[00:00:00] This is the Pennyworth podcast on TV Podcast Industries and we're here to talk about the
[00:00:04] finale of season 3 of Pennyworth Highland Wedding.
[00:00:30] Welcome back fellow governors and Gothamites, we're here talking about Pennyworth season
[00:01:00] 3 episode 10 the finale of the third season of Pennyworth Highland Wedding. I'm one of your hosts Derek
[00:01:05] Hello there fellow governors and fellow Gothamites. I am one of your other hosts John
[00:01:10] What an episode. Oh wow, I didn't stop laughing for a lot of it. It was great fun.
[00:01:16] Yeah, it was really good fun. Yeah, just a great way to wrap out the season
[00:01:22] the way they have and no wonder because it is written by Bruno Heller the show winner of the show
[00:01:27] the guiding hand behind Gotham the guiding hand behind the first three seasons of Pennyworth as
[00:01:31] well. So no wonder this is all of his sensibilities put into one episode. Definitely and we know
[00:01:37] there's a writer's room of course so we know that all of the team had a hand in there in all
[00:01:41] the crafting of the series so far but there's something about the sensibility of the show
[00:01:46] that is on full display in this finale episode. Definitely, definitely and I mean
[00:01:51] yeah it really harked back to just the great visual comedy and the writing just the weird
[00:02:00] outlandish moments as well. It was just so so good so yeah I really enjoyed this final episode.
[00:02:07] Absolutely absolutely a bit of sadness though of course when we get to the end of a season
[00:02:10] we are at the end of Pennyworth season three. First time Pennyworth's been on
[00:02:14] HBO Max as well all episodes available over there as of this year along with all episodes
[00:02:19] of Gotham but it was only commissioned for this one season for HBO Max. It was actually originally
[00:02:25] commissioned for Epix and moved to HBO Max so we don't know about the future of the show whether
[00:02:29] there will be a fourth season or whether the story will continue. I do like how they
[00:02:33] capped it off so it's still possible. Yeah absolutely. There could be a future here we
[00:02:38] haven't closed out any of the story lines and then a time jump 20 years into the future
[00:02:42] to have older Alfred with young Bruce Wayne we haven't done any of that so
[00:02:46] there are still stories to tell if they wish to tell them. Yeah who knows. Also though a big thank you
[00:02:52] to our fellow Gothamites and governors who have joined us and subscribe to the podcast for this season
[00:02:59] of Pennyworth and if you're a late joiner for example on episode 10 of season three
[00:03:08] please head on over to subscribe on tvpodcastindustries.com where you can join any
[00:03:15] straight-least or groovy podcast player of your choice. Yes okay. Yes. This is the wrap up episode
[00:03:23] for the finale of Pennyworth but we do want to hear your thoughts you can always email us at any time
[00:03:27] to feedbackasstvpodcastindustries.com or if you want to follow any of our other shows as John
[00:03:32] mentioned subscribe to the podcast and you can also join us over in our Facebook group at
[00:03:36] facebook.com slash groups slash tv podcast industries to find out what else we're going
[00:03:40] to be covering over the coming months we do lots and lots of tv shows usually about 20 or so a year
[00:03:46] it seems at the moment. Yeah so we'll have lots and lots more to come on the podcast on the main
[00:03:51] feed on tv podcast industries. Yeah good stuff I think it's about time that we get into our
[00:03:57] spoiler filled chit chat. Absolutely. Derek take it away who did what when were and how. Well I
[00:04:06] already mentioned the episodes written by Bruno Heller showrunner of Pennyworth and Gotham
[00:04:10] and loads of other stuff he did the mentalist as well I believe his next big project is heading
[00:04:14] off to the land of Westeros. Interesting. Yeah for one of the prequel series of Game of Thrones
[00:04:19] I'm not sure of the status of it was announced with him as as lead showrunner but haven't heard
[00:04:25] much but of course the focus of the PR was on House of the Dragon the first prequel series so
[00:04:31] we will see where that goes to. Well if there is any show where I could see someone beating
[00:04:36] someone else with a limb from a dismembered body then I think it's Game of Thrones to be honest.
[00:04:43] Yeah yeah just like Pennyworth in addition to 10. Absolutely absolutely the director of this episode
[00:04:49] was Rob Bailey we've talked about Rob Bailey a lot he this is the 10th episode of Pennyworth
[00:04:54] so he's directed and he directed the penultimate episode of season one the last two episodes
[00:04:57] of season two and once again last two episodes of season three as well and he directed 11
[00:05:01] episodes of Gotham so just one shy of the same number of episodes for Pennyworth but of course
[00:05:06] Gotham round for a couple more seasons Gotham round for two more seasons than that than Pennyworth
[00:05:09] has so far. Yes. So great to have Rob on board great to have these alumni here for this final
[00:05:14] episode of season three as well and John do you want to tell us what they gave us with your
[00:05:18] snops as for the finale of Pennyworth season three Highland Wedding. Sure across merry old
[00:05:24] London town Mary Cow Dairies deliver milk laced with the hallucinogen lullaby to the
[00:05:30] unsuspecting tea drinking population. Francis Fuchs is basking in the glow of his plan coming to
[00:05:37] fruition but he realises that his loving followers have quickly become an angry mob as he is beaten
[00:05:43] to death. Witnessing the murder and learning of the tainted milk Dave Boy and Sally head to the
[00:05:50] Queen Anne's Revenge to warn all the patrons of the impending danger and not to drink the
[00:05:56] tea. Meanwhile Lucius gets an SOS out of level seven and Alfie and Martha break in to save them
[00:06:04] but Lucius can't leave without saving Bet and the rest of the Pwe's while locking General
[00:06:09] Thursday and his army in the bunker. When Alfie sees the carnage caused by the infected Londoners
[00:06:16] he jumps in his car grabs his reluctant girlfriend Sandra heads to the Queen Anne's Revenge
[00:06:22] with everyone else to arm themselves have a nice cold pint and wait for this to all blow over.
[00:06:28] Without knowledge of the outside world General Thursday calls Prime Minister Aziz for assistance
[00:06:33] but the Prime Minister has been affected by lullaby and believes Thursday is starting a coup.
[00:06:40] While the two argue and their anger escalates Alfie declares his love for Sandra and she
[00:06:45] agrees to marry him. As tensions get worse and worse between General Thursday and the Prime
[00:06:50] Minister Alfie gets everyone from the Queen Anne's Revenge on a London bus and picks up his mum
[00:06:56] and the wanes to take them out of the city. With everyone gathered to witness Alfie and
[00:07:02] Sandra's wedding their vows are rudely interrupted as a bomb ordered by General Thursday is dropped
[00:07:09] on number 10 Downing Street just as Prime Minister Aziz wakes from his hallucination.
