GEN V 201 New Year, New U Synopsis:
Months after being placed in captivity in the Elmira Correctional Adult Centre, Jordan Li and Emma Shaw are returned to the campus of Godolkin University, aka GodU, just in time for the new semester.
In the wake of Homelander’s new role as head of Supe Security following the death of Victoria Neuman, their records have been expunged and Jordan and Emma are being hailed as the Guardians of Godolkin again.
At God U the two awkwardly reintegrate but have to contend with seeing Kate and Sam, their former friends who helped to incarcerate them at Elmira.
Nonetheless, the new University head, Cipher, welcomes them back with open arms but he's on the lookout for Marie who has been on the run since she escaped from Elmira.
Following Marie's escape Andre Anderson also tried to escape the facility but died in the attempt. Kate only learns about this after reading Jordan's thoughts and seeks to find out more from Cipher but to no avail.
Elsewhere, trying to dodge the authorities, Marie encounters some of Starlight’s supporters being abused by Homelander fans; she can't help but defend them. But the incident draws out Starlight who tells Marie she must return to God U as it's the only safe place.
The incident also leads Jordan and Emma to her location followed by Cate. Cate tries to encourage Marie to return to God U but believing that Cate was going to use her powers to control Marie, Jordan uses their powers to throw her against a wall cracking her skull. As Cate bleeds out on the ground she desperately calls for Emma to save her.

01:38 --> 01:38 [DEREK]: That's all I'll say.

01:40 --> 01:42 [DEREK]: Welcome back to university, John.
01:42 --> 01:49 [JOHN]: Yeah, exactly, I mean, even if that was, I guess he's just going to do, but I guess he just drinks in reverse.
01:49 --> 01:51 [DEREK]: I think he does, yeah, yeah, I think that's his superpower.
01:51 --> 01:52 [JOHN]: Do you think he's got a mouth?
01:52 --> 01:54 [DEREK]: I don't even want to think about it.
01:54 --> 01:56 [JOHN]: You know like the Corinthian's eyes in The Sandman.
01:56 --> 01:57 [JOHN]: Maybe.
01:57 --> 02:00 [JOHN]: Maybe it's got teeth, so we can choose solids as well.
02:01 --> 02:06 [DEREK]: Got it, I just don't like to think about the details beyond the comedy moment.
02:06 --> 02:09 [JOHN]: It's digestive system works in reverse.
02:09 --> 02:12 [DEREK]: Yeah, I guess I would guess I like that's what makes him such a party guy, you know?
02:12 --> 02:13 [DEREK]: I guess so.
02:13 --> 02:16 [DEREK]: What a perfect week for Gen V to be returning joins.
02:16 --> 02:20 [DEREK]: You're also returning to your Alma mater back in Oxford this week.
02:20 --> 02:21 [JOHN]: I certainly am, yes.
02:21 --> 02:23 [JOHN]: The old reunion.
02:23 --> 02:25 [JOHN]: Okay, a goody.
02:25 --> 02:35 [DEREK]: Yes, we don't know what that means, and I'll go and go and go and be closing involves lots of lots of shiny non-diamond materials, but I don't think that you're going to be wearing gaudy clothes.
02:35 --> 02:36 [DEREK]: I'm a hope not.
02:36 --> 02:37 [DEREK]: No.
02:37 --> 02:42 [JOHN]: Some people may think, well, I'm wearing this little gaudy, but I think I look stylish.
02:42 --> 02:48 [DEREK]: I think out of the day itself are on the days themselves, you'll be wearing a lot of black tie and having lots and lots of fun.
02:48 --> 02:50 [DEREK]: So, looking forward to
02:55 --> 03:03 [DEREK]: In this case, we're getting a lot of reunions of the cast of Genevi, all the four members of Gidelken University, all returning together.
03:03 --> 03:11 [JOHN]: Yeah, absolutely, new semester, new day, some old faces, some new faces, and yeah.
03:12 --> 03:22 [JOHN]: really excited to see this back, you know, I guess any spin-off shows of a really loved property like the boys, you kind of like, oh, how is this going to work?
03:22 --> 03:24 [JOHN]: But they tied it in really nicely.
03:24 --> 03:25 [JOHN]: Yes.
03:25 --> 03:31 [JOHN]: So really looking forward to see how this evolves in season two.
03:31 --> 03:50 [DEREK]: Absolutely, and I remember the commitment that was given by Eric Krippky when he was coming up with the idea of the boys spin off Gen V, when he did season 1, and when the other showrooms were brought on board, that the whole plan was to come out of season 3 of the boys go into Gen V, come out of season 1 of Gen V, go into season 4 of the boys.
03:50 --> 03:55 [DEREK]: and then go in straight into season two of Gen V and that's definitely been kept up.
03:55 --> 04:06 [DEREK]: There's been some major connections that are even referenced in this first opening episode and then once this season finishes it will go into the final season of the boys which is coming hopefully next year.
04:07 --> 04:21 [DEREK]: Excellent stuff yeah like that a lot but this time we are only going to talk about the first episode of Of the boys gen v season 2 and there are two more episodes that have been released on prime video right now So you want to go and watch those afterwards.
04:21 --> 04:27 [DEREK]: We're not going to talk about them on this podcast at myself a crystal Hope you back later on on the week to talk about those two episodes
04:27 --> 04:28 [DEREK]: so get your feedback into us.
04:29 --> 04:40 [DEREK]: If we'd love to hear your thoughts about all three episodes of the show, you can email us two feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com or pop on over to our Facebook group at facebook.com slash groups slash tvpodcast industries.
04:40 --> 04:40 [DEREK]: We're over there.
04:41 --> 04:43 [DEREK]: There is a spoiler post up for each of the three episodes right now.
04:44 --> 04:59 [JOHN]: Yes, and of course, fellow boys and girls, a quick reminder, we will be beginning our Genvy student bar quiz with a question later in the episode of this podcast, but
05:00 --> 05:24 [JOHN]: As always, remember to gather up all the answers to the questions from each of the episodes which we will recount on the podcast for that episode and send all of them in by email tours at feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com to be in a chance to win some Gen V goodies but we'll get into more of that later when we give the first question to the Gen V student bark
05:25 --> 05:39 [JOHN]: I think one of the things before we get into our spoiler-filled review as well here is and you'll see this at the opening credits of Gen V episode 1 is dedicated to
05:45 --> 06:12 [JOHN]: and I think we mentioned it previously on another podcast but he passed away in a motorcycle accident there just before season two started filming so you know his his memory his presence I can't looms large really in certainly this episode of Gen V so far and we'll see what that means for season two
06:14 --> 06:22 [JOHN]: Then had to be, you know, some pivoting going on, at least with the writing and so on because of that tragic accident.
06:22 --> 06:28 [DEREK]: Yeah, I believe some of the cast were already on set ready to start filming their scenes for season two when the news broke.
06:28 --> 06:32 [DEREK]: So, unfortunately, there has been changes.
06:32 --> 06:35 [DEREK]: Had to be made, of course, when a real life death happens, they have to adjust.
06:35 --> 06:41 [DEREK]: But I'm glad they're not just ignoring them or recasting and they have made reference to it and they are mentioning it.
06:42 --> 06:48 [DEREK]: throughout this episode, and we will talk about it as we get into our major points for the show, but RIP chance for Derma.
06:48 --> 06:49 [JOHN]: Yeah, absolutely.
