Based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski and the game series "The Witcher" from CD Projekt Red

Showrunner and Lead Writer: Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich

Episode 3 - Reunion

Written by Haily Hall

Directed by Gandja Monteiro

Synopsis: Jaskier is still thinking about Prince Radovid. He might just have a crush on him. But his contemplation is interrupted when Geralt needs his help with the girl he found at the Castle Vuilpanne.

Geralt brings the girl to a friend of his mothers Anika. Under a potion cooked up by Anika’s partner Otto they learn that the girl is a student called Teryn from Aretuza who was kidnapped by a man who she’d always been afraid of as a novice and a woman with a strange voice. Geralt and Jaskier resolve to go to Aretuza leaving Teryn with the couple.

Meanwhile, after deciding Ciri needs better instruction to become the leader she believes she should be, Yennifer has to also change herself to be allowed back into the Brotherhood of mages. Unhappy with being treated like a servant by the mages from Aretuza, Ciri steals a horse and runs to find Garalt.

But on the journey the spectral forms of The Wild Hunt bleed through to The Continent searching for Ciri but Geralt drives them away.

Up in the Northern kingdom’s Rodanian intelligence make a big play to get King Vizimir back in line. With Queen Hedwig conducting secret meetings with Nilfgaard without the permission of Dijkstra and Phillipa, they have Queen’s head served to their boss in a box blaming Nilfgaard for her murder.

Back in Nilfgaard the elf Gallitan brings Cahir to Emperor Emhyr and tells him of Francesca’s plan to capture Ciri. He wants support to overthrow Francesca and get back on his mission to take the Northern territories. But, following a private audience with Emyr, Cahir is ordered to prove himself as a good leader by murdering Gallatin. Reluctantly Cahir brutally carries out his orders.

Episode 4 - The Invitation

Written by Rae Benjamin

Directed again by Gandja Monteiro

Synopsis: Aboard a ship to Aretuza, Geralt, Ciri, Jaskier and the rest of the crew are attacked by an Aeschna which Geralt and Ciri team up and kill.

At Aretuza, in spite of opposition from Stregobor and Artorius Vigo, Yennefer convinces the Brotherhood of Sorcerers to host a conclave for mages to strengthen the unity of the North against Nilfgaard, and later, she visits the Redanian court in person to invite Philippa Eilhart and try to win the support of King Vizimir who orders not only Philippa, but Dijkstra and Prince Radovid to attend as well.

On her way back through the portal to Aretuza, Yennefer is ambushed by a creature that looks like Geralt but she manages to escape.

Upon reaching Franscesca and the Scoia'tael, Cahir persuades her to join forces in their search for Ciri on behalf of Emperor Emhyr. Although Emhyr believes the former mage of Nilfgaard Fringilla is dead, she has escaped and is enjoying her new found freedom in a local tavern. There she learns about the conclave of the brotherhood of mages.

Meanwhile, Triss and Istredd investigate the missing Aretuzan novices and the Book of Monoliths, and, similar to Yennefer and Geralt, they arrive at the conclusion that Stregobor is the mastermind behind those events, and is the mage behind Rience's actions.

Ciri, with Jaskier babysitting, are kept in a safe haven away from Aretuza; Radovid tracks Jaskier down and they kiss; just as. Geralt, Yennefer, and the Northern mages gather at Aretuza to begin the conclave with a spectacular ball.

[00:03:40] Yes.

[00:03:41] I'll spoil a filled discussion.

[00:03:43] Derek, let's kick this off with who gives us what we're when and why.

[00:03:49] Well, the show, of course, is based on the book series by Andrew of Subtokeski and the game series from CD Projekt Red.

[00:03:55] Shower, and for the show, of course, is Lauren Schmidt, his rich.

[00:03:58] And the episode of the show is directed by Ganger Muntaro.

[00:04:01] Most recently, Ganger directed two episodes of Wednesday on Netflix.

[00:04:05] Very good.

[00:04:06] Yes.

[00:04:07] And she also is directing two episodes of The Walking Dead, Spinoff, Dead City, the

[00:04:11] Big Bugs at One with Neegan and Maggie in New York.

[00:04:14] Yeah.

[00:04:15] We don't cover the, dead city over here on this podcast on TV podcast industries.

[00:04:20] But a show that we are covering that Ganger directed as well is Agatha Covenovkhael,

[00:04:25] us.

[00:04:26] She just wrapped up production on Agatha Covenovkhael's from Marvel.

[00:04:29] Good.

[00:04:30] So, see more of Ganger in the future.

[00:04:32] We certainly will.

[00:04:33] We certainly will.

[00:04:34] She also directed episode four of The Season of Witcher 2.

[00:04:36] Yes.

[00:04:37] At this episode was written by Haley Hall.

[00:04:39] Haley has been working on The Witcher all the way back to Season 1.

[00:04:41] Starting out as a staffer.

[00:04:42] I remember, Season 1, an executive story editor in Season 2, also at the screenplay for

[00:04:46] Season 1 Episode 6 and wrote Season 2 Episode 6 as well.

[00:04:50] Excellent stuff.

[00:04:51] All the ages going on there.

[00:04:53] Yeah, good stuff.

[00:04:54] Yeah, good stuff.

[00:04:55] John, do you want to tell us what the gave us with your synopsis for?

[00:04:58] The Witcher Season 3 Episode 3.

[00:05:01] Reunion.

[00:05:02] Sure.

[00:05:03] Yasuke is still thinking about Prince Radavid.

[00:05:06] He might just have a crush on him.

[00:05:08] But his contemplation is interrupted when Geralt needs his help with the girl he found at Castle

[00:05:13] Volpin.

[00:05:14] Geralt brings the girl to a friend of his mother's Anika.

[00:05:18] And to a potion cooked up by Anika's partner, also they learn that the girl is a student

[00:05:23] called Terren from Aratusa, who was kidnapped by a man who should always be in a frayed

[00:05:29] off as a novice at the school and a woman with a strange voice.

[00:05:34] Geralt and Yasuke are resolved to go to Aratusa, leading Terren with the couple.

[00:05:39] Meanwhile, after deciding to see her needs better instruction to become the leader she

[00:05:43] believes she should be.

[00:05:45] Anika has to also change herself to be allowed back into the brotherhood of mages.

[00:05:51] But as the mages return to pick up, Siri, she is unhappy with being treated like a servant

[00:05:57] by the mages from Aratusa.

[00:05:59] Siri steals a horse and runs to find Geralt.

[00:06:03] But on the journey, the spectral forms of the wild hunt bleed through to the continent

[00:06:08] searching for Siri but Geralt drives them away.

[00:06:12] Open the Northern Kingdoms, Rodanian intelligence make a big play to get King Visamir

[00:06:18] back in line.

[00:06:19] With Queen Headwreau conducting secret meetings with Nilfgaard without the permission of

[00:06:23] Dijkstra and Philippa, they have the Queen's head served to their boss in a box, blaming

[00:06:29] Nilfgaard for her murder.

[00:06:31] While back in Nilfgaard, the elf Gallatin brings Kehea to Emperor Emir and tells him

[00:06:36] of Francesca's plan to capture Siri.

[00:06:39] She wants to support over throw Francesca and get back on his mission to take the Northern

[00:06:44] territories, but following a private audience with Emir, Kehea is ordered to prove himself

[00:06:50] as a good leader by murdering Gallatin.

[00:06:53] Reluctantly Kehea brutally carries out his orders.

[00:06:57] Yes, lots of brutality in the Zephas and lots.

[00:07:02] Like it's not a show that she has away from blood or a murder or torture for that matter

[00:07:06] but this is another episode that feels like a game of thrones.

[00:07:11] All kind of in the head neck area.

[00:07:15] So it's a little squeaky and squeaky.

[00:07:18] Certainly yes.

[00:07:19] But you do get a sense and I have to say that moment before Kehea kills Gallatin and the performance

[00:07:29] of Amin Farron.

[00:07:32] I just really, really enjoyed because I did get this sense that something bad was going

[00:07:38] to happen.

[00:07:39] I didn't really have that up to that point.

[00:07:42] Certainly not while Kehea is proving his loyalty again and being, I didn't expect

[00:07:48] Emir would go that route in terms of killing Gallatin.

[00:07:54] But I just really liked how he behaves in this scene with really edgy.

[00:07:59] There was this emphasis on the drinking, almost like the Dutch courage of situation.

[00:08:06] But also in terms of the lines for this scene it really felt like he was playing out and

[00:08:11] justifying in real time to go and listen about what he was about to do.