[00:07:16] Oh yes it doesn't sound as funny as the episode actually was when you're talking about bombs
[00:07:22] landing on number 10 Downing Street and violence going on all across the city but
[00:07:26] lots of great comedy moments throughout this episode. Definitely definitely but shall we get
[00:07:32] on to our first point from the episode. Yeah. Saving Lucius and the Pwe's.
[00:07:40] Let's start out there as Lucius is stuck in level seven after effectively releasing all the Pwe's
[00:07:48] from their imprisonment and they've been battling with the army of General Thursday below ground
[00:07:54] they have no way out because they're all still trapped in level seven. So I love this kind of
[00:08:00] showing of Lucius' ability to create gadgets out of anything the kind of MacGyvering of a
[00:08:05] phone where he makes the phone call and is able to get in contact with Mr. Chadley who's sitting
[00:08:10] in his office gets the phone call smashes his bottle of milk thankfully so he doesn't get
[00:08:16] caught by the hallucinogens but gets this SOS message out which is all he gets out is SOS
[00:08:23] level seven and that it's Lucius here but that's enough for Chadley to piece it all
[00:08:27] together and call in Alfie and Martha to go and help him out. Yeah I loved how
[00:08:36] efficient all of this was because I was thinking how is this all going to play out?
[00:08:41] But ultimately it is a citizen's arrest of level seven by Martha and Alfie and
[00:08:49] General Thursday acquiesces quite easily here. Not without a lot of huffing and puffing and
[00:08:55] dare I say blowing the house down kind of noises coming from General Thursday. I mean certainly
[00:09:01] doesn't take it easily but I love how really they just manage to infiltrate into this bunker
[00:09:12] because it's the same entrance as level six. And of course there's no level seven button to press
[00:09:19] like there is for Lucius to get to his normal office on a regular working day but instead
[00:09:25] they need to use the guards eye as the identification to get the lift to open up access for going
[00:09:37] down to level seven. Yeah really like the comedy moment with Martha revealing her pass only gets
[00:09:42] it to level six and then she asks the guard does he have access to level seven? Yes he does
[00:09:46] okay Alfie take a break so Innie comes inside to be pressed against the eye scanner. Very good
[00:09:52] stuff again yeah really enjoyed that but yes we get Lucius obviously really happy that he's
[00:10:00] that he's made contact with the outside world and that he's going to be freed but
[00:10:03] he needs to do a few things before he leaves here he needs to get Bet free first,
[00:10:07] Bet reunites with everybody again another great moment with her. It's a long story
[00:10:11] first off I killed John Salt it's a long story for another time. Stop you there let's go
[00:10:16] and then they get the rest of the PWEs to come and join up with them and as Lucius seems to enact
[00:10:22] this really complicated plan for keeping Thursday and his men underground I love it and it's because
[00:10:28] Lucius is so competent as his work what he's done is he's locked them in on a timer for two
[00:10:34] hours in a cell once they get out of that cell they'll have access to all the amenities
[00:10:38] they can go to the bathroom they have food they're able to maybe make contact with the outside world
[00:10:43] but they can't get out to the outside world for a few days which will allow them to calm down
[00:10:47] and allow the PWEs to get away so they can't be captured again so I like the planning of all that
[00:10:52] and if they do try and break any of the defenses which were in the plans from
[00:10:56] general Thursday in the first place then the entire place will explode so I like that
[00:11:01] it's all jerry-rigged if somebody tries to get in from the outside world as well
[00:11:05] if he calls on external troops to come and get them out the place will explode so
[00:11:09] I like that this is all playing on the knowledge of Lucius and he has this kind of three-step
[00:11:14] plan to make sure they can't get out into the world to stop him and his PWEs very smart man
[00:11:19] that Lucius absolutely general Thursday is well and truly trapped down here and of course
[00:11:24] you know that later on really sets him off you know he's not in a good mood
[00:11:30] anyway because of this he's lost his PWEs but also because Martha and Alfie are so connected
[00:11:38] with Prime Minister Aziz he thinks that this is a play by Aziz into his own territory that he has
[00:11:48] absolute control executive control over level seven and this really then kicks off later for the
[00:11:58] I guess the telephone battle between Thursday and the Prime Minister yeah yeah we'll talk about
[00:12:04] the PM versus general Thursday battle because it's another major plot point of the episode but just
[00:12:11] to kind of close out on what's happening with Lucius and the PWEs I love that they have this kind
[00:12:15] of moment with them where they're all brought to the Queen Anne's Revenge they team up with
[00:12:20] Dave Boy and Sally there blocking into the Queen Anne's Revenge there's lots of great
[00:12:25] fun moments with them we particularly get to know one of the big standouts here is Kevin the
[00:12:30] Blue Raven we saw him as John Saltz version of Captain Blighty very nice friendly chap
[00:12:38] singing karaoke with the rest of the crew as they all get a bit drunk I think that's probably
[00:12:41] because they've replaced the usual tea drinking of the of the team with drinking beer from
[00:12:47] behind the bar I'm sure that is the rational explanation definitely but certainly for me
[00:12:53] I just thought this was so wonderfully weird but I guess it's kind of almost that
[00:12:57] bunker mentality end of days where it's like well if i'm going to go down i'm going to go
[00:13:02] down and join myself absolutely why not have a real survive yeah why not have an ironic
[00:13:09] karaoke performance from one of the PWEs and who did also choose his own you know modified
[00:13:17] words for this appropriate for his blueness he absolutely did yes sir the line he changed
[00:13:22] to us and I will survive and you see me somebody blue just just as Alfie interrupts them so you
[00:13:29] see me somebody blue very good yes exactly like it pretty hell well this was really good
[00:13:34] I mean there was so much at the Queen's Anne the Queen Anne's revenge because you know first
[00:13:41] firstly we see Chandler they're taking that phone call from Lucius with Peggy
[00:13:48] Peggy Sykes looking on and trying not to wake the baby trying not to wake the baby but
[00:13:53] looking very severe yes and so very put upon again we have Sally and Dave showing up
[00:14:03] in an absolute Tis was because they've just seen Francis Fuchs being beaten to death by his
[00:14:11] own creation which was a great moment and again another bit of the episode where I was
[00:14:17] thinking well is he gonna kind of persist really is he you know kind of gonna melt into the
[00:14:22] background he might be for another season but no he's absolutely taken out by his
[00:14:28] angry mob lullaby infused angry mob so um but at least in that moment that's when they realize
[00:14:39] what's happened here is the Mary cow dairies that have been responsible for this drip feed of
[00:14:48] the lullaby drug to the wider population and of course you see everything starting to break
[00:14:54] down with angry mobs all over London yes and certainly as Lucius the PWE's Martha and