06:50 --> 07:00 [JOHN]: So with that, let us get into our spoiler-filled discussion of episode one of the second season of The Boys Gen V, New Year, New Year.
07:07 --> 07:12 [JOHN]: Derek, who gave us what were when and how for this episode?
07:12 --> 07:16 [DEREK]: Well, the show was developed by Craig Rosenberg and Evan Goldberg with Eric Rippky.
07:16 --> 07:24 [DEREK]: It's based in the comic book series, of course, The Boys by Garth Ennis and Derek Robertson, Executive Producer for the show, R-Sethrogan and Evan Goldberg.
07:24 --> 07:33 [DEREK]: This episode was written by Ellie Monahan, who worked three episodes of The Boys in the past, at the first episode, seven and season one, episode five and season two, and episode five and season three as well.
07:33 --> 07:36 [DEREK]: So prolific writer for the boys.
07:36 --> 07:40 [DEREK]: up until moving over to the boys' gen V. Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
07:40 --> 07:42 [DEREK]: The episode was directed by Steve Boyam.
07:42 --> 08:03 [DEREK]: We've mentioned Steve before, he directs episode two as well, but he used to do stunts in movies, including the Blues Brothers, and the top lips, and now back in the day, he's been directing TV for a number of years now, including nine episodes of Supernatural with, of course, Eric Kripke, he also directed the boy's season two episode five over the hill with the swords of a thousand men, which I mentioned there, was written by Ali Manan,
08:04 --> 08:22 [DEREK]: also directed Gen V episode four the whole truth last season as well so staying on board with this family production as always seems to be the case with with uh... or kripp kripp productions great stuff yeah yeah john do you want to tell us what the game is whether it's an opses for the first episode of gen v he's into sure
08:23 --> 08:37 [JOHN]: Months after being placed in captivity in the Elmira Correctional Adult Centre, jointly and MSHOR are returned to the campus of Gaudolkin University, aka Godju, just in time for the new semester.
08:38 --> 08:52 [JOHN]: In the wake of homeland as new role as head of suit security, following the death of Victoria Newman, their records have been expunged by the Gaudolkin Commission, Jordan and Emma are being hailed as the guardians of Gaudolkin once again.
08:53 --> 09:02 [JOHN]: I got you the two awkwardly reintegrate, but have to contend with seeing Kate and Sam, their former friends who helped to incarcerate them in Elmira.
09:02 --> 09:12 [JOHN]: Nonetheless, the new university head, Cypher, welcomed them back with open arms, but he's on the lookout for Marie, who has been on the run since she escaped from Elmira.
09:13 --> 09:19 [JOHN]: Following Marie's escape, Andre Anderson also tried to escape the facility but died in the attempt.
09:20 --> 09:26 [JOHN]: Kate only learns about this after reading Jordan's thoughts and seeks to find out more from Cyther, but to never fail.
09:27 --> 09:34 [JOHN]: Elsewhere, trying to dodge the authorities, Marie encounters some of Starlight's supporters being abused by homeland of fans.
09:34 --> 09:36 [JOHN]: She can't help but defend them.
09:36 --> 09:38 [JOHN]: But the incident draws out Starlight.
09:38 --> 09:43 [JOHN]: He tells Marie, she must return to God's you as it's the only safe place for her.
09:44 --> 09:47 [JOHN]: The incident leaves Jordan and Emma to her location followed by Kate.
09:48 --> 09:58 [JOHN]: Kate tries to encourage Marie to return to God's Jew, but believing that Kate was going to use her powers to control Marie, Jordan uses their powers to further her against the wall, cracking her skull.
09:58 --> 10:03 [JOHN]: As Kate bleeds out on the ground, she desperately calls to Emma to save her.
10:03 --> 10:08 [DEREK]: Oh, and fate to black at the end of that moment, um, as all the Gary and the of Gidelken are
10:12 --> 10:13 [JOHN]: No, absolutely.
10:13 --> 10:17 [JOHN]: You know, it's massive, massive thing at the end, really.
10:17 --> 10:22 [JOHN]: I mean, I have a feeling she's not dead because we don't hear them say, oh, she's dead.
10:22 --> 10:24 [JOHN]: Um, boss.
10:25 --> 10:31 [JOHN]: Um, yeah, it's, it's a, it's a good old cliffhanger to have at the end of episode one.
10:31 --> 10:32 [JOHN]: For sure.
10:32 --> 10:33 [JOHN]: Absolutely.
10:33 --> 10:33 [JOHN]: Absolutely.
10:34 --> 10:55 [JOHN]: and but shall we get into our interesting moments from this episode of freshman or small moments or sophomore or medium moments and of course I'll see you near a moment as well you know a senior in college or university is much younger than you know I know I'm playing on the word I thought you might be
10:56 --> 11:01 [JOHN]: Um, honestly boys and girls and pensioners.
11:02 --> 11:05 [JOHN]: Yes, let us get into our freshman moment then.
11:06 --> 11:07 [JOHN]: Derek, what's yours?
11:07 --> 11:12 [DEREK]: I'm going to start out with the introduction of Dean Cypher here, our new Dean for God You.
11:13 --> 11:20 [DEREK]: He's taking over from the previous Dean, a human who was running the experimentation underneath the grounds of God You.
11:21 --> 11:31 [DEREK]: We kick this off as he comes out to the crowd on the return of Emma and Jordan to school, where he's basically telling everybody there, as kind of is, um,
11:32 --> 11:39 [DEREK]: The usual for the boy's universe, he's a leader in a big organization and he's telling everybody that soups are that should be
11:40 --> 11:46 [DEREK]: held to a higher, um, not standard, what would you say, held in a higher regard, uh, by everybody.
11:47 --> 11:51 [DEREK]: And he's dedicating himself to ensuring that the school is run by soups for soups.
11:52 --> 11:58 [DEREK]: Uh, played here wonderfully by, um, Hamish Link later, who I know we remember from, uh, from midnight mass.
11:58 --> 12:04 [DEREK]: He was absolutely brilliant out there, uh, as a priest, uh, who I'm not going to talk about anything that happens over there.
12:04 --> 12:05 [DEREK]: Go watch me in that mass, it's brilliant.
12:05 --> 12:09 [DEREK]: Uh, of course, he's playing the, playing the Dean here, other, uh, figure of authority.
12:11 --> 12:13 [JOHN]: Yeah, no, this is really good really intriguing.
12:14 --> 12:27 [JOHN]: This new dean, you know, certainly a divisive type of guy, you know, you have, you know, make America super again, you know, humans and racetrakers like Starlight must pay.
12:28 --> 12:34 [JOHN]: So, you know, he's certainly not sort of holding back on his divisive and Charles rhetoric that he
12:36 --> 13:02 [JOHN]: giving to the students of Codolkin, so yeah, I mean an interesting character, I think also he's one of the scientists that we see at in the lab, but also we do get a glimpse of him from a flashback from Jordan and Emma, where he's also at the almyra facility as well.
13:02 --> 13:07 [JOHN]: where Jordan, Emma, Andre, and Marie have been locked up.
13:08 --> 13:25 [JOHN]: So he's very much sort of integrated sort of linked in here to all the shenanigans of Gaudolken and its testing program, and also the students.
13:25 --> 13:30 [JOHN]: So be interesting now to see how he sort of,
13:32 --> 13:37 [JOHN]: goes around with being the sort of dean of a good-alking university.