[00:08:15] And I just thought this was really good because I did think something pretty horrific

[00:08:21] was going to happen there.

[00:08:23] And because of that but not because of the lead look and it put me on edge for the scene

[00:08:28] which in the end proved right for me and I thought, that was really good little performance

[00:08:35] from Amin Farron which I really enjoyed because he was so big.

[00:08:41] So big in season one, that fall from grace and it's good to get a bit of time back with

[00:08:47] Kehea in this season as well.

[00:08:50] Absolutely.

[00:08:51] I really liked the band to between the two of them in that scene and it wasn't putting me on edge at all.

[00:08:55] I was kind of going, okay there are making friends.

[00:08:57] Kehea finally has somebody that will stand by his side because while Kehea is technically

[00:09:02] a Bows guy in the show he's been punished quite a lot.

[00:09:05] Yeah.

[00:09:06] Correct.

[00:09:07] The two seasons that we've seen him so far.

[00:09:08] And I think Gallatin calling A2 and that's you were the poor little rich boy that lost

[00:09:13] everything and he's like no no the money was gone way before I was kicked out of court.

[00:09:17] I thought that was just a joke but it turns out actually.

[00:09:20] It's not a joke, it's that is what happened to Kehea he is indecid to the Emperor effectively.

[00:09:26] So willing to basically do any command even taking a Galton the one that brought him back

[00:09:32] to court.

[00:09:33] Yeah it was good to be up as a take.

[00:09:35] I thought the subtle behavior in that scene from Kehea was just really good.

[00:09:41] It really felt perfect.

[00:09:45] Yeah for that scene.

[00:09:46] And by by Robbie Hammer.

[00:09:47] I know.

[00:09:48] Shores and sweet.

[00:09:49] We really surprised when he turned up on the show because he does have a lot of work

[00:09:52] on.

[00:09:53] He's a very hard working actor.

[00:09:54] He's got lots of other shows on.

[00:09:56] Was definitely surprised at him turning up but even more surprised in a quick please go.

[00:10:01] Absolutely.

[00:10:02] But that's kind of a side point, Sean.

[00:10:04] We don't only take out our big moments from the episode.

[00:10:07] So what's your big moment from episode three of The Witcher season three?

[00:10:11] And for me it's the gradual coming together of the puzzle here around you know this dark

[00:10:19] mage in the shadows, puppeting re-ent here and in particular with Siri version two as released

[00:10:27] by Anison.

[00:10:28] And I really enjoyed this.

[00:10:30] I loved how you know with Gautfinding Siri series doppelganger in the previous episode

[00:10:40] like you know first and foremost you know Geral talking to Yaskir sort of interrupting

[00:10:47] him obsessing about Raja Vede.

[00:10:50] He kind of confirms here that actually it's part of an experiment.

[00:10:54] Right.

[00:10:55] And it's you know there's a rambling here from Terran the girl and he takes her to Anika.

[00:11:06] What's really good here not only the puzzle but because Anika is a friend of Geral's

[00:11:11] mum I like how this links into the animated spin-off.

[00:11:16] Just really just a touch.

[00:11:19] But it's really nice after having seen the animated spin-off at looking at Geral's sort

[00:11:25] of early life.

[00:11:27] Nightmare the wolf just in case I'm going to be hasn't seen that.

[00:11:29] And you know that was a nice little touch here and I thought it worked well in this context

[00:11:34] of Geral being a protector of this unknown young girl and in terms of how he felt about

[00:11:41] his own mother's protection of him when he speaks with Anika later on in the episode.

[00:11:49] But I think out here with the fact that Siri version two here Terran is effectively

[00:11:57] enchanted and has a mind control because they need her to believe

[00:12:04] that she is Siri.

[00:12:05] So there needs to be some manipulation here so these experiments are kind of part of

[00:12:11] a manipulation.

[00:12:12] She is half-alvin, half human and so Anika who has a druid is expert in potions so gives

[00:12:24] her a potion to cure it.

[00:12:27] It will be able to so that they can find out more of the information.

[00:12:32] One of the other side of this is the Anika says all the different types of magic required

[00:12:37] for this mind control whether it's even Elvin Elder Magic.

[00:12:45] There's a number of different things that the mage behind this experimentation has a lot

[00:12:50] of interests, she says to pull this off because of the different types of magic required.

[00:12:57] But Geralt is almost feels here impatient in the end and so comes in from a conversation

[00:13:05] with Yaskir after he's been chopping wood.

[00:13:07] And you like the fact that Yaskir is kind of saying you've kind of chopped enough wood

[00:13:12] for fires for the next two centuries.

[00:13:16] But it is something about Yaskir talking about the source of the original series sort

[00:13:25] of own sort of strength and internal strength there.

[00:13:30] Makes Geralt impatient because Yaskir hits on there's always a source to the magic.

[00:13:37] And so in effect he interrupts Anika's potion which needs a long time for it to take effect.

[00:13:45] But he does wake up the girl and finds out her name, Tyrann.

[00:13:51] She finds out that she was dragged from a room by a man and a woman.

[00:13:57] But also then importantly that the man who pulled her from the room

[00:14:04] at Skirz, at Ariscuser and the woman it has a funny voice.

[00:14:11] So all of a sudden you're going okay this mage, this rebel reject mage isn't a reject

[00:14:20] because their amazes are Ariscuser which is the home of the brotherhood of mage.

[00:14:29] Then get a really great scene there, where seemingly Tyrann then becomes possessed.

[00:14:39] So it's speaking in tongues or being manipulated by a third person.

[00:14:47] It's really good because it sounds like the woman with the funny voice and it morphs into a kind of

[00:14:58] a combination of that voice with a male voice as well.

[00:15:02] Most likely the mage who has tried to do this manipulation on Tyrann.

[00:15:08] And I just really liked how Tyrann changes and the voices are saying to Geralt,

[00:15:18] I am Seri's Destiny. And because his chaos then in Anacas home we have also who

[00:15:25] starts turning to where wolf. I love that I must say that a little touch of that

[00:15:30] felt like the exorcist. I felt like she'd been possessed and had realized that the best way

[00:15:38] of taking them all out was to take off this amulet that he's wearing to stop him from becoming

[00:15:43] aware of. And at just that moment where the camera turns to her and she's got this smile in her face

[00:15:47] like Reagan in the exorcist where she's like the demon possessed and going and I've also got

[00:15:55] another one up on you here, he's about to turn back into aware wolf. I think that's a little

[00:15:59] big powerful fight that could be happening in this room. We don't see the transformation

[00:16:03] Yes, Geralt stopped it before he transforms but you can hear the noises you can hear his body

[00:16:08] start to creak as if it's a bait to start shapeshifting into the where wolf to take them out.

[00:16:14] So though that was really a really good use of her in the scene. That thought that was really cool.

[00:16:19] Well I'd say it felt really good because it felt real danger in that moment.

[00:16:24] I looked like the interjection of that possession, as you say. And really helped. I liked that it

[00:16:33] how it got resolved quite quickly. I mean here at the end of the day, Clevver used not to have

[00:16:39] auto-transformers all aware wolf and also then also manages to get more of Anna because

[00:16:48] potion to Terren so that she's sedated again and that that can work. It's it's own magic to

[00:16:58] them do all this manipulation and mind control that has been performed on Terren. Yeah,

[00:17:06] but overall you're right this moment in the episode where we're learning more about

[00:17:12] the plus we're learning more about what's going on and who could potentially be behind

[00:17:17] it at all worked really well. We only got one scene towards the end of the episode with

[00:17:22] Reense and what we suspect is the one with the funny voice. It's the the made who can't talk

[00:17:28] because she had a face burnt. She can't speak so she uses telepathy to speak to people. So her voice

[00:17:35] comes across weirdly so to Terren this is probably talking about you. And that's the thing again

[00:17:41] those puzzles coming in a bit later. So in that moment you're going the woman with the funny voice.

