[00:00:00] Welcome to our 2021 recap and 2022 preview podcast from TV Podcast Industries.
[00:00:22] Welcome back fellow industrialists, we are going through everything that we've covered in 2021
[00:00:28] and talking about what's coming up in 2022 on TV podcast industries. This is our fourth annual
[00:00:35] version of this as far as I remember. This is the fourth time we've done our kind of recap
[00:00:38] and look forward for the rest of the year. So I'm glad you're joining us for this. I'm one
[00:00:43] of your hosts, Derek. Hello there fellow industrialists and of course a special mention to our fellow
[00:00:49] wheelies as we will be covering the Wheel of Time Tavern quiz in this and the winner
[00:00:57] of that pub quiz as well. Yes, welcome to the podcast. I am one of your hosts, John.
[00:01:04] How do you do fellow kids? I'm Chris. I'm trying to be cool and down with it as we go
[00:01:09] into 2022. Fellow kids, I thought you were going to go for fellow defenders Chris at least. Yes.
[00:01:15] No, but I'm hip, you know, I'm with it in it in a broth. Well, I really don't. I can't even come off
[00:01:23] with a cool London accent and get away with it. I was wondering what country that came from.
[00:01:32] But yes, welcome back. We will be talking about all of the shows that we covered this year
[00:01:35] in 2021 and the shows that we're going to be covering hopefully in 2022. Lots and lots of new TV coming
[00:01:40] up this year that hopefully we're going to be able to squeeze in and cover off this year. But
[00:01:46] this will be, let's say spoiler filled-ish. We're not probably going to spoil any major
[00:01:52] movements within shows that we've discussed, but we're going to talk about what we liked
[00:01:56] and didn't like overall about the shows that we talked about so far. But if you haven't
[00:02:01] watched some of the shows and want to remain spoiler free, you may want to skip through some
[00:02:05] of the sections that we're talking about, some of the shows that we've discussed.
[00:02:08] But we do hope that you subscribe to our podcast on TV podcast industries. You can get that by going
[00:02:13] to tvpodcastindustries.com. There's loads of ways to subscribe on there. We'd also love if you
[00:02:19] joined us over in our Facebook group at facebook.com slash groups slash TV podcast industries.
[00:02:23] You can follow us on Twitter as well at TV pod industries. But we do want to hear your
[00:02:27] thoughts about any of the shows that we're covering. You can email us with any of those
[00:02:31] thoughts to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com. Let's get into talking about all the shows we
[00:02:36] covered in 2021. We did 101 podcasts last year throughout the full year just for comparison
[00:02:44] for some of our listeners. We did 81 podcasts in 2020 and 82 podcasts in 2019. So we've done
[00:02:51] another 20 podcasts on top of that. Wow. And boy is my mouth sore.
[00:02:57] Yeah, that's a couple of Disney plus TV shows really though with that extra 20.
[00:03:04] Well absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Probably exactly what it is. I've kind of categorized everything
[00:03:09] that we've covered last year into all those types of things we've covered. Which includes
[00:03:15] all the Marvel live action shows that we covered last year, all the animation
[00:03:19] shows that we covered last year, all the movies that we've covered and then any
[00:03:22] other live action shows that we covered last year. Yes, John in the background is
[00:03:25] calling me a geek inert for all of this. But it's the only way to talk about them really,
[00:03:30] to categorize them all together and give everybody a little bit of time. Well, we
[00:03:34] started off with the animated shows we covered last year. For the first time on tv podcast
[00:03:38] industries, we did cover some animated shows. And which color code is that one? Well,
[00:03:43] that's color coded to show you who the winner is of our polls done. Which are
[00:03:48] excellent. Our wonderful listeners can't see the color coding. So that doesn't help them at
[00:03:52] all. And what does the shading mean on this very complicated table? The shading is the
[00:04:03] categorization of the shows. I just mentioned the brackets a second ago if you were paying
[00:04:06] attention to the voice rather than the document. Now I understand the table. Anyway,
[00:04:11] let's start out with the animated shows. As I mentioned, we hadn't covered any animated
[00:04:15] shows on tv podcast industries before last year. We've covered some animated movies.
[00:04:19] We covered into the spider verse, I think was one of the big animated movies that we
[00:04:22] covered in the past. But last year, we covered three animated shows all in different universes,
[00:04:28] which is really interesting. We had Invincible, which is Robert Kirkman's ultra violent
[00:04:33] show on Amazon Prime, Prime Video. First season of that show also already green lit
[00:04:39] for two more seasons. We also covered Marvel Squad If, which was effectively we now know
[00:04:46] is part of the MCU but was done as an animated show. And we covered the first season of Star
[00:04:50] Wars, The Bad Batch, which was a kind of sequel to the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoons. So all
[00:04:57] various big fan bases and all various different shows in different universes. What did you guys
[00:05:03] like about those shows? Or why do you think we covered them? John, what did you think about
[00:05:07] the shows? Well, like I loved Invincible. I know I didn't do the podcast, but I really
[00:05:13] enjoyed the series. I haven't read the comics either, so I really enjoyed just getting into
[00:05:21] Invincible and the story that was done and you know, ultra violence and certainly in animated
[00:05:29] form I think is always pretty good. But for me, I think I really enjoyed What If. That was a
[00:05:39] surprise for me. I just really wasn't expecting too much from it. And now we see that it is
[00:05:46] potentially linked very closely with the MCU, certainly with the Strange Supreme character
[00:05:54] and from the series. So really, really enjoyed that. I love that episode. Yes, very dark,
[00:06:03] a little sort of hopeless, I guess, but I really enjoyed what they did with the Doctor Strange
[00:06:09] and for me then Bad Batch, I really love Star Wars. I've loved their animated shows from Clone Wars,
[00:06:18] the original Clone Wars, I guess the more recent version and you know,
[00:06:26] leading here with the Bad Batch as well just really, really enjoyed it. And it was just good
[00:06:34] you know, we've got a good number of people really engaged in all three of these animated shows,
[00:06:41] which is really good because it is kind of the first time we've done anything sizable on animation.
[00:06:48] So really, I really enjoyed all three. I mean, I enjoyed most of what we did here. If I was
[00:06:55] to pick one for me, I think it would be What If? I really liked how that played out. And it was good
[00:07:04] having the little link in with Podcastica as well for one of the episodes. Absolutely,
[00:07:09] Jason Kobassie from Podcastica joining us for one of the episodes. That was kind of fun
[00:07:13] having a fourth host for an episode that I didn't enjoy. So have a little extra balance
[00:07:20] on that one. How about yourself, Chris? What was your thought on the animated shows for
[00:07:23] this year? It was good. I always had some worries about us covering animated shows just based on the
[00:07:32] level of detail that you can get into. In sometimes a more younger skewing kind of animation typically
[00:07:41] out of anime kind of thing, can skew more younger so more simple kind of story lines,
[00:07:48] things like that. Typically, I know it jumps into the comments. I was totally going to jump in with
[00:07:54] then invincible punch you in the face. Exactly. Invincible for me was probably my favorite just
[00:08:01] because I have been a Kirkman fan for years and invincible fan for years. Actually finished my
[00:08:09] while we were going through the show. And then when the show finished, I continued on
[00:08:15] my reread of the Invincible series beginning to end. And it's that it's something and this is
[00:08:23] actually a consistent thing for me this year with a lot of our shows is stuff that I've read
[00:08:31] the original if you want to call it that and the a lot of these are adaptations. So why this
[00:08:38] invincible and so on so on. So seeing the differences and the changes that made
[00:08:46] kept things very fresh for me. I really enjoyed what if especially how much we know it is linked
[00:08:53] in to the MC as a whole. And I was surprisingly I was hesitant going into the bad batch having
[00:09:03] not watched Clone Wars have not kind of big Star Wars fan just not gone into that side of the
[00:09:09] house the rebels the the Clone Wars or the animated. So I was hesitant going in but
[00:09:17] seeing the detail that they have put in and some of the things that kind of
[00:09:23] and we made the joke in for lonely we trust. And it's true because there was things in
[00:09:29] there like we were seeing that the like something that only we would kind of find cool about how the
[00:09:36] I think it was how they moved over from the Republic credits to the Imperial credit system
[00:09:43] and the exchanges that they had and we were like wow that's a deep deep cut like that's
[00:09:49] something only so like some we would care about but it's seeing that there. So
[00:09:54] overall very happy we dipped our toe into it. Yeah. Interested to see where it goes in 2022
[00:10:02] knowing that we may only have potentially one or two additional animated pieces coming in 2022.
[00:10:09] Yeah that is the interesting thing isn't it because Invincible has been confirmed for
[00:10:13] two more seasons but animation does take a bit of time so it's likely we're not going to get
[00:10:17] a season two of Invincible within 2022 and then the bad batch also confirmed for a second
[00:10:22] season. I believe that that was confirmed way before but was only released to the public after
[00:10:27] after the show came out because it's a follow on from a really popular show I think they knew
[00:10:32] the property they had. So we may get a bad batch season two within within this year
[00:10:39] as opposed to Invincible but it is really interesting to do a good amount of shows
[00:10:42] was kind of kind of odd I'm a massive walking dead fan so I love Robert Kirkman I've read
[00:10:46] the first volume of Invincible so when Chris came up with the idea of doing the Invincible
[00:10:51] show I was kind of gone we don't really do animation and it's a lot of work there's a
[00:10:55] lot of shows going on at the same time but I'm so glad we did it because it is a really good show
[00:10:59] and a really good companion piece to our boys podcast in a year where we didn't have the boys
[00:11:04] TV it was nice to cover something as adult and violent even in an animated form. So we kind
[00:11:10] of keeping that keeping that mindset for the year that was pretty cool and then the bad batch
[00:11:14] myself and John had finished watching the entirety of the Clone Wars so it was only natural
[00:11:19] that we wanted to cover bad batch as a follow-up and I'm so glad it did tie in so well it brought
[00:11:23] in loads of characters from the years of watching the Clone Wars it felt like it was really well
[00:11:28] tied into that so that was kind of cool. Well and a few others as well. Yeah I was going to say
[00:11:31] we're not covering the live action Star Wars shows at the moment but Boba Fess is back
[00:11:36] at the moment in Fennec Shand is the secondary character in that show she's one of the
[00:11:40] main characters in that show and she had quite a good arc in the Bad Batch animated series so
[00:11:45] it was nice to have that tie in for a show that we're all really enjoying at the moment as well.
