Lanterns Episode 8 Review

We have reached the end and John returns to chat with Derek all about Lanterns Episode 8 Dirt and Stars in our spoiler filled podcast on the finale.

Lanterns Episode 8 Dirt and Stars Synopsis

Episode Written by: Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindeloff

Episode Directed By: Alik Sakharov

In 2016, in the aftermath of the destruction of Rushville, Kerry Kane rushes to make sure Hal Jordan is safe in the debris of the motel. Ten years later, in 2026 Kerry is waiting for Hal as he is released from prison, and despite the town’s hostility, the two begin a relationship.

Hal gradually rebuilds his life and tries to make amends for the destruction he caused, but his fragile second chance is shattered when his home is firebombed. Noah, Kerry’s son, secretly saves Hal using his extraordinary abilities.

Meanwhile, back in the alien world, John Stewart discovers the truth about Noah from Sinestro, that Noah is a Manhunter, created through Zoe’s experiments and struggling against his own programming.

Sinestro reveals that Noah freed him from captivity and commissioned him to create a powerful Lantern fuelled by fear. John takes the Lantern but is warned that using it could have consequences.

When John confronts Noah, the teenager admits that he killed Hal, apparently to prevent him from revealing his secret to his mum, Kerry. Noah then reveals the terrifying conflict inside him: part of him wants a normal human life, while his Manhunter programming urges him towards power and destruction. Terrified of what he might become, Noah removes John’s ring and asks him to kill him after his final game as Quarterback for his team, the Pioneers.

At the football match, John watches the game with Kerry, where finally the real truth is revealed. Hal, after being saved by Noah, understood his true identity and urged Kerry to flee with her son. Terrified of losing Noah and believing Hal would expose him, Kerry shoots Hal in the head. John chooses not to turn Kerry in, believing Hal would have wanted Noah protected.

With Noah choosing to continue his normal life, John makes his own decision. He summons Guy Gardner and declares that he will protect Earth independently of the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. He says to Guy “You take the stars, I’ll take the dirt.” After one final conversation with Hal’s holographic imprint, John embraces the fear he has spent fighting and creates his own Lantern oath. He returns to his family, charges his ring and finally takes flight and becoming Earth’s Green Lantern on his own terms.

00:00 --> 00:08 [SPEAKER_02]: This is the lanterns podcast on TV podcast industries, and we're discussing the final episode episode eight of lanterns dirt and stars.
00:09 --> 00:10 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, kind of.
00:12 --> 00:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Fritzed out when you were talking to Carrie.
00:18 --> 00:20 [SPEAKER_00]: What were the last words that I said?
00:21 --> 00:23 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, exactly.
00:25 --> 00:26 [SPEAKER_00]: What's Derek saying?
00:38 --> 00:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Love you, too, Junior.
01:07 --> 01:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back fellow guardians.
01:09 --> 01:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back fellow lanterns.
01:11 --> 01:20 [SPEAKER_02]: This is the lanterns podcast on TV podcast industries, and we're just discussing lanterns Episode 8, Dirt and Stars.
01:20 --> 01:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it is the final podcast of our coverage of lanterns from DC, and I am one of your host, John.
01:28 --> 01:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I am your other host, Derek, for the finale.
01:31 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
01:32 --> 01:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, welcome back and the news on whether we're getting a second season.
01:35 --> 01:51 [SPEAKER_01]: We know that they've put together right-shoes room for the second season of Lanterns, and that has not been confirmed because of as some people may know, a massive takeover of lots and lots of different companies all under one umbrella company, they're called Skydance.
01:52 --> 01:55 [SPEAKER_01]: So that includes HBO, includes Paramount, includes loads of other companies.
01:55 --> 01:59 [SPEAKER_01]: So there is no particular confirmation that we're going to
02:02 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's see, certainly from my side, it does deserve a second season, if they want to keep it on the TV track.
02:12 --> 02:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I get it, it can intermingle with the films, so be interesting just to see how I think it progresses from here, because yeah, one becomes too in the reverse
02:30 --> 02:34 [SPEAKER_02]: and as well, in the DC universe, the Spice Girls will be yellow.
02:34 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_02]: They'll be dressed in yellow.
02:36 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_02]: What will they be dressed in and the red clear to us?
02:39 --> 02:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Not yellow.
02:41 --> 02:41 [UNKNOWN]: Why?
02:41 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Because we're a reverse flash.
02:43 --> 02:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, I get you.
02:44 --> 02:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
02:45 --> 02:46 [SPEAKER_01]: All that.
02:46 --> 02:49 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's one becomes two as we get the
02:54 --> 03:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or a million becomes 999 there's 999 and 1 Yes, something like that But no the other great thing about lanterns has been released in the The ratings every week as well, and it's up to 18 million ratings for the episode.
03:10 --> 03:14 [SPEAKER_01]: So by most metrics this show is doing very very well at the beginning
03:14 --> 03:28 [SPEAKER_01]: crazy not to do a second season unless as you say John they are planning to just spin this into a lanterns movie as a sequel as we've closed out who is the main lantern for Earth and who's the main lantern for the sector as well.
03:28 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I guess so but it'll be interesting to see and hopefully touch what we get.
03:34 --> 03:41 [SPEAKER_02]: We get this lantern John Stewart as well as Guy Gardener back in some form moving forward.
03:41 --> 03:44 [SPEAKER_01]: We know we'll have at least one of them next year in Man's Bar as we mentioned.
03:45 --> 03:51 [SPEAKER_02]: They did feel a little sad for Nathan Philly and it felt like he was getting a P45 live on screen at the time.
03:51 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_02]: But, uh, Alas, uh, we, he is still around.
03:55 --> 03:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I own quite please about that.
03:56 --> 03:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
03:57 --> 04:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And, despite the hairdo, and just quickly before we do the Who What Where When and How, uh, remember fellow lanterns to pop on over to the website at tvpodcastindustries.com where you can of course subscribe to any green blue or white lantern podcast player of your choice.
04:17 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, we are in the throws of feedback and
04:21 --> 04:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Rushville redneck pub quiz so please send in your thoughts there is no observations as well as your quizzing answers to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com and of course on the pub quiz on the Rushville redneck pub quiz indeed we have a final question for this episode and we'll see who gets
04:50 --> 04:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, we're recording a little bit earlier this week, as I mentioned last week, as I mentioned in my Facebook group.
04:54 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And so if you haven't got your feedback in now, make sure you send it into us in the next couple of days.
04:59 --> 05:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And of course, send in your answers for the Rushville Redneck Pokers, and we'll chat a bit all your thoughts.
05:04 --> 05:08 [SPEAKER_01]: And announce the person who's getting the goodies on the next episode of this podcast.
05:09 --> 05:11 [SPEAKER_01]: But I think we need to get into this episode discussion, Joe.
05:11 --> 05:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, exactly.
05:12 --> 05:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Derek, what are some of the episode details?
05:15 --> 05:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the showrunners for the show are Chris Mundi, Deminland, Laugh, and Tom King, who are also the right shoes for this specific episode, all working together throughout the series, making sure we got to this final point in this final episode.
05:27 --> 05:37 [SPEAKER_01]: The episode was directed by Alex Suckeroff, who we mentioned last week who got a directed episode 7 of Lanterns, and is now on for directing episodes of Ozark, his cards and Game of Thrones as well.
05:38 --> 05:42 [SPEAKER_01]: John, do you want to tell us what they gave us with your synopsis for?
05:42 --> 05:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Lanterns?
05:43 --> 05:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Dirt and Stars.
05:45 --> 05:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
05:45 --> 05:54 [SPEAKER_02]: In 2016, in the aftermath of the destruction of Rushville, Kerry Kane rushes to make sure how Jordan is safe in the debris of the Motel.
05:54 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_02]: 10 years later, in 2026, Kerry is waiting for how, as he is released from prison, despite the talent hostility, the two begin a relationship.
06:04 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Hal gradually rebuilds his life and tries to make him ends for the destruction he caused, but his fragile second chance is shattered when his home is firebombed.
06:14 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Noah carries son secretly saves Hal using his extraordinary abilities.
06:19 --> 06:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, back in the alien world, John Stewart discovers the truth about Noah from Sinestro, that Noah is a manhunter created
06:33 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Sinestre reveals that Noah freed him from captivity and commissioned him to create a powerful lantern fueled by fear.
06:41 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_02]: John takes the lantern, but is warned that it's using it could have consequences.
06:47 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_02]: When John confronts Noah, the teenager admits to the killed hell, apparently to prevent him from revealing his secret to his mom, Kerry.
06:55 --> 06:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Noah then reveals that terrifying conflicts inside of him.
06:59 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Part of him wants a normal human life while his manhunter programming urges him towards power and destruction.
07:06 --> 07:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Terrified of what he might become, Noah removes John's ring and asks him to kill him after his final game as quarterback for his team, the pioneers.
07:15 --> 07:18 [SPEAKER_02]: At the football match, John watches the game with
07:22 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_02]: How, after being saved by Noah, understores his true identity and urge Kerry to flee with her son.
07:28 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Terrified of losing Noah and believing how would expose him, Kerry shoots how in the head.