[00:17:47] Who is that and then you get this scene. So you know these parts of the jigsaw

[00:17:51] start to come together. Which I really really enjoyed through this. I mean even in Rodania,

[00:17:59] you get elements here of maybe more of the mystery or more of the plan as well. But this has

[00:18:08] you know good amount of meaty substance here around you know who this mage is and most importantly

[00:18:16] that it is a binge residing in arduousa. Where yennefer is taking Siri too. So there's real danger here

[00:18:25] now for Siri. And I think the other side of this as I mentioned just right at the start here

[00:18:30] I actually really like the personal element that links into the the animation of you know with his mom

[00:18:37] and it you know get all sometimes there's always get a personal moment. Yeah absolutely. And in fact

[00:18:43] Derek said he even cries and and so on. But I just kind of liked the sentiment here as Geralt

[00:18:52] is speaking with Anakin after she's recovering from being flung across her house by the possessed her

[00:18:58] and you know asking how his mother who has died and you know Anakin is clear to Geralt

[00:19:06] you know she died badly and beat Nop and but Geralt you know is what it'll say

[00:19:12] actually because he says you know I didn't want her hurt. I just just to recognize what she did

[00:19:18] you know because she abandoned him and you know Anakin's point again I just was really nice kind of

[00:19:27] logic and reasoning behind it she says you know yes it wasn't the only choice she didn't

[00:19:34] have to abandon you but it was the one she made and that's where we are. You can't think

[00:19:39] about what other choices she made the word all the choices on that table that she possibly thought

[00:19:46] of what in that moment and that time the choice was for that was the choice she made.

[00:19:53] Yeah and you know and it brings him back to just reminiscing a bit about his childhood you know about

[00:19:59] she's smell to the the embers from the fire but he also remembers the hunger and also that you know

[00:20:05] he would have done anything to make a smile and a little tear trickles down and I then

[00:20:11] that's really important moment for Geralt as character in this show as well so I liked how these two

[00:20:18] elements came together in Anakin's home. Yeah really yeah absolutely it is it is great to get that

[00:20:26] kind of view into Geralt's life and what happened to him in the past we don't we haven't gotten much

[00:20:32] of that at all in the show so it is great to have those those at the moment and it's just

[00:20:37] entirely the overall kind of theme of the show as well. His mother died because she was beaten as

[00:20:42] he said but beaten because she went into a town and they believed that she was an elf so she was

[00:20:46] beaten because of that and that led her to her death. I like that again Anakin calls out that

[00:20:52] her mother never forgot the choice that she made you make choices to save your children then on the

[00:20:57] eight side you will constantly question and she may have questioned that until the day she died.

[00:21:02] Is how Anakin puts up which is a thought was quite an interesting way of talking about his mother

[00:21:08] and the choice that she made to be behind. Absolutely but the whole upshot of this now is that

[00:21:14] Geralt's and Yaskier are also on their way to Artoosa and with this information.

[00:21:22] I was wondering area on the episode as to why Geralt's brought Yaskier to me series version two

[00:21:30] I was kind of going hang on a second. Why does he need Yaskier here?

[00:21:34] I'm glad he's there because he's the one that stops the werewolf attack he's the one that

[00:21:38] that is able to calm down Terran together to knock her out effectively. He's also the one that

[00:21:45] came up with the idea about the source even though he didn't know that all good things that have

[00:21:51] happened but there's no particular reason why Geralt went and got him except he likes his travel

[00:21:56] in companion and in case he had to move on from Anakin's house to whatever the next destination is

[00:22:02] he takes a Yaskier with them from the the Tanya he's staying in basically. I think that's probably

[00:22:08] what it is now we need to go right there. Yaskier we're on the next stage of our mission and I'm

[00:22:13] not going back to get you. The other important thing is that that scene where Geralt is chopping

[00:22:20] the wood and you have the conversation with Yaskier in that moment, Yaskier tells Geralt about

[00:22:27] the deal that he has had with Dexter and Pipp and Filippa and his reasons for it to make

[00:22:37] serious safe. In a sense Geralt can agree why he's chosen that way.

[00:22:46] Yes, he comes across really rationally here. Geralt is a very rational man but because

[00:22:52] Yaskier's experience with him is that he's not very talkative and very brutal person. He

[00:22:57] probably thinks that the reaction from Geralt would be pretty bad to him saying he made a deal.

[00:23:02] They talk it quite rationally and it comes to a good conclusion that Geralt can see why he made

[00:23:07] the decision but if you think about it further, she'll never be safe with them.

[00:23:11] Although as Yaskier himself, Geralt is a hammer which is no use for dealing with the problem

[00:23:17] that is a bowl of porridge and on the flip slow to that, Redevid who we see him obsessing about

[00:23:24] is a spoon because that is perfect for porridge. Perfect for porridge. I think just on a side note

[00:23:34] interesting with Yaskier. Because I mean with Redevid, his motivation, his intention is still a

[00:23:41] little bit unclear to me. It's still a bit of a mystery, but Yaskier pulls a few threads there

[00:23:48] on that note and he is insightful, he's intelligent and he's sharp and he says,

[00:23:56] he can't meet Geralt because he's like a knife and a knife can't meet with Geralt. He also says

[00:24:03] you can't play a player. So he recognises that Redevid for whatever reason is a player here.

[00:24:11] Doing stuff and you see that with how Redevid interacts as well, even with Dykestra and

[00:24:18] Philippa. Yeah, exactly. So that was an allot good kind of moment around the Redevid character

[00:24:26] other than the crush and so on as well. Is it real or pretend? The crush or is he a damn fine actor

[00:24:38] effective? Well, I guess. As a character, is it possible to play if he is a player? Maybe,

[00:24:46] maybe but we'll find out pretty soon probably in the next episode that we're going on this podcast.

[00:24:52] We don't accept that because of a big mystery. But anyway, we will talk about it on this one,

[00:24:57] a little section there. Is that it for your big moment? It certainly is Derek. What is your big

[00:25:02] moment for episode three? You know, I could have picked a few big moments from this episode. But the

[00:25:07] one that will probably stay with me for a while is I'm going to call it staying ahead of the king.

[00:25:14] Rodinian intelligence take their opportunity to put themselves back on top of Rodinia.

[00:25:20] Where I guess Dykestra has always felt he belongs. He's the one that's worked so hard

[00:25:26] to keep the power there regardless of what king is sitting on the throne. And he feels that

[00:25:33] that the king and his wife, headwink are getting ahead of themselves. Are using the shockingly

[00:25:40] using their kingly and queenly power to make inroads into territory that he feels he should be the owner of.

[00:25:47] You know, they went behind his back and made an arrangement with with Nilfgaard. I was a consulting

[00:25:52] with anything else. We see King Vesimir effectively putting Dykestra in his place saying,

[00:25:59] you give me the information. I make the decisions. That's how that's how our relationship works.

[00:26:03] I don't need to consult with you and those decisions. You provide info. I make decisions. And

[00:26:08] that's it. All of a really interesting game of what seems like ball in peasant's face is not

[00:26:13] going to be the name of the game. But it's like a very small version of La Crosse where you don't

[00:26:18] use the goals you use the face of one of your servants. Yeah, although the king also was wearing

[00:26:24] one of the the face masks, the protective face masks and had a goal behind him in the same way as

[00:26:32] his opponent. And so I'm just thinking that actually Vesimir was supposed to be getting it into

[00:26:40] the goal behind the manhood. Found greater fun and enjoyment by hurling it at that man's head because

[00:26:49] you do what it's off camera but his final throw of this metal ball seems to suggest that that

[00:26:58] man didn't outlast this game of whatever they were playing. Well although Radha Vedou said he

[00:27:04] has three more shots to go when he cuts the game short to go off a major's wife or be with

[00:27:09] Green. So I don't know. I do. I do. I do. I do. I may have won three nil then because there was no

[00:27:16] one that alive to actually protect the goal. I just think it's like a slightly more enhanced

[00:27:22] including weapons version of the kids game who can hear each other harder. I'll go first

[00:27:27] as well I think it was like and the king gets ten shots before before his opponent gets shot.

[00:27:33] Balls back to Radha Nian intelligence themselves. Yes Ducks just taking this is a big

[00:27:38] big problem for the bottom of himself who's been working really hard to maintain their control.

[00:27:43] I like how this plays out there. They're plan and approach plays out. They want to use

[00:27:50] the prince route of it because they've been tasked with effectively shaperoning him all across

[00:27:56] the continent looking for Siri. They haven't come very far with that. And the way that they use them

[00:28:01] is they effectively take hadwigs had, take Queen hadwigs had put it in a box and in Radha

[00:28:08] Vidsru, man have Radha Vidsru to deliver it to the king. On announced to him he thinks it's a nice

[00:28:13] presence for the king. You know he probably thinks it's full of Fulweil or something. But

[00:28:19] that moment when the king opens the box and sees his wife's head until I'd and freaks out

[00:28:24] and runs out of the room I love the turn on Deeks Trotter. It's instant. It's instantaneous. The

[00:28:30] minute he looks shocked and the minute the king walks out of the room, the all pretends drops.