[00:11:50] Yeah no very much so and I know Soka started in the animated moved her way into the Mandalorian
[00:11:55] it now has her own show in the works. Coming in the future exactly. Coming in the future
[00:12:01] and on what if we know it has been a green list for season two. That's right. And apparently
[00:12:08] they're deep in the works we know that one episode from season one is now going to be in season
[00:12:13] two. Yeah the Gamora episode. So it is questionable when we get that it depends on how I would like
[00:12:24] to say this year coming in 2022 but it's a tough one. It really depends on how far they were
[00:12:31] in production. Yeah it's an interesting one we've been saying all the way throughout the season
[00:12:34] how disconnected each of the shows were and then they were all wrapped up into one overarching
[00:12:39] storyline they may wait for another position in the MCU to do that again where it makes
[00:12:43] sense so they may wait for a year gap and then come back with what if season two we just really
[00:12:47] don't know how Disney plus are going to be doing their shows in the future it's really
[00:12:52] hard to kind of guess how they're doing stuff and with their live action stuff
[00:12:57] it's kind of difficult to know when they're going to be filming this stuff to be coming back
[00:13:00] out in future. Speaking of which let's talk about the MCU live action shows we covered
[00:13:04] for last year because there were four major shows outside of what if and I would categorize
[00:13:08] what if as one of the MCU shows for last year but outside of that there were four big live
[00:13:13] action shows we started the year with Wandavision led into Falcon the Winter Soldier which became
[00:13:18] Captain America the Winter Soldier as we all know. At the end of that series we had Loki which is
[00:13:23] the only show to get a second season announced at the end of it left us on a big cliff
[00:13:27] hanger to move into a second season and then we've just finished Hawkeye at the end of the
[00:13:32] year closed out going from one holiday to another holiday starting on Thanksgiving and
[00:13:37] ending on Christmas week so some interesting shows this year all different I would say.
[00:13:44] Oh so definitely what do you think that definitely I mean I know when you put up the
[00:13:50] polls for me it was Wandavision and I really enjoyed this I think this from a TV point of
[00:13:58] view really just was very different I mean you know characters that we know the characters
[00:14:06] that we love introduce new characters certainly firmly in the MCU but I love the the changing
[00:14:14] up of the TV shows it was something different it it honored those types of TV shows but brought it
[00:14:21] into tell a story in a really fantastic way some great music coming out of this and of course
[00:14:30] leading into Multiverse of Madness at least and we already have the reference from the trailer
[00:14:37] for Multiverse of Madness having Westview in there and so I just really enjoyed this approach to
[00:14:46] the MCU live action on Disney plus I thought it was really bold and really different and I
[00:14:55] really really enjoyed it and I'm excited for Loki season two as well again that just
[00:15:05] really was in my wheelhouse I loved all the loci's and in particular Richard E. Grant
[00:15:12] and the classic Loki outfit I loved introducing the timeline branching and that element and
[00:15:20] certainly with and he will not be named or Kang as if we can call him that and he's a different
[00:15:28] version of was just having and his introduction was just superb yeah Hawkeye I really enjoyed
[00:15:38] getting into the festive spirit and much more lighter for me and but just that nice lightness
[00:15:45] of touch for the Christmas period and I think with Falcon and the Winter Soldier I think you know
[00:15:52] that was again also a bit of a gamble with the MCU really most explicitly covering those
[00:16:00] scenes around Black Lives Matter and that element of this transition for the Falcon
[00:16:09] to become Captain America and what that means I really enjoyed this though because
[00:16:18] yes I love magic I love the space side of Marvel and I also like the that kind of
[00:16:24] espionage shield I like that side of it as well and this very firmly roots or at least keeps
[00:16:32] that element of the MCU at least from what we got in that show within the this next phase
[00:16:42] yes it may involve and the the scrolls possibly but I do like that they're keeping
[00:16:48] something that is more earthbound as well because we are certainly moving away from
[00:16:56] planet earth quite a bit with some of the MCU properties which I love don't get me wrong
[00:17:02] but I also like it being grounded with these characters like the Winter Soldier like Falcon or
[00:17:09] Captain America or with Sharon Carter and all these different sides of things
[00:17:16] and but they could transition into sword in I guess they might be shield in space
[00:17:22] don't forget about about dancing Baron Zima this year as well
[00:17:26] well yeah well actually that was the great thing because for me he was probably my favorite
[00:17:33] bad guy ultimately from the those first 10 movies of the MCU I really enjoyed his story and having
[00:17:43] him involved in this series was just quality for me absolutely what did you think of the
[00:17:51] state of TV MCU this year Chris loved it it's the MCU I unapologetically love how they are doing this
[00:18:03] we've said for a long time a lot of these shows a lot of these characters deserve their own show
[00:18:09] and we got taste of that with say cloak and dagger more importantly shield agents of shield
[00:18:16] seven seasons of the potential of doing that and what could go into it and then not even touching
[00:18:23] the Netflix stuff yeah so seeing Hawkeye okay it is fan service but it's not fan service in that
[00:18:30] they are it's fan service in some of the the the mentions and the topics and the
[00:18:36] Easter eggs and things like that yeah but the themes being discussed are like transcend
[00:18:42] comic book movies or TV shows yeah I think that super aspect yeah I think you're right but certainly
[00:18:49] with Wanda vision and soldier those those two shows dealt with quite serious themes Loki
[00:18:56] not as not as serious it's setting up a second season as well so it probably didn't have to do
[00:19:00] as in-depth the storyline as we saw on the other two shows and Hawkeye felt a lot lighter
[00:19:05] but did have some great some great moments in it and really enjoyable moments in it overall
[00:19:10] do you have a favorite of the four that released after Chris
[00:19:13] difficult doesn't it it really is I loved Hawk my recency bias says Hawkeye right because it was so
[00:19:22] in a difficult year it was and a difficult ending of the year it was fun lighthearted easy to watch
[00:19:31] the truth gone to my head it's probably one division just based on
[00:19:40] the actual themes discussed and the topics and just some of the the end kind of last two episodes
[00:19:51] and I still remember Agatha just cotton hon knocking it out of the park in terms of so many aspects
[00:20:05] but yeah for me I think it is Wanda vision just when you go beat for beat kind of a comparison
[00:20:11] but again their apples aren't just bananas and kiwis they're very different animals yeah
[00:20:17] just great that we've had that many great episodes of the MCU I think I think the only thing I'd
[00:20:21] probably say is that that they're still finding their feet sometimes you know it was I was interested
[00:20:25] to see some of the critical reviews towards the end of the year where a lot of them were wondering how
[00:20:31] these worked as TV shows whether they worked well as TV shows yes they wear TV shows there
[00:20:36] were episodes released every single week but I'm not sure whether Marvel has got that balance
[00:20:39] yes on their on their TV because I was laughing everybody wants to get more of these characters
[00:20:45] and they're given more of the characters and the response was you could have done that in a movie
[00:20:49] why did you do this six episodes isn't about it but I think it allows you to spend more time with
[00:20:54] the characters that's why we cover so much TV on TV podcast industries we enjoy spending time and
[00:20:58] having stories about characters but they are crafting them into six episodes that can be watched
[00:21:04] back to back very often and we'll see I think that that's something that will develop in the
[00:21:09] future but I think I don't have any criticism overall of the MCU on TV this year it's been
[00:21:14] really good and nice to have those shackles off a bit which have been on when they were doing 22
[00:21:20] episode 22 episodes shows of TV when they were doing ABC shows like it was a shield where you can't
[00:21:27] overtly reference the MCU because you're doing so much content every single week that you may step
[00:21:33] on the toes of story that they want to tell in the future so nice to have those shackles off
[00:21:37] same with the Marvel Netflix shows and Cloak and Dagger all of those shows are hampered a
[00:21:42] little bit by not being able to step into the MCU whereas now it's interesting to see what they're
[00:21:48] doing with it as a company it's weird isn't it that we say they're not able to step into the MCU
[00:21:54] and that's the reason exactly what happened to it is it and because I find that intuitively
[00:22:00] speaking pretty bonkers to say that quite frankly okay but um you know that let's hope it's not
[00:22:09] this monolith of just the MCU's way of the universe it just can't be that so if that to me
[00:22:18] ultimately feels restrictive okay I got even though they're expanding it out it seems a bit ironic but
[00:22:25] it's it's like we we've said with a number of other shows here like for example The Wheel of Time
[00:22:30] which in and of itself have monolithic 15 books where you know are we going to go line by line
[00:22:36] or word by word as to what happens and in the end even the MCU is adapting comics it's a different
[00:22:45] medium and it's a even with TV as opposed to movies you know this is the different mediums they
[00:22:53] lend themselves to different ways of storytelling depending on how they're presented certainly
[00:22:59] with TV because you can chuck it all in at once as we've said or you can release it weekly or
[00:23:06] you could be on cable or you're having to deal with adverts and it all lends itself to
[00:23:12] very different ways of how you would construct and structure that that that program and how that comes
[00:23:19] across and even how that's received to some extent so but I think they've done a great job
[00:23:26] with the MCU live action I've really enjoyed the fall that we've covered yeah I think the
[00:23:31] only the only other thing that's been opened as a discussion this year by having these MCU live
[00:23:36] action is what's canon and what's not in this Marvel universe that's been created for the last 10 years
[00:23:42] and none more so than Hawkeye we'll talk about it here I'm sure you've all watched Hawkeye are
[00:23:46] wonderful fellow defenders so you know Kingpin appeared in there so not spoiling anything but
[00:23:52] how interesting is it that we have a character from the Netflix universe appearing
[00:23:56] in the shows Vincent and Offrey are very clear about the fact that this is his character
[00:24:00] he was snapped away for five years and now he wants to take his city back that's what his line
[00:24:03] was about so he's very clear that he's been told it's his character from the Netflix shows
[00:24:08] appearing in the MCU but it sparked all these discussions about whether the Netflix shows are
[00:24:14] canon anymore I think this is a really interesting idea that that fans of these of these universes
[00:24:21] have exactly to your point John it's not just one monolithic universe these are stories
[00:24:24] that are told with the characters all approved by Marvel when they came out so
[00:24:29] what is that what is that canon in your mind nobody's ever said it's not canon at all but as we've
[00:24:34] mentioned a couple of times and on the podcast Kevin Feige he's not going to send an eight-year-old
[00:24:38] to go and watch the Daredevil TV show so they can enjoy watching pizza dog on Hawkeye he's going
[00:24:44] to incorporate pieces of those characters into the show and you may never need to talk about
[00:24:48] the stories that they and experiences and things that went on in the Daredevil shows all
[00:24:52] the all those shows on Netflix were quite small in the universe none of them were talking about
[00:24:57] massive world-changing events that was the point of them so you may never need to talk about those
[00:25:01] shows again but it doesn't make them not canon yeah well except the one with the dragon and you
[00:25:07] know that defenders that ended off basically being a building in New York though it wasn't a
[00:25:12] world-changing event but there was the nine cities there was reference to that other world
[00:25:18] so I think I just think even though Kevin Feige might not want a nine-year-old to go and