[00:15:05] Alfie managed to get from level seven they realized something is slightly amiss
[00:15:14] top side definitely for sure I think I think my favorite of them is the news reporter who's
[00:15:18] trying to announce it on the news and then gets attacked by her boom operator running out onto
[00:15:22] the screen it's a great great stuff in there but that kind of separates the group Martha
[00:15:27] realizes that something's going on here she needs to get back to the Wayne household
[00:15:30] protect her family as Alfie runs off to go collect his girlfriend who of course
[00:15:34] is not his girlfriend they're broken up exactly there's massive shades as we alluded to in the
[00:15:39] synopsis there massive shades of Shaun of the Dead in here if you haven't seen that movie definitely
[00:15:43] go watch it but there's definitely a lot of nods to that wonderful Shaun of the Dead
[00:15:51] with the zombie zombified population who are all aggressively trying to kill people around them
[00:15:57] like the zombies and Shaun of the Dead Alfie going to find the girlfriend that broke up with
[00:16:02] them just like Shaun did with his girlfriend him climbing up the outside of the building to get
[00:16:06] inside to her and very similar and of course holding up in the Queen's Queen Anne's Revenge
[00:16:11] is just like going to the Winchester exactly exactly as soon as you kind of mentioned it
[00:16:18] it was like absolutely can see the parallels with Shaun of the Dead here and again it was
[00:16:24] like really good and just the visual comedy the comedy here was absolutely I think some of the best
[00:16:35] throughout this season and as a with the off-the-wall karaoke being done I think as well just that
[00:16:42] sense of all the PWE's coming together as well we had a fantastic moment as the angry mob start
[00:16:50] encroaching on the defences that they've put around the Queen Anne's Revenge where Bet takes one of them
[00:16:58] out by ripping off his arm and beating him with it and it's just kind of so matter of factly done
[00:17:06] that it was it was just a great scene to see the reuniting of Bet with Peggy and Peggy was
[00:17:17] like you know effectively saying I can't believe you left a baby with me and if you hadn't returned
[00:17:25] you know I would have been really annoyed. Absolutely she's like she's saying I knew you
[00:17:30] weren't dead because you wouldn't leave a baby with me and Peggy's going well I was technically
[00:17:35] dead and I did leave a baby with you but I wouldn't normally do something like that yeah really
[00:17:39] really good moments with the two of them reuniting and of course when you have this
[00:17:44] in the final episode when you have you know these characters coming back and having moments
[00:17:47] together like this we see everybody on screen from the series every major character who's been
[00:17:52] an influence on the story this season gets a moment where they come on screen we even have
[00:17:56] Roger turning up at the Queen Anne's Revenge looking for his now girlfriend Mrs. P since he
[00:18:02] can't find her at home he goes to the pub to catch her so we know he's safe as well there's
[00:18:06] nobody left out as far as I could tell there's nobody really left out from the story that
[00:18:10] doesn't appear in this episode. Because Mrs. P is with the Wains I do love the fact that as well
[00:18:16] the Wains narrowly escape ingesting the lullaby drug by just not wanting tea after all the events
[00:18:25] of the previous episode with the kidnapping the extortion and so on and they just
[00:18:30] know you know need sleep or need something a bit stronger than tea yeah and you don't normally
[00:18:36] see that really especially in a show like this kind of moves on a couple of days after
[00:18:40] big events but here just even seeing Mrs. P curled up on the chair after all she's been through where
[00:18:46] she's like I could sleep for days but yes this whole tension that's there when Gladys comes up with
[00:18:51] the tray full of tea and with milk on the side and you're going uh-oh which one of them is
[00:18:55] going to drink but I like that it leads into that argument again with Thomas and Martha as to
[00:19:00] why she feels she has to save London has to save Lucius why should they be doing that when
[00:19:05] they just had a massively traumatic experience with their daughter kidnapped and it's a
[00:19:09] really good argument and I like that eventually even though Martha goes off to save Lucius she comes
[00:19:15] back they have the discussion again and she says we should save London I have no idea how to do it
[00:19:21] maybe we should just leave kind of around the same place by the end of it also that Gladys the
[00:19:27] housekeeper is effectively tied to the chair because she drank all the tea because they
[00:19:33] hadn't because they didn't touch a drop of it and so poor Gladys is tied up with nowhere to release
[00:19:40] her anger but at least we do know it was off eventually as with Dave Boyd yes I liked Samantha
[00:19:48] being particularly tickled by the fact that Mrs. P had to sit on Gladys to keep her down before
[00:19:54] she killed anybody in the house I thought that was great for myself but yes the escape
[00:19:59] that they have from the Queen Anne's Revenge is getting on a London bus to take you where you want
[00:20:04] to go right it's the 70s the bus service runs really well so um so Alfie commandeers the uh the
[00:20:10] London bus that's parked outside after after the kill a fair few of the attackers oh definitely
[00:20:15] yeah off they go and of course after he has made up with Sandra as well so I mean importantly
[00:20:22] she actually does come with Alfie grudgingly to the Queen Anne's Revenge yes she's not entirely
[00:20:29] bought in but she sees him there defending all the people and hold up in the Queen Anne's Revenge
[00:20:37] and you know something then they cross eyes and it gives him the courage to go and in acts
[00:20:45] effectively the advice that his mum gave him in the previous episode and this seems to have the
[00:20:53] desired effect for for the both of them it still seems like I mean you know I'm not going to
[00:21:00] split hers here although maybe technically I am but you know it's very much they certainly draw
[00:21:07] the line in the sand very quickly and then decide to get married um but that doesn't matter I'm just
[00:21:16] saying yeah you know the upshot of it is is that they profess their love and the marriage will
[00:21:25] will go ahead or will it I guess well we did have that pause moment before when he's saving Sandra
[00:21:33] and Sandra tells them you know unless you're going to be honest with me unless you're going
[00:21:36] to tell me one true honest thing we can't ever be together and I can't trust you in anything other than
[00:21:42] keeping me safe from attackers in which she tends to fall into because of things Alfie's done for the
[00:21:48] most part she tends to be a target quite a lot because she's kind of within Alfie's sphere let's
[00:21:55] say yes um so he does tell the truth he does say that he slept with somebody else since the last
[00:21:59] time they were together with Zara and so he does tell her the truth that's kind of the
[00:22:03] starting point but because he is standing in front of a full room of people declaring his love for
[00:22:08] Sandra which is what she wants she wants him to say I love you and I want to spend the rest of my
[00:22:12] life with you not I got you pregnant I'm going to put a ring on your finger because it's the