07:34 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_02]: John chooses not to turn Kerry in, believing how would have wanted Noah protected.
07:40 --> 07:43 [SPEAKER_02]: with no choosing to continue his normal life, John makes his own decision.
07:44 --> 07:51 [SPEAKER_02]: He's someone's guy Gardner and declares that he will protect Earth independently of the Guardians and the Green Lantern Call.
07:51 --> 07:54 [SPEAKER_02]: He says to Guy, you take the stars, I'll take the dirt.
07:55 --> 08:04 [SPEAKER_02]: After one final conversation with Hal's holographic imprint, John embraces the fear he has spent years fighting and creates his own lantern oath.
08:04 --> 08:12 [SPEAKER_02]: He returns to his family, charges his ring, and finally takes flight and becoming Earth's green lantern on his own terms.
08:13 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Up up, and oh, well, absolutely John finally gets to fly.
08:16 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_01]: He does.
08:17 --> 08:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Very good stuff.
08:18 --> 08:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Great stuff.
08:19 --> 08:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I like that that's the that's the kind of closing moment of the episode that all the way throughout the season at the early parts of the season.
08:25 --> 08:34 [SPEAKER_01]: He's just trying to learn how to fly that the big lesson he wants to get and really he just puts the ring on says it's those and then he's able to fly because he deserves it really.
08:34 --> 08:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah absolutely.
08:36 --> 08:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah yeah really good.
08:38 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought this was really good close out to be honest.
08:42 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I think you can tell it is going into
08:48 --> 08:57 [SPEAKER_02]: pretty comprehensively and certainly it was more conversational and dialogue driven than I was expecting.
08:58 --> 08:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
08:59 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_02]: But that's no bad thing because I felt utterly fulfilled from this series.
09:05 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_02]: So really good, really good for me.
09:08 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Excellent.
09:08 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
09:09 --> 09:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about our major moments from the
09:21 --> 09:24 [SPEAKER_01]: For me, I have a ace, maybe on this one.
09:24 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's for, but on the moon, I think this time.
09:28 --> 09:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Forget it, just as the, they're all the astronauts did.
09:32 --> 09:41 [SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing to think that the bottle opener has made it all the way from the first episode to the last episode, because it couldn't find a better sand effect for the, for the Creed Lantern ring.
09:41 --> 09:42 [SPEAKER_01]: It's right at the series.
09:42 --> 09:50 [SPEAKER_02]: But our point number one, our powering point number one, murder, manhunters, and the cane family.
09:51 --> 09:53 [SPEAKER_02]: And ultimately here we get
09:53 --> 10:02 [SPEAKER_02]: the resolution to the mystery that has been going on throughout the entire series and that is the truth about Hal Jordan's murder.
10:02 --> 10:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Why he was covered in snow with a bullet through the head without his ring.
10:12 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_02]: at the football ground of the pine is in Rushville, Nebraska.
10:18 --> 10:28 [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought this was really nicely done, a few little sort of distractions and red herrings, but ultimately we have here that
10:30 --> 10:37 [SPEAKER_02]: it is his post sentence, a lot of his life and the town sheriff.
10:37 --> 10:45 [SPEAKER_02]: It is revealed to be Kerry Kane, to be the killer of how and it's kind of an interesting thing because it's out of
10:46 --> 10:50 [SPEAKER_02]: fear of what he's suggesting to do in a sense.
10:50 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And again, it's, you know, you have that really nice moment where as that truth has been revealed, because there are a few layers to this.
11:00 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And, but
11:02 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_02]: As the truth is being revealed, where it is being teased out of carry by John Stuart.
11:08 --> 11:14 [SPEAKER_02]: He talks about his own mother, teaching him to be fearless.
11:14 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_02]: We saw that in some of the flashbacks where he was put out into some really rough parts of town and then had to make his own way back.
11:32 --> 11:41 [SPEAKER_02]: was scared and terrified because she was waiting for him to come or not through the front door after doing what she's done.
11:41 --> 11:53 [SPEAKER_02]: And he also certainly could see that that carry new exactly how his mother and what his mother had gone through exactly because
11:55 --> 12:07 [SPEAKER_02]: She knew about Noah, Noah thought that she didn't, and so it was ultimately, and sort of left with this impossible choice to be this protective mother.
12:07 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, more so Noah knew she knew he was a man-hunter, but thought, but she thought that Noah didn't know he was a man-hunter.
12:15 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_01]: That's the even more, sorry that's what I meant.
12:17 --> 12:22 [SPEAKER_01]: essential part of that's why it's so complicate is what's going on here.
12:22 --> 12:45 [SPEAKER_01]: The two of them are trying to protect each other with their actions all the way through this Exactly, and John is drawing that connection between himself and his mother Bernardette that she would be sitting at home Not breathing at all until he walked in through the door and he thought it was just about making him fearless when she's Getting more and more terrified that the great of the great everything amps up and he's kind of saying to carry you must in a break Been breathing for the last 18 years.
12:45 --> 12:47 [SPEAKER_01]: That that was a great song
12:47 --> 12:49 [SPEAKER_01]: that you're a son's a man hunter.
12:49 --> 12:50 [SPEAKER_02]: That's a great line.
12:50 --> 12:54 [SPEAKER_02]: You've been holding a breath roll his entire child.
12:54 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_02]: So as John about his own mother.
12:56 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah exactly.
12:57 --> 13:02 [SPEAKER_02]: That's what he meant was that she thought he didn't know he was a man.
13:02 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
13:03 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And so it's trying to protect him from that, but he did know and he wanted to protect
13:11 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_02]: her from knowing that what he wants that he knew.
13:16 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_01]: So I love I love the hell that's a line date because we have that moment with Hal and Kerry sleeping together in Hal's apartment in the hotel or in Hal's house sorry.
13:27 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And
13:29 --> 13:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He asks her to stay and carry says, well, I'm not ready for him to know just yes.
13:33 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: And then when we see Noah saving hell, we hear Noah saying to her, I don't want my mom to know that I know.
13:41 --> 13:46 [SPEAKER_01]: And you think he's talking about their relationship, but he's actually talking about, I don't want a mom to know that I know that I'm a manhunter.
13:46 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, exactly.
13:47 --> 13:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I have access to all of these tools, so really interesting, family secret, family dynamic that's being kept.
13:55 --> 13:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I love this.
13:55 --> 14:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I love that we have the reveal of who the murder of Halis, and the final episode, there were loads and loads of theories throughout the season.
14:02 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather carry it ever really left our list, and I love that she was put back on the list by the Halagram last episode when he arrived and talked to her for the first time, and was like, oh, yes, you definitely killed me.
14:13 --> 14:36 [SPEAKER_02]: and then it moved around another few suspects but she was put back on top of the list so great writing that's it absolutely I really enjoyed the bread crumbs throughout the season so as you say with Carrie Kane but equally with nowhere but it's almost the absence of bread crumbs you like there's such a sensual moment between him and his grandmother as we we find out you know
14:39 --> 14:50 [SPEAKER_02]: evolve within the series, but it is doing out of sight out of my core, both what he thinks his mom and himself to, you know, from Kerry's point of view.
14:50 --> 14:51 [SPEAKER_02]: So also the origin.
14:51 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So I like the kind of little trails or lack of, that kind of hinted at, but never fully gave away stuff.
15:00 --> 15:05 [SPEAKER_02]: So actually, even though I'm there going, I knew Noah was up to something, I knew there was, you know,
15:09 --> 15:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It's actually really great for it to come out and be revealed.
15:14 --> 15:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know there's a problem with it either.
15:16 --> 15:23 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a whole thing of the mystery box which people talk about with things like lost where they didn't know where the show was actually going.
15:23 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_01]: They created a really fun, interesting show for five to seven seasons of the course of five seasons.
15:28 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_01]: That show I can never remember because the main
15:32 --> 15:44 [SPEAKER_01]: but they created a really interesting show and then closed out the storyline and by the end of it if you stayed with the whole thing the whole way through it you probably enjoyed the journey and probably enjoyed the characters and probably were happy with the satisfied with the end.
15:44 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_01]: If you jumped in to the final episode after watching a few seasons you probably weren't very satisfied with it because they didn't leave the breadcrum beg.
15:53 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_01]: because they didn't leave the breadcrumbs throughout the story.
15:56 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Whereas here I think you could watch lanterns on the first episode have a guest at who the murderer of Hal is and by the end of a be pretty satisfied with the reveal of who the murderer is and the reason why.
16:05 --> 16:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Because the complication really is in how it gets to the reason why.
16:10 --> 16:14 [SPEAKER_01]: This story of what actually happened or the story of partly what happened comes from
16:15 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_01]: the conversation with Sinester on this far-off planet, where John was torturing him to guess all of this information at him by dunking him in the waters of the fear sea or the fear lake, I guess, that he can't get past.
16:28 --> 16:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And we hear that effectively he has been stashed on the planet here by Noah, who has used his grandmother's, what are we calling it, the
16:43 --> 16:47 [SPEAKER_01]: who has been using his grandmother's portal to come to this planet.
16:47 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: He is the one that broke St. Esther at a prison.