[00:28:36] He sits in the throne effectively eating the king's food. He's now back on top here and Radha

[00:28:42] is clearly shocked about this. He has some pair there and in the room he says I'll tell the king exactly

[00:28:51] what you did and then you'll be on the edge again and we'll take the pair back and Deeks Trotter says

[00:28:55] no no you're the one that brought the head to the room here. How do I know? You weren't involved.

[00:29:01] So Deeks Trotter again using all of his all of his strategies. So it feels like he's going to

[00:29:06] get what he wants out of this. The possibility that he is creating here is that Nilfgard actually

[00:29:12] made a play and killed the queen. That's going to be, well you can actually choose whoever he wants

[00:29:18] to to be the person responsible for this and set the king on his armies against them I guess.

[00:29:24] I have to say I love Rodanean intelligence which I think the partnership of Deeks Trotter and

[00:29:29] Philiper are just really, really good. There's also an element to me because of Rodanean intelligence

[00:29:37] I just think of team America with Central Intelligence and that intelligence. So but I really like

[00:29:47] these characters I love how they operate together. It's a nice little, almost comedic element here

[00:29:58] but also really meaningful to the story so I really like these two. I loved Deeks Trot putting

[00:30:09] a red-evid back in his place here and I was like you used to drink all the oil that you can

[00:30:19] if I need you I'll call you. I mean the only thing at the moment is you know,

[00:30:24] Philiper seems to believe that red-evid is more useful than actually Deeks Trotter's for sure

[00:30:30] and I'm wondering if that's time into somehow she is seeing sort of beyond what Deeks Trotter is

[00:30:38] a spoiled brat effectively and maybe is realises that there is a player or she understands his

[00:30:47] motivation or intent I don't know but I really like these three with red-evid Deeks Trotter

[00:30:56] and Philiper. I also like Vizimia I think he's a really, it's not that he is stupid but he's just

[00:31:06] almost eccentric a little bit. Absolutely but yeah I think in the same way he is that standard

[00:31:12] spoiled brat that became King and Prince Rattavid is the small brat that that's his brother so

[00:31:18] he doesn't have to actually even do any of the Kingly duties but it's the fact that he doesn't

[00:31:23] know how to play the game to use the game with friends analogy and again the King doesn't know

[00:31:28] how to play the game he doesn't know who you need to keep happy at court and he feels like I'm

[00:31:33] king I can do whatever I want that is not the case here certainly not in Rodania yeah and there's

[00:31:39] one of the things that comes out of these scenes here we see Philiper with the King's messenger

[00:31:43] her lover at the end of the episode where effectively we find out who the murder of the Queen is

[00:31:52] yeah we find that this is Philiper's lover that took her head except said have quite enjoyed

[00:31:58] a technical job but she gives her some more information kind of the piece together who

[00:32:05] Rience could be working for says that there is a mage backing him and the connection then

[00:32:11] connects back to Nilfgaard so whoever it is that's supporting Rience seems to be working since

[00:32:16] he mayage working for Nilfgaard. Yeah and also but it's even she mentions that MIA is using a

[00:32:24] mage which is unusual because he is effectively as not that he's anti mage but it seems like

[00:32:31] he has become Natalie doesn't like to use them because such as with Airfingerla being the

[00:32:39] wine tastester just make sure it's not poisoned and this mage is the woman with no voice

[00:32:47] because she's not speaking but using telepathy instead and could portal past the protection

[00:32:53] spells placed around the castle by Philiper yeah and but it's it's previously you know

[00:33:02] Philiper has been trying to track Rience as well and knows of the different energy of Rience's portal

[00:33:11] and as soon as her lover says it was dark black she immediately puts it that Rience works

[00:33:19] for Nilfgaard and but I like the fact that there's then this other scene where Rience is really

[00:33:24] sort of bemoaning the fact that he is working for Nilfgaard here and at his master's request

[00:33:33] and he's e that wasn't part of the deal exactly and but I love how she comes back to him saying

[00:33:40] that the master indicates that working with Nilfgaard is not the same as working for Nilfgaard

[00:33:46] so actually you know this and shadowy mage in the scenes it is proposing a lot of different

[00:33:56] people across the continent absolutely yeah that's it that's my big moment from the episode

[00:34:04] as I said there was a couple other little things under major things in the episode but that was

[00:34:09] the one that really stood to me as my big mum and then so and he notes on episode 3 I think

[00:34:13] I'll see what I'm talking about before we move on to episode 4. Yes just a big shout out

[00:34:17] to the shaperone given to Siri by Ianifer and at the Gengardy bank and it's just one of those

[00:34:25] things where I just really enjoyed this side character's moment in the world of the Witcher

[00:34:33] I just love the fact that he was laying into Siri all the way through you know you pound

[00:34:39] donuts like a truffle pig or you little ducks ass you know but then when you know Siri it is trying to

[00:34:50] the fight with the monster and in the market he kind of comes up and punches the owner

[00:34:58] of the monster in the face he's going to attack her and it's kind of quite chuffed with

[00:35:03] himself and he's like oh you know it's like Siri is open up this whole new world it goes

[00:35:09] I don't even know if I'll be employed anymore but I don't care like he's in the end it's turned

[00:35:14] out after being sort of given the job of shaperoning this kind of to his mind spoil Brad

[00:35:22] and he's actually quite enjoys it and it doesn't really care if he gets fired because he's just hit

[00:35:28] you know an owner of the big show in town which is around monsters but he doesn't care so I just

[00:35:35] was really nice little I just like a little character just flown in as the shaperone and with Siri

[00:35:44] mind well the name yes indeed and yes also just you know we do get um

[00:35:51] estrid here yes we do yeah we do in a font scene where he's got a thief that's going to find all

[00:35:57] of his items for him can't even get his name right doesn't really care

[00:36:01] I like to say ancient elven garbage that she has gone out to collect for him

[00:36:07] but he is looking for this a book among that yeah all on the mama with and but he's looking

[00:36:15] for this book and it went to artuse as well by the order of the white flame so again

[00:36:23] another little element of the puzzle here absolutely absolutely I really beg one that was

[00:36:28] only in one scene as a series escaping going back to to Geralt by on horseback we see the wild

[00:36:36] hunt arrive this is in the background all the time from from back to season one

[00:36:43] back to season two anyway um the wild hunt is coming and the wild hunt is coming for Siri we see

[00:36:49] these spectral forces coming down and they touch her you know you see hear your Siri reacting to it

[00:36:55] you know they're not realizing that that they'll be able to touch her and they're saying to her

[00:37:00] she is death so whether they want her to join the wild hunt I am right I think they know

[00:37:05] it's the other member of the apocalypse that they want they want Siri to to join them but it's just

[00:37:12] it's a very quick moment with them but again seem to be seeping into our world absolutely

[00:37:19] two of the mortals yes really really good yeah I mean for me I would give this full

[00:37:24] truffle pigs out of five I just really enjoyed the the puzzles starting starting to make sense

[00:37:34] on the table yeah and some of them put together and you know it really sort of drives the danger

[00:37:42] and the intrigue and the threat level for it's a really it thought there was a great amount of

[00:37:47] momentum from this episode absolutely absolutely and I think since I don't normally grade

[00:37:52] episode by episode we talk about every episode but probably since I was so critical of last

[00:37:57] three steps ahead confusing it is I just have to say this episode was so much better even though

[00:38:02] there was probably as many stories going on here more characters were were together in scenes that

[00:38:09] mattered in the set so we spent more time with each character and it just worked so much better

[00:38:13] as an episode so I enjoyed it so much more watching this episode also um when final notes just

[00:38:19] could see uh yes you're back with this pula who is throwing all of his crap out the last

[00:38:23] time we saw he's back there again they're still pushing and pulling against each other as

[00:38:29] this is and even when she's finding out that he's potentially got a crush on somebody else

[00:38:35] it could have gotten very amnors again before Geralt knocked on the door yeah so I like that

[00:38:40] I like that relationship good stuff yeah I think the only final thing would be the you know

[00:38:46] Siri and Yen really do argue quite badly in the same in the reason why she leaves the the

[00:38:53] village where they're at and she's then sort of ends up being chased by the wild humped and

[00:39:02] that's all down to Yen returning with majors from Arachuse including Tissia and you know

[00:39:14] they really treat her as a as a slave you know getting wine ordering her about also Trissia

[00:39:20] just wheat blood directly aso which I guess I would want to run away from that but it's not

[00:39:26] a good introduction for Siri to these majors who she thinks she's going there to get protection

[00:39:34] and in the end you know I guess there are some home truths uh sort of delth out in the moment

[00:39:41] between Siri and Yen that means she just ups and heads off using her talisman to try and get

