 [SPEAKER_02]: It's the pinnacle before the fall.
21:53 --> 21:56 [SPEAKER_02]: It is the rise of tomorrow, Dormandavis.
21:57 --> 22:02 [SPEAKER_02]: But one of the interesting things with that rise as you see him
22:02 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_02]: doing adverts as well and you see the catchphrase coming in of ding-dong.
22:09 --> 22:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So it is on the rise or you know ding-dong is on the rise here with the dawn but in that it's soing the issue for you and that's what I quite like here in this.
22:21 --> 22:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I noticed the differentiation, did you notice that on the rise up, it's him making guest appearances on TV shows, doing the ding-dong cat phrase on the fall day, and it's him doing adverts and using the phrase.
22:33 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_03]: So I kind of thought that was a telling bit.
22:38 --> 22:51 [SPEAKER_03]: So if you are someone that's in the public eye for something specific and then you choose to advertise it, the fall is going to come much quicker than if you stay in the public eye and do things on TV or do things in movies.
22:51 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's on to our third point.
22:54 --> 22:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so they get us.
22:56 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_03]: Got to go one last time.
22:57 --> 22:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Take three.
22:59 --> 23:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Action.
23:01 --> 23:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the full from grace and the creation of the door man clause.
23:04 --> 23:05 [SPEAKER_03]: So why does it happen?
23:05 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_03]: What happened to it?
23:06 --> 23:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Headed to get there as you say the the full comes quite quickly.
23:10 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I love the people start pointing at age on social media really quickly.
23:13 --> 23:19 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, you hear him reading out some of the comments on social media where it's I hope this guy's five minutes of fame.
23:19 --> 23:22 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't last much longer on my favorite one.
23:22 --> 23:22 [SPEAKER_03]: that he reads out.
23:22 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, they used to have the celebrity mean tweets thing where they read mean tweets that are sent into actors.
23:29 --> 23:30 [SPEAKER_03]: That's what this feels like.
23:30 --> 23:37 [SPEAKER_03]: You see him reading it going, wouldn't knock knock be more appropriate for German rather than ding not because no.
23:37 --> 23:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Actually, that's probably true, but it's kind of, I guess midtown tonight is comedy chat show.
23:44 --> 24:04 [SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of where it starts, it's well, you know, and like the the presenters like saying, look, it's okay to have some fun at your expense and it kind of that is the moment then, you know, as you start getting, well, he's becoming a catchphrase with the ding-dong, you have then, yeah.
24:04 --> 24:09 [SPEAKER_02]: You have the brand, uh, Xbox for, for constipation.
24:09 --> 24:11 [SPEAKER_02]: It gets things moving right through.
24:13 --> 24:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Very good.
24:15 --> 24:20 [SPEAKER_02]: But even that comedy starts like getting a little bit thing and the contract is cut short.
24:20 --> 24:21 [SPEAKER_03]: But isn't he going to go?
24:21 --> 24:27 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought these were going to be, um, you know, much more high-brow kind of ads that I was going to be getting.
24:27 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_03]: But he did deliver the line, like he's got those moving through you how much more high bro are you?
24:32 --> 24:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean it's even that he wants to challenge the the contract termination but his agent is like No, yeah, and you just don't do it.
24:40 --> 24:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love the fact that you go from expox To this potato bag product support potatoes in the microwave and then he gets sued because it's his latest advert and
24:53 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_02]: their customers are getting steamed, baked, based interviews, these legal issues, and then you have them going on to social to do the record.
25:03 --> 25:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah.
25:04 --> 25:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Two is followers, which are called doors, the door announcement.
25:09 --> 25:10 [SPEAKER_02]: That's fantastic.
25:10 --> 25:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Really good.
25:11 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like I support your class action.
25:14 --> 25:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Lots of, I too was misled by, you know, the potato by the company.
25:19 --> 25:21 [SPEAKER_02]: And, um,
25:21 --> 25:22 [SPEAKER_02]: what our incorporation is.