[00:22:17] right thing to do yeah and he does all of that he doesn't really want a kid exactly he genuinely
[00:22:22] says they they want to spend the rest of their lives together but as you alluded to we do
[00:22:26] have the wedding out in the cops out in the uh out in the countryside uh overlooking London
[00:22:31] where Lucius is officiating um Sandra says her vests she says I do she says that uh that she will be
[00:22:38] she'll be married to Alfie but the bomb that goes off uh does come in just before Alfie says
[00:22:43] his I do which I thought was quite a quite a good choice there if you're gonna keep it open
[00:22:49] and Alfie's never been married um it's a good way to do it as the bomb goes off isn't it
[00:22:53] it certainly is it was very good I love that it happened just there right there keep the mystery
[00:23:00] keep the suspense did he didn't he was he wasn't he married um yeah loved loved that timing of uh
[00:23:10] the attack on number 10 yeah absolutely uh is that two seasons we've had now that have ended
[00:23:15] with um with characters getting married we've had we had Martin Thomas that ended uh one of the
[00:23:19] seasons getting married uh and now this season ending with uh with another another wedding
[00:23:23] if they get a season four maybe it will be mrs. pian roger oh maybe maybe or Dave Boyne sally
[00:23:30] all they've got another two seasons in there you go there you go I was quite impressed that they had
[00:23:36] a bit of a bit of some moments with Dave Boyne kind of taking more of a leadership role because
[00:23:41] we had that whole conversation with sally and uh and Dave Boyne before where he feels like he's
[00:23:46] just there to follow up on whatever Alfie tells him to do yeah he's the the muscle effectively
[00:23:50] um where Alfie aims him at somebody and uh and Dave beats him or shoots him um but
[00:23:57] a couple episodes ago we had him solving the mystery effectively now this episode he takes
[00:24:01] the leadership role of getting everybody to the pub and uh and effectively defending everybody
[00:24:06] yeah while they're there so I think that is leading to Dave Boyne breaking away from Alfie
[00:24:11] we know he doesn't pay a part in his life in the future so um apart from in the comic books
[00:24:16] he has got a little uh a little um guest role in the penny worth comic books that came out
[00:24:22] but I wonder if this is if this is setting up something in the next season where Alfie and Dave
[00:24:27] Boyne split apart and Dave Boyne goes off on his own and there's always been that suggestion as well
[00:24:32] liking Gotham of Alfred's past coming back not necessarily to haunt him but you know popping
[00:24:41] its head above the parapet and liking Gotham with the return of one of his um
[00:24:47] comrades from the army we've seen that in the comics as well not just on the penny worth comics
[00:24:53] that really have accompanied this this show to some extent but in some of the year one
[00:25:01] comics as well I think Batman year one alludes to his past um Alfred's past as well but yes
[00:25:08] that's the nice side of the ending let's say when we get through to uh to the wedding of
[00:25:13] of Alfie and Sam yeah I guess it was like a big fireworks but let's talk about the other more
[00:25:18] political side of what's going on uh a final point really is uh the p.m versus general Thursday
[00:25:25] um because we've had the politics going on in the background throughout the season they really
[00:25:30] have not focused on this has been the story of Alfie who's not very political it has to be
[00:25:35] said he's a man that works for whatever money he can get um so he hasn't been really focused
[00:25:40] on it even though he was defending Zara from uh from Calpour he didn't get involved in the
[00:25:45] politics of what was going on in the situation there's a little nod to that in the opening scene
[00:25:49] where we see the newspaper that's being carried by Mr. Chadley the headline that's on there is
[00:25:54] saying that tensions are rising in Calpour so so that's still going on in the background
[00:25:59] but there's this internal strife that we've seen between the army led by general Thursday and
[00:26:04] Prime Minister Aziz which escalates and escalates in a series of people not understanding exactly
[00:26:12] what's going on on the other end of the phone and you really do worry about some international
[00:26:17] tensions that may be going on or even internal tensions that go on in the real world where
[00:26:21] this kind of conversation can happen effectively as we went through the opening sequence we saw
[00:26:26] the amount of people that didn't drink their morning cup of tea the one person that did
[00:26:30] was Prime Minister Aziz and from that point onwards he's in a fantasy world where he is the king of
[00:26:36] England it seems yeah and that's effectively how he approaches general Thursday when he calls to
[00:26:45] try and get himself and the soldiers released from level seven that Lucius has trapped them in so
[00:26:51] this almost felt like almost Dr. Strangelove Ty Esk in a way because of the misunderstanding
[00:27:00] between them because you have someone who is hallucinating not knowing that they're doing
[00:27:07] that because if they've taken a drug through their morning cup you have general Thursday with no
[00:27:13] idea of what's going on in the outside world topside above the bunker so it just leads to
[00:27:22] all the past history between these as we saw in previous episodes were you know
[00:27:27] general Thursday absolutely delineating where his responsibility is and the authority has
[00:27:34] over the level seven experiments and that the prime minister should not tread anywhere near it
[00:27:40] exactly and all that comes to pass and focus with these phone calls were even during the
[00:27:49] phone calls there is kind of confusion as why certainly from general Thursday why this is
[00:27:55] happening yeah where both parties think the other is about to undertake some kind of coup
[00:28:03] are on one another and yeah well general Thursday when he gets all that information from his from
[00:28:09] his lead soldier effectively whereas he's is saying I could destroy you with with a few words and
[00:28:15] general Thursday seems to think that because he's inside the bomb that is level seven that
[00:28:19] those words are pushed a button effectively so that's going back and forth and then as he's
[00:28:23] being in the solution nation gets the phone call from Thursday where Thursday is acquiescing a
[00:28:29] little bit saying to him you know my friend we will be open to listening to what it is
[00:28:34] and what problems you have that we can maybe discuss and come to some alignment and as he goes
[00:28:40] my friend he calls me I am your sovereign ruler and what I want is you servile or gone
[00:28:45] and that gets the hackles up even more with Thursday but that's what I mean
[00:28:49] general Thursday thinks as these is effectively placing himself as a dictator almost of the country
[00:28:58] doing a coup the PM is not the sovereign leader the queen would be the sovereign really right
[00:29:03] and at the same time just the antagonism between these two as these thinks that general Thursday
[00:29:14] is after him as well you know potentially doing a coup given he's an ex raven
[00:29:21] he very much prefers his independence from scrutiny of disease and this all mind melding in together
[00:29:32] with the lullaby drug so I just thought this was absolutely a superb kind of sequence of events
[00:29:42] that happen between these two because ultimately something very innocuous