[00:39:50] Geralt to come for her so it's a big element but you know just need to mention it I think yeah absolutely

[00:39:56] there's even even the moment between Tissia and Yen and for it wouldn't Yen is asking Tissia to train

[00:40:02] to train up Siri that she'll do anything to get Siri train she needs the option needs someone

[00:40:06] as powerful as Tissia and I love the Tissia turns during goes after everything you've tried

[00:40:12] everything you've done you find the become a mother that's some a huge moment in Yenifer's Ark

[00:40:18] Yen has pushed back against all of them for taking away your ability to have children tried

[00:40:24] every spell try their reposition to try and get the ability to be a mother back and now Tissia

[00:40:29] is saying to her this is what a mother does sacrifice his everything to give their daughter a better

[00:40:35] start in life so you are a mother now so loads of big moments as I said loads of things going on in the

[00:40:40] episode but much more focused um much better focused than the previous episode but we're not going

[00:40:46] to talk about everything else and it's a lot more to talk about that before certainly and she wants

[00:40:51] Tissia about the dark-nage backing re-ends yes she does yes she does good stuff we also have some

[00:40:56] feedback in from our wonderful fellow watchers yes we have an email in from coffee in vodka

[00:41:03] who says greetings fellow spectra rendering defenders a bit chaotic but held together via the

[00:41:10] themes of ties and loyalties it didn't take long to uncover the mystery of series lnd

[00:41:16] terren the beheading of the queen and the telepathic sorceress all rose lead to the mysterious

[00:41:23] puppet master the white flame or another player in the game. Yenifer is not back at a

[00:41:30] half hour before proposing a game-changing plan after her politically dramatic season to exit even if

[00:41:37] the idea of concave does sound good to say it would be wise to take it with a grain of salt still

[00:41:44] it all looks as if it's building to one hell of a crowded final conflict so far so fun looking for

[00:41:52] you'll take on the show so far for ripped off ring-raith we wivens and causes queens out of five

[00:42:01] piece and take her coffee in vodka. Thanks so much coffee in vodka. Actually I mean you are right

[00:42:07] I think there is a very much that that hurried quick step from season two the end of season two

[00:42:19] with what she's proposing here with the that with the end pitching her idea for a concave

[00:42:26] and without much consequence you know it. I don't think you're right there is a big acceptance of

[00:42:33] to see her here or of Yenifer and I guess they all closest to allies and so maybe that's part

[00:42:41] of this yeah it doesn't seem even though the previous episode was about unintended consequences

[00:42:47] and what you do and whether there's much consequence here for Yenifer at this moment.

[00:42:55] But yeah good stuff thanks coffee vodka. Absolutely the thanks coffee

[00:42:59] of vodka there is also the point that Yen is playing up to it a bit she says to Siri that

[00:43:05] you know you have to be the person that you're willing to accept to stay in a place like this. She

[00:43:10] is putting on a front in front of everybody to get what she wants here as well so she's probably

[00:43:15] being a bit more subservient then she would be naturally and that's what Siri's seeing in her

[00:43:21] her subservience to all of the rest of the witches around her that feels like something Siri wouldn't

[00:43:27] ever do right so yeah or feel as like she wouldn't ever but she hasn't been in the position before

[00:43:32] really they're protected from last they were later to learn on the road and push back and fight back

[00:43:39] she's not learning with other mages she's not learning with other witches with the girl side

[00:43:44] she's learning on the road so yeah I guess that Siri has a lesson to learn there herself.

[00:43:52] Good stuff thanks coffee vodka over on Facebook we got our message in from Dr Bob Phillips

[00:43:56] by the sub-sad who says things I didn't expect head and a box to say are being almost overwhelmed

[00:44:02] by cigarette low the barred showing more than a thin smear of intelligence and the re-ing in of

[00:44:08] the title being the trio of heroes almost or was that a version of the wild hunt is the new

[00:44:14] portal version going to be parod by chaotic horror is Siri's source the monoliths and she just needs

[00:44:20] a little slice to control her magic oh that's interesting yeah well she dropped power from the

[00:44:27] monoliths when she's uh when she's doing her magic when she finally gets terrored able to actually

[00:44:33] yeah because blood origins and talked about you know the the ancient hidden magic of dealing

[00:44:41] with monoliths as well which also probably links to this book that we saw in

[00:44:49] blood origins as well I guess this book on the monoliths that is just lucky for yes very good very good

[00:44:56] good stuff thanks Dr Bob thanks Dr Bob thanks Dr Bob thanks for the feedback keep sending it in

[00:47:18] and altoarist vigo yennefer convinces the brotherhood of sorcerers to host a conclave for

[00:47:24] mages to strengthen the unity of the north against northguard and later she visits the redanian

[00:47:30] court in person to invite filiper a heart and try to win the support of king vis-a-meh who orders

[00:47:37] not only filiper but dextra and prince rada vid to attend as well on her way back through the

[00:47:43] poorful to aratusa yennefer is ambushed by a creature that looks like garalt but she manages to

[00:47:49] escape upon reaching Francesca and the scoital kahir persuader to join forces in their search for

[00:47:57] seri on behalf of the emperor mia although mia believes the former mage of nilth guard from jilla

[00:48:03] is dead she has escaped and has enjoyed her newfound freedom in a local tavern there she learns

[00:48:10] about the conclave of the brotherhood of mages meanwhile tris and isstred investigate the missing

[00:48:16] aratusa in novices and the book of monoliths and similar to yennefer and garalt they arrive at

[00:48:22] the conclusion that strageble is the mastermind behind those events and is the mage behind re-encers

[00:48:30] meanwhile seri with yesca baby sitting are kept in a safe haven away from aratusa

[00:48:37] rid of it tracks yesca down and they kissed just as garalt yennefer and the northern mages gather

[00:48:43] at aratusa to begin the conclave with a spectacular ball yes the conclave of mages seems to be

[00:48:51] a big center point for the series i guess yes getting everybody back together and a very

[00:48:58] romantic kiss in the sepsid yesca and prinsoradavid find to get together after the couple of

[00:49:05] episodes where you knew there was definitely a connection between the two of them. Yeah absolutely

[00:49:10] there was that and also the kiss with between yennefer and garalt that's why which that scene

[00:49:15] in general was just really really good with yesca and seri riffing on what they were possibly saying

[00:49:25] and so i love that i did like how the paddling it removed from humour and then sort of immediately

[00:49:33] you know as they became a bit more intimate yes scared just get a little bit more serious before

[00:49:37] they pull it back to being humorous again and really enjoyed that scene yeah that was great

[00:49:42] that was great and yeah as the sage just lovely to see a rather than yesca get together as well

[00:49:46] so i thought i was lovely sitting there was really well really I played between the two of them

[00:49:49] I loved this idea that rather it couldn't get that song out of his head from yesca iris so he

[00:49:54] learns that even though he's a terrible loop player but uh but as yesca says maybe he can teach him

[00:49:59] to play loose yes as you said as you don't just see people you see the best in people

[00:50:06] love it and he's connecting with that sexiness i guess well absolutely but also you know this is

[00:50:12] a knock on effective what happened when we talked about an episode three that that moment in

[00:50:18] redania where effectively prince rathabas has always kind of been you know player in course you

[00:50:23] know nothing's gonna nothing's gonna bother me i'm in power or at least my brothers in power

[00:50:29] and all that rog is been pulled out from underneath as well so um the fact that he's able to

[00:50:33] reconnect with uh what yesca iris is obviously a major comfort to yeah i did like the fact as well

[00:50:39] he said i tried to knock but it didn't go well absolutely yeah and if it has put a protection spell

[00:50:45] on the hook uh properly knocked him back yeah quite a bit uh having a door that knocks you back

[00:50:50] is never a good thing as a noss as well i just wanted to how protected though given the last episode

[00:50:58] and Filipas in chantments so weren't good enough to allow that dark corrupted portal

[00:51:04] to make it's way through that protection so yeah that's very true that's very true the fact

[00:51:09] they keep mentioning it don't worry series safe i put a spell on it it's absolutely fine

[00:51:13] totally protected chilly ground till morning don't worry about it no one even needs to check

[00:51:17] don't go in and check and see if series okay before morning it will be fine

[00:51:22] yeah i would be worried i know she's a very powerful mage

[00:51:26] a very powerful witch um all the unif her bush uh i don't know i'm never i'm never too sure about

[00:51:32] if you continually repeatedly mention that that the person that's safe are they really safe

[00:51:36] that's not exactly but let's get into our big moments from episode four john

[00:51:42] what do you want to start for your big moment for the episode?