16:50 --> 16:57 [SPEAKER_01]: He broke him out so he could get him to this planet and he could build him a lantern that would allow him to charge house ring when he still is.
16:57 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_01]: It would be the plan.
16:59 --> 17:01 [SPEAKER_01]: He never got to steal Hal's ring.
17:01 --> 17:13 [SPEAKER_01]: He never got back to Vizzenetron in ever got back to Vizzenetron on the planet, because when Hal found Ace, that no was the man hunter, he stole the portal and moved into his safe.
17:14 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
17:15 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And the reason he's back there is because he was able to get the portal out of the safe with John and come back here as the hologram.
17:21 --> 17:28 [SPEAKER_01]: And then that's how we learn everything from Sinestra, because Hal had gone there in the past until Sinestra, everything that had gone on from with Noah.
17:29 --> 17:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, absolutely, the reveal of Noah's really good.
17:33 --> 17:37 [SPEAKER_02]: I like how it sort of takes place over this episode.
17:37 --> 17:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, also just in terms of the merger, he does claim that he murders how.
17:42 --> 17:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, in order to effectively sort of protect his mom.
17:47 --> 17:52 [SPEAKER_02]: And whether he knows he didn't do it, he put his mom drink, who is it?
17:52 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess he's guessing that it's his mom.
17:56 --> 17:57 [SPEAKER_02]: So there is that,
17:59 --> 18:13 [SPEAKER_02]: element to the reveal of Carrie Kane again another dynamic within the Kane family as well and having him here but yet no a secret that he's a man hunter I love how this
18:14 --> 18:36 [SPEAKER_02]: ultimately comes from how being attacked in his own house, he's preparing a bit of steak and bison for Earl, and then he gets a Molotov cocktail thrown in as his house is fire bombed, and he really doesn't get out, he kind of crashes through the stairs as they've weakened in the fire, and he's lying there.
18:37 --> 18:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Presumably Earl is as well, because Earl does show up at the end, so Earl doesn't get burnt,
18:44 --> 18:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And we do see Earl when John Stewart's there.
18:47 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, so Earl manages to get out of the line as well.
18:50 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Presumably by now.
18:51 --> 18:53 [SPEAKER_02]: So, Noah saves two people.
18:53 --> 18:54 [SPEAKER_02]: There he go, yes.
18:54 --> 18:57 [SPEAKER_02]: And both Earl and John.
18:57 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_02]: John and Earl.
18:58 --> 19:00 [SPEAKER_02]: But the interesting thing here.
19:01 --> 19:14 [SPEAKER_02]: how wakes up there where I know her has repaired him kind of in the same way that his grand Mars Zoe had done to John Stuart with the the skin grafts with the machine there in this warehouse.
19:15 --> 19:27 [SPEAKER_02]: I do like to say he says I wish those away I could save you without realizing without you realizing what I am and this is where we find out that my mum doesn't know that I know
19:29 --> 19:43 [SPEAKER_02]: And then it sort of recounted, immediately cuts into Sinestro on the Alien World versus the boy as a manhunt, as he's speaking to John Stewart about how coming to tell him everything.
19:43 --> 19:57 [SPEAKER_02]: I like how it cut in and out of Sinestro here, where he talks about and he started to follow him and you see how he's sort of...
19:58 --> 20:05 [SPEAKER_02]: just making, keeping tabs on there because I think, and seeing what he gets up to, what he does, and...
20:07 --> 20:14 [SPEAKER_02]: But he seemingly has promised to respect Noah's secret to spite him sort of keeping tabs on him.
20:15 --> 20:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he promised that he wouldn't reveal the secret and then followed him and found out.
20:19 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_01]: He was going to the plot of the Fenders and Astro was there, yeah.
20:22 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_01]: And then that's when he goes back to tell Kerry that she knows her sons of man hunter and they need to get over this town.
20:29 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And the amount of jobs I already found there 10 years beforehand, and so he feels like we need to keep him safe.
20:37 --> 20:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Suggest that they go running and carry is gets completely freaked out by it almost as a reaction kills how.
20:45 --> 20:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not even a pretty meditative murder, it's reactionary.
20:50 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_01]: when he's telling her how serious what's going on with her kid is.
20:55 --> 21:03 [SPEAKER_01]: So interestingly, she also tells the story of the fact that when she got her finger replaced, she ended off being pregnant with Nella.
21:04 --> 21:09 [SPEAKER_01]: So was that intended by the manhunter to impregnator with Nella?
21:09 --> 21:15 [SPEAKER_01]: When we heard Zoe Meese carry the first time, she says, you're exactly what I'm looking for, effectively.
21:15 --> 21:18 [SPEAKER_01]: So was she looking to create a child or
21:19 --> 21:19 [SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
21:19 --> 21:20 [SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
21:21 --> 21:22 [SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
21:22 --> 21:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
21:23 --> 21:23 [SPEAKER_02]: It could be.
21:23 --> 21:25 [SPEAKER_02]: It certainly would.
21:25 --> 21:27 [SPEAKER_02]: It would certainly make sense for that.
21:27 --> 21:37 [SPEAKER_02]: That, you know, Zoe's language there was twofold, one that she could protect her when the time arose, which is kind of how you took it in that moment.
21:37 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_02]: But equally, you know, they say it's like some sort of experiment, but the technology is really advanced.
21:45 --> 21:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I think whether she's experimenting or not, so I think it might not be experimenting as such more.
21:53 --> 22:00 [SPEAKER_02]: This is what she's looking to do, as Kerry says, you know, I hadn't been with anyone for months, so she knew it wasn't her.
22:00 --> 22:03 [SPEAKER_02]: So, and I think this is part of Zoe's plan.
22:04 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_02]: We also do have how, sort of, saying before he's going to shot Juno if there are any more children in Rushfield that our manhunter's like, Noah, like, was this part of a big of plan?
22:17 --> 22:21 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, Zoe technically was the last manhunter.
22:22 --> 22:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
22:23 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_02]: she was looking to sort of build out the species again, in a sense, as far as she was aware, or at least to have these allies with her beyond just simple puny humans, and do you know what I mean?
22:37 --> 22:49 [SPEAKER_01]: So, you just wondered, but ultimately, Mary says no, but still, I still think they could make Maggie a manhunter in the future, potentially, you know, the fact that she gets all that money,
22:53 --> 23:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I did just didn't, there was enough of the character and what was left on screen that I know anything other than her father died in the big attack and John gave her money because she said, I want money off you.
23:06 --> 23:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
23:08 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Like she was blackmailing John saying that she would tell everybody or tell Kerry that he was the one that punched how in the face.
23:16 --> 23:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, none of that really married because Kerry was the one that killed her.
23:19 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_02]: i mean i i think well carry does you know she makes that choice and it's an interesting one because i'm like what is like it does feel inherently like a choice of a mother to protect her child yeah however it is it more because how knows i mean because she's kind of like a new should never have come back before sort of it's almost like he winds her up to the point where
23:43 --> 23:58 [SPEAKER_02]: that's her reaction is to pull out spin around and and shoot him in the head and like in a sense it's not premeditated she didn't draw him to the grounds of the football pitch to do that but you know
23:59 --> 24:03 [SPEAKER_02]: it's how that's kind of burst her bubble to say that he knows what he is.
24:04 --> 24:18 [SPEAKER_02]: She didn't know that because she says well he doesn't know what he is but he's like he does and he's doing stuff that's really potentially very very dangerous and he's got a plan and you need to leave
24:19 --> 24:24 [SPEAKER_02]: the town, you need to sort of pack your bags and get out of town.
24:24 --> 24:35 [SPEAKER_02]: So all of this becomes too much in this moment for Kerry and and it plays out with her shooting him in the hat.
24:35 --> 24:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so
24:36 --> 24:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Again, really interesting here because, you know, that reaction to the hologram in the classroom and the chemistry classroom really good.
24:48 --> 24:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I like that the hologram as well was like, well.
24:52 --> 24:57 [SPEAKER_02]: I think she may have killed, but you know, putting her on the menu from the previous episodes.
24:58 --> 24:59 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, all this was really good.
25:00 --> 25:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought how it tied in to be honest.
25:02 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
25:03 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
25:04 --> 25:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Anything else on that main reveal at the end of the episode?
25:07 --> 25:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I know we got lots of other stuff to talk about as well.
25:09 --> 25:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I just like the thing that Carrie says to John Stuart really and where she says she escaped from a monster in Gotham and she wanted to make sure that she wasn't raising a monster.
25:27 --> 25:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I kind of did like this and I think this plays in a part of our second point as well but I liked
25:36 --> 25:41 [SPEAKER_02]: That's what she needs to know, and maybe in that moment when she killed how she didn't know that.
25:42 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_02]: And that's why it was too much for her.
25:44 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
25:44 --> 25:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
25:45 --> 25:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
25:45 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I really like the explanation there as to why she called John after 10 years, something being out of 10, having no connection with her, why would she call him to say, how's Dad, and actually because she recognises he's a good investigator.
25:59 --> 26:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm bringing back to the Tanya, you might be able to give her the answer that she's really looking for, which is, yeah, that's a really cool tie-in for our tie-up for that storyline.
