The Rats A Witcher Tale Podcast

Derek and John are back to discuss the Rats A Witcher Tale. A special feature length episode featuring Ciri's companions from the Witcher Season 4. We chat all about it in full spoiler filled detail.

Spoilers for The Rats A Witcher Tale.

Based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski and the game series "The Witcher" from CD Projekt Red

Showrunner and Lead Writer: Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich

Written by Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich and Haily Hall

Directed by Mairzee Almas

Synopsis: Following the events of the Season 4 finale, Leo Bonhart recounts to Ciri how The Rats first crossed his path. The tale centers on Mistle, a highborne woman secretly in love with her handmaiden Juniper. Their lives are torn apart when Emehr, Emperor of Nilfgaard, sends his mercenary Bert Brigden to purge towns outside imperial control. Believing Juniper dead, Mistle narrowly survives with the help of Asse, her stablehand, who escapes with her and eventually leads them to join The Rats.

As the young thieves’ opportunities dwindle, their leader Giselher proposes an ambitious heist: infiltrate a new fighting arena established by Dominik Houvenaghel and rob its vault during a major event. The vault, however, is guarded by a Jalowick, a monster that only a Witcher can kill. Desperate, The Rats recruit Brehen, a disgraced and alcoholic former Witcher infamous for abandoning a striga contract.

Training under Kayleigh and Reef, Asse prepares for his fight, but everything unravels when Mistle discovers the arena’s true purpose. It was built by Brigden, who, eager to earn Emehr’s favor, has been conducting horrific experiments to create a new kind of monster—using human subjects, including Juniper. Determined to save her, The Rats and Brehen attempt to restore Juniper’s humanity while evading Bonhart, who is hunting them to claim Brehen’s Witcher medallion.

The story culminates in a brutal clash. Brehen sacrifices himself so The Rats can escape, thwarting Bonhart—for the moment. Their flight across the Continent continues until fate brings them to Princess Cirilla of Cintra, and toward the end of their road.

00:00 --> 00:06 [SPEAKER_04]: This is the Witcher podcast on TV podcast industries We're back talking about the rats, a Witcher tale.
00:07 --> 00:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how long I was there in a cellar.
00:11 --> 00:13 [SPEAKER_00]: But I figured out how to pick the lock.
00:13 --> 00:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Worked that thing onto my fingers, played and made it to the radar.
00:17 --> 00:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Half dead, which is what I'd be if ace hadn't found me and taken me to allors.
00:24 --> 00:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how this all.
00:30 --> 00:35 [SPEAKER_01]: We all agreed when we started this game to check our feelings at the door and keep the past in the past.
00:35 --> 00:41 [SPEAKER_05]: There's a million guys like Brighlin out there who used this war to take what they want, and crush anyone who gets in their way.
00:41 --> 00:42 [SPEAKER_05]: And guess what?
00:44 --> 00:45 [SPEAKER_05]: Then we're gonna be at that fight.
00:46 --> 00:49 [SPEAKER_05]: So how about we take something from them for once, huh?
00:49 --> 00:50 [SPEAKER_00]: It would feel good.
00:51 --> 00:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Just this once.
00:52 --> 01:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, guess?
01:11 --> 01:23 [SPEAKER_04]: Welcome back fellow witchers to TV podcast industries who surprised we're back talking about the witcher for the rats a witcher tale the spinoff movie in the witcher universe I am one of your host Derek
01:23 --> 01:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Hello there fellow witches, welcome back to the continent.
01:28 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, the witcher podcast, I am one of your other hosts, John.
01:32 --> 01:34 [SPEAKER_04]: A tale of rats, rather than a rat's tale.
01:36 --> 01:38 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's your role and rat is.
01:38 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_04]: Very impressive, we are of the same vintage, that's why I reckon.
01:40 --> 01:41 [SPEAKER_04]: That's role and rat.
01:43 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_04]: No role and rat in this episode.
01:45 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_02]: No, there wasn't.
01:46 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Just the rat.
01:47 --> 02:01 [SPEAKER_04]: But this is a real surprising when I surprised John with this while we were covering the Witcher that there is this coming up and apparently this was a prequel movie but only available when you watched all 8 episodes of the show.
02:01 --> 02:10 [SPEAKER_04]: So I've had reports from some of our listeners that couldn't find it and some of them thus that tried multiple times it can start just because they haven't finished the 8th episode of the 4th season.
02:10 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
02:12 --> 02:31 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I can see why given the start of this tale of the rats, the framing device, and bought equally, it was very much a choice to have that framing device where it kind of picks up from the
02:31 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_02]: disturbing and shocking events of episode 8 that involves Leo Bonhart and the rats of course and of course yes spoiler filled discussion here on the which podcast before we go into will say you have to watch all
02:50 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_04]: Not only just to unlock this, but just so you don't get completely ruined for the fourth season because it is literally the end of the season as the start of this movie.
03:01 --> 03:06 [SPEAKER_04]: So I don't think there's anything actually else in it that would ruin things from the Witcher season 4.
03:06 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_04]: It's really stand alone other than how they book end the story for the rats.
03:13 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_04]: But if you, I don't know, there's some people that download things that don't subscribe to Netflix.
03:18 --> 03:22 [SPEAKER_04]: If you download this movie, thinking, oh, watch this before I start season 4.
03:22 --> 03:25 [SPEAKER_04]: You've completely spoiled season 4 of the word Indies, Indies.
03:25 --> 03:34 [SPEAKER_04]: So it's interesting that they use technology and lock people out from watching the episode, um, unless they watch all the episodes.
03:34 --> 03:37 [SPEAKER_04]: You couldn't even watch like the first two of the season and then jump into the, to the rats.
03:37 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, to watch our life, which is really interesting.
03:39 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
03:39 --> 03:41 [SPEAKER_02]: No, that is interesting.
03:41 --> 03:44 [SPEAKER_04]: I wonder what the show is again for other shows in the future.
03:44 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_04]: So people don't spoil themselves what in the last episode of Stranger Things or something when it comes out.
03:49 --> 03:51 [SPEAKER_04]: So you have to watch the other episode before having to do something.
03:51 --> 03:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, exactly.
03:52 --> 03:53 [SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, that's the thing.
03:53 --> 04:01 [SPEAKER_02]: It's mainly just because of the opening literally five minutes and it shows way too much.
04:01 --> 04:01 [SPEAKER_03]: It just, yeah.
04:01 --> 04:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And you could equally have just has Leo Bonhar, sharpening some knives or something.
04:09 --> 04:11 [SPEAKER_02]: and speaking to camera.
04:12 --> 04:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, almost as a monologue in some way.
04:15 --> 04:17 [SPEAKER_04]: This is how I better act, yeah.
04:17 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_04]: Cause actually, without the framing device, I think that's what I've been a really good prequel movie to watch before a season four started.
04:23 --> 04:26 [SPEAKER_04]: It would have been a great way to get to know those characters.
04:26 --> 04:32 [SPEAKER_04]: Interestingly, this actually started out as a plan for a series, it was supposed to be a spin-off series.
04:33 --> 04:40 [SPEAKER_04]: The writer for this one, Hailey Hall wrote the episode alongside Large Myth History, the show runner for the regular Witcher show.
04:40 --> 04:47 [SPEAKER_04]: She went off to develop this season, this season of a show for the rats, giving them their own spin-off within the continent, effectively.
04:48 --> 04:49 [SPEAKER_04]: And unfortunately, it didn't get
04:49 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_04]: turned into a season.
04:51 --> 04:57 [SPEAKER_04]: So the tale that we see here is taken from that idea that she had for that's been off series that wasn't commissioned.
04:57 --> 05:02 [SPEAKER_04]: So this would have been the way that it would have been introducing all of these characters of the rats.
05:02 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_04]: Probably would have expanded things in slightly different ways.