25:22 --> 25:23 [SPEAKER_02]: It's so good.
25:24 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's tragic for Damard Davis, but like it is played really well here.
25:31 --> 25:42 [SPEAKER_03]: But it's funny as I don't know if this is being played as a joke, and it is really funny, but everybody knows you don't put a potato in a microwave with their punctured holes in the rice.
25:43 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_03]: You do.
25:44 --> 25:50 [SPEAKER_03]: It's the same thing as you don't put tin foil or aluminum foil in a microwave as we learned.
25:51 --> 25:53 [SPEAKER_03]: We don't do that, right?
25:53 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_03]: So the idea that everybody's getting these massive steam berms from these potato bags that are being put in the microwave or the oven.
26:02 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
26:02 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_03]: It is really bad things are going absolutely awful.
26:06 --> 26:09 [SPEAKER_03]: You can tell he's just a base after he does his Insta apology.
26:09 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_03]: He effectively says he's going to be taking a break and he's going, I don't know what's going to happen here.
26:15 --> 26:16 [SPEAKER_03]: He's pulling out overdue bills.
26:17 --> 26:18 [SPEAKER_03]: I do love the line from his agent though.
26:19 --> 26:22 [SPEAKER_03]: You shouldn't have counted on the future until the check is in your hands.
26:23 --> 26:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is effectively what he's saying.
26:25 --> 26:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So he also says you've never said that before.
26:31 --> 26:47 [SPEAKER_03]: the advice comes in after the fact of course it does that's what agents do right they'll tell you you know in hindsight maybe we did the wrong thing here but luckily he gets a fun call from Josh Gad right at his worst moment yeah telling him everybody's ready for cash grab two day
26:47 --> 26:49 [SPEAKER_02]: get the band back together again.
26:49 --> 26:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
26:50 --> 26:51 [SPEAKER_03]: The movie.
26:51 --> 26:54 [SPEAKER_03]: So it does feel like this lasted a while, right?
26:54 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_03]: It does feel like it lasted a year or two.
26:56 --> 26:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
26:57 --> 26:59 [SPEAKER_03]: You want to make two movies back to back that quickly, which is.
27:00 --> 27:04 [SPEAKER_03]: So it presumed it's about six months to a year that he's had the line to life, right?
27:04 --> 27:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess so.
27:05 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not a bit more.
27:07 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, it felt like
27:09 --> 27:22 [SPEAKER_02]: it was a good year, I think, because it is, it's the highs, it's getting up to the highs, you know, the the premiere of cash grab everything and then to the low low, because it's the fact that
27:23 --> 27:44 [SPEAKER_02]: He's doing the social media to the donob's in his car, his bills when the car's like he's lost his home, yeah, that kind of feel to it We don't know for sure, and it's literally I mean at one point I thought oh, is this almost like he's gonna drive off the cliff or something like whatever you know I thought there was
27:44 --> 27:55 [SPEAKER_02]: some kind of him just at being as low as low as low, being as low as low, and then he gets the angelic call for cash grab too.
27:55 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and now that you mentioned there's a couple of moments that he's been drinking really heavily as well, as in there there's the moment backstage before the
28:04 --> 28:14 [SPEAKER_03]: host starts to take the piss out of him, where he's about to ask for water and then change the to some ice go along with his brand liquor that he's been knock it back.
28:14 --> 28:16 [SPEAKER_03]: So he's not on the right side.
28:17 --> 28:27 [SPEAKER_03]: He has another vision of the black hole with the white doors inside of when he's on set, a bait to go and do his big stunt for the day.
28:27 --> 28:32 [SPEAKER_03]: He is delighted to be there, but you wonder
28:32 --> 28:34 [SPEAKER_03]: way the that he's acting as well.
28:34 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because some.
28:35 --> 28:37 [SPEAKER_02]: There's some other story from drinking.
28:37 --> 28:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
28:38 --> 28:40 [SPEAKER_02]: There's a sense he's out of filter.