[00:25:26] watch them more than likely if they're like me as a kid they will go and watch them so
[00:25:33] that's great and if they maybe have seen something that they shouldn't have done too early well then
[00:25:39] I guess I'll have to process what I mean by that is Kevin Feige is not going to come out and say
[00:25:43] these are no longer canon he's also not going to encourage an eight-year-old to say that you
[00:25:47] must watch those shows in order to watch this fluffy uh Christmas set show that happens to have
[00:25:53] a cute dog in it you must go and watch that three season show that's aimed at over 18s and adults
[00:26:00] um I don't think Kevin Feige would ever be coming out to say that so um so I don't think his silence
[00:26:04] on the topic as to whether it's canon or not says that it's not oh I agree it agrees I agree
[00:26:09] I very much think throughout this year we'll be playing the is it canon game well I don't want
[00:26:14] to play the is it canon yeah so but I think it's all canon but they are going to cherry pick
[00:26:23] what part of all is they think so in that sake I hate to say it
[00:26:31] agency shield is canon but mockingbird is not canon kingpin and other aspects could be canon
[00:26:41] but maybe uh Karen Page is not canon I'm not saying that that uh Devran Wall is not canon
[00:26:48] shouldn't be canon I'm just saying they will cherry pick I think what works for future MCU aspects and it
[00:26:55] will be then over the next five years they'll we will then get a greater picture of what of that
[00:27:04] those shows and those series are full canon and what are being kind of just let go because I don't
[00:27:12] think well the the only other aspect the only way they could do it is to do what Star Wars did
[00:27:17] which was everything became legends all the books and the things the past became legends
[00:27:26] unless it was these films and or these tv shows or basically everything else so the
[00:27:34] thron stuff originally the thron stuff the shadow of the empire all that became legends or
[00:27:41] basic stories yeah you say that's the only way they could do it but they could also do it
[00:27:45] the Marvel comics way which is every single comic that's ever been published by Marvel is canon
[00:27:50] and they've changed stories to adjust people's uh back backgrounds and when they when people get
[00:27:58] reborn or come back for the dead they change they do another story but every comic is basically
[00:28:02] canon nothing's been thrown out there that's the Marvel way so I'd suggest they're just going
[00:28:06] to ignore storylines where they don't want to drive people to go and find the episodes
[00:28:12] because they're not they're not going to incorporate those stories anymore in future but
[00:28:16] we've also created the multiverse this year so um so they can simply say that took place in another
[00:28:21] pocket of the universe if they want to and if they want to make any reference to it at all but
[00:28:25] it's it sparks some interest in discussion this year though yeah very much so but we also we
[00:28:31] didn't just cover tv shows from a Marvel perspective from an MCU perspective this year
[00:28:36] we had four additional films as well uh which has been fantastic we had and I'm gonna go my no
[00:28:44] personal order Spider-Man No way home Sanji Eternals on Black Widow um nothing that's my personal
[00:28:54] order but that's probably my top four it also has been sorted by the votes that we've received
[00:28:58] in from uh from our wonderful fellow developers and uh listeners so uh so that is the priority
[00:29:04] yeah it also goes by order too yeah Spider-Man No Way Home is the most recently released film and we
[00:29:10] kind of said it but it does feel um I can't remember whether we said it on our podcast about it but it
[00:29:14] does feel like it's the level of Avengers the excitement for us and having so many major
[00:29:19] characters all appearing in one movie at the same time so it's almost unfair to compare
[00:29:24] Spider-Man No Way Home against any of the MCU movies released this year it's almost a different
[00:29:29] type of film than we saw this year it's the first film in a long time since the big pandemic started
[00:29:35] to reach one billion in the box office oh yeah like and that's like years it's Sony's most popular
[00:29:43] and the highest grossing film of all time it is now it's brought back that Avengers
[00:29:51] end game and Infinity War level of kind of box office discussions and yeah wins
[00:30:00] and the rest didn't and now I'm even saying like Shang-Chi for me and Spider-Man will always win but if
[00:30:07] Shang-Chi was a close second in this one because of just how I was it came out of left of field
[00:30:19] I was not expecting the feels I was not expecting the action I was not expecting
[00:30:24] that just the level of detail and just it blew me away on all accounts yeah yeah and I like so like
[00:30:34] that should in a non-pandemic world that could have easily been another billion dollar film
[00:30:40] if it was as open and everything was the world was as open as when Spider-Man was kind of released
[00:30:48] yeah we even said ourselves is 25 MCU movies now 27 MCU movies and I think Shang-Chi was the 25th
[00:30:54] MCU movie and we've seen every single one of them opening night in the theater
[00:31:00] Shang-Chi unfortunately we couldn't get to the theater to see and it wasn't available
[00:31:03] on the home box office so it took us a few weeks to get to see it which is really unusual
[00:31:07] for us and we podcast about it so I'm sure there's a hell of a lot of Marvel fans that don't go out
[00:31:12] week one to go and watch these movies so I would say Shang-Chi had one of the biggest potential
[00:31:16] box offices of the year that unfortunately the pandemic did hit which is which is a shame but
[00:31:22] the good thing is it was a fantastic movie that people are going to get to experience at home
[00:31:26] and it is now available on Disney plus for anybody to watch now and it is a really exciting
[00:31:30] movie really really good and I'm so excited to see where those characters go in the future
[00:31:35] of the MCU because lots and lots of great little indications of where they may go in the future
[00:31:40] as well so that's going to be cool we know Shang-Chi 2 is coming from the same director and writer so
[00:31:46] that's already on the plan for a future movie which is really cool but yeah I know the excitement
[00:31:52] for Spider-Man No Way Home kind of steamroller overall all the other movies from last year
[00:31:57] didn't it? Yeah I mean if I just park Spider-Man No Way Home for a minute then for me
[00:32:03] Shang-Chi is my favorite Marvel movie it felt real world building in fact it felt like a next step
[00:32:11] from what we've gotten in the first three phases and this move I mean read a few Shang-Chi comics so
[00:32:22] and the character wasn't totally unknown but I love this movie and it's really was there for me
[00:32:33] and I think a bit like with the TV shows at the same time I really enjoyed Eternals it was a
[00:32:40] different way of them doing it and I think you know in the same way as when we got Ant-Man
[00:32:45] and it was going down that more comedic route you know and we had Guardians of the Galaxy bringing
[00:32:51] in the space route I think I think the Eternals was also actually really good it was a different
[00:32:58] vibe a different type of cinematic experience for Marvel and Fur Jews to them again Black Widow
[00:33:07] for me I enjoyed that movie it's given us a great character with Florence Pugh as Lena Blover
[00:33:16] and the Black Widow's sister really you know showing up in Hawkeye so just really really
[00:33:23] nice intertwining again I thought it was great to get this backstory even if it should have
[00:33:30] happened five six years sooner it was really good it really connected in to me with Civil War
[00:33:39] and the Winter Soldier type movies that we got here even though maybe the timeline was a little
[00:33:46] bit further along from that but I I love them. Do you guys think it's Black Widow is even
[00:33:52] better now after Hawkeye and seeing Yelena Blova in that show what do you think?
[00:34:00] I don't know whether it's changed I don't think it's necessarily changed my view of the movie
[00:34:08] I'm just really pleased that they've taken that awesome character from the movie and put it into
[00:34:16] the the TV world. It was nice to have it that close together as well wasn't it the appearances
[00:34:20] of both yeah definitely because I know that was my criticism you said that as well like
[00:34:25] I love Black Widow as a character I love what they did in the story but it's
[00:34:28] seven years too late it should have been done when the original negotiations were happening
[00:34:32] with Scarlett Johansson and that's where I'll probably watch that movie is what I said at the
[00:34:35] time when it came out is when I'm rewatching I'll kind of go right here's Civil War before we get
[00:34:40] into Infinity War I'll slot in Black Widow there because it makes lots of sense now
[00:34:45] at the end of the year after seeing Hawkeye with Yelena Blova in there it's nice to kind
[00:34:50] of look back on Black Widow then and go right now we'll see a full movie featuring that
[00:34:54] character so now I don't know exactly where I'm going to fit in whether it will be
[00:34:58] my rewatch of the series or whether it will be my rewatch of the movies.
[00:35:01] Yeah so I mean I really liked it and then if I unpark Spider-Man No Way Home then all I've
[00:35:06] got to say is just it's Spider-Man No Way Home I thought this was just phenomenally like
[00:35:15] it served fans it gave story it gave tears it gave sentimentality nostalgia having the three
[00:35:24] Spider-Men on the screen and I thought they really you know with the amazing Spider-Man
[00:35:31] I have a real soft spot for those movies and for Andrew Garfield and I just thought
[00:35:39] how he just shone in that movie was fantastic it has obviously the Doctor
[00:35:47] which I'm always going to be pleased to see and as well all the old characters Doc Ock
[00:35:54] and The Green Goblin all of those which was just again it just felt really really good
[00:36:02] and it gave a great trilogy for Spider-Man here and for Tom Holland's portrayal of
[00:36:10] Spider-Man as well and I you know fair choose to Tom Holland because he's a big star
[00:36:18] he's got this property of Spider-Man and he's done a phenomenal job with it but also I loved
[00:36:23] how he interacted with Andrew Garfield and Toby McGuire in in this movie it just felt so natural
[00:36:31] and it gave vibes of Miles Morales Spider-Man as well with this multiverse I think they really
[00:36:40] gave this lovely energy to the movie so which I think is something that Sony seems to have pulled
[00:36:51] out the bag here recently with their portrayal of Spider-Man whether that's the influence of
[00:36:57] having Marvel maybe I don't know but I don't think so I think the team that they've collected around
[00:37:05] that are have really they've made it epic and yet he still feels like he defends Queens you know
[00:37:17] and that is the essence of that character and it's great absolutely and I'm not gonna give all
[00:37:23] the praise to Marvel either but there was another Marvel movie released last year from Sony which was
[00:37:28] the Venom sequel it was okay and probably about the same level as the first one that's true no it is
[00:37:35] so I guess that's kind of Sony without Marvel I guess yeah yeah you're probably right it's not
[00:37:41] terrible genuinely I enjoyed the first Venom movie but I kind of the second one was fine
[00:37:46] and a little bit more of the of the same so that's Grant yeah Spider-Man now I'm really excited
[00:37:51] to watch that in the cinema as well that was that was a great experience being able to be there
[00:37:55] when people were getting their first reactions to seeing what was up on screen. Shang-Chi I
[00:38:00] loved it I've watched it a couple of times now since we saw it for the review and it's just
[00:38:05] as good each time it's those characters are great and the actors in those roles are really
[00:38:09] really good looking forward to Eternals it comes out on Disney Plus tomorrow as we record
[00:38:14] the 12th of January so be able to watch that at home and see it again I remember
[00:38:19] walking out of the theater at that one I walk out in the cinema at that one going
[00:38:22] oh it's okay and then over the course of the weekend and then when we recorded our podcast
[00:38:26] liking it more and more and more I thought about it which is something that's unusual for
[00:38:31] for me for Marvel movies I'm usually pretty it pretty clicks with me pretty quickly as
[00:38:38] it's the MCU I love it but I kind of like that they've created something that took me a
[00:38:41] little time to think about and enjoy the new ones so yeah I think that was that was a
[00:38:47] really good a really good year for movies that mentioned Black Widow already as well but
[00:38:50] I think it was a really good year for Marvel movies can especially considering we had an