05:05 --> 05:08 [SPEAKER_04]: Some characters may not appear until later episodes of the season,
05:08 --> 05:15 [SPEAKER_04]: The Witcher that we have here, Brehan, he may not have appeared until later in the season rather than appearing in this first episode effectively.
05:15 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's interesting that we were talking about Hot Spurne, and he just didn't appear at all in this.
05:23 --> 05:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I think Hot Spurne was one of the...
05:25 --> 05:37 [SPEAKER_02]: people that the rats met up with on the road ultimately ended off and being sort of crippled or at least heavily injured by Siri.
05:37 --> 05:49 [SPEAKER_02]: And realizing that he had kind of, I was at least in on this trap to ensnare the rats in the final episode.
05:49 --> 05:50 [SPEAKER_02]: So
05:50 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, we don't get him because we were discussing at the time, oh, I wanted it if he will be someone that you see in this TV movie extended episode, whatever you want to call this, but no, it's not.
06:03 --> 06:11 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's quite focused as well and kind of looks primarily that glant off and there.
06:11 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_02]: meeting with Leo Bonhardt to begin with, but ultimately it focuses in a sense mostly on
06:27 --> 06:39 [SPEAKER_04]: I think that makes sense, again, if we're going to tie it into the show, but I presume had a computer series we would learn much more about all the rest of the characters are in here.
06:40 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_04]: We learned little bits extra of who the characters are, but this is as you say this is much more focused on.
06:46 --> 07:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, missile, um, which makes sense because that's the character that you probably want to know a little bit more about since you was so connected to Siri Um, I think we probably should get into talking about the movie itself and talk about spoilers and all all the main details that should mean Yes, let us get into our spoiler-filled discussion of the rats, a witcher tale, uh, Derek, who gave us what we're when and how?
07:10 --> 07:15 [SPEAKER_04]: Well, of course, once again, this is based on the book series by Andreas Svetkowski and the Game Series from CD Projekt Red.
07:16 --> 07:22 [SPEAKER_04]: A show winner for the Witcher Overall is of course, learn with his rich, who is the writer alongside Haley Hall this time.
07:23 --> 07:26 [SPEAKER_04]: Haley Hall is the staff for Eyeshron Season 1 and Road Episode 6 rare species.
07:26 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_04]: By Episode 2, Haley was an executive story editor for the show and Road Episode 5, turn your back and Road Season 3 Episode 3 would be union before going off to develop the rats as a spin-off, which eventually became this movie as I mentioned earlier
07:39 --> 07:41 [SPEAKER_04]: The director for this episode is Marzia Almas.
07:42 --> 07:45 [SPEAKER_04]: We've covered lots of Marzia's shows all the way back to Jessica Jones.
07:45 --> 07:49 [SPEAKER_04]: We also love Shadow and Bone and the key which Marzia was involved in.
07:49 --> 07:53 [SPEAKER_04]: But Marzia also directed one of the best episodes of the Sand Man she had.
07:53 --> 07:56 [SPEAKER_04]: It's directed season one episode five of the Sand River wings.
07:56 --> 08:00 [SPEAKER_04]: The episode about death and dream together in the waking world.
08:00 --> 08:02 [SPEAKER_04]: So, excellent episode of that show.
08:02 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_04]: We've just finished covering the second season of the Sand Man.
08:05 --> 08:08 [SPEAKER_04]: So, really appreciative of having Marzia work on that show.
08:08 --> 08:38 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely great great great episode that from season one was really really good highly recommend anybody just to jump into that even if you don't want to watch all of the sandman have a look at that episode and see if it strikes your interest yeah and that one and I think if you're a horror fan then the diner who yeah what was that the John John does yeah yeah and check that one out as well but yeah that's that's pretty horrific that's
08:38 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_04]: But John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with your synopsis for the rats?
08:41 --> 08:43 [SPEAKER_04]: I wish you tail.
08:43 --> 08:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
08:44 --> 08:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Following the events of season 4, the O'Bon Hart recounts to Siri how the rats first cross his path.
08:51 --> 08:56 [SPEAKER_02]: The tale centres on missile, a high-born woman secretly in love with their hand-making juniper.
08:56 --> 09:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Their lives are torn apart when Ema, Emperor of Nilfgaard, senses mercenary burnt, bridging to purge towns outside Imperial control.
09:06 --> 09:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Leaving Juniper dead, missile narrowly survives with the help of Asat.
09:11 --> 09:16 [SPEAKER_02]: her stable hand, who escapes with her and eventually leads them to join the rats.
09:17 --> 09:36 [SPEAKER_02]: As the young thieves, opportunities dwindle their leader, gazelle her, proposes an ambitious heist, infiltrate a new fighting arena established by Dominic, Huvanagl, and Robert's vault, drawing a major event, the vault, however, is guarded by a jallowick, a monster that only a witcher can kill.
09:36 --> 09:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Desperate, the rats recruit Brahim, a disgraced and alcoholic former witcher, infamous for abandoning a streaker contract.
09:46 --> 09:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Training on Decaly and Reef, Acer prepares for his fight, but everything unravels were missile discovers the arena's true purpose.
09:54 --> 10:06 [SPEAKER_02]: It was built by Briggs and who eager to earn Emy's favor has been conducting horrific
10:06 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_02]: determined to save her, the rats and Brehan attempt to restore Juniper's humanity while evading Bonhart, who is hunting them to claim Brehan's Witcher Medallion.
10:17 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_02]: The story culminates in a brutal clash, Brehan sacrifices himself so the rats can escape, thwarting Bonhart for the moment.
10:26 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_02]: their flight across the continent continues until fate brings them to Princess Rilla of Sinhtra and towards the end of their own range.
10:36 --> 10:56 [SPEAKER_04]: Slats the Rats, all on a trap, once again, sprung and got Ayurvedus, but yeah, this would have been the first tale that we saw of the Rats, as you mentioned earlier on, quite as great forward idea, they have a plan, they have a heist, things don't go exactly as they planned,
10:56 --> 10:57 [SPEAKER_04]: to go and meet Cyril?
10:57 --> 10:58 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely.
10:58 --> 11:10 [SPEAKER_02]: The rats are doing what the rats do which is stealing from people and and increasingly need to get this bigger job because of the war on the constant because of the attacks
11:11 --> 11:41 [SPEAKER_02]: the genuine fear and swirling around wartime and then the size of the pots are getting smaller and smaller so we see them at a smaller highest where they manage to steal money but it will you know after buying food and replacement supplies and you know it will be two days
11:41 --> 12:05 [SPEAKER_02]: This is how they get themselves to Dominique Hugo Varkals, and I'm a real arena Whether it's a big fighting and betting scene, which is ultimately to rob this arena of all the bets being made on the fighters So they just need that bigger job
12:05 --> 12:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Interestingly, as well, with Dominic Hovenagl and the reason for that sort of relationship with Leo Bonhart, so to speak, is because Leo Bonhart is Hovenagl's cousin.
12:18 --> 12:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and so it's purely he's there on family business really to secure his cousin's investments and to sort of watch
12:34 --> 12:37 [SPEAKER_04]: difficult to guess what Leo says because he arrives.
12:38 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_04]: He's unexpected, but people know who he is, of course.
12:41 --> 12:43 [SPEAKER_04]: And he just says that it's a lot of investment from my cousin.
12:43 --> 12:47 [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's only, it's only proper that I should be interested in this.
12:48 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_04]: It's just not very clear whether he's been sent there to dumb because dumb thinks something's happened or is concerned about the people that are responsible for it or just simply that Leo is concerned about how much money his cousin is pouring
13:03 --> 13:09 [SPEAKER_04]: But he is, again, delicious in this episode or in this movie.
13:10 --> 13:13 [SPEAKER_04]: Just such a great job of this character every time I see him on screen.
13:13 --> 13:22 [SPEAKER_04]: He just creeps me out in the way that he delivers his lines, and the way that he twists things to his own interest.
13:23 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's actually interesting by the end of it.
13:26 --> 13:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm wondering, you know, is he...