28:40 --> 28:44 [SPEAKER_02]: He's not balanced or, you know, there's something wrong.
28:44 --> 28:49 [SPEAKER_02]: And you see, you know, in the scene, then that they do where it's
28:49 --> 29:12 [SPEAKER_02]: escaping an arm a truck filled with money like a security truck and you know they're passing through the money bags through his character and see them coming out of the truck onto the stage as it's being filmed and then it's time for all the crew to escape the truck as well and you have
29:12 --> 29:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Josh Gads character going first and he goes through but he he kind of just hit that gurgles and spits out like it's always like water yeah rather than vomit and yeah or the remains of Josh Gads yeah all the remains of Josh Gads put he never comes through on the other side and and he
29:35 --> 29:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Do our nose something's gone wrong?
29:38 --> 29:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, well, in that moment.
29:39 --> 29:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Definitely.
29:40 --> 29:48 [SPEAKER_02]: And we have no notion of where Josh Gaud has disappeared to, or whether he's in fact still alive.
29:49 --> 29:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it cuts to Maria Lopez back on entertainment news, effectively saying that
29:54 --> 30:00 [SPEAKER_03]: The Department of Damage Control are still looking for Josh Gad, but he's still gone.
30:01 --> 30:02 [SPEAKER_03]: He is disappeared.
30:02 --> 30:05 [SPEAKER_03]: So he has never been found, effectively.
30:05 --> 30:08 [SPEAKER_03]: And because of this, the Dorman clause is put in place.
30:08 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_03]: A clause now appears that nobody with superpowers can ever work in cinema again.
30:15 --> 30:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, to avoid that tragedy.
30:16 --> 30:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
30:18 --> 30:20 [SPEAKER_03]: And I love this
30:20 --> 30:32 [SPEAKER_03]: the entertainment news with Mario Lopez to Simon on the phone sitting on the set of whatever show that he's working on that week and he is just watching the story unfold.
30:32 --> 30:37 [SPEAKER_03]: His eyes are wide and his mates are just covered by his hand going, oh my god.
30:38 --> 30:39 [SPEAKER_03]: There's really good endings.
30:39 --> 30:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Fantastic.
30:40 --> 30:44 [SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder if this is on the set of the show of the rookie.
30:44 --> 30:59 [SPEAKER_03]: He walks past the sandstakes, but we see there as a police car, we see some action going on, we don't see any of the major actors from the show where it's like that, but it's just because they said that they were accident has happened on the set of the rookie where in the last episode where
30:59 --> 31:05 [SPEAKER_03]: a portaloo had exploded, and Simon seems to be under a lot of stress, and moving very fast to go outside.
31:05 --> 31:15 [SPEAKER_03]: We saw the photograph of it as well, the exploded toilet, which was outside of warehouse, and he's inside the warehouse coming out, so I wonder if that's on the set of the rookie.
31:16 --> 31:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it could be.
31:17 --> 31:30 [SPEAKER_02]: It's really good and it kind of pulls it back then into the present with or near present with Simon Williams and the story.
31:31 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Really good.
31:32 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, excellent.
31:33 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to understand why he's so concerned about
31:37 --> 31:51 [SPEAKER_03]: somebody find his powers because they are very powerful if he explodes on stage and causes a mass of fire or causes some kind of explosion, killing somebody then, you know, it's the end of his career.
31:51 --> 32:04 [SPEAKER_03]: And what they mentioned before was that this clause is in every movie because the insurance would be too much to cover a member of cast that could damage everybody on
32:04 --> 32:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, put an interesting episode.
32:05 --> 32:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is because I think ultimately it's the thing then the moving forward.
32:12 --> 32:16 [SPEAKER_02]: It's possibly the ultimate sort of destroyer of his career.
32:16 --> 32:19 [SPEAKER_02]: It's the thing that's constantly got him on edge.
32:19 --> 32:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, he does well in the auditions and then, you know, yes, he overthinks stuff as well.