[00:38:54] entire year without them in 2020 so coming back with all four of those was pretty fun to
[00:38:59] go and watch right yeah no huge for me the only one I think which is potentially
[00:39:06] in not as a huge Neil Gaiman fan the Eternals just I've looked back on it more
[00:39:18] and I'm just I'm not it's not as high so which I was shocked me the more I thought
[00:39:25] of looking back in 2021 I will I would have expected basically to be my number two
[00:39:33] like just based on the property of the characters my love of everything Eternals
[00:39:38] so seeing this where it is and how everything else kind of wrapped out I'm just it's
[00:39:43] I'm going to give it another watch tomorrow and hopefully there's layers and details that I missed
[00:39:50] that will just improve my viewing each time going forward or maybe again it's been a couple
[00:39:55] of months since you saw it so maybe it's just dissipating from your mind and I know when
[00:40:00] I know when you own the stuff at home or when it's available for streaming you kind of throw it on
[00:40:04] more often than not so so you probably get to see it if you get to see it when it comes out in
[00:40:08] Disney plus it might it might spark the memories that you had as well as when we were talking
[00:40:12] about it so yeah you know I said at the time and we all said this is that it's it's not a
[00:40:18] movie for everybody and it's interesting that Marvel would make something like that that
[00:40:22] it's not aimed at a mass audience they pulled it out of multiple countries because some of
[00:40:25] those countries were asking to change elements about the film and Marvel stuck to their guns
[00:40:28] and decided this is the film they want to erase to the world so that told me this is something
[00:40:33] that they did want to present to the world as a movie and they weren't looking for another
[00:40:37] billion dollar blockbuster and they've had a bunch of those and they are now willing to play money
[00:40:42] back into their studio and tell stories that they want to tell so I hope they stick with that as
[00:40:46] their as their future as a company because we know not every single movie coming out of any
[00:40:51] movie studio regardless has has ever done the same massive box box office numbers every single time so
[00:40:59] if they're going to be sustained as a storytelling studio they need to have multiple types of
[00:41:04] storytelling some things for small audiences some things for big audiences so yeah but they'll still
[00:41:09] be able to trade on the Marvel name for a very long time I'm sure I'm sure let's go into our
[00:41:13] final bracket of shows guys the other shows that we covered things don't that don't fit into
[00:41:17] Marvel or into our animation covered four other shows in 2021 we started at the year myself and
[00:41:24] John getting our beaks wet on Marvel let's say with the Marvel 616 documentary a fun series
[00:41:30] documentaries that's some mini episodes talking about those documentaries but understandably it's
[00:41:34] a documentary show on Disney plus so we know a lot of people weren't watching it but I think
[00:41:38] there was some fun things to talk about out there with her yeah I've got a soft spot for
[00:41:43] the Marvel 616 series in the sense that I don't think all of them kind of really grabbed me but there
[00:41:52] were I would say there was good decent three or four of them yeah that did and weirdly the one
[00:42:00] that I was least expecting to sort of grab me where it then they were taking Marvel into schools
[00:42:09] and for theaters I thought it was just lovely and in the end that was just probably my best one from
[00:42:15] there and then it was Japanese Spider-Man and it was also looking at the role of women in
[00:42:23] developing characters for Marvel and bringing in new characters so I really really enjoyed that
[00:42:30] so I have a real soft spot for the Marvel 616 and I think you can pick a mix on that so
[00:42:39] I definitely recommend people to check that out yeah absolutely yeah definitely say go check out
[00:42:45] Marvel 616 it's there are half-hour documentaries I think for the most part or 45 minutes so
[00:42:50] it's definitely worth checking that out we just we did cover three other drama shows
[00:42:55] throughout last year three three quite different shows uh Pennyworth was as a show from the creators
[00:43:01] of Gotham myself and John started out our podcasting career covering Gotham and we've continued to
[00:43:06] follow along with the show and into Pennyworth in season two another crazy show because
[00:43:11] we did expect that though with the creators of Gotham we expected it to go a bit crazier
[00:43:16] and crazier as the shows go on and yeah by the end of it we had a pretty super heroic
[00:43:23] character on board freezing people electrocuting people all around them as the season ended
[00:43:31] really interesting one for Pennyworth it's also on some of the smallest channels in the world so
[00:43:35] its audience is very is very small as we know from our podcast but it's moving to HBO Max this year
[00:43:42] or it's it's it's being released on HBO Max this year the first two seasons I think are
[00:43:46] available by the end of January and so it'll be really interesting to see the reaction is
[00:43:51] of people who haven't been able to watch the show this interesting alternate universe of DC's UK
[00:43:58] yeah I think we were the only podcast covering Pennyworth actually um if my memory serves me right
[00:44:07] so which is just yeah which is mad but it it really made for interesting engagement with
[00:44:13] members of the the cast and certainly yes main mainly because it was on small stations so
[00:44:23] really interesting it's got a season three um in in the bag so it just I mean it's mad to think
[00:44:30] that Pennyworth got season three for me yet why the last one didn't get a season two for example
[00:44:36] it's a real strange way how the tv or the decision making gods just do things and but nonetheless that
[00:44:46] is the case and I mean why the last man really really enjoyed uh as well I thought that just
[00:44:53] was like a fine wine getting finer and finer all the way through I love that evolution
[00:45:01] of that show across all the episodes of the first series and I really hope it gets picked up
[00:45:09] and then Wheel of Time was just a lovely epic smorgasbord of fantasy loveliness um you know
[00:45:21] magic dark lords dark ones in fact uh dark spawn dark friends dark chocolate you name it it was
[00:45:32] it was evil on one side heroic on the other slightly dodged with the ice to die you know can
[00:45:39] you can't you trust them like money well spent from amazon prime and from the showrunner but
[00:45:45] really yeah you galloped along with the heroes on on the back of their horses for that one and
[00:45:52] that I really love they just they nailed the the feel and the excitement that fantasy should have
[00:46:00] like you know it reminds you of the the the lord of the rings and the fellowship the way it was
[00:46:07] portrayed by piece of Jackson it has it has it's just a lot it has a lot to do as a series introducing
[00:46:15] a world but it was done really really well and I must say that would be my top pick and I cannot
[00:46:23] wait for season two excellent excellent what about you Chris I know Wheel of Time was your choice
[00:46:29] to add to the schedule for this year because you're a big fan of the books this is one that
[00:46:32] you've been pushing us towards but I know you're also a big fan of why the last man
[00:46:35] the comic books as well so um so that was one I think we were all agreed we were going to be
[00:46:39] covering for the year what did you think of the adaptations of those two for me wheel of time
[00:46:44] was the standard it had way more pitfalls potential pitfalls as an adaptation just in terms of the
[00:46:56] high fantasy elements and that the the a very wordy kind of narrative based let me
[00:47:07] describe the this cloak in the color of white in extreme detail for at least a page
[00:47:15] so the rave jokins did an amazing job adapting that type of kind of novel that being said
[00:47:25] why the last man what we got from that season and the the the ensemble
[00:47:34] they moved it from a kind of three-piece story where Yarrick is the main character in the comic
[00:47:40] books it is his story it is his journey they shifted the the camera back and actually took
[00:47:49] into account a lot more of the wider cast in the comic book and it made its 10 times better as an
[00:47:57] adaptation and like intrigued me to the level of when we heard it wasn't getting a season two
[00:48:05] now it's still pretend there's still potential who knows you may get picked up elsewhere
[00:48:10] but because it has not been officially killed killed killed I really hope it does because
[00:48:18] I want to see where it goes whereas with say Mark Miller's Jupiter ascending a storyline I am in
[00:48:29] love with from a comic book perspective because it is an epic two three graphic novel if you really
[00:48:34] want to go into it now with a fourth it is an amazing storyline that shows adaptation who we
[00:48:44] yeah yeah we dodged a bullet on that yeah we had it in our schedule we did receive the episodes for
[00:48:50] review and after watching four or five of them just couldn't think of enough to talk about
[00:48:54] as a podcast about it and it just it just and that's a choice we always make yeah that's a
[00:48:58] choice we always make and that we say we there's so much negativity out there on the podcast
[00:49:04] and the internet and all that we want to be the ones that dive in and talk the good about
[00:49:10] the show what was and when we all kind of sat down after the first kind of five six and went
[00:49:17] can you and I was like I'm the fire like probably pull in you guys and we're like no
[00:49:24] and then I was like yeah well that's not then what we do that is not a choice we make and like
[00:49:32] any one of these the wheel of time could have gone down that route
[00:49:35] many of the shows could have gone down there like
[00:49:39] like my god like there is always a chance at MCU show in the future we'll go down that road
[00:49:44] we've had two in the past that have gone down that road so yeah it's a no guarantee of quality
[00:49:51] but yes we would always look at something from the intention of the filmmakers and I think for
[00:49:54] when we watched you were ascending we were trying to work out was the intention just to
[00:49:58] get us to season two because it felt like they held most of the storyline until the last
[00:50:04] episode and then unloaded about half of us and kept us hoping that we're expecting to get us out
[00:50:09] of season two and nobody's guaranteed a season two of any show unless you do a good job of the first
[00:50:14] one so yeah we didn't really want to uh didn't want to watch a show that we had to complain about
[00:50:18] bits of every week so that's not fun for us or the audience but what about you from these
[00:50:23] other shows Derek that these final four I absolutely loved covering wheel of time with
[00:50:27] you guys it was really interesting being the being the person that knew pretty much nothing
[00:50:32] about the show going into the red leads of fantasy novels before and have seen some terrible adaptations
[00:50:38] of fantasy before in shows but wheel of time was just something that just I'd never crossed paths with
[00:50:43] so it was really interesting having Chris who's the the book reader who's read all 15 books and
[00:50:50] John who's read the first two and is on to the third book now and really enjoying the storyline
[00:50:54] was great to have that that was a new podcasting experience for me because I generally would
[00:50:58] overall kind of lead the podcast and put our notes together and stuff like that whereas for
[00:51:02] wheel of time very different for me to do that because I was literally looking at us as a tv show
[00:51:08] and trying to work out how what the tv show was trying to tell us was important about this universe
[00:51:12] so I thought it was great fun to cover that closing out the year with a with a big fantasy
[00:51:17] epic after doing so much other types of shows during the year I think it was great to do that
[00:51:22] yeah I really enjoyed wheel of time really excited to see what they come up with for
[00:51:26] for the second and third season and I think I will probably stay clear of the books for a
[00:51:31] while because I'm kind of enjoying that position on there on the podcast yeah it's good but why
[00:51:36] the last man was one that I was looking forward to for such a long time it's it's um I reread the
[00:51:40] book series before it came out um I'd heard so much about the production over the years and was
[00:51:45] really excited and hanging my hat uh on on this great show and then it came out and the show
[00:51:50] was great it was really good and got better as John said every single episode and then
[00:51:54] to be told it hadn't been given a renewal from Hulu for all of those reasons
[00:51:59] that Hulu won't renew shows um there's so many reasons it's changed ownership it's moved to