13:28 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Does he have a blessing or a charm or a curse around him that allows him to be so good slash lucky in warfare?
13:40 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe.
13:40 --> 13:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Or is it just simply his own training because he is brutal and even where he seems to be losing, it's kind of he turns it around and it's like, oh,
13:54 --> 14:00 [SPEAKER_02]: He's thanking his opponent for going for longer than he thought he would do.
14:00 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's interesting, you know, given the world in which the Witcher takes place, is there something that he has done to all bestow this kind of,
14:11 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_02]: certainty on him, you know, or is he just, is it just pure arrogance?
14:16 --> 14:20 [SPEAKER_04]: And I think that's one of the things I was quite surprised at surprised us.
14:21 --> 14:39 [SPEAKER_04]: I had thought because of the connections in Season 4 that we would have heard a bit more of his character who is, where he comes from, I had thought at a point because of how he was introduced in the Witcher Season 4 with Witcher Medallion's all-around as neck that we would hear that at some point in the past.
14:39 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_04]: he had Witcher training but turned bad almost like he went to the dark side and fought against his brothers.
14:44 --> 14:45 [SPEAKER_04]: It's not really about that.
14:46 --> 14:56 [SPEAKER_04]: In fact, his arrival here in the episode you see him with one witcher Medallion, he's only killed one witcher in the past and he's kind of interested in taking another Witcher Medallion.
14:56 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_04]: That's where he gets his interest in and taken a brand.
15:00 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_04]: But
15:01 --> 15:15 [SPEAKER_04]: not much war developed not much more behind it and I would guess he was going to be the major villain if the rats continued into a series and we would learn more about it but I just expected more on his intro than he just happened to be in the air.
15:15 --> 15:25 [SPEAKER_04]: But one thing I will say the connections between how season 4 of the Witcher play and how the rats play, one of the big kind of interesting things is
15:26 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_04]: What's happening on the continent overall is the mass of war that's going on in the background almost, mainly between the North Guardians, the North Landers, and what we saw all the way through it, season four was, that's the backdrop of what's happening with our major characters with Siri with Geralt and with Yetifer, and here with the rats, they are the young characters who are
15:50 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_04]: trying to make their way in the continent with the backdrop of war going on and with those jobs that they would have been able to take and would have been able to survive all drying up.
15:59 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_04]: The reason why they're all working together is because they need to take bigger and bigger jobs that can't do things on their own anymore that would have left them live.
16:07 --> 16:13 [SPEAKER_04]: So that's kind of the big connection I suppose between why this is happening now.
16:13 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_04]: instead of happening four or five years previously or in the future because the backdrop is that war is happening and is affecting everybody in the continent in different ways.
16:23 --> 16:23 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely.
16:24 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_04]: But as usual, the way we talk about our coverage of the Witcher is just to pick out our major moments from the show.
16:30 --> 16:33 [SPEAKER_04]: John, what's your big moment from the rats, a witch tale?
16:33 --> 16:41 [SPEAKER_02]: And the big moment I've picked actually is the Jalawick, aka Juniper who is Missiles Formalover.
16:42 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:42 --> 17:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I think firstly because as a monster, as a creature, very cool kind of design, this notion almost like a spider form or a kind of a scorpion form with the pincers and the spiky legs.
17:01 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_02]: quite frightening.
17:02 --> 17:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Like I do like how it's introduced where you have Acer and Missile Investigating the vault where all the bets all the money from the bets is going to be lowered down and be kept safe and it's Missile says but actually the lock on the door is really
17:23 --> 17:47 [SPEAKER_02]: crap is very good to break but that's because you have this jallwick in the same area and so I kind of like the introduction of it and I like the fact that you know at least to begin with missile has no idea that it's juniper it propels the needs for further muscle within the rats and hence
17:47 --> 17:51 [SPEAKER_02]: approaching Brayhan to come on board, which is really good.
17:52 --> 18:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I think what I like about the yellow work and the fact that Juniper is the person from Bert Briggdon's prostitutes that he is used and shipped around the continent.
18:05 --> 18:10 [SPEAKER_02]: They've effectively experimented on her to create this month's.
18:10 --> 18:18 [SPEAKER_02]: and Brygden has a image that has effectively developed and formed this jallowick from Juniper.
18:19 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_02]: You have Brygden then here wanting to duel cross-hoof an eagle as well.
18:25 --> 18:28 [SPEAKER_02]: But with the sight of Leo Bonhardt, the mage gets.
18:28 --> 18:48 [SPEAKER_02]: twitchy and makes a run for it and he's not asked for any of that but he you know it links to the wider continental war in that that he wants to give it to and and bestow it upon the emperor and the air of Nilfgaard so that he becomes in favor of him
18:48 --> 18:56 [SPEAKER_02]: And they are, yes, but also that, and this is a new secret war weapon that MIA can use.
18:56 --> 19:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And so, just from season four, I'm wondering, is that the thing that MIA goes to down in kind of the crypt area of the white flame?
19:06 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_04]: It's maybe of the same type, yeah, yeah, just want to clarify one thing, just because it's a big thing for Brieggden, they are using some money from Dom, um,
19:17 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_04]: To develop this but he's never gonna be giving this to me or I'm never gonna be gifting it to a mere He's selling it to me.
19:24 --> 19:35 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's what he's basically saying nobody'll mind how we got there in the end Because everybody's gonna make it big if we create the war machine the war monster that wins this war for a mere We'll be showered and gold.
19:35 --> 19:38 [SPEAKER_04]: So this is their own kind of heist plan almost
19:38 --> 19:46 [SPEAKER_04]: And so while I don't think it's going to be the thing that Amira was looking into the cell out, this is definitely the start of it.
19:46 --> 20:01 [SPEAKER_04]: So the other person in this power play to create the monster may have continued developing monsters and may have brought that to Amira to take out, so that may be what the connection will be into season five.
20:01 --> 20:02 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely.
20:02 --> 20:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's kind of interesting in that connection.
20:08 --> 20:29 [SPEAKER_02]: The jallicals when it becomes a bit of a fight complicated as Baron and the rats are fighting Leo Bonhar, and they've been sort of discovered by him, and that's mainly because at the same time as having one horrendous monster that they have to fight in Leo Bonhar, there is another
20:29 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_02]: horrific monster, also attacking them in the form of this Jalawick, which then is complicates it even more because missile recognises and realizes after Brayhen has used this extraction elixir on a that it is in fact Juniper and it links back to the fact that missile has been seeing this ghost of shadow it kind of it made her freeze on the
20:54 --> 21:15 [SPEAKER_02]: opening heist that we had and it is also the fact that you know this was missiles handmade and lover and that ultimately got caught when the the the the area of
21:15 --> 21:32 [SPEAKER_02]: basically being attacked by Bert Bridgen on the orders of Amir in order to sort of take down rebels and to incite violence against him and this takes out missiles, parents and her brother
21:32 --> 21:48 [SPEAKER_02]: but also ultimately means that Juniper and her end up as Bert Briggdon's trophies that he then will sell and and pin powder effectively to the highest bidder in his brothels that are across the continent.
21:49 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Missile manages to escape the
21:51 --> 22:01 [SPEAKER_02]: but she just think Juniper is gone dead whatever until she recognizes Juniper as this mutilated jallowick.
22:01 --> 22:13 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, like it, you know, if you try to think of all the villains that we've seen throughout the Witcher, most of them are reasonably complicated and kind of multifaceted.
22:13 --> 22:20 [SPEAKER_04]: Burberryton is the most villainous character we have seen in a very long time in the Witcher universe.
22:20 --> 22:28 [SPEAKER_04]: Not only is he someone that goes in and burns Dan tense that that are suspected to have loyalty's different to a mere.
22:29 --> 22:40 [SPEAKER_04]: He takes all of the women and puts them into sex slavery by creating sex trafficking, moving them out of the, moving them out of their local hands and bringing them with them to different places.