13:38 --> 13:51 [JOHN]: Absolutely, you know, certainly, you know, has a great scene a bit later, which I think we'll speak to in a one of our other moments with Kate as well, which is making a smoothie, which is all quite nice.
13:51 --> 13:51 [JOHN]: Absolutely.
13:52 --> 13:53 [DEREK]: Absolutely.
13:54 --> 13:54 [DEREK]: But...
13:55 --> 14:04 [DEREK]: The only other thing I want to mention about Dude Cypher is Cypher is just the promotional video that he's playing at the beginning of the episode because again he's getting his rhetoric across even in there.
14:04 --> 14:10 [DEREK]: He's saying, you know, it's all in loving memory of Victoria Newman, they're rewriting that whole story that what happened with her.
14:10 --> 14:15 [DEREK]: and all the other people that have died over the course of the last season of the boys really.
14:15 --> 14:23 [DEREK]: And then saying, you know, things like come on ahead and join a place outside the woken gender where you can be yourself and be surrounded by other soups.
14:23 --> 14:26 [DEREK]: So yeah, so we know where he stands, let's say.
14:26 --> 14:27 [JOHN]: Yes, exactly.
14:28 --> 14:28 [DEREK]: Yeah.
14:28 --> 14:31 [DEREK]: Let's see who else have we got in there in our minor moments for the episode, Jen.
14:32 --> 14:45 [JOHN]: Am I just saying, for me, it's the new PR lady for Goldjuke, and should keep saying, and watch the tale or the sting, and so I'm calling her be lady at the moment.
14:45 --> 15:08 [JOHN]: but she seems to be the one dealing with the PR and the reintroduction of Jordan and Emma back into the semester and the new semester and Kodolkin and so I just wonder whether she will become a gemby is actually barris in a sense she just felt very similar cut from the same PR school
15:08 --> 15:15 [DEREK]: well definitely like Ashley Barrett in the first season who seems really happy to have her job and then by the end of the first season she was pulling guys all over her hair.
15:15 --> 15:22 [DEREK]: So yeah, it's possible here to say that be lady for P or at might be pulling out her hair but that's what she's saying.
15:22 --> 15:29 [JOHN]: Like I mean be or maybe wasp or hornet something like that but she keeps saying mind you know watch the tale mind
15:31 --> 15:34 [JOHN]: So I just want to know, you know, will she have a potentially fatal sting here?
15:34 --> 15:36 [JOHN]: I'll go get you a mess with her.
15:36 --> 15:37 [JOHN]: She stings you.
15:37 --> 15:38 [DEREK]: Yeah.
15:38 --> 15:46 [JOHN]: Equally, has she got wings somewhere or, um, you know, who knows what they might do with, um, be lady.
15:46 --> 15:47 [DEREK]: Absolutely.
15:47 --> 15:49 [DEREK]: I just realized I have her name in my note.
15:49 --> 15:50 [DEREK]: It's Stacey Ferrerra.
15:50 --> 15:51 [DEREK]: Uh, is her name.
15:51 --> 15:54 [DEREK]: So, uh, so not Ashley Ferrerra.
15:54 --> 15:56 [DEREK]: Uh, we would have been quite funny if they called her Ashley as well.
15:57 --> 16:03 [DEREK]: That's as to make that connection even bigger, but I know obviously there are about three Ashley's already in the and the P.O.
16:03 --> 16:06 [DEREK]: company for, for, um, vault industries.
16:06 --> 16:07 [JOHN]: So, Exactly.
16:07 --> 16:16 [JOHN]: And I mean, I think you could kind of in, in our freshman moment, you could, you could talk about a lot of the, the new introductions, you know, there is, uh,
16:22 --> 16:42 [JOHN]: Great less for character than a joke, because it's a great joke because he does live in you know one of Goodolkins fraternity So I'm hoping we see him again and he's used It we're in another sort of weird and wonderful way so you know you could also include Bunchroger here in The freshman moment
16:42 --> 16:45 [DEREK]: maybe, but maybe it's just Jordan has taught him a lesson.
16:45 --> 16:51 [DEREK]: I think the reason why he's increased stacey the pure person as just her line when Jordan never arrived.
16:51 --> 16:59 [DEREK]: And Jordan goes, I will never sign anything that you put in front of me and she instantly responds with, okay, back in the back of the bus, then, as I said, do you want to go to the toilet before you get back on the bus or what?
17:00 --> 17:02 [DEREK]: And then, I guess, give me it side us.
17:03 --> 17:05 [DEREK]: I'm not going back to that place again, so yeah.
17:06 --> 17:07 [DEREK]: But that kind of takes us all into our
17:11 --> 17:25 [JOHN]: It is the release and return of Jordan and Emma here, I mean, because, you know, it's quite nicely done where you don't quite know where they're being taken to from the almyra facility.
17:25 --> 17:26 [JOHN]: Yeah.
17:26 --> 17:38 [JOHN]: And you do wonder is it back to some kind of laboratory, because we see them at the end of season one where they're effectively in a windowless experimental cell.
17:39 --> 17:47 [JOHN]: but instead when they open up, you know, it is that moment of new windows on the van either.
17:48 --> 17:52 [JOHN]: So that when it actually opens up, there are surprises we are to see that they have a
17:55 --> 18:09 [JOHN]: could all can universe and you know they're met by Kate of all people who is their previous friends but ultimately it turned against them in a way because she thought that was helping and so I kind of like
18:10 --> 18:32 [JOHN]: The, for me, this is just the release and return back to Gaudolkin, which is kind of predicated on the fact that there has been a huge committee and investigation here, and ultimately the Gaudolkin committee has judged that Jordan and Emma are innocent of the charges that have been brought against them originally.
18:33 --> 18:34 [DEREK]: Is there a huge committee or does home land
18:36 --> 18:38 [DEREK]: They are members of the soup society.
18:38 --> 18:40 [DEREK]: They have food back on campus.
18:40 --> 18:41 [DEREK]: Who knows?
18:41 --> 18:41 [DEREK]: Squash every.
18:41 --> 18:43 [JOHN]: It could absolutely be that.
18:43 --> 18:44 [JOHN]: And certainly as well.
18:44 --> 18:47 [DEREK]: And you keep them under control, I think, is probably the other question.
18:47 --> 18:50 [DEREK]: You keep them under control, then bring the back to Godgia.
18:50 --> 18:54 [JOHN]: And Dean Saifah has an element of interest in them as well.
18:54 --> 18:55 [JOHN]: So that's kind of interesting.
18:55 --> 18:58 [JOHN]: So, you know, they're releasing return to the
18:59 --> 19:02 [JOHN]: holes in at Gadolken.
19:02 --> 19:04 [JOHN]: It's this awkward reunion.
19:04 --> 19:18 [JOHN]: I mean, there is a see you next Tuesday moment from Jordan to Kate, where he says read my mind because, you know, this is where she finds out that Andre and has
19:20 --> 19:41 [JOHN]: dies and it's also where she realizes that Marie has escaped and that's the reason why it's just the two of them here at this moment and you know she asks where Andre and Marie are but I do like you know Jordan is very frosty towards Kate and Sozama and it's very awkward that kind of reunion.
19:43 --> 19:57 [JOHN]: And I think, you know, it's to the point that it doesn't really thought throughout this episode, hence the ending where you have Jordan stepping in to protect Marie later on.