32:24 --> 32:33 [SPEAKER_02]: But on top of that, he's got this other layer of absolute stress, which means that he never gets to be the main actor.
32:33 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_02]: It's always a cameo or a bit past or something, you know?
32:38 --> 32:40 [SPEAKER_02]: And so, yeah, really interesting.
32:40 --> 32:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
32:40 --> 32:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but Derek, and I think with that, do you have any notes from the episode?
32:47 --> 32:55 [SPEAKER_03]: I just have one note and I'm not sure of it because I couldn't find it in the credits and the episodes haven't come out, but I'm almost certain.
32:55 --> 33:14 [SPEAKER_03]: because I've seen these guys quite a lot that the directors of the movie cash grab with Josh Gad I think those directors are Benson and Warhead who we know really well here on the podcast Benson and Warhead directed lots of episodes of Moon Nice and the directed the final two episodes of the Retooled Daredevil Born Again
33:14 --> 33:33 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just I've seen them in interviews loads and I I thought it was them, but we only see them on screen and talking about the fact that they need something for this crew and cast grab to do that know where the crew and the plan I could do and that's when Josh gets the idea that they could maybe use Dormann and they're in their movie.
33:33 --> 33:37 [SPEAKER_03]: I just love the idea that these two directors could be double jolly as effectively.
33:37 --> 33:42 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, pop on over here, do a little bit on one demand, pop back over and do moon night.
33:42 --> 33:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, absolutely.
33:43 --> 33:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
33:44 --> 33:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's great.
33:45 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully it is.
33:46 --> 33:51 [SPEAKER_03]: They're not in the credits at least in the previews that we have available to us.
33:51 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe when it's released, they'll take credit for us though.
33:54 --> 33:55 [SPEAKER_03]: So how does it look, guys?
33:55 --> 33:56 [SPEAKER_03]: See if you see them.
33:56 --> 33:59 [SPEAKER_03]: John, have it yourself any notes with the episode?
33:59 --> 34:01 [SPEAKER_02]: No notes from me.
34:01 --> 34:01 [SPEAKER_03]: No.
34:01 --> 34:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, do you defend episode four of Marvel's Wonderman, Dorman?
34:06 --> 34:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I do defend this episode.
34:08 --> 34:12 [SPEAKER_02]: I'll give this four door knobs out of five.
34:12 --> 34:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
34:13 --> 34:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I really like this as a little self-contained number.
34:16 --> 34:20 [SPEAKER_02]: And I choose a bit of a surprise to me because we watched it through initially.
34:20 --> 34:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I did fall asleep and I kind of wondered what was going on.
34:24 --> 34:25 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's because we've been...
34:25 --> 34:28 [SPEAKER_03]: of these episodes back to back the first time.
34:28 --> 34:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I was kind of wondering what the, you know, the noir feel was with the black and white.
34:35 --> 34:39 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think this is just a really nice, contained story.
34:39 --> 34:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it hits to the heart of, you know, part of Simon's anxiety.
34:46 --> 34:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
34:46 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Why he's not able to get to that next level in his acting career.
34:55 --> 34:57 [SPEAKER_02]: effectively he's banned from doing what he's doing.
34:57 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's not even that he might kill someone and that it's also on top of that.
35:02 --> 35:06 [SPEAKER_02]: It's the fact that well, if they do find out, he's in even more trouble.
35:06 --> 35:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Even if nothing bad happens, it's just it's an outright ban.
35:12 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_02]: But I just love how this sort of
35:15 --> 35:29 [SPEAKER_02]: brings us the story of Demar Dormand Davis, you know, a bit-part comic character from the Great League of Enges and played by Byron Bowers.
35:29 --> 35:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I like the fact that he starts off as...
35:32 --> 35:53 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm happy with where I am to, yet no, I'll take that paycheck with benefits as a personal assistant, then it sort of grows where you get celebrity status, it builds, it builds, it crescendos, and then ultimately it comes and bites him as, you know, his, his powers become
35:53 --> 36:08 [SPEAKER_02]: to well-known the catchphrase becomes pastiche and he ends up the the brands that he's doing that he's advertising don't want him anymore or just become those
36:08 --> 36:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Almost, QVC type, you know, it's almost like the startup runs that may work.