[00:52:06] moved to a different way of doing things so there are loads of reasons why it didn't get renewed
[00:52:12] for a for a season two at Hulu I'm really hoping that somebody would pick that up and
[00:52:16] I'm hoping people don't stop talking about why the last man it's a great show that
[00:52:20] shouldn't be lost uh to the winds of time I'd love to see it come back in some form in the
[00:52:25] future um or else we have our new answer for that question which show didn't
[00:52:30] uh should get more than one season it's not not just firefly now it's firefly and why the last man
[00:52:35] right yeah no that's true yeah exactly there you go um that's all the shows we covered uh
[00:52:40] throughout the course of 2021 we when we go through uh some of the results from our uh our
[00:52:45] facebook and twitter polls um on the shows that we covered so on our animated shows we
[00:52:50] mentioned Invisible, What If and Bad Batch um this was a really hard one battle over on twitter
[00:52:56] particularly uh Marvel's What If uh came out first with one vote in the difference um and Invincible
[00:53:02] and Bad Batch got the same number of votes over in twitter so that was quite interesting it's
[00:53:06] very very hard one battle so over on over on twitter it's uh Marvel's What If over on facebook
[00:53:11] a different story um we have with almost 48 percent of the vote Invincible coming in as
[00:53:16] the winner of our best animated show of 2021 yeah very interesting yeah that's very interesting yeah
[00:53:24] it's just fun to see the difference between the two uh between the two channels as well with
[00:53:28] uh with our Marvel TV shows interestingly uh the main show that came out on both um
[00:53:34] our facebook group and on on twitter was One Division um getting about 40 percent of the
[00:53:38] vote over on twitter and 35 percent of the vote over on facebook but on our facebook group
[00:53:44] Hawkeye and Loki were tied for position um as best tv show with exactly 28 percent of the vote
[00:53:50] for each of them which is quite interesting whereas over on twitter Loki was a more clear
[00:53:55] winner um than Hawkeye so uh so interesting i wonder if i wonder if the hashtags had
[00:54:00] something to play in that maybe maybe i was surprised by Falcon and the Winter Soldier
[00:54:07] being so low i really was yeah i think as as we mentioned you know all of these shows are
[00:54:12] MCU shows overall so it's quite difficult to parse them apart and when you have to choose just one
[00:54:17] of those four shows which was the choice that was available unfortunately well that was it wasn't it
[00:54:21] that was the issue yeah yeah it had to really dig deep as someone who normally picks three for my
[00:54:27] top one um yeah as we suddenly faced with an insurmountable problem yep sorry John and sorry
[00:54:35] everybody over at the over the facebook group and over on twitter but that's just how polls
[00:54:38] work i was trying to find it but yeah i guess if you're looking at that or the priority um yeah
[00:54:43] Falcon the Witch Soldier did come in as the lowest lowest votes for the shows but i think i think a
[00:54:48] lot of people enjoyed it anyway as a show and for the movies Spider-Man No Way Home a clear
[00:54:54] winner on both facebook and twitter and i think i think if i uh compared every single show and
[00:54:59] and movie that we did last year i think it's the one that's got the highest number of votes
[00:55:02] it certainly got some of the highest highest listenership for an episode of the podcast
[00:55:06] that we've done for the last year as well because i think everybody uh wanted to talk about it and
[00:55:09] everybody who'd seen it um if all their mates haven't seen it they want to listen to a podcast
[00:55:14] that's uh that's talking about it right so uh so they came and listened to ours which was
[00:55:17] really nice thank you very much for that um on the other MCU movies the non-sonic MCU
[00:55:22] will say how about that uh shanxi of the advent of the 10 rings uh did come in as
[00:55:27] as highest voted um from our from our listeners and and fellow defenders um eternals came
[00:55:33] in after that and black widow came in quite low there came in came in at the lowest point there but
[00:55:36] uh but i guess you know black widow as we mentioned is a story that we've known this character for
[00:55:42] such a long time eternals and shanxi both have uh both have people that love them because
[00:55:46] they're brand new characters in the universe so um i totally get that yeah no and again it
[00:55:51] it's interesting for me as well how like-minded high-minded i should say uh the the voting is
[00:56:02] in terms of even our own discussions internally uh as hosts it seems that kind of everyone's on
[00:56:09] a lot of the same track as us yeah in terms of how everything kind of netted out from a year of
[00:56:16] content that is 2021 yeah absolutely and the other shows that we covered um you know we choose
[00:56:22] these because there are for different audiences i wouldn't put you know i wouldn't say there's a
[00:56:26] huge amount of crossover between the wheel of time watchers and the pennyworth watchers for example
[00:56:30] uh or the why the last man watchers but uh but quite interesting the wheel of time
[00:56:34] um came out on top there of the other shows that we that we covered last year with uh
[00:56:37] with why the last man in second and i don't think that many people have seen pennyworths
[00:56:42] to be honest so i know i really don't think a bit of a gap in our podcasting or marvel 616
[00:56:47] or marvel 616 but i i do hope that when pennyworth comes out in hpl max that if you haven't had the
[00:56:52] chance to hack it out um you get to watch it and catch up on the adventures of off of pennyworth
[00:56:57] back in there back in the swinging dc 60s but it's also we have some very long-standing
[00:57:03] gothomites fellow gothomites um as well uh that have been with us there from the get go
[00:57:10] and when we were covering gothom absolutely moved with us with defenders picked that up and
[00:57:16] you know lots and lots of listeners that that um still recall the gothom days where it was
[00:57:25] karmicons and meeting up at karmicons and doing all that which of course is just like also the
[00:57:33] other great thing about doing these shows and linking in at the fan conventions and gotham
[00:57:41] is still one of the best tv shows that dc have ever done yep and you've got gothom central and
[00:57:46] the batman potentially coming both this year potentially who knows where gothom central
[00:57:53] will end up landing but i think that was probably what we thought gotham was going to
[00:58:00] be a very original yeah was waiting see yeah it's gonna be and you know when we're named went where
[00:58:06] we'll be back for that so there's a one for you absolutely uh right now i'm on tour uh played
[00:58:11] by um victoria kartena currently appearing on batwoman and has appeared on gothom as well
[00:58:16] uh played by the same actress which is cool i love that there's the connection there even though
[00:58:20] gothom is uh so superior to the uh to the cw shows um of course as we often mentioned back at
[00:58:27] the time that's it for everything that we've covered in 2021 i think it's time to take a trip to the pub
[00:58:31] and uh and the tavern i think you will find there yes that's true i even i wrote that incorrectly
[00:58:37] yes going off to the tavern to do our wheel of time pub quiz and choose the winner that we have
[00:58:42] for the wheel of time pub quiz there may be some spoilers if you haven't watched wheel of
[00:58:46] time in the questions for these episodes but since we're not doing a wrap up of wheel
[00:58:50] of time season one um we thought it would be good to actually award the the winner in this
[00:58:55] in this podcast right absolutely okay john let's take us through the first two questions
[00:59:00] yes fellow wheelies fellow quizzes fellow to virins and here the first two questions and
[00:59:07] answers from the wheel of time tavern quiz question one from episode one what does rand
[00:59:14] give to eggwayne that he has been carrying around with him all day it was of course
[00:59:20] a strawberry that's right i do like the fact that eggwayne said has that been in your pocket
[00:59:24] all day and not touching that heart and sweaty strawberries are not the thing to be eaten no
[00:59:31] and and for question two in the story told by marraine how many days did the army of minethrin
[00:59:40] hold out it was 13 days yes unlucky for some minethrin um by the sounds of it as their entire
[00:59:48] civilization was destroyed soon thereafter yes in episode three we had the question how many
[00:59:57] coppers does dana the serving girl charge rand and matt for their meal and their donation to the
[01:00:03] gleaman the answer was three coppers there we are and then in episode four what is the name
[01:00:11] of the dog that slept on marraine's bed when she was at the white tower and of course
[01:00:18] like all good dog names it was jenny not spot or patch or rover it was jenny telling you about
[01:00:28] jenny the dog by the time we get to season five that'll be massively important i'm sure
[01:00:33] i'm sure our question on episode five yeah jenny can channel the one source
[01:00:40] our question on episode five was what dish does parent not want to eat anymore as he travels with
[01:00:45] the sinkers he doesn't want to eat turnip curry turnip curry i think i'd be right with you parent
[01:00:52] for sure on that one i feel like we've done a really nice turnip soup with curry powder in it
[01:00:57] yes i think you could do it if you blend it a bit more kind of yes but this is where
[01:01:03] darik is confusing turnips with palsen oh that was right yeah that was nice thank you john um
[01:01:09] yes i don't want to know curry either our episode six question was what is the name of the town
[01:01:13] where leandron keeps her her secret relationship hidden it was north harbour yes what a dirty girl
[01:01:20] she's been on episode seven how many soldiers do we see rand's mother kill on the side of the
[01:01:29] dragon mount oh yeah she tries to give birth to her son the answer was a pale six but she was
[01:01:36] giving birth so we'll let her away with that as a maiden of the spear this was absolutely the best
[01:01:42] scene of the entire season that was it was pretty awesome absolutely amazing absolutely if you
[01:01:48] haven't had the chance there is a quick behind the scenes on youtube and x-ray and you know amazon
[01:01:55] prime video um that goes into the uh the actual shows you how they filmed that scene with the
[01:02:02] and they actually brought in a particular piece of camera machinery on a dolly that filmed at
[01:02:09] such high speed that if the stunt actors were off they would have been clocked so badly they
[01:02:18] would have got unconscious because it flipped so much so if they had a mr beat they would have been
[01:02:24] made unconscious very interesting to see yes definitely very cool and and finally our question
[01:02:31] eight what words does paddon feign used to access faldara it is the kingfisher flashes above the
[01:02:40] pond yes you dirty kingfisher you and flashing above the pond is the words that paddon feign uses to
[01:02:49] access faldara absolutely absolutely those are the eight questions and eight answers from our wheel of
[01:02:54] time tavern quiz for 2021 um we may have made these questions a little too hard yes we may have
[01:03:03] this is uh we do have only three of our fellow wheelies who've gotten top marks for uh for this
[01:03:10] tavern quiz yes who will be going into the draw for the goodies that we have which include the
[01:03:17] companion book to the wheel of time so you can learn all about your favorite characters
[01:03:25] and we will be asking you um whoever you are that wins um we will be asking you your t-shirt
[01:03:33] size as well as we will be getting official wheel of time t-shirt for you to to put on and to um
[01:03:43] maybe like a white cloak for example uh or one of the azure of the acedi and different colors
[01:03:51] okay don't be promising to you no i'm not promising too much but and we um we have three fellow
[01:03:57] wheelies who got top marks we have dr bob phillips james lawson and victor vondoon well done for uh
[01:04:06] getting all the answers right again as i say obviously quite difficult questions this time
[01:04:10] i have a feeling it may have been to do with the episode seven question with the the number
[01:04:16] of soldiers that ran some other uh saw off uh while she was giving birth might have been
[01:04:22] but remember if you do know the answers all the questions always send an entry to us to
[01:04:27] foodbucketvpodcastindustries.com and you could be in with the chance of getting some goodies
[01:04:30] about the show that we're doing our pub quiz a bit let's go on and see who's won this yes so it is
[01:04:36] over to chris who will shout blindly at his wall uh so that the electronic voice that just
[01:04:45] permeates everything um we'll be able to pick uh the winner yes hey google randomly pick a number