22:41 --> 22:43 [SPEAKER_04]: And then once he's done
22:43 --> 22:49 [SPEAKER_04]: he'll use you in experimentation to turn you into a monster that will potentially get even more money for him.
22:49 --> 22:53 [SPEAKER_04]: He is such a horrible, horrible character.
22:54 --> 23:12 [SPEAKER_04]: Throughout the episode from beginning to end, even just the idea that he slaughtered missiles, father, mother, for no particular reason, and then slaughtered both of her younger brothers, and then takes her the high-born princess of
23:12 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_04]: You're all the same, really.
23:14 --> 23:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
23:16 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_02]: So I kind of, I just think it's, it really just links and adds connections throughout the whole of this story, which I think is just really nicely done, absolutely.
23:26 --> 23:44 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, and even with Asa, you know, we find out here that he is kind of one of the stable hands, it connects to him and his intro in season four that well, he prefers company of horses to people.
23:44 --> 24:06 [SPEAKER_02]: connects through quite nicely for missile, I mean, even from the opening where you have Leo talking to Siri, and, you know, he just kind of says, who names their child after a parasite talking about missile and missile toe basically says she ate you up and this is why you find yourself in this position.
24:07 --> 24:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And in effect,
24:08 --> 24:25 [SPEAKER_02]: He's foreshadowing what happens to Juniper, Missile as the Highborn with that power relationship over a handmade, and who is about to be married, and is like, oh, yeah, I don't love him, but I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him, I don't love him,
24:25 --> 24:42 [SPEAKER_02]: but it's I can deal with him because it's a marriage of convenience, you know, for a dowry, for land, for the power, for wealth, for the family, but you're still my lover, and but also at the her connection to Missile here.
24:42 --> 25:01 [SPEAKER_02]: and the events of the Ebbang massacre also means that she also eats up Juniper here, and even, you know, with Juniper, mutilated, having been disfigured, malformed by Brighdon's mage.
25:03 --> 25:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Missiles kind of still saying,
25:08 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_02]: at least physically and probably mentally very, very damaged by this transformation and I'm in a sense it almost felt like a peaceful slide out as she dies from everything that's happened to her.
25:28 --> 25:35 [SPEAKER_04]: You take it in this world because they do have the conversation you take it in the world of the continent that somebody may have been able to save.
25:35 --> 25:54 [SPEAKER_04]: Juniper, if they had been prepared to go into that situation, yeah, Brehen's not ready for us, Brehen is ready to go in and kill the monster because that he's but that's what he's been hired for and then to go stuff stuff stuff up hold on your whole plan that we've made to kill the monster and take the money that plan has to change now and now you have to save her.
25:53 --> 25:54 [SPEAKER_04]: He's not ready for.
25:55 --> 25:55 [SPEAKER_04]: He's not prepared.
25:55 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_04]: He can't possibly switch on a dime and do that.
25:59 --> 26:01 [SPEAKER_04]: He hasn't he hasn't got the abilities that say at that time.
26:02 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_04]: If that had had been the plan that had two weeks to prepare for it, maybe he could have been able to do this.
26:07 --> 26:16 [SPEAKER_04]: If there was another mage or maybe if Yennefer had arrived, maybe she could have been able to do it or maybe if Geralt had arrived as a really experienced witcher over these years.
26:16 --> 26:21 [SPEAKER_04]: If they had arrived and been there,
26:21 --> 26:32 [SPEAKER_04]: It certainly couldn't have happened there, so you're right now, her being called out by Leo as being in the snare of a missile has called her unbearable arm.
26:33 --> 26:41 [SPEAKER_04]: And I just wanted to note as well, there is a moment when the two of them are escaping from the original attack with Berbergdon, that juniper is telling Missile, we need to get out of here.
26:41 --> 26:42 [SPEAKER_04]: Both of them are free.
26:42 --> 26:46 [SPEAKER_04]: They're running, getting out of there, a missile says no to her.
26:46 --> 26:57 [SPEAKER_04]: We need to go and save my family and because of that the two of them are captured so quite specifically Juniper going to help Missile to save her parents and her brother who are already dead.
26:57 --> 27:02 [SPEAKER_04]: You just none of them know that but because they went back to save that family, Juniper is in this position.
27:03 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_02]: She ate you up effectively and in the same way as Leo Bonhalt says to Siri, you're here
27:10 --> 27:32 [SPEAKER_02]: on the back of this cart next to a barrel full of hands and and defeated because she ate you up she was the one that kept calling you back she's the one that effectively you know in essence infected you by his analogy that she is a parasite so it's kind of I just think it's
27:32 --> 27:44 [SPEAKER_02]: It's nicely full circle, I think, with the story of Missle, and it's kind of centered around Juniper and this jala wick in a way.
27:45 --> 27:56 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's also that Missle is mainly Missle as the rat, and where her story is being fleshed out through this TV movie.
27:56 --> 28:14 [SPEAKER_02]: You get a bit more with Asa, and I like the fact that Asa has the kill on Brigadin, even though Missile is the one that's all out for vengeance on him, because Asa did lose his sisters as well in this, they fought back and so were killed.
28:14 --> 28:16 [SPEAKER_04]: And he says he's always regretted not fighting back at all.
28:16 --> 28:23 [SPEAKER_04]: He did the only thing he could do, which was nothing, and now he finally gets an opportunity to take a break down.
28:23 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_04]: All boasts a little bit of a revenge as a dispenser of cult right from for me, so that's why he gets the kill But it's also just interesting as well the conversation that's there with Leo This is all coming from the perspective right.
28:35 --> 28:47 [SPEAKER_04]: This is his story that he's telling so there's probably some embellishments in there as well It's from what he's what he's learned having met them He wasn't there at the beginning so so some of it may
28:47 --> 28:51 [SPEAKER_04]: be just what he suspects happened and how he feels it happens.
28:51 --> 29:11 [SPEAKER_04]: So unreliable narrative and all that But one of the things that is actually quite important in this and I suspect we may see this incorporated into Season 5 It's something that we haven't really thought about when we got to the end of Season 4 It's understandable but very specifically series response to Leo saying their fatal flaw was loyalty that's not made them weak
29:11 --> 29:16 [SPEAKER_04]: Siri's saying, I've lost so much now, whatever happens, it will never even touch me.
29:16 --> 29:23 [SPEAKER_04]: So she suspects that something really bad is going to happen with Leo that he's going to use her in some way.
29:23 --> 29:31 [SPEAKER_04]: That is going to, um, mutilator violator, whatever way he wants to use her as being Cyril of Central.
29:31 --> 29:36 [SPEAKER_04]: And she knows it won't even touch her because she's lost all of these people that were considered her family.
29:36 --> 29:41 [SPEAKER_04]: So, and that, that I think is a really important piece and we're going to probably see that play-ish.
29:41 --> 29:42 [SPEAKER_04]: uh, in season five.
29:42 --> 29:43 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
29:43 --> 29:44 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
29:44 --> 29:44 [SPEAKER_04]: Definitely.
29:44 --> 29:45 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's my big moment.
29:46 --> 29:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
29:46 --> 29:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Next.
29:47 --> 29:48 [SPEAKER_02]: What about yourself, Dary?
29:48 --> 29:49 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to talk about brand.
29:50 --> 29:53 [SPEAKER_04]: We have the wonderful Delph Lungrum back on screen.
29:54 --> 30:05 [SPEAKER_04]: Where kids of the 80's Delph Lungrum was at one of those people that was in the vein of Arnold Schwarzenegger and of um, Sebastian Salone in the 80's.
30:05 --> 30:06 [SPEAKER_04]: He was
30:06 --> 30:07 [SPEAKER_04]: pretty much ubiquitous.
30:08 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_04]: The movies I remember him from, where the Rocky franchise, of course, he was the first Ponisher on screen, who was Delph Lungren.
30:15 --> 30:25 [SPEAKER_04]: He made the first first live action Ponisher movie, which I remember quite well, because I watched it a lot, since we had so few comic book movies back in the 80s, and he also was He-Man, John.