[00:29:48] opened up to huge amounts of misunderstanding because of their past history and what's happening
[00:29:55] in that moment that the others are completely unaware of and the you know the prompt with
[00:30:02] Lucius locking them in and telling them they're effectively sat on a bomb the poor choice
[00:30:07] of words from Aziz which thinks that yes general Thursday thinks he's going to be blowing up
[00:30:14] with then getting a message to you know his colleagues and in the air force in order to
[00:30:22] effectively prevent some kind of coup that's happening a takeover of government by Aziz
[00:30:29] which is what it's sounding like to general Thursday and they did I just thought this was kind of
[00:30:35] almost Cuban missile crisis slash you know but played with the Doctor Strange love and kind of
[00:30:43] Boa bit and I thought it was really good yeah yeah excellent I have to say again the shots of
[00:30:48] overhead on this version of London 1970s London so it's not the same layout as actual London now
[00:30:54] but the overhead shots as the plane flies in to drop the bomb over number 10 Downing Street
[00:30:59] are fantastic they're really really good I love seeing a plane flying that low over London
[00:31:04] you don't see it very often there's a lot of high buildings in London nowadays so
[00:31:08] so I like that they were able to do that in in those scenes and the one call out and again
[00:31:14] I understand the show itself but the one call out is there's people rioting all across the city
[00:31:20] we heard it being called a mental breaker or mental health issue that's causing the problem here
[00:31:28] but they still take a phone call from general Thursday to drop a bomb on 10 Downing Street
[00:31:32] and nobody goes hang on a second maybe there's something wrong with him you know so there is
[00:31:37] there's a little bit of weirdness there but I thought it was great sequence yeah absolutely
[00:31:41] I mean it's not yes there's a little looseness to it sure but it works it works for this show
[00:31:48] yeah exactly excellent stuff excellent stuff that is the main points of the episode but
[00:31:52] I think there's a few little notes that we should be calling out here John definitely
[00:31:57] once again this show has given us something that we've asked for
[00:32:02] and it makes me wonder was someone listening to the podcast and we got Granny's with guns
[00:32:08] back John which we saw back in season two when we saw the battle between the the the
[00:32:14] the Ravens and the the English League we saw Granny's with guns for the first time and I
[00:32:18] remember you particularly being very excited about the idea that we could have streets
[00:32:21] patrolled by Granny's with guns and we get them here in this episode we're driving the streets
[00:32:26] under the influence of trying to protect their their domain from the angry horde yeah or maybe
[00:32:34] be or maybe you better go and join the angry horde well maybe yes morning cup of tea not
[00:32:38] entirely sure what side they were on because they were certainly flailing around with those
[00:32:45] machine guns quite a bit but Granny's guns always a good sign yeah and love that little
[00:32:51] reference in there for sure yeah there was one other cameo I guess I think so which is
[00:32:58] the voice in the lift that takes Martha and Alfie down to level seven is the voice of the
[00:33:06] London Underground or it certainly sounded like that the voice of the London Underground
[00:33:12] announcement of mine the gap and as the lift goes down level seven whether it is couldn't really
[00:33:20] tell from the credits but it is Emma Clark who does the voice of mine the gap and it sounded
[00:33:26] very much like this voice that is in the lift that takes Alfie and Martha down to level seven
[00:33:33] it does and it's even the freight itself levels have level seven access granted
[00:33:37] mine the closing doors so it does sound very like her I hope it is her unfortunately isn't in the
[00:33:42] credits there because it is just a one line gag I'd say so we don't we don't see in the credits
[00:33:48] there but well done if it is Emma Clark and yeah definitely ever been told you know that voice
[00:33:53] very very well yeah absolutely I just wanted to call it two other things about Sandra which
[00:33:58] I really enjoyed this episode for shining a light on number one is Sandra thinking that
[00:34:03] that all the attacks that are going on are her fans because fans be crazy basically I'm used to
[00:34:08] this all the time they're always outside my house shouting for me and Alfie's kind of going
[00:34:11] numb the shouting for your blood I know they're carrying posters but they've they're crazed
[00:34:16] fans now thought that was really good and of course Beth asking the question of the series
[00:34:22] what the hell does Candles and Caravans actually mean? What the hell is it about?
[00:34:27] How has it gotten so popular? It's a beautiful song she's got a beautiful voice I get it but
[00:34:31] Caravans and Candlesticks doesn't really have any meaning at all no it doesn't yeah except
[00:34:38] being out of power I suppose on a Caravan holiday I guess so yeah but yeah maybe that's it maybe that's
[00:34:44] it and no major quotes in the episode that that need to be deciphered just one or two and I'm
[00:34:51] just not too sure whether they would translate to the American audience of course as we've
[00:34:55] mentioned this show is only being broadcast on HBL Max so only North American viewers and
[00:35:00] South American viewers getting to see the show on a regular basis two that I caught and Beth saying
[00:35:06] I know you got the hump with me I think you could probably tell by context that just means
[00:35:10] I know you're irritated at me or annoyed by me and the other one was again we shouldn't really
[00:35:19] step into trying to translate things that Alfie said after our complete mistake last week but
[00:35:25] effectively it's when Martha thanks Alfie and he says there's no need to thank me there's a
[00:35:29] tenor in it that's a callback to Martha saying she'll pay him for going into level seven a tenor
[00:35:35] just means 10 pounds so he's just saying I'm being paid for this that's why yeah I don't know whether
[00:35:40] that's something I know people don't call $10 a tenor at all so just they may not have called
[00:35:47] what Alfie was saying there that's that's the only reason I've put it in there but I think
[00:35:50] that's it for Oliver and thoughts on the episode but John how would you rate the finale of season
[00:35:55] three of Pennyworth I thought it was a really good wrap up I would give this four and a half
[00:36:02] drug infused cup as out of five excellent yeah yeah I think this is very high up there for me
[00:36:08] for the show they've done it again they've rounded out the series on a high with a great episode
[00:36:13] or crowd found at the season with a high always forget what the what the whether we call it
[00:36:17] seasons a series because we call them series over here yes but series a running out the series
[00:36:22] would mean this final ever episode basically so but we don't know that yet so but I think it
[00:36:26] worked out very well I think gathering everybody together in one locations great is a great way
[00:36:30] of doing and kind of working out how you get everybody that is spread across the city
[00:36:35] into one location is always always a fun thing to do with your final episode
[00:36:39] and yes the the tensions between PMZ's and Channel 30 were great to work great to
