One and a half years after becoming a synthetic life on Coppelius, Admiral Jean Luc Picard has returned to tending his vines with Laris at Chateau Picard and leading Starfleet Academy. Aboard the newly refitted Star Gazer, Captain Rios and his crew discover a spatial anomaly with a simple message. They want to join the Federation but only if they can deal directly with Admiral Picard.