26:08 --> 26:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, sure we get into our power-ring point number two.
26:12 --> 26:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Let's do it!
26:17 --> 26:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Jon Stewart's journey.
26:20 --> 26:26 [SPEAKER_02]: We effectively have Jon going from apprentice to the master.
26:26 --> 26:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the Green Lantern, but not the Green Lantern.
26:29 --> 26:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the kind of more, I guess, somewhere in between Green and Yellow Lantern.
26:35 --> 26:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the green yellow lanterns.
26:37 --> 26:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you know what I really like about this?
26:38 --> 26:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Because I was saying to Chris off all fair, because Chris is a big comic fan, he knows a bit more about the green lanterns and the lanterns overall from comic books.
26:48 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_01]: And I'd kind of said, look, we'll pair back on sharing stuff about the 60 years of comic knowledge unless it's set on screen, unless things are done on screen.
26:56 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So,
26:57 --> 27:01 [SPEAKER_01]: The idea of the green and yellow lantern stuff isn't really talked about on screen.
27:01 --> 27:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It's like the first creation of it is what we see in this episode here.
27:06 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
27:06 --> 27:16 [SPEAKER_01]: But we haven't got this whole group of other space aliens who are running around with yellow rings and they're being powered by fear or anything like that here.
27:17 --> 27:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Sinestro, who has turned on the Green Lantern core.
27:20 --> 27:35 [SPEAKER_01]: He was released from prison by Noah brought to this planet to make a new Green Lantern So he could charge up house ring when he gets it and while he's built this lantern on this planet It's been infused with the fear of the people that were killed there by the man hunters.
27:35 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_01]: There's loads of those yellow marks So I streaks through this green Lantern
27:40 --> 27:51 [SPEAKER_01]: And there's the worry what's going to happen when you charge your ring with this newly created lantern by Sinester and he's gone, well kind of harnesses the power of fear, which the guardians don't want, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
27:51 --> 27:53 [SPEAKER_01]: But that's all we know by the end of this.
27:54 --> 27:58 [SPEAKER_01]: There's no other sect out there of different types of lanterns.
27:58 --> 28:01 [SPEAKER_01]: It is purely what we know is as the green lanterns.
28:02 --> 28:07 [SPEAKER_01]: And now there's a possibility of this yellow streak of fear going through this particular lantern.
28:07 --> 28:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean there's been some nice sort of
28:11 --> 28:26 [SPEAKER_02]: just like chats with Sinatra, I liked how, you know, he was saying, they think it's a weakness to have fear, but it can be used as a strong force for change effectively.
28:26 --> 28:31 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's kind of saying, it's the character, it's the stick to, you know, a character
28:39 --> 28:50 [SPEAKER_02]: feeds into, I guess, John Stuart's journey or of him, sort of, calling Guy Gardener, which will come to him in a minute.
28:50 --> 28:56 [SPEAKER_02]: But it feeds in such a journey of trying to be the man, a man with
29:05 --> 29:10 [SPEAKER_02]: the recognition of his own fear in a number of ways.
29:10 --> 29:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Won't from how saying it to him.
29:14 --> 29:22 [SPEAKER_02]: But also I think what's really good is that he chooses that compassion over fear when asked by Noah to kill him.
29:23 --> 29:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I think this is like Noah's own fear of him.
29:29 --> 29:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Realizing his court between these two worlds, I think Sinestro talks about it being, you know, nature versus nurture.
29:36 --> 29:50 [SPEAKER_02]: There is the whole thing and that the nature will always win out irrespective of how much nurture is going on, I think, and I love that nobody just takes whatever Sinestro says at face value.
29:50 --> 29:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Sinestro is here saying, you know, show me a society has no fear.
29:54 --> 29:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll show you a society that's on the way to extinction.
29:56 --> 30:04 [SPEAKER_01]: he says, Noah is definitely going to be overcome by his nature, nurture, won't save him.
30:05 --> 30:06 [SPEAKER_01]: And John ignores that completely.
30:06 --> 30:08 [SPEAKER_01]: That's not what he's hearing when he's talking to Noah.
30:09 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_01]: What he's hearing is kind of what happens to every single person when they're going through their teenage years.
30:14 --> 30:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I could go into the really bad side of my psyche, and I could go for the worst thing possible ever.
30:20 --> 30:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I could go and kill somebody, I could go and take over the world.
30:23 --> 30:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Or I could go ice and set myself up for life, have a great time and playing football, and get memories and have kids.
30:31 --> 30:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
30:33 --> 30:34 [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of the choice that everybody can make.
30:34 --> 30:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So some big some to a lesser extent than others this is the the focus of this show is he's a very powerful being he could do either of those two things and John's willing to let him live his life whatever way he will live it out but he is going to be standing over him watching the
30:59 --> 31:00 [SPEAKER_02]: killing him effectively.
31:00 --> 31:15 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not necessary even over fear and but that's because he sees the compassion in nowhere Not just in terms of is it just something that he's going through because he's a teenager, but you know he tries to protect his mom.
31:15 --> 31:17 [SPEAKER_02]: He tries to save how
31:17 --> 31:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, as we were just saying before, he says, if there was any other way, I could have saved you without showing up my identity, I would have done it.
31:26 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_02]: And he is pretending to have murdered someone so that his mum doesn't get the blame for that.
31:40 --> 31:44 [SPEAKER_01]: more of the recruits gets out to maybe pick one of the members of a team to go on to college.
31:45 --> 31:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
31:45 --> 32:05 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's that John sees in Noah's own choices, his own reasoning that he is showing compassion above this programming that he's so fearful that he's just going to sort of do or what how Sinestro has described and you know he still has the thoughts.
32:05 --> 32:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean as you say
32:09 --> 32:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Some of these ideas around power, politics, going to anapolis.
32:17 --> 32:28 [SPEAKER_02]: getting into the armed forces, getting into the secret service and slowly but surely working his way up to the height of power, the presidency.
32:28 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So he does have these thoughts, he doesn't know where they come from, but I like it's in the little choices that he makes that you have
32:44 --> 32:57 [SPEAKER_02]: extends that to him by not killing him and he just tell Kerry that he asked me to kill him and like this is the weirdest sentence to say to anyone.
32:58 --> 32:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to.
32:59 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_02]: So I can't really like that about John's and
33:03 --> 33:20 [SPEAKER_02]: sort of thing here, is that even though he's gotten the fear sort of imbued into the lantern of the alien world, it's not, you know, that's that he's experienced it himself in the water, all of that, that he's not sort of
33:22 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_02]: projecting that fear of how Noah might be in 20 years to make a decision about Noah now.
33:30 --> 33:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
33:30 --> 33:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
33:31 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I love the part of it is John saying, you know, I often ask myself, is that the program in the mix we do that is the program that makes me do this, the journey that his parents put him on, and then he goes, oh bullshit, it's just, it's just choices that we make as we go through our lives and we can make those choices.
33:47 --> 34:11 [SPEAKER_01]: But absolutely the decision that he makes at the end of the episode to be the Lantern for Earth not for this entire sector not to be the entire Green Lantern Connected to the Guardians the choice he's made here is I presume because he's left a man hunter alive on Earth and he's going to be there to ensure the Earth survives if this man hunter decides to change its mind and go for power
34:12 --> 34:20 [SPEAKER_01]: So I like that, you know, I think that's really interesting that he leans back on his old his old conditioning that came from his parents as well.
34:21 --> 34:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
34:21 --> 34:27 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a really good point.
34:27 --> 34:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I think also, you know, he doesn't turn carry in because he thinks that's not what how would have wanted.
34:39 --> 34:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Even though Kerry is like saying, look, let me watch the game and then I'll turn myself in and he's like, nope, there's no need, it's not what Hal would have wanted, all of that's just really, really good.
34:49 --> 35:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And then we see, as you say, him breaking away from the Guardians and the Corps, the Green Lantern Corps, with his summoning of Guy Gardner again.
35:02 --> 35:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Which, again, I'd really enjoyed Nathan Phillian's portrayal here.
35:06 --> 35:11 [SPEAKER_02]: I still can't care if the herdee, I guess I can.
35:11 --> 35:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Or maybe it's the gold tooth I've been told I shouldn't be focused on the gold tooth.
35:16 --> 35:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I think the gold tooth is the least of Guy Gawdner's worries in America.
35:21 --> 35:22 [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine if he wants to.
35:22 --> 35:24 [SPEAKER_01]: That's his haircut, the comics as we go.
35:24 --> 35:27 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot easier to do with getting rid of his gold tooth.
35:32 --> 35:42 [SPEAKER_02]: listen to, stop beaming the lantern sort of symbol or signal, I should say, you know, this is just for, like, emergent seas.
35:43 --> 35:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And you know, gradually gets told about, um,
35:48 --> 35:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I think he sees the ring, but it's also John, basically telling him, you know, I just say, there's a great line.
35:54 --> 35:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I'll take the dirt to you take the start, have fun with this.
35:58 --> 35:58 [SPEAKER_02]: That's what I mean.
35:59 --> 36:03 [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I don't think our paths will cross him, and pretty sure they won't.