19:57 --> 20:09 [JOHN]: And so I just think this is really interesting for the show, just to have these people living side by side at the start of a new semester,
20:10 --> 20:24 [JOHN]: Pretending as though nothing awful has really happened and I mean also the ideas the reason for them being released back and being exonerated by the commission and I
20:25 --> 20:29 [JOHN]: You know, is it a trick and a trap in some way?
20:29 --> 20:38 [JOHN]: Is there something here that good-all can university or, or more significantly, what want from them?
20:38 --> 20:41 [JOHN]: Um, you know, is it simply to sort of,
20:42 --> 21:03 [JOHN]: knowing that Maria is on the wrong as it's a draw Maria or you know what is the reasoning really behind this or as you say is it just simply home and it is well people were experimenting on soups and you know they played a part in uncovering that
21:03 --> 21:04 [DEREK]: Yes.
21:04 --> 21:04 [DEREK]: Yes.
21:04 --> 21:05 [DEREK]: Absolutely.
21:05 --> 21:21 [DEREK]: Again, not enough right now to know one of the cool things about the boys' universes, how they use, how they use Pior and how they use the press and how they use the influence that's supposed to be of home land or in his supporters to guess everybody that they want out of sticky situations.
21:21 --> 21:22 [DEREK]: There's always that twist to think
21:23 --> 21:28 [DEREK]: they've backed themselves into a corner and then they've found a way out of this completely.
21:28 --> 21:31 [DEREK]: So, always very interesting to see how they start off.
21:31 --> 21:32 [DEREK]: And you season the show definitely.
21:32 --> 21:40 [DEREK]: I absolutely did not expect that first day of college that we'd have everybody going back to school, apart from Maria, of course, in an online tripod.
21:40 --> 21:45 [DEREK]: Everybody else back at college ready to go for their new year of university.
21:45 --> 22:00 [DEREK]: One of the other really awkward reunions that we see is Emma on stage with her mom, who we know they were having a really bad time in their relationship because Emma was asked her mom for teaching her effectively to throw up to control her size.
22:00 --> 22:05 [DEREK]: So the two of them are turning her into a bulimic basically, which was their big relationship issue last season.
22:05 --> 22:12 [DEREK]: And also Jordan has a massive problem with their mom and dad for trying to force Jordan to pick a gender as his father etc.
22:13 --> 22:21 [DEREK]: So you see it's here when they're reuniting on stage and Jordan's father reaches out to them with his hand and Jordan instantly goes if you don't take that hand away, I'm going to break your fingers.
22:22 --> 22:31 [DEREK]: So, instant push away but quiet enough that nobody would hear it outside of the intended target of their mum and dad.
22:32 --> 22:33 [JOHN]: Well, that's it.
22:33 --> 22:42 [JOHN]: And I mean, also should say, you know, the awkwardness of these reunions, I'm not just confined to the parents all to Kate.
22:42 --> 22:44 [JOHN]: We do have Emma seeing Sam.
22:45 --> 22:45 [JOHN]: Yes, no.
22:45 --> 22:49 [JOHN]: Effectively, they were very close and it doesn't go well at all.
22:50 --> 22:53 [JOHN]: Again, she informs Sam, you know, that
22:54 --> 22:55 [JOHN]: Andre has died.
22:55 --> 23:05 [JOHN]: And I kind of like the fact that after that we see Sam going to Kate to try and get confirmation of it.
23:05 --> 23:15 [JOHN]: And instead she really just uses her powers to, you know, in inverted commerce, soothe him down and telling him to feel nothing.
23:15 --> 23:17 [JOHN]: Like she is effectively
23:20 --> 23:22 [JOHN]: And that's what she does.
23:22 --> 23:23 [JOHN]: It allows him not to feel.
23:23 --> 23:29 [JOHN]: We saw that the end of season one was to why he turned against and the people that were trying to help him.
23:29 --> 23:40 [DEREK]: Yeah, and we saw that the end of season four of the boys, where it was case and and Sam that took care of Camico and and French he was holding Camico back while case.
23:41 --> 23:43 [DEREK]: used her powers on French and put him in the back of a van.
23:43 --> 23:53 [DEREK]: So here they are back in college, but they provide a pivotal role in the voice, take down of the boys at the end of the half season for themselves.
23:53 --> 24:02 [DEREK]: So it's interesting to see him still being cood and suathed to suppose almost by by case and still being under that spell of making sure he doesn't feel anything.
24:02 --> 24:06 [DEREK]: But it does look like Emma has a bit of a way in with his mind.
24:06 --> 24:06 [DEREK]: It's not like
24:08 --> 24:15 [DEREK]: Once she tells him about the death of Andre, it seems to slightly break, that can pull the catas over him, so it doesn't look like it's permanent.
24:15 --> 24:17 [DEREK]: It looks like she has to kind of top it up.
24:17 --> 24:19 [DEREK]: Yeah, agreed.
24:19 --> 24:25 [JOHN]: Yeah, so also with Emma, she does go to see Andre's dad and polarity.
24:25 --> 24:35 [JOHN]: She goes there to ask him about Cyther to say that, you know, he was the at El Mera and the facility where they were held and that something is going on.
24:36 --> 24:39 [JOHN]: Um, and he's kind of really messed up.
24:39 --> 24:40 [JOHN]: He's lost his son.
24:40 --> 24:41 [JOHN]: Yeah.
24:41 --> 24:48 [JOHN]: And he's basically his advisors leave the school and stay clear of vote.
24:48 --> 24:58 [JOHN]: And, you know, this really upset so that he's not going to kind of pursue and these lines of inquiry that she's kind of coming to him with.
25:00 --> 25:07 [JOHN]: You know, she does ultimately get quite Terry, but her passing shot to him is that Andre wouldn't have given up.
25:08 --> 25:14 [JOHN]: And so, again, we'll see how that resonates or not with Mr Anderson.
25:14 --> 25:22 [JOHN]: So, you know, there's a lot of these kind of awkward moments and reunions as Jordan and Emma.
25:22 --> 25:28 [JOHN]: I'll return back into the world of good ol' can universe.
25:28 --> 25:32 [DEREK]: And I think in a similar way, my medium moment for the episode is Kate's alliances.
25:33 --> 25:44 [DEREK]: You could easily believe that by the end of season four of the boys, and by the end of season one of Gen V, that Kate's in a really good position, and everybody's completely unbordered, and she's in a really strong place.
25:45 --> 25:47 [DEREK]: But no, they just used her for a Paris.
25:48 --> 25:48 [DEREK]: You know, she...
25:49 --> 26:03 [DEREK]: is telling the kids that were returning Jordan and Emma that that she was doing all of this to keep all of her friends alive and make sure that she was helping them in their quests and they instantly reject her.
26:03 --> 26:08 [DEREK]: At right, Sam's coming back to her finding out about the death of Andrea.
26:08 --> 26:11 [DEREK]: Remember, Andrea and herself were boyfriend and girlfriend.
26:11 --> 26:13 [DEREK]: They were together for a very long time.
26:13 --> 26:18 [DEREK]: So she has lost a loss when she finds out that Andrea has lost her arm as well.
26:19 --> 26:26 [DEREK]: Yeah, she obviously does another habit, but she goes to visit Cypher, trying to persuade him to be on her side.
26:26 --> 26:32 [DEREK]: He has a way to defend against her using her other hand to convince him to do what she wants to do.
26:33 --> 26:36 [DEREK]: And that is just grab it and stick it inside a blender, basically.