36:13 --> 36:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
36:13 --> 36:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Like where you've got a shouting person.
36:15 --> 36:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
36:15 --> 36:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's how he plays it.
36:17 --> 36:22 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, putting the potatoes in the bag to put into the, the, the microwave.
36:22 --> 36:26 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, I am, I am absolutely picturing who you're picturing.
36:26 --> 36:28 [SPEAKER_03]: John, it's the guy that does the pair of steam.
36:28 --> 36:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is.
36:29 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_03]: It's probably because of the potato burns from the steam that you've got that taken place.
36:36 --> 36:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you've got a lot of burns from this power of steam.
36:40 --> 36:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
36:41 --> 36:51 [SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, I mean, I kind of, I quite enjoyed this as a little self-contained sort of side story and there is
36:51 --> 37:14 [SPEAKER_02]: put feeds into the wiser sort of super-powered world of the MCU here in in one-to-man, and part of Simon's anxiety and also in a way him telling the story to Trevor, who had no idea of this person and of the door-man clause.
37:14 --> 37:31 [SPEAKER_03]: In prison, then captured by the actual man in Shonkshi's dad and then in Taelao, off the reservation completely for a few years, so maybe he wouldn't be keeping up with the same and he uses, and it doesn't matter to him, because he's not super varied either, so it wouldn't be perfect in Trevor's Africa.
37:31 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, I would give this four door knobs out of fantastic, fantastic.
37:38 --> 37:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I really enjoyed this, I must say, I love this,
37:41 --> 37:45 [SPEAKER_03]: very straightforward comic book origin for the character as well.
37:45 --> 37:46 [SPEAKER_03]: It's something that you don't get to see very often.
37:46 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_03]: I love the idea that he just happened to come across some random give from rock song corporation and then that offered super pairs.
37:54 --> 37:58 [SPEAKER_03]: I also love the overarching tale here.
37:58 --> 38:00 [SPEAKER_03]: This is a person who is very happy in their life.
38:00 --> 38:01 [SPEAKER_03]: They lived in LA.
38:01 --> 38:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Perfectly happy to be going to work every night since we be enjoying their life and having a good home,
38:10 --> 38:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Bam, here comes Hollywood in and just completely destroys his life.
38:15 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_03]: We find out at the end that he is now being poked and prodded by the DDOC.
38:19 --> 38:26 [SPEAKER_03]: They have taken him in and he's possibly another person that's over in the raft, the half empty super parod prism.
38:26 --> 38:35 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, so everything that's happened to him was caused by one moment in his life that was perfectly happy and he ended off.
38:35 --> 38:39 [SPEAKER_03]: clashing with Hollywood and ending off, coming at the other side with his life destroyed.
38:39 --> 38:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So, I really like that tale.
38:42 --> 38:43 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a good side story.
38:44 --> 38:53 [SPEAKER_03]: And for a character who's trying to find his place in Hollywood and trying to guess his big break to be the one that's telling this story in Simon Williams.
38:53 --> 38:58 [SPEAKER_03]: It works really, really well as a nice, a nice diversion from the main first three episodes.
38:58 --> 38:59 [SPEAKER_03]: So, really, that's it.
38:59 --> 39:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Really enjoyed.
39:00 --> 39:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
39:01 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Good stuff.
39:02 --> 39:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I think we need to go to the club, John.
39:04 --> 39:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I think we do.
39:06 --> 39:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
39:06 --> 39:10 [SPEAKER_02]: For this episode, fellow quizzes and fellow defenders.
39:11 --> 39:16 [SPEAKER_02]: For this episode alone, we are heading to the Wonder Man Wilcox Club.
39:16 --> 39:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
39:17 --> 39:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I just love whiskey on the Rocks Arm.