36:04 --> 36:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And guys, like,
36:06 --> 36:13 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think they might do, he's like, no, they won't, because we'll be doing completely different things for different reasons.
36:13 --> 36:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Because, like how that kind of comes from a guy taking a fence at John asking him to take a message back to the gardens and he's like, I'm not your Aaron Boy and he's like, no, but you are this.
36:29 --> 36:31 [SPEAKER_02]: just so really well written.
36:31 --> 36:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I loved how it all played off and and ultimately then this suggestion from from John again real confidence ready to take the ring like he wasn't back in episode five after the big battle in Rushville and this is on his terms it's not somebody telling him this is why you have to do for us you know it's really different one slight thing
36:56 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_01]: May add some context and the comics you may have talked about earlier on in the season as kind of remember, but one thing that might add some context.
37:02 --> 37:09 [SPEAKER_01]: The entire sector here, the guy gardeners in charge of as the green lantern of the sector, is absolutely gigantic.
37:09 --> 37:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Earth was just a spec of dust in a massive galaxy and a massive sector.
37:13 --> 37:22 [SPEAKER_01]: There was no real focus on it at all over time, as the comic books continued to became a really important planet, of course, as it would because all the lectures are from Earth.
37:22 --> 37:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
37:24 --> 37:30 [SPEAKER_01]: But the idea of him going, I'm going to protect this individual planet and you protect the rest of the sector.
37:30 --> 37:32 [SPEAKER_01]: That wouldn't really matter to the Guardians.
37:32 --> 37:36 [SPEAKER_01]: There has been this battle on Earth with the Mound Hunters, but it's gone now.
37:36 --> 37:40 [SPEAKER_01]: It's okay to take one planet out of the entire remish of Guy Gardner.
37:40 --> 37:42 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not a big deal to have done that.
37:43 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_01]: At least in the arena.
37:44 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's obvious to be like with Captain Marvel, really, and how
37:49 --> 37:57 [SPEAKER_02]: in Engage is like there's plenty of other planets and systems out the not just Earth that need help them have gone through what you have.
37:57 --> 37:59 [SPEAKER_02]: And so it's kind of a factor here as the actors.
38:00 --> 38:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Kind of that notion, which is a good one.
38:03 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_02]: It is also
38:05 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_02]: And like he's very specific about the message, yes, to that guy needs to tell the guardians is that if they search their hearts, they'll find it in them to let me be.
38:19 --> 38:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And so immediately I thought the suggestion that the guardians are also manhunter's.
38:28 --> 38:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, maybe I think it might just because the other thing that was delivered by John Stewart along with the ring and the lantern was the harsh of the manhunter so that he was saying, look what I did for you, you can give me this one plan.
38:41 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe.
38:42 --> 38:43 [SPEAKER_02]: It could be that.
38:43 --> 38:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
38:44 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I just thought, yeah, okay, grand, so that makes more sense, actually.
38:48 --> 38:50 [SPEAKER_02]: I just was like, it's suggesting that they could be
38:51 --> 38:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Man hunters, like the secret is safe with me.
38:55 --> 38:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that kind of thing I was...
38:57 --> 39:03 [SPEAKER_01]: They created them, I don't know that, and the only thing they couldn't create is the harsh that was different from that original heart.
39:03 --> 39:08 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's kind of up for grabs, I guess.
39:08 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_01]: But it is to do with just leaping alone and look what it did for you.
39:11 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is kind of what I took it out anyway.
39:14 --> 39:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
39:15 --> 39:16 [SPEAKER_02]: definitely.
39:16 --> 39:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And also, I like then we have how kind of saying, don't be afraid to be afraid.
39:24 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_02]: This idea of only fearless people being able to wield the the ring,
39:33 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_02]: how does putting that to bed?
39:35 --> 39:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of like that little bit of advice to John from the Hallogram.
39:42 --> 39:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, this final conversation is so interesting with the Hallogram, I think, you know, we disappears, he allows John to go through the whole point of interrogating Noah and finding it all about what was happening with Noah, not interrogating, but
39:55 --> 39:56 [SPEAKER_01]: finding out what was going on with Noah.
39:56 --> 40:12 [SPEAKER_01]: He lies and to go along and find out what's going on with Kerry, find out what happens, make his own decisions, then suddenly he appears back up after he's talked to Guy and John goes to him, hang on a second, where have you been like four around, I've been in your subconscious, basically.
40:12 --> 40:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So he's been hearing the whole thing through John's subconscious and didn't come out at any point.
40:16 --> 40:21 [SPEAKER_01]: to sway John's decision and says to him, I believe you're going to be better at this than I am.
40:21 --> 40:26 [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't even give us opinion at the end as to whether John's made the right or wrong decision as far as the holograms concerned.
40:27 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_01]: He's made the decision that John would make.
40:28 --> 40:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's something about better decision.
40:30 --> 40:32 [SPEAKER_01]: And of it, none of us carry as well, yeah.
40:32 --> 40:38 [SPEAKER_01]: and about taking the rain and about, you know, all of those things that he's made, and he doesn't give any opinion at all.
40:38 --> 40:41 [SPEAKER_01]: He just says, you're going to be better at this job than I was, which I read.
40:41 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I also love a great little, kind of joke there, but a lovely moment between the two guys when he asks John what were his last words, because he kind of fizzled it.
40:52 --> 40:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Even though he heard absolutely every other word that was said, he asked John what my last words again, and he says, I love you, and he goes, I love you, teaching you.
41:00 --> 41:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:02 --> 41:21 [SPEAKER_02]: absolutely absolutely and he says don't be afraid to be afraid as well kind of because you know charge the ring because already previously told him charge the ring because if you don't you'll die and that's back in with Sinestro on the Alien World and here again
41:22 --> 41:23 [SPEAKER_02]: the danger has passed.
41:23 --> 41:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just saying don't be afraid to charge that ring because how will be reset effectively.
41:31 --> 41:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's what I mean, the consciousness of the hologram goes.
41:37 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_02]: That was the warning from from Sinestra.
41:39 --> 41:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm the big
41:40 --> 41:52 [SPEAKER_01]: The big thing that's Anastro is trying to stoke there, the fear is if the ring is taken by a new owner or a young steward, and how is wiped from it, then he can never be brought back.
41:52 --> 41:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Anastro put it on the table, I know how to bring him back as long as you don't wipe him from the ring.
41:57 --> 42:06 [SPEAKER_01]: But I definitely think that was semester actually saying I have a way to bring Hal back in the future And when Hal says I was in your subconscious.
42:07 --> 42:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll be here whenever you need me I think there is still going to be a way if we do get a season 2 that they'll bring Hal back using whatever it is the semester Suggesting yeah, I think there'll be some way to do it.
42:17 --> 42:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure the will.
42:18 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure the will yeah So I really like this this kind of a little bit of redemption for Hal as well, you know, yeah
42:26 --> 42:38 [SPEAKER_02]: from being that can tanker a sort of mental and teacher not really doing it to this, you know, finally, to the, you know, whether it's through his own mortality, his own death and through the
42:44 --> 42:47 [SPEAKER_02]: the current hell.
42:47 --> 42:51 [SPEAKER_02]: There has been this redemption here and I think John appreciates that.
42:51 --> 43:04 [SPEAKER_02]: You can sense that has been the best training he's gotten from him and it's meaningful to him as someone that has been in perpetual training by his parents since he's five years old.
43:04 --> 43:05 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, really,
43:17 --> 43:20 [SPEAKER_02]: for our powering point number three, yeah, how's legacy?
43:21 --> 43:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Effectively, a new oath here, kind of sort of being channeled from, don't be afraid to be afraid, and all this outpouring of teachings, you know, the the non-judgmental and side of it, but also, he says, well,
43:40 --> 43:43 [SPEAKER_02]: when when John Stuart saying, well, the earth doesn't really sit right for me.
43:44 --> 43:47 [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, well, create a new one.
43:47 --> 43:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're already got, you're only taking somebody else's ring.
43:50 --> 43:53 [SPEAKER_01]: You've already got a lantern that's been created by Sinaster that you're gonna be charging it with.
43:54 --> 43:56 [SPEAKER_01]: You must just create a new earth that takes you to.
43:57 --> 44:01 [SPEAKER_01]: and you're only going to be in charge of earth enough for the rest of the sector, not the only green lanterns somebody else that's doing that.
44:01 --> 44:03 [SPEAKER_01]: So just do your own, your own oath.
44:04 --> 44:16 [SPEAKER_01]: And it is, yeah, it's a really interesting one where he's saying, I'll embrace my fear, I'll do what's right, I'll choose this ring and I choose this fight in service to the lanterns like, you know, that's the difference between John's version of the oath.
44:16 --> 44:20 [SPEAKER_01]: There's that he's saying he chooses this fight, he chooses to do this job.
44:21 --> 44:25 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not the ring landed on my finger and I'm being forced into this position.
44:25 --> 44:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I am choosing my own destiny.
44:27 --> 44:31 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm choosing my own future at very different for John's version of the Earth.
44:31 --> 44:37 [SPEAKER_01]: The address that we talked about, that's the first episode that the Earth is always the thing that is written on the comic book page.