[01:04:55] between zero and three here's a random number two excellent stuff yes big big congratulations to
[01:05:06] james lawson uh who has been picked out of the electronic tombola by google's randomizer thank
[01:05:14] you so much for um your answers to the questions and congratulations on getting through to the
[01:05:21] the tombombola part and commiserations to um our fellow wheelies who weren't picked
[01:05:29] in this pub quiz but thanks so much for entering and to everyone that sent in their answers
[01:05:36] for the tavern quiz excellent congratulations james for your win there and we will have
[01:05:42] the results of our hawkeye pub quiz on our hawkeye wrap up episode which will be out after
[01:05:47] the hawkeye assembled episode um which is coming up on disney plus next wednesday the 18th of uh
[01:05:54] 19th of january um so that's when we'll be doing our hawkeye pub quiz but let's talk about some of
[01:05:59] the other shows we'll be covering in 2022 so let's talk about the shows we'll likely be covering
[01:06:03] from marvel next year i know chris had uh had in the dock he'd entered a garden of the galaxy
[01:06:08] christmas special which we are unlikely to be covering in our coverage for next year the show
[01:06:13] we will be covering because there's loads of shows coming out from marvel next year and
[01:06:17] loads of shows we do need to cover um we will be covering moon night miss marvel she hawk
[01:06:22] and secret invasion a secret invasion is the one that for as far as i'm aware we don't know has
[01:06:27] it been confirmed for this year but we know filming began on that last last summer um with
[01:06:32] nick fury taking a lead role uh in his own tv show finally i know as a nick fury fan that
[01:06:37] a nick fury tv show has been talked about since the early 90s um if anybody remembers uh
[01:06:42] david hassel half as nick fury that was the pilot for a nick fury tv show so so that's how
[01:06:48] long it's been talked about but this time it's going to be nick fury in the lead of secret
[01:06:51] invasion kind of cool to have uh sami bell jackson coming back yeah it's going to be an
[01:06:56] interesting one i think it will be because of the the level of filming that has taken place
[01:07:03] and some of the supposed if any of the leads are to believe the impact it will have on the
[01:07:11] wider slate of films and things like that absolutely because i know a lot of people have
[01:07:15] already been talking about it we've been talking about that we believe there's already
[01:07:18] been an impact in the background on some characters acting slightly differently um in some of the
[01:07:23] tv shows yeah i'm really looking forward to i mean i love this comic event when it came out
[01:07:28] uh really really enjoyed it so i can't wait to see what they do simple as that what hero do you
[01:07:35] trust and who's a a scroll in disguise yeah definitely definitely interesting one
[01:07:40] the one that was announced to come out in 2021 was miss marvel um fully filmed fully completed
[01:07:46] due to be out in 2021 but was moved um given the amount of content that marvel released last year
[01:07:51] that made lots of sense but do you guys think that means we're going to see her as the first
[01:07:55] show coming up this year since it was complete and was supposed to be out by the end of 2021
[01:07:59] no there was some reshoots done um supposedly to bring it closer in line to some of
[01:08:07] those things that are happening in the marvels which is miss mccaptain marvel 2 um which has uh
[01:08:14] monica rambo from one division miss marvel uh kamala khan from this show and captain marvel
[01:08:22] herself brie arson yes so that will have all of them in that film which comes out next year
[01:08:28] so apparently there was some reshoots i think that is the rq2 our kind of april may june because
[01:08:39] rumor has it uh and again rumors being rumors moon night is the show that opens 2022's mcu
[01:08:50] slate um i've been interested to see yeah both of these very very interested to see where they
[01:08:58] go with moon night we we know that uh some uh into the night a moon night podcast the moon night
[01:09:05] christ the moon night podcast and i know he is all over this along with all the other conchou
[01:09:11] kind of fanatics that are there so uh i'm interested to see both i could easily see it's
[01:09:20] one or the other one or the other is going to end up being the first film the first show
[01:09:25] well yes there's only three christ what there is one other christmas special that we you will not let us
[01:09:32] talk about no we'll talk about it it's one episode it's not a it's not a tv show though so uh it's
[01:09:36] it's kind of like a tv movie on disney plus um as far as i know so uh so that's the other
[01:09:41] thing that will be happening uh next year but as we say moon night miss marvel she hulk secret
[01:09:46] invasion are the likely shows that are even becoming out from marvel next year uh during
[01:09:51] the course of 2022 sorry um what do you think john what's what's coming up what ones are you excited
[01:09:56] about yeah i've said secret invasion uh already and miss marvel i'm really really actually excited
[01:10:04] for this i didn't think i was going to be um but in terms of learning more about the character
[01:10:09] i'm just i can't wait to see um this show and i i yeah i'm just really looking forward to
[01:10:17] and really intrigued moon night i'm i'm stoked that that's um that that's here um i just you know with
[01:10:26] with um podcasting and having rey involved with the defenders for so long and i know when
[01:10:33] dr strange happened for me like with nick fury with yourself um your grand christ spiderman's
[01:10:40] been around for ages and yes then you know absolutely stoked that that happened so i can
[01:10:45] only imagine uh the anticipation and excitement from uh into the night the moon night podcast
[01:10:56] and of course the fellow loonies um over the uh for the anticipation for this and i'm really
[01:11:02] excited to see um what uh what what they do with this character because inferno see has a lot
[01:11:09] of things going on but i really like with conchew and and all of this i guess almost
[01:11:16] given that we've just watched dexter his dark passenger and there's also his d id as well
[01:11:22] yeah so there's a lot of stuff to going on with this character of mark specter of moon night
[01:11:30] i'll be just really excited to see yeah what what they do with the with the character it's
[01:11:37] going to be really interesting because people that don't know the character will probably just
[01:11:39] think of him as a vigilante um so it'll be interesting to see how marvel handled that in
[01:11:43] the universe and how and how they're going to cast moon night as a as a character on tv because
[01:11:49] this year we've really dealt with a lot of major characters that everybody knew coming into
[01:11:53] all of the shows everybody that's there so these shows coming up this year moon night
[01:11:58] miss marvel and she hill particularly are all shows that feature characters that haven't appeared
[01:12:03] in the mcu before so it'll be really interesting to see how they deal with all of them
[01:12:06] she hulk is the one that's kind of that i'm kind of pushing out of my mind a little bit
[01:12:11] for for this year because it's apparently the nine episodes um half-hour comedy show
[01:12:16] and i just don't know what that looks like in marvel yet um i have more of a sense of what
[01:12:20] miss marvel's going to look like and more of a sense of what moon night looks like but she
[01:12:23] looks going to be quite different from what i understand from the descriptions of it but
[01:12:28] until we start seeing trailers for them i'll have i don't think i have a sense
[01:12:31] of of that show but everything that done in the mcu has always made me interested to
[01:12:35] give it a shot anyway so we'll see uh we'll see what that's gonna what's gonna happen this year
[01:12:38] yeah yeah she hulk for me is the hawker it's either it's going to end up being something
[01:12:43] that we absolutely love and just go oh my god how did we not guess this and this is fantastic
[01:12:50] or is this going to be something we really thoroughly enjoyed yeah it just it's it's
[01:12:54] one or the another again could could could be that weird case but i don't think so i kind of
[01:13:00] love the idea that that'll be the show where they introduce lots of characters crossing
[01:13:04] over because they're going in and out of a courtroom um i kind of like that idea where you
[01:13:07] where you could have loads of different people coming in and out of the show and it could be
[01:13:10] completely different every week that'd be cool and there is one other lawyer of well known
[01:13:17] repeat that is true potentially could come in who knows absolutely we could be seeing matt
[01:13:22] murdoch back on the on our tv screens that would be very cool be very cool uh one of the
[01:13:26] show that's on disney um which we kind of mentioned earlier on we mentioned the bad
[01:13:29] batch season one that we discussed that bad batch season two is in production no day confirmed but
[01:13:35] possibility that could also be coming out in 2022 as well yes yeah but that moves us into
[01:13:41] some of our other main shows that come from prime video which has been in my opinion kicking it out
[01:13:47] of the park not just even knocking out of the park kicking it out of the park this year um
[01:13:53] so in 2022 we have coming relatively soon um february uh picard season two yeah absolutely i'm really
[01:14:03] excited to see um how they're going to bring this character back in for season two season one
[01:14:09] we overall liked the season uh the season and there was it was a very different type of story
[01:14:14] than we've seen with picard in the past and this season is going to be really interesting
[01:14:18] film during covid but bringing back the q character from uh from star trek next generation and we
[01:14:23] awesome we all loved q when we watched next generation and his appearances on the subsequent
[01:14:27] show but it will be really interesting to see how they've how they've produced the second season
[01:14:32] of the show and confirmed for second and third season the third season is currently in production
[01:14:36] at the moment so um i've said it before to the guys all fair but i much prefer a second and third
[01:14:42] season of a show second third fourth season give me give me as much as possible of a group of
[01:14:46] characters that are going on with adventures because i think you can develop so much more
[01:14:51] when you get that a group of characters going into a second and third season and a lot of the
[01:14:54] stuff we covered in 2021 were first seasons of shows which is always a bit more difficult to get
[01:15:00] into groove of what the show is trying to do so so i'm really only seasons of shows for some
[01:15:05] of them and only exactly only season show for 2021 one but yeah it'll be interesting to see
[01:15:10] what uh what we have for star trek picard at the end of february i think but uh but no day
[01:15:14] just yes no and it's a weird one because it does have time travel
[01:15:19] according to the trailer um and that's a very interesting i i i the trailer didn't grab me
[01:15:26] really no the trailer didn't grab me q grabs me yeah i love the trailer didn't yeah but q
[01:15:32] wasn't in the trailer he is part of the trailer part of the trailer then let's say that the
[01:15:38] time travel aspect we have seen been done in star trek the motion picture and discovery as well
[01:15:44] to you're not a star trek show if you don't do time travel chris it's been a very single star
[01:15:48] trek tv show and movie i think not every movie okay let's say the the travel to the current past
[01:15:55] which is the current day when the film comes out that's the interesting part but i am very
[01:16:00] much here for it let's wait and see how it goes it might be the first star trek show to reference
[01:16:05] the pandemic which would be quite interesting oh my god always difficult when you film a show
[01:16:09] set in the future and miss out something like two and a half years of pandemics
[01:16:14] they may want to decide to reference that and start a star trek that would be really
[01:16:18] interesting and the boys are having a big year on prime video as well i think oh boy oh boy oh boy
[01:16:24] oh boy oh boy oh boys oh boys yes the boys season three hits our our faces with a big giant thing
[01:16:37] that sliders in through a door as we saw in season two um uh june third with three episodes
[01:16:43] yep continuing until then uh july 8th with the the final episode yeah and that's just see that's
[01:16:50] just the boys and we saw not a cliffhanger but we did see uh poor old wee hui go off to potentially
[01:16:58] work with a super villain yes um oh yeah so who knows yeah um the boys the boys had slid apart
[01:17:06] at the end of uh at the end of season two believing the mission was accomplished effectively so
[01:17:10] we saw a defenestrated villain um sort of also on a cliff edge um across Manhattan yeah telling