39:21 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Very good.
39:22 --> 39:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I guess.
39:24 --> 39:25 [SPEAKER_02]: the same time.
39:25 --> 39:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought you were exhausted now.
39:27 --> 39:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Excellent.
39:28 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, do you have a question for this week's pub quiz?
39:31 --> 39:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I certainly do.
39:32 --> 39:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, fellow defenders, fellow quizzes, question four.
39:36 --> 39:42 [SPEAKER_02]: What song is the J-Gad singing in the club just before it goes on fire?
39:42 --> 39:46 [SPEAKER_03]: And it is a cover version of the very famous Josh Gadd tune.
39:47 --> 39:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Let's do that, yeah?
39:48 --> 39:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
39:49 --> 39:50 [SPEAKER_03]: So it's easy one this time.
39:50 --> 39:53 [SPEAKER_03]: The episode didn't have a huge amount of things that we haven't talked about.
39:53 --> 39:55 [SPEAKER_03]: So I think this is a really cool one though, really enjoyed it.
39:55 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_03]: John, do you want to give the question one more time?
39:57 --> 39:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
39:58 --> 40:03 [SPEAKER_03]: What song is the J-Gad singing in the club just before it goes on fire?
40:03 --> 40:04 [SPEAKER_03]: A really funny moment too.
40:05 --> 40:06 [SPEAKER_03]: That is the fourth question of it.
40:07 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_03]: When you get to the end of the series and have all the correct answers to hand, email them to us at feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com and you can be in the chance of getting your hands on some Wonderman goodies.
40:18 --> 40:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, excellent stuff, good luck fellow quizzes.
40:21 --> 40:23 [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm, absolutely best luck.
40:23 --> 40:26 [SPEAKER_03]: And we have some feedback in from our wonderful fellow defenders.
40:26 --> 40:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Good stuff.
40:27 --> 40:30 [SPEAKER_03]: First up, we've got feedback on Facebook from Mathematician.
40:30 --> 40:33 [SPEAKER_03]: He says, I'm afraid I need your help with this one, boys.
40:33 --> 40:36 [SPEAKER_03]: Enjoy this effort, the least so far.
40:36 --> 40:45 [SPEAKER_03]: It reminded me of that one episode of Daredevil that had nothing to do with the rest of the series, except the Daredevil episode was one of the best of the season whereas this, I didn't enjoy as much as the first three.
40:45 --> 40:54 [SPEAKER_03]: All I can take from it is that a disaster was caused by an actor with superpowers, poor Josh God had disappeared and I wonder if this will hinder Simon if his powers become common knowledge.
40:54 --> 40:58 [SPEAKER_03]: looking forward to hearing what you guys make of it because I'm a scratch in my head a bit.
40:58 --> 41:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Get your ever back on my TV screen.
41:02 --> 41:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that might be it.
41:03 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_03]: I think if you've been really enjoying Trevor and Simon's time together on the show, once they're off the screen, if that's the only thing that's really been hooking yet every week, it's quite difficult to turn your attention to a completely different character for this offshoot episode.
41:18 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_03]: It is.
41:18 --> 41:22 [SPEAKER_02]: It is a bit of the risk of this episode.
41:23 --> 41:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I can certainly tell where you're coming from, mathematician.
41:26 --> 41:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I do think that Josh
41:29 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_02]: absolutely really good in this episode and you know I need a sense he's got to fill the part for both Trevor and Simon and not being present on the show for this episode but I think ultimately it's almost
41:46 --> 42:00 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's that thought bubble, it's that conversation that's happening between Trevor and Simon around why Simon is so much in his hair, you know, so nervous about people really understanding who he is.
42:00 --> 42:08 [SPEAKER_02]: So it kind of links from that notion of, you know, hit his mom's conversation with Trevor about
42:08 --> 42:27 [SPEAKER_02]: even if he didn't know it, he was alone and was lonely and I think it kind of connects a bit into that and it's about just showing the audience the conversation following what he says in the car as they leave his mom's and drive back.