26:36 --> 26:40 [DEREK]: So yeah, I don't think Kate will be trying that again at any time soon trying to...
26:41 --> 26:42 [DEREK]: I don't think so.
26:42 --> 26:56 [JOHN]: I think this confrontation between Kase and Saif is really kind of revealing because Saif is quite calm and she does sort of methodical around his approach to Kase.
26:56 --> 27:03 [JOHN]: You know, she thinks because of her powers that she's got one up on him really and
27:09 --> 27:28 [JOHN]: Well, give her home under a call and we'll see what he thinks, you know, he kind of resets her view of her power really and how powerful she is that you know, and in the end he does think she's weak and
27:29 --> 27:42 [JOHN]: he's after he has threatened her good hand with being blended, you know, says if you're going to be of any help find Marie Monroe, you know, that's what he's looking for.
27:42 --> 27:49 [JOHN]: And so that confidence, you know, I'm guessing it'll be really interesting to actually see
27:52 --> 27:53 [JOHN]: his power.
27:53 --> 28:13 [JOHN]: I'm guessing with Cypher it's like you have a Cypher to sort of work something out that he's very perceptive of other people who's able to decipher them and sort of break them down in order to give that opposing argument or to win people around or whatever it might be.
28:13 --> 28:15 [JOHN]: So I guess he's a very persuasive um
28:17 --> 28:31 [DEREK]: Dean alternate absolutely, but I also think there's some some other super type powers in there as well Also believe yeah quickness of his movement 20 when he grabbed Kate's hand and put it inside the blender And the calmness of which he did it as well.
28:31 --> 28:39 [DEREK]: It seems like he has a lot of training So I'm sure we'll see that collaboration as the season goes on as well But that was my one Kate's tentative alliances.
28:39 --> 28:42 [DEREK]: She's not in a great place even though she's kind of given up everything Yeah
28:43 --> 28:54 [DEREK]: to be on the side of the home landers and definitely, so we move on to our major moments, yes I'll see you in a moment indeed.
28:54 --> 29:03 [JOHN]: I guess the big one for me then is you know the other side of this episode really is Marie on the wrong.
29:03 --> 29:04 [JOHN]: Yes from
29:05 --> 29:08 [JOHN]: the authorities after escaping El Mera.
29:08 --> 29:15 [JOHN]: And, you know, we see her kind of hustling around, trying to get some snacks to survive.
29:15 --> 29:18 [JOHN]: You see her in her motel room.
29:19 --> 29:28 [JOHN]: Again, trying to find her sister, but ultimately, you know, it's hoodie up, head down and keep her low profile.
29:28 --> 29:28 [JOHN]: And,
29:30 --> 29:39 [JOHN]: That kind of works all right until she sort of intervenes to defend a group of guys who are being harassed and harassed by.
29:41 --> 30:03 [JOHN]: homeland fans who are kind of like threatened them saying well this is homeland of turf now you know they I think they were defending starlight and so yes there they are a group of starlighters you can see there we're in church they're carrying placards and maybe they were coming back from a rally um and they're in this situation they're after the end of the boy's season four we're in a situation where
30:03 --> 30:09 [DEREK]: They think they've won the battle there, so homelander fans are targeting starlishers on the streets.
30:09 --> 30:22 [DEREK]: They believe that they're in a position of power now if they support homelander and listen to all those lies and believe all those lies that gives them some kind of power to beat up other humans who are supporting starlies on the streets, you know?
30:22 --> 30:24 [DEREK]: So it's an interesting situation isn't because
30:25 --> 30:27 [DEREK]: It will boil over, like that's the whole thing.
30:27 --> 30:32 [DEREK]: We've had these groups up against each other all the way throughout season for of the boys.
30:32 --> 30:34 [DEREK]: Yes, they may have some soups on their side.
30:35 --> 30:38 [DEREK]: Of course, but yeah, they're getting quite cocky here.
30:38 --> 30:41 [DEREK]: And in this case, Marie is on the side of the starlighters.
30:41 --> 30:44 [DEREK]: They shouldn't be being harassed in the streets.
30:44 --> 30:49 [DEREK]: And part of it is because one of the members of the starlighters was the one that gave her the extra couple of dollars to buy
30:56 --> 30:59 [JOHN]: Because they ultimately end up being the damsel.
30:59 --> 31:03 [JOHN]: I do like seeing Marie's powers.
31:04 --> 31:09 [JOHN]: Just because it's being able to control blood it's such an unusual power.
31:09 --> 31:10 [JOHN]: So things.
31:10 --> 31:11 [JOHN]: Just disgusting.
31:11 --> 31:12 [JOHN]: Oh, disgusting.
31:13 --> 31:13 [JOHN]: Yeah, absolutely.
31:13 --> 31:18 [JOHN]: I mean, I do like the notion that she can sort of interfere with the...
31:19 --> 31:23 [JOHN]: beating of the heart and all that because of the control of the blood.
31:23 --> 31:35 [JOHN]: But it's such an interesting power that you know, she can kind of clot his and fire us use it as a rope or, you know, binds and so on.
31:36 --> 31:42 [JOHN]: but it's interesting, it's like she has to be, she's going to use it as a weapon.
31:42 --> 31:42 [DEREK]: Yeah.
31:42 --> 31:44 [JOHN]: She has to cut herself.
31:44 --> 31:45 [DEREK]: Yes.
31:45 --> 31:58 [DEREK]: And most admitted me that I much preferred the second fight that she did this first fight where she's fighting against the homelander fans, where she's ripping blood out of their body and throwing blood all over the place.
31:58 --> 32:01 [DEREK]: It's so disgusting to watch because it's almost like she has a razor blade.
32:02 --> 32:04 [DEREK]: If this was in real life and she didn't have the suit perors,
32:04 --> 32:09 [DEREK]: In my mind, I'm seeing her with a knife, slashing up people's Aron Cotan or something.
32:09 --> 32:11 [JOHN]: Yeah, two Cotanists as well.
32:11 --> 32:12 [DEREK]: That's cool.
32:12 --> 32:12 [DEREK]: That's cool.
32:12 --> 32:18 [DEREK]: Then I'm thinking much more like she's got a razor blade and she's going up close and caught Maybe yeah, I'm pretty brutal to watch what she's doing.
32:18 --> 32:23 [JOHN]: You know, I mean, I think the important thing here there as well is that having being
32:24 --> 32:49 [JOHN]: hoodie up head down this suddenly and does puts a significant target on her back now because of this incident and indeed then we do see the human doggy sniffing around on the trail of a scent as we see dog not going into the petrol station where she had originally been and so I thought that was um
32:50 --> 32:53 [JOHN]: I'll take a look at talking else.
32:53 --> 32:53 [JOHN]: Yes.
32:53 --> 32:55 [JOHN]: And we're going down and all fours.
32:55 --> 32:57 [JOHN]: As soon as I saw, it was like, oh, here we go.
32:57 --> 33:00 [JOHN]: Here's the suit that can track.
33:00 --> 33:01 [DEREK]: I've got a lot of time.
33:01 --> 33:07 [DEREK]: Because you just literally, as it gets out of the car, it just literally goes down and turns and he's gives it a sniff, goes inside.
33:07 --> 33:13 [DEREK]: And if the bag of the bag of chips, that's one of the kind of freedom chips are freedom free.