30:25 --> 30:26 [SPEAKER_04]: He was.
30:26 --> 30:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I remember.
30:27 --> 30:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
30:28 --> 30:29 [SPEAKER_02]: And master's at the universe, yeah.
30:29 --> 30:30 [SPEAKER_04]: Brilliant.
30:30 --> 30:32 [SPEAKER_04]: And so that's, that is being re-made at the moment.
30:32 --> 30:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I do like the fact, yeah.
30:34 --> 30:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I do like the fact as well that he introduced that 80s montage into this TV movie as well.
30:45 --> 30:46 [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, absolutely.
30:46 --> 30:57 [SPEAKER_04]: When he's going through a training segment, they are 100% ripping on his character from the Rocky movies that is absolutely a Rocky montage that he's doing.
30:57 --> 30:57 [SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
30:57 --> 30:58 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
30:58 --> 31:00 [SPEAKER_04]: This is Ivan Drago.
31:00 --> 31:03 [SPEAKER_04]: in the continent, re-training himself.
31:03 --> 31:14 [SPEAKER_04]: But what an interesting character, I'm sometimes just on a shore because self-lumgren is now of an age, you know, it's like 60s, you know, at this stage, I'm sometimes on shore as to what part of it is.
31:15 --> 31:27 [SPEAKER_04]: that he is an older man then, that he can't do the kind of moves that he would have been able to do in his 20s and 30s when he was acting in the US or whether that's how he's acting in the role.
31:27 --> 31:34 [SPEAKER_04]: There's times he would have to be of Andre the Giant when he was in the awesome princess bride.
31:34 --> 31:46 [SPEAKER_04]: There's moments of the movement that Delph Lungren has that he you can tell he is a man that's used his body quite a lot over the years in stunts and in fighting and he feels bruised and broken when he's fighting against some of these young kids.
31:47 --> 31:59 [SPEAKER_04]: I love that over the rats they choose reef the smallest and wireliest of them all to be the one that takes him out multiple times because they say that in itself just irritates a person the size of brand.
31:59 --> 32:01 [SPEAKER_04]: But the instant we meet him.
32:01 --> 32:04 [SPEAKER_04]: He's a character you want to follow.
32:04 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_04]: He is the drunken former witcher who's Den's look, who's pretending to fight against a Doppler for coin, and it turns out the Doppler is just somebody wearing a mask over their face.
32:17 --> 32:35 [SPEAKER_04]: this is where the rats meet him because they're there to take all the money and they ruin his life because they take away the only job he has, they destroy the place because there's a big riot that happens to cover them taking the money and we also find out that there's a connection between him and our Witcher Geralt.
32:35 --> 32:38 [SPEAKER_04]: All the way back to Season 1 Episode 3.
32:39 --> 32:44 [SPEAKER_04]: They mentioned that there were three witches after Battle to Kill the Stregum.
32:44 --> 32:56 [SPEAKER_04]: Remember this from back in Episode 3 of Season 1 that there was one witch who died, one witch who ran away with the money, and the third witch who was Geralt who had to go in and potentially kill the Stregum.
32:57 --> 33:00 [SPEAKER_04]: Interestingly, the story here plays quite similarly.
33:01 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_04]: We have
33:03 --> 33:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Brehan going up against the Jalla walk and the Jalla walk turns out to be someone they know and he's asked to save them.
33:10 --> 33:13 [SPEAKER_04]: That's pretty much what happened with the dragon in episode three.
33:13 --> 33:15 [SPEAKER_04]: It turned out to be not a monster.
33:15 --> 33:18 [SPEAKER_04]: It turned out to be someone that they wanted to save and only Geralt could do that.
33:19 --> 33:24 [SPEAKER_04]: So a little tearing that, a little tearing the other side of that story that we heard back then.
33:24 --> 33:26 [SPEAKER_04]: He wasn't a carrot that ran away.
33:26 --> 33:30 [SPEAKER_04]: He just wasn't prepared at all for what the battle entailed.
33:30 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like the little history that he was from the school of the cat and and effectively like he's he's drinking to numb the rage because I guess the school of cat was very different because it's a partner and that
33:46 --> 34:01 [SPEAKER_02]: he connects up with, you know, they become this Witcher duo is from the school of Wolf, just and the same as Geralt, and so they get on, they travel, they fight, and it is his
34:02 --> 34:10 [SPEAKER_02]: friend to the person who kind of pulled him out of his funk previously who is the witcher that dies trying to get the streaker.
34:11 --> 34:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So I kind of I kind of like that a loss I think for me like as well just generally I think Dolph Lunger here is
34:21 --> 34:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Just great.
34:22 --> 34:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I loved his portrayal in this, you know, and you're right, as soon as you say it was like Andre the Giant, there is definitely hints of that.
34:34 --> 34:51 [SPEAKER_04]: But like, you know, you know, when you're watching wrestling and the Undertaker comes back and then the Undertaker is a wrestler who's been fighting since the early 90s, he's still fighting, he's still comes back and has some rounds, but you can tell in the movement of him that he's used every single
34:51 --> 34:52 [SPEAKER_04]: He's still able to fight.
34:52 --> 34:58 [SPEAKER_04]: I still wouldn't, you know, I want to meet him in a dark street in an angry way, but But there's just movement moments.
34:58 --> 34:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
34:59 --> 35:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And that's even with like two months worth of being on the rack to stretch out all those knots Mysteries and all that to get him ready for that moment, but I did I just thought
35:14 --> 35:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Dolpholington's portrayal here was just really, really well done.
35:17 --> 35:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I like the kind of path and the journey that this kind of down is look, which had taken, I mean, even just the fact, you know, you see that missile in the which are really aren't getting on until
35:32 --> 35:32 [SPEAKER_02]: they do.
35:33 --> 35:39 [SPEAKER_02]: And there's just a nice little moment between them were, you know, he's had his montage.
35:39 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_02]: He's been training to try and get acer up to fighting capabilities.
35:44 --> 35:56 [SPEAKER_02]: He's also been training the other rats in a warcraft for a bit like the decimere was doing at Montecalvo with the the
35:56 --> 36:06 [SPEAKER_02]: So I, you have that moment, he's trying to make up the different lixes that he'll take to use in order to take out this jallowick.
36:07 --> 36:21 [SPEAKER_02]: And in the end, he's kind of getting no piece in quiet and so sort of comes out and you have missile sort of again just separators from the other rats.
36:21 --> 36:24 [SPEAKER_02]: and they just connect in that moment and it's just like really good, I thought.
36:25 --> 36:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I just really liked it and then the fact that he is the sacrificing himself so that the rats are able to get away.
36:32 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was really good.
36:36 --> 36:41 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought the fight in itself him with the jallowick, him
36:41 --> 36:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Then with Leo Bonheim, it was really, really good.
36:44 --> 36:46 [SPEAKER_04]: It was really, really nice.
36:46 --> 36:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I like that you got the smart sort of him back again.
36:48 --> 36:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
36:49 --> 36:51 [SPEAKER_02]: He wasn't just this drunk.
36:52 --> 36:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
36:53 --> 36:58 [SPEAKER_02]: With the preparation and so on, it all that muscle memory had all come back.
36:58 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_02]: So actually, he did give Leo Bonheim,
37:02 --> 37:04 [SPEAKER_02]: a pretty good room for his morning.
37:04 --> 37:28 [SPEAKER_04]: He did absolutely absolutely and again being able to use the exposures to take out the building and block himself on the oinside to give the team a chance to get away really really good and also because of that connection back to season one episode three you realize this is another opportunity for him to do what he wasn't able to do back then you know it's it's coming full circle that the weight great stories do where
37:28 --> 37:33 [SPEAKER_04]: He's known as being the carrot that ran away when facing something he couldn't face.
37:33 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_04]: Now he's sacrificing himself to let his new family away.