42:28 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_02]: But I agree it can take you out of
42:32 --> 42:33 [SPEAKER_02]: the momentum of this.
42:33 --> 42:36 [SPEAKER_03]: I think this and I suppose that's the good thing.
42:36 --> 42:45 [SPEAKER_03]: If we're looking for good things by dropping all the episodes back to back, you have an episode just beforehand, whichever in Simon this is the explanation and then you go straight on to the next episode after it.
42:45 --> 43:00 [SPEAKER_03]: So now we know why there's this strict law in Hollywood that nobody with power is going to act in any capacity at all and why Simon's so scared about anybody finding it that
43:00 --> 43:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks Mathematician, and I'm back with the rest of the feedback on my own, as usual for these episodes.
43:06 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks to the rest of you who've been sending in your feedback as you've been watching the episodes.
43:09 --> 43:14 [SPEAKER_03]: First up, an email in from Coffee and Vodka, of course, who says greetings fellow ding-dong defenders.
43:14 --> 43:17 [SPEAKER_03]: What would have been a couple of throwaway lines about the doorman claws.
43:17 --> 43:22 [SPEAKER_03]: was made into a full episode, but they even made this a good move and excellent episode.
43:22 --> 43:30 [SPEAKER_03]: The performances and effects were as great as ever, though I did expect to see just a top half of Josh Gadd, a complete with spilling gusts, to make the other side of our tragic soup.
43:31 --> 43:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Call it the difference between Amazon and Disney.
43:33 --> 43:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Still a good rise in full story with fire reaching social implications on tips at 5, 4.5 ggongads, fateful indigestion and clunky catchphrases
43:45 --> 43:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there was definitely a moment in that scene where I thought we'd see a part of God coming at the other side.
43:53 --> 44:03 [SPEAKER_03]: But to have him completely disappear, I never reappear again and then to be called, on the Access Hollywood story, that's been months ago and we haven't heard anything from him again, it's really interesting.
44:04 --> 44:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I love the fact that Josh God's been over on his Instagram or on his social saying that he will return in Avengers
44:12 --> 44:13 [SPEAKER_03]: We may see him back.
44:13 --> 44:14 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you will.
44:14 --> 44:15 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's a good joke.
44:15 --> 44:31 [SPEAKER_03]: So we may see him just reappearing there But yeah, it is a really good episode really enjoyed this one even though it's very different I'm so glad we're starting to see more and more feedback in from from listeners and from fellow Marvel fans saying there's one of the favorite episodes of the series as well
44:31 --> 44:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Thank you so much for that coffee vodka over on discord fill up I says well now We know why superheroes can't act nice bottle episode and a very creative way to show us what the dormant clause was instead of just telling us Yeah, totally agree with that.
44:45 --> 44:52 [SPEAKER_03]: It's just thought it was an interesting side line and again something else That's that that I realized after we recorded the podcast
44:52 --> 45:00 [SPEAKER_03]: This is the Black and White episode, one of the previous spotlights was where we're with by night, so an interesting way of telling the story and Black and White different from all of the other episodes.
45:01 --> 45:09 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, really cool choices that they made here, telling the story this way, so that we have an extra episode, just showing this backstory of the drama.
45:09 --> 45:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'd like to.
45:11 --> 45:26 [SPEAKER_03]: We also have feedback in from Heather Sass who says door man never watched a horror movie and it shows who puts their hands in mysterious goo poor Josh Gad just disappeared forever And now we know why super pair of people aren't allowed to act
45:26 --> 45:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Very good, Heather.
45:27 --> 45:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I was check and see if there are horror movies referenced in this universe.
45:33 --> 45:41 [SPEAKER_03]: There, like we get lots of references in the show, Wonderman, of very, a very incredible juxtapes and various different movies, for various different directors.
45:41 --> 45:44 [SPEAKER_03]: I just can't remember whether there was any.