[00:36:46] really good I mean I had a lot of laughs in in this episode and I love the
[00:36:54] the mixed messages with the phone call between Thursday and Aziz I love not having the I do from
[00:37:03] Alfie as well with the bomb drop and yeah it was just some really good weird
[00:37:11] and wonderful moments for this episode I think excellent yes and we are going to go on to some
[00:37:17] feedback for episode nine and to our Royal Mail feedback section we hope we're going to get in
[00:37:24] a little bit of feedback on the episode before we release it because that's what we promised
[00:37:28] to do we said we'd hold off on this episode so you are listening to this episode a little bit
[00:37:31] late after the episode has come out we normally release them on the day of release but I think
[00:37:34] we're going to release this one a little bit later so we can get your thoughts in for the
[00:37:38] finale so let's start off with a little throwback to last week and last week we asked for some help
[00:37:46] on the line from Alfie which we thought was Alfie calling the shape-shifting PWE a fug
[00:37:53] and we didn't really know what a fug meant and we thought it was a fuggly effectively
[00:37:59] we did shortened version of fugly yes and I think the only reason that was certainly in my
[00:38:04] mind was because of a previous episode of Drag Race UK with RuPaul yes because there was a dog
[00:38:13] called Fuggly on the weather yes and you'd already watched it at the dare so beforehand so yes that's
[00:38:18] probably what it was and we want to say a huge thank you to Ricardo Bacigalupo who sent us
[00:38:23] in an email to explain what we've gotten round he says hi Jala derk hope you guys are well
[00:38:29] just listen to your episode and 309 at the show I worked on season two and three of Pennyworth
[00:38:33] it's been fun listening to you guys chatting about what we did I went back into the script
[00:38:36] page just to check it's written as thug not fugg Alfie's line is my mom's got a certain sparkle
[00:38:43] you just look like a thug looking forward to hearing what you think about the final episode
[00:38:48] thanks Ricardo and Ricardo yes thank you so much I did send an email back to Ricardo
[00:38:52] saying I felt a bit like an idiot myself and John both did but it did make me laugh for most
[00:38:56] of the week that I didn't catch a Londoner replacing the letters th with an F is pretty
[00:39:03] standard that's that's something that you'd hear very often and we have heard from Michael Cain
[00:39:08] and we have heard from Jack Bannon on a pretty regular basis when they're when they're doing
[00:39:13] their London accent that that's what they do and we settled on it must be thug not thug
[00:39:18] it's the cockney accent it's the cockney th and just how doing it and I just yeah likewise
[00:39:24] just didn't connect that and that pronounced that accented pronunciation yeah we really should
[00:39:31] have got it why would he be calling a woman who looks exactly like his mother played by the
[00:39:36] same actress in fairness we did say that on the episode well that's why we weren't entirely
[00:39:41] sure whether we had gotten it right and thank you Ricardo for putting us right on that because
[00:39:46] yet for sure um we completely misinterpreted uh that one yeah if there is a four season
[00:39:53] maybe we aren't qualified to do the translation in every episode thanks so much for reaching out
[00:39:58] Ricardo thanks so much for listening as well really good to hear from you yeah good stuff
[00:40:02] thanks Ricardo we also got an email through from Victor von Doom on last week's episode episode nine
[00:40:09] who says greetings bat verse well to paraphrase Alfie this was not how I thought this would go
[00:40:17] Alfie totally bumbled his marriage proposal shouldn't he have brought a ring and taken
[00:40:22] Sandra to dinner now Sally wants Dave boys help Sam is kidnapped by Virginia I was pleased to see
[00:40:30] her sources what possible influence has patricia on the story lucius is playing hero happy to see
[00:40:38] a powered bet who will sort out general thursday either feeling either peg or bet we'll handle
[00:40:45] that the one thing we saw coming is the mad plot of folks what a bonus the return of Peggy and an
[00:40:53] enhanced bet psychs yes what a great episode and series can't wait for the finale and next season
[00:41:01] cheerio bat verse victor von doom thank you victor absolutely and yes I think the influence
[00:41:08] that patricia has on the story is to come out with some key corking lines that I think everyone would
[00:41:16] say in the privacy with people who are close to them and or just being quite frank and honest
[00:41:23] because her deadpan delivery her honesty around it certainly has gotten lapsed out of me and I
[00:41:30] think that might be the main reason and certainly as well I guess it this time of
[00:41:39] Thomas Wayne's life this era of the whole bat verse it's also interesting to log in a sister or
[00:41:49] dare I say even the daughter with Sam yeah absolutely and patricia of course is she's
[00:41:55] the party socialite so she's the one that connects everybody to this underground drug scene in
[00:42:03] in London so we have sally with Dave boy connecting him there but now we have effectively Martha and
[00:42:08] the Wayne's being connected through patricia she is hilarious I love I love searing on screen
[00:42:13] but do remember the big thing that she had on the story here the big connection that she had
[00:42:17] on the overall story she connected a little bit of the dots for Dave Boyd to connect with
[00:42:22] Francis Fuchs and the lullaby drug so it may never have gotten there if it wasn't for that
[00:42:27] conversation they had after patricia hidden in the closet overnight so she did have a little bit
[00:42:33] of influence but I did like that the first thing she was going to do was get her to play in
[00:42:36] Et al London because the place is crazy and it's gonna go everything's gonna blow up so yeah
[00:42:40] I'm Aish and certainly looking at this episode it looks like concrete will sort out general
[00:42:46] Thursday if no one is able to find the mechanisms that don't blow it up so yeah maybe um
[00:42:53] semtex and uh concrete will be the downfall of general Thursday maybe although it seems like
[00:43:01] lucius has effectively locked him inside a bunker and forever for for the next couple of days
[00:43:06] and tuned him almost he's like a furrow I guess well the locks should still work
[00:43:12] yeah unless that explosion took out all London which was aimed at Downing Street
[00:43:17] which I don't I'm not sure about we didn't mention that though we'd be mentioning the synopsis about
[00:43:22] Aziz kind of awakening awakening from the the influence of lullaby because the first time
[00:43:28] from at the end of the episode that you see him not in the the hallucination that he's had
[00:43:33] throughout the episode looks like he wakes up is before the bomb lands it's not a couple
[00:43:37] of seconds beforehand it looks like he hears the plane going overhead over London so I do wonder if
[00:43:44] Aziz escaped that bomb as well did he get himself into some kind of bunker to save himself as well
[00:43:50] may be it's entirely possible absolutely with the likes of uh bet sites coming back and being
[00:43:57] resurrected but certainly um yes uh totally with your victor around the bonus return of Peggy
[00:44:06] as well as bet in the last episode yeah definitely definitely thanks again uh victor