33:13 --> 33:21 [DEREK]: I'm pretty surprised in the bag, so he's following the sense of Marie Moro here as well.
33:21 --> 33:30 [DEREK]: So really, interestingly, if you're a fan of Hsof Shield, you may recognize the actor here's Zach McGowan, who was on Hsof Shield for quite a few episodes as one of the bad guys there.
33:31 --> 33:34 [DEREK]: He's an Irish actor as well, so it's kind of cool to jump for the Irish.
33:35 --> 33:42 [JOHN]: And he looked very familiar to the guy who played destruction in Sandman season 2.
33:42 --> 33:51 [JOHN]: Like initially I thought it was the same guy, but it's not ultimately, but certainly doppelgangers on the last.
33:51 --> 33:58 [DEREK]: But at least we know what he's from in the past, he's from over the years, because we all at love dates and she'll back to the day when I was like, yes, you did, yes, I did.
33:58 --> 33:58 [DEREK]: Yeah.
33:58 --> 33:59 [JOHN]: No, it was great.
33:59 --> 34:00 [JOHN]: Loved agents of shield.
34:01 --> 34:04 [JOHN]: So, you know, I think the fight's really good.
34:05 --> 34:09 [JOHN]: I do like the use of the metal testicles to not quite a lot of them out.
34:10 --> 34:14 [JOHN]: But certainly, like she can certainly whip them with that sort of rope of blood.
34:14 --> 34:14 [DEREK]: Yeah.
34:15 --> 34:18 [JOHN]: And like she sort of caves in the back of that pick-up.
34:18 --> 34:22 [JOHN]: But also, yeah, it sort of exposes her really.
34:22 --> 34:23 [JOHN]: Yeah.
34:23 --> 34:29 [JOHN]: And trying to be a spotlight for then Dogknott to sort of be called into track.
34:29 --> 34:33 [DEREK]: Yeah, and he finds a pretty quick, he, the base of the place that she's gone to clean up after this fight.
34:34 --> 34:37 [DEREK]: He tracks her down to there, and the two of them get in the battle.
34:37 --> 34:42 [DEREK]: And again, the reason why I say up-preferred this fight is because, yes, she does use her power as normal.
34:42 --> 34:47 [DEREK]: He's very challenging to battle against, and then she tries to use that power to crush his heart.
34:48 --> 34:56 [DEREK]: But it isn't winning at that point, but it's just really good to watch on the screen and, as I say, a lot less blood being spread around all over the place.
34:57 --> 35:07 [DEREK]: But if it wasn't for the arrival of Starlight of Annie January to say for, I wonder whether, whether Marie might have been in the back of a van, been dragged off to Valle again.
35:08 --> 35:09 [JOHN]: Yeah, absolutely.
35:09 --> 35:18 [JOHN]: I think without a shadow of a doubt here, you know, again, we get this next bit of information coming from Starlight.
35:18 --> 35:28 [JOHN]: I do like the fact that she pulls Robbs as you need to work smarter here, you know, what you did to sort of, you know, have the spotlight on you to sort of...
35:29 --> 35:44 [JOHN]: bring the vault closer to capturing you and actually the safest place you can be now is to go back to Godalkin as it's the safest place for you and I need your help.
35:44 --> 35:45 [JOHN]: Exactly.
35:45 --> 35:51 [JOHN]: And it's interesting because you know she does ask the question well what do you know about Dr. Godalkin founded the
35:55 --> 36:14 [JOHN]: that he was Vault's right-hand man in charge of a project called Project Odessa and it seems she says as though Vault are starting up this program again and did at the start of this episode we have a flashback to 1967 where we see a failed Odessa project and
36:14 --> 36:23 [JOHN]: And that's happening and indeed Dr. Goodolkin is killed as well within the fire seemingly He certainly slumps down at the door.
36:24 --> 36:28 [DEREK]: Yeah, and we see everybody else died, but we see him not being able to pull the ass out
36:30 --> 36:50 [DEREK]: Yeah, it just had me question because we've been watching a lot of book and covering Alien Earth on the podcast, which has this idea of hybrids not being able to be created unless they're from children and it made me wonder whether this or this a project was an example of them trying to test compound V, which is what creates the soups as we've seen throughout the multiple seasons.
36:51 --> 36:52 [DEREK]: Was this the
36:53 --> 37:04 [DEREK]: Scientists trying it on themselves and then not being able to hold the superpowers in that that might be the reason why it had to be done on kids in the future Well, that's because they are to the old backside.
37:04 --> 37:12 [DEREK]: Yeah, one of them and and one of the guys like gets this human torch a pair is but burns up inside Isn't talking about a change to physiology.
37:12 --> 37:13 [JOHN]: Yeah, they've not grown up with it.
37:13 --> 37:16 [JOHN]: It's suddenly you've gone from being a body that
37:17 --> 37:43 [JOHN]: Yes, if in close proximity to a raging fire is going to burn and now all of a sudden is burning from these powers Yeah, and it certainly looked like an early stage of compound V because it looked like a cloudy blue on the clear blue that you see in the boys for example But he comes in so you're running in to say don't inject yourself with it It's not ready yet and maybe he's compared a and they have to go all the way
37:47 --> 37:56 [JOHN]: the superpowers do absolutely take hold, but it's way too quickly, way too much for the body and in particular for the adults.
37:57 --> 38:10 [JOHN]: And so yeah, I think you could have something there where it needs to be introduced to a baby or a fetus or an embryo in order that the development of that embryo
38:16 --> 38:21 [JOHN]: growth is all um gradual with the powers.
38:22 --> 38:24 [DEREK]: Yeah, I wonder if that's the if that's the reason behind.
38:24 --> 38:24 [JOHN]: Yeah.
38:25 --> 38:25 [JOHN]: Yeah.
38:25 --> 38:28 [JOHN]: So yeah, it makes sense for sure.
38:28 --> 38:36 [JOHN]: And in many respects, Marie doesn't seem totally enamored with that um suggestion from Starlight.
38:36 --> 38:37 [JOHN]: But
38:37 --> 38:50 [JOHN]: Later on, we have Emma seeing the video of Marie's fight and knows that it's her and so wants to find her and her and her and Jordan heading off then to track her down.
38:50 --> 38:51 [DEREK]: Yeah, absolutely.
38:51 --> 38:54 [DEREK]: A lot of how Emma finds out about this because it's still college.
38:54 --> 38:55 [DEREK]: It's still university.
38:55 --> 38:56 [DEREK]: It's still fresh as we can have.
38:57 --> 38:58 [DEREK]: So they are at a party.
38:59 --> 39:00 [DEREK]: Jordan is getting...
39:01 --> 39:03 [DEREK]: absolutely wasted on shots.
39:03 --> 39:07 [DEREK]: You can see them just necking shots over and over again.
39:07 --> 39:16 [DEREK]: Emma because of what happened with Sam and finding out that Sam's dating the Justine business, who's the social media queen.
39:17 --> 39:22 [DEREK]: So Emma shrinks all the way to him because she's been put down in the party, but can't grow big again.
39:23 --> 39:30 [DEREK]: So she decides to have a bit of fun at the party and turn herself into the shot that's usually beer pong, isn't it?
39:30 --> 39:42 [DEREK]: herself into the ping pong ball being thrown into the beer and getting more and more drunk because she goes, but effectively she's trying to get some more drugs from a member of the member of the party.
39:42 --> 39:47 [DEREK]: And he's playing this video of the aftermath of the attack on the homelander D-Bag fans.