45:44 --> 45:45 [SPEAKER_03]: horror movies reference.
45:45 --> 45:47 [SPEAKER_03]: So maybe there's no horror movies in the MCU.
45:48 --> 45:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe that's as real life is horrific enough when you're being punched in the face by aliens from outer space.
45:53 --> 45:56 [SPEAKER_03]: So maybe Dormann's never seen our movie for that reason.
45:58 --> 45:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Great stuff, thanks Heather.
45:59 --> 46:13 [SPEAKER_03]: And finally, back over on Facebook, we have free back in from Heather Wallace who says, is this Disney's answer to the boys showing what it would have been like if super-powered people were in films using their
46:13 --> 46:21 [SPEAKER_03]: If you do make it even unintentionally, be careful about being sucked in, no pun intention, on how poor Demar got his powers.
46:22 --> 46:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Very good, either.
46:23 --> 46:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's absolutely that.
46:24 --> 46:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's the cautionary tale for all of us, right?
46:28 --> 46:33 [SPEAKER_03]: In this case, Demar did not want to become a famous actor by any means.
46:33 --> 46:38 [SPEAKER_03]: He gets caught up on the whole thing once he does get pulled in to this situation.
46:38 --> 46:42 [SPEAKER_03]: And then, yeah, everything goes really, really badly for him.
46:42 --> 46:53 [SPEAKER_03]: of Josh Gad, it's all his fault for pushing him in to be coming an actor, even though that's not something that he wanted, so yeah, be careful what you wish for, I guess, is the message from this one forum for Simon.
46:53 --> 46:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, almost missed Dr.
46:55 --> 47:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Pop's feedback from Discord, he had some feedback of this episode, he said, I remember the fire distant past when Imagine Dragons released radioactive and the world was black and white at 420 lines.
47:05 --> 47:13 [SPEAKER_03]: great way to avoid boring exposition throws another studio and tell a believable tale of a rags to riches to raft.
47:14 --> 47:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Very good, Dr. Bob, yeah, yeah, the episode did feel like something as we've more out of the studio, then out of the show, something completely different for this series, especially it being in black and white as well, really, really cool, but yeah, these kind of standalone episodes that tell you the story at separate to the main story or always good fun.
47:31 --> 47:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I was looking up your reference there remembering back to when the world was black and white and 420 lines and I was kind of Is that to do with the television definition when we were kids that it was black and white and those 420 lines and Google just keeps throwing up stuff a bit for 20 Be in a drug reference.
47:48 --> 47:59 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that's what you meant But maybe it was to do with drugs And put there was apparently four hundred and five lines in a black and white TV if that's if that's what you're aiming for Let us know that's about
47:59 --> 48:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Excellent stuff.
48:00 --> 48:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks everybody so much for your feedback.
48:02 --> 48:05 [SPEAKER_03]: We'll leave back with more feedback next week on the next episode.
48:05 --> 48:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Keep sending your emails into us to feedback at tvpodcastindustry.com or pop on our Facebook group at facebook.com slash groups slash tvpodcastindustries.

48:22 --> 48:22 [SPEAKER_03]: And
48:22 --> 48:26 [SPEAKER_03]: We'd also love to hear your thoughts about the rest of Wonderman.
48:26 --> 48:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
48:27 --> 48:37 [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, fellow defenders, please subscribe and share the podcast because sharing the podcast is of course sharing the love, yes it is.
48:37 --> 48:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.

48:39 --> 48:40 [SPEAKER_03]: We'll be back next time for episode five.
48:40 --> 48:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Fanned footage.
48:42 --> 48:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Excellent stuff, yes.
48:43 --> 48:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Good to have the episode names.
48:45 --> 48:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes it is, it is.
48:47 --> 48:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Very good.
48:47 --> 48:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, thank you so much fellow defenders for joining us for our episode 4 coverage on the podcast.
48:56 --> 49:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Until next time, keep watching, keep listening, and of course keep defending.
49:01 --> 49:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Bye, bye lovelies.