44:37 --> 44:40 [SPEAKER_01]: You've cut a quickly read through it very quickly.
44:40 --> 44:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, granted I had to the Earth.
44:41 --> 44:43 [SPEAKER_01]: It's been set a million times before.
44:43 --> 44:59 [SPEAKER_01]: and throughout this series, sometimes it's mumbled, sometimes it's said really quickly by how when he's charging his ring as we saw it earlier on, and here this out is actually a much more clear version of the out that we've heard at the other version of it at all.
44:59 --> 45:06 [SPEAKER_01]: This is the moment when John chooses his own oath is much more clear than the one that Hal has been using throughout the series.
45:06 --> 45:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, definitely.
45:08 --> 45:11 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think the other thing as well that we have here is we see
45:13 --> 45:31 [SPEAKER_02]: John Stuart giving Maggie the money in the end with a little note saying I'm still sorry and we see him returning home to his brothers, the embraces, as well as his dad is not in the car home, he's been brought back home, I guess.
45:31 --> 45:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Enough windows have been smashed to get him out of there and we see Earl at the home.
45:39 --> 45:48 [SPEAKER_02]: He's there, yes, so we have Earl in a safe place which is always good to note after carnivorous plant and we see his mom
45:51 --> 45:58 [SPEAKER_02]: coming out of the dying room, sort of giving a big hug and sort of tearing up as she's hugging, she's got her boy back.
45:58 --> 46:11 [SPEAKER_02]: We know there've been a strange for 10 years, but equally just that stress, that commitment to their kids, train him to be fearless, everything that they've gone through.
46:12 --> 46:17 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it kind of took me back to him talking about that
46:19 --> 46:30 [SPEAKER_02]: She was holding her breath, she's now allowed to breathe, just with her son, as her son, nothing else matters in that sense.
46:30 --> 46:31 [SPEAKER_02]: And he's lying to as well.
46:31 --> 46:32 [SPEAKER_02]: And he's lying to as well.
46:32 --> 46:33 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's us help.
46:33 --> 46:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
46:35 --> 46:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, yeah.
46:36 --> 46:44 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a big moment having the show end this way with John going back to his family.
46:44 --> 46:47 [SPEAKER_01]: He is the lantern and how it's gone.
46:47 --> 46:51 [SPEAKER_01]: But what he's left behind is someone that's going to be even better at the job than he was, as he said.
46:51 --> 46:55 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, great little final moment for the episode.
46:55 --> 47:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Any notes anything else that you want to talk about that we haven't talked about in the episode or anything else you want to add as we close out the episode.
47:01 --> 47:19 [SPEAKER_02]: I think my only note was kind of, you know, in terms of where the green lanterns go from here and maybe the wider DC universe is like, you know, as a sum up really, it's just, you know, we have John Stuart, who's now Earth's independent contractor green lantern, as we've been saying.
47:19 --> 47:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
47:19 --> 47:25 [SPEAKER_02]: We have Guy Gardner, who is absolutely back in the picture, but for the wider sector of 281-4.
47:27 --> 47:32 [SPEAKER_01]: which means to support Man of Tomorrow where we'll see your guard down next, we'll probably take place out in space.
47:32 --> 47:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
47:34 --> 47:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And interestingly, Sinestra is left on the alien world, but he remains there and is technically still a threat.
47:42 --> 47:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Certainly if you've got a portal.
47:44 --> 47:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Well then.
47:45 --> 47:58 [SPEAKER_02]: And either it's a portal directly in there or at least the boat to get across because it does feel like he's still in a prison because of the water that surrounds this island infused with the fear.
47:59 --> 48:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's the campswim that it would just lead to madness and death.
48:02 --> 48:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's the cast away here.
48:03 --> 48:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I know there's one of those moments where I was like, I shouldn't be thinking about this, but what a celestial eat because they've still come in this forge in a place where he can't swim
48:14 --> 48:16 [SPEAKER_01]: lands there, I guess there's nothing on my mind.
48:16 --> 48:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It's also a few points of fear.
48:18 --> 48:22 [SPEAKER_01]: So they've brought all the birds and fish of all killed each other as well.
48:22 --> 48:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but he's still, he remains alive so he remains a possible threat.
48:29 --> 48:34 [SPEAKER_02]: We have Noah who is potentially, I've kind of
48:35 --> 48:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I had down as an enormously powerful unknown effectively, like yes, I think John's judgment call with him is right and certainly in that moment, but when could it not potentially be right and how would that work out?
48:54 --> 48:56 [SPEAKER_02]: It could be loads of things with, you know,
48:58 --> 49:24 [SPEAKER_02]: super villains as much as super heroes on the planet so I like that and you then have John with this fear infused lantern you know what are the consequences we do say that there are potential consequences for using that lantern from hell from the hologram so it's just a nice little touch as you say and there's no
49:24 --> 49:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Distinction around, not about the colours, it's about the fear, infusion of the lantern and being able to control it.
49:35 --> 49:41 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, we do know of the Skirko and Gotham that uses fear.
49:42 --> 49:44 [SPEAKER_02]: So it can be a very...
49:44 --> 49:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I hope so.
49:45 --> 49:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, very potent motivator.
49:49 --> 49:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
49:51 --> 49:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
49:52 --> 50:11 [SPEAKER_02]: So that was my that was kind of my main sort of note was just like like kind of a little sum up I think because I think there's loads here and I'm really excited to see I guess the lanterns season two or within the wider DC unit yeah yeah I hope they were turned in the future it was a bit a bit of a
50:14 --> 50:40 [SPEAKER_01]: missed opportunity in the sniderverse to not have anything to do with the lanterns when we had all the different members of the Justice League coming together back then, so I'm glad that in these early days of James Gunn, Peter Safran's universe, that we have a really great version of the lanterns out here, so I hope they're able to do something with it in the future, especially as we mentioned at the start, the racings have been absolutely massive, so let's hope that they're
50:44 --> 51:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Just to mention the X and Tune they chose to and the episode arm was hero by Michael Kyrnooka Absolutely love love his music and it's a great a great tune to close everything out as John's Finishing off all the little things that he has to finish it off before he leaves It's really good I'm back to the beginning of the episode of that we did go to 2016 and saw the aftermath of the battle of Rushville I love that we saw the water temperature fall over just to indicate that was actually where we were
51:12 --> 51:13 [SPEAKER_01]: though that was really cool.
51:13 --> 51:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Interestingly, we didn't see the body of Zoe.
51:15 --> 51:18 [SPEAKER_01]: When Carrie came to the motel, I don't know why.
51:18 --> 51:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I know that John, obviously, cut her heart out, so maybe it would have been a bit gruesome if it was a body of mine.
51:22 --> 51:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a big idea.
51:23 --> 51:26 [SPEAKER_02]: But we got a glimpse of the leg.
51:26 --> 51:26 [SPEAKER_01]: We did.
51:26 --> 51:28 [SPEAKER_01]: We could have seen a chest opened out.
51:31 --> 51:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I just thought it was interesting.
51:33 --> 51:34 [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't see that, but we saw the leg.
51:34 --> 51:39 [SPEAKER_01]: The leg we believe is Maggie's father, where was his leg?
51:40 --> 51:40 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what we think.
51:40 --> 51:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, then Hal just comment on the fact that he knows at that point that he will be convicted by any court in the lounge who will wish us to accuse him of reckless endangerment and there will be no pushback by the Guardians, which solves their problem nice and neatly.
51:57 --> 52:04 [SPEAKER_01]: thought that was interesting, and then I loved that we had him come back to town in 2026 and we saw everything going on.
52:04 --> 52:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I loved that dinner in the the pizza area where everybody in town is staring at the two of them.
52:09 --> 52:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I called it the garlic bread and and smells.
52:12 --> 52:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't like that actually.
52:14 --> 52:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Ever just staring at him through a gritted teeth and carry standing up to tell everybody.
52:19 --> 52:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, he's a hero in most other places around the globe.
52:23 --> 52:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Here he is a heated man,
52:27 --> 52:27 [SPEAKER_01]: He's come here.
52:27 --> 52:38 [SPEAKER_01]: He deserves peace even if he don't like him effectively Yeah, someone obviously wasn't wasn't there for that because somebody set fire to his eyes I wasn't there.
52:38 --> 52:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't carry so who was the person who was Billy to think Billy?
52:42 --> 52:43 [SPEAKER_01]: It could have been.
52:43 --> 52:43 [SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not.
52:43 --> 52:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I had to think he just, you know, since his, his mom and his dad basically were killed by him or his, as a dad and a step mom, sorry, were killed by, by the actions of how, maybe he's the one that blew up the house.
52:56 --> 53:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Weird to have Jason Rischer in that role of Noah's dad and Kerry's husband and only have him in the show for a bit.
53:04 --> 53:04 [SPEAKER_01]: two or three seedings.
53:05 --> 53:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
53:06 --> 53:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Very little screen time really.
53:08 --> 53:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a couple of seeds.
53:10 --> 53:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, other all quite important seeds, but I just thought it was, it was art to have an actor so well known to be, to be only in the show this moment.
53:17 --> 53:21 [SPEAKER_01]: And the last thing I just want to mention about that time, we had the flashback to John.