39:48 --> 39:52 [DEREK]: And once Emma sees the amount of blood that's around there, she knows this must be.
39:52 --> 39:52 [DEREK]: Yeah.
39:54 --> 40:02 [DEREK]: So, again, this situation where Marie went up against the outmothers has led two different groups to relocate one of the friends.
40:03 --> 40:04 [DEREK]: But they don't go alone.
40:04 --> 40:06 [DEREK]: They don't have to arrive alone anyway.
40:06 --> 40:09 [DEREK]: And Jordan arrived and cases followed along with them.
40:10 --> 40:12 [JOHN]: I do like how they find her there.
40:12 --> 40:15 [JOHN]: So they do look to try and track her down.
40:15 --> 40:21 [JOHN]: And so go to the nearest petrol station, which is the same one that she bought the stuff.
40:21 --> 40:23 [JOHN]: And as she's like, I don't know.
40:23 --> 40:29 [JOHN]: And the guy behind the camera, they say a walking pass that's like front door.
40:29 --> 40:31 [JOHN]: Oh, isn't that the right person?
40:31 --> 40:33 [JOHN]: And so that's a nice, I like that, twitch.
40:34 --> 40:34 [DEREK]: To know, because
40:35 --> 40:44 [DEREK]: You can't have every single time, every single place when you ask someone that has seen someone that can't go, don't have a scene or it has to happen.
40:45 --> 40:49 [DEREK]: Once in a while, it has to happen that the person comes back to the same place they were in, right?
40:49 --> 40:51 [DEREK]: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
40:51 --> 40:55 [DEREK]: It's a coincidence that she was walking past to that moment, but Twitter's do happen in life.
40:55 --> 40:56 [DEREK]: So why not go with it?
40:56 --> 41:01 [JOHN]: I think the interesting thing though, he is, once they do find, you know, Jordan tells Marie that,
41:04 --> 41:06 [JOHN]: died trying to escape.
41:07 --> 41:08 [JOHN]: So she doesn't know this.
41:08 --> 41:14 [JOHN]: And again, it's another reveal to another member of the group.
41:14 --> 41:18 [DEREK]: Yeah, this was kind of my point for the major moments.
41:18 --> 41:24 [DEREK]: So I was just incorporated here because we're getting the end of the episode, but it is how they incorporated Andre's death into the episode.
41:26 --> 41:30 [DEREK]: He was a major character in Season 1, really important character.
41:31 --> 41:44 [DEREK]: It was the four of them sitting in that place together at the end of Season 1, so incorporating his death effectively saying that because Marie had left them behind when she found a way out.
41:44 --> 41:53 [DEREK]: inspired him to attempt to escape Bush, he tried to bring everybody else with him at the same time and died and has anything to do so dies.
41:53 --> 42:01 [JOHN]: I don't know whether that was at the hands of a prison guard or from some of the security arrangements at El Mera.
42:02 --> 42:08 [JOHN]: I'm guessing that might sort of be explained more in some of the other episodes, but ultimately in trying to escape,
42:10 --> 42:31 [JOHN]: he died so I mean that that's revealed here and we have also then Kate has followed them and she also likes Starlight tries to persuade Maria to go back to school I mean we've heard Slyther also telling Kate you know she needs to help find Marie as well and now she has
42:32 --> 42:41 [JOHN]: As the shock of seeing Kate, also Marie having just been told that Andre is dead, Kate does go towards it in order to try and, you know,
42:43 --> 42:46 [JOHN]: Persuade her through her mind powers.
42:46 --> 42:48 [DEREK]: Well, that's a suggestion, definitely.
42:48 --> 42:52 [DEREK]: That's the suggestion, but we heard before the case is trying to work with them.
42:52 --> 43:02 [DEREK]: So, I'm not on Kate's side, yes, certainly after everything that she's done, but effectively it's part of the moment is that she's just learned that Marie has been
43:02 --> 43:20 [DEREK]: Talking to Starlight directly, and case has been convinced that anybody that's against home lander is Mean, it is on the other side so it's entirely possible the cape was reaching out to use her powers, but to find out about starlight agree or Or yeah, to find out about Starlight or you're right.
43:20 --> 43:23 [DEREK]: She could have been trying to use her powers to force Reback to school.
43:23 --> 43:28 [DEREK]: We don't really know because the instant that she does Jordan's doing that stands up this time
43:29 --> 43:35 [DEREK]: Marie had taken Kate's hand when Kate tried to use her powers on Jordan at the end of the first season.
43:36 --> 43:40 [DEREK]: This time we have Jordan pushing Kate up against a wall and cracking her skull open.
43:40 --> 43:44 [JOHN]: I think the defense of it is whatever the move is of Kate.
43:45 --> 43:56 [JOHN]: The group are hugely and rightly so suspicious exactly and and doubtful of her intentions Her motives and and they just simply don't trust her.
43:56 --> 44:00 [DEREK]: Yeah, and we hear that and we hear that in Marie going But I can't touch her.
44:00 --> 44:05 [DEREK]: I can't even help her because if I do she'll be able to get control of me She thinks I know what I know
44:06 --> 44:08 [DEREK]: and she'll get control of me.
44:09 --> 44:14 [DEREK]: And then as Kate is lying in the ground with blood pouring out of her head, she's calling out to Emma to help her.
44:15 --> 44:18 [DEREK]: So yeah, it's a pretty horrible moment.
44:18 --> 44:19 [JOHN]: Yeah, it's pretty shocking.
44:20 --> 44:23 [JOHN]: And then as you say, it's fade to black clearly here.
44:24 --> 44:25 [JOHN]: And we get the end credits.
44:25 --> 44:28 [JOHN]: So I mean, there's a big moment to finish on.
44:29 --> 44:30 [JOHN]: Not convinced she
44:32 --> 44:41 [JOHN]: as gone or as killed because still and sort of reaching out for help here actually integral to plot it.
44:41 --> 44:42 [JOHN]: Yeah, exactly.
44:42 --> 44:43 [JOHN]: And that as well.
44:43 --> 44:45 [JOHN]: But I was trying to keep it in the story.
44:46 --> 44:47 [DEREK]: This isn't the this is
44:47 --> 44:52 [DEREK]: the walking dead where they just kill off a character who has like 10 years more of story life just to shock you.
44:53 --> 44:54 [DEREK]: So I think I think she's there.
44:54 --> 44:56 [DEREK]: I think we'll see if we agree.
44:56 --> 44:56 [DEREK]: Yeah, yeah.
44:57 --> 44:58 [DEREK]: That's trying to be more suspenseful.
44:58 --> 44:58 [DEREK]: Okay.
44:59 --> 44:59 [DEREK]: All right.
44:59 --> 45:01 [DEREK]: Talk about trying to be more suspenseful.
45:01 --> 45:04 [DEREK]: And can I just say prime video, don't do this anymore.
45:05 --> 45:06 [DEREK]: You don't need to push.
45:06 --> 45:15 [DEREK]: What's coming up in the rest of the season in your closing credits of your first episode when you release three episodes do that at the end of the third episode Because we've got two more episodes to watch.
45:16 --> 45:19 [DEREK]: I didn't want to see clips from the next episode Come it up.
45:19 --> 45:22 [DEREK]: So if I could just just record them one thing.
45:22 --> 45:22 [DEREK]: Don't do that.