37:37 --> 37:40 [SPEAKER_04]: So I thought that was a great use of the character.
37:40 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, really cool that we had Dolph Lungred in here for this episode.
37:44 --> 37:46 [SPEAKER_04]: So Shane, we're not going to see more of the character in the future.
37:46 --> 37:47 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
37:47 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_04]: What are the things that was really surprised about though?
37:49 --> 37:56 [SPEAKER_04]: It's that this all takes place on these six months beforehand before season four of the Witcher.
37:56 --> 38:00 [SPEAKER_04]: So this is flashback, this is giving us the information who the rats are.
38:01 --> 38:08 [SPEAKER_04]: I was expecting those that we would see more of the other characters, as you mentioned, some other characters in the Witcher who seem to be quite friendly with the rats.
38:09 --> 38:16 [SPEAKER_04]: They seem to know a lot of people, and we don't know how they connect with them.
38:16 --> 38:44 [SPEAKER_04]: thing it reminded me of was firefly and serenity, serenity, the big screen movie of the TV show, firefly that only lasted for seven episodes, I'll show an out of order and then ten episodes total and then the movie and you watch the movie and you go, oh all of these people in here that they know all across the galaxy, all their friends that they're teeming up with, I'll go and watch the TV show and maybe I'll get to know those ones and realize, oh no actually, you know, they never met any of those people in the TV show, they're in the house.
38:44 --> 38:59 [SPEAKER_04]: a few, yeah, but Shepherd was a member of the crew, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and whereas all of the other people that they meet across the galaxy are all brand new for the movie and was supposed to talk about, you know, there was supposed to be about two or three years between the series on the movie, so they've met loads more people.
38:59 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_04]: So I would say season four.
39:03 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_04]: probably was written in the idea that the rats had a whole TV show to fill in.
39:07 --> 39:08 [SPEAKER_04]: I agree.
39:08 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_04]: Lots of elements and then now we have the movie which fills in a little bit of who they are and it's a lovely addition to the show.
39:14 --> 39:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I think so and I think I guess in some ways it's kind of it it puts
39:21 --> 39:26 [SPEAKER_02]: sort of the rats going headlong after Leo Bonhardt, the end of season four.
39:26 --> 39:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it puts it 50-50 for me.
39:28 --> 39:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I can see why they did that seeing the brain that ultimately they kind of got to know and like and was part of their team.
39:37 --> 39:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Almost an honorary rat.
39:40 --> 39:47 [SPEAKER_02]: A bit like you have a
39:47 --> 39:53 [SPEAKER_02]: is potentially sacrificing himself here so that they can live for.
39:53 --> 40:03 [SPEAKER_02]: And so that kind of debt to a former rat given the loyalty thing, but again, you know, so yes, it makes sense.
40:03 --> 40:11 [SPEAKER_02]: But in effect, you have that then flagged up top by Leo Bonharse again when he's talking
40:11 --> 40:19 [SPEAKER_02]: to Siri, which I quite liked, you know, where he's kind of saying that, you know, their fatal flaw was that they were loyal.
40:20 --> 40:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:20 --> 40:22 [SPEAKER_02]: And in this sense, it was loyal to Brian.
40:22 --> 40:24 [SPEAKER_02]: That's why they went to sort of confront Leo.
40:25 --> 40:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, you know, Leo says loyalty rocks the brain and makes you weak.
40:30 --> 40:42 [SPEAKER_02]: the fact that you no longer have to be loyal to the rats whose heads are in the barrel next to her means that you can begin to, you can cast that off and begin to grow again.
40:42 --> 40:48 [SPEAKER_02]: He says to her type of thing, but equally, that explains why they did go running in.
40:48 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_02]: It also equally, after seeing Leo Bonhart, I'm going.
40:53 --> 40:56 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm still asking the question, why would you do that?
40:56 --> 41:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So it was blind loyalty, not brand loyalty, blind loyalty.
41:00 --> 41:03 [SPEAKER_04]: Well, kind of again, this is all Leo's perspective.
41:03 --> 41:04 [SPEAKER_04]: This is what Leo is saying.
41:04 --> 41:11 [SPEAKER_04]: And there's no one that could tell Siri loyalty is not the way to live your life, you know, she has a family in Paris.
41:11 --> 41:14 [SPEAKER_04]: She has a family in Yen, she has a family in the rats.
41:14 --> 41:16 [SPEAKER_04]: And Brehan absolutely was a member of the rats.
41:16 --> 41:19 [SPEAKER_04]: He did take the blood open with them as well.
41:19 --> 41:21 [SPEAKER_04]: So she has been brought fully into the group.
41:21 --> 41:25 [SPEAKER_04]: It explains why they go after Leo exactly as you say, John.
41:25 --> 41:28 [SPEAKER_04]: But I'm still questioning why they're just ran into this situation.
41:29 --> 41:29 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
41:30 --> 41:31 [SPEAKER_04]: They are people that plan.
41:32 --> 41:38 [SPEAKER_04]: They go this person that killed our best friend is going to be in this location for the next week or something.
41:38 --> 41:44 [SPEAKER_04]: So we will spend the next week making a great plan to ensure that we take this guy egg because we know how powerful he is.
41:44 --> 41:45 [SPEAKER_04]: He took it all of us.
41:45 --> 41:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
41:45 --> 41:50 [SPEAKER_04]: It took a witch here with witch you're dreading to take about last time and he just stole him.
41:50 --> 41:51 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
41:51 --> 42:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And actually this whole movie is about them, we have two weeks to scope out how we're going to do this big high school, is hugely dangerous, but will effectively allow us to retire from a life of crime type, I think really.
42:08 --> 42:16 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's in their DNA is to plan the high,
42:16 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_02]: meticulously planned exactly so yes it again you're right it doesn't mean I feel it it adds it 50 50 yeah it does so all I can say is whoever wrote the tale of what happened with the rats it was um
42:31 --> 42:46 [SPEAKER_04]: on clear of the truth of why they went in and on clear of what actually happened between them and Leah, because I can't imagine the rats that are here running in half-cocked all of them at exactly the same time to the Barnard.
42:46 --> 42:53 [SPEAKER_04]: Even the ones we saw in season four of the witchers, they plan, they're meticulous about their planning, that's their special skill, isn't it?
42:53 --> 42:54 [SPEAKER_04]: So.
42:54 --> 42:57 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yes, and that's my major point of plan.
42:57 --> 42:59 [SPEAKER_04]: I was really glad to see this character in the show.
42:59 --> 43:01 [SPEAKER_04]: I thought he did a really good job.
43:01 --> 43:05 [SPEAKER_04]: It was great to see Delflongron offscreen once again.
43:06 --> 43:10 [SPEAKER_04]: John, a note from you for the episode, anything you want to mention that we haven't talked about.
43:10 --> 43:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And I just to note the brothel with an octopus.
43:14 --> 43:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Again, another almost a bit like a gen V reference here with the Deep.
43:20 --> 43:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I think in season 4 we have Jennifer in the big battle of Monte Calvo using her magic to use spilt blood and turn it effectively into a bullsaw in the sense to slice a guy in half and he's very like to and heo then we have
43:43 --> 44:05 [SPEAKER_02]: the brothel were they managed to set up a situation in order to get an invite from one of the key sort of warlords that will be attending this arena and the opening of it, but you
44:05 --> 44:15 [SPEAKER_04]: It's just in the voiceover they're saying, you know, this is the brothel that we'll bring you anything no matter what the requirement is, she's there kissing an octopus on gunna.
44:15 --> 44:15 [SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
44:16 --> 44:18 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is definitely a place to do the deep which would do this.
44:18 --> 44:21 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is like gen V. So that was my note.
44:21 --> 44:26 [SPEAKER_04]: One that I really like, just a kind of closing of the episode as they're all lined up having their drink.
44:27 --> 44:33 [SPEAKER_04]: I just like that as each of them is making their toast, the toast falls towards things that Brehan had said to them throughout the episode.