[00:51:45] at for me i've got the ferryman and the the ferry crossing across the uh the the the

[00:51:51] straight of water and as Geralt yes scared and Siri make their way to our accuser and

[00:51:59] actually really like this because in the context of everything else going on in this episode

[00:52:06] which i really like as well this felt like old school um the witcher and uh Siri they're

[00:52:16] taking on the the monster uh the eshner that has been um harassing the the ferryman open

[00:52:26] and i just kind of really like that but tinge within that action piece which i really enjoyed

[00:52:34] was you know it's a really nice moments here yes and firstly we have the oban sold the wild

[00:52:40] hunt coming down from the tower at aratusa and you know and talks of its meaning about

[00:52:48] war coming and but in the end is happy enough that that should be left to scoops say it's

[00:52:55] and so on yeah but he just says more than more he says it's destruction this is the death

[00:53:00] of everything people will be fighting this is annihilation this isn't just your standard war

[00:53:04] one kingdom against the other agree it will be all peoples against each other annihilation

[00:53:09] and i think he stands down and says i'll leave the suits there as when he sees series face

[00:53:13] and Geralt's reaction it's kind of like hang on a second don't talk in front of the kid about

[00:53:17] the wild hunt yeah and her bad it could be um so i think he's stepped back for that reason but i would say

[00:53:22] anybody else you probably would have continued that uh that conversation. No definitely so um you know

[00:53:26] i think the other side of this is we see that yask is competition uh valdo marks and his troop

[00:53:35] yes of uh singers and uh uh uh uh arrives here and i did these rivals to yask here um

[00:53:46] i just like how that play that you know they get the fair that's half price whereas um that the payment

[00:53:52] for all uh the three of them is that they have to kill a monster possibly in the imminent danger

[00:53:58] of death um i like that they do um their music which just feels more rockier you know valdo marks

[00:54:07] is you know you can't get yask is name right equals him yohan and jorma um it it it's all in the face

[00:54:18] of of yasker as they're loosing and singing their way around the deck of this fair amount

[00:54:24] but uh uh and have also gotten the invite to um i would choose to this conclaid the boy yes uh and

[00:54:34] yasker is there without any invitation uh whatsoever. Did they have a no better? No so i just i just

[00:54:40] really really enjoyed that aspect to it as well. Oh yask if corrections and nobody even told you

[00:54:48] no. I can't play clunk-claves going on i think i'm there for a completely different reason so i love

[00:54:52] the three makes up you know what i've got very important business uh from uh Jennifer uh she's the one

[00:54:57] that tells me and she's much more important to them than the one that hired you for the boy. Yeah exactly

[00:55:01] it's just so petty and uh but great at the same time. The other thing i like here is you know not only

[00:55:09] you have the hunting skills on offer uh on display by Siri uh on the eshner which you know she's good

[00:55:16] at that as well there is another really nice moment between Geralt and her as well um and you know

[00:55:25] Geralt giving a bit of sage advice you know you hear Siri saying well maybe i should use steel

[00:55:33] uh to keep um people in line and to enforce my will and he says just be careful um you know

[00:55:42] that right just no one doesn't become rage or justice becomes scorn and he goes through the

[00:55:48] stories says you know i'll take a job i'll take coin and from anyone you know for for monsters

[00:55:55] no matter where they're from or who they are and however a life has real meaning you know there

[00:56:01] is a warm and beating heart behind that so be careful how you approach this but he you know he

[00:56:08] tempers this um with if you want to be a queen you should and you'd make an excellent queen

[00:56:16] yes you know and Siri is really kind of pleased you know you can see the confidence that he instills

[00:56:22] and and yeah to the point where you know even that translates obviously to the hunting skills

[00:56:29] as Siri is the one that lands the killer blow absolutely and you know discussing through the

[00:56:35] weaknesses on the ashton for when it attacks um i did just really like that um attack on board

[00:56:44] i love that the monster just was really good it's even though it's let it's legs were also like

[00:56:50] arms as it clouched the sides of the boat as it was going around the sort of central cog in the ship

[00:56:57] as Siri and garrows are sort of putting blows on it but with with the final kill blow again

[00:57:07] there's a pride there from garrows seeing her make that kill on the monster and I like that she's

[00:57:13] new kind of looking up at him sort of recognizing that just as the green blood splatter at the end

[00:57:23] attack kind of goes over Siri's face i was really funny little touch and i think it's just more

[00:57:31] generally actually for this series there are these little touches here that i think are absolutely

[00:57:37] played for humour yeah and i really really like them because it's just nice little touches throughout

[00:57:45] and that was one that just stood out to you know for me so i really like this whole very man aspect here

[00:57:53] and i thought there was a lot of stuff around that fed into the episode as well yeah absolutely agree

[00:57:58] you know that the idea that they have this really annoying bar troop on board that are getting attacked

[00:58:03] by by the monster as well i thought that was quite fun just got to cut the line

[00:58:08] when they were arriving at aratusa and uh val the mark says to the first guy that was attacked

[00:58:13] oh you got hit on the head and then goes actually send more in key now yeah no thought that was

[00:58:20] quite funny yeah as well but there's a lot that is a lovely moment between uh between Geralt and

[00:58:24] Siri here on the boat as well you know she has another great moment with Yaskir as well where

[00:58:30] Yaskir is very complimentary about her and she's kind of gone wow this is the nice thing

[00:58:34] you've ever said to me you know um so i think people are treating her a little more as an equal

[00:58:40] in this season definitely she's definitely more active character this season her actually taking

[00:58:45] at the monster here uh aboard the ship is part of that but there is the other side of it

[00:58:50] have powerful series and the things that she's done that are affected the world early on we

[00:58:54] hear the explanation of the wild hunt from episode three that effectively by by um Siri opening

[00:59:01] of portals and going into other worlds she's left the door open on the way back yeah and which

[00:59:06] has allowed the wild hunt to come back in and effectively Geralt's explaining you know with

[00:59:11] you training of your paris and with you training of your magic hopefully that means you'll be able

[00:59:15] to do all of that and close some doors behind you as well exactly which I like and and also

[00:59:20] it's a little bit like a parent saying shut that door after you're exactly right there yeah

[00:59:24] and but and also him you know kind of you know after the argument between Siri and Yaskir

[00:59:32] and him saying that Yaskir will forgive you you know and she does as well you know that things

[00:59:38] were said in the heat of the moment you know Siri um wants to take some of those back

[00:59:44] because they you know she realizes they were on fur and it is worried now about her relationship

[00:59:51] with with the NFA but also really you know when they meet and all this forgive them and

[00:59:58] move done yeah as we kind of said um protection spell over the house that's fine everything

[01:00:04] grand she's just made really close friends with Yaskir she's made up with Yann and Geralt said

[01:00:10] the nicest thing to ever by saying that should be a great princess. Siri will be fine in that

[01:00:16] hey so alone okay it doesn't go as well doesn't it doesn't makes me makes me afraid anyway

[01:00:22] anything else on that point son. No that's all for me Derek what's your big moment from episode four?

[01:00:28] I think we have to talk about yeah for and the mage contemplative. It's a big moment for you know

[01:00:34] again even when she was going to um our she was saying that she wasn't sure either we're

[01:00:40] gonna take it you know they tried to burn her at the stake and didn't happen last time

[01:00:44] that she was back there and there still some resentment we still see uh straggable

[01:00:49] and Arturia Svigo beside him the two of them they kind of dissenting um back benches almost

[01:00:55] for the rest of the mage. Yeah then not happening now that criticizing everything that Yannifer

[01:01:00] says and even the support that she has from Tissia they're going well of course you support her yeah

[01:01:04] um you know but it's only as the rest of the the speech is delivered from Yann where she's

[01:01:10] saying you know we have the opportunity here to come together to come back as the brotherhood

[01:01:14] and be our best selves so that we can maintain some semblance of uh a power within the continent

[01:01:21] you know let the kingdom battle amongst themselves we don't need to be them we need to be the

[01:01:26] brotherhood again we need to come back together um so while there are those two dissenting voices

[01:01:32] they're unable to stop this conclave it's gonna go ahead she's gonna be able to bring everybody

[01:01:35] back together but we have some moments here with her talking to Tissia about it we we have a

[01:01:40] question as to why Tissia and Philipah um separated Philipah being the mage that's uh that's um open

[01:01:46] redenia um and Tissia kind of says aster you know the friendship around that's core spos um

[01:01:53] yes you're quite off hand yes yeah it's very off hand but Yann makes the decision that she's

[01:01:57] gonna go by portal to uh speak to Philipah directly um I love that scene as well she arrives just