53:21 --> 53:27 [SPEAKER_01]: is just his message and the chance people hate him because they left the message of leave Tanaehol on his lawn.
53:28 --> 53:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Dylan in their own human manure which takes time.
53:31 --> 53:36 [SPEAKER_01]: You probably could have left the Ahol off the end of that sentence and it's still what about the point.
53:36 --> 53:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm Carrie just saying maybe.
53:38 --> 53:38 [SPEAKER_00]: A.L.
53:38 --> 53:41 [SPEAKER_00]: was the point to them.
53:41 --> 53:42 [SPEAKER_01]: That was really good.
53:43 --> 53:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Right, that's it.
53:43 --> 53:48 [SPEAKER_01]: The last point, Kerry, saying she ran away from a monster to get here in Gotham.
53:49 --> 53:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Playface is coming out at the end of the month.
53:50 --> 53:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Playface is in Gotham.
53:52 --> 53:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a connection that's confirmed right there.
53:54 --> 53:58 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a Kerry saying she ran away from playface to go to a to go to Rushville.
54:00 --> 54:00 [SPEAKER_01]: No, probably not.
54:00 --> 54:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
54:02 --> 54:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Play faces of monster?
54:03 --> 54:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he certainly is, or really, well, by the end of the movie, we will find that he isn't a monster at all.
54:09 --> 54:11 [SPEAKER_01]: He's just, the friend you made along the way.
54:11 --> 54:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
54:12 --> 54:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It'd be interesting if it was a tie-in.
54:14 --> 54:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not entirely sure.
54:15 --> 54:16 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to be a tie-in.
54:16 --> 54:17 [SPEAKER_02]: No, it was just making a joke.
54:17 --> 54:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Grand.
54:17 --> 54:18 [SPEAKER_01]: OK.
54:18 --> 54:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I'd sometimes say no with you joking or being serious.
54:21 --> 54:22 [SPEAKER_01]: 21 years together and just still don't know.
54:22 --> 54:23 [SPEAKER_02]: No.
54:23 --> 54:24 [SPEAKER_02]: So it makes it fun, isn't it?
54:24 --> 54:24 [SPEAKER_02]: No.
54:26 --> 54:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Alright, with that, any final thoughts on the episode?
54:29 --> 54:32 [SPEAKER_01]: What's your final rating for the final episode?
54:32 --> 54:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I really enjoyed this little great ending wrapping everything up.
54:36 --> 54:41 [SPEAKER_02]: I gave this five post-coital crocodile boots out of five.
54:42 --> 54:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess that is well, yeah.
54:43 --> 54:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I'll image of how...
54:45 --> 54:52 [SPEAKER_02]: On his bed after a bit of nookie with Harry, still in his boots, wow, what a man.
54:52 --> 54:53 [SPEAKER_02]: What a game.
54:53 --> 54:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Keep the boots on.
54:54 --> 54:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
54:54 --> 54:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
54:56 --> 54:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Did she work her sheriff's hat?
54:58 --> 54:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure she did.
54:59 --> 55:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sure she did.
55:01 --> 55:04 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I really enjoyed how this sort of laid out.
55:04 --> 55:07 [SPEAKER_02]: I love the intricacies primarily of Harry Kane.
55:08 --> 55:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Noah and their family, how that was interwoven with Sinestro on another alien world.
55:15 --> 55:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I like some of the tantalizing stuff, Sinestro, dropped about the possibility of bringing hell back to life, whether that's possible anymore.
55:25 --> 55:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Now that John Stuart has charged his ring, but also I love
55:36 --> 55:39 [SPEAKER_02]: that John Stuart takes and grasps hold of.
55:39 --> 55:45 [SPEAKER_02]: What is Mom and Dad having been telling him was his destiny to become the Green Lantern Bun.
55:46 --> 55:48 [SPEAKER_02]: As I say, it's done on his terms.
55:48 --> 55:52 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not about being the Aaron Boy for the Guardians, it is.
55:53 --> 56:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm protecting Earth, Earth is my sector and I just in some real tantalising stuff with the fear infused lanterns are saying, but yeah, I just really enjoyed how this
56:09 --> 56:12 [SPEAKER_02]: play it out and cover everything off.
56:12 --> 56:14 [SPEAKER_02]: So comprehensively.
56:14 --> 56:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
56:14 --> 56:17 [SPEAKER_01]: And we did even talk at the biggest decision that happened in the episode.
56:17 --> 56:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Noah is going to the University of Nebraska for the Cornhospers to play for the others.
56:22 --> 56:22 [SPEAKER_01]: That is true.
56:22 --> 56:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
56:23 --> 56:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But it's the most important thing.
56:24 --> 56:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I would say I really enjoyed that because I just burst out laughing because the guy came over and did his feel that, oh you, you've not wearing this.
56:34 --> 56:49 [SPEAKER_02]: you know, do you want to work the hat sort of offering him the place and the sports scholarship and all that at the the university and he puts it on his big hair is just like sticking out at the side and it'll sort of
56:50 --> 57:05 [SPEAKER_02]: That's really realistic that after a sweaty sort of four hours of doing American football there is hell would be all over the place coming in and out of the the protective helmet and he puts the thing and he's just got his madder and that's really cool.
57:06 --> 57:13 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah for me I really enjoyed this five post-coital crocodile boots out of five for me.
57:13 --> 57:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Fantastic.
57:14 --> 57:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic.
57:15 --> 57:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's been an epic season of TV, definitely, and a big final score for that final episode as well.
57:22 --> 57:25 [SPEAKER_01]: John, I think we need to go to the pub and have a drink.
57:26 --> 57:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we do.
57:27 --> 57:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Indeed, yes, fellow quizzes, fellow lanterns.
57:31 --> 57:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to the Rushville Redneck Barquiz.
57:36 --> 57:46 [SPEAKER_02]: It is the final episode, so we're on to Question 8 of the bar quiz, which is what is the name of the beer that Kerry Kane brings how when he leaves prison in 2026?
57:49 --> 57:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to see if we are ready for a beer.
57:51 --> 57:52 [SPEAKER_02]: We certainly are.
57:52 --> 57:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to get the question more, Tangerine?
57:54 --> 57:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
57:54 --> 58:01 [SPEAKER_02]: What is the name of the beer that Carrie Kane brings how when he leaves prison in 2026?
58:01 --> 58:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic.
58:02 --> 58:03 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a final question.
58:03 --> 58:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Of Ace, put all of your correct answers together and email them to us as soon as possible.
58:07 --> 58:16 [SPEAKER_01]: To feedback, ask T, V, podcast, industries.com and you can be in the chance of getting your hands on some lanterns, goodies if you're pulled out of the virtual has.
58:16 --> 58:18 [SPEAKER_01]: in our finale wrap-up episode.
58:18 --> 58:31 [SPEAKER_01]: As we mentioned, we're recording a little bit early this week, so if you didn't get the chance to get your feedback in, include some feedback on the season as well at 2.email address or pop on our Facebook group at facebook.com slash groups slash TV podcast industries.
58:31 --> 58:40 [SPEAKER_01]: You can leave a thoughts on the spoiler post over there or pop on our discord at the details of which are on the show notes for this episode and leave your thoughts on the finale post there.
58:41 --> 58:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but we do have some feedback in already, uh, first ups on e-mail feedback from Coffee and vodka, who says greetings fellow old yellow defenders.
58:52 --> 58:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Usually, I need a couple of days to wake into these episodes before knowing what to say.
58:57 --> 59:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Still do, but with an expected early recording, guess I'll have to wing it.
59:02 --> 59:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Proper closure all the way around, with just enough left over, Sinestro in Yellow Lanternland, knows future a mystery, should season two be a thing, nice to see that John can find me fly, but doesn't nearly balance out the loss of Earl.
59:17 --> 59:26 [SPEAKER_02]: His final moment is Add Dreamhunter, with everyone else ending just where they should, calling this episode as season a well-landed winner.
59:26 --> 59:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Still a Tamer closer than expected, until recalling this wasn't Marvel property.
59:32 --> 59:34 [SPEAKER_02]: 4.5 Halepassers
59:35 --> 59:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Noah's arcs and architectural ringmasters out of five.
59:39 --> 59:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Peace and take care, coffee and vodka.
59:41 --> 59:46 [SPEAKER_02]: PS never mind, just remembered that Earl was around post-hals icing.
59:46 --> 59:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Really have to work on that whole object permanent thing.
59:50 --> 59:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Still quite the traumatic puppet performance.
59:53 --> 59:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Great stuff.
59:54 --> 59:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, Coffin vodka.
59:55 --> 01:00:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, he was, he was safe anyway by the end of this episode Back with the stewards and so that he could munch on passes by as he goes into the dining room.
01:00:06 --> 01:00:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and chronologically I think we saw John Stuart saw Earl after how was dead.
01:00:13 --> 01:00:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he did.
01:00:14 --> 01:00:17 [SPEAKER_01]: So he took him back and then took him back to his focus.
01:00:17 --> 01:00:19 [SPEAKER_01]: So now we know how he was taking care of at the end.
01:00:19 --> 01:00:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I did see someone this morning after watching the finale episode going right now.