[01:17:19] everyone in the city below exactly uh what uh he thought of them yeah very true but we get
[01:17:26] two other boy shows this year supposedly we get the new uh college show um which is similar to
[01:17:36] teenage kicks apparently referencing the name teenage kicks but we're not quite sure which is
[01:17:41] the Xavier Academy X-Men Academy type one where it's going to be they are the superheroes in
[01:17:49] training in college coming up in the world um gonna be interesting um i don't know where this will be
[01:17:58] i don't know where it's gonna go to be honest but i'm kind of intrigued if they take the concept
[01:18:05] of the roughest secondary school possible and and put that put them in to that college
[01:18:16] yeah it could be i think that'd be really funny i think it would really feel
[01:18:21] um like the boys for sure so it's essentially Grange Hill no rougher than Grange Hill
[01:18:29] sorry that was a reference right here where UK listeners uh there you go um yeah that's
[01:18:35] me interested one i'm intrigued by this it's it's you know again from showrunner
[01:18:38] Kripke he's done such a good job moving over from supernatural to uh which was his biggest
[01:18:43] show beforehand moving over to the boys and creating a show that isn't just um exploding heads in your
[01:18:50] face every week which sometimes the comic could could feel like the boys comic and which can
[01:18:55] sometimes be just about how we can shock you this week with the storyline or with the artwork or
[01:19:00] or something like that but we've been saying for each of the series that we cover in the boys
[01:19:04] we've been kind of surprised at about how much heart he's been able to get from the characters
[01:19:09] sometimes the characters were quite illy defined in the comic books and he's created really good
[01:19:13] characters around them for the tv show but really interested to see what he does with season three
[01:19:18] and interesting if he if he's able to carry that on with brand new characters into a separate
[01:19:22] spin-off or some existing characters from from the boys and pulling them into this into this
[01:19:27] college spin-off i don't know i don't know how it's going to work but um but we'll
[01:19:32] certainly be checking it out and seeing and seeing what comes from it another spin-off as we mentioned
[01:19:37] as chris mentioned there's a third spin-off which is the diabolical animated show coming from
[01:19:42] the boys as well um so this is a bunch of of interesting creators who've been given the task to
[01:19:47] write episodes based in the universe of the boys and apparently just been told to tell
[01:19:53] whatever story they want to know reins on them at all so uh there could be some very
[01:19:57] interesting stuff coming out of that show yeah it's like star wars visions but in the boys
[01:20:03] it's gonna be we've know we've got Seth Rogen doing takes apparently like there's some other
[01:20:09] well-known stand-up comedians kind of jump lani i think is referenced it's either gonna
[01:20:15] be amazing or it's gonna be hit and miss each and every week um so i can i'm interested to see
[01:20:23] i trust they they've earned my trust in the first two seasons now so i'm interested to see
[01:20:27] where it goes absolutely absolutely the boys expanded universe yeah it'll be interesting to see
[01:20:34] you know definitely hope they pull it off to be honest and we also have um just two on on prime
[01:20:43] video and just to keep the fantasy side going there is of course the wheel of time season two
[01:20:48] following on from um this uh first season that we've just covered possibly in november
[01:20:56] 2022 where we will find or a journey with ran see where he he gets to what happens
[01:21:04] at faldara in the aftermath of the big battle and of course prime video really going fantasy
[01:21:11] honors because there is uh in september 2022 there is the middle earth tv show as well yeah
[01:21:19] looking at the world of jr talking and back in the early days yes yeah absolutely i've been
[01:21:29] seeing lots of artwork coming out this week calling it the lord of the rings tv show and
[01:21:34] it's it's not a remake of the three lord of the rings movies now this is set in a different time
[01:21:38] on middle earth but i know they have to make a connection between the two because some people
[01:21:42] may not make the connection i suppose so um so we don't have a name for the show as of yet i
[01:21:48] think it is just uh just middle earth um and season one due to start from friday the second of
[01:21:53] september 2022 so it's very likely we'll be going straight from middle earth tv show directly into
[01:21:59] the wheel of time so we are going to be fantasizing it right up uh towards the end we won't know
[01:22:04] where one starts in the other ends to be honest it'll be very interesting there's so much um
[01:22:10] that these two um sort of massive properties have have in common to some extent but have
[01:22:19] you know uh have it in different ways and with different evolutions certainly with then wheel
[01:22:25] of time being um later shall we say yeah and if you thought we were messing up the names on
[01:22:32] season one of wheel of time wait till we get middle earth going on and leading into wheel of
[01:22:37] time it's gonna be it's gonna be fun well absolutely i mean the interesting thing as well
[01:22:42] you know we were talking about the adaptation on wheel of time but for me you know peter jackson's
[01:22:48] adaptation of the lord of the rings books was so good and you know we were talking recently myself
[01:22:55] and derrick just how you know the the character of say tom bombadil in the lord of the rings
[01:23:02] trilogy takes up so much of the the books as you know there's large amounts and on in in the books
[01:23:08] but isn't in the movies so i think it'll be interesting to see the adaptation uh of lord
[01:23:15] of the rings and for sure because i really enjoy fantasy i i found lord of the rings as books
[01:23:22] really uh a struggle for me even though i in the end i love them but i i remember even just
[01:23:29] i was i was damaged as a child dare i say it and because i went from the hobbit which i loved
[01:23:37] straight into um the the fellowship of the ring and i was just like okay this isn't like the
[01:23:44] hobbit yeah and and uh it was quite young i had just made me put them away for such a long time
[01:23:53] to be honest right now is the one i'm most unsure about and which i'm going to enjoy
[01:24:01] i enjoyed the lord of the rings it would not be one of my top series or kind of franchises
[01:24:10] because it is so epic and i very similar to mr harrison i read it as a child and i read the
[01:24:20] hobbit as a child and every now and again i was just like oh i forgot who this person is and let me go
[01:24:27] check this dream index now saying this as someone who who's read all 15 books like i know it is
[01:24:36] probably to do with timing and age and things like just never it did not grab me as much as
[01:24:41] say the wheel of time would grab me um and again that could be the old emo kid in me i'm not going
[01:24:47] to read the same thing everyone else reads i'm going to read my own version yeah which is the
[01:24:52] wheel of time um which has now become exactly exactly uh the wheel this is the wheel wheels absolutely
[01:25:01] absolutely but but i'm a huge fan of lord of the rings i'm really excited to see
[01:25:05] what they do in the tv show i know there's going to be lots of comparisons with peter
[01:25:08] jackson's movies um i know they filmed the first season over in over in new zealand they used
[01:25:13] they tried to use a lot of similar things to evoke what peter jackson was doing but it's not
[01:25:19] peter jackson and it is a tv show so things like excluding tom bombadil a major character within
[01:25:24] the lord of the rings for time which is what peter jackson had to do it means they may not have
[01:25:29] to do that um the lord of the rings is a winding epic story but it is not about battles it's
[01:25:35] not about getting to the battle which is what the movies were about it was for a movie audience
[01:25:39] so it will be quite different so it'll be interesting to see how much of the style of
[01:25:43] tulkins writing they'll be taking as opposed to the style of doing a fantasy epic tv show yeah so
[01:25:49] that that's one of the things i'm most interested about and and that's the only thing that will
[01:25:53] concern me about it because it is going to be different than the wheel of time um it it
[01:25:59] will look different but after seeing the wheel of time i know the prime video can do epic
[01:26:04] fantasy as well so uh so right now i'm really up on this i'm really looking forward to seeing
[01:26:09] what what what comes from the middle earth tv show speaking of things i'm looking forward to
[01:26:13] and speaking of things that are coming up that are really exciting the second season of good
[01:26:17] omens from neil gayman and terry pratchas is coming this year i cannot wait so excited for
[01:26:25] this loved season one absolutely based on the book um this is not in that sense
[01:26:32] yeah it's not based on a book but based on a treatment that terry pratchas and neil gayman
[01:26:36] put together back back when they were doing good omens about what could happen with the characters
[01:26:40] of azirafail and crowley um if they continued on together after that story ended so that's quite
[01:26:46] interesting i love when uh when neil gayman was getting criticism for not being based on a book
[01:26:51] and he was going well the original book wasn't based on a book either so i thought that was good
[01:26:56] the book didn't exist before i wrote it so um that makes sense so i really
[01:27:00] adreed it's great to see that cast back together again i think uh i think michael schien and david
[01:27:04] talent are so good on screen pretty much everything they've done but i do think good omens is probably
[01:27:09] the epitome of what the two of them have done together for me i think it's it has worked so
[01:27:13] well and you see them on everything on panel shows you see them on uh doing their own tv show
[01:27:17] stage comedy show they've appeared together so many times over the years now but good omens
[01:27:22] was such a great first experience of the two of them together and i'm really glad that
[01:27:27] they're coming back for season two i'm so excited um for good omen season two which is
[01:27:33] filming now but it's probably more than likely gonna be in 2023 but you never know uh how it
[01:27:40] goes so um yeah michael schien and david tenon are just sublime together in the first season
[01:27:50] it's funny it's witty and so i really can't wait for it you know the singing nuns or the chattering
[01:27:59] order of st barrell were just um so so good as they sort of nursed the um the devil born into
[01:28:11] the world in in the first season of good omen so i really hope that flavor is taken through
[01:28:18] and to be honest a little baby antichrist with his lovely tozy wozies yes exactly but speaking of
[01:28:26] neil gayman this year more than likely we are also getting over on neflix the epic speaking of epics
[01:28:35] saman yeah this is something that i'd never thought was going to be filmable no probably the most
[01:28:42] one of the most talked about comic book series of all time san man is is one that lots of
[01:28:46] comic fans give to other people if they think they don't like superhero comics check out san man um
[01:28:52] it's it's something to to read it's something to share with other people um i'm shocked it's coming
[01:28:59] after listening to the the first two acts of the audio plays i can see i can envision it in my head
[01:29:04] how it can be adapted so i'm really hopeful for this neil gayman's heavily involved saying all
[01:29:10] the right things about the people involved at netflix and what they're doing with the treatment
[01:29:13] of san man um this is confirmed for 2022 right now um it's being called the year of the year of
[01:29:19] san man by all the fans and neil gayman's retweeting that constantly so it has been confirmed for 2022
[01:29:24] uh that we've seen a little bit of footage of it as well from from an early trailer back in
[01:29:28] october of last year but it's going to be really interesting unfortunately my pet peeve
[01:29:34] unfortunately it's on netflix so it's all dropping in a day um for such a big epic show i wanted
[01:29:39] to have that thing that we have where you can pour over it every week like we have with wheel of time
[01:29:43] um but we won't be able to do that with that with with san man we will uh we will of course discuss
[01:29:48] with the podcast and pick it apart of course as we always do but um it's a bit of a shame that
[01:29:52] it's all coming out one day over there but we will still be covering it weekly definitely yeah well
[01:29:56] yes but speaking of another show again we're talking about shows coming into getting their finding
[01:30:02] their feet in their second and third seasons um this year as well uh we see the return
[01:30:09] to the umbrella excuse me the spiral academy yes uh yes season three of umbrella academy