[01:02:04] in time for the funeral of uh of Queen Headwake um and speaks to Philipah at the back of the uh

[01:02:10] at the back of the room and taginise in the king who's just lost his queen you know he's he's

[01:02:15] making a speech over it's also very funny if you read just the subtitles what the king is actually

[01:02:19] saying over the body of his dead queen um I have a re-back of it and notice what he's

[01:02:23] out what what his actual speech is uh about what the queen meant to him it's really funny but

[01:02:27] but he's completely distracted by the fact that Yannivers here kicks everybody in the court out

[01:02:32] and uh Yannifer goes to him to get him to send Philipah to the conclave and Yann hits on one

[01:02:40] little great note here she uses the death of the queen as a possible reason for um redenia

[01:02:46] to be worried and effectively turns dexterous plan on its head I guess him sent to the conclave

[01:02:52] along with Prince Rathabid and uh I'm Philipah who is a very tender target so uh it's all three

[01:02:58] of them said by the king uh just by Yann mixing things up a little bit exactly it was really good

[01:03:04] I have to say as the three of them are all mastering at the back of the funeral speech and from King

[01:03:13] vizemia I did I get it was another humorous moment it was like the naughty children at the back

[01:03:18] so literally and sort of getting caught out and and the ray you know Yann has a very at least

[01:03:25] in this episode Yann has a very good way um of diffusing the tension caused by herself

[01:03:33] or I am both in terms of the the the council of mages but also here then in in vizemia's

[01:03:40] uh own backyard and I mean actually you know you have to see her mentioning how you know she's

[01:03:49] actually good at politics here yeah you know and that was kind of a nice little touch here you know

[01:03:57] it kind of at least put some kind of basis as to why they aren't holding her to account I mean

[01:04:04] they are and they are at least a straggable and uh autoris are um you know everyone else is

[01:04:12] seemingly going along with uh to say a who you know thank you all so much for forgiving my past as

[01:04:18] Yann's great way of diffusing that much exactly and and to to say it as well you know like

[01:04:24] say she's a little off hand in this um you know not only does she um really sweep onto the carpet

[01:04:32] what happened between her and filiper but also we have another novice that has disappeared from

[01:04:40] aratusa yeah Elizabeth which has been noticed by triss and who is meeting istret um yes and they are

[01:04:49] now becoming worried about what is going on I'm telling you why and if I was in sorcery school

[01:04:54] I'd want one of my teachers to be like triss the one that notices that like scanner 15 different

[01:04:59] kids have gone missing from the school she mentions it to everybody says it to Tissia and she's like oh yeah

[01:05:04] don't worry about that everybody's been sent away because the convive she mentions it to istret

[01:05:08] and he's like ask your three three girls to uh disappear during my year in school as well they just

[01:05:13] couldn't hack us it's only when she looks up the book to find age who's been missing that she

[01:05:18] realizes everyone that's gone is half-fellfish half humans so there's definitely something wrong

[01:05:24] there right exactly and but also even to say er is told that there was blood on the on the wall

[01:05:33] like previously noticed by triss yeah so I guess we should get less accident prone uh

[01:05:40] young majors has had her reaction to it so um is that covering up something though no don't know

[01:05:46] but it's just she's becoming a little evasive yeah here I think ultimately is to say absolutely

[01:05:54] but that investigation and that moment to a triss it was a little no don't wanted to bring in anyway

[01:05:59] because I thought it was quite important I know you were like myself because we watched the

[01:06:02] episode together John we both looked down the list of names the book and instantly saw Terran

[01:06:06] in there the the girl who was impersonating uh Siri last episode so we as the audience now know what

[01:06:12] happened to these missing girls at least part of us because of what Geralt told us it wasn't

[01:06:17] until Geralt actually explained to Siri what had happened that I was able to kind of catch exactly

[01:06:23] what was going on so that that castle that he went to which had the three heads coming out of the wall

[01:06:28] and is where he found Terran those three heads coming out of the wall were also former students

[01:06:34] um who were kidnapped yeah that creature that was created of the body parts they were old kids

[01:06:40] that had been kidnapped and experimented on by this mage and the only one that survived was Terran

[01:06:46] and her mind had been broken by the experimentation donor so that makes that that scene from two

[01:06:52] episodes ago that makes it even worse and makes that even more um horrible what he's doing

[01:06:58] he's he's taking these people out of this this mage that we don't know yet is taking kids out

[01:07:04] experimenting on them until their death and then taking another kid kid I'm going to look at it

[01:07:08] now I like the Geralt tell Siri about those experiments and their intent to manipulate her

[01:07:14] and that you know she must be on her guard I you know that that's a good little touch in

[01:07:20] the episode yeah but yeah it does and it it feels like things are really you know the plot thickens

[01:07:28] and I mean even with uh trist meeting estrers you know even though they effectively come to

[01:07:35] you know the possibility of who the big bad is yeah you know it comes from them telling one

[01:07:41] another about the book of monoliths and the missing novices respectively and you know from their

[01:07:49] side you know their conclusion is that it's going to be used to banish these half elves

[01:07:56] and from the the continent and you have that nice moment of at least wrong with Geralt and

[01:08:01] Jenn who were Jenn is saying who hates me who experiments and children and both of them as well

[01:08:08] then identify it's straggable as the dark made she's backing re-enths so for very different

[01:08:18] reasons as people are coming to focus on straggable and certainly as you know the Jennifer

[01:08:24] making her case but again it's interesting it seems the obvious choice but is it simply

[01:08:34] he doesn't like elves you know it maybe or something doesn't like it yeah you know

[01:08:39] like it simply doesn't like it yeah so it's really really uh sort of intriguing and certainly with

[01:08:46] the assassination attempt on the end as well as the transports back from redania to our chooseer

[01:08:54] and you have the the portal being corrupted and then her being attacked by an illusion that

[01:09:01] looks like Geralt you know so you know again this is brings tris and Jenn together you know

[01:09:09] around the notion that something sinister it is going on here and it's dangerous to bring

[01:09:17] Siri here but there is some possible clue here with the dark stellar tell stellar site powder

[01:09:26] that Jenn has brought back from where she was attacked and tris and it's should do a

[01:09:35] locator spell to find the book on the monoliths through that stellar site where we get to see

[01:09:47] a elaborate rose kind of thing so I don't look quite what that means at this stage yes

[01:09:55] but seems to have set them on the path or strike a horror as well yeah it's an interesting one

[01:09:59] isn't it because he does seem very villainous it's the character that's always kind of

[01:10:05] been there and still against Jenn so you kind of assume it's him yeah but there's definitely

[01:10:09] the other possibility and I do think to say it seems to be absolutely yeah a possibility let's say

[01:10:16] maybe she's not being just dismissive maybe she is trying to cover something up about the

[01:10:21] the girls have gone missing you know it just seems a little elusive and you know and possibly

[01:10:26] suspicious in the circumstances as the audience you know I forget about blows on the walls

[01:10:33] I don't worry about them I know where they are and I'm one of about her partner as well

[01:10:40] a builder for yeah yeah I mean we see him you know in this episode where you know he's talking

[01:10:48] with the end but it's more about trying to protect to see her yeah and and her reputation that

[01:10:55] she's the one that has to clean up all the messes that Yenn makes and you know she's losing

[01:11:01] currency on the council yeah and don't do that and maybe you know I don't really

[01:11:09] I don't get the sense but I mean if he's possibly in league with to see it maybe he is

[01:11:16] that you know that's why he's trying to protect to see her by telling Yenn you need to make sure

[01:11:24] you clean up your own mess and you give her backing you know or it's just a way of convincing Yenn

[01:11:30] not to leave as well yeah they have her where they want her potentially if they are they are

[01:11:36] the ones in charge of all this they have Yenn where they want to have Siri where they want her and she's

[01:11:40] not going to run away in the middle of the night again like she did last time maybe that's what

[01:11:44] he's trying to do there and because remember he was the one that's the turned down his own men

[01:11:50] early around in the show right she's yeah that strange moment where he turned around and killed

[01:11:54] one of his own men so I still wonder there's something there but we don't know whether there's

[01:12:01] yes so I don't I just don't think it's a straightforward because everybody's what reached the same

[01:12:06] conclusion on straggable or I just don't think it's a straightforward as it being straggable or

[01:12:10] yeah agrees but it could just because the show's not finishing in two episodes times so

[01:12:15] so I feel like there might be something else in there and that was a very random at way

[01:12:21] and I think we covered almost everything in the episode in between mine and your point there

[01:12:27] a couple of the quick notes we see Dexter sending a rider to the naval headquarters to deliver a