01:00:24 --> 01:00:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Who's going to read at the whole season into the chronological order from the first moment to the last moment in 2026 because they kept him get their head around all of the movements back and forth from two to three times.
01:00:36 --> 01:00:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Some people are very good at that, I didn't add something to the show, I loved that the mystery was there throughout.
01:00:42 --> 01:00:46 [SPEAKER_01]: If we'd seen that moment with how I got killed in the first episode, well there's no mystery there.
01:00:46 --> 01:00:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
01:00:47 --> 01:00:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a fun.
01:00:49 --> 01:00:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Great stuff for the tanks so much coffee vodka.
01:00:50 --> 01:00:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks so much for your thoughts throughout the season so far and make sure if you want to get your thoughts in for the wrap-up send them into the show.
01:00:57 --> 01:01:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, certainly you'll have had a few more days to bake those in as well.
01:01:01 --> 01:01:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
01:01:01 --> 01:01:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Excellent stuff.
01:01:02 --> 01:01:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, coffee and vodka, for your feedback as always.
01:01:07 --> 01:01:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Over on Facebook, we also got some feedback from Angie.
01:01:10 --> 01:01:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Our host says, this series had was some fantastic television.
01:01:15 --> 01:01:23 [SPEAKER_02]: I really enjoyed the true detective style of the show, where the murder mystery was intertwined with larger events and some of the characters backstories.
01:01:24 --> 01:01:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Cudos as well to those involved and to the actors who gave really great performances.
01:01:29 --> 01:01:35 [SPEAKER_02]: I honestly had little interest in the Greenlands and character prior to this and almost didn't watch it.
01:01:35 --> 01:01:36 [SPEAKER_02]: So glad I did.
01:01:36 --> 01:01:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks again for another great podcast.
01:01:40 --> 01:01:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks Angie.
01:01:41 --> 01:01:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for joining us for this podcast and it's great that you did watch it.
01:01:46 --> 01:01:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look.
01:01:47 --> 01:01:48 [SPEAKER_02]: bit like yourself.
01:01:48 --> 01:01:52 [SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't say I was massively interested.
01:01:52 --> 01:01:55 [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't quite know how this was going to go.
01:01:55 --> 01:01:57 [SPEAKER_02]: What it was going to be like.
01:01:57 --> 01:01:59 [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm very pleased that I did.
01:01:59 --> 01:02:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought really like yourself.
01:02:02 --> 01:02:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Some great performances, great acting, great writing.
01:02:06 --> 01:02:09 [SPEAKER_02]: And I've just loved the whole mystery style of it as well.
01:02:10 --> 01:02:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm hoping that that surprise will continue into vision
01:02:14 --> 01:02:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's up, so yeah, I wasn't really sold and doing lanterns until I heard the people behind it and seeing Chris Monday, who did Ozark, which we absolutely loved and did some true detective as well, which we really enjoyed.
01:02:26 --> 01:02:32 [SPEAKER_01]: It's great to see his fingerprints all over this time, and then love course from Watchman who really enjoyed as well.
01:02:33 --> 01:02:41 [SPEAKER_01]: So it's great to see those people behind it, and then the people in front of the screen as well, Aaron Pierre saying that if the 17 seasons of the show he will be here,
01:02:41 --> 01:02:49 [SPEAKER_01]: into how you'll be here, turning up every week at the film episodes of Lountry, and so another great member of the DC Universe as well.
01:02:50 --> 01:02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, very excited, very happy to see what they delivered with the show.
01:02:53 --> 01:02:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks so much, Angie, for your feedback.
01:02:55 --> 01:02:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, thanks, Angie.
01:02:57 --> 01:03:06 [SPEAKER_01]: And our last piece of feedback for this episode comes in from Paul Lee, over on Discord he said, this was possibly the most intense season ender for a superhero show without a physical fight at the end.
01:03:07 --> 01:03:18 [SPEAKER_01]: As the official podcast with the three main executives of the show talked about, the season was about whether or not we can overcome our programming training, slash indoctrination, and also commentary on why space cups have the same problems as dirt cups.
01:03:18 --> 01:03:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And something from the episode 7 behind the scenes short, Daniel Lindloff explicitly stated that Zoe was on Anton's planet because there was some planetary war with lots of genocide happening.
01:03:28 --> 01:03:30 [SPEAKER_01]: So his solution was to kill all of them.
01:03:30 --> 01:03:35 [SPEAKER_01]: This was presumably after the Guardians disabled all the other manhunters, but it could also have been the final straw.
01:03:36 --> 01:03:43 [SPEAKER_01]: My question from all the way back to episode 4 is, what part of the manhunter programming justified a total genocide for a planet undergoing?
01:03:44 --> 01:03:45 [SPEAKER_01]: local genocide.
01:03:45 --> 01:03:55 [SPEAKER_01]: The fact that Lindloff brought it up suggests that this was discussed in the writers room and future potential seasons could hone in on Noah trying to understand, or deal with his programming.
01:03:56 --> 01:04:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Also, love the new oath that taken only two of the seasons main characters off the board, leaving Snester and Noah on the board for future shenanigans, and did you clock the house backpack and presumably the other end of the Einstein Rosenbridge are back in the
01:04:13 --> 01:04:14 [SPEAKER_01]: That's indeed.
01:04:14 --> 01:04:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Very good Paul.
01:04:15 --> 01:04:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:04:15 --> 01:04:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks Paul.
01:04:17 --> 01:04:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:04:17 --> 01:04:17 [SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
01:04:18 --> 01:04:22 [SPEAKER_02]: The old portal there is back in the fortress of storage.
01:04:22 --> 01:04:27 [SPEAKER_02]: As I hope we get that outing again with the fortress of storage.
01:04:27 --> 01:04:29 [SPEAKER_02]: That's a great concept.
01:04:30 --> 01:04:32 [SPEAKER_02]: In terms of...
01:04:33 --> 01:04:34 [SPEAKER_02]: the genocide thing.
01:04:34 --> 01:04:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, that's really interesting.
01:04:36 --> 01:04:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a hearing, uh, sort of, dammit, dammit, and then laugh, uh, talk, uh, around, sort of the context of Zoe and Atan, uh, because, yeah, I mean, that's not something, it's in a sense, only something that
01:04:51 --> 01:05:02 [SPEAKER_02]: was briefly mentioned to the audience, but which John Stuart saw all the way through this, this, I know, genocide and planetary war.
01:05:02 --> 01:05:04 [SPEAKER_02]: So really interesting.
01:05:06 --> 01:05:13 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess the programming from Manhunter, yeah, I'm not entirely sure, and maybe what that is.
01:05:13 --> 01:05:28 [SPEAKER_02]: But possibly, just simply, the Manhunter was no longer able to fulfill sort of dominant power on that planet, because maybe the local genocide that was happening between the different factions,
01:05:29 --> 01:05:33 [SPEAKER_02]: was too ingrained, too embedded, or part of their culture.
01:05:33 --> 01:05:38 [SPEAKER_02]: It was always like that, and so that was the root that Zoe took.
01:05:38 --> 01:05:51 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I think the fact that, you know, they were talking about the episode specifically, but also the season, talking about overcoming programming and training and doctrine, and then...
01:05:53 --> 01:06:06 [SPEAKER_02]: equally, Antan's planet wasn't able to overcome them and that's how it was left, maybe Zoe Sorris is a weakness or something like that.
01:06:07 --> 01:06:12 [SPEAKER_02]: But all that is just part of their program, programming is to kill and gain power.
01:06:12 --> 01:06:17 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think to the point that you're making their poll, that
01:06:18 --> 01:06:23 [SPEAKER_01]: had chosen to do a planetary-wide genocide and the Guardians went to Agnes.
01:06:23 --> 01:06:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't leave all of these mountain hunters, I should the galaxy and the universe on their own.
01:06:28 --> 01:06:29 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have to slaughter them all.
01:06:29 --> 01:06:31 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have to kill all of the mountain hunters.
01:06:31 --> 01:06:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
01:06:34 --> 01:06:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Shans are doing the genocide, made the Guardians go, ooh.
01:06:38 --> 01:06:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we've chosen the wrong species or wrong creatures to go ahead and do this.
01:06:42 --> 01:06:48 [SPEAKER_01]: We need to create the lanterns to have some decision-making here, decision-making that isn't genocide of an entire plant.
01:06:49 --> 01:06:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
01:06:49 --> 01:06:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
01:06:49 --> 01:06:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Good stuff.
01:06:50 --> 01:06:56 [SPEAKER_01]: But again, there's loads of stuff that we can find out about this over over 70 years of history with the Green Lanterns.
01:06:56 --> 01:07:01 [SPEAKER_01]: And this is just a story coupled together from, from loads of those bits and pieces.
01:07:02 --> 01:07:04 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, we really intrigued to see
01:07:07 --> 01:07:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, definitely.
01:07:08 --> 01:07:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Great stuff.
01:07:09 --> 01:07:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks Paul.
01:07:11 --> 01:07:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
01:07:11 --> 01:07:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks Paul.
01:07:11 --> 01:07:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And thanks everybody for your feedback.