[00:44:12] we also got an email in from coffee and vodka on last week's episode he says greetings fellow
[00:44:16] plot pack defenders where to start heller and company sure know how to wrap up and clean house
[00:44:21] a nice two-and-one with Virginia being put out of action in a way that resements Martha and
[00:44:25] Thomas' relationship in shared protectionist murder some bond over stamp collecting others
[00:44:30] over homicide no judgment here it would have been nice to see how patricia and Sally managed to save
[00:44:36] themselves from being terminally teed but it was enough to see patricia wanes wonderfully in character
[00:44:41] reaction to the offer of playing the hero Alfie's mini journey in captive parenting with Sam in
[00:44:46] between awkward initial proposal and end of episode insight was a right bright spot of sweetness
[00:44:52] still looks like the marriage bit might be a pill to swallow though and is it just me or is
[00:44:57] it every time Thomas Martha and Alfie are in the same room it feels a bit cookie finally bets back
[00:45:02] and better than ever although in the credits it did say with plomaphate so no longer part of the
[00:45:07] regular weekly cast hopefully that changes with season four in the meantime what genius on the
[00:45:12] bad guy's side thought it was a good idea to give her super strength five sexy xxs mutual
[00:45:19] marital murders bionic bets mighty mice and mad cow mornings out of five peace and take care
[00:45:25] coffee and vodka p.s. I'm happily placing my bet now and Alfie being an orphan by the end of the
[00:45:30] next episode oh i'm so glad that didn't pan out yes coffee vodka we have alphie and his mom safe
[00:45:38] and sound uh and his mom and roger in attendance at the wedding so uh so that's okay at least that's
[00:45:44] happened she's safe and sound uh got through to the end of the episode so uh so i like that
[00:45:48] that's uh that's very happy with that yeah definitely and he is definitely right uh coffee
[00:45:52] vodka's definitely right those moments where you see martha thomas and alphie in the same room
[00:45:56] uh there's definitely a bit of a bit of cooking is going on uh between them um wonder if thomas
[00:46:02] still suspects what happened between alphie and martha as there's still some
[00:46:06] tension going on five six years after that happened i kind of feel that they're uh that
[00:46:10] they probably should be um especially given what's been going on in their marriage throughout this
[00:46:16] season and she calls uh alphie pretty often to help out with their problems so uh so i could i could see
[00:46:22] it i could see it definitely thanks uh so much coffee and vodka over on facebook for episode nine
[00:46:28] jamie lawton says really excellent episode what i love about this particular episode was that the
[00:46:34] sporting cast has some really good scenes especially david boy alphie's mom and the wanes as soon
[00:46:41] as the opening titles were shown i was excited as you see polywalker and paloma faith's names
[00:46:48] so i knew the return of the psych sisters was upcoming but alphie's mom dorothy atkinson
[00:46:55] really stole the show for me playing the evil clone of herself can't wait for the finale
[00:47:01] yeah to darothy atkinson was just so good uh at that role who's seen her as such a nice
[00:47:06] loving character bit of comedy throughout the series and here she is playing a playing a villain
[00:47:11] throughout the last episode she really was dorothy atkinson was really good in last week's
[00:47:17] episode and yes totally with you having uh the psych sisters uh back in town always good always
[00:47:24] good great to have them have a moment with them together as jerry cambell says finally caught
[00:47:29] up in time for the last two episodes the demonstrators in the park were hilarious loved the sign
[00:47:34] of nuts are the source of all evil really good to see beth sikes back i'm looking forward
[00:47:39] to see what the next episode has in store hopefully we get another season of the show
[00:47:44] fingers crossed sure fingers crossed i love the signs uh that the demonstrators had up
[00:47:50] in in uh hide park it's really good uh really good to see yeah absolutely and finally over on
[00:47:57] instagram lucius fox actor simon mayonda let us know that he's really been enjoying listening
[00:48:04] to the podcast particularly because he wasn't able to watch pay worth for weeks yeah it's a question
[00:48:09] that we had at the beginning of the of the series when we found out it was only going to be on hpl max
[00:48:13] and there wasn't a european release uh for the show or a u k release for the show what's it like for
[00:48:19] the actress themselves and when they can't just show it off to their friends and family other
[00:48:22] than screeners of course which i'm sure they do guess but but but effectively what it's like
[00:48:26] is you find a podcast like ours that's covering it so you can listen at least to what the
[00:48:31] reactions of uh of people that enjoy the show is so thanks so much for joining us on
[00:48:36] really good to hear you enjoyed the podcast as well yeah definitely thanks for your work
[00:48:40] as lucius as well yeah absolutely great this season good stuff uh that's all the feedback on
[00:48:46] episode nine um so thanks to all the fellow governors for sending in their feedback that's
[00:48:51] all the feedback for episode nine i think it's on with episode 10 feedback yeah we're going to
[00:48:57] pause here and hopefully have some feedback in here for uh for episode 10 and we're back after
[00:49:01] the episode is aired with a bit of feedback and our first bit of piece of feedback of course is
[00:49:05] about episode six excellent stuff always good to get feedback in no matter what episode it's from
[00:49:11] absolutely and the feedback is in from lisi laos who has some thoughts on episode six
[00:49:16] she says i know it's a little light and we already know it's thomas himself who shot his
[00:49:20] father by now but for me personally his behavior in this episode was a bit of a call back to
[00:49:25] as early as season one during his time with alistair cryley they have hinted as early as then
[00:49:30] that there was a darkness inside of him i've always wanted them to pull on this thread and
[00:49:34] i just think it's brilliant how they built up to it i like your points about how this do-gooder
[00:49:39] pediatric doctor is a facade that his father sees through and even martha knew the moment he left
[00:49:44] what he was going to do they knew about the side of thomas and now we too as viewers get to
[00:49:48] see that that's a great point i've completely forgotten how much they'd stress that back
[00:49:54] and that's a time back with alistair cryley absolutely it's a really good point i mean
[00:49:59] i guess it's also a bit of that echo of the battle within bruce you know as that vigilante
[00:50:08] and constantly being baited by the joker it's almost as though it's kind of been passed along
[00:50:15] with this darkness inside of thomas hereditary darkness well yes if such a thing is possible
[00:50:23] absolutely absolutely great to hear from you leah too i hope you're enjoying the season of
[00:50:27] of penny worth catching up on us as the episodes are coming out yeah thanks for the feedback lindsay
[00:50:33] on the final episode koffie and vodka says greetings fellow mind milk defenders
[00:50:39] rip aziz you great imperial badass we barely knew you of the space of death is expected
[00:50:47] i knew that alphie had hometown ties to lose to better cement his future role with the wanes