[01:12:35] message we eventually hear what that message is later in the episode the messages that they need

[01:12:39] to bring reinforcements to arrive at our Tuesday after dawn and then we see that this rider was

[01:12:47] the rider that Siri had seen his future at the beginning of the series taking an arrow to his neck

[01:12:52] in she does which he does he takes an arrow to his neck and and dies not having delivered this

[01:12:57] message to to the intended reinforcements for for Dexter so firstly how will that play out of Dexter

[01:13:03] thinks he's going to be getting reinforcements and they don't come that's that's one thing but

[01:13:08] interestingly it plays into that discussion that Siri had with yeah in the bay using her visions

[01:13:14] and saving people at young told her at the time what happens if you save someone and you make

[01:13:20] the continent worse because you've only seen a small window of what's happened to them yeah

[01:13:24] because interestingly in this case Dexter gives the order to this rider before

[01:13:32] the invitation to come to our Tuesday absolutely yes yes very true very true so could it be

[01:13:38] that if Siri had saved this guy I need to deliver the message an army of Dexter's could have

[01:13:44] turned up at our truce to take her to get her from there yeah and so it's an interesting

[01:13:50] play on what happened back earlier on in the season but that's one of the things I do like

[01:13:54] about this season of the show it's it's really building on the previous episode so while we're only

[01:13:58] watching when episode is time as you get through the series you're learning more about things you've

[01:14:02] already seen which I do really like also also of the close out of the episode as everybody enters

[01:14:10] the the bowl we have this kind of recurring question that each group is asking to each two

[01:14:15] to themselves are you sure about this so we have Philophan Dexter arriving are you sure about this

[01:14:22] and the responses will we get answers and then we act yeah we have a truce an instrument arriving

[01:14:28] are you sure about this and they say we'll do this together to see a village

[01:14:34] before it's arrived they ask the question are you sure about this and they go not in the slices

[01:14:39] says to see it and then finally Geralt and Jan arrive at Jan asks are you sure about this and Geralt

[01:14:45] goes are you yeah of course because of Calcavist right answer but but I do love that that each

[01:14:51] each member of these four absolutely different groups come in with the same question they're

[01:14:55] great little touch the other episode definitely the only little note I've got is uh friendjiller party's

[01:15:01] hard i just a little I've seen i think in some respects it was possibly slightly unnecessary

[01:15:07] other than we hear that she wants to learn more about the missing ships that are going up and down

[01:15:13] the coast and so on as she's sort of listening about the conclaves that's what yeah yeah she's

[01:15:20] the big things she learned so yeah she's wanted to know about the conclaves but I like this

[01:15:24] friendjiller and that part is hard i love the fact that it opens up with her screaming drunk

[01:15:31] i'm not dead you'd think she wouldn't want to get anywhere near the alcohol after what she was

[01:15:35] put through but she obviously has a taste for it and again another just very funny little moment

[01:15:41] were the the two barmen are kind of talking and ignoring her so she's just filling up her

[01:15:47] ale glass with like rubies and then it's uh with with flowers and one of the bartenders just mentioned

[01:15:55] who keeps filling up these glasses with flowers as it goes to actually pull her a Northebutia

[01:16:01] like with this shucho for a second here's like the last a beer because the conversation that they're

[01:16:06] having is effectively because the conclaves coming they will no longer have any more ale in the local

[01:16:12] tavern because they're going to redirect all the supply up to our chooses so i'd go i know it's a

[01:16:17] really small thing but i like that they're even seeing what happens to locals when the local

[01:16:23] absolutely the local rulers i suppose almost are taking all the all the um all they're lightly

[01:16:29] holding taken all the all their stock definitely so i just really liked that scene as well and for me

[01:16:36] i i i think it's really again just driving forward in a really nice way i'm really enjoying

[01:16:43] the series actually overall even with i guess episode two feeling a little disjointers and so

[01:16:50] yeah i'd give this for another half sloppy drunks as a five very good that's why you have to mention

[01:16:56] the point to mention about fringer that could have wouldn't have it's that's the west well it's

[01:17:00] actually a phrase that uh Siri says as she i happen you know she recites like the argument about

[01:17:09] power hungry majors sloppy drunks and what i said to you yeah and you know so it comes from

[01:17:17] that but it is equally applicable to fringer in this case very good very good yeah enjoy that

[01:17:23] by was and yet overall enjoyed this episode can't waste for the next uh for the next episode

[01:17:27] of the final episode of this half of the season um i just think how it closed age with those moments

[01:17:33] of are you sure about this with each of the big groups it's a really good way of rising at the

[01:17:38] end of the episode so uh so can't waste for the next episode i had to hold off on pressing play

[01:17:43] on this last one good stuff we have benefit back in from coffee and vodka and email in from him

[01:17:49] uh he says greetings fellow sea fairer defenders this one seemed all the by it's dragabor it even though

[01:17:55] he's always been re-answer's patron i never had him payed as the big bad just seems too obvious

[01:18:00] nice to see the band back together though it does seem like the calm before the storm

[01:18:05] a storm in which i feel we might lose a main character i won't pretend to understand all the

[01:18:10] alliances real or temporary among the kingdoms but was a truse or always considered the enemy of

[01:18:15] radania or is this an over breaking of a treaty and now the fringer that now seems to be done

[01:18:21] a hand-to-handed mission to hardly wait to see her become part of the mix four paged mage meetings

[01:18:27] series sees a land of slings and mistral mashups out of five piece and take care coffee and vodka

[01:18:33] excellent stuff coffee and vodka and in terms of the over breaking of a treaty i'm really not too sure

[01:18:40] on that i think tensions between radania and the brotherhood of mages nerd because of

[01:18:48] yanifus release of kahi uh who in the faggin so i think it's coming from that so i don't think there was

[01:18:57] uh i don't know whether they were enemies or in that sense but uh i think i think it's like

[01:19:04] technically where they send a mage from a rachruse that to each of the kingdoms so it's not the original

[01:19:10] uh things of filipa is from a rachruse so they're not technically against rachruse that they're

[01:19:15] against as you say yanifus if they're supporting them and yan have an apologised to the king potentially

[01:19:21] would still have that so i don't think there's a trecey as such and i think because at least for

[01:19:26] radania it's so caught up with radani and intelligence you know that it's a bit of the the power

[01:19:33] play and the senses of power and rachruse it is a key centre of power which you can imagine for

[01:19:41] dextra who is wanting to make radania the power kingdom in the continent yeah not only is it

[01:19:49] nulf god but actually the the brotherhood uh it is in some ways problematic uh in different ways for

[01:19:57] him and certainly with having filipa it's not that he's against mages but he has a mages who is willing

[01:20:04] to be on the same pages him because i'm assuming of what happened between her and to see her

[01:20:11] yeah yeah absolutely so you know there's lots of intrigue there which i'm really excited about

[01:20:18] so maybe we'll get some answers in the uh in the fifth episode of the season and i'll click

[01:20:22] in there well next time we record good stuff thanks so much coffee vodka yeah thanks coffee

[01:20:27] we've all got a bit of feedback in from a doctor bob philips after we recorded a him over at our

[01:20:32] facebook group at facebook.com slash groups slash tv podcast industry uh Dr. Bob says in a room

[01:20:39] the size of khears why does he end up with a single bed i mean there's space big enough for

[01:20:43] at least a queen nice to see by the end that his sneaky disrepidable self is still very much

[01:20:48] an evidence though delighted with the return of monster of the week and the impressive witchering

[01:20:53] from Siri i think we're all proud of her the other thing that struck me is how the beautiful blue

[01:20:57] eyed archaeologist is wearing far better tailored clothing this season glad the continent is

[01:21:02] catching up with masculine fashions and that the concave will be an opportunity for show as well as

[01:21:08] oh yes Dr. Bob there's definitely going to be opportunity for some great costumes at the

[01:21:11] ball and yes isstrid did look fantastic yes it looked absolutely gorgeous um definitely very

[01:21:17] very very dapper in the in his new egg first yeah we loved it the same with Siri um taking on

[01:21:22] the witchering and showing her prowess as a as a fighter in this episode really cool uh as for khears bed

[01:21:28] i don't know it seemed like last minute uh decision to let him stay maybe it was just one of the

[01:21:32] side rooms um he wasn't given one of the best rooms in the castle maybe until he'd carried

[01:21:37] out his mission maybe the next time we see him um he'll be in a very nice room he'll get an upgrade

[01:21:42] thanks so much Dr. Bob for your feedback good stuff if you want to send an a feedback on this