45:23 --> 45:25 [DEREK]: Play the next episode and I watch that instead
45:27 --> 45:32 [DEREK]: I just hate, I hate watching those kind of trailers, as I'm definitely all in to watch the rest of this season.
45:33 --> 45:33 [JOHN]: Yeah.
45:34 --> 45:37 [DEREK]: So any other notes generally, anything else you want to mention from the episode that we didn't talk with?
45:37 --> 45:40 [JOHN]: No, no more notes for myself.
45:41 --> 45:44 [DEREK]: Just the only one note I have, I was just a question because I don't really know what it is.
45:44 --> 45:46 [DEREK]: I can make assumptions.
45:46 --> 45:50 [DEREK]: But Doug Nass is trying to get an injection into Marie.
45:52 --> 45:53 [DEREK]: Is he just trying to knock her right?
45:53 --> 45:55 [DEREK]: With it or is it going to be something else too?
45:55 --> 45:55 [DEREK]: We never find that.
45:55 --> 45:57 [DEREK]: Yeah, never got to use the injection honor.
45:57 --> 45:59 [JOHN]: I suspect it's just a sedator.
45:59 --> 46:00 [DEREK]: Maybe.
46:00 --> 46:07 [JOHN]: I think I don't think they would let him do something that's possibly critical Yeah, to her powers.
46:08 --> 46:10 [JOHN]: I think they would want to experiment on that.
46:10 --> 46:14 [DEREK]: You know, or was he gonna get a sample of her blood And take a look like with them or something I don't know.
46:14 --> 46:16 [DEREK]: It's just because she's got blood pyros.
46:16 --> 46:26 [DEREK]: I always suspect there's something there that they were not sure Maybe maybe but then again, she wasn't she wasn't the rehab center for about three or four months
46:30 --> 46:34 [JOHN]: Derek, what do you think of Genvy?
46:35 --> 46:38 [JOHN]: episode one of season two, New Year, New Year.
46:38 --> 46:48 [DEREK]: It's great to be back with this cast of characters and it feels even more integral to the universe of the boys after watching season four of the boys and then leading into this season.
46:48 --> 46:49 [DEREK]: So it's great to be back with them.
46:50 --> 47:02 [DEREK]: This is a set of episode but you know this season hat to have a big establishing episode because you need to know where everybody is and more than anything I had no idea how they were going to get this cast back.
47:03 --> 47:08 [DEREK]: into Gdalkan University to start their second semester, or second year, so yeah, of college.
47:08 --> 47:10 [DEREK]: I thought that was it.
47:10 --> 47:13 [DEREK]: There was four of them were locked in, and they were going to be on the run for the rest of the series.
47:13 --> 47:23 [DEREK]: I loved the fact that they had the two big characters who were on the run, meeting up having Marie, meet up with Annie January, who's been on the run since the end of the and of the boys season four.
47:23 --> 47:28 [DEREK]: I thought that was cool to have the two of them be so open, and Annie go effectively.
47:28 --> 47:30 [DEREK]: It's nice that you're inspired by me, but
47:31 --> 47:36 [DEREK]: Don't do what I do, you've got another plan for you, and you'll actually be safe with God's you.
47:36 --> 47:38 [DEREK]: I like that they use the character that way.
47:38 --> 47:39 [DEREK]: So, great start.
47:39 --> 47:42 [DEREK]: Looking forward to the rest of the season and two more episodes to go this week.
47:42 --> 47:43 [DEREK]: So, enjoying that.
47:43 --> 47:44 [DEREK]: Excellent stuff.
47:44 --> 47:45 [DEREK]: How about yourself, John?
47:45 --> 47:47 [DEREK]: Why do you think of this first episode of season two?
47:47 --> 47:48 [DEREK]: New Year, New Year, New Year.
47:49 --> 47:50 [JOHN]: Yeah, I really enjoyed this.
47:50 --> 47:52 [JOHN]: I've given it four bookchokes out of five.
47:52 --> 47:54 [JOHN]: That's a play on bookplugs.
47:54 --> 47:55 [DEREK]: I see.
47:55 --> 47:58 [JOHN]: And yeah, I just thought it was good introduction.
48:01 --> 48:05 [JOHN]: brought them back from the Elmera facility.
48:05 --> 48:13 [JOHN]: I have to say I wasn't really expecting that at the end of season once, seeing them in a windowless experimental sale.
48:13 --> 48:19 [JOHN]: I wasn't entirely hopeful for them as to how they were going to get out of that, or then
48:20 --> 48:29 [JOHN]: this first episode would be more about them in there and going on the run that it would be some kind of future-to-type season.
48:29 --> 48:34 [JOHN]: Whereas here they put them right back into the university and I think that's really good actually.
48:34 --> 48:39 [JOHN]: I'm glad they've done that because Gdolkin University is the centre of the
48:44 --> 49:05 [JOHN]: Maybe they got there a little too quickly, but it's eight episodes, so a bit of shorthand here and there is always going to happen, and I mean, really, I think this notion that the commission found them in the sense of all the charges, it kind of works, and I think it works because of
49:06 --> 49:10 [JOHN]: the reaction to Kate and the awkwardness between these former friends.
49:12 --> 49:18 [JOHN]: It really feels like they are fish out of water actually at Gadolkin net.
49:18 --> 49:25 [JOHN]: And so playing on that tension that awkwardness on campus is really nicely done, I think.
49:26 --> 49:30 [JOHN]: And then seeing the re on the run, that is the future
49:31 --> 49:33 [JOHN]: kind of aspect here.
49:33 --> 49:45 [JOHN]: So I'm just looking forward to getting around to episode two because yeah I thought this was a really good kind of setup moment and episode for this new season.
49:46 --> 49:49 [JOHN]: So yet for butchugs out of fun.
49:49 --> 49:50 [JOHN]: Fantastic, fantastic.
49:51 --> 50:12 [DEREK]: uh... speaking of chugging drinking chugging yes let's say let's go chugging up thoughts right and i think it's time to get into the campus student bar and suddenly pick up a point and get our first question for it the boys gen v student bar quits just uh... fellow boys fellow girls and of course fellow quizzes welcome to the boys gen v
50:13 --> 50:14 [JOHN]: student bar quiz.
50:14 --> 50:17 [JOHN]: It is episode one of season two.
50:17 --> 50:24 [JOHN]: So we have the first question of our second season and second, Gen V quiz.
50:25 --> 50:26 [JOHN]: Here we go.
50:26 --> 50:33 [JOHN]: According to Dean Cipher, what movie beat Cate and Sam's movie "Flipped" at the box office?
50:34 --> 50:35 [DEREK]: What smoked flipped?
50:35 --> 50:51 [DEREK]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha very good John, very good. Or what flipped "Flipped"? I guess. I bet you thought we were gonna ask what their movie was called because it was all over the episode. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Do you want to give the question fully one more time John?
50:52 --> 50:58 [JOHN]: Yes, according to Dean Seifer, what movie be Cate and Sam's movie flipped at the box office?
50:59 --> 51:16 [JOHN]: Remember fellow quizzes, fellow boys and girls, collect all eight answers together over the course of this season and then email them in at the end of the season to feedback at tvpodcastindustries.com where you will be with a chance for getting your hands on some Gen V goodies.

54:15 --> 54:20 [JOHN]: Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug.
54:20 --> 54:22 [DEREK]: See, I could laugh at those, because my mate's not taking up.