[00:50:54] hella having had his mother dance with her bow to delilah was all the foreshadowing needed
[00:51:00] but they majorly zigged that zag with not only her survival but his one word shy betrothal
[00:51:08] the rest of the episode was a nice homage to shawna the dead and no man's land hadn't
[00:51:14] expected to see folks get his comeuppance but zig me if i wasn't wrong again sorry to see thursday
[00:51:21] win the day yet another unexpected outcome can't help but hope that the blast was enough to set off
[00:51:28] the level seven auto destruct counterbalancing this the wanes seem to have embraced the
[00:51:34] crockery of their quirky murderous ways and bury the hatchet i guess no pun intended there
[00:51:41] from koffie and vodka and koffie and vodka continues finally if that was a nuke warner brothers has
[00:51:48] their excuse should there not be a season four have you heard anything it's being a blast
[00:51:54] following this season with you guys and hope to do so again five new nuclear families
[00:52:00] folks ups and ten downing street landfills out of five peace and take care koffie and vodka
[00:52:08] great stuff copy of a guy glad you caught the the shawna the dead connection there as well
[00:52:13] but also batman no man's land which was used as the premise i think of season four of
[00:52:18] gotham if i remember rightly maybe season five actually the final season started off with their
[00:52:23] reference to no man's land that awesome arc in batman comics so maybe a little foreshadowing
[00:52:29] of that in the uk yeah definitely good stuff i don't i don't think we think we talked about
[00:52:34] this episode i don't think that it was a nuke it did seem like probably likely they dropped a bomb on
[00:52:40] on ten downing street but i love the idea that it might have rattled the the surrounding lands
[00:52:45] enough to set off the yeah that would be the bomb inside the level seven yeah that would be sweet
[00:52:51] justice for a z's to take out general thursday i guess at the same time as him taking a z's
[00:52:59] out yeah great stuff goffing vodka is great having had your thoughts throughout this season
[00:53:06] as well yeah on season four we haven't heard anything as we mentioned this show was commissioned for
[00:53:10] epics originally and then moved to hbomax held off for the launch in hbomax but it is possible
[00:53:18] that we will get a season four you know shows like titans have gotten more seasons which is
[00:53:23] which is a hbomax yes so now that it's moved over there um obviously i'm sure depending on the
[00:53:29] ratings dependent how many people have picked up penny worth over on the hbomax now that all
[00:53:34] the episodes are added over there so i'd love to see a bit more yeah absolutely definitely um i think
[00:53:41] it's a nice kind of interlude where it's been left effectively assuming it's not a nuclear
[00:53:46] destination which is as i say don't think it is um because it can really sort of move to gotham in some
[00:53:57] respects yeah or it has the potential to do that and that would just you know just kind of narrow
[00:54:03] that divergence of it um with with gotham i'm guessing yeah i'd love to see how they continue
[00:54:10] with you know what's happening with samantha will bruce come along at some point in the future
[00:54:14] you know i'd love to see how they continue that storyline with the wanes well that's it you could
[00:54:19] almost imagine bruno hella with sandra pregnant marita alphie that it is a boy sandra dies or
[00:54:29] something in childbirth and it's passed to the wanes oh they call it bruce and that's why
[00:54:36] it's so connected to bruce so that'll be really really different yeah i i don't know i there's just
[00:54:42] you know it's a possibility that could be anything yes could easily happen in the hell of us yes i like
[00:54:48] it i like it good stuff thanks again coffee okay we also got some final feedback on the finale of
[00:54:54] penny worth season three uh on facebook from jayme lorton who says what an epic finale really enjoyed
[00:55:00] the episode and the series don't want to spoiler for anyone else so i'll just keep mum about the
[00:55:04] content itself the one thing that really stood out to me was the real 70s vibe that the creators
[00:55:09] managed to capture sat dressing was top class some background objects really brought the 70s memories
[00:55:15] back in this particular episode it was the milk bottle top getting your finger and thumb covered
[00:55:19] in milk if you press too hard also the slr rifle the soldier has had when i was a kid i had a toy one
[00:55:26] i think made by airfix yes i do remember and jayme has supplied a photograph of it as well
[00:55:31] definitely remember there's been the shops dead absolutely and remember the milk aspect with
[00:55:38] the the foil tops whether the foil tops were still there because the birds had pecked through the
[00:55:44] tops and then of course trying to be the first one to get the cream off the top absolutely
[00:55:50] absolutely with four elder brothers um and and my parents obviously uh all vying for the the cream
[00:55:55] of the milk uh for your breakfast in the morning and then of course there's always one brother
[00:56:01] who shakes up the bottle so that uh the cream's all gone and nobody feels special well that's
[00:56:05] true and of course now all the milk in uh the containers is all homogenized anyway so exactly
[00:56:10] exactly don't get the cream on the milk good stuff jayme glad i brought back a bit of memories for you
[00:56:15] there as well i'm i'm glad they're able to do that with this show because they really do work very
[00:56:19] hard at getting it to look like a version of the 70s definitely not the 70s they have some
[00:56:24] stuff there that that couldn't possibly exist then but uh but i love that they they do keep
[00:56:29] the essence of it but i think that's it all the way through penny worth and likewise with with
[00:56:35] gotham the the production design and feel was always just really top notch you know i think
[00:56:42] if there was one word that i could say it's just it's always been quirky it's been this really
[00:56:47] interesting uh mix of of different genres and so on but giving an overall feel and i mean
[00:56:55] certainly there is really that vibe from the very first episode um you know with the ravens i mean
[00:57:02] we had people hanging cages off lamp posts we had beef eaters with guns you know real vibe of
[00:57:10] moving from those you know those early days in penny worth being you know kind of just after
[00:57:17] the war sort of you know mid 40s through to where you have that more and 70s vibe as you say jamie so
[00:57:27] yeah really good stuff thanks for the feedback jay was always really interesting back in season one
[00:57:32] where it was like you you were in the 60s definitely but they had these kind of tinges of it that
[00:57:37] it could have been bits taken from the 40s bits taken from the 1800s as well with well that's
[00:57:42] it even even the the wide shots of of london with the urblins certainly reminiscent of sort of
[00:57:50] wartime london but also the smokestacks there was almost a victorian aspect to that i guess
[00:57:58] and of course i'm having the ripper in there as well of course a little references back there
[00:58:03] and of course we had the famous blimp which we saw this season once i think and
[00:58:07] and that famously continues on into gotham as well so some connections anyway as well
[00:58:12] good stuff thanks jamie and thanks everybody for all of your feedback throughout this season