44:33 --> 44:43 [SPEAKER_04]: They started out having a toast to family, to Brehan, and then ASUS says to being alive, you know, you know, you're already on the right side if you are.
44:43 --> 45:00 [SPEAKER_04]: then Reef talks about being the writing, the reigning champion of Amarillo because of her training with the Witcher as well along with Acer, so she talks about that and then they toast to Juniper and then the possibility of a future is what they toast towards.
45:00 --> 45:06 [SPEAKER_04]: And then finally they say they're going off to say goodbye to the ghosts and go on to exploit the Nessir deals.
45:06 --> 45:32 [SPEAKER_04]: It's just interesting they mentioned that because they went when they went in to get this original plan from a orl of the psychic who who Missile knew She actually mentioned the contracts that were available through the through the messeres and they went out I don't know those are two small scale for us who want something really big and now at the end of this high-stewed Maybe that was a bit too big It's what it's saying as they write off into the sunset to Join up and do the Nassir deals.
45:33 --> 45:36 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, just like I just liked that that came full circle of the end
45:36 --> 45:40 [SPEAKER_04]: Overall, then John, how would you raise the rats a Witcher tale?
45:40 --> 45:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I really enjoyed this TV movie, I thought it was a good one.
45:46 --> 45:52 [SPEAKER_02]: I would give it four cries of the jallowick, not the java walking, out of five.
45:52 --> 45:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I really enjoyed it.
45:54 --> 45:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it was just a nicely contained,
45:59 --> 46:01 [SPEAKER_02]: story about the rats.
46:01 --> 46:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I love brahin, and I like the sort of mean protagonists in this.
46:05 --> 46:07 [SPEAKER_02]: It's great having the obom heart back.
46:07 --> 46:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And whether they needed to have the whole spoiler thing, where you know this was effectively locked out if you didn't watch episode 8,
46:16 --> 46:18 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that in itself is a choice.
46:18 --> 46:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that was necessary.
46:20 --> 46:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
46:20 --> 46:23 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you need to start locking people out of watching something.
46:23 --> 46:26 [SPEAKER_04]: I love the idea that they did because then it wouldn't spoil.
46:26 --> 46:31 [SPEAKER_04]: So before that's just simply, if you're on that flexi press around button, you go, oh, God, I should have watched these before it's ruined for me.
46:32 --> 46:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, that's true.
46:32 --> 46:34 [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, but I think they could have taken a leg.
46:34 --> 46:36 [SPEAKER_02]: It is, it's good.
46:36 --> 46:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad they, yes, in that sense, it's good.
46:39 --> 46:46 [SPEAKER_02]: But equally the choice of having that level of Siri and even just showing the rats heads in a barrel.
46:47 --> 46:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they didn't even need to show that.
46:48 --> 46:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
46:49 --> 46:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Could it have just been,
46:51 --> 46:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Siri on the car.
46:53 --> 46:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, with a barrel sloppin' water over it.
46:57 --> 46:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't need to be any reference.
46:59 --> 47:00 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
47:00 --> 47:17 [SPEAKER_04]: You know, But the fact that I chose that as the framing for the yeah for this episode or for this movie Yeah, I'd say that probably drew more people into watchers who had watched season four of the Witcher But I enjoyed it as a side story.
47:17 --> 47:19 [SPEAKER_04]: I think it could have just remained as a side story
47:19 --> 47:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I've really enjoyed a lot of the side stories, actually, of the Witcher world.
47:26 --> 47:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I think the animations have been really good, and this was really good.
47:32 --> 47:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Blood origins, I thought, was fantastic.
47:35 --> 47:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So I've really enjoyed these kind of spin-off.
47:39 --> 47:49 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and you might be pleased to know it's very difficult to judge how the ratings go.
47:49 --> 48:06 [SPEAKER_04]: got has gotten about a 4.9 on IMDB and since I don't think there's an episode in season 4 of the Witcher 8 main that got over like 4.7 so you know is that an indication that that the fandom likes this more than the Witcher season main.
48:06 --> 48:19 [SPEAKER_04]: But I suspect most of the people that rated the Witcher season 4 lower than a 4 or lower than a 5 didn't actually watch season 4 of the Witcher, so they've never watched it in the end.
48:19 --> 48:21 [SPEAKER_02]: There's no point.
48:21 --> 48:42 [SPEAKER_04]: Like, like, what are the big things, you know, they've chosen the character here, the Witcher, uh, Dufflunker's character brand, as a member of a different sect of the Witchers, which is known to the fandom, the, um, the school of the cast, um, and they just do it as a very small drop line about who they are, that he's isolated.
48:42 --> 48:45 [SPEAKER_04]: That's quite a big thing in the world of the Witcher.
48:46 --> 48:47 [SPEAKER_04]: And that, uh,
48:47 --> 49:02 [SPEAKER_04]: The type of fans who are already annoyed at the show for taking a teacher and focusing on these three characters in the way they have, that kind of stuff actually winds them up even more even if it's just a small reference to the rest of a surre watching ATV show or a movie that we're enjoying in a world that we're enjoying.
49:03 --> 49:14 [SPEAKER_04]: If you drop things in that are massive lore things from the games or from the books and don't explain them to their satisfaction they will
49:14 --> 49:25 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, look, you can't please anyone, I guess, these days, because my take on it is at Sunday as a non-book reader and someone who goes.
49:25 --> 49:33 [SPEAKER_02]: started the game and I thought it was something I was able to get fully in control of.
49:33 --> 49:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I think Dragon Age was always preferable for me.
49:37 --> 49:45 [SPEAKER_02]: But for me I take, oh isn't it great that they're just making that reference to the other schools of being a Witcher?
49:45 --> 49:52 [SPEAKER_02]: And to be honest there's enough in this show which has got nothing to do with the school of the cat.
49:52 --> 49:56 [SPEAKER_02]: that comes out that says they have different methods in a different way.
49:56 --> 50:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, it's like different monks and different monastic orders.
50:01 --> 50:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
50:02 --> 50:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And this one didn't suit Bren.
50:06 --> 50:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
50:06 --> 50:11 [SPEAKER_02]: And the cat and the dog got together and while they shouldn't work.
50:11 --> 50:11 [SPEAKER_02]: work.
50:12 --> 50:13 [SPEAKER_02]: They worked.
50:13 --> 50:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Cut the wolf.
50:14 --> 50:14 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
50:14 --> 50:17 [SPEAKER_04]: You're going to piss after us the fan agent.
50:17 --> 50:17 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
50:17 --> 50:18 [SPEAKER_04]: Get the wolf right.
50:18 --> 50:19 [SPEAKER_02]: The frog you don't want to.
50:19 --> 50:25 [SPEAKER_02]: The muggy and the mongrel, you know, managed to come together, make it work.
50:25 --> 50:33 [SPEAKER_02]: And actually that's why he then went back to the drink was because in effect he got him, he felt as though he got him his best mate killed.
50:33 --> 50:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
50:34 --> 50:34 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
50:34 --> 50:36 [SPEAKER_04]: Someone that he trusted.
50:36 --> 50:40 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I thought it was a good part of the tale and me, I've only read the one book.
50:41 --> 50:44 [SPEAKER_04]: It wasn't hugely impressed with the writing style.
50:44 --> 50:46 [SPEAKER_04]: It sometimes happens when something's translated as well.
50:46 --> 50:48 [SPEAKER_04]: It wasn't hugely impressed the writing style.
50:48 --> 50:50 [SPEAKER_04]: I hope to find more of the books in the future and read them.
50:50 --> 50:54 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm not opposed to doing that, but it wasn't a bit of a starting a series.
50:54 --> 51:01 [SPEAKER_04]: I've spent a lot of time reading a full book, probably not going to read too much more if it hasn't captured me after the full book.
51:01 --> 51:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, translations, it's, it's amazing how important they can be when it comes to, I mean, clearly they are but then the quality of the translation, just how that plays sometimes into and then must go the same course way around.