[01:30:15] is confirmed for this year for 2022 um if filming has finished it's in post production um they are
[01:30:23] now teasing the uh the main accounts are teasing the spiral academy and the the characters we
[01:30:28] meet um and yeah it's uh it's ju we don't know when it's ju but it is ju yeah and this is this
[01:30:36] is likely to come in the first half of the year i think the teasing has just started at the start
[01:30:41] of january i think it's likely to come in the first half of the year but it's it's been a really
[01:30:44] weird year for tv i think when we've done this wrap up and look forward on on on tv in the past
[01:30:49] we've had a lot more dates at the start of the year for shows coming up but it seems like
[01:30:53] nobody wants to release their schedule for the year just in case anything happens with their
[01:30:57] post production or with uh or with the final filming that they've got going on so uh so it
[01:31:01] will be interesting but yes umbrella academy season two particularly was a big surprise for us a really
[01:31:06] really good uh second season of that show um after the first season had some really good
[01:31:11] characters in it second season was a really good show overall so i'm excited for season three
[01:31:16] oh me me too definitely um i i can't wait for this duraz air slightly more um up for this
[01:31:24] than the boys season three i i'm really i loved season two i love season one as well
[01:31:32] those characters in here that i simply adore and i think i've been doing so much better than
[01:31:40] the comics and sorry don't shoot me but i just love um i i love these these characters
[01:31:50] yeah no no no completely agree i really can't wait for this i think it's going to be
[01:31:56] if rumors are to be believed in the story they are adapting then it is going to be a very
[01:32:03] pretty good show excellent excellent and i know we mentioned on the podcast that
[01:32:07] brother kattamedy get through all of the comic books and i'd agree with john that the show
[01:32:11] does such a better job with those characters overall so i can't even remember is there
[01:32:15] a great storyline they haven't touched on uh on the show so far because i don't think got to
[01:32:19] a great storyline um but i'm really excited to see uh whether uh they'll burn one up again on
[01:32:26] season that season three of umbrella academy excellent stuff we mentioned already on either
[01:32:30] show that we have that we're covering next year um we haven't mentioned so far uh penny worth
[01:32:34] season three coming out in hbo later this year after the first two seasons are made available
[01:32:38] we'll be going back for that sure why not it's always fun to talk to talk about alford
[01:32:42] pennyworth in the dc universe speaking of the dc universe we will also be covering
[01:32:47] some movies next year one massive one that's coming out the batman coming on march fourth
[01:32:52] really really interested to see what matweave is going to be bringing this universe of the batman
[01:32:58] yeah i'm interested to see we talked about not a lot of dates uh so far on the tv shows
[01:33:05] the film schedule is the one i'm very interested to see how that
[01:33:11] saying now the dates that we have versus how that actually fleshes out towards the end of the year
[01:33:17] obviously the world being the world we currently live in we have already seen morbius slip uh it's
[01:33:25] a scheduled date uh into later in the year so it's going to be interesting to see will batman
[01:33:31] the batman which one is very i'm very interested to see will that actually land in march yeah um
[01:33:38] yeah it's going to be an interesting one yeah i hope so and i think you mentioned as well
[01:33:42] earlier on chris but i was gonna just save it for this little bit of discussion interestingly
[01:33:46] this is the first movie in the dc universe that is getting a tie-in tv show off the back
[01:33:51] of it as well the um goth of central coming on the back of it with most of the major cast
[01:33:56] from the batman going to make appearances in that show which will be uh very interesting to
[01:34:00] see so it's the first time that that dc have really done this tying in a tv show to their movies
[01:34:05] kind of following the marvel model right um so it'll be interesting to see technically uh we have
[01:34:11] peacemaker coming out on january 17th very true thanks chris is a tie-in to the suicide squad
[01:34:19] that's correct sorry i i'm completely incorrect chris is totally right peacemaker is the first
[01:34:24] show that ties in but uh yeah the the uh the batman being notable for the fact that
[01:34:29] it has got that connection to gothams central as well and i guess we'll be covering gothams
[01:34:33] central absolutely we're going back to gotham anytime you want to bring us back to gotham
[01:34:37] will be there excellent next big mcu movie coming for the year um been moved once already hopefully
[01:34:43] it'll stay where it is but uh john finally everything leads to dr strange in the multiverse of madness
[01:34:49] yes mom in in other words yes it mother has landed um i yeah like i've said it a million times
[01:34:58] in multiple uh multiverses um which is quite a lot actually multiple multiverses and
[01:35:05] then yeah can't wait for this the one thing i have theory i've i've learned very recently
[01:35:13] is that on the the current teaser there is a dr strange with a ponytail and of course
[01:35:21] because it's been delayed and the action figures haven't been delayed it uh there's there isn't
[01:35:28] another a third dr strange from the teaser trailer with his ponytail which certainly
[01:35:36] will be great for the defenders podcast uh for sure yes yes it will if rumors are too believed
[01:35:44] if rumors are to be believed it was interesting when john pointed to safety the day that this
[01:35:48] is uh that this is the room that's going around i thought it was interesting that the poster that
[01:35:51] marvel have literally just released for the multiverse of madness has three dr strange on
[01:35:56] the poster with two scarlet witches so i thought that was quite interesting whether they're
[01:36:00] just playing into that in a little sly way as well was uh it was quite fun but really excited to
[01:36:04] see dr strange the multiverse madness kicking off directly after um the events of spider man
[01:36:09] no way home as well like it ties directly into that which is quite interesting and to have
[01:36:13] story continued in there two other movies coming out this year in the mcu that i actually forgot
[01:36:19] were coming out this year um for some reason i thought black panther 2 will kind of forever was
[01:36:25] in production but it was in for in production for a much later date sometime in 2023 but
[01:36:30] that's aiming to come out on november 11th 2022 now production did stop recently with the
[01:36:34] titular right um having an injury reportedly um so we don't know whether the production has
[01:36:41] resumed um as such they were filming around her and filming scenes that didn't contain her
[01:36:46] um for a while but that seems to have been going on for a bit longer than they expected so
[01:36:50] i hope they can make that date this year because i am excited to see that universe of what conda
[01:36:55] continued definitely yes and there's so much dependant on that because we will have a show
[01:36:59] based on the door melasia coming to disney plus in the future as well that's already
[01:37:03] been announced so a lot of dependency on having that universe coming back into the world of the mcu
[01:37:08] prior to that show starting on disney plus as well so one of those wonderful mcu things
[01:37:14] of having to get so many ducks in a row yeah so much production going on definitely um i'm really
[01:37:19] looking forward to seeing black panther 2 um for sure and also then there is the the movie that you
[01:37:27] cannot wait for derrick which is thought love and thunder i skipped twice and forgot to put it
[01:37:34] on the document when uh when i was putting together the list of all the things we're covering
[01:37:38] and then realized that's also it this year yeah july 8 2022 yeah i think i'm looking forward to
[01:37:45] potential being one of a really good one yeah um i it has valkyrie it has jane foster is
[01:37:53] returning yeah bortman as jane foster is returning um you have the gardens of the galaxies
[01:37:59] exactly are going to be in this effort and probably at least at the beginning you have christian
[01:38:04] bale as potentially the god killer um it's the main villain yeah um which christian bale as
[01:38:15] exactly always going to be a good it has huge potential um it's to be questioning about
[01:38:22] what level of comedy they go for in this where um the mighty thore which was jane's fosters character
[01:38:32] there is going to be a question of so she became thore in the comic books um for because she had
[01:38:41] cancer so i am wondering if they're going to continue that storyline because that is a very
[01:38:45] it's a very dark storyline to parts of it absolutely very interesting if taekawa
[01:38:50] titi puts any kind of storyline to it at all um oh it's already started ladies and gentlemen
[01:38:59] yeah derrick is on fire with his burns today you know it's fascinating i do love taekawa titi
[01:39:04] and a lot of the movies that he's done i just know that this one will have more influence from
[01:39:08] than the last movie did and i'm just not that massively excited for uh for thore love and
[01:39:12] thunder of course you're gonna watch it and we'll talk about it when we get to podcast
[01:39:15] about it but one that i know we're all excited about and i'm definitely looking forward to
[01:39:19] this one another spider man movies coming next year spider man across the spider verse part one
[01:39:24] has been announced for october 7th 2022 we all loved into the spider verse i know um we still
[01:39:30] probably put it up there as one of the best spider man movies um one of the best comic book
[01:39:34] movies of all time yeah maybe maybe one of the best comic book movies as well um and i know
[01:39:39] you guys were still kind of battling about whether that's no way home now and into the
[01:39:43] spider verse um recency bias and how great no way home is uh of course um kind of edging it
[01:39:49] up there as well but but into the spider verse was a fantastic um version of the spider man still
[01:39:54] my favorite yeah it's going to be huge and ask you isaac who had a cameo at the end of the
[01:40:01] into the spider verse now here um basically full on uh in this up in the show as spider
[01:40:08] man 2099 yeah yes um mcgallow harrah um so it's going to be interesting to see where this goes
[01:40:14] and it's part one of two so uh it's going to be a an epic of a film yeah um so i can't wait to see
[01:40:22] absolutely so many epics that we'll be covering next year there we're gonna have time guys
[01:40:28] that's the big question yeah just not on epics well no anywhere that will still be on epics next
[01:40:33] year john i probably okay yeah okay yeah so what i will say is one honorable mention that i just
[01:40:38] want to say for our fellow industrious to have a check for is on prime video starting at the end of
[01:40:44] i think it's the 28th of january is the legend of vox maca which is an animated version of critical
[01:40:51] roles dnd show um it is going to be good it is just through all those things that we said we're
[01:40:58] covering this is one that just we couldn't make happen uh in terms of the covering for this year
[01:41:04] so uh strongly recommend everyone check it out as an honorable mention uh yes the legend of vox
[01:41:09] maca in the end of july january interesting i'll have to have a look at that i don't know
[01:41:13] don't know much about critical role or or their dnd show so it'll be interesting to see what
[01:41:17] what comes out of that um yes i know we've talked about it before and one of the show
[01:41:21] that's outstanding that we haven't talked about at all is uh is the witcher because um unfortunately
[01:41:26] due to our um recent extended stay in the uk we've missed our opportunity to fit the witcher
[01:41:31] into our podcast coverage um the way we normally would which is we recorded in between christmas and
[01:41:36] new years and released at the start of the year so we're just trying to find time and see if we were
[01:41:40] able how we're going to be able to cover uh the witcher before we start our next schedule of shows
[01:41:45] we're hoping that we're going to be able to get back to cover the witcher hopefully before
[01:41:48] the end of this month guys yep that is the hope it is just it's like a uh moving dartboard
[01:41:55] trying to find time and space to both watch and then cover exactly exactly one of those shows
[01:42:02] we were all hoping to binge uh during that period between christmas and new years and then we lost
[01:42:05] it and didn't have any internet to to binge on netflix unfortunately but hopefully we'll be able
[01:42:09] to cover it hopefully you've been enjoying the witcher if you have you can send him feedback