51:21 --> 51:30 [SPEAKER_02]: So look at it's really kind of interesting that, you know,
51:30 --> 51:31 [SPEAKER_04]: very good, very good.
51:31 --> 51:36 [SPEAKER_04]: We got a bit of feedback in for this movie from the wonderful coffee in vodka.
51:37 --> 51:39 [SPEAKER_04]: He says greetings, fellow Vice-Fixing defenders.
51:40 --> 51:42 [SPEAKER_04]: It took three days to get past the first 45 minutes.
51:43 --> 51:50 [SPEAKER_04]: But from the montage onwards, once the Rat Pack fan descends a discipline and impulse control, we were off on a ground-highste adventure.
51:50 --> 51:55 [SPEAKER_04]: In many ways, the best mega app of the season with Leo and Dregos able assistance.
51:55 --> 51:58 [SPEAKER_04]: Just glad to learn of this movie episode when I did.
51:59 --> 52:02 [SPEAKER_04]: Seeing the barrel full of water he heads, even mid-season would have been a bit of a spoiler.
52:03 --> 52:11 [SPEAKER_04]: Four matches blazes of glory, fettless tomorrow's, and geriatric tussles extra-five, peace and take care, coffee and vodka.
52:11 --> 52:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Excellent stuff, coffee and vodka, glad you enjoyed this, I think I'm right there with you.
52:18 --> 52:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I do like the geriatric tussles.
52:20 --> 52:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess that is in reference to Leo and Dolph going into this.
52:25 --> 52:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but he's got the Ivan Drago there as well.
52:27 --> 52:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
52:29 --> 52:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I, yes, I really kind of agree.
52:32 --> 52:36 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a good little special presentation, you know.
52:36 --> 52:37 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it was a full month.
52:37 --> 52:39 [SPEAKER_04]: I'm glad I'm glad I did get released.
52:39 --> 52:41 [SPEAKER_04]: Even if it was just in the way they're cut released.
52:42 --> 52:56 [SPEAKER_04]: I kind of got the feeling that they'd started filming it And we may never it may never have seen the light a day and they just famed away to get it out there Bid book ending and put those pieces with me or maybe that's why they put it in the way they the way they did So that it could be released.
52:56 --> 52:56 [SPEAKER_02]: True.
52:56 --> 52:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean at least it was a written off as a tax return.
52:59 --> 53:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's not like some Studios have done a girl.
53:03 --> 53:09 [SPEAKER_02]: They've actually released it, you know, yeah, and so that it can actually be in
53:09 --> 53:10 [SPEAKER_02]: the world.
53:10 --> 53:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
53:10 --> 53:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And so, yeah, furgy is on mass as well.
53:13 --> 53:13 [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
53:13 --> 53:23 [SPEAKER_04]: And one thing the coffee vodka said there and his ratings, that's reminded me of a line from the episode I mentioned, which was, he's called it the Four of Matchless Places of Glory.
53:24 --> 53:30 [SPEAKER_04]: I just thought, missiles description of why she's with the group and how they saved her was quite interesting.
53:30 --> 53:37 [SPEAKER_04]: She says, they numb the pain of her loss and by joining the rats, it is later to
53:37 --> 53:43 [SPEAKER_04]: to go age in the blaze of glory with people that she liked and to like the match with this cruise.
53:43 --> 53:52 [SPEAKER_04]: So she's effectively saying in that line, she knows they're all destined to die, but she's willing to do it as long as she's standing side by side with the rest of them.
53:52 --> 53:56 [SPEAKER_04]: Well, you're just think it's interesting as a line because obviously we know they are in a
53:56 --> 54:01 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so she is prepared for them all to die together, so just remind me of that.
54:01 --> 54:03 [SPEAKER_04]: Thanks a lot, okay.
54:03 --> 54:12 [SPEAKER_04]: And thanks to all of you for joining us for our chat, all about the rats at which a tale we hope you watch it, and we hope you enjoyed it on Netflix, and we'd love to hear from it and your thoughts on any of the shows.

55:04 --> 55:09 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah next up on the main feed marvellous Wonderman is coming at the end of January.
55:09 --> 55:09 [SPEAKER_04]: We were really
55:09 --> 55:11 [SPEAKER_04]: originally expected that to be coming in December.
55:11 --> 55:12 [SPEAKER_04]: It was moved.
55:13 --> 55:15 [SPEAKER_04]: We were talking about this the other day.
55:15 --> 55:18 [SPEAKER_04]: We think everybody's just moved out of the way of stranger things, right?
55:18 --> 55:19 [SPEAKER_04]: Because there are things released for episodes.
55:20 --> 55:22 [SPEAKER_04]: Thanks giving in the U.S. just to the end of November.
55:22 --> 55:24 [SPEAKER_04]: Four episodes on Christmas Eve.
55:24 --> 55:28 [SPEAKER_04]: And then an episode and on New Year's Day, the finale comes out.
55:29 --> 55:31 [SPEAKER_04]: I think everybody just went, ah, look.
55:31 --> 55:35 [SPEAKER_04]: that's enough enough of genre stuff for all of December.
55:35 --> 55:50 [SPEAKER_04]: So we will be doing our traditional podcast which will hopefully be a before Wonderman having a date for it yet but that's what we're going to be doing our wrap-up of the show's we covered in 2025 and discussing the things that'll be coming up in 2022.
55:50 --> 55:55 [SPEAKER_04]: We usually release that at the start of January so it's a hopefully we'll be recording another the next couple of weeks.
55:55 --> 55:59 [SPEAKER_04]: We're sending your thoughts about any of the shows that we've covered at the email address I mentioned before.
55:59 --> 56:00 [SPEAKER_04]: We've covered loads of stuff this year.
56:00 --> 56:03 [SPEAKER_04]: We've covered invincible season 3.
56:03 --> 56:08 [SPEAKER_04]: Star Wars Skeleton crew, Captain America, Brave New World, Daredevil born against the last of us season 2.
56:09 --> 56:13 [SPEAKER_04]: We covered Ironhurt, Gen V season 2, the final season of the Sandman.
56:13 --> 56:22 [SPEAKER_04]: We cover Marvel zombies and Isaac Hounder in the animated Marvel Universe, and movies wise, we covered fantastic for first steps and thunderbolt, so lots of stuff that we've covered this year.
56:22 --> 56:25 [SPEAKER_04]: And we'd love to hear your thoughts on all of them as we go into our wrap-up for those.
56:26 --> 56:30 [SPEAKER_04]: And anything you're looking forward to next year, anything we may have missed this year that you'd love just to cover.
56:30 --> 56:35 [SPEAKER_04]: There's a few things like that that we'll be talking about on our wrap-up podcast in the days.
56:35 --> 56:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
56:35 --> 56:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Like the real of time.
56:36 --> 56:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm guessing maybe for some of our fellow listeners, but yeah.
56:40 --> 56:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And there's other stuff as well.
56:42 --> 56:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I know we sometimes do get, you know, suggestions through from our lovely listeners.
56:48 --> 56:50 [SPEAKER_02]: So you know, definitely keep those coming in.
56:50 --> 57:00 [SPEAKER_02]: We're always open to explore the potential for new ideas if we can, just to put a big condition on that though, if we can.
57:00 --> 57:01 [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, of course.
57:01 --> 57:02 [SPEAKER_04]: Of course.
57:02 --> 57:04 [SPEAKER_04]: I know we already have this gestion for a drive to survive.
57:04 --> 57:06 [SPEAKER_04]: That's a joke.
57:06 --> 57:11 [SPEAKER_04]: But, yes, lots of talk about what we get to our raffle podcast before Wonderman at next month.
57:11 --> 57:19 [SPEAKER_04]: Hopefully we will be listing along with us on our main feed on TV podcast industries and we can't wait to talk more about wonderful TV shows and movies with you.
57:20 --> 57:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
57:21 --> 57:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Great stuff.
